I cannot fault this place - after having numerous pre-game/pre-concert meals & drinks, I booked The Tippler for my 40th and they have well and truly outdone themselves. The food was amazing (as always) & in abundance, easily catering for my numerous food intolerances & my niece’s many allergies; the wine list & cocktails were fantastic; and the service from staff was exceptional. A big thank you to Gus, Nick, Kyle & Zoe for making everyone’s night one to remember!
Friends reccommended the Tippler and we've since had many a great night there. Awesome atmosphere, delicious food, friendly service and the added edition of some unique artwork! Love this place.
Had a great time and the food and atmosphere were fantastic. Highly recommend this place.
What a gorgeous little bar with gorgeous staff! We were over for work and it was the perfect spot for a cocktail or 3 and tapas/dessert.
Would definitely come back!!
We had an amazing evening of drinks and delicious food for my best friend's bucks party. Gus and the team did a magnificent job of making sure everyone was well fed and watered. This place is such a great bar
We love this place! Great food, friendly service & delicious beverages. Definitely worth a visit.
Fabulous food and service - highly recommend a visit
Love the place, great staff. Mirka painting helps the upstairs area.
Had dinner and drinks with my little family last Thursday. Delish food, great service and reasonable prices. Fabulous atmosphere- even got to pat a very cute doggy.... winning all round!
Great night at Tippler & Co. Beautiful courtyard, top beers and ciders, first class friendly service. Highly recommend.
Another amazing night at The Tippler and Co.! Incredible food, wonderful hospitality and service from Angus, Nicole and their great team AND a relaxed, warm atmosphere!
What more could you ask for?! Won't leave it so long between visits next time :-) Thank you for an awesome night guys
Fantastic food, friendly staff, great location!
Fantastic little bar, attentive staff, ambient atmosphere. Will be back!
Came here with a couple of friends on a cold rainy Thursday night. Service was great, food was good. Was also $3 Taco night so good if you’re a local. Great local bar if you’re after some snacks and a couple of drinks.
Booked this venue on line for a group of five on Anzac Day. After getting our seat allocation at the G we headed across for lunch. After standing at the bar for ten minutes waiting for service we were shown to our table upstairs, we ordered a round of drinks and the pre football tapas. The craft brews were really good and the tapas dishes were excellent except for the masaman curry as it lacked the spice we expected. Service was excellent as was the upstairs space.
Having dined here at least 3-4 times in the last 12
Months, I've never left disappointed. Always a fan of a restaurant where bookings can be made.
Nice wine list, lovely staff.
My favs : beetroot Arancini, mushroom tortellini, gnocchi and pumpkin salad!
Excellent option for pre-MCG drinks and bites to eat. The footy special (shared by blokes with good appetites) was more than adequate and very yum. The ladies shared a number of small plates and were very satisfied too👍
Went here tonight w a couple of mates for a couple before the footy. It's in a great location right next to the G.
This bar serves a good selection of craft beers and a cider on tap as well as a comprehensive selection of other drinks.
The service was great, and they also serve food here. This place had a really relaxed feel, friendly staff and punters.
This is my new local when a game is on haha.
Odd place with its long, thin, windowless dining room (so thin that people simply standing up to leave blocked the waitress getting through), separate bar/dining area with high tables and stools (would not want to eat there) and function room and garden (neither of which we saw - the first in use, the second too cold!).
European food made to share - very generous portions and styled to cut up/spoon out. Some excellent salads (particularly the roasted cauliflower), fabulous gnocchi and trout. Meat platter to start excellent value at $12 (ordered two for 5 of us - one would have been enough). Only disappointment was the red meat dishes (wagyu beef salad and 250g sirloin) which were just ordinary. Red wines $45 upwards - excellent Shiraz for $48.
Certainly a place to drop by occasionally - generous portions and some definite high points. And bill came to $250 for 5 - and we ate a lot!
The taste of the food were standard, i gv them 5/10, cauliflower salad, steak, sliders, tacos, gnocchi, etc, had better one elsewhere. The cocktail that i ordered, mojito and garden of eden was only okay, not strong enough and the mojito didnt have much taste. But the service was fabulous, we were served by Nick, and he was very friendly patient, attentive, and full of smile, he gave recomendation on whats nice and also brought crackers for our cheese platter for the second time without us asking. I gave this resto extra mark definitely for the service.
I had my 30th birthday dinner at the Tippler & Co and it was the best night I could have hoped for! Gus and the team were the best. We got a set menu and they catered for all our dietary requirements, which is so important to me as a vegetarian. The cheese sliders and the gnocchi were to die for! The food is some of the best in Melbourne and the meat-eaters loved their fare too.
I really appreciated how flexible its was when it came to numbers as well, and to kids.
Also, great drinks and really good prices, especially on a Sunday!
