Review Lazza - Marrickville

It taste and feels like home! The dishes were authentic and satisfied my cravings with Filo dishes. The meat was so tender and hit the right mark. A new dish to try for Non Filipino foodie!

One of the best (authentic) Filipino restaurants in Sydney. We had takeaway foods for boodle feast at home and everything was delicious! Sisig, lechon kawali, lumpiang Shanghai, buffalo chicken wings, pork barbecue, tilapia, bangus and pinakbet. Will have to go back to the restaurant to try their other dishes. The staff are all nice and friendly!

(2.5 stars) Lazza looks more like a nightclub than a restaurant. Icy blue rope lights cut a geometric path across the room’s decorated rafters. A cluster of Edison bulbs dangle from a beam hung over the bar, with underset lighting casting an eerie green glow onto the cement floors. It says you’re somewhere different quite loudly, even before it fills up with smiling Pinoy family groups. They’re here for boards of crispy pata kare-kare ($35) where deep-fried pork knuckle is hacked apart and shared with vegetables in soupy peanut and coconut milk sauce, suka at toyo (a sauce made from coconut vinegar and soy sauce), and a chutney-like sauce that goes well on the fairly bland meat. I prefer the Cebu-style crispy pata at Sydney Cebu Lechon in Newtown. Pork sisig ($22) served on a sizzling hot plate is also a bit bland here: even a good squeeze of lemon doesn’t get this version over the line. The best version of this dish I’ve tried comes just down the road in Sydenham at Let’s Chon, though I also rated the one I tried at the hard-to-find Pamana in Chatswood. By the time I get to crispy bicol express ($22) eaten over garlic rice ($4) I’ve decided it’s the over-cooking of the pork that’s making the dishes taste off-kilter for me. In this one the too-crisp and oily pork hunks are twice-cooked in a spicy coconut and shrimp paste sauce, that again is much better handled by Sydney Cebu Lechon. We weren’t inclined to stay around to try dessert like the happy families and couples surrounding us. I suspect Lazza wins “feels like home” points for people with Filipino backgrounds that makes the sum of its parts feel greater than the actual food.

My first ever filo restaurant experience and it didn’t disappoint! The pork sisig was delicious! Might have been a mistake to order two pork dishes(with the bicol express) aas they were both very rich, but the flavours were amazing! We Recommend. Halo halo also yummy, not too sweet not too filling, perfect for dessert.

Yummy Filipino cuisine, we tried the crispy pork knuckle, sizzling pork sisig, bulalu and finish off with dessert Halo halo. Overall, it is a lovely restaurant with delicious food and friendly staff.

I’m an Indonesian living in Sydney, and i can say the food at Lazza is wayyyy better than some indo foods! OMG THE SISIG THOO!! The place is nice, cozy, homey and the price is also good. Highly recommended!!!

Best sisig ever. It was perfectly cooked, with lots of crispy bits and an egg on top, paired perfectly with the garlic rice and a squeeze of 🍋. We also had the milkfish which was nicely marinated.

Ube ice cream is probably the best purple food I have ever eaten 💜💜💜 Kare-kare was surprisingly delicate and fish sisig was salty and fun in the mouth. Decent value for money.

You don't expect much flavour from the Philippines but the garlic rice had almost no garlic. Waste of time. The beef stew had no flavour but some reasonable chunks of beef, the pork sisig was actually good with crispy pork and lots of chilli but super expensive. If you're in Marrickville, you'll get similar food much cheaper and with much more flavour at Vietnamese or Chinese places and if you really want Filipino, Sydney Cebu Lechon is better and cheaper.

The food was authentic and delicious and servings were great, (please keep them up as most Filipino restaurants have become stingy!) They don't do the bilao/boodle fight on the weekend.
The vibe and band on a Saturday night was lovely and a nice touch. Great to see live music again.
An issue was when we were seated, we aren't attended to, no-one gave us a menu or took our drink orders to start.
Also we mentioned it was a birthday booking but the happy birthday song was not included for him by the band (but was done with others).
It would've been a nice touch if the dessert we ordered even came with a birthday candle in it.

Location: Marrickville (Main Road) parking is very easy

Premies: Clean and tidy. Casual attire this is not a fine dining restaurant.

Food: Delicious servings generous no complaints here

Staff: Friendly - Need to be more attentive when clearing plates from table.

Price: $250 approx. 6 People with drinks (no alchohol)

Suggestions: Improvement needed on Alcoholic Beverages. We asked for Wine and/beer (apparently ran out - then toward the end of our meal advised they only have Corona available)
Too late for that and a very unusual recommendation and timing..
excellent service, scrumptious food! A must-visit filo resto.
Got to taste almost everything on the menu and they didn't dissapoint. It will make you come back for more. Makes you drool while you imagine their food. I must say this place is highly recommended for food lovers.
It's quiet when we stop in just after 10am for breakfast. Last night it was buzzing with Filipino folks eating and laughing in big family groups. We are big fans of Filipino breakfast, especially the many variations of silog, good at any time of day. Alison goes for Bangsilog - marinated milkfish with fried egg and rice - $14. The fish is fried and has a strong fishy flavour which works with the fried eggs (yay runny yolk) and garlic fried rice. There's a sweet dippy sauce on the side and some salad so you can tell nanna you've been looking after yourself.

Called in for dinner on a Thursday evening. We were the only customers and ordered the Pork sisig and crispy pork in coconut sauce. We heard a few dings from the microwave and our food arrived. Was very ordinary, the pork in coconut sauce tasted like peanut butter(god only knows why) and the pork sisig was greasy and fatty and tasted like it was cooked in the used oil that is carted away by the grease trap trucks that drain restaurant deep fryers. To make things worse we both ended up with food poisoning and will definately be avoiding this place in future.Warning bells should have rung when the half asleep staff member with the pillow mark and fluff still in his hair ambled over and gave us the menus. He looked like someone had dragged him unwillingly out of bed and he still wore the clothes he slept in.Place was obviously empty for a reason and id be very surprised to see this place still trading by the end of the financial year.
