We enjoyed a most delicious 5 course dinner for 8 business associates from overseas. The food was exceptional and the wine list was outstanding. We are from the wine and food industry and were extremely impressed with the extremely professional standard of service. Cannot rate the restaurant high enough. Thank you.

Tried the prawn dumpling for entree, Murray Cod for main and Mango sorbet for dessert.
Entree was so delicious with a touch of spicy from the coconut sauce.
Beautiful place. Staff are friendly and quiet attentive.
3 course meal for $120 for lunch which is good value for business lunch.
Will definitely go back to try other things.

We decided on the a la cart menu and ordered the following dishes:

• Prawn dumplings
• Kingfish
• Pork Belly
• Milk Yard Farm Chicken
• Chinese style Roast duck
• Potatoes on the side
• Dessert tasting platter

The kingfish was our favourite and the Chinese roast duck was almost just as good. Ezard was kind enough to halve our third starter, the pork belly, and place them on separate plates - which is why it may seem tiny in the photo. I personally wouldn’t order the dumplings again, as there wasn’t much to it - just a ‘clean’ stock (maybe tomato based soup?) with prawn dumplings - nothing too exciting. Nonetheless I really enjoyed my evening at Ezard, I would definitely come back.

This was such a beautiful experience and a perfect place to celebrate with your significant other. Every dish was full of flavour and well thought out and the service was fantastic from start to finish. We wanted to try a few dishes so shared 2 starters, 2 mains and the dessert platter, and the kitchen were lovely enough to split each one and serve them individually, it was the little touches that made all the difference! Amazing experience!

Perfect for special occassion, staff are all professional and friendly.

Love the cocktails so refreshing and gorgeous presentation. All the dishes are special in its own way, the wagyu was our favourite, so juicy and tender. I love how the staff introduced the dish to us and pour the sauce/drizzle on top, makes every dish feel like a piece of art.

The only suggestion is we hope they have more dessert options and gets more creative with the dessert. Everything else was perfect. Thanks Ezard for making my birthday night special.

Service - Very friendly & comfortable
Wine - lack for wine option, tried Riesling (traditional taste, gasoline aroma, citrus fruity) and Chardonnay (Over-Oaked)
Food - above average, many Japanese style dishes.
Desert - not very special and the presentation can be more elegant.

Great service and fine dine experience. Each dish was charimatic and delicate. Would have loved more quantity to the dishes but it's about the finer bites that make this experience unique.

EZARD has been serving Teage Ezard’s acclaimed ‘Australian freestyle’ cuisine for seventeen years in a sleek subterranean dining room in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. Guests are invited to indulge in a variety of ways: from a weekday express lunch or pre-theatre dinner, to an eight course tasting menu replete with complementary wines to match. Quality seasonal produce is of the utmost importance; we foster long-standing relationships with our suppliers to ensure access to the very best of Australian ingredients. The menu continually evolves to take advantage of each ingredient at the height of its flavour, colour, appearance and quality.

My wife and I had lunch on a weekday at Ezzard. We had booked but it was unnecessary as the restaurant was not busy. The restaurant has a pleasant low key atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and professional. We chose the 5 course degustation menu with wine pairing. The dishes were delivered at a nice pace. Everything was delicious and was well explained by the staff. The wine pairing was very good and the sommelier responded positively to our request for local wines only. We absolutely enjoyed the whole dining experience which lasted over 2 hours.

Ezard is one of the most popular fine dining restaurants located in Flinders Lane. They only have the three course a la carte menu and the eight course tasting menu on Friday and Saturday. I went for the eight course tasting menu at $185 pp. However, I paid an additional $25 for the wagyu steak. All dishes were pretty good, but they were nothing that special. The flavours were balanced and everything were not overpowering. The mains, between the duck and the wagyu, I liked the duck more. The wagyu wasn’t worth the additional $25. The better dishes were the salmon, pork belly, swordfish, and the dessert. It was overall a pleasant dining experience, but for the high price, and the additional charges for some dishes options, I wouldn’t go back anytime soon.

Overall a very pleasant experience, great lighting, wine and excellent service. The food was not as good as we thought in my opinion, perhaps I enjoy flavoured/saucy dishes, obviously not often served in fine dining restaurants but something like Dinner By Heston and Vue tasted much better.