I visited tippler and co this past Friday evening with some friends for a catch up. I found the staff very attentive, friendly and knowledgable about their products. The drinks were a bit of a wait but the bar was busy, and they were worth it! At $10 a cocktail and $2 for oysters this is definitely the place to be after work on a Friday. Dinner was nice, the soft shell crab slider was a stand out for me. Great little bar!
Really enjoyed our evening here. Had a few drinks and lots of small food. All was good, the sliders and chicken and chips. The staff were super lovely and was a good place for a date, catchup or before heading out in the city.
Great bar, excellent wine. As a local this is definitely adds value to the East Melbourne neighbourhood. Also great pre footy. Food is also excellent. I have been here a handful of times since moving into East Melbourne a few years ago.
One negative which considerably sours the experience is one of the waitresses who has served me a number of times now. She has dark hair and is extremely rude. Asking about wine or ordering from her is like getting blood from a stone. The service she provides really dampens the mood of the whole place and I sincerely hope the owners of this place understand the poor service she is providing.
I was a little skeptical of this place at first. Whilst feedback is generally positive, there is a noticeable amount of people who have been and didn't enjoy their experience. I went with my hopes not incredibly high, but still anticipating that I would enjoy it. The venue is reasonably small and surprisingly quiet. We were sat outside in the courtyard, which was nice enough, but lacked music and a bit of atmosphere. Their drinks menu is quite extensive. The cocktails were nice and I would definitely recommend them. Particularly liked the inclusion of the "sours" options. The food menu here is different and basically encourages diners to share a range of dishes between them (I have always been a fan of tapas). We ordered chips, several little sliders, tacos and gnocchi all of which came out at good time intervals in between. The food was nice, given what you pay. The prices are actually quite reasonable here, which is a nice thing to see in this part of the city. My issue with the food menu was the variety! The menu is small and lacks options. This place would definitely benefit from having a few more options available for diners. I want to finish this review by commending the staff. They were great! Helpful, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. Couldn't speak any higher of them. This venue is located (whilst on a main road) in an area which mainly avoids the masses of Bridge Road / Hoddle Street / Victoria Street (unless of course there's an event at the MCG). Most of the time you won't need to worry about working your way through 1000s of people to dine here or have a few drinks. I'd recommend anyone to go and check this cool little place out.
This was a restaurant Helen and I discovered upon returning from our first Europe trip. Trip Advisor is the preferred review site overseas, so out of curiosity I looked up what the top Melbourne restaurant was on Trip Advisor. To our surprise, it was The Tippler & Co! We had never heard of this restaurant before, so we were very curious as to why The Tippler & Co. were rated so highly by our international and local visitors. We made an online booking and when we got there we realised that a booking wasn’t really necessary. This continued to be a common pattern even until today. Out of habit I still call up to make a booking every time just in case. If you’re someone that links how busy a restaurant is to the quality of their food, The Tippler & Co. will throw that theory out the window because their food is amazing!
The biggest food and drink secret in East Melbourne has to be The Tippler & Co. While having a small street front presence, its location bursts with plenty of potential within its charming three storey brick building. The Tippler & Co. is the answer for when the city dining and drinking scene has gotten ‘same same’ and something more authentic is required.
Having covered their successful Good Beer Week Event – Once in a BREW MOON – earlier this year, we caught up with the team behind The Tippler & Co. to see how this refreshing bar and eatery has progressed. The visit also marks the launch of their courtyard, a rare find in the East Melbourne area.
Absolutely delicious food, very informed and friendly staff, and also good gluten free options for the Mrs.
Only downside is location - on a quiet main road (if you know what I mean), so you don't get the night-time buzz, but quality of food makes up for it.
Good place but a VERY limited wine list
Brilliant. Possibly the best widely undescovered restaurant in Melbourne compared to the places you'd struggle to get a table. Happy hour goes for 2 hours...... Spot on!
Lovely fresh food, solid clean flavours. Great service, wine and decor. A local favorite
Finally a bar worthy of the title "our local"! Great food, friendly service and reasonably priced!
Fantastic service, food and atmosphere. Best gnocchi in Melbourne and the aranchini balls were delicious. Top marks all round!!
SENSATIONAL. We enjoyed the FEED ME selections which was recommended by Tippler & Co's friendly staff. The Pan Fried Gnocchi was to die for.
Food and service absolutely fantastic. The menu is interesting and great for sharing with friends. Service is also extremely good. I would highly recommend
Tippler is indeed an impressive venue. A tad out of the way which only enhances the appeal in my view. Highly recommended
Great place, friendly, intimate and relaxed. The Tippler and Co customer service is outstanding. They are friendly and attentive and very natural and making you feel welcome. The food is gorgeous and the range of drinks is really interesting and modern. Highly recommend a drink or a meal or just tapas, you will have a really nice time.
