Had breakfast here as part of the Manchester Unity building tour and it was great. The coffee was excellent and the food was delicious. I have a weird citrus allergy and the staff and chef were great in accommodating. I even got a special dessert just for me. Thank you again for the great meal. We'll be back.
What a legendary place to eat. Phenomenal service, great staff, could highly recommend. I'm sick of all these entitled people thinking you guys owe them you guys rock!
Beautiful atmosphere, delicious food, yummy coffee and beautiful friendly staff, def worth a visit!
What a gorgeous little gem this place is. My daughter had lunch there today and we were looked after wonderfully by the staff and ate delicious pizza and the scrambled eggs on brioche bun. Great service beautiful food, we will definitely be back.
Had a lovely time at 1932 Cafe, food was absolutely delightful accompanied by very speedy and hospitable service by a young waitress named Sophie. Above all was the amazing coffee! Loved the atmosphere and banging playlist. Will for sure be back and recommend it to anyone living or visiting in Melbourne!
I celebrated my five year work anniversary here for lunch with my team members today and everyone loved the food. The staff were so friendly and so easy to deal with. We were able to pre-order our food beforehand. I received my glass of champagne which was a lovely surprise. I had the bbq pulled pork burger which was amazing. Definitely worth every penny
Lovely afternoon tea, with copious amounts of cheese, a sweet dessert, glass of bubbles and tea or coffee. The tour is really an eye opener to the history of Melbourne during and after the Depression, and also an insight into the dying art of Art Deco restoration.
Did the early 8:30am tour of the Manchester Unity building with breakfast at the cafe. What a great experience from start to finish. Great staff and beautiful food and coffee.
Great coffee.
Breakfast choices very good.
Service also spot on
First day in Aussie - had a great cup of tea, staff were fantastic - brilliant place - thanks!
We came here for breakfast as part of the building tour. We arrived at 8.05 for an 8.30 session and were not allowed to sit down and pay for a coffee.....we were told that we would not be seated until 8.30 like everyone else. After finding coffee elsewhere we came back at about 8.20 and most people were seated. The food was good, but not great and the pro secco was very sweet. Dessert was fine. The tour of the building was very good and the guide was fabulous. At $65 pp person I think it is very expensive for what you get.
Nice spot to stop in for a coffee and salad! The food it great, the coffee tasty, and the service very fast!
Something about the look of 1932 from the outside made me feel hesitant to try it, but can confirm that it was much better than I expected! The food is simple, but done really well. The only down point was the coffee. It is not the greatest (unsure what beans they’re using) but definitely passable. However, overall, I would come to 1932 again if passing by.
We enjoyed breakfast here as part of a Manchester Unity building tour and it was amazing! Lovely glass of prosecco on arrival, Tea 2 teas, delicious breakfast, followed by an equally beautiful dessert. My potato dish with smoked salmon, hollandaise poached egg, and avocado was very memorable. The wait staff were friendly and made our morning special. Highly recommend, and a most enjoyable way to see one of Melbourne's iconic buildings
I like this place. It’s small and cute. Does the job for a hungry stomach and has a varied menu.
Once again I will say it’s nothing flashy. There’s no candy floss towers or crazy panacottas but tasty none the less.
I got their pumpkin salad with eggs and sourdough. I really enjoyed it. I love pumpkin, greens, eggs and bread so it really hit the stop. I have had better but that doesn’t mean this was bad.
My friend had eggs Royale with a hash brown and very much enjoyed it.
The staff were ace.
7.5/10
Situated at the stunning ground-level arcade of the iconic Manchester Unity Building, 1932 Cafes brings back memories of the good old 19th Century glamor. Be fascinated by the stunning displays Art Deco and period pieces throughout the restaurant, though certainly don’t expect a meal dating back to the 30s.
1932 Cafe has combined the best of both worlds, offering patrons a modern day dining option with stunning old-world vibes.
Great little cafe in Manchester Unity Building ground floor. on Swanston st great food . We only had breakfast there. Good coffees . Friendly staff. Will go agaon

Will be back for more.
PS when it's crowded, i don't think it will be as nice. This is a place to relax and have a quiet chat.
Finally, a cafe that's conducive to my dream of being an Art Deco era mafia boss who loves jazz music and eats breakfast foods for lunch. In all seriousness though, this is a lovely little establishment. Great food and friendly staff. My only complaint was that because I went late in the day, they were out of orange juice, but that was more my fault than anything. Would recommend.

Tried this Cafe as part of the Manchester Unity Building (1 of my favourite Melbourne building) tour. Dishes are lovely and great coffee too!
Great place to hid away in the CBD. Food was great and fantastic price. So happy I stumbled into this cafe. Looking forward to going back again.
Lunch and tour package. Pulled pork burger very tasty. Beautiful Art Deco architecture. Too full from lunch to eat dessert. Good choice of green tea.
The perfect poached egg, house cured trout and great coffee. What a great way to start the day and the friendly service added to the experience. Thank you!!