From start to finish, my husband and I could not fault the ambience, service, food and beverages at Ezard. After reading a few negative reviews, I was a little hesitant and came in with low expectations. Boy, did Ezard deliver! If you’re going to eat here, I highly suggest you go all out with the 8-course tasting menu. It was well worth it- stand out dishes were: dumpling with mirin broth (incredible umami flavour), pork belly and wagyu of course. We ordered an extra marron dish which was devine. It’s also the first time I experienced a tasting menu with no “veggies” woo hoo! That’s a big tick in my book for hubby and I. The attendants were friendly without being too formal which made dining less “stuffy”. All in all a very good night for any foodie!

We enjoyed the 3 course menu recently. To start we had the scallops and the marron. The broth with the scallops was amazing. Then we had the duck with black rice and the chicken. Both were cooked beautifully. Has a side of cos lettuce salad and the mint and dressing were lovely. To finish we shared the dessert platter (we had 5 to taste through). Staff were attentive, knowledgable and charming. We look forward to coming back.

We were staying so close to Ezard and lucky to get a table. Let me start with the great location so central. The decor is modern, comfortable with great music. The staff are just stunning. They know the food they know their wines. Simply amazing. The degustation with paired wines is a multi sensory experience. The matching of flavors and presentation is intelligent, well planned and executed. This would be one of the best degustation journeys I have experienced. The amount of food was perfection. Ezard would be one of the best dining experiences we have had in Melbourne. A big thanks to the whole Ezard team for sharing you amazing skill and joy for excellent food and wine.

I was quite disappointed and expected a little more from a well and highly regarded restaurant. The staff were very nice and well presented accordingly however, what I was very disappointed in was the wait time between each course. I was very hungry and frustrated that we actually ate for around 20 minutes in total but our “dinner” actually took 2.5 hours. During each wait, I would grow tired and agitated as the amount of time eating was minuscule. By the end of the whole meal, I was tired from waiting and grew very sleepy, up until the point where I had lost my appetite. Maybe something to work towards!!!
The food was definitely above average however the portions were quite small. I felt that It was actually the bread that filled me rather than the food. The scallop dumpling was in my perspective, the best dish of the night not including desserts. I was saddened by the fact that there was only 1. The salmon and duck were cooked to perfection, however I felt as though it lack a bit of flavour, something to make it stand out and give it a bang. The end of night finished perfectly with a wonderful dessert platter which I could not fault !
Excellent work however some minor improvements to be made in my eyes and taste buds :)

Ezard has been around since 1999 and is renowned for their top class Modern Australian food with a bit of Asian inspiration mixed with some French technique. Depending on what day you visit, you can order a la cart, opt for the five or eight-course tasting menu or get the fixed price three-course menu. The restaurant is down the stairs in the basement and you can feel the elegance with the white clothed tables and fancy silverware. This is one for the fine-diners.

I went a couple months back. The food is wonderful. Everything is something you wouldn't think go together, but are just full of flavour! The oyster shooter was smooth, zingy, sweet (indescribable) at the same time. Only thing would be the price is a little high, even compared to some fine dining restaurants, but not too bad. Overall, ambience was nice, service was exceptional, food was amazing!

Food/ high quality of ingredients, good temperature, beautiful plating but the flavours were just as I expected like Japanese fusion, which many restaurants are trying at this stage.

Service/ nice, tidy and gentle. Also perfectly clean cutlery provided. But between service there was long gaps for waiting by a waitress. Looks like waitresses are not enough.

Very attentive service and great atmosphere. Offered water and given a menu on arrival. Had the degustation and my partner switched the duck for sher wagyu. Dishes were amazing - thoroughly enjoyed the flavours in each. Bread and oil were complimentary, and the lady was kind to give a refill of bread when I ran out (the oil and dipping spices were addictive). Was not a big fan of the dessert as I felt it was a bit heavy and too sweet for my liking.

Wow. This place exceeded all expectations; service, food and atmosphere could not be faulted. We had the five course degustation, one vegetarian and the other with meat and wine pairing. We also had the tasting dessert platter to end which was to die for and the portions were big. I would eat here every night if I could!

Ezard is a luxury experience from the moment you walk in. All the usual five star dining greetings apply before you are walked to your table and the chair pulled out for you to be seated. We ordered à la carte and the dishes didn’t disappoint. The service was very attentive and the drinks list substantial. A beautiful restaurant for an intimate dinner for two or small groups.

