Review Asado - Melbourne

The Gal Travels
Gorgeous interiors and friendly staff. The black opal wagyu beef is beautifully cooked using charcoal. It’s a tad tougher than the usual beef steak due to the method of cooking. What made it really tasty was the salsa that came with it. I had the king prawn skewer as a starter, though I didn’t think too much of it. Food tend to be on the pricier side but it’s definitely worth an experience.

Listen I walked forty five minutes across the city with a ravenous Argentinean to eat here. We sat down, deliberated briefly, and then ordered our food and drinks. As soon as the first plate arrived, we were transported to Argentina, no jet lag required. The atmosphere and decor are classy and unique, best suited to large gatherings or special occasions, with a little smoke hanging in the air from the open air grills. The chefs, trained by Argentineans asadores, are masters at the craft. I am convinced they interview each cut of meat and go through a twelve step program so that meat reaches its highest potential. When the meat hits the grill they have a clear plan, honed with years of mastery. The results? Spectacular. There are cuts of meat and entree options for literally anyone who even remotely enjoys quality food. Unless you have the misfortune of having no taste buds, you will love the food here. It is worth every penny, worth every step we took across the city. These people don't know good food- they only know INCREDIBLE food.

What a journey! The staff is lovely, what the heck! Wonderful customer service. The food 🤤 so good, each plate beautiful, well balanced unexpected at times coming from South America what a wonderful surprise to eat a a traditional dish with a twist. We feel full and happy 😊 loved my birthday present.

Classy and trendy place to fix your meat cravings! Price a bit high but the food is impeccable. Portion size small for my standard. Better to make a reservation otherwise think twice as you might get no entry

Christmas Holiday period 2021 Booked out. So make sure you book. You will not be disappointed Some of the most amazing tastes and defiantly on the “ Return to restaurant” list Hospitality was beyond normal and could not fault the assistance and discussion throughout the night. Downfall is the time line of sitting but no fault of the establishment with current rules. Table had some evidence of previous patrons (glass rest rings) but I do not think the staff actually knew or noticed the evidence before sitting is. As their cleaning between patrons was impeccable

Was in a hurry because we had a flight to catch (disappointed about that) but the staff was so generous, sweet and professional and advised us some veg quick meals that we could fill our tummies with and indeed was really yummy. Would definitely want to visit them again for their perfectly cooked meat though :D. Oh and about the ambiance, Beautiful it is <3 Cant wait to see you guys next time :)

This is certainly the best restaurant my husband and I have been to in years. The food was to die for! Absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was so warm, charming and special. We enjoyed exemplary service from our waiter Ezekiel. Our dietary requirements were catered for and we were not made to feel that this was a problem in any way. We both absolutely loved our drinks. We had two entrés and two meat mains with a vegetable dish and potato dish. They were all marvellous and full flavoured. We will certainly be back to try dessert, as we were so satisfied we could not fit any in. 😂 We highly recommend this place. ❤️

Birthday dinner date with the hubby. We found that the staff were really friendly and helpful. We ordered the provolone, octopus, pork, lamb, salad and pana cota. Very tasty and tender. My favourite would have to be the grilled octopus.

Being drawn in by the the red ASADO sign out the front this is the place for Spanish food and Argentinian style charcoal grilled meat!

Nice service and atmosphere. Empanadas was great as well as the ceviche and cheese. The steak was a little tough, I couldn’t taste the aged part. I’m a huge sweet tooth but the desserts were too sweet, a bit heavy on the dulce de Leche. Big portions.

I went to Asado recently and was very impressed with everything that was to offer, this includes excellent service, fit out and of course a lovely meal. I had the $70 banquet which comes with an empanada, chorizo, flank steak, salad, baked potatoes and a dulche de Leche cookie for dessert and left very satisfied. The steak comes with a salsa and chimichirri sauce which compliments it perfectly. All up I would highly suggest recommend.

Amazing restaurant. Came here for their bottomless lunch, and about 4 or maybe it was 5 jugs of their super tasty sangria made with malbec wine. <br/>From the get go, the service is impeccable and the servers are very personable. <br/>The food was delectable and we were so full after we finished. My favourite was the lamb shoulder which was so soft, tender and cooked to perfection. The cerviche was also marinated well and went down a treat! <br/>Would certainly come back for both service and food anytime.

