In my circles Shirazz is a lunch staple, bordering on an institution. The express thali or the premium thali are all you need and more for a proper sit down, restaurant quality lunch (along with a mango lassi or kingfisher beer of course).
The express thali comes with two separate curries of your choice, along with yogurt and naan. The premium comes with three curries, plus an onion bajji. The maharaja is a different kettle of fish altogether - this is the nuclear option only for special occasions! You will be full whichever option you choose.
Coming after dark is also very good, which is a much more varied menu, and at a higher price point (but high quality).
For a poky part of the CBD filled with sterile and uninspiring eating options, Shirazz is an oasis in the proverbial desert.
Great new Indian restaurant in city with traditional Indian dishes tasty and not too saltish. Great wine list but may need more staff for the number of tables at restaurant
Not many options in the menu so you’d think the food would be fantastic. Slightly disappointed as it tasted very normal to what you’d find in a food court. We got the lamb roganjosh and the vegetable frez and the naans. The portion is small for the price. Lamb was a bit salty to my liking.
The ambience is good though. Pretty quiet for a lunch on a weekday.
What an great find!! Slightly tucked away and easy to miss on William St. This restaurant offered good quality Indian food. The rice options were particularly good (esp. the Zehra rice) and very generous in serving. The curry sauces were tasty, dense and creamy as you would hope in a good curry. The lamb we had was a little dry, but chicken and eggplant was tenderly soft and moist. Will be back again!!
Very nice place, very good ambience and food was awesome very tasty. Really enjoyed and must recommend to enjoy the delicious food 🍲. Staff is very friendly and polite.
Opted for premium Thali on Friday lunch. The butter chicken and veg Kofta Curry were good. Didn’t quite like the Lamb Roganjosh. Overall good food. Service was quick despite rush.
Good but a bit pricy. Portion sizes were a bit on the small end. Decor and atmosphere was pretty good. Random fun fact, the bathroom is 3 floors down in the basement area so if you have weak knees, go to the loo beforehand.
First the good news: It's not a stall in a food court! Yay! We had given up hope of finding a real restaurant that serves good Indian food in the CBD. Shiraaz is just that and we had very nice standard North Indian dinners in a pleasant surrounding, quiet and with real tables and real table cloths. A revelation in this city loaded with food courts. Very pleasant service
Excellent Indian restaurant in the CBD, friendly and fast service and delicious food. I highly recommend the Beef Vindaloo as the best I've had in Melbourne. Their house red is also surprisingly drinkable. My wife isn't big on spicy food but loves their Butter Chicken. Usually, I can count on being able to polish off half her food if I'm feeling particularly peckish but at this place she never fails to finish the entire meal. Actually, thinking about it from a purely selfish viewpoint, maybe that is a bad thing and I should deduct a star!
I visited the alongside my friend, he was the one who suggested the place and as i was a tourist i followed. The place serves good Indian food almost as close as the one you get in India. Butter chicken stole my heart and I would definitely recommend it to everyone visiting the place. The service was quick and food was hygienic . Do give the place a try
Loved the food here - the place is also quiet and nice, although there is no music, it is perfect for intimate conversation and relaxing. Service was also polite and with smiles. We ordered the beef vindaloo and lamb badam korma and they were absolutely delicious. The beef vindaloo was the spiciest on the menu and boy did it hit the spot! Portions were also good with a lot of meat which was impressive, as some places are a bit stingy with their meat portions. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for nice Indian food in a quiet, relaxed setting.
Came here with the team for Xmas lunch. We enjoyed the banquet of chicken tikka, butter chicken, rogan josh with lamb, daal and malai kofta.
The serving sizes were very generous on point with spices and very delicious too.
Been here a few times and had a very enjoyable and tasty lunch. The express menus provide good value and tasty food. The service was generally pretty good. Will be happy to return. Really enjoyed it. (would rate it 4.5 stars)
First time I’ve had Indian and it was delicious! The samosas were fried but not overly oily. We got the express Dahl and it was great value for money without compromising on taste. Naan bread always a winner! (4.5 stars)
Staff were all very friendly and attentive, our wonderful waitress didn't even need to write down our fairly large order and everything came out correctly as ordered.
Shame the curries weren't as good as the service, we ordered vindaloo and kofta. We both felt the vindaloo focussed on heat and had little flavour, unfortunately the kofta were inedible and revolting they tasted like stale bread and the sauce was like pure plain cream. Naan was actually very nice one of the better Naan I've had around the city.
