Review Rice Paper Sister - Melbourne

Rachel Sellers
The staff here are so friendly! I came in for a solo lunch and they were immediately chatty and warm. The gentleman who I think was the manager gave me some great suggestions that paid off very well. The flavour in all of the dishes was really deep and balanced. All of them were super fresh though and beautifully done. I also appreciated that the staff seemed to want to talk about the food and the flavours, how it’s cooked, etc which I really appreciate as a big foodie. I’ll be coming back and recommending it to all and sundry :)

Absolutely INCREDIBLE time having dinner here this week!! There were 2 of us and we did the $45 pp for 5 sharing dishes option. Not only was the food insanely delicious, but the menu had such a wide variety of options, everything sounded so nice I wish we could of tried it all! Also, the menu had an entire vegetarian side for those that are veggie. PLUS the staff were so kind, friendly & considerate. Eat here if you want an amazing food/dining experience :)

Popular Thai restaurant. Lots of vegan options. Special is $45 per person for 5 dishes. Good variety and could not fault any dish. Fresh quality ingredients. Chose a range with salad, curry, vegetables, fish and beef accompanied by rice. Interesting desert menu but we were too full to try. Interesting that they neither served tea nor coffee. Seating inside and out on hardware. Servers were excellent.

Banquet for two (45 pp) for lunch. You can choose five dishes from the menu. All of the five dishes were really well done. A little bit sweet for my personal preference, especially the sticky pork belly but it was still very good. Overall this is asian fusion done well. Will be back with the whole family. The experience is worth the price. Note that there is a 10% surcharge on the weekends and a 15% surcharge on public holidays. Booking in advance is necessary as it can get very busy, especially if you from out of state and you don't want to miss out on this experience. This is a must stop if your on a foodie tour.

Constantly changing menu. Usually some good dishes. The cocktail Ursula's revenge was exceptional. Creamy and not too sweet with a gin base. You choose 7 dishes which is quite enough for two. Must book in advance though. Very hard to take walk ins even for two.
Vanessa Wingert
Good vibe restaurant. Staff super friendly, delicious food and tasty cocktails. Also, the 5 dishes to share is a great option for the price. Dessert are unbelievable good!! Beautiful and the start of the show at that night.

Enjoyed lunch for 3. 2 having $45pp 5 share plates and 1 teen choosing 2 dishes. The food was delicious. There were a lot of other customers so it took a long time to get our meals and staff were sometimes distracted and unresponsive. Clean bathrooms, however they are upstairs so would be impossible to get up to them if you are in a wheelchair, or have trouble with stairs. Overall it was a nice experience and would recommend.

There are many reasons this Southeast Asian fusion restaurant has been around for years and still is very popular. Funky yet bright interior decor, chilled ambience, friendly but not intrusive staff, and the list goes on. The critic I have is rather small quantity of food which is more on the bland side.

We were looking for a coffee, maybe a snack and spotted Sister as we walked by and what a perfect spot for a quick snack, but could have had a full lunch too, it all looked so good. As my fiancee is coeliac it can be a struggle sometimes to find options but it turned out most of the menu was gluten free so we were all set. Well worth the stop, thanks for the fantastic service, the dinning experience was truly pleasurable, thanks.

Fantastic restaurant. Dinner last night was one of the best meals we have enjoyed in Melbourne in a while. Great choice of food (was really difficult choosing), so very well priced (actually think they are under-pricing many of the dishes) and great staff. We really enjoyed our experience and will be back. We ate outside as it was a beautiful evening, but inside looked very inviting (not too loud). Creative, inexpensive, delicious and great service - go!

The waiters and chef patiently worked together with me to cater for my complicated dietary requirements (no wheat, garlic, oinion, soy) and made the most delicious meal. Such a great atmosphere, the food was amazing and they really went above and beyond so I didn't feel like a burden at all. Highly recommend!

I went with a group, and I have a seafood allergy so most of the menu was out for me. The wait staff were amazing and let me know exactly what dishes I could safely have. Service was the best I have experienced in a long time. Everyone else I was with loved their meals as well

Great vegetarian options - awesome flavours as expected! Try the vego version of the lobster rolls, wagyu, and goat curry. Top notch service too! :)

Had the best night good was excellent and the staff was the best ever. Will be back for sure thanks for a great experience.

We had an amazing dinner last night. One that we will remember for a very long time. The service was very friendly and professional, the food was sensational. The tartar of kangaroo, wagyu ribs and twice cooked duck were just a few of the outstanding dishes we had. AND great value for money. Such a winner.

Great food, great cocktails & great staff

Fabulous restaurant with great vegetarian options, only suggestion please have a separate vegetarian menu. Big sister would be proud!

Just love the fresh ingredients and amazing flavours. Duck salad is my current favourite, followed closely by the pork belly. Keep meaning to try other eateries for lunch, but keep ending up here, because I know we won't be disappointed.
Sezza
Very lovely experience here. Fantastic well-balanced flavours. The only thing I didn't enjoy much was the Filo-misu, it was a bit sweet for me.

Under the same owners at Rice Paper Scissors, it’s predecessor Rice Paper Sister did not disappoint. All the dishes ordered could not fault across the board - all executed well and had unique flavour combinations. In particular the raw tuna kinilaw was a particular stand out as the different textures of raw tuna, caviar and the crispy fried bread was thoroughly enjoyable. Would definitely recommend those who have not tried this place to give it a try!!

My friend & I shared a beautiful lucky 88 lunch today! 8 great courses paired with 8 either alcoholic or mock-tail beverages everything was fresh & the wines were a perfect selection for the food served. Thank you for an enjoyable experience, the staff were excellent!

I’m Vietnamese and I took my family here a while back for my mum’s birthday because I’ve heard good things about this place from work colleagues and my mum loves Vietnamese food. As we had children with us who, inevitably, will be noisy from time to time but were very well behaved, we were met with disgruntled employees who weren’t too happy about a “family” presence in their upscale establishment. If you’re going to be selling “upscale Vietnamese cuisine” then it should be inclusive for everyone, including Vietnamese families like mine. How ironic it is that this restaurant aims to celebrate South East Asian/Vietnamese food but is unwelcoming to the very people (like my mother) who is at the very core and heart of the culture. It appears that this restaurant only aims to elevate Vietnamese cuisine for the more wider middle class masses but for working class Vietnamese families like mine who the very cuisine you are taking from, it seems we are very not welcomed. Also the chicken salad was mediocre to our palate.

I had the chef’s selection and it was a mouth-watering experience. My favourite were those fried prawns, a staple favourite or must-get anywhere. I also had a sauvignon blanc, it was refreshing as - which made the whole dining experience a blissful one. <br/><br/>The place inside is very dim-lit - went in the evening - and romantic, so the crowd is very conversational. The staff were, on their toes, wonderful caretakers and a good looking bunch of hospo champions.
Cathy
The food was yummy and the staff was fantastic! Very helpful with the menu and happy to swap out items for our vegetarian friends and for those that were a bit more tempted with the items on the vegetarian menu. Good decor. Modern but not too loud so we were able to hear each other speak! Second time here and would definitely come back again 😊

Booked last week for today and have received a call today to tell me I have to sit outside in the cold because there were people booked MONTHS ahead.<br/>Why wasn't I told about this when I booked ?

A great sharing plate experience! <br/>I always love going to places like this. A lot of dishes, a lot of tasty treats to try and a fun meal! <br/><br/>The lady serving us was lovely. She was very good at explaining the menu, had the dishes bought out at different times in a good order so we didn’t have too much on our table and made some good suggestions. <br/><br/>You get a mini bao bun for free with some butter which was really good. Once I tried this I knew we were in for a treat. <br/><br/>We ordered a lot of dishes:<br/>Lotus root chips<br/>Lobster rolls <br/>Mushrooms <br/>Eggplant <br/>Beef short rib <br/>Goat ribs <br/>Kake kake prawns <br/>Lamb <br/>Bali potato salad <br/>Pear cassava cake <br/><br/>All the dishes had a lot of flavour. All tasted different and none of them were samey which is what I’ve had previously at a restaurant like this. Service was quickly food was tasty and the vibes were great. <br/><br/>I will be back!!

Came to Rice Paper Sister to celebrate my friend's birthday!<br/><br/>Ordered:<br/>🍠 Lotus root chips: oregano, chilli salt ($7.00)<br/>🦀 Tapioca soft shell crab: togarashi, 'aligue' mayo ($9.00)<br/>🦐 Lobster roll: mustard pickle, burnt nori ($10.00)<br/>🐟 Kingfish sashimi: passionfruit, white soy, yarra valley caviar ($19.00)<br/> 🥦 "Kare Kare" cauliflower, crispy prawns, peanuts ($16.00)<br/>🍆 Roasted Eggplant (v), szechuan sauce, peanuts ($16.00)<br/>🍞 Handmade local roti ($6.00)<br/>🍰 Yasmin's warm cassava cake: roasted coconut, coconut icecream ($13.00)<br/>🍰 'Filo-misu': a filipino twist on the classic tiramisu with filomisu, filipno biscuits, milo icecream, mandarin ($13.00)<br/><br/>Review:<br/>We had so much food. The top 2 food shout outs of the night were: Yasmin's warm cassava cake and the Filo-misu! Textures and flavors of the dessert were all on point. <br/>For example, cassava cake and icecream are all soft and mushy feeling, but Rice Paper Sister's consideration of the bed of roasted coconut brought it to a 5/5.<br/>I may legitimately just come back for dessert 🤣. <br/><br/>Roti was a little oily but so fluffy and fun to eat. The mains were decent, and whole food course was just good overall.<br/><br/>I'd also like to give a shoutout to the fantastic engaging service. Especially from the waitress with dip dyed blue hair who was able to recommend enough dishes that we almost rolled out the door and brought smiles to our face every time she came around.<br/><br/>Highly recommend rice paper sister!

