Review Hello Sam - Melbourne

Berlie Faith
I’ve read great raves about this place and most of them are 5 ⭐️s. I’ve been wanting to try this burger joint since I always pass the area but it’s always packed when I pass by. Finally, I went in and told me self I’ll eat in packed or not. Glad I came here at 1500 and luckily I was the only customer at that time. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The vibe is warm too. I mean the place is not too fancy where it gets intimidating to some people like me to come in. I had the ‘TOO CHEESY’ burger 🍔 — tender and juicy and of course cheesyy and Sweet Potato Fries 🍟 — I love the contrast between the sweetness of the starch and the umami of the spices. Overall experience was delightful. Price is pretty reasonable. Paid $25 for burger, chips and drinks. Be back to try more!

First time at Hello Sam and will be back. Good indoor / outdoor seating, friendly and attentive service, food came pretty quick, went with a McSam for first visit, was tasty, patties good and seasoned well, little bit of bun collapse at the end, fries good. Half star taken off for meat juices on platter, needed 1/2 mins to rest but minor quibble, lots of options and look forward to next visit to try some other burgers

Patties (cooked pinkish as originally meant to be - if you insist on well done, maybe reconsider and go to Macca's, HJs or a slightly dry Grill'd patty up the road) are the highlight. Never had a bad meal here, prices as expected perhaps a touch higher for gourmet burger joint. Drop in to a local fav, it won't disappoint (unless you need your beef overcooked)

A very good place to get some above average burgers with ease of ordering and convenience. The waitress was incredibly friendly and was a customer driven person who immediately catered to each need. The food itself was a little on the heavier side (my fault for adding the additional cheese) but the replication of the duck was done incredibly well. The chips were probably better off in a smaller sizing as they were quite overpowering. Overall great value for money with great service

Ideally located, Hello Sam offers a Variety of Deliciously prepared burgers, Chips, Shakes and Beer, which you can enjoy. Staff are friendly and provide a good service.

Burgers are of a pretty high standard considering the competition in the area, generous portions and friendly staff. Absolutely loved the vanilla milkshake!

I’ve been to a lot of burger restaurants and Hello Sam has been the best. I always vouch for the fried chicken burgers and seasoning they use on their patties and sides. Always been a hit with friends and also has a good vegan range so other friends won’t miss out

I came here with my mate. The burger was nice and juicy. I also got the chips with loads of ingredients on it. Def a place if you want something naughty.

Delicious American style burgers. I went with the too cheesy and added bacon. Tasty chips too with a range of sauces. Highly recommend the chipotle mayo.

They will without issue replace the cheese for vegan cheese for us lactose intolerant peeps. Must have is the McSam, which isn’t a rip off of the BigMac honest lol

We’ve eaten at Hello Sam a few times. They serve up some really tasty burgers, fries and onion rings - perfect for a chilled outing. The restaurant is close to all that chapel street has to offer with friendly service, affordable prices and good food.

Had the big mcsam and it was delicious. Double patty so great size as well. I rather this burger real high I’ll be back.

Seating is very cramped, even for two people, but the food is great and the service is excellent

The. Best. Vegan. Burgers. In. Australia. (As voted by me and my friends, who are experienced vegan burger eaters.)

I am crazy about this place. When I dream it's about their burgers, when I have nightmares, it's about not having their burgers.

The settings is comfortable, like a chic diner and the service is friendly and (usually) fast. Milkshakes that washes down well and fries that make you thirsty for more milkshakes.

If you what to be impressed by plant-based burgers, go here now. Oh, and I guess if you eat meat, I hear they do that kind of thing here too.