Went to Ezard for our 17-year anniversary. When we entered the restaurant it smelled terrible. They way cafes smell at the end of the day when everything is being cleaned. I guess the good thing is it smells like it's cleaned, but it's not a good smell when you walk into a (fine dining!) restaurant. Maybe a candle or something could fix this easily?

We were offered a glass of bubbles which we took. I am not sure if there is a maximum amount of $$ a glass of bubbles should cost. But these were $30 each, which I think is very steep for a glass of bubbles offered at the start. I guess we learn from it to just look on the menu before saying yes.

We took one vegetarian and one normal degustation, one matched with alcoholic, one with alcohol free drinks. The first alcoholic drink to come up was... the same champagne! I have never had this ever before and I don't think this is a very good start. If you have a standard drink that you offer when people come in, don't include the exact same drink in your wine matching. They were happy to offer another champagne, but we had to pay the difference. Not a great start. Instead they poured a sake, which was actually really nice with the first dish. It's really good that they do have a few other options of drinks in case one doesn't work for the customer.

Some of the vegetarian dishes were basically exactly the same as the meat/fish dishes, except that they left out the meat/fish. To me that is really not done. They made it look like they cater really well to vegetarians by offering the vegetarian option explicitly on their menu, but for me that should be completely unique dishes, not just a rip-off from the meat/fish option, because if it would've been better as a vegetarian option, then the other menu also wouldn't have meat or fish!

The bread with oil and dips was not great. Again, not so great work for vegetarians. They had 3 different dips for the normal menu and for the vegetarian menu they gave the same little bowl with three wells, but two of the three wells had the same dip! Just come up with another dip for veggo's, or give them a bowl with only two wells. But then, all the dips were pretty average. A good olive oil and some salt would've been better.

The non-alcoholic drinks matching was awesome. They've really put effort in creating lots of different unique drinks that go really well with the dishes. Where the wines were more balanced and not so extreme in flavour, these non-alcoholic drinks had a lot of flavour and were quite exciting with the dishes.

There were a lot of nice exciting dishes. The timing was great and the food was generally lovely. We also had enough food at the end of the night.

There are definitely improvements possible, but we loved our dinner at EZARD!

Fine dining at its best, this is a hidden gem in Flinders Lane conveniently located near the famous Hosier Lane. From the moment you descend the stairs past the elegant Ezard sign you are greeted with a dimly lit and formal setting perfect for a romantic dinner. We chose the pre-theatre degustation menu with matching wines and each course was magnificently presented with the stand out dish being the scallop dumplings. The Chinese style duck had a point of difference served with black rice. Matching wines were chosen with perfection with the dessert wine absolutely amazing. All four courses were served within 90 minutes and although we felt a bit rushed trying to finish each glass of wine we managed to get to the theatre in perfect time. Highly recommended for a special night out in the heart of our beautiful city.

Great place for special occasions and the standards have remained high for decades.
Opted for the pre-tennis menu (same as pre-theatre) which was an economical way to try their new menu at $80pp for 4 dishes.
As a vego, I was able to pick 3 savoury dishes and a dessert.
For entree, the kifler potatoes with pickled daikon was really light and comforting with cauliflowers and some green creamy sauce.
For mains, the tempura tofu in mirin broth was really tasty that I ate it without taking a photo. The other more interesting main was the Risoni “risotto” with enoki mushrooms, broccolini, creme fraiche and mushroom floss. This was a standout dish. It was actually a special pasta and the flavours blended in perfectly.
For dessert, there was one choice which was the golden chocolate sphere. It was round, solid with choc mousse inside and a challenge to break open. The ice cream had dark rum jelly and it was quite powerful. The chocolate was too sweet for me even though it was dark choc.
Finally the petit four had additional choc truffles, choc hazelnut squares and caramel bites. They were also too sweet but looked impressive!!
Service was really slow considering it was an express dinner, took more than 2hrs!!
Service was also not consistent, some servers were more friendlier than others but at times there was no one around...

Melbourne is known for it's hustling food scene and endless options of fine food. However, Ezard uniquely stands out amongst the rest as one of the few restaurants to offer a full degustation menu of the finest quality to those with vegan/vegetarian dietary requirements.

Given that my husband is vegan, the choice to book a table at Ezard for his birthday was an easy decision.