I had an outstanding meal at rice paper Sister and I’m gonna tell everyone about it. Definitely the best asian fusion in town.<br/>*<br/>Overall score: 21/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>in 5 words: best asian fusion in Melbourne <br/>*<br/>✅ Recommended: Lobster bun, potato salad, roast duck pancake<br/>*<br/>Review: We honestly enjoyed most of the dishes here. Rice paper combined Indonesian, Malaysian, chinese, Vietnamese and western cuisine to create a menu with so many exciting dishes. I was spoilt for choice! <br/><br/>The lobster bun was the best I’ve had in Melbourne - very crunchy lobster which retained its freshness and taste. Roast duck pancake was also really good - they replaced the traditional plum sauce with mandarin jam. I thought the jam was a bit too sweet so i didn’t slather much. <br/><br/>The potato salad was really Indonesian gado gado with potatoes - how genius is this combo! BUT the roti was hands down the best roti I’ve had in Melbourne - it maintained a good balance of crunchy, chewy and charred. I’m in shock that a western place could recreate this classic Malaysian dish and execute it so well. The pork main dish was a bit tough and hard to finish. <br/><br/>Something to note - unlike other asian fusion places, they have very generous portions portions! We over ordered. Will definitely be back - it was a great Friday night experience and service was amazing <br/>*<br/>Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Ambience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Presentation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Price: ⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

To start we loved the crunchy beer nuts and banana blossom chicharron. To follow, a the local wild mushroom arroz caldo was simple, yet simply delicious – A heart-warming and luscious congee.<br/><br/>To follow, the pièce de résistance – a kamayan of tofu and jackfruit lechon paksiw, ginataang laing with sesame rice crackers, pansit bihon and bringhe rice. Everything was incredibly flavoursome. The ginataang laing was of particular note – a wonderfully rich and aromatic coconut, kale and turmeric curry.<br/><br/>Dessert time continued to please with a traditional maja blanca (a Filipino dessert made from coconut milk, cornstarch, corn and sugar) as well as a thoroughly modern and moreish banana and jackfruit turon with banana and coconut ice cream

Love this venue on Hardware Lane! <br/><br/>Warm and cosy inside, and the team are so welcoming. <br/><br/>I visited for an event run by Entrée Pinays. The food was absolutely delicious! <br/><br/>Would definitely like to go back again soon!!

We had a fantastic dinner here last night. Not only were the staff very polite, but the food was exceptionally tasty. Highlights included the beef cracker, the special seared scampi, the kingfish and the pulled beef lettuce wraps. But honestly, everything was full of flavour and the Malbec we ordered paired perfectly. I love places that have interesting combinations of flavours, and thats exactly what this menu had!

Food was an adventure! We ordered six different dishes which was a mix of entree, mains and dessert. Every dish served was delicious! Definitely a food experience to remember!

Beautiful food! Absolutely loved the Lobster roll, Pine mushroom 'Sisig' and the Moreton bay bugs! Will definitely be back! Thank you Chef xx

This is a really good modern fusion restaurant. For entrees, I really liked the seafood wafer cracker and the raw tuna, black caviar and fried bread. In terms of mains, the beef short rib was really delicious too and I recommend having the extra sticky sauce with rice or roti. The roasted eggplant was very flavourful as well, best have it with rice or roti as well.

This place was a lucky find to put it mildly. Brilliant service and exquisite Asian tapas (as I call it). Share plates of delectable flavours. Rory the hip waiter guided us to the best of the menu, and we were not disappointed. Bugs, tuna, soft shell crab, and lobster roll as share entrees, then braised beef in lettuce cups with slaw and roti for shared main. Great wine too. To top it off, Rory suggested Beneath Driver Lane, a very cool blues bar for an after dinner cocktail and groove. Was a special night. Two very satisfied thumbs up.

It was my Korean friend's farewell dinner, but all of us got pisses off.<br/><br/>Came here because of the awesome experiences I had from its sister restaurant, Rice Paper Secissors, who I have visited many times.<br/><br/>However, this restaurant really disappointed me in regard to the food and drink.<br/><br/>Drink: spicy, sour and salty cocktail, extremely weird taste, none of us in the group of 5 liked it. I'm feeling I'm drinking KOREAN SPICY KIMCHI Soup (commented by my Korean friend). If u made it hot, it would be perfect as a hotpot soup, u may add seafood, beef and many other food~ However, it meant to be a proper cocktail, sorry no love 😔<br/><br/>Food: we chose the chef selection, 6 of the 6 courses are all deep fried, I ask myself are we in a Korean fried chicken restaurant or Australian fish chips stores. Taste extremely so so. After the set menu was served, we waited 25mins for the extra main to come. Given the quietness of the restaurant, how come so slow??? U went to market to buy the food in real time basis?<br/><br/>$100/per person, cheap material, 2 out of 5 is really a fair mark.<br/>

The food was delicious!! Went with a branch of friends, great for sharing and having a chat over a few drinks. It was contemporary Asian done really well!! Not too fancy but just enjoyable to eat. Would visit again

Service: Fast &amp; reasonable<br/><br/>Booking: Easy<br/><br/>Food: Medium to delicious<br/><br/>Price: Reasonable<br/><br/>Dishes: Raw Tuna dish is great. So was the double glazed pork with apple something. The lobster roll was ok, the bread was better. Lotus chips were a bit too sour.

We loved 😍<br/>The lobster burgers were amazing! We loved every dish that came out. Most dishes were share dishes so is a great place for a birthday or team lunch <br/><br/>We disliked 😖<br/>Could not fault this place! 🙅🏼‍♀️<br/><br/>We have been here a number of times and have loved it every time!

Fusion asian filipino dish version of sisig mushroom tastes nice. Kangkong tastest great too. Ambience is just perfect. Looking to try other dishes in my next visit

We are big fans of Asian fusion restaurants, and we’re really glad we decided to try Rice Paper Sister! <br/>Are you guys big fans of asian fusion dishes too? If you are, you are in for a treat with @ricepaprsistr ! We went there for dinner recently and was very happy with the food! Very delicious and perfect for a good night out!<br/><br/>Some of my favourites are below!<br/><br/>🦀tapioca soft shell crab, togarashi, kewpie<br/><br/>🦞lobster roll, mustard pickle, burnt nori<br/><br/>🦐moreton bay bugs, coconut thermidor, shellfish oil<br/><br/>🐖 ‘pinoy’ pork jowl, scallops, adobo sauce, yarra valley caviar<br/><br/>🥩 beef short-rib, sticky sauce, lettuce wraps with handmade local roti<br/><br/>You definitely also want to try this dessert, amazing!<br/><br/>🍨 filomisu, filipino biscuits, milo ice cream, mandarin

We had a big group for this place for dinner, the food is great! But the service is no good. When I call for reservation, they recommend to have the set menu, but obviously not compulsory. And for big group, it's hard for one person to decide how's everyone appetite and taste bud to make a decision on food on everyone's behalf. When we arrived, we were asked by the waiter if we want to have the set menu, most of us didn't want it and would prefer Ala carte dish, he further emphasis on the set menu again, what I found annoying is despite there's no compulsory of ordering the set menu, when we informed them what we want, they still try to push it for the set menu. During that moment, we felt like we were being force. When you doing a food and beverage Bussiness, you either make it clear for group booking you only take set menu order. Do not make it ambiguities, make us seems like we have a choice, but keep on push us for the set menu, not a good way of dealing Bussiness like that. And the waitress, didn't write and take note of the drink order, and we were waiting for the drink, took quite long, when we request and asked her just to remind her that there are still drinks that has not arrived, she just mentioned we will bring over with an attitude face. There are still lots of room for customer service improvements. Not great with dealing with group reservations and dining. I didn't want to spend time writing these, but I have to mention all of these. Sometimes no matter how good your food are, your customer service is really crucial, to run a successful and sustainable business.

Everything about this place was perfect, food, wine, service and atmosphere. Waitress knew her stuff and really looked after us too. The short Rib was amazing.

Great service and great food. Would recommend the crab and roe wafers and balinese potato salad, both were amazing and good value. The gin cocktail special was beautifully served and so refreshing. 10/10

Located at 15 Hardware Lane, just off Bourke St in the CBD, Rice Paper Sister offers the same fresh, organically sourced ingredients and inviting atmosphere as Rice Paper Scissors, with a "finer" dining experience.Delicious food and great service. Staff were really friendly and gave us great advice on how much and what to order. Favourites were Duck pancakes, lotus root chips, beef short rib and lettuce wraps, lamb blackstrap and the roti was delicious. Will be back
Gorgeousbyj
lobster roll, mustard pickle, burnt nori<br/>very disappointing dish, very little lobster, most of it was battered <br/><br/>‘filo-misu’, a filipino twist on the classic tiramisu<br/>very average dessert, taste ok only, would be better if add a crunchy element to it<br/><br/>
Emily
Divine food and ambience. Every dish was remarklable and left us wanting more. One thing we would hope the management would look into is the time take between each dish. There was a good 45min gap between our dishes. We are not expecting fast food service but we would prefer to not go hungry before the next dish is served.

