For appetizer, we tried the bruschetta. it's yum, so fresh. the bread was perfect. not too crispy. nor soggy. For main, I ordered Penne Alfredo and my friend had Gnocchi Alla Sorrentino. Both were tasty. The service was swift. Might have another visit to taste their dessert.
The food was pretty decent. We got two appetisers, a trio of dips and a calamari fritti, both were excellent. I ordered the special pasta linguini calabrese, packed with plenty of prawns and what seemed like a mountain of chorizo, excellent! My father was with me and he ordered the linguini and meatballs which he said was really good. The service was amazing, the waitresses attentive and pleasant to deal with.
Very traditional setting, with plenty of pictures, and posters from shows that have had runs at the Princess Theatre just around the corner.

What a blast from my past coming here after many years of dining elsewhere. It has to have been in the late 70’s that I first came here and really it hasn’t changed much. Food and expectations change though but it was like slipping on an old pair of jeans. Atmosphere nice and easy. Service by staff good. Meals came out quickly and in good portion sizes. Had to have the carbonara. Nice flavours.
It’s also a great place to do some people watching of Bourke Street pedestrians. Wheelchair friendly. Pram and stroller accessible. Tram right out the front. Will return. Sorry it was so long between visits.
We hadn’t visited this place in ages and were pleasantly surprised at our meals as well as the service. I got the Linguine Puttanesca for main and the Chocolate Brownie for dessert. The pasta was exceptional. It was cooked perfectly and coated in a tasty sauce with bite. I honestly could’ve eaten another bowl full. When the brownie arrived it looked sparse on the plate but omg it was the best brownie I’ve ever had. Rich, gooey, with macadamia nuts inside for crunch and a coulis to balance the flavour. The service was also fab. They fast-tracked our orders as we had a show on and gave us a great experience. I couldn’t fault a thing. We’d love to come back and see if Spaghetti Tree exceeds our expectations again.
I was very happy with the food and service
My daughter is vegetarian so asked for the parmesan cheese to be omitted and it was no problem for them at all. Surprisingly not very busy for a Sunday night at 6pm. Delicious fresh prawns in the Garlic Prawn dish.
Went here on the weekend & were greeted by friendly stuff. Our waiter that night was really nice & helpful! I got the fettuccine carbonara & garlic bread to share. The food came out really fast & was good. I think the carbonara was a little dry though but still was good. I really liked the look of the restaurant especially the lanterns.
Went to dinner with a friend before the theater. Service was great and quick, first question asked by staff was 'are you attending the theater tonight? '. We both ordered the same Garlic Bread, Lamb Back Strap and Berry Pannacotta. The entire meal was fabulous, lamb cooked to how we both wanted it (rare to medium & medium to well). All up a wonderful meal, have been coming here for years and have never had a bad meal.
Tried here for the first time with family and absolutely loved it! Atmosphere is great vintage movie star feel with an elderly man playing a accordion and also the organ. Meals were great family were impressed. The little boy in our party was spoilt by the staff with soft drinks and bowls of ice cream. Staff were very attentive and extremely helpful with a guest who had allergies. Would highly recommend for families and look forward to returning soon.
Very convenient location with good ambience. Food is not something u feel WOW about. We ordered potato wedges with some pesto gnocchi which turned out to be decent but not quite as the hype we had expected for the price that is paid for it. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Exceptional service and food. Catering for those in a hurry heading to the Theatre or movies or those just lingering longer. In and out in 45 minutes.
Perfect place if you’re off to the theatre. They were able to give us plenty of options that would come out quickly before a show! I ordered the lamb salad, lamb was cooked beautifully with those accompanying ingredients. Staff were very friendly. A bit pricey but overall a good experience.
I am surprised by the mixed reviews of this place. I had a take away fettuccine matriciana, the service was great and handled my dietry requirements well. The food was also delicious and to my surprise had a decent level of spice :) will go back again when in the city :)
AMAZING. Unbelievable spaghetti. The best spaghetti bolognese i have ever had. The service is great and always a good atmosphere. 5/5 for me. This old establishment is simply amazing.
My partner loves the Spaghetti Tree, he always gets the same dish. I on the other hand have tried a few different dishes and i have to say the meals varies from very bad to very good depending on what you order. I love the decor and the services is always wonderful. It great that they ask if you are going to a show to ensure that you get there on the time.
Not sure what is going on with all the shitty reviews..... this place was absolutely lovely. Service was great, food was AWESOME and prices were reasonable (unless you're on a Maccas budget for your meal). We had a great night! Thanks so much!
