Review Bacash Restaurant - Melbourne

Aude Dorison
Service was fantastic and food was divine! Fish was so tender and tasty, cooked to the perfection. We had a great time at Bacash for our anniversary and would highly recommend.

I was lucky enough to dine here upstairs in a private room and ordered off a three course set menu. The service was friendly and prompt. Wine and mineral water glasses were topped up regularly. The food was superb with the highlight, for me, being the raspberry souffle. If you can get your hands on that then do so! Best to make a reservation even if it is during the week. I look forward to coming back to eat through the rest of the menu. Thanks to all!

Loved eating at Bacash today. Friendly service. Amazing and thoughtful wine list that doesn't charge like a wounded bull. They care deeply about the overall dining experience and one of the owners was wonderful to speak to. Oh, the food is absolutely delicious too. We sampled almost all the starters and couldn't fault a dish. I've been a few times over the years but am excited to make this more a far more regular occurrence. Love!

One of South Yarra’s classy restaurants that serves classic seafood specialties such as filet mignon and pan fried fish. You can’t possibly go wrong with their wine selection and their staff are very respectful and warm. We brought our client here and had a great time as the atmosphere was warm and it wasn’t too loud. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be back again!

An exceptionally good night. Magnificent oysters. Recommend the Lebanese style snapper and dessert souffle. Great ambience, service and wine list. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it. One of the best.

Good atmosphere here. The restaurant was besides a park, so it was green while looking outside tje windows. Much seats on the ground floor, which was full in the evening. We had a meeting on the first floor, and the meeting room is really nice and quiet. The food and wine here were quite good. The service was nice as well. I enjoyed the appetizer and dessert. My steak was nice but slightly over-cooked. I ordered medium-rare, but it was medium on table.

I loved the experience we had there last night .Absolutely elegant culinary perfection. The starters were reall chef-d'oeuvres so beautiful and absolutely delicious. My grilled quail brest, confit leg, beurre bosc pear on black olive paste was out of this world. The Lebanese style Snapper with Sumac Braised Silverbeet, caramelized onion, coriander salad, pine nuts, currant and tahini was simply delicious. The medium/rare grilled Cape Grim beef eye fillet with red wine jus, spinach&mushroom short crust pie was to die for. The buttermilk pannacotta with honey&moscatel, fresh black figs, blackberries and bee pollen culminated an a.azinv culinary estravaganza and left a memorable treat for all our senses. I can not wait to come back again.

Great evening with amazing food and incredible service. The food was delicious and very delicate. We had scallops on a sweet corn puree bed with charred onion and chorizo. The main was Grilled Cape Grim Eye fillet steak with spinach and mushroom pie cooked to perfection. The dessert did not disappoint ..milk chocolate mousse with peanut butter crunch, chocolate crumb with salted caramel and peanut butter ice cream.Highly recommend this place.Thank you.

Bacash is a unique, fish-oriented restaurant offering the freshest fish, oysters and food around town. <br/><br/>Starting off with some of the most gorgeous oysters we have had in our lives, each bite sends you memories as to the oysters final moments before being fished out of the sea- outstanding. The other meals from the scallops to the sushi rolls were also well made, insanely fresh and offering a taste unlike others. For the mains I smashed an ocean trout which was again, one of the best fish dishes I have tried in my time.<br/><br/>A remarkable experience at Bacash and one I would recommend for all lovers of seafood. Whilst price can be in the upper range, the sheer experience you get from the quality of food is well worth it.<br/><br/>Food: 5/5<br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Ambience: 5/5<br/>Value: 4.5/5<br/><br/>Overall: 5/5

It is many years since I did Bacash. My expectations were high as the first experience was so good. Alas, the experience this time was ordinary, particularly by the waiting staff. <br/><br/>The food promised much (oysters Mornay, then rock Flathead) but failed to impress. I thought the menu was very limiting but that could have been the mood set by an indifferent, cool waiter. <br/><br/>The waiters mood didn’t show any improvement when he presented us with an extraordinarily high bill, on which we tipped around 7%. In fairness to the restaurant the food prices were about normal for a high end place as was the fare. But the liquor prices were surprising. <br/><br/>I guess my rating will be viewed by some as harsh but that’s how I still feel 4 weeks down the track. <br/><br/>Geoff Birtles

Expensive main that was entree size!!!!! Nothing I would return to eat again. We actually left feeling ripped off. Entree was nothing with nothing and did not look well presented at all, we had the Atlantic Salmon and Oysters which were not cold. Mains were the marinara which was nice but $42 for a small amount of seafood in a huge amount of pasta? The ocean trout was the let down, especially the size of the trout, it was tiny. However, the service and ambiance of this restaurant was a 10/10. The staff were very accommodating and our waitress was an absolute gem.

