What can be better than a post tennis drink at this lovely bar? Sitting at the bar with cool wine and nibbles helped along by the obliging and friendly staff continues to be a Melbourne delight. Perhaps some air conditioning might be a useful addition.
MoVida Next Door is the next door to MoVida, yes, I’m serious. We came in on a Wednesday night at 7:45ish and sat on the bar seats. Most seats were taken. I asked for recommendations for Tapas. We had the Miguel, lengua and bocadillo. OMG, loved tapas! My favourite would be the Miguel, which gave me many different tastes in one bite. We had the calamares as our main dish. It was fresh and tasty. The squid ink was a bit salty but could be the best dip with the free served bread. I would say it is one of the best places to have tapas or a small meal or a laidback night.
I keep coming back here because the food is delicious and the service is generally very good. You cannot book here so you need to be a bit patient but I've never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table. This place can get crowded and noisy but if you're Ok with this, it's a place where you get consistently delicious food at reasonable prices.
Flavoursome and beautifully presented food. Lovely ambiance. Attention to detail is excellent. Felt some dishes (octopus) were quite small for the price. The list of specials read by the waiter was much too long, fast and complex. Forgot them immediately. Having these listed on paper would be preferable. Looking forward to returning.
Tucked away on Hosier Lane is this amazing tapas restaurant that offers aS wide variety and they have specials on a board. The grilled octopus and the clams were my favourite
Came here on a whim as it was a last minute decision after work, we must have been super lucky was our party of 5 were able to be seated pretty quickly on a Friday night! I love every dish on the menu and the service was amazing.
Service was quick and the staff was welcoming! Staff know their menu and specials well and how to recommend so we just ordered one special from the board and several tapas. Dishes were bit small but really tasty. Variety of dishes, great for sharing to taste the different unique flavors. Would love to go back for more!
Oldie but a goodie. We rocked up here early anticipating a wait but we only had to wait 5 minutes for a table, sure enough the queue started to build up outside shortly afterwards.
We wanted to start off with a white in which the waitress was very knowledgeable describing the various characteristics to help us with our selection. We later moved onto sangria which was equally refreshing and fruity, perfect for this balmy weather.
They served us with complimentary bread with a side of olive oil and salt. Very crusty and spongy which helped soak up the seasonings. We also ordered half a dozen oysters, small and still retained its liquor prior to it being shucked. Creamy, briny and sour from the lemon, just had some weird aftertaste that I can't place my finger on, the back of my cheeks were tingling.
Shortly after a plate of Jamon Iberico de Bellota comes out with a side of tomato toast. The toast was crunchy and the tomatoes were very tart, whew. The jamon was very finely shaven with not as much fat content as I'd anticipated but the flavours were impactful, I swear I could taste the acorns the pigs were fed. That or it could have been the alcohol talking! I had no problem picking this off.
We also got some bocadillo which were mini sandwiches of ox tongue pastrami, Mahon cheese and aioli. The buns snapped with each bite, with that you get the tender ox tongue and a creaminess from the aioli.
The sardines in olive oil is a must get every time you visit. It comes neatly packed in a can, some Spaniards actually prefer this over fresh. It has to do with the curing, the quality of the produce as well as the kind of olive oil that goes into it. We stack these babies onto some toast and garnish it with some slices of garlic and capers. Simple yet complex. Next time I'll remember to pack my luggage full of canned goods!
Time for vegetables, what better way than to nibble on some padron peppers. Blistered and lightly seasoned with olive oil, vinegar and coarse salt. An initial bite would have you think that you've bitten into 1 in 15 of the spicy ones which was not the case for me, my friend however coped 3 of them. An excellent snack item.
Next up were mejillones which we used seaweed crackers to load up pickled mussels and whipped cod roe. Very pickley yet you could still taste the mussel and sweetness from the cod roe. I can't have too much of this as it was quite intense.
The clams in a pea and parsley sauce was really rich, it was served with bread to mop up the buttery sauce. At $26 it was on the pricier side especially with the amount of clams given, this is more of a dipping dish.
For dessert we got the torrija, surprisingly delicious. The fried brioche made the dish, perfectly crisp and went well with the poached pear, the walnut crumb gave it an extra crunchy texture and the honey saffron ice cream was fragrant and sweet. The espuma de Creama Catalana was an adaption of Crema Catalana which came in a fluffy foam with mint granita, lemon curd and berries on the bottom. A bit of a light dessert and lacked body, I'd prefer an original Crema Catalana any day.