Nice to meet you too! 😎 always been a massive fan of these guys from years ago, the time i first tasted the epic 'TOO CHEESY' burg 🧀 they've always been one of the top burger shops in melbourne, and for good reason! ☝🏽 quality food with a genius in the kitchen 👨🏽‍🍳 really good menu range from burgs to loaded fries, fried chicken and damn good shakes 🍗 ample outdoor seating right on chapel street! Love the set out and the vibe! 🙌🏽 lets get to the food 😏
.
☑ 10/10 for the CHOOKIE CHIPS! ⭐EASY WINNER! on this particular occasion we decided to jump on the loaded fries menu and see how they go! 🍟 from the taste of these chookie chips, i gotta say they are legit better than the burgs i had 😲 no joke.. im all about the burgers but these bad boys are next level good! 😍 THEY ARE THE BOMB.COM! 💣 i got excited eating every bite of this 😂 the amount of flavour packed on those fries is EPIC! 😍 I don't say that lightly, this is practically a Chicken HSP on flavour steroids! 💉 CHUNKY tender pieces of spice marinated chicken thigh fillet, topped with a daaaamn good chipotle mayo! I mean damn good 😏 this was the obvious hero along with grated jalepenos and cheese 😌 bruh.. the balance of these fries are soo good! ⭐ portion is great for $13! 💰 IMO amazing value for money! 💸 more chicken, more chips, more sauce and much better quality than a HSP which will set you back $12 at a cheap joint 😉 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! ⭐⭐
.
💡 TIP - the shakes are really good! I have yet to have a less than perfect meal here! Their dishes are full of flavour and the staff are so friendly. They often have daily specials to keep things exciting! And they just released a new vegan range that is soooo good. Top work 👌🏼

Hellooo Sam!

This restaurant prices itself in offering burgers and beer. We took the option of the burger salad (sans bun). Little heavy on the sauce but good sized serves of meat and veg.

Sweet potato chips were a good accompaniment to an overall fulfilling meal.
Hello. Imnikki
Say hello to Sam and you can kiss your diet goodbye! The familiar smell of grilled meat patties and deep fried goodness greets you once you walked in, and you know you're in for a cheat meal of epic proportions.

My partner went for the BBQ Boss and this beast was a messy one to eat. There's the oozy yolk that was dripping all over the place, and then there's the smoky BBQ sauce that gave this burger it a delicious boost of flavour. The beef patty was still bit pink in the centre, and was incredibly juicy, while the streaky bacon could do no wrong.

I had the Sweet and Spicy Chicken, which was the chef's special, and as you might have guess, this burger involved fried chicken and sriracha sauce. Succulent flesh encased in a golden crispy batter, this fried chicken was a winner. The maple mayo was the sweet element in the burger, and it was just the right combination of sweet and tangy, which went really well with the heat from the sriracha sauce and jalapeños.

The only minor letdown was the bun, which we personally would have preferred to be a bit more softer.

I really enjoyed the Jumping Jack Fries and polished it all off. My partner, not so much, as he obviously does not adore peanut flavoured sauce as much as I do. It was reminisced of a peanut satay sauce and anything with peanuts float my boat.

He however stole my chocolate and peanut butter milkshake, which was quite unlike him so that was quite a testament of how good it was. It was the perfect consistency - thick and creamy, and bold flavours that smack you right across the face.

The service was incredibly friendly and down-to-earth. I overheard a funny tale between a regular and the staffs, and such interaction really goes to show what hospitality is all about.
Ray
Good burgers and quick service. The staff are friendly too. Sometimes the bread can be a bit dry but apart from that everything else is very tasty. The chips are well seasoned.
Burger Hunter
Nice venue and service. Burger were nice and juicy medium rare which is perfect. The Animal fries was good just needed a little more bacon(felt like a few pieces)
Fried Chicken nice a crispy 👌🏽

Food needed. Belly empty. Appetite massive. We ordered burgers and they were great. In fact, I was absolutely deliciously full at the end. We didn't eat in but instead had takeaway. See there were wine and beer on the menu so may have to come back again test the menu. Eat inside or out although can be a bit windy outside. Dietaries catered for. Staff were fabulous.

Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram/stroller accessible. Reasonable parking.

Hello Sam Burger Cafe in South Yarra has been a long-standing part of my introduction to Melbourne. Four years ago I got a voucher as part my welcome pack in my new apartment. And this year, I had another voucher as I started working down the road from it. A little on the pricey side without offers, it’s still stands up with solid burgers and friendly service.

I was so impressed with the amount of vegan options here!! I couldn’t go past the SALT N PEPPER TOFU burger - it was so thick, juicy and tasty. So satisfying! I also tried the JUMPING JACK FRIES - smothered with pulled bbq Jackfruit with vegan mayo. So delish!!

I definitely want to go back and try some more of the veggie burgers!!

Edit: I went again to try the new VEGAN menu! The KOREAN BBQ burger was amazing. So keen to go back and try more.

We got the challenge burger and it was pretty nice but thats about where the good reviews stops. We got the chicken tenders which were quite dry and no flavour. The other burger we got, the bun was quite stale and the patty had a weird taste. We got a few of their sauces to try and they were very average, especially the ‘hello sam sauce’ which was flavourless. The booths were extremely small and 3 people could barely fit. Was quite a disappoint seeing as the burgers look so yummy on the pictures.

Decided to stop by for dinner as my partner and I were walking past one day, and we were blown away by the lovely service. The lady at the counter was so kind and attentive; getting us seated and settled at our table quickly, taking our order promptly, and checking to make sure we had enough water and napkins.
We ordered the spicy sam, double size bbq boss and chookie chips to share. The food came out pretty quickly.
All the ingredients were fresh, and the portions were generous. Despite their ingredients listed on the menu the burgers were not overly greasy or salty, which I liked. The buns were especially delicious; soft, tasty and well toasted.
I would definitely come back to try more off their menu!
Even though I had planned my trip mostly around Asian food in Melbourne, let it never be said that I am an unaccommodating girlfriend, so when Adam said that his burger cravings had hit, I acquiesced and took a detour to South Yarra to visit his friend Chef Stewy who used to be head chef at Chur Burger.

Had the bbq boss burger. Can’t complain! Excellent quality and very tasty. Staff were attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend if you want a great burger. Great beer on tap too. Happy hour. Would recommend sitting outside. Narrow and hot inside.

Excellent service and great veggie options ! Totally in love with the place !!! Truffle shuffle was hands down the best veggie burger I have had in Melbourne !

I've been trying hard to think of what could be improved on here..... but I got nothing.

This was my first time at Hello Sam and I had the BigMcSam ($17) Sweet Tato fries ($6) and the Hersheys Chocolate PB shake ($8).

The burger was incredible, probably the best brioche bun Ive had, loads of super high melt cheese, perfect amount of sauce, and most importantly beef patties very tender. The onion and pickles add a great flavour to it also.

Sweet potato fries are thin and crispy and go well with chipotle mayo.

The Chocolate PB shake was spot on. Made with crunchy PB so all the nuts are mixed through it.

Looking forward to returning to try their fried chicken burger and some of the other shakes (Chocolate Bounty, Iced Coffee, Salted Caramel etc all sound amazing)
Hello Sam might just be the best burger place in South Yarra. I absolutely love this place. I always get the Mississippi Burger( both the burger and the healthy option). I’ve also tried the Sweet Potato fries and the normal fries. The staff is very polite. Will surely visit again to try different dishes on the menu.

Food: there’s a large range of meats and burger styles to choose from. Diners can also have the option to make their burger healthier by opting for a “naked burger” (a salad instead of the bun)- which is a great alternative for the semi-health-conscious and gluten intolerant. Personally, I always order a grilled chicken, Naked Mississippi Burger when I eat at Hello Sams. The chicken is always moist and the salad is vibrant in colour and taste.

Atmosphere: This restaurant has a classic “Americana” vibe with diner booths lining its perimeter and a traditional cuisine to match. However, the sophisticated grey colour pallet and wooden finishes gives hello Sam a contemporary ambiance that would attract any urban foodie!