The friendly and efficient service started when I called to book and was delivered by every person that we interacted with that evening. There's no doubt in my mind why they are known for their seafood. I had the scallops for entree and then the flounder special which was cooked perfectly. Wine list is extensive. Great interior design. Wait staff continually checked I was ok with the air conditioning temp. I'll be back again. This place ticks all the boxes. I had a lovely evening.

Hands down 10/10 dining experience, the food was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed the waiter and the cocktails were on point. Some of the best seafood we’ve had in a while. Highly recommend!

Upscale restaurant deserving of the hype.<br/><br/>It is expensive but you get your money's worth.<br/><br/>There were three of us and we had the Nori Rolls, Seared Scallops and Oysters for starters, the John Dory, Ocean Trout and the Fish of the Day as mains, plus 2 serves of the Chocolate Mousse, cost overall was $ 285/- overall  pretty good.<br/><br/>Satisfying evening for all of us.

3.5⭐️ Fish coked simply and paired with classic flavours. Nothing new and nothing that excited me. It was a lovely dinner (nothing to fault) but I probably won’t be rushing back.

DO: The steak and or ocean trout. <br/><br/>DON'T: Forget dessert, a merringue and marscapone cream topped with berries. <br/><br/>TIP: Sit upstairs and face the Tan.

Great ! I came here with two business colleagues and that was just lovely. My normal go to place for good fish is FranceSoir but this is a notch above the rest. It is a lovely establishment and Fiona Bacash was on the floor and friendly and gave us a great wine selection (white wine). I had the whole snapper and it was well done just the way I like it with chips and salad on the table for everybody. We had a sashimi salmon entree which was delicious. <br/><br/>A lovely restaurant and I am going back on Thursday.<br/><br/>Alex Sobolevsky was present at a lovely dinner last night. The staff are very attentive and the sashimi was top notch. The whole flounder was excellent, salads were delicious and chips were great. My wife ate the Dory and friends had oysters and seafood marinara ! To top it off it was great service except I asked the waiter to decant my wine and she refused and also they wouldn’t give me gluten free bread but a week earlier they did. Otherwise the food 10/10 the fish was fresh and tasty wine was smooth and milk and the owner Michael was in his finest form. Well done on a great establishment that maintains excellence and tries it hardest. Please come and try !

Our son's 27th birthday on a Friday was a night of two halves. <br/><br/>The first half was a rush, disorganisation and disinterest.<br/><br/>The second half was ambient, relaxed and friendly.<br/><br/>The food was great, the wine selection extensive and the booth a cosy family corner.<br/><br/>I'm not sure where to go with my assessment but we weren't at the cheap end of town. So I've got to say that it could have been a better experience.

Local restaurant for pasta or grilled fish. Entrees are always lovely (zucchini flowers in particular), as are the mains usually, especially the grilled flounder with all the condiments. Desserts are also decent. Reason for the low rating is service. This is only my personal opinion but I find being Asian I receive much less attention or recognition than their regular local Caucasian customers. I would say I visit monthly as I also live locally but have never been recognised with a "welcome back" back greeting. One particular bad experience in service was when the waitress was pouring a bottle of wine into glasses at my table. Midway through pouring the wine she walked off suddenly to greet a regular by name, then came back to finish pouring the wine. I was quite disappointed on that occasion although a nice young male waiter was excellent to us throughout the night. I do hope the service improves as I do like this place.
Mike
Superb food but I wouldn't rush back <br/><br/>As an older couple with no kids at home we tend to eat out most nights. <br/><br/>My kingfish carpaccio was excellent and the king george whiting equally as good. Our dessert, sticky date soufflé was superb. <br/><br/>Unfortunately we were seated at the only occupied table in the rear of the restaurant so it felt a bit like the isolation ward and had service to match. It felt like we were an afterthought with wine and water glasses getting sporadic attention although the wait staff were very pleasant.<br/><br/>Whilst I thought it was reasonable value for what we ate and drank ($180 per person) the run of the mill service and the table location made it an ordinary experience.