As a huge fan of Scissors, I was very keen to try Rice Paper Sister. Although I prefer the former, that is more reflective of my preference to south East Asian fusion in comparison to the predominantly Filipino food that Sister serves. <br/><br/>Having said that, it was still very good. We had:<br/>- King Fish Sashimi (whoops no pic, ate it too fast! The fish was delish but I would question passion fruit as an accompaniment as it did overpower the fish a little bit) <br/>- Blue Swimmer Crab, Sesame wafer and crab roe (stand out, heaven) <br/>- Lobster roll, mustard butter, burnt nori (very tasty)<br/>- Moreton Bay Bug, coconut thermidor, shellfish (okay this one I did not like. The bug was cooked well but coconut is such a dominate flavour that they bug was completely lost.)<br/>- Special: pork bao topped with crackle (I can never look past a pork bao - this was the Filipino take with a flat bao rather than an actual bun. Delish!) <br/><br/>Overall, the food was very good and the service was extremely fast and friendly. <br/>

We actually got so full from just ordering off the starters menu: kingfish sashimi, raw tuna black cavier fried bread, spammer crab caviar mayo on crisp, kingfish prawns and lobster roll. Steamed bao with butter came complimentary and our waiter was extremely friendly. King prawns and lobster roll is a duo you must order together and was highly recommended by the staff - we ate the prawns first and then dipped the lobster roll into the sauce. The apple pie was so warm and freshly baked, complimented well with the coconut ice cream. Definitely a great restaurant to visit when in Melbourne!
Custardbun
I did not really know what to expect from Balinese/Filipino fusion cuisine, but was pleasantly surprised by our team lunch. Service was impeccable, and the suggestion of the Express Lunch for the group was an excellent recommendation. The salt and vinegar lotus root chips were a revelation. This was followed by four courses, including tuna tartar (fantastic!), lobster roll (did not expect the lobster to be battered and fried), a chicken dish and an Asian style slaw. All accompanied by jasmine rice and service with a smile! It was awesome value at $30pp. Can’t wait to return!
Cravings Melbourne
We were warmly greeted upon arrival and the staff were very friendly. I had called earlier that day to reserve a table and requested space for a small pram and they were very accommodating. <br/><br/>The restaurant serves up asian fusion dishes but it was definitely more Filipino influenced. We ordered the kingfish sashimi and the Pinoy pork jowl to start. The sashimi tasted so fresh and delectable, it was so light on the palate and with the addition of passion fruit, made this one refreshingly memorable dish. <br/><br/>The pinoy pork was delicious and full of flavour but I have to be honest, I ordered it more so for the scallops. Although the pork was meant to be the highlight , the scallops did help complete the dish. I really wanted more but we didn’t want to double up on orders so that we could try everything else on the menu. <br/><br/>The rest of the food we ordered were very tasty, every dish was like a party in your mouth so let’s skip ahead. For dessert, we ordered the apple pie and the filo-misu (their take on tiramisu), I thought the filo-misu would’ve been my favourite but the apple pie did hit me by surprise, the pie was filled with a very generous amount of apple with a well balanced sweet and sour note. I must say I did regret sharing it, next time I’m definitely having it all to myself. <br/><br/>If you’re looking to catch up with some friends over some good flavourful food, this place is highly recommended . Service was fast and menu was explained thoroughly upon arrival. Try to come with at least 3 friends so you can try a little bit of everything, you won’t be disappointed.
Lucky Star
Very nice ambience. Waiters were helpful. Entrees were nice though soft shell crab was a bit oily. The mains are quite generous so be careful when ordering as we could not finish our meal. Szechuan eggplant worth ordering. Rotis were traditional. Anything to do with Bao is good. Lotus chips excellent. Like to come back to try more.
Kelvinchewsv
By the same owner as the ever crowded Rice Paper Scissors, the food here is more skewed towards Balinese and Malaysian cooking, as opposed to Thai.<br/><br/>We went in a group of 4, and 1 of us is a vegetarian. The lotus chips was really yummy, as was the eggplants dish. But can't quite say the same for other dishes - the pumpkin dish felt odd, Kangkung side dish was way too salty, both the lamb rump and BBQ pork neck were rubbery. Roti was there to save the day too.<br/><br/>Was going to give 3 star rating, but the service was excellent so 1 extra star. All the waiters were friendly, patient in explaining the menu and catering to our dietary requirements, and were very attentive.

Amazing food, the recommended dishes by the staff were perfect. Food comes a bit slow, but definitely worth the wait.<br/>Tuna tarts and beef rib are must try’s!
One.hungry.girl10
This restaurant is a sister to the Famous Rice Paper Scissors but has a totally different vibe and food. This venue is fancier and calm with food inspired from Bali and less Thai. <br/><br/>We had the chef menu which consisted of 7 dishes! 3 of the starters, 2 from medium size dish and 1 from the main. Our favourite was the beef short ribs with sticky sauce that is wrapped in lettuce leaves. It was tender, pull apart and delicious.
J0yy173
By the same owners as Rice Paper Scissors, the cooking style here is more Filipino and Balinese based, with influences from Malaysia, Thailand and Japan. Warmly greeted on arrival, we were quickly shown to our table. The menus were explained to us in sufficient detail so that we can make good choices. We decided to try all the entrees and enjoy a tapas style lunch.<br/><br/>The black sesame wafer with blue swimmer crab plus crab roe and Moreton Bay bugs with coconut thermidor and shellfish oil were particularly memorable. We were wishing for more but there were too many tempting dishes to order doubles of the same thing. The BBQ duck, lobster roll and kingfish sashimi were equally scrumptious. Such an innovative combination of ingredients to create taste sensations that were well harmonised. Their sauces were especially impressive - each one was unique and worth savouring.<br/><br/>Absolutely friendly and helpful service the whole time complemented by speedy turnover in the kitchen. The decor is cleverly modern and pleasant without spending a fortune. This place showcases Melbourne's great gastronomy scene and is definitely worth revisiting.

Got recommendation from a friend about this resto, so when I saw they are participating in the 50% off main meal with the fork, I booked a spot dinner for 2.<br/><br/>We ordered lamb and beef dishes for main meal, scallop dish from special menu, spanner crabs with fish roe, beef tartare with squid ink foam (my fave) and apple crumble with coconut ice cream. Really enjoyed ours dishes and impressed with how creatives and innovative the menu. Everything were delicious, interesting combination and complex tastes. I consider myself a foodie and I was really impressed with their foods. I was really impressed till I told about these place to few of my friends :).<br/><br/>Service was top notes and wine selection also great. Very happy with this place. Well done.
Samuel Braim
This place really hits the spot for quality of food. Price, service, and ambiance. The staff was not pushy to upsell or to move us out quickly. This place gets it right for price and food. It’s the best I’ve eaten for a long time. Seasoning just right. I am going to make it a place to make friends in the future, parties or just a casual meal. Highly recommended!
The Dear Luncher
The Dear Luncher rolled up to RPS with four other large gents. Everyone was hungry, really hungry.<br/> <br/>Things kicked off rather well when it was observed that Kaiju Krush cans were available from the drinks menu. This is an outstanding beer, and a really good match for the Asian fusion foodstuffs about to be consumed.<br/><br/>To snack on, while the objects of sustenance arrived, some salt and vinegar flavoured lotus root chips. The Dear Luncher has no idea what a lotus root is, but ate most of what was in the bowl anyway.<br/><br/>On the specials menu was some DIY duck pancakes. These were delicious. The duck arrived on chunks on shashliks, a but different from how you'd normally process this kind of dish. A lobster roll was also ordered by one fellow on the table, because he thinks he's better than everyone else on the table. Newsflash: he isn't. But he raced about the lobster roll for quite some times afterwards, so go ahead and order that bad boy with confidence.<br/><br/>Up next, three big shared plates - all originating from a different beast. A gorgeous beef rib dish, pork neck and lamb rump. Alongside these some of the jasmine rice and roti. A wonderful array of meats it has to be said. Plenty to go around. The pork, despite looking the least interesting was the tidiest out of the lot. Doused in a spiced honey sauce, it was melt in your mouth gorgeous. The pork is listed as being from the “Western Plains”. No idea if they mean Western Australia here or Werribee, but this a very nice little piggy indeed. They must look after them over at “Western Plains”. Next best was the beef rib. The sticky sauce it came with worked well, and even though it was a tad messy rolling this up in a lettuce leaf, it didn’t matter because there were bowls of water on the table for the dipping of the fingers.<br/><br/>This is a *very* tidy venue, great cuisine that doesn’t break the bank. Comfortable seating, good service, dimly lit. Lots to like about it.<br/><br/>4.5/5.

This place really hits the spot for quality of food, Price, service, and ambience. The first time I stopped by was a Friday night and it was fully booked. The host was excellent and friendly but we decided to return on a less busy night. The following Wednesday we arrived early to ensure we got a seat. At 6.30 we got a seat. There were three of us. We ordered 3 starters, prawns, veal tartare, and then lobster burger. I believe the names are more fancier than mine. Then we got two mains, the fish and the beef rib. Finishing of with apple pie for desert. I think they got every dish just right. It’s rare that I would say that. The staff were not pushy to up sell or to move us out quickly. This place gets it right for price and food. It’s the best I’ve eaten for a long time. Seasoning just right. I am going to make it a place to take friends in the future, parties or just a casual meal. Highly recommended!

A bit surprised with the disappointing experience at Rice Paper Sister.<br/><br/>Service<br/>- Staff were lovely but the service was poor. We ordered a wine and it was never served.<br/><br/>Food<br/>- Did not cater to my tastebuds. Food was very bland and ordinary. Wasn't a fan at all.<br/><br/>Ambiance<br/>- Very pretty spot for a gathering. Enjoyed the ambinace too!

Rice Paper Sister is the sister restaurant of the successful Rice Paper Scissors. The place itself was quite spacious compared to Rice Paper Scissors on Liverpool street. Went there for lunch, I considered getting the express lunch menu, and the good thing is that they told me the menu first, turned out I wasn’t really interested in the menu, so I ended up ordering a la carte. First was the raw tuna, black caviar, on top of fried bread. It was small, bite-sized snack. It was pretty tasty, the bread was crunchy, the tuna was fresh, and it was well-seasoned. Next up was the moreton bay bug. Pro tip: eat it immediately while it’s warm. It was really delicious. I found myself scraping every last of the sauce. The last one that I ordered was the duck on toast, it was a special. The duck meat was tender, with a bit of refreshing yuzu flavour. The toast was heavenly, just the perfect texture. The sauce was flavourful. Definitely on the top of the list. It was overall a really pleasant experience. The waiter was really friendly and informative as well. Provided excellent and fast service. Definitely will come back to try their other dishes!

My partner and I dined at RPS recently and we were extremely impressed with both the service and food! We wanted to order the feed me menu, however because we were dining with the 50% off our bill via The Fork we were unable to (understandable), however the waitress kindly suggested we ordered the same items as the feed me as it wouldn’t really make too much of a pricing difference - but we swapped the veal tartae for the Morison bay bugs. Out of the 10 dishes we ordered, we were not disappointed with any! We also had the beef short rib and bbq pork neck (not pictured below), which were both amazing. Amazing experience at RPS and we would definitely recommend to friends and family looking for a well priced menu that truly delivers!