Very similar menu with the other branch like San Telmo and Palermo. <br/><br/>We ordered the feed menu, very good spread. We ordered additional short ribs was amazing. Artichokes were amazing as well, great combination with meat. <br/><br/>Desserts were abit too sweet for me but great flavour. <br/><br/>Overall great experience. My only downside is because it is such a busy restaurant, they didn't give us our chimmicurri and salsa criolla.

Sometimes when I miss home I just walk to asado to have this amazing dessert<br/>Don’t forget to ask extra dulce de leche! <br/>Amazing views too

The broccolini makes me want to be a vegetarian! Which is strange in and Argentinian restaurant ;-)

Grabbed some takeaway food here. Had the chorizo roll, which was tasty and fresh. A bit of a wait at lunchtime, but good food.

We came here for our anniversary. Service was impeccable and food was amazing. Every dish was a winner.<br/>We ordered:<br/>- ox tongue pintxos - tender and great flavour<br/>- beef empanada - filling was very flavourful and crust was just right<br/>- pork empanada (special) - good as well but beef was better<br/>- beef tartar - good marinade/sauce giving a nice tang<br/>- half chicken - super tender and juicy<br/>-beef shoulder - beautiful charry crust but the inside was soft and tender<br/>-carrot salad - great mix of flavours that my wife loved despite not really liking carrots!<br/>- flan - very smooth and creamy. Moorish dessert that finished off a wonderful dining experience

Such an amazing atmosphere in there! Love our experience here on fathers day. Quick service and great recommendations by the wait staff.<br/><br/>You have to get the steak and grilled chicken as it is to die for. No matter what, make sure you opt to share small tapas/meals as there is so much you have to try.
AMac
Had a delicious dinner here. We tried the pork & beef meatballs, provolone cheese, char grilled chicken and broccoli slaw. Everthing was amazing. The chicken was so tender and juicy. All courses were fantastic. The staff were lovely and helpful. Can't wait to return and try more things on the menu.
Custardbun
Loved the empanadas and croquette starters. We chose the roast pork, lamb and chicken to share, as well as the cos lettuce salad and potatoes. It was a great meal! I tried the yellow capsicum ice cream out of curiosity, and was surprised by how much I loved it.<br/>

Had a $70 each set menu for 3 people. Al lot of tapas, not bad. We only had a small piece if steak, nice. For a barbecue place promising Argentinian bbq and plenty of meat, not much meat at all. Go else where.

I visited Asado with a colleague during a business trip. After our main waiter explained the menu and the time we had to expect for the mains, we ordered a few tapas, 2 small plates, 1 main and a side dish.<br/>The first tapas were two tiny pieces of bread with blue cheese and jamon. The flavours were there but the portion size was pathetic.<br/>This was following by the salted cod croquettes (which were okay but tasted a bit too oily) and a wonderful ox tongue: Tender, juicy and great aromas.<br/>The small plates were the chorico which had a very nice and intense flavour and the morcilla which was lacking that flavour.<br/>The main was the hanger steak which was wonderful: nice, thick, juicy, great aromas, and half rare accompanied by a slop of melted cheese in which most likely a bit of cabbage and bacon was hidden. Sorry but the side dish was a huge disappointment.<br/><br/>All courses (tapas, small plates and main with side dish) had their highlights (tongue, chorico, hanger steak) but also their lows (blue cheese bread, morcilla, burnt cabbage), so all in all it was okay.<br/>The service was nice: the main waiter was a bit too sales minded, the young lady who served the tapas and the small plates a bit to disengaged but the guy who brought the main was nice and attentive and finally fixed the wobbly table.

Visited this place for Saturday lunch and place is surprisingly not busy. We ordered some tapas, steak and sides to share among 6 of us. Food is overall yummy, however the meatball dish was unfortunately not as fresh. Steak is a tad too salty for our preference too, but it was still enjoyable with the complimentary salsa sauced provided.