Great cuisine, specialising in seafood, the menu is thoughtfully planned, the food beautifully presented tantalising to the senses and the wine list is to be envied. Coupled with attentive service and sophisticated atmosphere Bacash has a lot to recommend it ....definitely an experience to savour.

Bacash is one of my favourite Melbourne restaurants. On my last visit I had the most superb, perfectly cooked, juicy, tender whiting with some delicious salads and yummy frites paired with an excellent champagne recommended by the owner (I'm terrible at remembering wines because I don't drink a lot, but this was a special occasion). My vegan friend was well catered for and very happy. The ice cream and sorbet we had for desert was sublime. If you love someone and want to take them somewhere special go to Bacash for a memorable night out or go because you deserve it and life is short! Service was perfect too. Looking forward to my next visit.
Laura
Have been here many times and always leave completely satisfied.<br/><br/>The food and service is what you'd expect from a restaurant like Bacash.<br/><br/>Seafood is fabulous, everything from the Prawn and Nori rolls to the zucchini flowers is delicious.<br/><br/>I tend to go for the Fish of the day and it is yet to disappoint. <br/><br/>One of the few places I always order dessert!

Tasty food, impeccable service, attentive and super warm staff and a cosy atmosphere - all the ingredients that went into making a Sunday night visit to Bacash a delightful one. For mains we had the Tasmanian Atlantic Salmon with cauliflower cream, parsley sauce and mussels, prawns, scallops & calamari; the Spaghetti Marinara and the Grilled Cape Grim Scotch Fillet (medium rare) served with a lovely fluffy potato purée, wild mushrooms and roasted shallots. I was carnivorous and had the steak but will be back next time for the Spaghetti Marinara (deliciously al dente and aromatically garlicky in EVOO). Very generous portions especially the Spaghetti Marinara! <br/><br/>Although Bacash is listed as Closed on Sundays according to Zomato, ignore it as Bacash is very much opened for business on Sundays and there's ample parking on Domain Road at night after 6pm (no restrictions).

Nice venue but parking is hard.<br/><br/>Entree was gravlox salmon ... very nice <br/>Mains were fish but I had beef and mash.<br/>I enjoyed the meat and happy with presentation.<br/>Waiters were friends and our waitress very obliging and helpful.<br/>Only negative is a table next to window asked to have it opened only to then always go outside to smoke thus allowing the putrid smoke to come into the restaurant. <br/>Non smoke means no smoke..<br/>

Bacash is a long standing AGFG 1 hatted restaurant, focuses on fresh seafood and located along the beautiful Domain road with a beautiful park view. Every single dish was carefully crafted by chef Michael Bacash and his team - full of flavours and well balanced. Absolutely enjoyed their grilled scallop, quail breast, side mushroom and their house made bread and butter. Greeted by chef Bacash's wife Fiona as I entered the busy restaurant, and service was flawless! Will surely be back, though I had difficulty finding a parking spot.. Will consider taking a tram down instead. <br/>Note: Owner may consider investing in fine dining style cutlery to match its beautiful dishes..like Igni or Vue De Monde.
Filet De Boeuf
Fantastic seafood in a great location. The zucchini flowers were an excellent entree, and the main course salmon was great. Whilst well-known for its high quality seafood offerings, I was also particularly impressed with the scotch fillet (pictured) at Bacash.
Lucy Jang
great atmosphere and professional service. quality of food was great but the portion size was too generous.i did not get any space to try dessert. if it was mentioned by staff,i would have ordered accordingly. food was great, but i didn't think any of dish was outstanding.
Stella Rusli
As always, which is why we love going to Bacash, consistently great food, detailed service and amazing wine selection.<br/><br/>We had the quail and garfish nori for entree and fish of the day (flat head) and duck for main. The fish were really fresh and sweet, refined and concise presentation. Delicious flavour combos, every single element was well done and beautifully presented.<br/><br/>Were so stuffed by the end of our meals, very very happy diners.<br/>

Service and food was good although I felt a little underwhelmed after all the hype of it being the best seafood. It was fresh and tasty however I have had better. Still good however I felt that dessert/cheese platter was the best part of my 3 course dinner. I do like the option of BYO on a Friday night if you get 3 courses.