Ordered the Veal Saltimbocca and my mother ordered Alberto Chicken. Without doubt one of the best meals I've ever tasted. Veal was tender, plenty of sauce (which was beautiful and full of flavour). Service was great and staff were really friendly. A bit of a wait on meals but it was insanely busy so it can totally be excused.
Dessert absolutely wonderful as well!!!
This restaurant was recommended by a coworker. The place looked very intimate from the outside, but when you step in the place is grand. I was quite amazed and intrigued. My bf ordered the marinara pasta which he found a little plain for his liking but he's quite a salty person lol I had the risotto which I enjoyed at first. I'm not much of a risotto type of person so I didn't finish it. It was hard to choose what to eat! The steak and chicken parma looked popular. We might come back to try!
Went here for dinner tonight, I had the blackstrap steak and veggies, omg it was beautiful.
The staff where outstanding, the manager even gave me a little red wine for free. I will defiantly be back here!
It was New Years so very busy but the service was friendly, personable and quick. We had 5 kids so this place was perfect. Everyone said they enjoyed their meals, they have the standard pastas here. However I had pumpkin tortilini and the pumpkin was not cooked through, it was hard so the meal was a little disappointing, the pasta was fine. Others had the carbonara, spaghetti bol, canolloni, and beef tortillni. This place is probably your average pasta place but it was great with a bunch of kids.
Impeccable service and delicious meals.
We often go there before a show and have tried many of the wonderful dishes. Never had a bad meal.
Fair pricing.
Customer service is always excellent. Highly recommend.
How fantastic restaurant!!!!!there have many great spaghetti bolognaise!!!!!❤️❤️❤️💋💋💋💋💋💋I will come to this restaurant again and again
Have been to this place a few times now and the food is always amazing. The staff are also very good. Gnocchi with pesto tonight. Highly recommend coming here.
A very popular place for the theatre-goers so this place is always busy. I've eaten here several times and always receive friendly service and delicious pasta. If it's super busy service can be pretty slow, and my garlic prawns were cold however it was rectified quickly and I got a replacement. My dining partner has ordered the spaghetti bolognese several times and it is consistently full of flavour and satisfying. They also have a wide range of desserts that are perfect to end the meal with. My personal favourites are the tiramisu (a must!) and the chocolate brownie. The decor of this restaurant is one of kind for Melbourne and very pleasing to look at whilst dining. I must say it can get quite loud due to the large amount of guests and also the live music they have.
Admittedly we were a walk in on a Saturday night - we were told we'd have to wait 15 minutes for a table so we asked if we could sit at the bar and have a drink while we waited. We sat there 14 minuites I think - being totally ignored, with the bar shelf in front of us totally covered with dirty glasses. Finally we were asked if we'd like to buy a drink.
I liked the decor of the restaurant, the lovely lamps, carpet (yay! - no sound issues). We had a lovely waitress and the lasagne was delicious.
Went here a while back, stopping in hungry for lunch. The interior is beautiful and it engulfs you, making you feel like the melbourne streets are far away. I was feeling hungry and particularly plain that day so i got a parma, the flavours were brilliant however the serving size was poor for the price. So much more potential in this place i reckon.
This place smells amazing from the outside and the ambiance and atmosphere is very charming. The customer service was really respectful and kind. The music in the background and the size of the place is just as beautiful as the wall design. The food wad fairly nice although for the price not anything special. Reasonablly affordable place to visit if you are into the low key environment.
We had a school reunion today at the Spaghetti Tree & we had the best day! The staff were just fantastic, the food was lovely & the ambience was great. They let us stay all day (we didn't leave until 6 p.m.). They put the closed sign on the door & just let us party!
Thank you guys. We will definitely be back!
The fact that people have provided reviews which speak to the high quality of food and service of this restaurant yet provided a ranking of less then 4stars, doesn't sit right with me. I had an amazing night out in a great atmosphere where the food was perfect and the service impeccable. We even brought our luggage for the coming flight with us and the servers were happy to help put it away do we could enjoy our meal. Being from Perth we see this service very rarely. This restaurant is kind and warm like an Italian family. I will come again next time I come to Melbourne.
Very satisfied! Organised a corporate lunch here for 30+ people and the food, service and restaurant were impeccable. Staff were very accommodating to our requests and pre-orders, and the service was very timely. On top of this, the prices were very reasonable. We will be back. Thanks!
J ordered Linguini with Meatballs @ $19.50. The meatballs were succulent and tender, not those dry and MSG-filled ones at IKEA. The linguini were rather narrow, they should be thicker! The sauce was great too.