Sat night i was dinner in shiraaz i felt very happy and excellent service i ordered paneer tikka as aentree the taste was very good as well as main course the restaurant environment was nice i recommand all my friends thanks for service👍🏻
I came here today with 3 of my colleagues for lunch and ordered the Express Thali where you get to pick 2 dishes out of the express menu. I picked the Rohan josh (lamb) with paneer makhani (spiced cottage cheese). The dish also came with rice and freshly made nan bread. It was so good that I finished them all. I can’t fault the service. The lady was very attentive. I think I am coming back to try other dishes. On top of that, we got 20% off using the Eat Club voucher! We would be back again for our next lunch gathering.
After being permanently scarred by a horrid experience at an Indian Restaurant in Melbourne CBD three years ago, I've been afraid of visiting any Indian restaurants within the city since then. However, this evening, I was exhausted and as my friend is on a restricted food diet (no gluten, low carbs, no lentils, no lutein), I didn't want to make his life too difficult and agreed to go to a place of his choice. I was shocked by his choice for Shiraaz and we know Indians are big on carbs. When we arrived, he told me had been here six years ago with a big group of Indians and had loved it - this is when he wasn't on a diet.
We were provided complimentary pappadum as we sat down on the customary white paper tablecloth seats facing a full bar with wooden panelling. The restaurant only had two other patrons and despite being large in size, was quite empty. It is housed on the corner of Wiliams and Flinders St just adjacent to a large old building. The staff are impeccably dressed. Their drinks menu is massive, but we decided to stick with some fancy "Purezza" sparkling water as we enjoyed our pappadums with some delicious mint chutney (really refreshing - not the usual sweet yoghurt watery flavoured) and tamarind chutney (nice and thick not the usual watery and delicately sweet rather than drowning in diabeetus).
The papaddums were also crispy, tasted fresh rather than the stale oil taste you become accustomed to from years of Indian restaurant experience.
We ordered the palak paneer, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan and the chicken biryani (not on the menu). Each dish was spectacular. The palak paneer had the right amount of spinach (not bitterness), creaminess and butteriness (without it being too heavy and giving you delhi belly) with tender and plentiful pieces of paneer.
The chicken tikka masala had a medium amount of spice. Chicken was juicy and tender. There were lots and lots of pieces. Had a tomato gravy. Again not creamy or buttery as expected. And unlikely to sit heavy in your stomach like a large rock.
The garlic naan was not too thick. Well cooked. Lots of fresh garlic. Nice and buttery and served at the right temperature.
My friend inhaled his chicken biryani which arrived with some complimentary delicious boondi raita.
Large portion sizes. Quick service. And great value where two mains, rice, naan and a drink cost $69. And we were full and satisfied.
Well, finally a taste absolutely close to the authentic Indian cuisine. I ordered chicken Tikka Masala and kadhai chicken with bread (naan). First, both curries tasted very nice but my pick is the Tikka Masala. Second the naans, even though I ordered the plain ones, were quite soft and moist. Third, the portions were satisfactory. I would definitely recommend this place.
We visited this place to celebrate my Mom's birthday and were really happy to have Indian food on our trip to Australia. The staff was very courteous and we never had a feeling that we were in a different nation. Food was amazing , Rogan Josh was a bit spicy but one must give it a try. Kebabs and curries served here are authentic without any alterations made to the spices. I was really happy to eat real Indian food as although there are many Indian restaurants in Melbourne but they somehow try to make food less spicy so that customers from other nationality can have it.
good place for a nice and quite meal !! the place is generally a easy option for a relaxed meal ! stand out options are chicken grill, chilly chicken , chilly paneer , jeera. rice and peas pulav are good rice picks , rotis and nans with dal , lamb roghan Ghosh are nice . desert options are rasmalai and Jamoon which are a good end !
Pretty good price for a fine dining experience. Shiraaz Fine Indian has a wide variety of curry specialties and a well-tailored drinks menu as well. Love the attentive service, the ambience and definitely the food! The curries were not too oily (which is a big plus because a lot of the Indian places I've been too are very buttery or oily). The meats were cooked deliciously and all the flavours were in balance. Highly recommend if you're keen to try Indian food for your next dinner 👍
Fanatic place for Indian food. The staff were absolutely friendly, polite and extremely attentive. Food was divine and super cheap considering it’s a fine dining restaurant. A lot of options and definitely a place to check out but only on an empty stomach!