Each dish at Ezard was a beautiful artistic display that tasted equally outstanding in our mouths. Bursts of flavours of multiple objects on each plate paired perfectly with our recommended wines. The aromas of every dish reached us before the plates were visible. Flavours balance perfectly with textures of all sorts, some would crunch, some would dissolve and overs would bust the moment they touched your palette.

The room was intimidate yet minimal with modern furnishings and a limited deep scale colour. The table setting consisted of nothing more than essential accessories and a dimmed small light. Our vibrant dishes were the real focus.

Ezard is a must visit for any fine dining enthusiast in Melbourne.

This was the second time I had come to Ezard, the first being my first ever degustation several years ago, after which it had remained in my top meal experiences. We had been wanting to return for a while and second time around it did not disappoint, with the dishes all as exceptional as I had remembered. The sauces and broths in particular were a standout memory from the previous visit and lived up to the expectations again. We had the tasting menu with a couple of bottles of wine to share between the 4 of us, assisted in our selection by the sommelier who was super helpful and surprisingly down to earth. At the start of the meal I had ordered the optional extra wagyu beef dish instead of the duck that the other 3 chose, but when that course came around they had accidentally provided the opposite (1 duck and 3 wagyu) - though when we told them they let us have the first meals and then provided the correct dishes afterward so we ended up each getting both courses for no added cost- what fantastic service! A thoroughly enjoyable meal and overall dining experience, and great value with the Entertainment Book discount. Other recommendation would be to make sure you book early and give yourself the entire evening for the experience as it takes about 3 hours to get through all the courses.

Ezards is one of those once in a blue moon places where you need to save pocket money and pawn your dog to come to at least once. I was fortunate in that someone knew what I wanted for Christmas so earlier on I booked in for an 8 course degustation with matching wines for myself and by the glass purchases for Kelisi. Right from the get go the service was efficient, friendly and professional and sommelier knew his stuff. The food came out at a well timed pace. You will appreciate the quality of food and wine here and after 8 courses with matching wine I was a little bit jolly. Kelisi had alternative dishes for at least a couple of the courses as she doesn't eat duck or red meat. These alternatives were well thought out and a quality items in themselves. The dessert plate selection was amazing and one of many highlights. Kelisi and I can't agree as to whether this is our favourite degustation restaurant to date. She rates it as hers while I rate the absolute food adventure of Estelles in Northcote as my all time favourite. Service and standard of cuisine was on par at both. If you like the degustation concept you probably have already been here but if not I suggest you start saving and get booking.

2 hour booking times can be quite tight for the 8 courses so get there on time. You will be reminded in a friendly manner when you arrive of your table leasing arrangements.

As a fine dining restaurant, we always expect the best customer service, and we certainly got that!
We ate 3 courses, finding everything to be good. I found my main course (chicken) to be very bland though, but we could both agree that the rest was good food, however just not as we expected. Looking at reviews, we had high expectations of this place, although the experience was very amazing. Me and tahlia could both agree that the classic bread and butter, which wasn't classically done, was amazing! Best one yet. We also LOVED the pallet cleansers, but it is quite disappointing that those were our favourites.

The and taste and experience was really good. The only thing I will have to say is it was a long meal even though we only had 3 courses.

We arrived and were met with fantastic hospitality of coats being taken care of and almost no wait to the table.

Wine list was extensive, ranging in old and new world wines and split by type. The prices range from 80+ to 500+ for a good bottle of red. White wine choice is extensive as well.

There were two choices, the degustation or the set 3 course meal. We decided on the 3 course (luckily) and there were about 5 choices each of entree and main to choose from.

The bread served was awesome and the dipping accompaniments are very interesting, especially the rosemary infused olive oil, beautiful. We were also provided with an appetiser that truly makes one ready for food.

Between us we tried 4 of the entrees and 3 of the mains (there were duplicates). My entree was cured sword fish and no doubt one of the best I'd tasted. The presentation was also very impressive.

I ordered the burramundi as my main, and it was delicious. Within the main choices, the wagyu has probably the lowest value to price ratio due to the serving portion. The meat itself is of high quality but portion is too small.

The yuzu sorbet pre dessert was so beautiful it's not an item to pass off.

Dessert is another joy if the meal. I had the honey crunch ice cream and it was beautiful. The condiments provided beautiful presentation and mixed well with the ice cream.

If you are truly into dessert, the dessert platter (for 2) is the way to go.

Be prepared for a long and chatty meal, even for 3 course. Our booking was at 7 and we are reasonably good paced eaters, the meal finished at about 10pm. If there's anything I don't quite like, it's probably the wait in between courses.