Went here yesterday for my bday and it was honestly amazing. Lovely staff, really interesting menu with diverse Asian influences. Highlights for me was the lobster roll, beef rib, smoked eggplant and the Whiting. Just delicious and really well balanced. Thanks so much team!

Highly recommended!! Every dish we tried was on point. Most succulent lamb meat, and the bread and butter they served at the start is amazing. I’m not usually a fan of fusion restaurants but this one has blown me away. Worth the price and will definitely be back again.

RPS reads really well on paper with an exciting menu and cocktail list. Their Vietnamese espresso martini spoke to me on many levels, in fact I'm taking a sip from a Vietnamese ice coffee as I type this. Tastes very similar to it with the sweetness from the condensed milk coming through, not sure what the burning of the bark added to the cocktail though (other than burn one of the straws). Also had a lemongrass Tom Collins, refreshingly citrusy.<br/><br/>The set menu originally did look good to ease out the guesswork but we wanted a menu focused on a couple raw items and desserts so decided to get a la carte. They were accommodating and we ordered our menu in 3 segments, just so long as you keep within your allocated time slot. A complimentary bun with yuzu butter started us off, bun was fluffy and butter smooth and creamy. Pretty much like a modern Asian bread and butter, I wouldn't mind starting off like this every time I dine.<br/><br/>The kingfish sashimi is another go-to item, fresh slices paired with passionfruit, caviar and some kick from the jalapenos. Pleasing on the eye and palate. The veal tartare with burnt eggplant was also great, mixing up the ingredients and wrapping it up with a betel leaf (?) and prawn cracker there's a lot happening in that one bite. Veal was tender and you get a bit of earthiness from the squid ink, snap from the beans and crunch from the cracker. Herbaceous yet mild. Wished there was more leaves as there was more filling than wraps.<br/><br/>We also got lobster rolls which to my surprise had been deep fried and I liken it to an upgraded version of a filet-o-fish. The meat however was springy and succulent and the mustard pickles cut through nicely. Definitely a crowd pleaser, don't recall any burnt nori in the rolls however (I think it was in the mayonnaise). We also ordered some salt and vinegar lotus root chips which we got later in the evening, the order had been misplaced and was on the house. Great crispy bar snack to go with your drink while you wait for your dishes.<br/><br/>For something more substantial we got lamb rump with kampot pepper, burnt eggplant (same as before) and enoki mushrooms. We found the meat to be tough at times yet tender other times. We were told that it is the characteristic of meat from that region, the more you know. I'd personally prefer another cut, perhaps shoulder or ribs for higher fat content.<br/><br/>To go with our protein we had some roasted pumpkin with mushroom XO and nashi pear. The mention of XO and I'm there, fragrant and sweet. As per recommendation from the waiter we also got some stir-fried 'kangkung' (water spinach), a great vegetable known for its snappiness and its ability to hold sauce within its hallow stems. The yellow bean sauce was addictive and I kept dipping my lotus root chips in them. Great choice.<br/><br/>For dessert we went for hot apple-pie with butterscotch and coconut ice cream, reminiscent of the old classic banana fritter with ice cream. Quite substantial, flaky roti with stewed spiced apples. The 'filo-misu' on the other hand was a mixture of Vietnamese coffee and Milo, light yet choccy. Not sure what the Filipino influence is from so hopefully someone can enlighten me.<br/><br/>I had a ball with the restaurant concept and really enjoyed the cocktails and starter dishes. Dessert I felt could have leaned more towards familiar Asian flavours than Western but that's just a personal preference. I feel like the spice level on some of the dishes were a bit muted, especially if chef Ross Magnaye is drawing his influences from Indonesia and Thailand. Ohh and he does a feature with Erwan Heussaff in "MELBOURNE's Migrant Restaurant Culture (Overnight Shorts)" on Youtube, worth a watch as the pair trawl through Melbourne's food scene.

Went here for a work function. Restaurant set up was fine. Relatively basic, nothing over the top. Nice relaxed feel. Food started with what looked like a marshmallow- relish. Followed by something that looked and tasted like a chip. Lobster roll delicious, however highlight is the raw veal. Main course beef solid, pork only letdown. Generous in courses, great menu. A few complaints about amount of food, I disagree. Value for money, unquestionable. Must visit!!!

UPDATE<br/>Well my partner and I went back to Rice Paper Sister and the service was excellent, the food outstanding and the price reasonable.<br/><br/>We had tuna, pork neck, bao buns and a range of other dishes. This place rocks! <br/><br/>It’s a must visit in Hardware Lane in the city! <br/><br/><br/><br/>OMGosh sometimes you visit a restaurant and you are totally blown away. Well Rice Paper Sister was that place for me. <br/><br/>The service was good and the food, was just perfect. <br/><br/>My partner and I ordered a number of dishes ranging from tuna to dry goat curry and a number of other dishes. The goat curry was the best goat that I’ve ever eaten, it just melted in your mouth and it was cooked so well. <br/><br/>And those lobster rolls were incredible, full of flavour and so yummy! <br/><br/>There were hints of spice and sweetness in some of the dishes and everything worked so well. <br/><br/>Everything was soooo delicious. This place is a must visit.

EatClub took me here on Friday evening. With 30% off and the reputation of sister, Rice Paper Scissors, it was a no brainer. We arrived at 8 15 pm but it was still full inside and we had to sit outside (it was chilly but they did have a powerful heater that they moved close to our table). We opted for the Chef's selection which I believe was $50 pp then $35 pp with the 30% off. Incredible value and the food was delicious. This is what we got:<br/><br/>1) Raw tuna and black caviar on fried bread<br/><br/>2) Issan style veal tartare, burnt eggplant and squid ink<br/><br/>3) Tapioca soft shell crab, togarashi and kewpie<br/><br/>4) Lobster roll, mustard pickle and burnt nori<br/><br/>5) Beef short-rib, sticky sauce and lettuce wraps<br/><br/>6) Apple, fennel, chilli and yuzu<br/><br/>7) Salt and vinegar lotus root chips<br/><br/>8) Baos with garlic yuzu butter<br/><br/>I enjoyed all of the above dishes which were full of flavours. The raw tuna, lobster roll and soft shell crab were my favourites. Nothing was too greasy/oily, fatty, salty or hard. Everything and particularly the meats were tender and melting in the mouth. The baos were fluffy and more-ish, I just wish there were more! Perhaps my least favourite were the lotus root chips which I thought could have done with a dip (in fact I used the kewpie from the soft shell crab and that was lovely!). Staff were friendly and helpful but there was a long wait period between the starter dishes and the main dish which was the beef short-rib with apple slaw as a side so by the time, they arrived, we were full! All in all, a wonderful experience that I would recommend.

Came here for my birthday lunch with a few colleagues with a voucher that they gave me due to a previous bad experience. Really did want to enjoy the experience again and forget the past. Food was really good, cannot fault it.... Tasty and very presentable. What was less appealing was the customer service. It wasn't anything in particular they did, but they just gave off a vibe that they didn't really care about serving us or being there. For example, when my colleague asked to pay by card, she was told there would be a surcharge, but when she asked how much the surcharge was, the wait staff told her they didn't know and that it varied between credit cards (as that was something the credit card providers set, not then). This seems like something that should be known by the restaurant. I guess all I'm saying is it's the little things that count when it comes to good customer service, and this place missed the little things.

Food was pretty good in general. The lobster rolls and bay bugs were really nice. We also had the kingfish in yuzu and white soy, which was good as well. For main, we had the BBQ pork with honey spice, which is pretty much their take on Char-siu. It was tasty but meat was a little hard. For dessert, we had the apple pie, which felt more like apple roti. It was amazing, probably our favourite dish of the night.

Great spot for Asian fusion with a more Phillipino/Vietnamese spin! I loved the fact that so many dishes were single serve. Makes it so much easier if you’re dining with people with different tastes. We tried the raw tuna on fried bread with caviar, the soft shell crab, the crab in black sesame wafers, the grilled prawns, the beef short rib and the Vietnamese slaw. The soft sheep crab was fantastic. I also really enjoyed the raw tuna morsel- really light and zesty. We also received a complimentary bao each with yuzu butter which was delicious.

Nice Night with Nice People. Nice Restaurant with Tasty Food. <br/>For Special. Raw kingfish 4 stars, passionfruit add make special which I like. Pork jowl nice.<br/>For Vegetables. Slaw so so. Eggplant signature but so common in my hometown. Pumpkin I like, why not?<br/>For share. Lobster bun so so. Scallops normal level.<br/>For meat. BBQ pork soft! Beef rib must order.<br/>For seafood. Fish not bad, but I do not like curry in this style.<br/>Friendly service, and not bad food. Enjoy your night.

Came here for dinner as a group of 10. Most of the food was really great. The most popular dishes were: lobster rolls, bbq pork neck, goat shoulder curry and beef short-rib. Personally, I also really enjoyed the black sesame wafer and the veal tartare. I found the lotus root chips to be quite average compared to the rest of the food. I ordered the Thaivaition cocktail and it turned out to be more alcoholic than I expected (still tasted great though). <br/>I was really glad Rice Paper Sister could accommodate for a group of 10 and prepared the dishes with great timing. Some of the group found the music a bit boring but I guess that’s because it is supposed to be a more intimate environment. The waiter that served us most of the time was a little weird; he took our comments too personally and was a bit awkward. The other staff who we interacted with were really nice though!

Went here today and had Chef's selection - 7 menus for $49 per head.  Chef chooses which menus with no chance to vary the menu unless you (say you) have an allergy.  Ok, sounds fun!  Ouch!  Chef chose menus that we added up, total cost $86.   A Few were great!  Soft crab, veal tartare and beef rib were great.  Others were simple, relatively low effort meals.<br/>Staff were run off their feet.  Worked hard and efficiently - impressive.<br/>Clientele missed the young energy of the sister restaurant, maybe to be expected at the price point.