I had dinner there with my family. The food was really awesome. It’s a lovely place to dine in with soft music. Had palak paneer and arbi do piaza and it was delicious. Enjoyed a lot. Would highly recommend this place.
very nice indian restrorent food is realy tasty.friendly staff.restrorent neat and clean. just a good place for romantic dinner.and the music is rly peacful
Ambience 5
Staff and experience 4.5
Food, well everything I tried was worth coming back for 5
I tried paneer tikka achari for starters main course garlic naan and malai kofta (it's really good) and then dessert rasmalai...even though my husband loved it I think rasmalai did not impress me much, my personal feedback to shiraaz would be please add some more options for desserts! Overall it was a good experience but there were times no one was there to attend us so 4.5 and not 5
I’ve been here for a couple of times and service was very good. Moreover food was really good. I and my girl had butter chicken and biryani and we really liked it. And really good hospitality from manager yash. I want to go there again.
I visit this place few days ago with my family . My mom and dad specially came Melbourne .Everything was so awesome about this is plcae. Ambience was great. I can say this is the best food in melboune.staff was very enthusiastic and specially thanks to Mr Yashpreet Singh for providing me the best service.
One Of The Very Nice Fine Dine Restaurants in the city of Melbourne
Very Close to Crown Casino at The corner of Williams street
The Ambience is Quiet and Decent with Very Friendly and courteous staff.
The ingredients used are fresh and they make to order as per mild medium or spicy as per your taste buds.
They give complimentary Papad and Chutney.
The Paneer Makhani and Dal Maharaja is a must try as this Indian Restaurant.
The Masala Butter milk topped with Chaat Masala on Request was cherry on the cake.
The Garlic Naan and butter naan was crispy
Service From Mr Yash Singh is a kind hearted man and an excellent Host.
Would Highly recommend to try this restaurant in Melbourne
Last week i just came at shiraaz for dinner with my friends. It was really a great experience. Very co-operative manager , fast service , good waiting staff and best quality of food. Must visit this restaurent. Highly appreciated.
Amazing ambiance, friendly and corporative staff, delicious food😋😋
Can't wait to visit again.
Totally worth it. It's a must have recommended place to every tourist and local people.
Food was amazing! Staff were really friendly. Great value for money. Only 5-10 min from my hotel across the bridge. Easy to find near the immigration museum.
Any place that serves food that also has a variety of wine in its name is off to a good start as far as Your Dear Luncher is concerned.
The Dear Luncher has sampled Indian food far and wide. From Ormond to Brick Lane. In the old days The Dear Luncher’s stomach was unaccustomed to this food, but nowadays The Dear Luncher is like a whale, just about anything can end up in his guts and there is full cooperation. In the olden days, a particular Brick Lane curry created havoc inside The Dear Luncher, but that story is not for now.
Shiraaz is a very tidy space with comfortable seats. It’s amazing how much a comfortable seat will make a difference when dining. The service is friendly and attentive without being over-bearing. All boxes ticked on that front.
Thali is the main dish pushed via the menus and they come in a few different varieities. The one that appealed most was the Premium thali. With three curries (malai kofta, rogan josh and chicken korma) served with rice, naan, raita and a vegetable pakora. Plenty going on there. This is well worth the $19 expenditure. Despite The Dear Luncher being a meat fiend it was actually the malai kofta that provided the most enjoyment. This is not to say the other two were substandard, they were also enjoyed. All three were fragrant, zesty and exactly what The Dear Luncher has come to expect from any half decent Indian restaurant in Australia. The raita had some subtle egg tones to it, and was great for dipping the naan, the meats and the pakora.
For $6.5 a glass of the Prickly Moses ale washed it all down with aplomb. The only not so great part about this experience was the naan bread. It was a tad flaky, breaking up a little too much. Other than that, a real winner of a destination for the city slicker looking to satisfy that Indian food craving.
All the crazy Indian food lovers must definitely visit this place. Nice ambience and excellent service. Good taste and variety. Must try Butter chicken, chicken biryani.
Had amazing food at this restaurant. Loved the aloo chana tikka and prawn jalfrazi. It was just delicious. I thoroughly recommend Shiraaz for great Indian cuisine. Great staff and service.