The Movida group is a bit of a Spanish institution and garners a lot of attention given its locality next to Hosier Lane. Now to visit their other restaurants, hopefully there is a large variation in the menu.
Great place for a late lunch (after the lunchtime crowd has dissipated). Good wine list, and a good range of specials. Mussels and churros are especially good.
Went there after the races for more champagne and some tapas. We asked the waitress to bring us whatever she likes, her choices were great. Loved them all. Quick service so we had something in front of us almost as soon as we sat down. Very friendly. Sat us down quickly as well even though it was a busy day. Love having the tapas there as nibbles when on a night out to drink.
3.5. Have been to Movida Original and Aqui previously but never to Next Door. There are more tapas and less raciones here than the Original, and the space is smaller, but the food is probably better (from memory of my last trip to Original many years ago). We started with the jamon which came with Catalan tomato bread and they were both delicious!! I miss this tomato bread and it's great to know where I can find them in Melbourne. The toast was crunchy and tomato rub was perfect. Jamon was lovely as well. Olives were surprisingly great, good variety and all very tasty. Tortilla was a little underwhelming, cigarillo was ok (high ratio of pastry to meat), bomba was also ok (the sauce was nice but couldn't really taste the chorizo), salt cod was interesting and the bocadillo was very good. We also had the patatas which were a little bland, and the Catalan sausage which was an explosion of flavour and super tasty. The arroz caldosa is a wetter version of the paella and absolutely delicious, much better than the paellas I've had previously. For dessert, we tried the crema catalana and torija, both of which were very good.
I have to admit that I was expecting just another Tapas Bar, but was pleasantly surprised at the level of sophistication I experienced. It's not just Tapas, it's fine dinning on a small plate. I would have liked to have seen a bigger selection of dishes to choose from, but everything I tried was delicious, especially the wet rice dish that was everything but what I don't like in a dry boring Paella. Comfortable atmosphere, not too quiet so you can be rowdy with your mates without attracting glares. Good wine list, surprised to see a great selection of Portuguese and Spanish wines...a little disappointed there was no Portuguese Port however, it would have been the perfect way to finish off a great meal.
Friendly and professional staff that knew how to pronouce everything on the menu, very impressed.
4.3 is spot on. A cracking little place. The small dishes here are beauties. I had a few with my friend during our catch up today. We were talking so intently my note taking failed me a bit. The anchovy starter was a killer. Beautifully flavoured. The selection of smallgoods was great too. Add one other dish, an Albariño and a red I didn’t catch the name of (the conversation was intense), plus beautiful service from our Glaswegian server and you’ve got a great experience. It’s a terrific little spot. A great Melbourne experience.
It's a bit tiny but cozy. Service was quick and staff were welcoming. Started with Sangria and it was pretty good, thanks to the bartender. Staff know their menu and specials well and how to recommend so we just ordered one special from the board and several tapas. Dishes were a bit small but really tasty. The lamb was surprisingly delish with a balance among sweetness, spiciness and saltiness. Bomba was awesome, but the prawn was just ordinary. However, food were beyond average, even the bread was really yum, and the atmosphere was worthy a visit!
Opened a whole new world of Spanish cuisine for me. Before this place, I had always associated Spanish cooking with paella. It is way more than just that yellowy rice.
Loved the anchovy sandwich the most, the Bocadillo. Deep fried anchovy with pickled chili and cream sandwiched between two panini like breads. Packing so much flavor profile in seemingly simple dish.
Enjoyed the caramelised brussel sprouts. So charry, smoky and sweet. Amazing how vegetables can be presented in such flavorsome dish.
My partner and I occasionally venture here for 'date night' and always enjoy it. The customer service is always lovely and their sangria is the bomb. We always enjoy the food but do feel it's quite costly for the quantity you receive.
Came here with the family a few times and enjoyed it every time. Small and cosy place with dim lighting. Variety of dishes, great for sharing to taste the different unique flavours. Would love to go back for more!
Always had amazing food and service, bit expensive but I guess u pay for what u get , will be back , great selection of Spanish taps , good option if u can not get into movida ,
Fantastic night out for dinner was had here.It is expensive so beware of letting your appetite get away from you.The seafood is delicious and tasty the service was perfect.would definitely recommend.
