We went to Ides pre-covid19 lockdown. Their sunday lunch menu surely delivered their usually high quality and even exceeded my expectation.
Came here before lockdown and it really show cased Australian food with a twist. Loved all the dishes, the ambiance and the attentive staff
Loved the set menu and wine pairing! Really great experience. Ambience of the place was great too, dark and mysterious.
Managed to get a last minute reservation here - thankfully it isn't completely booked out on a Sunday night. The food, service and wine were all super nice. We didn't get all of the courses, however, it was still super filling. Each course packed plenty of flavour and the dessert was fun to unpack. Definitely recommend giving this place a go!
We came here for the degustation and I really enjoyed the first half of the meal. A few stand outs were the scallops ( so creamy), prawn with avo oil, fried chicken and the bacon broth( the soup was so tasty and clear). The highlight of the meal was most definitely the bread with the peanut butter, this was extremely decadent and delicious.
For the larger dishes we had an Avocado dish with caviar, this was such a delicate dish- the flavour combination was really lovely. The corn and duck dish was my least favourite, the soup was a bit odd for my liking.
The confit salmon was also extremely delicious, this was so soft and one of my favourite dishes. The last savoury dish was the pork jowl, the texture of this was so unique- a very enjoyable dish
Desserts unfortunately was not my favourite part of the meal, the best was probably the black box due to the theatrics
We came here for a birthday celebration, and chose the full ides menu. I also chose the non alcoholic pairing, being the driver, and would highly recommend this option due to the variety of fascinating drinks I was given! The bread with peanut butter was a crowd favourite, and every dish was presented with such care and detail. Definitely a fancy dining option, but worth it for special occasions!
A wonderful experience. Service was above and beyond. We really enjoyed everything. Would visit again.
IDES is baby to former Attica sous chef Peter Gunn and personally, it ranks higher than Attica in my books. We had originally booked for the 4 course menu but I changed my mind last minute which fortunately, they were able to accomodate. The menu began with some salted mushrooms hidden within some rocks followed by a feast of snacks. Each snack was different in texture, taste and origin yet all tied beautifully together. Following on were 4 mains, 2 desserts and petit four to finish. Throughout the night, service was attentive, friendly and seamless. Food was always served by two waiters simultaneously, table was cleaned between courses, all the little things that are often dropped and dismissed. I also want to mention that each person that came to the table had the same welcoming smile and vibe. Overall a great night and the highlights were the peanut butter, scallops, fried chicken, ox tail broth, fish and the adorable anniversary gift at the end. 10/10 restaurant in my books. Highly recommended!
Really enjoyed my sample menu experience in IDES. The sample menu is where the chef “tries out” dishes to see if they should put it in the perm menu I believe, and it’s slightly cheaper at $80 pp. We also got one wine matching $80 and one non-alcohol matching. The matching are both impressive, but I really enjoyed the non-alco version better.
We started off w the yummiest bread w peanut butter butter. It was so good we were tempted to have another. But we resisted as we have plenty of food coming.
The four courses was really a highlight, starting off with a celerairc vegetarian course, moving onto a chargrilled fish which was beautifully cooked. We were less impressed with the pork chop, it was a bit fatty, salty and a touch overcooked. The dessert was a blueberry meringue. I don’t normally like meringue but this is a steamed meringue and it was amazingly delish. The nuts added a bit of a crunchy texture and there is a bit of salt in it to balance the sweetness.
We also had a few of their dishes that are on special: their oyster ($8 each), snapper wing ($20) and cos lettuce ($8 each) are all very delicious but the prices are quite steep.
Overall we really enjoyed the experience and I would love to go back for the four course menu because I want to try their Black Box dessert!

Visited Ides for anniversary and everything was on point! From sesame sourdough & peanut butter to spiced cashew nuts and then seared lamb with truffle, every bite surprises me 🤤 Personally prefer less salty food, it would be perfect if reduced some salt on certain dishes. Otherwise all good! Definitely coming back again. #stayinmelbournefood @melbourne_stayinmelbourne