I have been here several times in the last 6 mos and tonight was the least enjoyable. To start with, I mistook the bed of salt for rice on my bug entree - not a good start and this pretty much ruined the dish - my fault. My next dish was goat and pancakes and it may have been the previous dish but this seemed way too salty for me. Final straw, no one from my waiter to the person to whom I paid the bill asked me if I enjoyed my dinner. I won’t be back for a while. Solid 2.5+ only because some of was my fault.

If you’ve tried rice paper scissors before then this place is very likely going to (severely) disappoint you. Something about the food lacks the element of flavour you get from their RPS. I doubt i’ll be back but if you’re willing to give it a go, skip the lobster roll/bun and asian salad

Celebrated my birthday last night at sister. Food was awesome. Especially the pumpkin and beef ribs. Service was superb! Had a great time with my friends last night 😊

2nd time here in a couple months. I came back with 12 guests and was emailed and confirmed at 8pm. Upon arriving the staff told us it was actually 8:30, then when we all came back, our table was split into 2 groups of 6. So we didn’t really get to speak to the other side. They apologised for the timing mix up and offered free bottle of champagne or beer. But we were disappointed that they didn’t tell us our group was split. We weren’t really given a choice of menu. So, we went with the chef’s choice of 8 courses. Same food and taste as my review last month. 12people including drinks = $862. Sorry- went down 1 star. <br/><br/>The following was my earlier visit’s review which I gave 5stars: Well done yet again! Always been a rice paper scissors fan and the sister is the same but more refined. Staff service is excellent as some are crowd favs like Noel. The raw tuna with caviar is a must have along with vegan papaya salad. Bug thermidor, beef ribs and veal tartare were definitely different and worth a try, yum. The lobster burgers and king prawns we could have done without as we were stuffed. Both Lychee flavoured cocktails = perfect 2 ppl = $150.

It’s hard to rate this place and not compare it to its brother restaurant Rice Paper Scissors. That place is an undisputed 4 and unfortunately we can’t give half ratings anymore so I need to give this place a 3. <br/>The things that stood out here were the service and the raw tuna, caviar and fried bread dish which was phenomenal! The king prawns were quite delicious too as they came with a tasty satay watery sauce. <br/>I wasn’t a fan of the lobster rolls as it was fried which it didn’t specify on the menu. The eggplant dish was decent and the beef rib eye had a nice sticky sauce that came with it.<br/>I’m usually a cocktail type of guy and for the first time couldn’t find any cocktail on the menu that I actually wanted to try . They were basic and just spiced up with fancy names for limes and mixers. <br/>Also, the bathroom is outside the building and up a long flight of stairs . <br/>Before I forget they did give a complimentary soft bread rolls with an amazing buttery dip.

Decent alternative to the always hectic Rice Paper Scissors. We had the chefs tasting menu which started with lotus chips that tasted a little salt n vinegar n delicious. Soft shell crab followed which was ok and then the black sesame bite sized wafer with various toppings that was fantastic. The lobster roll was average and definitely not up to SuperNormal standard. Isaan style tartare was next and then the beef short rib which was the stand out dish and served in a sweet and sticky amazing sauce. It came with a non descript salad on the side. The staff were really nice and it was surprising that the place was so empty on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch. I’d still rate the original to be better, but I’m glad I saw the sister.
Tracey @ NoWongFood
I can see they do two different styles and I prefer being seated on dining tables at Sister rather than bar tables and stools at Scissors. Service was fabulous – we enjoyed most of what was recommended from the waiter. When we booked for a table of 4, we were told we could only have the table for 2 hours especially on a Friday night. We stayed well beyond this time – thankfully we didn’t get kicked out as it wasn’t packed. A plus to the service because we stayed for 3 hours. whoops!<br/>...<br/><br/>In summary, we had a great time with fabulous service. I felt it was a bit pricey for some of the appetisers ordered. The bill totalled to be just over $50 each. I’d revisit to try other dishes like

Enjoyed every dish of the asian fusion. Was different and staff was great. Small and cosy ambiance. Would come again. The lobster roll i must mention was super fresh. Best ive had so far in melbourne.

We dined on a Wednesday night and had a pretty good meal! My favourites were the short rib and goat shoulder curry, both packed heaps of flavour! The eggplant, tartare and lobster rolls were also tasty. I think because everything else was pretty good, desserts were a bit of a let down. Quite simple and they just didn't have a lot of stand out flavours. Service was super friendly and attentive. Also really enjoyed the patong beach iced tea(?). Overall a solid dining experience and I would come back!

Real rating 4.5 ⭐️<br/><br/>A couple of months back, we had been walking around the city not knowing what to eat and the decor of this place caught our attention - this was a start of a beautiful evening! Unfortunately I did not take a picture of their menu at that time and it has now changed on Zomato, so I will try my best to summarize what we had at that time!<br/><br/>Kingfish - this was so fresh and juicy that it actually melted in my mouth! A very good starter before getting into the mains! 👄 <br/><br/>Rice crackers with crab meat and caviar (I think - please correct me if I am wrong)? - I am usually one not to have caviar but boy was it such an enjoyable experience! The crunchiness of the cracker mixed in with the meat and caviar was just right for me and nothing overpowered each other!<br/><br/>Lamb short ribs - don’t you just love it when a meat has been slow cooked and it falls off from the bone? This is exactly what happened and boy was the meat extremely soft, tender and juicy! The salad was a beautiful addition and tasted so good with the lamb and rice!<br/><br/>Chocolate log with mandarin orange slices and sorbet - I would say that this was the star of the show as the chocolate log looked so real and it tasted even more amazing with the chocolate soil, sorbet and oranges! I was just in awe on how it looked so gorgeous and taste just as beautiful! A salute to their incredible presentation! 🤩<br/><br/>It was unexpected that we would have so much fun and would love to visit again soon! 👍

The new "sister" to Rice Paper Scissors has all the Asian fusion flair of the original without the huge lines to get in. A great hidden gem. The food was great but portion sizes are small as typical of its sister restaurant.

restaurant is well positioned and intimate<br/>Did not have to wait long for our meals considering it was a busy night. <br/><br/>Food is very tasty Tuna entree with black caviar highly recommended.<br/><br/>Staff friendly can talk through the menu and make suggestions well. <br/><br/>Price: approx $200 table of 4 <br/>4 entrees<br/>4 mains <br/>4 sides <br/>drinks <br/>well proportioned

This place is great. I came here tonight with Mum and we enjoyed the $49.00 chefs selection, which was excellent. The highlight was the service here. I never ask them to refilled the water and my cup was always filled with water. Staffs were really friendly.

Great asian fusion restaurant in town! Great food, great services, great location. The restaurant has a larger space, great for group or friends or family. The pork neck dish is to die for. Will be back for sure! :)

Since I have been to rice paper scissors numerous of times and I love that place, hearing about this sister restaurant made me so excited. We came here for a late lunch and as expected, it was fairly quiet. The interior looks spacious and it has a clean look to it. We ordered the lobster roll, roasted eggplant, bbq pork neck, and rice on the side. I find the lobster roll average. I wonder if we had a bad batch, since majority of the reviews I read raved about this. The bbq pork neck was pretty tasty but it became too sweet towards the end of the meal. Unfortunately, the roasted eggplant was a let down. I had roasted eggplant numerous of times and the texture didn't taste like it was cooked long enough to have that softer texture when it is fully cooked. I could have live with it, but the worse part is, it felt like they just put a dollop of spicy and salty schezuan sauce on top of it. One that you can buy from the Chinese shop. Before we paid for our meal, I was asked how was the meal so I gave an honest feedback and the lady who served us didn't take it well. I said that I was looking forward to this place as I heard it is a sister restaurant of rice paper scissors and was looking forward to the experience. She didn't take that well answering me, "this is not like rice paper and scissors, we don't do street food. Our chef came from Japan and we are aiming for a subtle taste". I do recommend that she should try that eggplant because, that is not subtle. It was down right salty. I know that you are not rice paper scissors but I was hoping for at least the same experience. One where your appetite will never be quench anywhere else because your taste buds will never be the same, and such food experience can only be accomplished in one place. Alas, such attitude left me on a foul mood. You should be able to take constructive feedback from customers. I want your establishment to do well hence I gave you an honest answer when you asked me about the food. After this experience, will I go back? No. Will I recommend it? No. After that answer and attitude that we received, thank you but I shall spend my money else where. I will rate it 2, just because we did enjoy some of that pork bbq neck.

Delicious food, love sharing a selection of plates. Our 8yo daughter told the waiter 100/10 so I guess you can’t top that! Awesome cocktails too!
Kim @FabulousDining
A busy, fast paced eatery with friendly staff and really good food. A few unique offerings on the menu which makes things interesting. It’s a good place for casual dining, a quick but delicious meal or to meet up with a group of friends. The ability to have share plates adds variety to the dining experience. I’d be happy to go back to try more of the menu.
David
Service was relaxed but attentive. Food was very flavourful and balanced. We had tapioca crisps, school prawns, black sesame wafer, lobster roll, pinoy BBQ chicken and apple pie. Cannot get enough of the BBQ chicken and the apple pie. Most surprising thing about this restaurant is the price. Incredibly affordable experience and cannot recommend it higher. Will be back!
Thefoodbotherer
Great central CBD location with excellent service staff and our evening was starting well. <br/><br/>Cocktails were amazing but the real standouts was every single dish we ordered. <br/><br/>The tuna toast with caviar special I could have eaten another 10. Loved the spice and well who can resist caviar I ask you. <br/><br/>Duck salad, pork belly, prawns, wagyu beef all so different but with equally tantalising flavours. <br/><br/>Highly recommend <br/><br/>
An Antelope
Phenomenally fresh food with exciting flavours! No dishes, not even the kankung side dish, lacked punch. The standouts were the roast suckling pig, Filipino goat shoulder and anything with their coconut adobo sauce. We had a special “mushroom sisig” which I wish could be a regular item. Our waitress was friendly, and made the experience even better.
The New Fave
Rice Paper Scissors’ sister restaurant (aptly called Rice Paper Sister) had a lot to live up to when it recently opened its door considering its sibling’s success. But patrons will not be disappointed when eating at this slightly more sophisticated venue (that actually takes bookings). . Giving Supernormal’s lobster rolls a run for their money, our starter of fried lobster rolls was the sort of dish worth dreaming about.  I know what you’re thinking - why spoil a beautiful piece of fresh lobster by frying it - but trust me, if you were to try this tasty little morsel you would also be converted -  a true highlight of my night. Although for my fellow diner, the highlight was the special starter of the day ‘tuna on toast’ - sashimi grade tuna topped with black caviar.
Richard
Loved this place. Every dish we ate was excellent, special mention to the goat and the "Kapow". The room is a modern fit out but I understand tehy are about to renovate. Food is share type arrangememt, a couple of spicey options but they are well marked on the menu.