We held a staff function here in the upstairs room and I cannot fault the place. Food was delicious, and Gus was right in saying we would all be full when we left! Drinks were plentiful and service staff were friendly and fun. Can't wait to go back and enjoy the downstairs area and eat some of my favourite dishes! Only issue is the limited parking in the area, but I say that's just a good excuse to leave the car at home and use taxi or public transport!
Wonderful atmosphere, very efficient and friendly staff and the food was exquisite!! Wish I lived in Melbourne so I could go to the Tippler for a Tipple and a meal whenever I wanted. Please open one in Perth!!
Impressive little tapas place. Had a very satisfactory lunch here. Lovely dishes. Tasty and varies. Well presented too. Nice wine list. Pleasant staff. I'm keen to return.
Amazing food and great service. Had a birthday dinner with 17 people in the function room yesterday. Excellent dishes, great portions and fantastic service from the whole team at Tippler. Everyone loved the food and atmosphere. Special thanks to Gus, amazing service, very accommodating and informative. Highly recommended.
Loved it! Went for lunch to celebrate a birthday and it was great. Food is to die for and service is excellent.
Amazing venue, impeccable service and food was second to none. Went in to have a quick bevvie and ended up ordering the entire tapas menu.. Just couldn't stop eating this lush food!! It was simply was ah-MAZING!!! Will definitely be going back, one of Melbourne's little hidden treasures... Love love Loved it!!!
Amazing!!!! Delicious food, great fit out! Well done guys! Wonderful service!
Had a fantastic dining experience at The Tippler and Co. Great service with amazing food. Go for the gnocchi and say hi to our lovely waitress Hollie!
A little gem tucked away next to the MCG. We had the privilege of trying everything on the menu during our 4 day stay and can honestly say it is some of the best pub food we have ever had. The gnocchi here is the best we have ever tried, hands down, and the arancini balls are also incredible. The staff here were friendly, attentive and went out of their way to accommodate to our needs. Shout out to our amazing waitress holly for being such a great sport during our stay!
Most amazing bar I have ever been too!
Great service! Amazing atmosphere! Menu is superb!!!
Diner review, Friday Dec 20. Despite being 2 or 3 times the ages of the other patrons, we were immediately made to feel welcome in The Tippler. The staff were all attentive, friendly and professional. We enjoyed the tapas style menu very much, with the food being fresh and flavoursome. We tend to have lighter meals in the evenings these days, and being encouraged to share dishes enabled us to have an interesting variety of flavours.
Everything is excellent - service, food, drinks. I had a mocktail which was yummy and not too sweet. We shared chips and adult sauce (saucy), gnocchi, pate, and broccoli. All were amazing. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We'll be back!
Glad we stayed for dinner!. Great dining experience at The Tippler and Co., went for a drink, stayed for dinner and desert. The Sweet Potato Arancini and the Gnocchi were both delicious (great vego options on the menu) and I’m definitely returning to have the Crème Catalana again! The Tippler is a welcome addition to our neighborhood - just in time for summer.
Favourite new local!. I went to check out the Tippler for a drink with friends and ended up staying for hours! The atmosphere, awesome selection of 'tipples' and mouthwatering menu have made this place my new favourite local. We shared the patatas gravas, sweet potato and lime arancini, gnocchi, and slow braised lamb and chickpea stew - finished off with the ginger and date pudding with salted butter caramel and fried icecream! Each dish was seriously incredible (who is the chef?!) and I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Also, hats off to the bar staff - so polite and professional. And the table service is a really nice touch. I know where I'll be spending most of summer.
Allister McDougal. Went to the Tippler for a few drinks with friends, and the selection of boutique beers, wines and cocktails were fabulous as well as the friendly bar staff to help make your decision. Great to see local beers on tap, including the Coburg larger which is delicious.
Would recommend and will be back soon!!
Great venue, and efficient friendly staff. Would definitely go again- loved the arancini, and the chicken! Will be spending a lot of time here during the cricket season!
Love this new place, great selection of beers and a delicious food menu. can't wait to go for dinner there soon as the appetizers tasted amazing.staff were exceptionally friendly.
Fantastic venue, wonderful people.. What a wonderful afternoon and evening at Tippler & Co, great service by all staff. Excellent menu, share plates that make the mouth water. I will definitely be a regular at Tippler & Co.
Ambient atmosphere, great staff and perfect service and food. The Kennedy Shiraz is great too! Would recommend this place for a function or get together. Great job done with the Reno. Would recommend this place for sure. 5 spuds!
Our new local. We popped in on Sunday for the local's 'sneak peek' and we were very glad we did! Friendly bar staff, great drinks list, a lovely feel to the place and judging by the chef's samples we tasted, delicious food too. I think we've found ourselves a new local!