Delicious, divine cuisine. I had a table by the bar, which was an interesting experience. The waiters were friendly and added to the ambience. Each dish was exquisitely presented. I only have two photos because I was unfortunately too impatient to eat the other dishes we ordered. My only improvement would be a more accessible cocktail menu!
Excellent. Very delicious food. Good service. Great wine. Their tapas style menu and their bigger portions are all excellent. Could not fault one of them. The venue and the menu is obviously not as large as the original Movida or the larger brother Movida Aqui (they don't even do reservations here) but the food is just as great! Venue is also very nice, tiny but cute. Highly recommended.
Delicious Spanish/seafood tapas at decent prices. Great tapas selection as well. Their desserts tended to be more on the savoury side though. Great lively ambiance, pretty good service, perfect central location. Highly recommended.
Last night dinner, so good. Loved the barramundi wings and the croquettes delicious as always. Think I preferred the chorizo bun with the aioli over the green sauce as was served last night but still great.
I purchased the cookbook some time ago but never got around to trying the food until now.
We decided to give MoVida Next Door a go on a quiet Sunday afternoon and we are glad we did - basically the Movida is fantastic.
We worked our way through the tortilla (moist and lots of flavour), the anchovies (divine), the prawns (sweet), Iberico ham (the kids hoovered that up, so it must have been good), the calamari (nice texture and flavour especially with the lemon) and the whiting (an acquired taste).
We finished with the cheese which disappointingly didn't include Manchego.
The kids tried the churro/donuts and gave them the thumbs up.
We also had the 2010 Senoria de Cuzcurrita from Rioja which was drinking very well.
Professional, efficient and friendly service.
Noisy but great atmosphere.
A must try in Melbourne.
Always delicious!! Wine is good and love seafood dishes plus very good mood. Have to wait for enter but it's fair enough!!Definitely Number one ☝️ place in Melbourn.
Our meals were delicious and the service was excellent. Definitely want to try the other MoVida and will go back. So many GF options for someone with Coeliac
Great food, exceptional service and a buzzy atmosphere. Smaller space than its larger counterparts but turned out to be a great choice. Had to wait 20 minutes for a table but drink order arrived promptly and kept us satisfied. All the staff were friendly and knowledgable. Recommend the wagyu beef (10 out of 10 from the bloke) and the anchovies on toast! Definitely would go back again.
Great place and nice atmosphere, next to the graffiti art alley.
The food were tasty, just came to try out all of there finger food tapas, I ordered the whole menu since their small anyway, bite size. Ordered desserts which was very good, dulce de leche and sorbet. It gets to the expensive side. Its good place to hang out for drinks and snacking on tapas, overall a great experience however. Customer service was beyond fantastic the attendant at the time was full of smiles and very welcoming. Will come back to try the mains next time.
This place honestly has the best Spanish tapas dishes in town! I love coming back because the food is always so consistent. I always come back for the airdried wagyu with truffle foam. I always go for different tapas dishes like the grilled octopus, the eel, the muscles. The main lamb dish is also sooo delicious. The staff are very friendly and attentive Can't wait to come back again.
Awesome place with amazing elections of bar snacks, wine and staff. So get in early to ensure you have seats available.
Paella is a must try and beautiful sangria
Oh wow! Another well delivered Spanish restaurant. Despite the no booking service, we were happy to swing by and waited 15 min for a seat. Tried a lot of the specials and they were absolutely delicious. Perhaps less on the innovative side to the original Movida, but lovely nonetheless.
Visited Movida during Whitenight. We had wonderful Tapas with great service. The Morcilla Blackpudding was delicious. The Croquettes were silky smooth with a crunch on the outside, yum. Both the sardines and garfish we wonderful. Hard to fault.
Great to have an opportunity to try so many dishes affordably. Great atmosphere great company yummy food and first class service. This is what makes a restaurant first class.
We tried a few different dishes and each one was small and bite sized. My friends and I were left content however not satisfied. For the price we paid, we were expecting more. The two dishes that stood out were the chargrilled octopus and ensalada.
Called in for a snack. Got a table at the window. Service was fantastic. Waiter explained all the menu which made it very easy to order. Ordered croquet, squid, chicken, black pudding, olives and a few other dishes to share between 4. Everything we had was delicious. No complaints at all would definitely go back.