Great food. Excellent Service. Ambience really nice and cozy. I had the best Mango Sticky Rice, i recommend they should put this on menu and make it regular. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What we liked and didn’t like so much. <br/>👍<br/>* The giant leap forward is highly recommended. We shared it between the three of us. <br/>* The dishes were immaculately presented. <br/>* The 16hr slow cooked filipino goat shoulder was the highlight of our meal. If you are undecided with their ‘a lot more’ selections, we recommend you try it. <br/>* BBQ calamari stuffed with filipino spicy pork sausage was an interesting mix of flavours. Definitely worth trying if you are after a unique dish. <br/>* The apple pie contained crispy and fresh apple pieces. We are keen to go back just for this! <br/><br/>👎👎👎<br/>* The tempura lobster roll was a let down. It is very expensive for it’s size.<br/>* Overall, the restaurant is pricey and you will need a number of dishes.

Great service and great food. Staff are so attentive and make you feel so welcome... so nice to be served by people who actually love what they do.. will definitely be back....

Love this place. Excellent food and service. Been here twice already. You must try the tapioca chips, papaya salad and the ribs. Pretty much everything on the menu is superb (my least favorite was the goat. did not enjoy it as much as the other mains). Also don't forget to try their mocktails and cocktails. The Asian twist on each drink is amazing. Desserts was nothing exciting hence the markdown.
Lizia
Great food, however my drink took ages to arrive and when it did, the bottom dropped out of the glass, and my drink ended up all over the table! Never had that happen to me before. To their credit they brought another one and didn't charge me for the drink.<br/><br/>The food was delicious and I especially liked the grilled prawns.

Perfect atmosphere for a dinner out with friends. Food was delicious - wouldnt fault it but no like flavour explosion, we were hoping they had a feed me option but looks like only for lunch times. Lobster rolls were a favourite.<br/>Service was really good & reasonable prices as well.

Delicious food!! Everything we ordered was delicious! In particular the lobster roll was so good. The staff were so awesome and really funny too :) they had good music playing too

Rice paper sister is a lovely restaurant. Dishes were all tasty and super flavoursome, would definitely recommend the kingfish sashimi dish!

Friendly staff, nice table layouts...food that covers every taste bud you have, and some you never met before.<br/><br/>It’s time like this that I love being alive.

Rice Paper Scissors sister restaurant. Very similar style bonus is they are not as crazy busy. Service was very friendly they recommended a few good dishes to us but flavour wise i still prefer Scissors.. Cocktails were very nice.

We celebrated my partners birthday here and was not disappointed. The food was amazing and the service was great. The beef short ribs are a must!

We booked a table and when we arrived we were seated at the bar. There were lots of empty tables so we asked to move and were told unfortunately no. Do we ordered some drinks and half an hour later when the empty tables were still empty we asked again. The manager argued with us for a while and eventually allowed us to move. <br/>The food was sensational. Every course was amazing. I recommend the kangaroo and roast pork.

A Friend and I sat outside for about 10 mins. The waiter inside saw us but chose to ignore us. Inside was empty, yet the waiter didn't think it was necessary to come serve us. after 15 mins, we got up and left. Poor service.

Absolutely delicious!!!<br/><br/>I'm just taking half a point off since the wait was a tad long between courses for a practically empty restaurant, but you know what, when the food is this good... I'm happy to wait a little bit.<br/><br/>Not often do I eat something and feel like every single element has a place in the overall flavor of the dish itself, but RPS really got this right. No garnish was unnecessary.<br/><br/>I think the only dish I wasn't blown away by was the duck, which for twice cooked was a bit soggy, but I'm not a huge fan of duck anyway.<br/><br/>Rice paper sister really lives up to the high standards of it's older restaurants.<br/><br/>I came back a few days ago in May and the food was still good but perhaps not as good? Just wanted to comment on our waiter who really made us laugh when he tried to tell 2 viets that bo la lot was from thailand and then at the end of the meal, tried to tell us that there were no malaysian restaurants in Melbourne. NO MALAYSIAN RESTAURANTS. I pointed out that Mamak was literally at the other end of the road and he has apparently never heard of it. We were stumped, couldn't figure out if he was trying to impress us or just taking the piss. 🤔
Gavin Gusling
Excellent, great food well prepared, great service and a long list of wine, cocktails and some of the best Asian tasting plates in Melbourne
Unravelled
I love this place! Every time I come I have the most delicious meal. The crab and roe on prawn crackers is so freaking delicious and the kingfish is also a major standout. I like the rolls here better than the lobster roll at supernormal. Had the eggplant dish last time I was here and it was also truly delicious. The calamari with sambal is great too, but a little spicy for some (not for me!!!). This place has great seafood options but is likely a little more difficult for a strict vegetarian. The Apple pie dessert was good but I would avoid the Vietnamese iced coffee as it was nothing special and doesn’t taste like it has any alcohol in it! Stick to the potent spirit based cocktails on the list. Can be a bit loud but during summer it’s nice to sit outdoors or at the window overlooking hardware lane. Go now!

super spicy and super bad service. Pretty slow service. Waiting for 30min for just 2 dishes and we are the only customers here. And the dish are very small. Will not come back:(

Flawless cuisine, would come back again! Flavour combinations are truly extraordinary. I recommend the kangaroo for it's in your face yet balanced flavour.<br/><br/>Staff were friendly, including the chef!
Joshua Yates
My wife and I came here last night and had an absolute ball. The servicing staff were quick and bubbly and the atmosphere was great.<br/>The cocktails were excellent, I recommend the 'A Great Leap Forward', an excellent drink that balances it's sweet and sour elements well to please people with either palette.<br/><br/>The food was absolutely incredible. Everything on the menu is made to be eaten in as a 'tapas style, shared finger food' and came out dish by dish with an appreciated gap in between. Each of the dishes we had, the King Prawns, Pork Stuffed Squid and the Beef Short Rib, were cooked to absolute perfection and I seriously reccomend trying any of these dishes.<br/><br/>In all the food was amazing, the cocktails prefect, the service excellent and the bill what you would expect to pay for all of the above. We'll be back next time we visit.
Heidi
An awesome find on hardware lane in the CBD! The green papaya salad was amazing as were the stuffed squid, but the hero of our lunch was the "babi guling" pork, it pulled apart so easily! It came with a jackfruit salad and yummy roti. It was sooo good!
MY NAmE IS Lee
On a sunny Melbourne afternoon the Rice Paper Sister outdoor dining was inviting. Upon checking the menu we knew this is a bit different to the standard laneway cafe offerings.<br/><br/>After some thought we settled on the Indonesian roast chicken, Balinese roast suckling pig, Thai jasmine rice and a lychee coconut mocktail.<br/><br/>The Indonesian roast chicken was yummy with crispy coated skin on juicy chicken, refreshing salad and super yummy caramelised chilly dipping sauce. The Balinese roast suckling pig had nice crispy crackling on tender meat, but the meat has a unique texture and the jackfruit salad didn’t really work for us, and we couldn’t finish it. The lychee and coconut mocktail was a little bit disappointing too and was hard to finish.<br/><br/>Overall the chicken dish was a real winner and that caramelised sauce yummy, could dip anything in it and it would taste good. The suckling pig and the drink were just ok, but not really enjoyable for us.<br/><br/>We will go back to try other dishes as there are some interesting looking options there.

The sister of Rice Paper Scissors definitely left us impressed and happy customers. The venue is more spacious than Scissors, and offers bookings too so you don’t have to line up! Staff are super friendly and accommodating.<br/><br/>First we got an espresso martini, which came with a smoking cinnamon stick and tasted delicious.<br/><br/>Food-wise, everything we ordered was outstanding! For 3 people, we ordered a total of 9 dishes including dessert. For starters, we got the black sesame wafer, kingfish sashimi, and kangaroo tartare. For bigger plates, we got the tempura lobster roll, wagyu beef on milk bread, miso roast pumpkin, and the babi guling. Our favourites were definitely the lobster roll, which was warm and soft and so generously filled with fresh lobster meat (a very different experience to chilled lobster roll), and the babi guling, the pork was cooked to perfection, the roti was amazing and the crispy pork skin was super crunchy!<br/><br/>For dessert, we got the forest floor and the vietnamisu. Both are definitely worth trying! We loved the tofu in the forest floor, it is very unique. The vietnamisu was our favourite though, not too heavy and the perfect way to end the meal.<br/><br/>I just wish that the portions were a little bigger, but other than that, everything was spectacular. Would gladly come back again!

The Rice Paper Sister is the newer, more “refined” version of Fitzroy and CBD favourite Rice Paper Scissors from owners Rahmie Clowes and Shane Stafford, and in the few months its been open has already impressed a lot of people.
Vegan Food Seeker
Food is amazing. Great vegetarian and vegan options- the tofu was cooked so well it was difficult to tell if it was tofu or pork- crispy, chewy and well flavoured. I usually don’t like ordering salads as they’re often plain, but the one I ordered here really makes me want to come back for more. <br/><br/>Well priced.<br/><br/>The alcohol flavour in the cocktails was too strong in my opinion and so I couldn’t finish mine. <br/><br/>It is very loud and busy inside. The service is poor. We had a table booked and had to wait for about 40 minutes before we could sit. The staff weren’t apologetic at all. Said they’ll bring us menus out while we’re waiting and took a really long time to do that too. <br/>

Was looking forward to it esp the babi guling. However, it wasn't as awesome as made out by all the hype. The other dishes we had were average. Still prefer Rice Paper Scissors.
Jonathan Ong
great meal!<br/><br/>highlights were the waygu beef on a milk bun, river prawns. lobster roll was interesting, cambodian beef rib was good, so was the miso pumpkin. crab sesame cracker was ok, lotus root chips was yum & crispy but slightly on the salty side.