Food is fine...service is very questionable. If I were the owner, I would rethink hiring the current staff.
Great everything!. The veal saltimbocca was deliciously out of this world as was the home made tiramisu! The staff were excellent - very impressed with the young Italian female waitress serving our table. The restaurant had an olde worlde funky vibe. Would I dine here again when next in Melbourne? YES definitely!
Good food. Good service and fast. Would eat here again next time I visit Melbourne.
We ordered the spaghetti and gnocchi with the napolitana sauce. Yummy! The food was great, service was good too although it was made ever better by the live music entertainment by a lovely fellow called Gregory. He really added to the atmosphere in making it an enjoyable evening!
Quick, Easy and Reasonably. We went to Spaghetti Tree at the last minute with no booking. Despite it being very busy we were quickly found a table and staff provided great service from as soon as we entered. Orders were taken quickly and meals arrived promptly. Meals were reasonable and reasonably priced. If you are after something quick and easy then I would suggest Spaghetti Tree!
Old school. This reminds me of dining out in the 80's. nothing flash. I like the daggy decor and retro menu.... Old skool spag Bol with no nonsense.
We'll be back!. Had a lovely meal tonight. We had the Gnocchi Ciocara & Fetticini Marinara for mains and Tiramisu & Sticky date pudding for dessert. Friendly staff, loved the atmosphere, will definitely come back. (Book a table near the front window!)
Perfection - loved the Spaghetti Marinara - fresh tomato flavor and garlic - generous serving of seafood throughout ... Spaghetti was just firm
Enough Yes they have it just right! Staff know their job and their wine - just the right amount of attention. Brown Brothers Cienna served at a temperature we like! Entree of prawns and scallops - easily a 10/10. Loved the background music ... If you have not been for awhile - put it in your diary - paying for quality and getting it!
I thought this place had a great atmosphere, this plays a big part in dining out the food was fresh ,clean, well presented and and with a true traditional Italian taste. Service was quick and efficient amd staff well trained and managed, you felt welcome and relaxed. Nothing over the top and priced well. Three of us had mains, garlic bread, drinks for under 100 bucks, enjoyed it totally!
The atmosphere, food, service and everything in between at Spaghetti Tree was sublime. One of the loveliest restaurants I have been too. Each of the waiters and waitresses were very helpful and prompt. Every time I visit Melbourne I hope to visit spaghetti tree and never feel like my trip is complete without one visit to Spaghetti Tree (or two, or three!) and the decor will make you feel like you've stepped into a new reality of pasta, flavoursome sauces... Just food with real passion! Your welcome :)
Came here for lunch, food was tasty and portions were good. The decor was amazing: Some describe is at quite kitch, however it reminds me of classic eateries in New York. Definitely one of the more interesting places to eat!
Solid, honest old school pasta. Just like Nonna used to make! I know a lot of reviews have bagged the decor, but I like the fact it's so old school. Many Italian places are uber trendy, and a lot of them are fine. It's just nice to go for some classic pasta in a restaurant that should be heritage listed.
Spaghetti Tree is a slightly quirky Italian restaurant filled with knick knacks, photos and other bits 'n pieces to give the place a really interesting look and atmosphere. Our main meals were good but the sticky date pudding was the highlight for me, really delicious. Service was excellent with a very friendly and efficient waitress looking after us. I'd be happy to return here.
it was a late night after seeing candle light show at Fed square, that show was awesome. after that we weren’t so hungry but wanna have a drink, we picked the spaghetti tree, they have the most amazing h interiors i have ever seen, they are vintage, the lantern hanging on the ceiling, pianist playing . we had polenta chips and wedges.
so good to relaxing here
It’s a nice experience having dinner here. The restaurant looks so nice with the vintage portrait displays and the live music. Cool venue, attentive staff, and the main thing is the food is amazing, and the dessert is incredible!
Must try!
It was an amazing experience having dinner at this place. The waiters were very accommodating and friendly. The hot chocolate with marshmallow is must to have on a cold evening. We ate a vegetarian sauce version of Pasta Al Primavera and Bruschetta which were delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Such a cool restaurant! Very unique, loved the vintage feel. The pasta was quite average but delicious nonetheless. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
Lovely restaurant. My friend was craving for some pasta and was recommended this by Google maps 😂. The pasta was amazing. We almost had seconds. The bruschetta was so fresh and refreshing. The waitress who waited our table was very friendly as well. Good service. Price wise - AUD 20-30plus for a plate of pasta, bruschetta was about AUD 5 a piece)