Great Sunday lunch for 6 of us ending a huge weekend in the city. Left the ordering to our waiter Alex. Smart choice. Great food, his service brilliant. Fun atmosphere. Definite recommend.
Love the food and atmosphere here. It's got a great vibe. Best for 2 or 4ppl. Not suited for larger groups. Else too squishy. If u go late at night, the wait is generally shorter.
Thoroughly enjoyed tapas and a drink here and it would have been even better with a friend or a group. It gets busy but didn't feel cramped. The bartenders were so smooth with service that it was like watching a dance. Watching the chefs prep and cook is also fun if you're sitting that side of the bar.
Food was good, as well as service. Loved the scallop with parma ham and brioche donut. Was a little pricey to me but normal for Melbourne's CBD area I guess.
We wanted a table for 6 and had to wait an hour or so on an early Saturday evening. We eventually had to squeeze at a table meant for 4 but we were too hungry to complain.
The specials of the day were really yummy (clams and grilled prawns) and the usuals were great as well (chicken dish, grilled octopus). Deducted 0.5 off the otherwise full marks rating because all the dishes seem to have had a little too much salt.
Waiter named Jamie gave us quality service throughout and even threw in a huge complimentary surprise for us at the end. It was very thoughtful of him.
Would love to try Movida with a reservation next time round as it is definitely more spacious and has a nicer sit down
Loved having lunch here!
Separate GF menu available allowed plentiful tasty options being coeliac.
Couldn't fault any of the dishes my husband and I enjoyed - we shared tapas of mixed olives, small goods, Manchego, Spanish omelette, pork neck skewer, and for dessert; goats milk cheesecake with blueberry sorbet and chocolate fondant.
Great atmosphere and nice service
Great atmosphere to this place and a very convenient place to swing by after work for some Spanish dinner & drinks! I'll concede that the result didn't quite match the hype, but that was always going to be difficult given the rave reviews around Movida.
Service was A grade - sit at the bar, they'll never miss when you need/want something!. The two desserts (baked brioche w/cinnamon ice cream & choc ganache w/coffee and brandy ice cream) were the real standouts, and the chorizo sausage was a highlight as far as Tapas goes. The other dishes, including the baby chicken & egg and potato tortilla were nice but were slightly lacking wow factor.
Definitely a place you can enjoy some great Spanish food, but I feel it's a minor victim of public perception.
Waited just over half an hour which was expected for a Friday night. Restaurant was loud and crowded. Overall good Spanish tapas experience. Very exciting and flavoursome. Our favourite would probably be the Anchoa (anchovies with goats curd, capers and tomato jelly). A courageous choice at the time but so glad we ordered it.
On a Friday night, after work, I love this place. Great place for when you feel like a couple of tapas dishes, everything seems to be filled with lots flavour. Cosy-smallest size restaurant and you may find yourself manoeuvring around your wine glass to get to the chorizo.
If you love spanish food - or even if you don't usually love spanish food but appreciate delicious, full of flavour food - then get yourself down to MoVida Next Door. We ended up here last night after missing out on a table at Chin Chin, and boy am I glad we missed that table! Had forgotten how amazing this place is. The restaurant is small but buzzing, with a line of people out the door. Bit of a wait for a table but their decent wine list kept us busy. Is it worth the wait? Oh, it is SO worth the wait. Do yourself a favour and order the king prawns - the best prawns I've ever had this side of Madrid. Just pulled from the ocean fresh, bursting with flavour - YUM. Desserts are worth a look too - their creme brûlée is ridiculous and deserves a blog post on its own.
Best Spanish food in town! Set menu is great to sample all the tapas this restaurant got to offer. Would definitely come back and recommend to family & friends.
Regular place, very very lovely and friendly staff and very delicious dishs ,but the price is a little bit expensive .
We stayed right next to MoVida on a recent trip to Melbourne, and my god it was delightful. Went for dinner one night and between the four of us, ordered just about everything that was on offer (perhaps we went slightly overboard...). Highlights were anything with the chorizo (the bocadillo de chorizo omg) and apparently the fish dish which I didn't try myself but heard rave reviews from my fellow diners.
Also, I'm not sure what they're putting in it but the red sangria here is on another level. So subtly spicy and beautiful. We ended up coming back the next night just for sangria the followed it up with a jug at the airport branch. I'd probably bathe in it if I could.