This restaurant serves really nice Asian fusion dishes. Friendly and helpful staff. The lobster roll, king prawn and duck legs were really great! I will definitely revisit.
Qianyi Xie
Basically everything I ordered was GOOD. Their duck leg and lobster rolls are my favorites 😱 The king fish is fresh and the water spinach was delicious as well. Staff are friendly. Will definitely visit this restaurant again :)

So the little sister tries to venture out on her own, ey?<br/><br/>The restaurant is bigger and "nicer" and they take bookings. Otherwise Rice Paper Scissors takes the cake on all other measures. Not a bad try, Sister, however in my opinion the menu does not compare to the original Rice Paper Scissors restaurant. <br/><br/>Unfortunately the menu didn't really excite me. We tried the mackerel special, eggplant special, lobster roll and sambal calamari. I found the calamari to be too spicy, and the lobster roll was overpowered by the mustard pickles. The mackerel was a bit of a mishmash of spicy flavours and unfortunately we were expecting the fish to be boneless but it was not (our mistake!). The eggplant as well as the roti bread were probably my favourite dishes of the night. We also ordered the beef ribs but they never came so eventually we gave up and got it taken off our bill.<br/><br/>Thankfully, their desserts and drinks were their saving grace. The Vietamisu was delicious with a perfect balance of flavours. The lemongrass and ginger infused masala was subtle and showed good restraint. This dessert was possibly dare I say it, better than the Vietnamese ice coffee terrarium served at Rice Paper Scissors. The "Forest Floor" dessert was also beautifully presented, with the sweet tofu being surprisingly smooth, creamy and delectable.<br/><br/>Service was fine and pretty positive, other than the small mistake in our order.<br/><br/>May return again if I can't get a table at Rice Paper Scissors, but would prefer Rice Paper Scissors, mainly for their "Choose 5" option.

Blur swimmer crab tapioca crackers| kangaroo tartar| tempura lobster rolls| grilled Wagyu with burnt coconut sauce and milk bread| slow cooked goat shoulder| vietnamisu| sweet whipped tofu with mandarin sorbet. <br/>The highlight was the tempura lobster roll, crisp batter, juicy and bouncy lobster, and soft buns<br/>The vietnamisu was a bit of a let down as it barely had any coffee flavour at all. <br/>The sweet whipped tofu was a very interesting dish, it had flavours and textures similar to whipped cream cheese. Not overly sweet, and slightly savoury.
Food Baby
For starters, I really enjoyed the tapioca wafers and sashimi. The stand out for the mains was the grilled wagyu beef, and the Cambodian beef short ribs (they are melt in your mouth tender). This was finished off with the coconut white chocolate dessert, with a beautiful delicate sweetness that doesn't overpower.<br/>The service was attentive and catered for niche dietary requirements.

This place is awesome - not too often you see a drinks list matched so carefully with the food on offer. If you've been to Rice Paler Scissors you'll know how good the food is already. Great vibe and staff who know their sh*t.
MadDad
Knew nothing of this place beforehand. A casual drop in while walking Hardware Lane in search of a meal.<br/>Greeted by friendly, knowledgeable and polite wait-staff providing comprehensive description of menu, and just the right level of attention all evening.<br/>Food was truly excellent - strong and interesting flavours, well-presented and timed perfectly befitting a tapas-style, shared meal.<br/>Highly recommend this place - will return many times.

Having frequented the sharper branch (scissors.. get it??) I was hoping for something different, and was not disappointed!<br/>Service: amazing staff, attentive, great sense of humour. Glasses were never empty!<br/>Dining: high tables and bar stools. Bookings welcome. Not rushed through meals. Noise levels much better than RPS<br/>Food journey: truly enjoyable! I have an Asian palate and enjoy Asian fusion food. <br/>Started off with lobster rolls (generous portion and tempura lobster!), kingfish sashimi, school prawns. Straight into mains: Babi guling (absolutely loved this, meat tender and well marinated, roti was fluffy and crispy!), Filipino goat (soft and juicy), beef ribs (awesome) and kangkung. Ended with the specials dessert corn and vanilla pannacota, pandan custard and the apple pie! <br/><br/>Big smiles all around

Great food for good prices and fantastic service. The black sesame wafer was my favourite and definitely worth ordering.<br/>The atmosphere here was chill and perfect for after work hangs.
Debby
The sister or rice paper scissors. Honestly, Im not a fan of rice paper scissors, to me is their food is not bad, average but rushing. However its cheap considering a tapas kind of sytle. And when the sister comes up. I would like to try as they have a different menu. <br/>What I enjoyed here is the vibe and atmosphere is more relaxing and chilled and service is great. The food I enjoyed most are their crackling and their wafer with caviar. However the babi guling is not like what I expected. Its soft however its lacking in flavour for me. <br/>I was excited when they mentioned steamed rice with infused lemongrass and pandan however to my disappointment I didnt taste neither of them.<br/>Overall I still enjoy the service and dinner experience.<br/>
Sjhawk9
Lives up to its older sibling!<br/><br/>Get the galangal beer as a great kickstarter to your meal.<br/>The beef, chicken and food overall is the flavours and quality you expect of a RPS or a chin chin.<br/><br/>The lobster roll probably needs some work - but still fresh. <br/><br/>Pricing reasonable for the quality - just that its sibling is a little cheaper for the same quality. <br/><br/>But here at least you can book! Time is money!!!
Joan Lee
Loved the decor and the service. Was warmly welcomed from the time I walked through the door and was well looked after by knowledgeable staff the whole night. The cocktails were tasty and professionally made. The food ordered was great. So many great options on the menu but I had the pork scratchings, pork belly, squid special and sashimi. Every dish was immaculately decorated and tasted delicious. The only slight issue is that there is no where to put your bags or coat whilst sitting on the high chairs. Other than that, I'd like to come back to try the rest of the menu.
Good Food, Good Mood
First time visiting the Sister store... different menu, good vibes, and bonus points for bookings! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Food was fantastic - we ordered kingfish sashimi, king prawns, kangaroo tartar, and lobster roll. Kangaroo Tartar was definitely a standout dish, along with the lobster roll (it was battered, not shredded).
Plummy Loves Yummy
It's hard to compare to my life time favourite restaurant. Rice paper sister cannot compete with its big brother rice paper scissors. <br/><br/>Think of serena vs Venus Williams. <br/><br/>However. <br/><br/>The foods pretty good but inconsistent. <br/><br/>The kangaroo tartar is to die for. Very yummy and great flavour combinations we expect from rice paper. <br/><br/>Pork scratchings- how about swapping for pork crackle? Would be much more yummy. <br/><br/>Sashimi. Ok. But no competition for some of the lovely restaurants I've been to. <br/><br/>Overall yum food but needs tweaking and cannot compete with scissors. <br/><br/>
Lins Cooking
Would rather go to rock paper scissor in a heartbeat. The only nice thing about this place is you could booked it in advance. Food and drinks are sub par.
Flying Forward
Points for: punchy but well balanced flavours, attentive service<br/><br/>Dine Time: weekday lunch<br/><br/>It feels like a new "Asian-fusion" restaurant pops up every week, catering to millennials and charging amounts that would keep them out of the housing market for a while.<br/><br/>I've always been apprehensive about these restaurants because being from SE Asia myself, I question the authenticity, where the chef is from, and where they have trained.<br/><br/>So when I saw "Cambodian beef short-rib" on the menu, I think "what makes it Cambodian?" Nevertheless, I love short rib, so I give it a crack.<br/><br/>It arrives not long after the waiter provided a fingerbowl and two napkins - one for your mouth and one for your hands. They've thought ahead.<br/><br/>It's a large piece of short rib, with a zingy lemon and fish sauce dressing, and a pickled salad with a variety of mints. Accompanying it is meticulously prepared iceberg lettuce, with the outer edges and hard centre trimmed off, leaving you with a perfect palm sized leaf for you to wrap with.<br/><br/>The beef itself has a good balance of fat, and it's so tender you could pull it apart just with chopsticks in one hand. Wrap up a bit of beef with some of the mint and pickle, which just cuts through the richness of the meat. It's a perfect mouthful.<br/><br/>So what makes this so Cambodian? It's the use of coconut juice, soy, variety of mints, and the respect to the ingredients. I need to come back to try the Vietnamese Espresso Martini and other "fusion" dishes!
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
Update as at 27/09: I went back for a visit today and I can say their menu has changed and the quality has decreased unfortunately. Their pumpkin dish is sloppy and too cooked - the eggplants were not done well. They even changed seating of the restaurant which I am not a big fan of. Portion sizes have definitely decreased but lobster rolls remain outstanding.<br/><br/>Lizzie's first impression: It is a lot like rice paper scissors but they have a more refined menu. There were more variety in the menu and the staff here are so friendly and accommodating.<br/><br/>Lizzie enjoyed: The grilled prawns are a must try! They were so fresh yet tasty. The lobster buns had generous amounts of lobster and honestly beats supernormal's in my opinion. I also really enjoyed the duck leg as it just fell apart so easily! <br/><br/>Lizzie did not enjoy: The calamari dish was nice, but didnt look too appealing overall. Not sure if this is a con, but they don't have a bathroom within their restaurant...<br/><br/>Lizzie rates overall: A lovely place for a catch up over good food. I will defs come back to try their other dishes. Its a great place you would want to go as a group to share the dishes.

Delicious! Great for a long Sunday lunch. Impeccable service, great food. YUM...............................................................................