I have been to shiraaz fine dine with my friends. The food was good. I really enjoy it. Best place to get indian food in melbourne. I really recommend people to visit shiraaz to enjoy best indian food in melbourne.
Very nice place and good food and service i will definitely back again good service my friends and family enjoy the dinner mango lassi was very tasty
Shiraz fine dine Indian restaurant is the perfect place to spend your evenings. I had dinner here quite a few times and it never failed to leave a smile on my face. I would suggest you all to try Bhindi masala , tadka dal , black dal with cheese or garlic naan here. This restaurant also has broad range of wines, spirits and cocktails. The staff here offer fast service and also is very friendly. You can just go here once , the food will compel you to visit this restaurant again and again.
Went with a group of freinds to celebrate my birthday.Food was very delicious well balanced and tasty .Chilli paneer masala and palak paneer is awesme .Must try lacha parantha 👌Service and ambience very nyc and warm to celebrate ur special day😍
Must try!!! The food is really delicious and the service is also appreciable...seekh kebabs ginger lamb cutlets are mouthwatering...and the patiala goat curry chilli paneer masala chicken lababdar are must try curries...and even garlic naan and keema and cheese naan are awesome...the staff working in is friendly and polite...ambience is also nice...so overall again...is a must try restaurant...cheers!!! :)
Awesome food# excellent service#best indian food in Melbourne# highly recommended #prices are also genuine$ lamb cutlets and garlic ma'am was really awesome # partiala goat curry I never try it bofore
I remember Shiraaz from a friend who suggested it as the best Indian "fine dining" restaurant in Melbourne, that was two years back. Finally I made up my mind to give them a visit. They are ideally located in the quieter part of CBD. On the first look they definitely can be counted in the Indian restaurants with best ambience. Have been there twice now and the food has been consistently good.
For the first time we had chicken tikka, paneer tikka, lamb cutlet for entree. Only the Lamb cutlets turned out to be impressive. Having eaten in the best of the best restaurants in India, this comparison may not be fair, but we are comparing one of the finest of Melbourne then. The complimentary poppadoms served was a nice gesture, served with two chutnies, green coriander-mint chutney and sweet tamarind chutney. Was surprised to find the green chutney to be sweet and thin, was expecting it to be tangier The choice of drinks were above expectations from an Indian restaurant, besides the usual suspects on tap they have the famous indian kingfisher beer with decently priced whiskies. After the entrees, we weren't sure about the main course, so ordered some extra dishes to cover up any surprises. But we were proved absolutely wrong. Was difficult to choose the best one out of the four dishes, daal makhani, chickpea curry, patiala goat curry and eggplant-potato curry. Every dish was different yet very balanced and can be compared to any authentic restaurant in India. Highly recommend the patiala goat curry and daal makhani. Parantha and garlic naan were pretty good too, the flaky parantha went very well with all the dishes.
Upon finishing we were asked for a review and we honestly told them everything, Was good of them to positively accept the feedback and promise to overcome the shortcomings.
So after about a month we again had our craving for Indian food and the first choice was "Shiraaz", so we headed back. We were quite surprised to see how well they have taken our feedback and improved themselves. The floor staff had much more warmth. For entrees we again choose lamb cutlets as they stand out the best last time and Chana Tikki as a new item, the chana tikki turned out to be a great entree for vegetarians, humble looking, but full of flavours, the hearty chana filling gave it a very nice texture. A bit less starch in the potato will make it almost perfect. The green chutney was thicker this time with lessened sweetness, well done !! Didn't try any more starters this time. No need to say anything about the main course, it's already their strong point.
So, once again comparing them with the decent Indian restaurants in India, I can very well say they are no less in the main course, need some improvement on the entrees, I would highly recommend "Shiraaz" to all who want to have a quiet relaxed evening over awesome Indian food.
One more suggestion, we felt that the lighting could be toned down a bit to give it a more cosy feeling.
Nice Indian restaurant. I found its pricier than some of the other Indian restaurants I've been to. The garlic naan was one of the best I've tried though. The curries (even vegetarian) were around $18. I ordered the chill masala and it was actually spicy! I found service to be a little slow so make sure you are coming here when you are not busy. The real value for money here are the drinks - cocktails are $11 and glasses of wine start at $8!
