This place has the best coffee and the food is amazing. Everything is well priced and if i could give it a 6th star i would. Highly recommend this cafe.
Great breakfast & coffee. Always friendly staff. Close to Vic marketmarket, great way to start the day.
Great cafe. Friendly staff and good value. Well worth visiting.
Phancy is a great little cafe opposite the Queen Vic Markets which offers a diverse menu . Cosy atmosphere that's complimented by excellent customer service .well done to all involved 👍
Wonderful staff, great food and amazing coffee breakfast while in Melbourne has been beautiful with these guys
The create your own breakfast optional was fun and exciting. Then to see it all out on the plate looked amazing. Then to top it off everything was delicious, even the coffee was quite nice not to mention how lovely all the staff were. Definitely coming back! (:
I have breakfast here most mornings before work and 1-2 lunches a week and Anthony and Nikki and Sophie and the Kitchen Staff are the most amazing hosts, I could not love this place more, really good food and great atmosphere with friendly staff in a great location. Keep it up guys!
Thank you for helping my friend who has been struggling with some stuff and helped him out enormously when his property got stolen ! I can’t wait till I have a day off so I can come visit your establishment and try your products for myself ! So excited !!
Thank you for your kindness to BJ Cook, when he was robbed.
Kindness is everything.
First time in Melbourne, tried these guys the second day we were here and they were absolutely fantastic, have been back twice since, coffee is amazing, the food is fantastic and the staff are some of the kindest I've ever dealt with, will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Melbourne
Fantastic breakfasts and great coffee. Their menu is just right
One of the friendliest owners in Melbourne CBD... Passionate and coffee, very tasty food... My easy place!
A friendly welcome and good, strong hot coffee. Just what was needed early on s Sunday morning. For the bargain price of $2 (if ordered a coffee) I got a fresh out of the oven home made muffin.
My friends and i got tired after visiting the Queen Victoria Markets. We stopped her for break and a refreshing beverage. The service was friendly.
Such an understated hidden gem in the city. The coffee is amazing, and the breakfasts are delicious while also affordable. The service is great and personal, they remembered our order after only being here one time. Definitely worth a try!
Literally stumbled upon this on our late day in Melbourne while walking to the markets and starving.
Didn't disappoint. $50 for 3 of us. Breakfast was delicious, service was friendly and quick and very welcoming.
Setting is anything but 'phancy' but food was tasty
I originally mistook Phancy Café as a pit-stop for vagrants – such is the dim-lighting and squalid surrounds – but I soon found it to be a reliable performer for the budget-conscious eater. Proprietor Anthony Phan has an affable, ingratiating disposition, and has developed a unique formula to bake muffins. If I recall correctly, he initially pressure cooks the batter (which at a guess is similar to boiling), before briefly placing the muffin tray in a piping-hot oven. The result is a muffin with a relatively crispy exterior and a densely moist interior. There are no other muffins in the market (that I have found, anyhow) which possess this exemplary texture, which is utterly delicious.
Anthony has a deal where a muff is thrown in for $2 with a coffee, which is well worth trying (arrive early if you want the white choc/raspberry).
The kitchen is home to a Punjabi brother and sister who are equal parts talented and friendly. You can expect your food to arrive promptly, with good flavor, and I am not sure you can ask for much more at this very competitive price-point. I would like to recommend the French Toast – a weekly staple of mine. In terms of the coffee – unfortunately this is where the enterprise is found wanting. There is a conspicuous lack of body and depth in the coffee flavor, but this is not uncommon, even at successful cafés. In summary, Phancy is certainly worth a pit-stop the next time you visit the Victoria Market.
Phancy is ironically anything but fancy, but it doesn't need to be as it serves up some of the best value food n service in this part of the CBD. Their $7.50 egg n bacon Turkish roll is fabulous and substantial enough to sustain you until dinner. Highly recommended.
This place was great. We only had a very simple breakfast but they were more than happy to accomodate our not-on-the-menu options. The lady that served us was friendly & helpful (wish I'd got her name) & the coffee was lovely. We're hoping they are open tomorrow as it is a public holiday but also our last day in Melbourne.
Great coffee, welcoming service and delicious food - everything you need!. I love this café. the staff are super friendly, have excellent memories and are always cheerful. the food is so great. they don't mind making some alterations, the build your own bfast is a great idea. I will keep coming here again and again and encourage you to give it a go!
Delicious home-made beans. Went for brunch and ordered the 'make your own' breakfast option. Really great food. Great service and really friends staff
Good for its food. Experienced this café on a Sunday for brunch. It was pretty busy, but the one waitress still managed to keep a good customer service. The atmosphere lacked something unique, the music was old school which was nice. The decor is a bit outdated. But none of that really matters because the food was definitely great. Try the special with pumpkin bread, delicious.