The service here was amazing, our waitress was friendly and really helped us with the menu, and the manager was really nice when they had some trouble with our card. The food on the other hand wasn't anything spectacular, especially at those prices. Our favorite dish was the fried sardines, but I'm not so sure if the babaghanoush really went well with it. My salmon wasn't crispy enough and lacked salt and real punch in terms of flavor. The fish pie was ok, but a few pieces were so soft we were a touch worried about how cooked they were.

Arguably one of Melbourne ' s best and most consistent restaurants.<br/>We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Bacash recently and they are as good as they've been for many years
Hurley.andrew84
Amazing food, I had the snapper and sashimi tuna. Wine was also amazing, I can't remember the Pinot I had but it was good. Top notch service, will be back for sure!
Scrapi
Seafood at its best, these guys know their cooking , the fish was perfect, the pasta marinara was the best i've ever had. 10/10 It is for people that what great food & a special night out.

Always been an advocate for this place over many years. Went here for dinner with n Saturday night, food was ok (not more) but felt we were rushed. First time I was seated upstairs. This was a function room previously but is now part of the restaurant. <br/><br/>Not the atmosphere I wanted so if I go back, I will definitely request to be seated downstairs. <br/><br/>Not as happy as prior visits. <br/>
Kiwi Living In The Big Smoke
Our service was amazing. The wine we had was just too class. The seafood was so fresh. Great for a date night. Quiet and nice vibe. Recommend.
Barney
The food was good but not great unfortunately. The service was outstanding and the staff were all very good but  something was just a bit NQR. Seems like the place was full of try hard posh types which is fine but they were all just sooo rude and it just detracted from the ambiance. Food itself was OK but the limited selection meant we really had to stick with the seafood options which were all OK but not great given that this is their specialty.  Perhaps this is more a place for the over 60s crowd.

The quintessential SY dining experience set opposite the Botanical Gardens have a drink in the bar next door at the Bontanical and then slide in next door to Bacash for a high quality mod Australian dining experience. Oysters are super fresh, quality bread and luxurious surroundings make this restaurant a destination venue and a local haunt. The crab entree is absolutely exceptional, the fish selection is especially impressive the marinara less so. Highly recommend with fantastic floor staff. The wine list is also very strong with some excellent white varieties.

Recently went there for a 70th birthday. The food was outstanding, the seafood was so great and the Pannacota was to die for. The decor is simple but smart. I am going back there really soon for a romantic dinner. The service was without fault.
Wei-Chi Lee
The seafood here is definitely worth a visit. The restaurant has a nice cosy ambience and the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and charismatic. The salmon confit was cooked perfectly!
Fussy Eater
I have been there twice for spagetti marinara. <br/>I am not a big fan of spagetti but its so different and tasty. Lygon st where i normally go for an Italian wasnt satisfied me as much as here. Cooked oyster as an entrée is nice and fresh too. Only thing i wasnt happy was the waiting time for the mains. The delivery of food to our table was so slow so if you're in rush and hungry i dont recommend this restaurant . Good occasion for group function i guess...lots of time for chitchat!!!
Pprio
Wonderful food and service impeccable. Wonderful way to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. They wanted seafood and were most pleased given mum considers herself quite a cook and knows what fresh delicate flavours are required to prepare fish dishes. <br/><br/>Also to mention is the late booking for six which they accommodated <br/><br/>I have never written a review before, had to create an account, but worth it

It’s unfortunate to say that the service and the atmosphere in this restaurant were a let down on the night. It felt cold where we were seated. Further into the restaurant it looked a little more cosy, but I can only comment on my experience. I thought the service was not very attentive, and our waitress was not the friendliest of people. The food however was very tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed my dish, and thought the balance of the mediterranean flavours was perfect -sweet, nutty and fresh. PG enjoyed his duck, and thought it was cooked perfectly. A good selection of wines as well. Unfortunately I didn’t feel our overall experience was enough to bring me back, especially since it is on the pricey end of the scale, and didn’t feel the atmosphere and service justified our bill at the end of the night.<br/>
One Fat Cow
Bacash is a top seafood restaurant and probably one of the best in Melbourne with prices reflecting that. It's cosy, without being too noisy, service is excellent and the waiters are extremely knowledgeable and professional.<br/>

DISAPPOINTED !!!. Service was appalling, slow and meals so small !!! - wouldn't rush back - so disappointed !!!!!!