This place has been around for ever but still maintains an excellent standard and freshness to the room. I had a great lunch last week, scallop dumplings were delicate, beautifully presented, crispy roast duck was the best crispy duck you could ask for. Great wine list, Sorrenberg Gamay is always a winner for a quick business lunch. Faultless service as always excellent and professional. I love the dining room, great place to have private meetings but still feel part of the atmosphere

It was the best quality we've ever had. The risoto starter was the best part. Wagyu and duck was so nice which melted in the mouth. We've ended it with Ezard dessert plate that was so yum

I would highly recommend EZARD if you're looking to indulge yourself or that special someone. Recently my husband surprised me for our anniversary and it was definitely memorable. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly wait staff, who accommodated our dietary requirements immediately. To keep things simple we ordered the eight-course vegetarian tasting menu and much to our delight it didn't disappoint!

The standouts for me were the 'Salad of fermented cucumber, smoked ricotta, burdock root, toasted black sesame, dill' and 'Tempura tofu, soy mirin broth, chilli sambal, black bean'. And for you cocktail lovers, the 'Elderflower Royale; St. Germaine, creme de violette, sparkling wine' was the winner on the night.

I went to Ezard a number of years ago and to be honest it didn't blow me away. I wanted to give it another try because I thought I must be missing something, and boy am I glad I did! The food really is exquisite. Anywhere I can get seafood ravioli rates highly with me, and when it is as impeccable as this one it is a winner. Your wallet may take a beating but it is worth it 😋

I ordered the winter long lunch, an eight course meal. Fabulous service and creative presentation, however the ingredients used did not really match its price. Nothing particular fancy or unique compare to other fine dining restaurants. Nevertheless the dishes weren't bad they were still tasty only they were quite ordinary.

We had booked a month in advance to have dinner here, while the experience was a positive one, I was not wowed.
We had the three course meal for $110 per person. Starting with entrees, I had the scallop dumplings and my partner had the pork belly. The dumplings were soft and fresh plus a bit spicy due to the chill oil. I usually have food mild so this was good for me. The skin on the pork belly had a good crunch to it, great flavours.
For mains I had the waygu beef (+$25), my partner had the duck. The beef was my favourite for the night, great flavours and super tender.
As for the dessert tasting plater, this really fell below my expectations - quite average.
Ambience wise, I personally didn't like the dim lighting. The interior design was very simple - white walls and a lamp on each table. Table staff were professional, polite and well presented.

My friend took me here for my birthday dinner on a Friday night, we booked in advance and it was a full restaurant when we came. We decided to do the 3 courses for $110 each rather than the 8 course degustation. I chose the cured swordfish starter and Chinese style duck main, my friend had the steamed scallop dumplings and wagyu beef main, for dessert we had the dessert tasting plate to share. We also ordered the Japanese oyster shooters, blue chipper potatoes and wok seared asian greens.

First of all the Japanese oyster shooter was AMAZING. So good that we ordered another each after we finished the first one. I thought it had a really strong wasabi flavour to it, it hit you right away. I wouldn't recommend getting this if you don't like wasabi. I love eating bread with butter so having the butter with the 3 different dipping condiments was really different and interesting but very nice. The cured swordfish was beautifully presented and I've never had slices so thinly sliced. It was so good with the other textures and flavours. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy my main too much but I tried the wagyu and it was so soft and tasty. I also really loved the miso, wasabi and yuzu flavour from the potatoes. For desserts my favourite one would be the honeycrunch ice cream. It was nice trying small versions of the desserts but I found them pretty average.

Overall the service was good but at times hard to get their attention. It was quite loud inside from every one's chatter. I would definitely come back here though, I think the 3 courses for $110 is an amazing value.

