This little gem had stayed hidden from me, even tho we have multiple medical apts at numerous places all around the area. I only noticed it a few weeks ago, and finally got a chance to pop in there yesterday. Wow, what a surprise! A tiny shop front led me to a great space full of happy diners. I had the red chilli scrambled eggs. Beautiful! Service was great too! I didn't have a lot of time between medical apts, but I'll def be back next time!
Visited yesterday arvo for takeaway coffee and desserts and loved the coffee + service so much we came back for breakfast this morning. Quite possibly the best coffees I have ever had and such prompt, wonderful service! The lovely gentleman behind the counter both days was so wonderfully kind with my 3 year old daughter.
Can’t wait to visit when we are next back in Melbourne!

What one does after running a Marathon? Brunches!! That's what we do and the closest option was Square and Compass.
Quite a crowded morning, we had to wait for almost 15 minutes to get a table.
This place has amazing vibe. Attendants are friendly and helpful, music is good and coffee is excellent.
Ordered a Potatoes Roesti with Salmon, Laksa Fried Rice, Chicken Schnitzel and Omelette
Easily, the smoked salmon was the winning dish of the day. Good flavors going quite well with each other. Second best was the Fried Rice. It was yummy and nicely spiced, though couldn't see much of chicken.
Schnitzel and Omelette were pretty simple and easy food and had not had much going with it.
We definitely loved the food and the prices are quite decent to taste and portions.
They have Vegan and Vegetarian options but quite limited.
I dropped into this nice cafe for brunch yesterday. The staff were really busy with the coffee order rush in the morning and after having my 3/4 latte I could tell why this place is so popular! My coffee was delicious and I enjoyed it to the last drop.
I also ordered a red chili scrambled eggs which were a decent portion size and tasted nice. It wasn’t as spicy as I would have perhaps liked, but a good dish nevertheless.
Had Lunch here a week ago. I ordered a rosti with leaves, salmon and creme fraiche. Simple but was a real delight, fresh and tasty. Coffee was pretty good as well. Good spot for lunch.
A lovely cafe East of the city, Square and Compass has a friendly vibe and a calm and cosy atmosphere. A great place to stop for a coffee, or even to get an amazing takeaway.
Service is always really good here, and I have found the staff to be really welcoming. Coffee is excellent, as is the food; and they have some awesome cakes and pastries too. It's a popular spot, so the locals are definitely onto a good thing.
Awesome little cafe.... blends well into the residential properties either side with a house front facade. When you first enter we are always greeted with a friendly welcome smile. The dinning area is open and airy opening out onto a rear courtyard. The food is always consistent in quality and is prepared in a timely manner. Coffee is also great. We have been there 4 times and keep going back because we like the vibe and the experience. A must try when in East Melbourne
We visited Square and Compass for brunch this morning with a friend who has recently moved nearby. I was suitably impressed by the buzzing atmosphere and the space that seemed to continue to extend. From the storefront it looks tiny but there are quite a number of tables inside and they were almost fully occupied upon our arrival.
I ordered the bircher with dehydrated fruits and my husband the open omelette both of which were quite tasty albeit not quite as stunningly presented as they appeared on Instagram. Our friend had the smoked salmon potato hash which was a more generous serve than the other two but overall we enjoyed our light meal
Had a delicious breakfast here on Monday! Very, very good I highly recommend dropping by this cafe. The staff very attentive and happy, the service was prompt. Coffee 10/10, well played guys you will see me again soon!
Incredible carb dishes and salads, great little cafe atmosphere and very friendly staff! Healthy options along with all things yummy. Quick service, baby friendly
This place was very nice. The boys working were friendly, attentive and switched on. The chai was okay, not the best I’ve had. The smashed avo was delicious but a bit pricey for the serving size - it would be better with two slices of toast (the bread is divine) to cater for the two poached eggs served. Presentation was fantastic, spewing I didn’t snap a photo before I launched into this yummy dish. Thank you!
I was very happy after my visit to Square and Compass.
I ordered the crunchy peanut butter, heirloom tomatoes, salt and pepper peanuts on toast after reading ‘trust us’ written next to it on the menu. I was not disappointed and I have mentioned to countless people since how well peanut butter and tomato go together. A must try!!