Staff were pleasant and dealt with me kindly when I'd had one sangria too many and became slightly too chatty...
100% will be back the day I step foot back in Melbourne for some sangria and chorizo.
Hmm, I didn't enjoy this place as much as it's counter part however it is still pretty good. I loved some of the drinks they had going and well the food was good, some of the potato tapas didn't quite hit the mark but they were still pretty decent. I loved the vibe in this place and the service was great as they staff seemed knowledgeable.
Had some tapas here. Really fresh, interesting food, a good range of sharing dishes and the service was great.
This place gets packed so I'd recommend that you get there early or you'll miss out. I had to go there twice before I got in.
The wine and beer list was good too, lol.
I've been here twice & the food is good. It's always busy & can get quite noisy. The banquet is always a good choice. The paella is delicious
One of my favourite go to places in Melbourne. It's so different and perfect for when you don't feel like a formal sit down dinner. Love the casual tapas environment and feels like I'm back in Barcelona at a little tapas bar in the Boqueria market. A great variety of food on their menu and the dishes are always on point. My favourites are the gambas, wild mushroom croquetas, bocadillo de chorizo and eggplant chips but I could go on and on. They also have seasonal specials which are great and topped off with a nice variety of Spanish wines makes this place something special.
I've come here several times after work with my partner on date night. Reasonable prices, food is always delicious - specials normally change but adds to the excitement... And of course - Best Sangrias! 😋🎉
Loved it. Great food, delicious wine and friendly, sharp service. Can't fault this place. It's obvious why they are always so busy. Will be back for sure.
Interesting decor and food. Staff friendly and prompt. On the negative the eggplant chips were oily. Also considering it was pretty casual it's relatively overpriced paid $150 before drinks.
Went here last night and was not disappointed at all!
We were able to book a table which is rare for Melbourne these day and sat at our table as soon as we got there... My friends and I all shared dishes, massive highlights were the fresh mussels in a creamy white sauce, the white anchovies, eggplant chips and the churros to finish of course. Portions were perfect for sharing, a little on the expensive side but well worth it as the quality is amazing! The service felt a little rushed and the drinks list is small but all in all was a great night out.
A spinoff of Movida Restaurant, Next Door centers around a bustling bar and is a crowded, loud yet convivial eatery. Mosey up to the bar and meet your neighbors over finger-licking good shareable tapas. Daily specials are listed overhead on the chalkboard above the bar. An extensive wine list pairs well with the menu. The Bocadillo de Chorizo, Queso Manchebo and market fresh Peccadillo Whiting fish were excellent.
Loved it here (again) had a 30 minute wait and started getting a little nervous as we were headed to the Taylor Swift concert, but as soon as we were seated ordered and told them our time frame. The staff smashed it out and 30 minutes later 2 drinks and some delicious bomba, prawns, beef and tortilla we were on our way to the concert. $99 in such a hurry didn't take food pics so here is one of the concert instead.
Service:
The bar waitress is really lovely n passionated. I guess she is the boss coz I never experienced so much enthusiasm from a person works for others not him/herself. My point is her passion is the soul of the whole restaurant. She introduces the special for every guests sitting on the bar table nicely tho she is hot n busy.
The food:
I love the food here. Not usual one. Churro n drinking chocolate were beyond my expectation too much. Love them.
Environment:
The outside of the restaurant is the famous graffiti street. Sitting inside n looking at outside is colorful image which is really enjoyed n memorable afternoon time.
Wow wow wonderful. We six negotiated the scary Spanish wine list with able assistance, then chose a dish each, mainly specials. Expert staff nominated serving size. Each mouthful was a delight, wonderful fresh flavours. Go.
Food is exciting and interesting. It's mostly hits, but there are some misses. I only wish that the service could be better. I sometimes feel that there's almost a condescending attitude towards me from the staff, and I feel intimated to ask what the specials written in Spanish mean.
Great croquettes. Great atmosphere. Hammerhead sharks are overrated. But yeah oi Maney, Hey mate. Seeing Christine Anu tomorrow. Keen? Let us know.
Great venue. Great food. Great company. Very delicious meal and the service was great! Highly recommend. Oi Age what are you doing this weekend?