Been waiting a long time to this place so was quite excited I was taken here for my birthday :)
Quiet and intimate venue which I liked.
The oyster shooters were quite good and different.
We ordered the scallop dumplings that were delicious however the pork belly wasn't bad but for the amount you pay you expected more.
The salmon was apparently pretty average however the duck was phenomenal!
We couldn't get enough of the bread and the the different salts presented to us 😋
Cocktails were quite good too.
If you want to try the dessert I would recommend the honeycomb crunch ice cream and the sphere 😉

Our Foodie Finds

With the Head Chef Jarrod Di Blasi recently guest-starring in and winning the immunity challenge on season 9 of MasterChef Australia and brother company Gingerboy, we made this the second stop in our dining experience on the wifey's birthday. Tucked away on Flinders Lane (and we almost missed it), EZARD brings a touch of class and elegance to dining. A bold back-lit sign of the restaurant boldly confronts you at the bottom of the small flight of stairs which creates an expectation of 1st class - and we weren't let down. Street parking is a little difficult to find as all inner city parking spots during business hours are 1hr, let alone finding one on Flinders Lane so we recommend you plan ahead and pre-book your parking at the local Wilson parking a few meters down the road.

Arriving around 1.00pm, there wasn't too many people inside, in fact we would say there were about 10 people on the dining floor served by 3 waiters. The dining floor is well spaced out with the lighting set just right to set the mood. A popular dining location for executives to visit - overhearing all the corporate talk at other tables getting louder and louder as each glass is drunk. Definitely do not miss the corporate chat!

Noticing a little distress in the waitress/waiters demeanour, they seemed a bit frazzled and disjointed in how they operated which then translated to service decreasing a little. It was starting to become obvious that the bar was being serviced by them, as at any given time, one of them would be alternating between servicing the dining floor and preparing drinks. Explained why it took a little long to get our drinks out and then subsequently, get our order taken. Other than this initial hick-up, the food came out promptly and the food was delicious. Having looked up the menu before hand, we took advantage of the Express Menu for $65pp which served up 3 courses with a wine (incl) and is served between 12:00 - 2:30. In the Express Menu you get the Swordfish cured in aged mirin, cultured cream, white soy, pink peppercorn, puffed rice, Steamed scallop dumplings, soy mirin broth, fragrant Sichuan chilli oil, three seaweeds and finally the Twice cooked pork belly, pickled plum, balsamic glaze, five spiced salt, cool mint. All perfectly as delicious as the next however, out favourite was definitely the Swordfish! A glass of 2013 Azelia 'Langhe' Nebbiolo $23.0 didn't go down too badly either. As the Express Menu comes with a glass of wine, we tried a white this time, 2013 Chestnut Hill 'Liberty' Chardonnay, Gippsland, Victoria which was actually quite nice (not being white drinkers).

Other than what we would assume was an off day at such a highly awarded restaurant, it was a delightful experience and wouldn't mind popping back in for another meal again soon. Till then, this is Our Foodie Find.

Came here the night before our wedding (huge mistake because we basically rolled out of there at 1am). We ate the degustation, every course was phenomenal except for the first which was a wasabi soup. Staff were very friendly and the decor was stunning. Very intimate setting which I would recommend to anyone visiting Melbourne or looking for somewhere to have a great dinner.

Ezard is a two hat Asian fusion fine dining restaurant located in a sleek basement space under the Adelphi Hotel.  We came here on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. I’ve been here once before several years ago for a work dinner so was keen to come back and remind my tastebuds of the food! Read on for our review of this place and their amazing dessert platter!

DO: The pork belly, steak, duck and amazing chips.

DON'T: Know what to order? The tasting menu with matching wines is awesome too if you had a bit more time than me.

TIP: Bookings are obviously a must. If you can't splurge, go to Teague's Gingerboy restaurant or Gingergirl if you're in Sydney.

A group of 7 of us recently dined at Ezard to celebrate 2 birthdays. After wanting to visit this restaurant for months, we were very excited to finally be eating there.
My partner and I were the first to arrive and we were greeted by our waitress for the night who was very lovely to begin with. Once all of the friends arrived, the menu was explained to us. Given that it was a Friday night we were required to order the 3 course $110 menu.
The entrees and mains were impeccable and as per our expectations. I would highly recommend the Wagyu as a main even though it is an extra $25. The 2 amuse bouches that we received were very unique flavour combinations but absolutely delicious. The amuse bouche that was served before dessert (white chocolate artichoke mousse) was very refreshing and I could not help but want more. The desserts although quite tasty did lack the "wow" factor that the other dishes had. Personally the most delicious dessert was the honeycomb ice-cream with gingerbread despite being the most simple. I honestly would have preferred a large serve of the amuse bouche as the dessert.
The service at the restaurant was very underwhelming and quite hit and miss. This was the most disappointing part given the reputation of the restaurant.
When one of my friends notified the waitress that she would not be drinking (implying that she would need the glass), the waitress turned around and defensively told her that the waiter will ask if she wants wine and she should just say "no". Unfortunately this came across to be very rude. We thought it may have been a slip of her composure however, several minutes later while at the other end of the table a repeat scenario occurred.
In regards to the birthday situation, I had called the day before and left a note that we would be celebrating 2 birthdays and if they could do anything. On the phone they had notified me that the waitress will be on top of it and that they will write a birthday message on the desserts.
Up until ordering dessert, there had been no mention of anyone's birthday by the waitress. In my attempt to subtly ask the waitress if she could ensure that a message was placed on the desserts she chose to respond rudely once again.
Obviously the service issue is dependent on the waitress/waiter of the night but it did dampen our experience.
I also felt that being forced to order the $110 3 course meal on a Friday/Saturday night was a little bit steep. The food was amazing but still not worth the $110.
I feel that for the price paid ($150 once alcohol was included - 4 people drinking), there are restaurants of similar quality for much lower prices.
Overall a lovely meal but an average experience.