Breakfast bliss! I'm temped not to write this because I want to keep this place a secret! Amazing food, so fresh and the highest quality. The value is outstanding - 13.95 for smashed avo with 2 eggs. It's our new favourite local. Raspberry and white choc muffin was to die for and only $2 with a coffee. Friendly non pretentious atmosphere - go phancy!
One if the best chai lattes i've ever had!! portions are big, like their scramble eggs as well.
Local love. We live around the corner and this little gem has quickly become a firm favourite. The coffee is excellent, the muffins addictive (hello sweet sweet sugar!) and their breakfast delicious. If you are after some miracle breakfast experience this is not the place for you, but if you want to enjoy good tasty food, wonderful service, all at a really good price - give Phancy a go. Recommended is the bacon and egg roll and of course - their baked beans with chorizo are top of my list. Also the scrambled eggs are yummy, very creamy and buttery, and unlike the place down the road (I'm looking a you Muletas) they serve real thick sour dough toast. Recommended.
Smashed avocado on sour dough with cherry tomatos and the most beautiful smooth feta thank you for a great start to the day at a great price
Great food, good value. We ate there twice last October when we were visiting Melbourne from Perth, with friends who were down from Brisbane. Breakfast on the way to Queen Vic Markets was so good we went back one day for lunch. When we visit Melbourne next month to see Warhorse, we plan on having breakfast at Phancy every day.
A rare find. I work just across the road, but don't get me wrong, there are a number of cafes in the area - we come here because it's good.
Prices are good, staff are friendly, but most importantly, the food and drinks are great. They have revolving specials, across and interesting and diverse range of cuisines, but all are done well.
The breakfasts would be my favourite thing - eggs are always perfectly done - poached eggs are textbook (or cookbook) perfection, everything is seasoned well, and servings are generous. Hot chocolates are actually hot - not so hot that you can't sip them, but hot enough that you know it's been freshly made - unlike most I encounter nowadays, which are mostly tepid.
I consider that I have high standards when it comes to breakfasts, and I rarely recommend to others, but Phancy, I would.
OK so far. Have been twice now. Breakfast both occasions. Was too hungry to wait for lunch. Had a bean dish with soudough and that was nice and wholesome. Other time only had sourdough and jams and that was more than adequate for the price. The bread is really nice. Coffee is almost there.....but just not quite. Staff are pleasant. I'm a bit fussy about staff presentation and so I feel a little more effort would be good there. Jeans on waitress in this kind of venue doesn't cut it for me . Hair tied up too if you go near food prep area. It is a comfortable place to have brekky and coffee and spread the newspaper out. I will be trying lunch there this weekend as the burgers did look OK.
Muffins are hot....and a monster Chai tea! Yum :-)
Great cafe, attentive and friendly staff. So glad I stumbled across it. This is the best spot to get breakfast before you tackle the Vic Market. They cook their bacon & eggs to perfection.
Love the Coffee & Food. Best cup of coffee I had while in Melbourne! It also had a heart pictured on the top, which always makes you feel like the coffee maker put some love and care into making it. Also had the spring rolls and it made me feel like I had ordered them from Vietnam, as they were that good! My only regret would be that we only found this place on the second last day of our trip. Will definitely go there next time in Melbourne
Very nice place, food is good. Service is quick and friendly. Recommended for breakfast or coffee , could be good for lunch as well.
Coffee was good. The Bennie was good. The bacon and egg focaccia didn’t seem to have enough bacon or eggs. Prices were quite reasonable for the city though.
I wanted a place I can sit down and unwind a bit with coffee and a light breakfast, yet not in the middle of QV Market, and I found it. This small cafe was the perfect spot. Great coffee, and tasty food (I went for the eggs and bacon in a roll) with friendly staff Within a short walk from the market, makes for a perfect way to kill some time.
Great little Cafe with friendly staff. A good place to go for a healthy breakfast where you can quietly read the paper, before heading into Victoria Market which it just around the corner.
I'm typically not a big fan of greens, but the chicken salad was so delicious that I ended up eating more salad in that single meal that I did in the entire year. The chicken was flavourful and the salad was a refreshing contrast to the savoury cut.

Lovely experience !!!
My breakfast was to die for...the only mole was hollandaise sauce... sorry it was bland. Service, staff, cleanness wonderful.
First off, its hard to find a place serving locks... this place will not appoint! Absolutely excellent food! And I am an early-riser; they open at 6a.