Staff: the staff at Hello Sams are always polite, welcoming and do their job efficiently.

Price: the price at Hello Sams is reasonable, with most burgers ranging from roughly $15-$17

Overall, a lovely restaurant with great food, atmosphere and staff. Keep up the good work!!!

The staff were very welcoming and kind. To be honest this was one of my favourite burger places ! The food was fresh and burgers were juicy and amazing! Cant wait to come back here ❤️👌🏼

Decent burgers. Can be a bit of a hit and miss sometimes, depending on what time you go. Can be a bit sloppy at times with their burgers but their fried tenders/chicken is pretty good. Service is great however.

So I'm not sure if you're aware, but last Friday just so happened to be #nationalfriedchickenday as well as my favourite day of the week #friedchickenfriday. And because I'm an absolute fiend for fried chicken, you know your boy had to go all out to celebrate!
*
This was burger number 1 on my fried chicken adventure, from one of the best burger joints in Melbourne hands down @hellosamburgers! It's the aptly named "Southern Fried Big Mac" which is @chef_stewy's take on the infamous Maccas Big Mac, but obviously with Fried Chicken! 😍
*
🍔 Burger Breakdown 🤓
🐔 - Double Southern Fried Chicken
🧀 - Double American Cheddar
🥗 - Lettuce, Pickles, Onions
🍶 - Big Mac Sauce
🍞 - In That Famous Big Mac Form!
*
🍔 F**KING PHENOMENAL AND A MUST EAT! 🍔
Sweet Baby Jesus was this a good time or what? I'm actually kicking myself that this thing was just a special for the day (and the day after) because this thing was bloody perfection in burger form!
You know how @mcdonaldsau created their Chicken Big Mac? But it just wasn't anything special. Well this burger right here is what it was supposed to be, nay what it dreamed it could be!
The Fried Chicken was on point, hella juicy and down with the thickness like always. I've never had anything less than perfect chicken every time I've come to @hellosamburgers. 🙌🏾
And because the pieces of chicken are so thick and juicy, it makes this burger a proper 2 hander to take on and devour!
*
💸=$17 Bloody hell this is an actual steal, no joke, for the size of this burger and the location, it could be priced in the high $20s without trying.
*
I really have to commend that damn culinary mastermind @chef_stewy for knocking it clean out of the ballpark yet again! I couldn't have asked for a better burger to start my fat day to end all fat days with. So I thank you! And in return for forewarning you about #nationalfriedchickenday in the first place, all I ask is for you to keep this magnificent creation as part of the menu, because this is what I'll order everytime, guaranteed! 😁
*
🧐TLDR= SAY HELLO (SAM) TO THE REAL CHICKEN BIG MAC!

This experience was completely unacceptable!!!
My partner ordered on Uber Eats (whom are not responsible at all) our order was for 2xBurgers (1x standard & 1x standard with $9 of added extras) 2xChips and 3xSauces!
I received 1 of the 3 sauces, 1 of the 2 serves of Chips, and I cannot even eat the Burger as I am allergic to Eggs and cannot eat spicy food and the restaurant has put Eggs and Jalapeños on both Burgers!!!
The order was in excess of $60 and I now have no Burger, no Chips and no Sauces!!! Not good enough!!!!
My partner called directly to the Restaurant upon receiving our order, and they said they would look into it and call her back...which they never did!!!
Then she recieved a $3 courtesy refund from Uber eats!!!!

Peace, Love Burgers With a Healthy Twist

So you know what it’s like… You have a craving for a big, juicy burger but want it to be healthier.

Well, in the South Yarra end of Chapel Street we had just that.

Hello Sam is a burger place with a difference. It has an airy, casual atmosphere with spacious seating outdoors and indoors.

The menu is imaginative and bold, offering a hundred percent grass fed Angus burgers hand-pressed on site and even some unusual extras like jackfruit.