Asado is a great place. We were greeted with a friendly smile. The restaurant has a great vibe... cosy and dark. We ordered empanadas, tapas with a side of potatoes. The main was Entrana which was melt in your mouth. Overall a great experience... we would visit again
Missfoodieguide
Spanish tapas eatery that is same group from SanTelmo. They also do steak which was charred and grilled to medium rare. Great food and great sangria. Lovely service too.
Karen
Had the most delicious meal here! All dishes were so packed full of flavour and cooked to perfection. The pork cooked over the fire pit was the juiciest, softest and tastiest pork I've ever had! Also can't go past that house made chorizo sausage and beef tongue skewer, absolutely divine. Perfect place for a great date night.
Got_2_lunch
Fantastic service and amazing food. The restaurant has a deep, dark vibe like others form this group, but is lighter and brighter with the addition of so many windows and view of people walking by the river.<br/><br/>Must try the chorizo, potatoes and pisco sour. Really really enjoyed the salas&#039;s as well, which were topped up for free many times. Great spot for a special occasion as is a bit above by usual casual fair
Tania
Lighting was dimmed to set the mood, staff were super helpful and friendly, especially this being our first time.<br/>Must definitely try the beef cheeks, they just melt away in your mouth.<br/>Also famous for their chorizo which is full of flavour.<br/>To finish, would recommend the flan - words cannot describe how delicious this was and was perfect to end the meal.

Staff are always so lovely. Food is seriously game-changing! Meat like you’ve never had before and even the drinks/cocktails are great. Can’t recommend this place enough

Tried this restaurant for dinner. You choose a few tapas before your main and sides arrive. We chose the beef steak Parilla for the main, roasted potatoes with sour cream and tomato sauce and carrots with aioli and pumpkin seed. <br/>Tapas were empanadas which is lamb shoulder pie, lengua which is beef toungu and croquet. It was great overall. I recommend the food and atmosphere and staff were attentive.<br/>The restaurant would cost you around 100-150 bucks for two people. Nice place .

Delicious food and wonderful service. The skirt steak was the standout dish - tender and cooked to perfection. Make sure you try the empanadas too - a great way to start your meal. The pork was just ok, but overall a very good dining experience.
Eat Good Melbourne
Sister restaurant to Palermo and San Telmo, Asado is the latest addition to the Argentinian group. Set amongst the romantic boardwalk of Southbank, you can’t miss the glowing red sign out front. The venue is a little more casual than Palermo but nonetheless, beautifully decorated. We ordered oysters, croquettes, ox tongue skewer, white anchovies, Brussels sprouts, pork and ribs. The oysters were very fresh and juicy. The croquettes were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The skewer had a really nice sauce over the top like a chimmichurri of sorts. The white anchovies were really interesting as they weren’t overly potent and yet full of flavour, balanced with some toasted bread and a creamy sauce. The ribs were beautifully cooked and well seasoned. Overall a perfect date night and would be great for groups too.

Awesome food and great atmosphere, the waitress we had was great and helped out with any queries we had. If you're into cocktails you must try the vermouth or the toddy. Absolutely amazing.

I got myself the breakfast combo, a well crafter egg and bacon bun with their freshly brewed latte.<br/>I went to Asadotogo which is just next to the main restaurant. It is basically your takeaway place if you are in a hurry and can’t spare time to sit in their amazing looking restaurant. <br/>I loved the sauce put on the bun and the bacon was perfectly cooked to my liking- not too soft and not too crispy and the latte had a nice strong kick it.<br/>The staff there was very friendly and i also loved the outer space. The seating is amazing for a cold day when the sun is out and then this combo would be the best on your to go list if you have 10mins to kill for your brekkie.<br/><br/>(Would soon try their main restaurant hopefully too.)