One of the best seafood restaurants in Melbourne. Inventive menu, food cooked perfectly, service efficient and friendly and great location just opposite Botanical Gardens with an intimate, yet relaxed vibe. Highly recommend

Beautiful dinner. Dinner was delicious and the service was excellent. We will be back!

Expected more. Went here for dinner for two. We ordered fish off the menu and were incorrectly served the fish and chips meal off the specials board. We told the waitress it was not what we ordered and she said 'Oh so you don't like your meal?' I said 'Its fine but this is not what we ordered'. She did not offer to fix her mistake.<br/>We reluctantly ate our specials 'fish and chips' on a birthday dinner that was not what we ordered not had in mind.<br/>Mistakes can happen but a real dampener on that poor service.<br/>Based on that alone, will never return
Coffeegirl
Cosy vibe, fantastic food. We ate on a busy Saturday night, our waitress was just delightful, food was superb. Highlights were the mussels served in the most delicious broth, and our shared chocolate mousse dessert - the hit of salted caramel was to die for, all the fish was perfectly cooked. Ambiance great, wine list good but quite expensive.<br/><br/><br/>-----14 Sep, 2014-----<br/><br/>Chocolate Mousse. Gorgeous salted caramel hit at the bottom
The Food Doctor
Perfectly cooked fish, fabulous fries, great salad. Highly recommended

High Expectations. But disappointing. Got there at 6.30pm, entree at 6.45. Main at 7.00 pm and out by 7.35 pm. We don't know what the rush was, as it was only half full. Snapper .. cold and overcooked. Highlight was the sautéed beans and the shoestring fries. It was highly recommended by a friend in the industry, but we must have struck an "off" night.<br/>Sad. We will try again when Michael is there.<br/>Graeme.

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. The Most amazing meal i have ever eaten- ... the dessert was even better! The Service was beyond perfect and i will keep going back again and again.. Small, intimate and romantic... Absolutly in love!!!

Had the most stunning dinner here last night. The flounder was perfectly cooked, generous size and along with beautiful French fries and lovely salad ensured I will return to Bacash again and again. Congrats also to the wait staff. In and the Pinot noir was sensational!

Went back to Bacash for my husband's birthday tonight as it's one of his favourite restaurants. Fairly quiet but it was a Mobday night. The food didn't disappoint - some of the best seafood in Melbourne. The waiting staff need some training on how to make patrons feel at ease though, and the bathrooms are in need of a serious renovation! Worth it for the food but at the prices ($40 mains) would like to see a little more attention to detail.
Catherine Osborne Ritchie
Was at Bacash a few days ago and it was as good as it's ever been ( either Toofey's or Bacash). Beautiful seafood cooked very simply. Delicious flavours, good portion sizes, and a well thought out wine list.
Kim Miller
Absolutely Fabulous. Came to Bacash for my work Christmas function and even though we were limited to our choice of dishes, the food was amazing. The calamari with chorizo for entree was a burst of flavour. The main which was flathead fillet on fregola with scallop, octopus and mussels was incredibly delicious and the dessert was the icing on the cake for me. The lemon cheesecake with lime sorbet, lemon granita and milk crumbs was the best dessert I have ever tasted. I would truly recommend this place and look forward to going again and seeing the whole menu.
Absolutequiddity
Sadly the emperor has no clothes - sampled their nicoise interpretation - confit tuna grey unappealing appearance - sparse on the green bean too much accent on the salt aspect anchovies & tapenade, cold potato slices, in all the dish did not sing. Chef you need to rework this dish it compromises your reputation.
Issie
Ordinary. Had a meal with my husband at Bacash this week. Waited for over 10 mins and then had to ask for menus as they were not forthcoming. Not very cosy and uncomfortably cold throughout. $42 for a main course of some ordinary fish with a bit of vegetables was rather steep! The goats cheese and endive salad was good, as was the chocolate tart. All in all though, it's just not worth the price. Ambience is just about ok, service is tolerable. Won't be returning which is a pity as we'd been looking forward to it.
The Napoli Alert
Fresh simple seafood. Beautifully done seafood, loved the entree of garfish nori rolls followed by flavoursome whole flounder. Pleasant service and an all round nice experience.
Bogan Cantte
Excellent service and food. Top notch!. Terrific service! One of my favourite restaurants to visit regularly after work. The wait staff are always attentive and accommodating of requests. The fish is always fresh and cooked perfectly, something other restaurants can't seem to accomplish. Decent wine list helps complete the experience.
Munchies
Really good food. My friend had her birthday dinner here and we were all really happy with our selection of food. The seafood dishes were really fresh and tasty and my steak was cooked perfectly and yummy. Dessert was also nice, I had the chocolate mousse and my friends had the cucumber cake, a weird choice but they enjoyed it.
Leelee56
Great food, good service, but the wait between entree & main was too long! The extended timing put us off from ordering dessert!
Fitzroylocal
Lost its pizzazz. Have been to Bacash many times and keep coming back for the simply cooked fish. Last visit was a disappointment, overlooked fish is not what is expected or accepted at the restaraunt. These days Michael Bacash seems to spend most of his time walking the floor, schmoozing the patrons. A friend had the spaghetti marinara, another favourite and it was lovely.<br/><br/>Food is still good, but given price and reputation, and the fish focus, we expected much more.
R1
A Little Both Ways. We had been to Bacash a couple of times before. On this occasion the food was again terrific. We had the eye fillet steak and spaghetti marinara. What was disappointing was the loud and boorish behavior of a table of diners who were obviously well monied and regulars who should have known better and been more at home in the public bar of a pub where I am sure they would have been asked to settle down. The wait staff were great, attentive and patient, with one obviously embarrassed by the behavior of the aforementioned group. The maitre-de appeared stressed. Having said that, the food was great.

