Their food were super delicious! Especially the massaman curry and the prikking crispy pork! Loved it so much. So flavorful and delicious! The one dish i did not fully enjoy was the red duck curry. It was a little too salty for me. But the duck meat was cooked nicely!
I've walked past Isan Soul so often when visiting the CBD thinking I should try it out. Spoilt by choices I just didn't feel like Thai on that particular day. I know times are tough especially for the hospitality industry. By pure chance a social media post by Isan Soul popped up and I hadn't made my weekly meal plan yet so I decided to give their delivery service a shot. The menu isn't as extensive compared to some of the other Thai restaurants but everything I ordered was above average albeit being takeaway. How good must the food be when dining in?
Ordering process via WhatsApp is somewhat unusual but it worked. Great service, prompt response, accommodating to dietary requirements.
And on top great sets on offer. The Classic Set is what I settled on. $59 feeds 2-3 containing 2x fishball skewers, 1x tom yum seafood (with surprisingly great quality seafood!), 1x yellow curry soft shell crab (reheat the soft shell crab in an air fryer), 1x crispy pork with Chinese broccoli, 1x large steamed rice, 1x large coconut rice and 2x coconut pudding).
Plus some complimentary prawn crackers, which were my least favourite.
Everything else was incredibly mouthwatering and delicious. I'd highly recommend giving their delivery service a shot. There was no delivery fee and I'm approx. 20km away. So thanks to the team at Isan Soul. I'll definitely be ordering again!
This place reminds me of eating in a little cosy eatery on Bangkok. With the rustic decorations and charms around the seating area.
We tried their curry and i was really happy with it. When i think of a green curry there should be a balance of flavours and spices and they have just that.
Really enjoyed it and the other dishes on their menu is good too. The crispy pork belly with chinese brocolli is another favourite
Absolutely loved the ambiance and the food here! The coconut rice was delicious and both the dishes we got were great. Loved that the dish as such wasn't spicy but we were given chillies on the side.
Everyone's temperature was checked before being seated to ensure covid safety. Our details were also recorded conforming to safetly regulations.
Will definitely be heading back! :)
š±Lizzieās first impression: loved the concept of an open window which turns the restaurant into an open area. Such good vibes and very lively especially during warmer days - I tried the food and it was absolutely delicious.
š©Lizzie enjoyed: the pad Thai was such a large portion and the noodles were made perfectly. The chicken ribs were crispy yet didnāt make the chicken too dry.
The curry had such a nice creamy texture and kept me coming back for more with my roti and rice - delicious!!
It even had a few pieces of sweet potato that was grilled first.
The stand out was the steamed fish with a Tom yum soup as a base - it was really well flavoured and cooked just right - the fish meat fell straight off and the Tom yum soup really had a nice punch of chilli to it - highly recommend for those who like spicy things!
Lastly I tried the coconut icecream served in a real coconut with some glutinous purple rice - it was devine and everything I wanted in a dessert.

š„Lizzie rates overall: I love this place so much - literally one of my favourite Thai restaurants in the heart of the CBD! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Food was amazing, restaurant had a nice decorative decor and service was good. Fun spot for a date
Surprisingly good Thai food in a cosy spot that's bustling with activity. From the ample menu, we chose red duck curry and soft shell crab.
Generous serves of both arrived and we wondered how the two of us would eat all this. The duck was juicy and so tender, immersed in a rich broth. The crab was coated in various spices and bursting with flavour.
Melbourne's gastronomy scene regularly produces such tasty dishes, spoiling our tastebuds to become accustomed to great food. Service was fast and friendly in this quirky place, hosting a collection of vintage artefacts from my grandparents' era. Worth returning.
Very delicious food.
Ambience 10/10
Food 10/10

Cost 6/10
Saturday night really busy quick service and quick food Red Curry duck great . Griiled beef great Seafood awesome. Come enjoy
Cool Thai restaurant which offers up some good dishes. Average dish price varies from ,$12 - $20. Upstairs and downstairs, don't have to wait too long to be served. Quick service, had the crispy pork and vegetables for $14 and the red duck curry $18. My dish was a bit too spicy and portion size could of been a bit bigger. Red duck curry had meat still on the bone. It didn't blow me away, but still a good time. Would come back again.
Nice atmosphere. Pleasant staff.
Food was pretty good.
Tom yum seafood was on the spicier side than normal, could add a bit more seafood into the soup.
Red duck curry was delicious with the coconut rice.
If only they had desserts too.