My friend felt like tapas but as in Melbourne everything is booked/full. We walked past Asado by the Yarra and thought why not? And we are so glad we did. Saturday night, we had no booking and manage to snag a table for 2. It looked pretty quiet but in fact there were many large groups in the private function areas. It actually got more busy towards 8pm onwards as we arrived around 7.<br/><br/>Service was impeccable as we were provided with the menus quickly (and later on unlimited refills of the salsa and chimichurri that was delicious).<br/><br/>We were overwhelmed by the menu as neither myself or my friend are experts at Spanish×Argentinian cuisine. So we went for the "feed me" in which the chef chooses 5 courses for us for $70 and 2 glasses of wine (they have a very large drinks menu).<br/><br/>They food was pretty immaculate, I honestly cannot remember the names of anything, but special shout outs to the smoke chargrilled steak, the black sausage, beef empanadas, potatoes and even the lettuce salad. The take home biscuit was amazing too. We honestly could not finish all our food because there was so much. The only let down (very average) was the tomatoes on toast tapas.<br/><br/>Ambience was lively, bright enough to see, nice music and leather everywhere (menus, chairs and placemats) so probably not a place to bring vegans or vegetarians maybe.<br/><br/>I would definitely come back.
GL
Went to Asado whit my partner for dinner, location was clean with good atmosphere and customer service was friendly and warm.<br/>We tried many dish, all the food was great , but some dish was another level, really impressed me the tartare and tongue skewer . <br/>This is was the last of San Telmo Family we tried and i have to say , all of them serve really good food, some of them they a bit overpriced for what the serve. But this is is one of the place where you can be sure quality of food is always good.

We love dining at Asado. The food is authentic an delicious. A huge shout out to an exceptional waiter Martín who is so good at what he does...he provides my husband and I with fantastic service every time we visit. The Argentinian cookie is the perfect way to finish off a beautiful meal at Asado.

Came here a few weeks ago with a group of mates. Now, as a group of blokes, you expect us to be pretty fussy about the meat we eat, its got to be done right, its got to be tender and taste great. I can say that Asado didn't disappoint, we ordered a series of different dishes and each one was pretty well spot on. It was cooked just as we asked, it was tender so that it melted in our mouths and the flavours where fantastic. Great job Asado!
Dani
The service was GREAT, friendly staff! The papas was from another world! The meat was a little bit burn (just for me) but tasty. The empanadas... OMG love it. I'd have to come back and go for the lamb one because there were sold out :(<br/>Dessert: alfajor and cheesecake with a vainilla cream! Perfect.
Stan
Food is abit Spanish and very Argentinian. Everything we ordered was delicious, the skirt steak was tender with a faint charred flavour. Starters were great especially the empanandas and the skewers. Service attentive and friendly.
Food For Thought
I'm so glad I finally found a wonderful steak restaurant in Southbank! The friendly staff made us feel very welcomed once we walked in. The rib eye steak served with limitless chimi churri and salsa, and the patatas (potatoes) bravas were definitely the highlights of our meal. Compared with San Telmo, I actually preferred Asado with the speed of service, the atmosphere and the generosity in serving size.
Theycallmemaggie
From the melt-in-the-mouth pastry of the empanadas filled with sensationally flavoursome fillings of either beef or sweetcorn+cheese to the silky fresh ceviche and beef tartare, the bar was set very high from the get go with these entrees and appetisers. Luckily, the main events featuring a selection of meats cooked over open flames also delivered with their succulent and juicy textures, quality bites and a beautiful char.
Burger Hunter
Unbelievabley amazing food and service. Got the Lomo, chorizo and a few empanadas. Everything cooked to perfection. The pinot noir and Melbac wines were a great recommendation too.
David Coe
Genuine Spanish feel to the food, tapas was reasonable with a good choice of veg and non veg options, Value proposition is okay but not outstanding.
MmmFood
Wonderful service, lovely food and a great atmosphere. We had two wonderful wait staff who were attentive, friendly and just made the whole thing amazing! As a last minute decision to book here and we were so happy. Definitely check it out!

What a wonderful culinary experience. We had a set menu which allowed us to sample many of the items on the menu. Truly a most amazingly delicious experience. Highly recommend you go for a special dinner...... well worth it.

Argetinian food with a spanish twist. A spanish centric secletion of beer and cocktails. Highlights were the beef tongue skewers, Empanadas and the spare ribs from the grill. The cod croquettes and cochinillo didnt do it for me. All and all the first experience was great, attentive service, good decor, quality dishes. Will be back to try the steaks and red wine next time.