If I Could Turn Back Time.. Hello 90s food! Expensive, but you are sitting opposite the botanical gardens. The wine list is great value though.
Uroldoc
Top Fish. No one does fish better than these guys. Top shelf service especially from a really nice Indian waitress at our work function.Highly recommended.
The Wine Bloke
This is Melbourne's greatest seafood restaurant! The food here is impeccable and amazingly fresh. Great ingredients are the core of the dishes and Michael (owner and chef) knows exactly how to use them. <br/>The wine list is fantastic, well thought out and moderately priced (for a restaurant of this stature) so it is easy to stay, eat a little more and enjoy a bottle of wine. I can recommend the place strongly enough.
Guineapirate
Hmm.. My partner and I recently dined at Bacash on a Monday night. The food was generally impeccable but the service was appalling. <br/>The booking was made a month is advance and the restaurant was informed it was for a birthday, so imagine my annoyance at being seated at table 30, the worst possible table in the place, in the 'training section' with no table linen, directly under a very bright downlight, and the dishonour of being privy to every conversation (regarding both customers AND the weekend antics of the staff) had at the POS on the wait station. Also the constant fear of being smacked in the head with a menu being removed from the station was slightly unnerving. <br/>After being judged and found wanting, we were seated, watered and ignored for a good 10 minutes, we had to flag down a waitress to order G & T's and ask for food menus. Food decisions made, we ordered an 07' Weinbach Schlossberg Grand Cru Riesling, which was excellent although it was apparent that corks in wine bottles are confusing for some waitstaff. <br/>The calamari with chorizo was perfectly cooked, if not a bit small, and the scallops were perfect, the maple-glazed pancetta was a sweet, sticky dream. We followed with the goats cheese walnut and witlof salad which was delicious (after we sent it back to have the key ingredient of goats cheese actually added to it). My main of seafood marinara was amazing, full of tasty seafood morsels (loads and loads of scallops which happen to be my favourite) perfectly cooked pasta and beautifully presented. The baby snapper (or was it John Dory? Every table seemed to get a different story) was fine but a bit underwhelming. We ordered a bottle of Franz Haas Pinot Bianco to go with the mains, upon being informed that it was out of stock by the 'manager' (lots of time for talking, less for actually working) we were offered some odd bottle that was either the last in stock or the only wine of that variety he'd actually ever tried. We went with the Gilbert Picq Chablis instead. For dessert I couldn't go past the dark chocolate soufflé with cherry ice cream (amazing except for the overwhelming taste of cooking oil spray as i got towards the end of the dish) and the panacotta, whilst a bit firm was also good, the coconut pearls were clever and delicious. <br/>All in all, a tasty birthday dinner slightly marred by incompetent staff, we walked out $470 poorer wondering who we'd offended. My partner and I are both veterans of the restaurant industry and would be horrified if our staff delivered that level of service to our customers. If you're after good seafood and don't really care about the level of service you're provided with, then Bacash is the place to go.
Queen Of Tarts
Very nice food but $42 for a piece of fish seemed on the pricey side. Service was way too quick, in and out in 30 mins, bit rushed really! Was it microwaved??
Lily N
Treat on Domain Road. The Fig tart with proscuitto and gorgonzola is fantastic!<br/>I love this side of town, especially Domain Road. Such a beautiful spot with trendy cafe's and clothing stores.<br/><br/>An expensive pit stop but the service is impeccable and food divine.
Fiona Rowe