Great food and atmosphere. Misses out on the 5 stars as the seating was slightly too tight and waiters and other customers kept bumping into us. Duck salad was really good - star of the show
The āfirst timeā I dined in there was amazing!
Crying tiger was the most tender grilled beef Iāve ever tried. Dipping sauce also matches well! Quite strong taste but I love it!
Tom yum soup was great with lots of seafood ingredients. Even my bf (who doesnāt like Tom yum) loved it.
Chicken pad Thai was big portion and taste great, a bit spicier than other places but I loved it.
However, we went back for 2nd and 3rd time, something changed. The portion, the taste..
Less ingredients in Tom yum, 2 big prawns became few small shrimps.
Less portion for pad Thai..
But crying tiger and grilled pork neck still taste good.. hopefully I can taste same quality of food next time I visit there.
Popular Thai restaurant in the heart of the city with interesting decor. Gets very busy on most days for both lunch and dinner. Worth the wait though, the dishes we tried are quite nice.
A very busy eatery in CBD even on a Monday evening. Ordered red duck curry, papaya salad and soft shell crab curry, all were delicious. The red duck curry was still quite spicy even though the waitress described as mild. The soft shell crab was on the sweeter side. The black sticky rice was interesting but probably not best with curry. Happy to have ticked this place off the list.
The restaurant has a compact seating plan as the tables are very close to each other. You will overhear every conversation around you while dining here. It also has an impact on airborne disease spreading considering this place is usually packed.
Some dishes on the menu will be "sold out" every day. You probably need some luck to have the dishes that are not popular. It is a little pricey considering the food portion is small. Here are the dishes I had so far.
Red Duck Curry
Fried duck drumette dip in red curry with long beans, sliced eggplant, diced pineapple, and lychee. The duck drumette was fried to bring out its fatty flavor, paired with mild red curry while lychee and pineapple added some fruity flavor to the dish.
Hot Basil with Diced Chicken
They once ran out of minced chicken, so they made this dish with diced chicken instead. It turned out I was lucky as the dish made with diced chicken was way much better than the minced chicken version. It was savory and a little spicy. The chicken was tender and moist, paired with the aroma of Thai basil while chopped long beans added some freshness to it. Unfortunately, they don't make the dish with diced chicken on request. Hope they will do so in the future.
Crispy Pork with Chinese Broccoli
A staple dish in Thai cuisine inspired by Chinese stir-fry. The main ingredient was Chinese broccoli while crispy pork and chili enriched the taste.
Tom Yum Seafood
Soup with various seafood including mussels, squids, prawns, and fish slices, flavored with bay leaves, lemongrass, chili, coriander, and mushrooms. The broth was spicy and sour, with a sweet finish. It was kind of spicy that would gradually numb your tongue.
Massaman Beef Curry
Beef chunks in massaman curry with cashews and coriander. The curry was sweet while beef chunks were a little chewy.
Soft Shell Crab in Curry Powder Sauce
Fried soft shell crab covered in curry powder sauce with tiny egg swirls, paired with various vegetables including onions, baby corns, mushrooms, coriander, and flat beans. The curry powder sauce was dry compared with other curries on the menu. It was a little spicy. This dish is more like a snack that goes well with drinks.
Hot Basil with Minced Chicken
The normal version of the dish. The chicken was overcooked. It was dry and a little bouncy while losing most texture compared with the diced chicken version. The dish tasted salty with sharpened spiciness due to overcooking. However, it goes well with rice.
The Red Duck Curry is a must-try while the Crispy Pork with Chinese Broccoli is the choice of stir-fried vegetable here. I will recommend the Hot Basil with Chicken if they can make it with diced chicken. Coconut Rice features the fragrance of coconut milk. It is the perfect pair with dishes although the rice is usually served last after the dishes.
Amazing Thai Place with excellent food, a cozy atmosphere and funky decor. It's some of the best Thai food I have ever tasted and it was extremely affordable (just over $60 for more than enough food for four). The staff were extremely friendly, approachable and super helpful. Despite the restaurant looking relatively busy, all of our food came out in less than 15 minutes after ordering. The decor made the place feel like a truly authentic Thai restaurant.
My friends and I ordered the chicken pad thai, veggie green curry and seasonal vegetable stir fry (plus a few bowls of coconut rice and some pumpkin skewers) and we were blown away by how delicious the food was! Honestly, the coconut rice was so delicious that we would have been content eating it by itself. The chicken pad thai was a highlight along with the green curry which was so yummy (even though it was pretty spicy).
Overall, I highly recommend coming here and trying the dishes I had as they were all spectacular!