Found this place by chance as it is tucked away in the foyer of the Manchester United building. It has an decor in keeping with the Art Deco building and on the cold morning that had a coffee, I found it to be warm and inviting. The service was prompt and coffee was great. A recommended location for coffee and catching up.
What a great experience! We enjoyed the champagne breakfast before doing the MU building tour - just fabulous! The food was delicious & the staff attentive & friendly with a great eye for detail.
What a fantastic place with a great atmosphere. The food is unbelievably fantastic and service and staff are second to none. Thanks for a great experience.
I recently went on the Manchester Unity Building tour, with afternoon tea at 1932 Cafe & Restaurant. Food, drinks, service and atmosphere was fantastic. Delicious cheese plate, wine and dessert - I'll be back!
Full of charm, great atmosphere and I love the Jazz Music which sets it off nicely. The meals are well cooked, tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced. I found my pasta dish to be very tasty. Definitely will be coming back to visit the restaurant next time I'm in Melbourne. Must recommend their fish and chips. Light fluffy chips and the fish was delicious. Does cater for those who are gluten intolerant.
We've been here several times and each time we arrive, the staff are warm and professional, the coffee is consistently outstanding and the food is delicious. I highly recommend this inviting 1930's style cafe. You have to try the bathrooms upstairs!
Enjoyed a fantastic breakfast here this weekend. Great service and fresh tasting delicious food. Would highly recommend it and we'll be back next time we visit Melbourne!
1932 is an Art Deco gem hidden away in the arcade of the Manchester Unity Building. The coffee and all day breakfast is so delicious, especially the 1932 full brekkie. The desserts are also to die for! You can take a look at the selection on the display fridge as you walk in. If you're interested in the history of Melbourne and the beautiful buildings from this decade, check out 1932 tours that include a champagne breakfast or lunch experience plus a tour of the Manchester unity building. It's such a unique and special experience for anyone who is in love with Melbourne!
Food great, coffee great, service great, if you haven't been in here before try it out! Aesthetically could use some greenery as it looks dark walking past. But the rest speaks for itself!
I really like the vibe of this cafe. It feels very retro but not tacky....which is kind of hard to pull off. The only (small) complaint is I wish the burger came with a few more chips.
These days the main topics of conversations that you hear a lot of are centred on exercise and eating healthy which includes smoothies and of course; products such as the Nutribullet, the Ninja, the Magic Bullet and any other intriguing fast paced named machines. Talking about what ingredients you put in your healthy smoothie each morning as well as learning about what specific fruits and vegetables combine to create the perfect flavour combination is all the rage. Welcome Melbourne’s first Superfood café Cupp – located in the heart of the CBD in the unique Manchester Unity Building Arcade (right near the corner of Collins and Swanston Streets).
I have previously visited Cupp Superfood (you can check out my blog post here after I was invited by Victoria Pajouhesh (the owner), so it was lovely to hear from her again – this time inviting me to try out the newly refurbished and renamed 1932 Café & Restaurant – which is owned by both herself and her husband. Victoria’s husband also runs Smile Solutions which is located in the levels above in the historic Manchester Unity Building. Together with checking out the Café, I was lucky enough to also participate in a private tour of the iconic Manchester Unity Building.
My regular for morning coffee! Fast, friendly and the best coffee in Melbourne. They remember your order and make my cold mornings a little brighter. Have had lunch here as well, the salt and pepper squid was so good I never wanted it to end! Definitely recommend, would also be great café to take clients to for a small meeting as it has so much class in the décor.
Step back in time.... 1932 has been lovingly decorated to closely resemble the original Manchester Unity Building arcade. As you'd expect, the menu has a wide variety of hearty, homely options, and has recently been updated for Winter. I've always found the service to be first rate, and I like the bustling, busy ambience. Highly recommended.
Yummo!!. 1932 is set in the heart of Melbourne in the beautiful Manchester Unity building.
The restaurant's friendly staff is always ready to greet you. I have eaten here several times and I love that breakfast is served all day . The Lunch menu has so much to choose from but I must admit, the 1932 signature pizza is yum!! Definitly must try if you want fresh food with a smile.
The best cafe around !. The food and staff are amazing. Their coffee is delicious and the decor is fantastic. I will be coming back for more :)
Fabulous!!!!. Go for the Thai beef salad! Food Delicious, Staff service is exceptional, Fabulous location! 10/10! Thank you!
Great food same with coffee and tea worth a vist
Good breakfast, great service. As usual, I'm starving when I arrived here, hankering for bacon and eggs. I sat outside and someone came to take my order immediately. 3 mins later I'm tucking in to a big pile of well cooked buttery scrambled eggs on a thick slice of sour dough, with a small mountain if bacon on the side. Don't think they are going for quantity over quality, this is a nice looking quiet little cafe that serves quality, well made quick breakfasts.
Possibly not the cheapest place you'll ever eat but you get more than what you pay for.
Edit: when I came back a day later, the waiter remembered me and my order and simply asked "same again?" Nice.