A+ service. I took a friend here for his birthday dinner and yes it was pricey for what it was, but we wanted good seafood and that is what we got. We started with oysters natural which were fresh and tasty and also stuffed zucchini flowers which were also great. <br/><br/>For mains, I went with the fish of the day, the flounder and this was fantastic! It was tender and came straight off the bone, delicious, but the side fries weren't anything to write home about and I pecked at the salad over them. My friend had the spaghetti marinara, which he said was good but again, nothing to write home about.<br/><br/>So while the food was good, the service was what really stood out. Our waiters were attentive, helpful, funny and eager to answer any questions we had. One of our waiters was so impressive I actually had my friend ask his name, although I have now forgotten. They recommended us drinks, explained things to me and also happily made up a scrummy cocktail when they did not have the ingredients for the one I wanted. As we were one of the last couples downstairs, they were happy to chat and have a laugh with us until we were ready to leave.<br/><br/>Overall, nice place to go for a romantic dinner (if it's not too busy as tables are kind of close) as it was a little pricey but somewhere I would go back to.
Karissa
Yummy but pricey
Attila
Still Melbourne's best seafood. Michael Bacash is Melbourne's best seafood chef, He sources the best and doesn't over work it. Its a little expensive and a Mature dining room, so not where i would go for a boozy lunch. But if you want good fish break open the piggy bank and make a booking.
Kerryblack
Good. Nice little place <br/>Food is always good not fantastic but you can go and know the food won't be a let down <br/>The fish of the day is always a winner<br/>Probably a little over priced but what do you expect on this stretch of sth yarra<br/>The floor staff are always fantastic very professional<br/>Probably one of the best places in Melbourne for service
Melbcitydiner
Good quality simple food. Just had lunch there today with a client. My entree was sushimi grade tuna which was magnificent! <br/>Main course of spaghetti marinara was also fantastic - lots of good seafood with a simple sauce.<br/>Service was attentive and prompt. Client had panna cotta for dessert and loved it (he's Italian so a credible opinion.<br/>Yes its pricey (mains are low $40's) but reliable if you want something simple
Nardz
Nice food, good fast friendly service, bit expensive but worth it for an occasional treat.
Foodie
Disapointing. Really disapointing <br/>from the service to the food <br/>really no excuses as it was a Tuesday and not even 1/2 full<br/>lots of screaming from the kitchen which seemed silly considering it wasn't busy enough for there to be pressure on them
MAB
Michael produces consistently high quality food. Service and wine list are excellent. A bit expensive but you get what you pay for.
Minerva
Bacash is consistently good and great for a family meal. A little more intimate than its neighbour Botanical and the staff are very welcoming. Like to see a little more variety in their menu though. Worth trying the witlof, goat's cheese and caramelised walnut entrée.

No fuss fish. This place has a really nice feel about it. Relaxed but still serious about the food. Great selection of entrees - some real gems in there. Fish is the thing, so while there are some non-aquatic mains, come here for the fish, simply but expertly prepared. The flounder is great. Some really nice desserts too. Staff helpful and friendly. Reasonable winelist, with some interesting European stars. Not cheap but a polished experience

Top quality seafood. Bacash would in my opinion vie with the Botanical for top restaurant in South Yarra, not that there is a shortage of good restaurants of all types and price range in this neck of the woods. Specialising in seafood cooked with passion and flair don't expect your visit to be cheap. If your budget runs to this or for a special occasion, there is not too much better south of the Yarra.