Awesome atmosphere! Food was devine and mindblowing Air DRY WAGYU IS Hatted Worthy dish. Holy Cow. Duck Patte is omgf! Guys drop ur pants and try this shit out....Great service.
My first visit here, we came for lunch,
Overall a terrific experience,
Scottish ( I assume) big waiter was great, his service skills and conversation was great.
Food was very good, a good mixture of quality and passion in their food. Admittedly, being a foodie, I still couldnt read half of the menu which was a bit daunting, but the food was simple but yet not boring or plain. Good drinks to follow it up as well.
The only drawback was we though the price was a tad high
Will return anytime!
Thank you guys
My girlfriend took me here for the first time. I had absolutely no idea what to expect. I could only wonder what i was about to get myself into while waiting in the que of the slightly less than comfortable standing space whilst staring, quite confused at the menu (which was in all Spanish).
I couldn't have been more impressed with the waiter that took care of us (young simpletons) after i had explained that we weren't fluent in Español, gave him our budget of $150 and asked him to take care of our meals for the night. He asked if we had any preferences for what we would like to eat and away we went, some of the best food and one of the most awesome nights I've had out in ages.
Came here for drinks early on a Sunday afternoon looking for some sangria and churros. We were lucky enough to get a standing spot by the window overlooking Hosier Lane, a perfect back drop to our sweet treat.
The sangria was great and we ordered a couple more glasses and managed to get a counter seat shortly after.
Great mini experience at Movida, would like to come back to have a complete meal.
Had late lunch! Great food! Loved the pinchos of codorniz. The tortilla was delicious, good beer. Good churros. Great place for tapas!! Recomend it
Good service, good food. We had a perfect spot on the bar, which give us superquick service. It's a little bit expensive, but worth it. De Toro tempranillo is awesome!
Small little tight restaurant. Found myself sitting on what seems to be bar stools for dinner, while not sitting at the bar. Not much privacy between customers as they placed three couples sharing one table. Food abit overpriced for example 4 scallops cost over $28. Food was ok not great. The eggplant chips are a must have!! So nice..
Amazing little tapas restaurant, close to flinders st station. Always packed on the weekends, but delicious tapas. The green beans with bacon was amazing and mussels were delicious. Great little place to hang out with one or two friends or a date! (Not. First date- might be a little too cramped and loud).
We've been here quite a few times and it has consistently been a great place to go. Staff have been extremely helpful and managed to give us an abundance of recommendations even during busy times.
The only downside is the sometimes long waiting periods and lack of interesting non-alcoholic beverages.
My favorite restaurant in Melbourne. Great knowledgeable staff, and the food is always a dead-set knock-out. I've eaten there probably 10 times? Never been disappointed once.
The place doesn't take reservations, so the best time to get there is generally around 7-7:30. At 8:00, you might need to wait up at the cocktail lounge a few doors up (they'll come get you) but now that I know when to get there, we've never really waited more than 15 minutes. They open a bottle up for us as we wait. Once, the chef preparing a meal (it all happens next to you) even gave us the most beautiful tapas plate as we were waiting, on a particularly busy night. What a guy.
The tip? Listen close to the specials. That's the only thing we generally order when we go there. I'm not sure we've even looked at the menu in the last five times.
We were lucky enough to get a seat as a walk-in. Been to this place so many times and thought I'd check it out again to see if has changed. The food has, as it should. The service hasn't, still exemplary. The ambiance hasn't, still vibrant and cosy. Overall, its collective tapas experience is still the closest thing to Barcelona we can have in Melbourne.

Fantastic atmosphere. One of those busy crowded restaurants where you can hear the rumble of a thousand conversations without struggling to be heard.
Those who have to wait for a table are treated to some drinks and bread at a side bar.
Marvellous good every time I've been. No one can resist the croquettes.
Love the dimly light hustle and bustle atmosphere without even mentioning the wonderful tapas.
Great place for late night tapas. It is always crowded and they don't take bookings so expect a bit of a wait however if you have a late dinner you may get lucky and get seats straight away. Although the tapas may not be completely authentic to Spain, the food is still outstanding and is a regular go to place for me. Staff are very switched on and know the menu well. Price is above the average meal but quality overrides this.