Nice atmosphere. Really good for romantic dates with the couches down the end. The food and staff are amazing. We even got a small pot of special salt to take home. The 7 course tasting meal was just the right amount of food and both the duck and the steak options were extraordinary.

5 stars for the price vs performance. food was great with a fusion toward Asian flavors. utensils should be upgraded and speed of service slowed down a notch. 1/5 bottle of our wine was left unserved as we were rushed into deserts.

I had a lovely experience dining here. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, and the overall experience is very high-end. I had the 5-course vegan tasting menu ($95) which I highly recommend. It’s also less expensive than the meat option which is a bonus. All of the dishes were delicious & presently beautifully, with interesting flavours and textures(the lighting is very dim so pictures don’t do it justice). These were the dishes: 1. Black radish, fermented red chilli, avocado, qukes, puffed rice, yuzu 1.5. Bread with oil & nori for dipping 2. Heritage tomatoes, black plum, toasted rye, hijiki, cabernet vinegar, shiso 3. Tempura tofu, aged hon mirin dressing, chilli sambal, sweetcorn, Chinese broccoli 4. House made rice noodle, chick pea miso, shiitake mushroom xo, pickled turnip (really nice) 4.5. Pre-dessert cleanser - pomegranate sorbet (I think) 5. Ruby peach sorbet, pina colada, pink peppercorn, raspberry, native plum The highlight for me was actually the dessert & the pre-dessert palette cleanser. House-made rice noodle dish was also a winner. My suggestion: Have a list of vegan-friendly alcoholic drinks to accompany the vegan menu. There are some non-alcoholic drinks but it would have been nice to have other options.

We had a nice degustation dinner at Ezard for our anniversary. Loved everything about this small cosy restaurant. I tried the vegetarian option while my husband tried the non-Veg option. The veg options were really good. The dessert tasting plate were top notch ..yumm!!! And the flavoured butter and bread served in between....wooohooo goodness gracious :)

We came here for my wife's birthday and it was amazing. The team here at Ezard have held their two hats for 20 consecutive years and they have demonstrated that it has been no accident. The restaurant itself isn't large which when coupled with their popularity makes it apparently why it was a little hard to get a booking. The ambience itself was low light and moody, perfect for a long romantic dinner and the staff, while a little flustered and rushed at first (they forgot to give us bread and our water glasses stayed empty for quite sometime. Staff were also a bit rushed, giving us a very abridged spiel about what's on the plate and quickly disappearing) they kicked into gear as the full restaurant began to wind down. The food itself was excellent, it became very apparent to us that the Ezard philosophy is to balance bold flavours (the head chef Jarrod explained he always works with sweet, sour, spicy, salty) which explains why most of the dishes had a bit of a kick at the end. Everything was beautifully presented and when paired with the expertly crafted non-alcoholic beverage pairing (developed by their world class bar staff) everything fell perfectly into place. We left extremely satisfied and full. We would definitely come back and recommend this place to anyone in Melbourne who enjoy fine food.

Top level 8 course degustation. Many places will charge you more for less. Added the wine pairing as well. A couple of misses, but most complimented the dish perfectly. The wagyu beef was the best steak I ever had. Service was top notch.

It’s been years since we’ve eaten here but the food and service is as good as we remember it to be. The degustation while pricey is actually very good value when compared with other degustation offerings in Melbourne & surrounds given the variety of food and flavours on offer.