Came here for a date night and we have been craving it ever since. Make a reservation if you plan on going because it gets full and you have to wait ages for a table. We had oysters, amazing. Empanadas were awesome too. Then the steaks, yum best steaks ever. Capsicum salad. And don’t leave without having a flan, best I’ve ever had even with the sore teeth from all the candy. Can’t wait to go back!!
Angel Khong
Asado served a variety of Argentinian bbq meats. We ordered a few of their tapas and grills; beef short ribs, empanada, charred baby octopus, and beef tongue skewer, as well as tres leches cake for dessert. The meats were of pretty good quality, and the savoury dishes came with a lot of condiments which nicely flavoured the rather plain grilled meats. Service was prompt and friendly, venue was new and modern. It was a nice place for both lunch and dinner.
Om Nom Nom
The food here is delicious! Service is friendly and professional, and the staff are knowledgeable about what the restaurant serves. The only complaint I have is that the portions are on the small side for the price, but it is a tapas restaurant so you're supposed to order more dishes than you normally would. I can't see it on the menu here but there was a capsicum sorbet thing in the desserts section that was absolutely AMAZING. Blew my mind with how the flavours worked, I would highly recommend trying that!
Dee Tuncer
This place was amazing. Beautiful coal bbq Argentian meat. We ordered the ox beef, chicken skewer and lamb enchilada for entree and then for mains we got the lamp and pork. The lamb was cooked beautifully and so juicy and suculant. The pork was also beautiful and cooked in an open fire with crispy skin on top and we had the zucchini as a side which was also delicious and it came with a nice creamy sauce with almonds and breadcrumbs. As usual I forgot to take all the photos as I get too excited to eat lol but I got a couple
CJ Helena
Attentive and knowledgeable staff and AMAZING food! Cannot recommend the carrots with goats curd enough! Any meat you pick will be amazing, and I can definitley tell you I'd go there only for the Chorizo. There was a lot of nodding towards each other as me and my fiancé went there to dine, words wasn't needed.<br/>We also went back a second time to celebrate my birthday there!
Carla
Unfortunately only went here for drinks and tapas before a show so didn’t get to experience the full luxury meat experience. But the oysters were lovely and the tapas beautiful, portions could have been somewhat larger (I was a bit surprised at the size of the boquerones) but lovely all the same. On the pricier side but worth it.
Quicksmart
First the positive - excellent flavours, good choice, super delicious apple crumble ice cream! Then the less positive, $5 for ONE empanada? Taking the mickey, two for $5 would be reasonable at best. That alone would put me off returning - bit of a shame to feel ripped off.
Veena Balakrishnan
This was the first time I tired Argentinian cuisine and I must say that the food was delicious and glad I came to this right place. My favourite was the chargrilled slow cooked pollo chicken with a side of chargrilled Brocoli salad. <br/>I relished the taste in my mouth for a long time and highly recommend this place if you want to try Argentinian food.
George
GREAT FOOD BUT AVERAGE SERVICE<br/>We went there on a Wednesday night and it wasn’t very busy. The food was really tasty and very well prepared. The service was not so good though. It took them a while to clear our plates. Also our sides came out well after one of the main meals. For these prices I wouldn’t go back.
Melb Foodie
Feels like they are following a formula for an Asado restaurant, but doesn’t quite work. The food was ok for the most part. Some better than ok and some worse. But the front of house staff were just off. The feel of the place was very awkward, not particularly friendly or welcoming, and not all that enjoyable. Left thinking we probably wouldn’t bother returning.
Denny Patron
Food 9/10<br/>Value 7/10<br/>Great flavours on pretty much every dish we had during our $110 a head set menu. Standouts were kingfish ceviche, provolone cheese, chorizo in the early stages, then the rib eye was beautiful, well cooked and very tasty. Cost was probably a bit rich at $110 a head and not a heap of food. Will be back but not for a set menu.
Birdman
I absolutely recommend a visit but advise against the $110 food banquet and it is shocking value for money. The food quality is excellent, highlights bring the empanadas, chorizo and the one steak we got was very tasty. Service was good but walked out of there still hungry after sharing one steak between 6 people... bit stingy by the restaurant I reckon.