<br/>Reviewing the reviewers. <br/><br/>Here we go again!!! <br/><br/>And another expert has arrived. "FOOD AC!!"<br/><br/>I'm not sure if Food AC is a wannabe restaurateur or just a sook. After reading this "reviewers" comments about several restaurants I really wonder what they are trying to achieve. Comments like, over salty, sparse seafood, slow service, high prices, bad fit out once again reek someone pretending to be something they are not. <br/>Seriously why bother going to the many establishments you go to and feel the need to say something, anything to justify your Zomato presence. There are plenty of people sprouting rubbish around already why do you feel the need to be yet another food blogger?? <br/>On a more serious note I'm sure that you are never wrong, are perfect at your job, never make mistakes and live a perfect life. Like you expect every restaurant you go to to be everytime for everyone. <br/>I'm sure Rice Paper Sister didn't go out and spend upwards of $500k fitting out their restaurant, signing a lease, hiring staff, creating a menu, advertising etc. etc. etc. so another wannabe foodie like you could add their ill informed view rightly or wrong about your experience there. Maybe instead of adding to the increasing amount of vomit purged on this type of site you could spend one minute conversing with the manager or owner about your experience good or bad. <br/>Just a thought!!!<br/><br/>By the way I'm in no way affiliated with this restaurant, but am a restaurateur sick of reading the rubbish people feel the need to write. <br/><br/>Watch this space!!

This place is goooood. Food is brilliant and well portioned. I'm not much of a "share plate" kind of guy but it worked well for the 4 of us. Being Asian fusion you'll encounter some heat. (Chilli) Wait staff are pleasant, attentive and well versed on the menu. Good with suggestions. They also didn't mind splitting the tab. So few places do. Well worth a visit, we'll be back.
Martin Giblin
Great looking venue, very tasty food & excellent service!<br/>Aunty Kim's tap beer is very refreshing and I could have made my way through all the cocktails if I had enough money!!<br/>These guys have done it again!!<br/>Can't wait to go back to try more delicious thinks!!!
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
Rice Paper Sister, the sophisticated sibling of Rice Paper Scissors, is only two weeks old but is already leaving quite the impression. Chef Ross Magnaye, who was head chef at the Liverpool St branch of Rice Paper Scissors, has moved over to oversee the kitchen here. Like Rice Paper Scissors, Rice Paper Sister is based around shared dishes but the food is a bit less street-style in nature.
Katy Jenkins
We had an amazing dinner here last Saturday. One that we will remember for a very long time. The service was very friendly and professional, the food was sensational. The tartar of kangaroo, wagyu ribs and twice cooked duck were just a few of the outstanding dishes we had.<br/>AND great value for money. Such a winner.

We came during a quiet Sunday afternoon after hearing that it was the sister restaurant of Rice Paper Scissors. Naturally expectations were high but the food was delicious and we weren't disappointed. The wait staff were super friendly and helpful and spent time explaining the menu. Will definitely be back.
Melody.mt.tang
I had a great time catching up with friends here.<br/>Service was excellent, the staff really took time explaining the menu and giving us recommendations.<br/>Everything we ordered was great too~<br/>We had the king fish sashimi, crab and caviar on crisps, kangaroo tartar, lobster rolls and fried whole flat head in sweet chili sauce 🌶 extra chilies on the side if you want more challenge!<br/><br/>Would recommend ❤️
Foodie AC
I prefer the brother. The only benefit of Sister v Scissors is that they take bookings. <br/>Higher prices here not justified by layout or the food. <br/>Much prefer the multiple small dishes of the original. Duck was nice but chicken was bland. Disappointing.
Renee Magnaye
I was excited to hear that Rice Paper Scissors were opening a new restaurant so expectations were very high; and they did not disappoint! <br/>Just like the namesake, Rice Paper Sister feels like a more refined & sophisticated older sister of RPS; with their carefully cultivated and polished menu, and stylish interiors accompanied by top-notch service.<br/>The hiramasa kingfish, pork ribs & babi guling are must-haves! Will definitely be back for more soon!
Christina Hanley
Highly recommend the goat salad! Nothing beats their whipped cod roe with tapioca crackers as a snack, so make sure to try it out! An overall awesome place for dinner, good value for money! I will definitely be back and can't wait to try out what else rice paper sister has in store.
Foodandwinefan
Visited for a quick lunch and it wasn't particularly busy but service and food took ages. Over salted and flathead was over cooked and dry. Overall unimpressed and wouldn't come back at that hefty price tag.
Lovefood
came here bc 1, their sister store rice paper scissors in CBD was amazing, affordable and tasty. 2. they do bookings! yay!<br/><br/>food here is more expensive, everything is soak in fish sauce or salt. some decent dishes, spent about 350 here and it wasnt worth it. go to their other store.
Lorraine Stafford
Came here on a trip<br/>From Sydney and would have to say it's the best food we ate I our trip <br/>Highly recommend. Lobster rolls a must and great interesting wines too
Juicy Jay
Delicious fusion food and you can book at this one! Highlight of our meal is the black sesame wafer topped with fresh swimmer crab, wagyu beef on grilled milk bread and babi guling. Can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu.
@twogoodtoresist
Rice paper sister is a delicious Asian fusion restaurant with intriguing and distinct flavours which leave your tastebuds wondering what just hit them (in the best way possible)! We loved the ambience of the restaurant and the classy take on their more street food themed sister restaurant- rice paper scissors. The cocktails here are both stunning, different and tasty! The menu offers a range of unique dishes such as kangaroo tartare and lobster rolls with interesting and distinct flavours. The miso pumpkin dish, Indonesian wrapped chicken and wok tossed kankung (a side dish with yellow bean sauce) were certainly the stand outs- flavoursome, unusual and generous in serving. With food designed to share, rice paper sister guarantees a fun, flavoursome and funky feed which you will not regret!
Tina Tran
I'm a big fan of Rice Paper Scissors so had pretty high expectations of Rice Paper Sister. <br/>It's a bit pricier than Rice Paper Scissors but I didn't think the food was as good.<br/>Really enjoyed the tuna sashimi special (they should definitely include this as part of the main menu) and the Wagyu beef. <br/>The pomelo salad and Babi guling were only okay. <br/>It's only early days so I'll be back to try a few other dishes.
Emma Gualtieri
We had dinner here last night and had a great time. The atmosphere is somewhat more relaxed than rice paper scissors, the service was fantastic and the food... wow! We had the wagyu dish, the lobster roll and the suckling pig with roti and all dishes were packed with flavour. Yum! Our vegetarian friend was also offered most dishes in a vego version! I would highly recommend this place.
Clarinna
Went for a dinner yesterday at this newly opened place by Rice Paper Scissors. My friend made the booking and YES they take bookings here! We were seated at the corner and the table size was great for five people considering most of the tables are communal with high chairs. Everything on the menu sounds really good so we ordered a lot and ended up paying over $50pp. Its much more expensive compared to the other branches probably because they don't have the 5 course deal. What we ordered:<br/><br/>★Black Sesame Wafer with swimmer crab<br/>★Grilled Wagyu Beef with milk bread<br/>✓ Lotus root chips <br/>✓ Tapioca Crisps<br/>✓ Crispy Lobster Roll<br/>✓ Jumbo King Prawns (good but the sauce needs a bit more kick)<br/>✓ Vietnamisu <br/>✓ The Forest Floor<br/>x Wok Tossed Kangkung <br/>x Wok tossed Calamari (the sambal was not spicy and the calamari were a bit undercooked)<br/><br/>Everything was really good except we wouldn't order the wok tossed kangkung and calamari again. The service was really good, fast and friendly. Some dishes come with two pieces and instead of ordering three or two, the staff made them enough for five of us. They also kept checking on us to see we need more water or anything, they also changed our plates in between. Definitely recommend this place if you crave for Rice Paper Scissor style food yet don't want to wait too long.
TC
So happy to see the sister restaurant to Rice Paper Scissors open in the city, hence the name to one of my long time favorites! The original venue is known for unique fusion flavours with a set menu for two making for small serves for a taste of everything! Loved the flavours and different menu here at Rice Paper Sister however was disappointed there was not set shared menu at a city lunch price point. So while it is a pricier lunchtime option, the dishes we tried were all fantastic, especially the Wagyu Beef which was so tender and flavoursome and the Papaya Salad which had prawns and pork to make it a fresh and fulfilling dish.

Hit up the new joint of the ever promising rice paper scissor on a Friday night to find a perfect nook for five - thanks host(!), against the mural overlooking the clean and fresh fitout of the rest of the space! Delighted by the beautiful looking and sweet scented freesia on the table, ordered some Vietnamese espresso martini - come garnished with burnt cinnamon - and off to a great start! Food was served pretty quick and at a fitting pace! Lotus root chips is always a winner - salt could have been sprinkled more evenly though! Next up is wok tossed calamari with fiery Malaysian sambal, definitely deliver what it promised! Would have loved the calamari even more charred; that said sambal was spot on! Lobster roll is not a typical one, which makes it all the more exciting to devour - the bun, pickled mustard and nori mayo!! Lobster was succulent and just on point! Oh the next few dishes just took us straight to Bali - jimbaran spiced butter prawn, babi guling (suckling pig for the uninitiated; not pictured), indo roast chicken with lemongrass salad! Da yummmm! Not to mention Peking duck, pork ribs (not pictured) that just fell off the bone and some pretty looking wagyu on toasted milk bun that tastes as good as it looks (not pictured)! Everyone was just too full to have any dessert! Will def return for more! Love this joint for its comfy and bright fitout, impeccable service as always and most importantly, South East Asian tapas done right! Love how they could cater for the amount of people you have so you don't have to fight for a prawn or half a lobster roll lol. Keep up the good work guys! Love from happy campers xx

Visited on their grand opening night. A Le carte version of rice paper scissors. Around $60 ph with drinks. Friendly service, bigger menu. An other nice place at hardware st.

Simply amazing. <br/><br/>Try:<br/>Black sesame wafer topped with fresh swimmer crab, crab toe mayo and black caviar! <br/><br/>"Babi Guling"<br/><br/>Slow cooked Burmese style goat shoulder<br/><br/>

Rice Paper Scissors' grown up sister. Highlights include the Kangaroo Tartare and the Goat Shoulder. Took my vegan friend with me who was spoilt for choice also! To drink, definitely try the El Chaperol, and for dessert the apple pie is a winner. Overall 10/10 for service, food and drinks! We loved it!