Interesting for people watching. Great tapas if a little pricey. Worth it for the experience. Drink sangria in the summer and Spanish sherry in the winter. Avoid after work Friday's or pre theatre times if you don't like queues
Part of the MoVida Restaurant family, Next Door centers round a bustling bar and was a crowded, loud yet convivial eatery. We sat at the bar and enjoyed meeting our local Melbourne neighbors. The menu featured finger-licking good tapas. Daily specials were listed overhead on the chalkboard above the bar. There was also an extensive wine list that complimented the food well. The Bocadillo de Chorizo, Queso Manchego and market fresh Peccadillo Whiting fish were all excellent.
Was craving for dessert with a HK tourist ... it's hard to find a place to have dessert on sat night... Luckily Movida Next Door gave us a great night with delighted desserts...
Really enjoyable food. The waiters/waitresses knew the menu items backwards and recommended well. A pleasant evening and looking forward to coming back
GEM.
as soon as you walk in, you know you stepped into one of melbournes gems, the place has a great vibe and great service food is of good quality and price was above average but worth it. a must visit if you love your tapas.
this is
Good Enough For Me
We came here on the off chance of having a meal before a show. We were very lucky. The staff were super friendly and gave us a table. We ordered our food that came out quickly. We enjoyed every morsal. Unfortunately we had to scoot to get to our show. It would have been great to sit there longer and have time for dessert - Next Time
I prefer it to the 'real' movida. More casual and the food is great. If you can get in there either side of the peak dinner times it isnt too hard to get in either.
Love the atmosphere but the food too salty for my liking but the flavour was there. I'll need to book next time and try Movida. I'll visit this place often for a drink and nibble and I think that is their idea and concept.
Great atmosphere, super yummy food! Highly recommend.
Only lost a point as portions were super small for the price and the pork neck although tender didn't have much flavour.
We ordered a variety of tapas and one of each main, split between 5 adults (as they recommended the mains were designed to share) we found the boys hungry a few hrs later
Great Spanish tapas bar in a picturesque location in Melbourne with amazing street art along the lane right next to Fed Square. I’ve been attending this venue over the past 10 years and service and food have always been consistently good. Although I have to point out that the food used to have a greater variety but this has become more conservative lately. Great bar for a drink and some tapas with friends or a date.
Movida Next Door, the more casual dining venue to the original Movida @MovidaMelb, presents a bustling atmosphere where one can enjoy tapas and a range of larger plates. I started with 4 tapas, a larger plate and then a dessert.
Sangria
Upon the first sip the first thing one can taste is the spices, then fruitiness, and then a lovely strong taste of red wine, this is so tasty, particularly against rich food.
Anchovy - hand filleted Cantabrian artisan anchovy with smoked tomato sorbet on crouton
Once the sorbet is spread across it gives the most delicious pairing with the anchovy, like a burst of freshness from the sea. Wow, fantastic creation.
Miguel - spice saffron chicken escabeche on crouton
A freshness akin to a chicken salad, the chicken has a lovely subtle flavour with a touch of chilli and is very tasty.
Croquette - crispy fried with zucchini & Manchego
Hard to go past these and wow, was this superb. Perfectly golden brown crumb, just the right amount of seasoning, crunchy, delicious rich creamy filling, gooey Manchego, so satisfying.
Bomba - choux pastry filled with duck liver parfait and fresh nectarine
A lovely firm but light choux encases smooth pate, however, the pairing of the nectarine against the rich pate is excellent with the fruit flavour elevating the dish. Really enjoyed this creation particularly as I have a fondness for pastry.
Chocos - Lakes Entrance cuttlefish, marinated & pan fried served with chickpea, mint and tomato salad
Needed something light after the rich pate and this fitted the bill. The cuttlefish has a soft rubbery kind of texture in terms of mouth feel but is tender and well prepared. With a good squeeze of lemon, citrus and seafood are an excellent combination and along with the chickpeas and vinaigrette is tasty.
Churros with drinking chocolate
Hard to go past a classic in a Spanish restaurant. I've eaten a lot of churros but these were light and didn't leave one felling heavy or bloated. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, against a smooth chocolate sauce but, it too, is light and can be drunk without feeling sick as it isn't rich but the chocolate flavour just shines through.
Excellent dining experience, flavoursome dishes, lovely atmosphere, comfortably satisfied.

Amazing and high quality food, each of dishes is authentic and flavorful
Good vibe and reasonable prices (approx. 45 pp for two girls without alcohol)
…definitely would visit again 🥰