Although our experience of dinning with Asado is strictly restricted to the pop-up outside Arts Centre, Melbourne, we chose to write a review here.<br/><br/>We loved to use of color that's gone into designing thos pop-up.<br/><br/>Ordered a Cheese Empanada, Lomito and Papas from this Argentinian / Spanish pop-up.<br/><br/>Everything was yummy and fresh. Beef was cooked perfect. Potatoes were beautifully fried and crisp. Cheese Empanada was so moist from inside and crisp from outside.<br/><br/>The only issue that we probably had (and mind you, it not actually a big issue) was that Lomito (grass-fed beef Sandwich) could have had some more dressing then usual.<br/><br/>Value for Money and very friendly staff.
Buy All The Fries!
Everything we ordered was delicious and service from Alejandro was great. The beef tartare was my favorite (covered in potato crisps in the photo). Had a very enjoyable experience!
Michan
I was reminded of San Telmo - great food, being steaks cooked to perfection, really succulent lamb and a good drinks list to boot. The sangrias are really yummy and perfect for balmy summer afternoons.
Mustard
Asado a predominately Argentinean restaurant focusing on just that, asado. It's got a few Spanish tapas/pintxos as well as other South American influences in their menu, but it's all about that meat hissing away on that parrilla. Like its counterpart San Telmo and Palermo there are a few popular items that can be found here and they are here for good reason, they're crowd pleasers.<br/><br/>They've got a good selection on Argentinean wines, the price is quite a significant mark up and I've had my fair share of Malbec when I was down there. Regardless the atmosphere here is dark with cow hides and wines adorning the walls and the parrilla in full display with an open kitchen. The pork roasting away hanging on some grating, only thing missing is a whole lamb on a cross. You even get to see the dry aging room before you walk into the restaurant, a feast for the eyes.<br/><br/>We start off with a few lengua, beef tongue skewers layered with chimichurri. I didn't know beef tongue could get so tender, this was really soft and had a nice smokey flavour imparted onto it. The chimichurri was quite herbaceous and gave it some brightness.<br/><br/>They were out of their special lamb empanadas so we stuck with beef which was a sound choice, filled with mince, olives and egg it was a hearty pocket with a few spices to bring some mild heat into play.<br/><br/>The white fish ceviche was lightly cured and did not overpower the fish. You've got the corn and pine nuts for crunch and a few slices of tangelo for some citrusy sweetness, nice vibrant dish.<br/><br/>We also got a chorizo which to be honest I thought was going to be larger for the given price point but it was delicious nonetheless. It was gushing with spicy fatty juices and had some nice charring to it.<br/><br/>For mains we went for the 500g O'Connor's premium dry aged pasture fed rib eye. Perfectly cooked, perfectly pink with all that beautiful fat rippling through the meat which imparted a lot of beefy flavour. It's one of the best steaks I've eaten in Melbourne. They did give us a couple of accompaniments, chimichurri and some type of salsa but really it was perfect in it's purest form.<br/><br/>We also had some of their roast pork which had been cooked over open fire, juicy white meat with a few shards of crackling thrown in. This benefited more from the sauces. As a side we got asparagus with cheese, almond and bread crumbs. The asparagus was soft and crisp with the almonds, all the ingredients just clung together and worked a treat.<br/><br/>For dessert we got some alfajores which had 2 shortbreads and dulce de leche squeezed in between. It crumbled with eat bite to reveal a sticky sweetness aliken to caramel. We also got the tres leches which translates to 3 milk, in this case 3 milk sponge cake. It had some familiar pairings such as strawberries and cream with some popping from the freeze dried berries. What makes this unique is the red pepper sorbet which on its own is quite confusing and there were some blank stares that night. Combined however it slowly came together, it's an acquired taste and worthy of trying.<br/><br/>Overall fantastic spot and can be overlooked as it is not directly on the main strip. They didn't take any shortcuts here and I was pretty happy with the ambience and food. The food had great pacing but there were a couple of times we didn't get as much attention as you'd expect due to the servers being overloaded, that being said another waiter (possibly manager) saw that we needed our table cleared and rushed over to help out.<br/><br/>I'm glad these guys are around, they're really making an impact on the South American dining scene in Melbourne which is mostly underrepresented and gives me warm nostalgic vibes.<br/>

Absolute cracker of a place! Tucked just off the main walk, Asado hit many highs throughout the night. Funny and attentive waiter opened the evening with some friendly banter. We ate all of the small plates and a handful of the tapas type style too. Grilled octopus was a highlight, as was the ceviche fish. Chicken skewers popped off the plate and the empanadas were delicious! We had Blade steak, Rib Eye and the pork; each were absolutely lovely. <br/>Thought so highly of this place that I will definitely be back for another go at it!! Get there!