Got a chance to get here for lunch with a company of my friends and the experience was fabulous...was greeted warmly on the entrance and was well served with a great hospitality...despite being busy the food came on time and was superb. Will recommend to all...must try...cheers🥂🍻
I came here with a friend of mine on Friday night. The food was top notch and service impeccable. The ambience was really welcoming which added to the overall dining experience.! Will surely recommend.
It says it's fine Indian and it damn well is. Some of the best butter chicken I've had in my time (and I've spent plenty of my time eating butter chicken). As fitting with 'fine dining' it's a little more expensive than your average Indian restaurant but still reasonable given the ambiance. It's actually quite classy inside and a bit of a date night venue. Very pleased to have stumbled on this as it's not often I go with the flow and just eat at something nearby. There will be many more planned trips to Shiraaz in the future
One of the best indian food had well flavored and service good too
I had lunch and was satisfied with all aspect!! Love it see you really soon!
Indian food is good and tasty. The food was served well .but the service could be faster. Serving the desert at lunch time took more than 20 mins.
The best food ever with a very pleasant staff. Authentic Indian food, very nice location. But do take prior reservation as they could be very busy some days.
Pros: Good food. The Palak Paneer is a must try. I prefer the breads as opposed to the rice at this place.
Cons: they need to invest in staff training. Also, getting to the toilets is an adventure by itself.
Had lunch there, they had a great range of thalis, lots of choice. The curries were tasty, tender meat, I had handi lamb and beef vindaloo. Good value, nice decor and the staff were helpful.
This place is great, well balanced flavor & you can actually taste the actual dishes without tasting the over powering chili and/or curry. I went with group of 6 ppl and all dishes were amazing, their onion bhaji has great flavor, it's got hint of sweetness which balanced the chili & curry; try their handi lamb, it's another great dish, well balanced flavor. Overall, it's a great place to try.
This place is about ambience and service ...
Food is not a super hit .. We order Tikkas , tandoori etc ... As a Indian restarent I expected mango lassi . Should be fantastic .. It is not a big move .. But I feel it's expensive ...

+3.5
Delicious food in a nice, quiet location awaits. I recommend the goat saag curry; it really hits the spot ;)
Service is a little on the casual side, which is not a bad thing per se, just not "fine dining" as the name suggests
Shiraaz is one of the staple Indian dining experiences in Melbourne city. There is a nice selection of Indian dishes and the Swine thinks service is not to shabby. Servings are small by Swine standards but all in all adequate. The Indian flavours do flow, and while not blown away, the Swine does keep coming back. Not bad.
Though not a great fan of tasting Indian food while travelling abroad I was literally forced to get in as few colleagues were missing their staple chicken bharta and kadai paneer. The restaurant enjoys av great location , the ambience is very good and offers very prompt service. I found the food average , the Kali dal being the best by a distance. The restaurant offers a wide variety of choice.
Very quiet, most likely due to long weekend. Great food and lovely decor. Would definitely go back
One of Melbourne's best. Tasty Thali's ideal for lunch, reasonably priced, good quality, the moment you walk in the smell is awesome
Had butter chicken and spinach based curry. It is tasty, but probably could impove more to think about how to make meat soft otherwise taste a little bit boring. I love decoration, atmosphere is nice.
Patiala goat
Beef vindaloo.
We had a mixture of meat and vegetarian curries, which had exactly the level of spiciness we had asked for. The dishes tasted great and were delivered promptly. The dahl dish that we tried was also pretty good.
I would definitely recommend this place as a good option for Indian food in the CBD.
Delicious Indian food (Thali) at reasonable price. We came here for a farewell lunch. Getting a thali and drink and still < $30. Food is delicious and tasty. Authentic Indian food. I had the tandoori chicken and it was juicy and spicy - the way I like it. Waiting time for the food can be a bit long. And remember to book in advance. I would recommend this place.
We had the Butter Chicken which was really good, however there wasn't that much chicken in the gravy and the portions are super Tiny!! You got to order like 1 dish person.
The Naan & Roti were standard.
Would recommend the Fish dish & the chicken dish (1 above the butter chicken in the menu)
Great place serving one of the best Indian food in CBD and probably in Melbourne. Nice spacious decor and extensive menu. Food is prepared fresh and will thrill your taste buds. They also offer different spice levels in curries from mild to Super hot 🥵 take your pick and make it known upfront. Try the laccha paratha for a true North Indian paratha experience