My favourite meat restaurant at the moment! I want to go back and have everything else in the menu!!!!!<br/><br/>Originally planned to go to San Telmo, but with me completely forgetting to actually book it in it got booked out. On the website however it kindly suggested their sister restaurants Palermo and Asado which are also Argentinian Grills. Asado it was.<br/><br/>First of all - location is very convenient! Southbank right across the bridge from Flinders st station, right next to Southgate. <br/><br/>As you are walking towards to entrance you are passing the window display of all the different cuts that were being aged right there, and the smell of something amazing hits your nose and you know you are up for a treat here! (see one of the videos)<br/><br/>The warmest greeting from staff as we are welcomed and escorted to our table. Talking of staff - most are from Spain, South America, France, all extremely helpful, and passionate about their food (and quite handsome!! 🤫😂) <br/><br/>The decor is definitely a steak house, in your face! Love it! Cow skin on the walls, on the menu covers, drinks menu made of soft leather, suckling pig hanging in the open kitchen being slowly roasted, proper steak knives with Asado logo - all says - we know our meat! <br/><br/>Now to the food: <br/>We had few starters, 3 mains and couple sides. <br/>🔸Jamon Iberico - top notch!!!! The smell, taste and lingering oiliness of acorns in jamon was beautiful and very pronounced. Nom nom nom 🤤 <br/>🔸 Beef tartare was the most beautiful I have ever tasted (and I have had a lot both here and in France). It came with marinated little mushrooms (enoki style, but probably not!) with zingy anchovy mayo served with crispy potato chips to scoop it up. The taste, texture and freshness all together worked amazingly! <br/>🔸Grilled Beef tongue with Chimichurri. Braised for a day, then slow cooked for 12 hours, then thinly sliced and grilled on super hot coals, served with flavoursome Chimichurri sauce. It was exquisite. So tender, with lovely caramelisation. I definitely recommend to everyone, and especially those who have never tried tongue and are cautious. It doesn’t taste like offal at all!!! Just delicious!<br/><br/>🔸Now on to mains: we had suckling pig, and also lamb and steak from the parilla - Argentinian coal grill. Ok, PLEASE try the pig!!! It was melting in mouth! Didn’t know it was physically possible till that day with pork. Woah!! <br/><br/>Both lamb and steak were simply amazing as well. But steak is steak. THESE ones were Pretty Damn good though!! Both lamb and beef came out perfectly medium rare, slightly on the rare side, which was perfect for me and were amazingly tender and full of flavour of both the actual meat and the coals of parilla.<br/><br/>And lastly couple sides that deserve a mention in their own right: <br/>🔸Artichoke hearts with grilled onion, garlic and tomatoes - I could just eat it by itself!!! (I actually didn’t adjust that photo, it looked THAT good!) <br/>🔸And their signature dish- roasted Brussel sprouts topped with Manchego cheese - flavour overload!! <br/><br/>Papas bravas were good too, but that’s to be expected. <br/><br/>We have not tried deserts at all, too full. There were still few more things on the menu to try so we shall definitely be back. <br/>So if you are looking to have a great night night with some good meat to go along with your good red - give that place a go for sure!!! <br/>

Had a delicious meal at Asado last week. Massive open space with good atmosphere. Food was top notch. Definitely rivals San Telmo. Between 3, we ordered the salted cod croquettes, the kingfish ceviche, the cuttlefish with romesco, the grilled provolone, the flank steak and the brussel sprouts with manchego cream. Everything was fantastic but for me the Provolone and the brussel sprouts were a major highlight.

Asado lives up the expectations which its sister restaurants San Telmo and Palermo have set for it. We went to Asado after we couldnt get into San Telmo or Palermo having dined at them before. The food is just so wonderfully tasty, a real treat! The meat is better than some specialty steak restaurants in the city, and the sides sophisticated and delicious. Make sure you leave room for dessert - not to be missed!! Service fantastic of course.

The folks behind San Telmo, Pastuso and Palermo have opened a new restaurant in Southbank, Asado. It takes what works at those venues – tasty South American food, and puts its own spin on things. The food here is contemporary Argentinean, with a focus on Argentina’s Spanish influenced dishes and flavours.

My advice is arrive hungry. Seriously the food is rich and punchy. It's hard not to get carried away and over order. There was not one dish that we didn't love. Even the side dish of Brussels sprouts was amazing, yes amazing!<br/><br/>I will try to order less less time as we left far too full and couldn't finish what we we ordered. But boy did we try and had a great time doing so.

Was so excited to try this new restaurant in Melbourne. Definitely did not leave disappointed. To begin, I was greeted by the friendly staff upon arrival. Throughout the dinner they were so lovely and helpful in regards to the menu and in recommending what dishes to order. Every dish we had I devoured and loved. The steak was definitely the highlight matched with the carrots paired with goats cheese and pine nuts. You cannot leave without trying their desserts. My favourite was the flan! Can't wait to try Asado again.

It's a new restaurant and so we thought we'll give it a try without making a booking. Luckily it's a large space and many tables available on a weeknight at 6:30.  The place did fill up quickly though. The menu was covered in animal skin, and the place-mats was also leather. So it's probably not the best place for vegetarians.  We didn't know what to order so asked the waiter for recommendation. He said the flank steak and the skirt steak, which was really tasty. We also had the pork, which came with some crackling. I also enjoyed the sauces/salsa that came with the meal.

We started with bread (pan con tomate) which was nice. The white fish ceviche was not outstanding, but still good. Chorizo was really exceptional - in flavour & in taste. We had a flank steak, a skirt steak & the suckling pig, with roasted brussel sprouts & char-grilled carrots as sides. The meats were all marvellous & cooked nicely.  The Sangria was special & worth mentioning.<br/>(Food - 5/5; Service - 4.5/5; Ambience - 4/5)<br/>Visited on 26 September 2018

I've been wanting to try the food here since it opened about a month ago. Everyday on my way to work I would walk past thinking I need to pop in for lunch. Then I saw they have now opened a take-away food area so in I went.<br/><br/>I had the steak sandwich with was on a soft ciabatta type roll. The steak was diced into small strips which were cooked medium and perfectly tender. There was a hint of diced pickles, lettuce, tomato and a horshradish mayo which topped it off perfectly.<br/><br/>A bloody top line steak sandwich in my opinion. I will be coming back to dine in very shortly!

I went to Asado during their soft opening and they served a set menu which consisted of toasted bread with tomato, empanadas, ceviche, chorizo, steak, salad, chips and Argentine cookie. The food was delish and decently priced. I was charmed by the ambience, food, service and the outlook of the restaurant. My friend and I ordered drinks at the bar and we were entertained by the bartender putting on a show making the drinks. The only let down was the Argentine cookie which tasted too sweet.

Yay to Asado Bar and Grill opening on Southbank. It was quite busy for a Tuesday night on it’s first week of opening. Service was excellent and loved hearing the sounds of the Spanish language/accents from wait staff and background noise.<br/> <br/>We decided to try the tapas to sample a variety of dishes. We started with the Empanadas - Beef, green olive & boiled egg and Sweetcorn, manchego, and Spanish peppers. Then onto the salted cod Croquetas, Chorizo, Zanahorias (Chargrilled carrots, pumpkin seeds, goats curd, black cabbage cream), Polpo (octopus with squid ink mayo) and Beef Ribs. Everything was delicious and full of flavour.<br/> <br/>Next came dessert and we tried the chocolate mousse with chocolate fondant and raspberry jam and the Flán - Dulce de leche crème caramel and salted peanut praline. The desserts were not the stand out dishes of the evening and don’t even bother with the cheese platter. Cheese platter was over priced with not much on it at all. I suggest you stick to the main dishes. We finished off with coffee and this was a great end to the evening. Definitely worth a visit.<br/><br/>I look forward to trying Asado to go takeaway section.

Newly open and it tells somewhat in the incomplete menu offering and few minor service issues.<br/>A nice space (unless you’re vegetarian) with leather bound menus and cow hide wall coverings<br/>Food was ok but having travelled extensively throughout Latin America, it was somewhat lacking.

Stumbled across this newly opened restaurant and was absolutely left with a satisfied appetite! Staff were very accommodating and easy to approach if needed. Ambience reflected well and truly the essence of Asado. Definitely worth a try if you are up for a fusion of Argentinian/Spanish cuisine.