Of course you can stack your burger to the max, with lots of tailored choices, instead, we opted for the Truffle Shuffle made of mushroom arancini patty, American cheddar, lettuce, caramelised mayo and truffle mayo. It was delicious!

Hello Sam has lots of Healthier options, naked or with a vegan bun.

We also ordered the naked salt and pepper tofu burger composed of salt and pepper fried tofu, homemade slaw, pickled cucumber, crispy shallots, chilli relish, sweet soy and vegan mayo.

Carrying an ample wine and beer selection, we washed things down with a cheeky pino gris.

The owner Katherine Sampson has been in food for decades and proudly supports local producers, farmers and manufacturers.

Hello Sam is open 11am – 9pm seven days –perfect for the hungry or just peckish.

We will certainly be back to delight our tastebuds again.

The best burger I’ve had in a long time!
The service was amazing - and Katherine absolutely went the extra mile and made our experience amazing.
Thank you so much to the crew at Hello Sam - keep it up!

Had the chance to try some of their new menu items including the southern style fried chicken and Korean style fried chicken. Also sampled the loaded fries range. Best Nutella fries I’ve ever had, everything just works. Get em in ya

Hello Sam remains as one of the best Burger joints in South Yarra! They do everything from awesome burgers to tasty sides and delicious milkshakes!

Above/below are a few of the amazing things I've had at Hello Sam and they aren't afraid to step up their game and build some crazy burgers! Also, they strive for creativity and there's always something special on their menu, be it nutella loaded fries, deep fried nutella burgers or chicken & waffle burgers! There's always something up their sleeves!

Give them a visit, the staff are amongst one of the friendliest people I've ever met! Their menu is simple and delicious, so give them a shot!
Alex
Went here on a Friday night, and the place wasn’t very busy. The inside of the place is a typical Melbourne burger decor. We ordered two burgers, some chips and fried chicken. The burgers were really good, cooked medium rare. As for the chips, they were underwhelming and kind of like pre frozen packet ones. The fried chicken was flavoursome, however really bloody. Also they don’t have onion rings available as a side dish but put two on the burger? Overall not amazing, but was okay.
Eggcelent Eatventures
The burgers here are divine! Perfect proportions between the beef and bread. A little more sauce would be good but that’s personal preference. The chicken tenders with chipotle mayo are some of the best we’ve tried! Thanks guys... we’ll be back!
Nit Mish
The truffle burger and jackfruit loaded fries are my delicious and took me by surprise, since I had jackfruit for the first time! the service was good and staff was pleasant. Would definitely visit again.
Cryptopher Kipouridis
Burgers are an absolute treat! I keep coming back to this place - great location and great food. Drinks are a little bit expensive, but otherwise can't complain!
Abby Boniface
I was here last night on the recommendation of a friend and I was not disappointed. I honestly have no idea how I’ll top these burgers and I’m now super sad that I live so far away from them. Hello Sam is definitely worth the effort. The staff are so friendly and likeable and the service is 10/10. We basically licked our plates clean because the burgers were absolutely amazing. Can’t wait to return.
What an awesome burger joint in South Yarra. My friend and I had been wanting to come here for a while, and we weren't disappointed! Quite casual in their style, most seating is outdoors, with a few indoor tables/benches and chairs if the weather isn't very friendly. Go up to the counter to order, then wait for the goodness to be brought to you in a timely manner. The 'Too Cheesy' is a great simple cheeseburger with some fresh salad, whilst the 'BBQ Juicy Lucy' is satisfyingly decadent with melting cheese oozing out of the juicy beef patty. The brioche buns were a highlight, and toasted to subtle perfection. Loaded fries are a must here, with the Nutella Fries winning our hearts (whoever thought of Nutella, maple bacon and crushed oreo's on fries is a genius) and the Triple Smoked Pork Fries a showstopping heart-stopper. Definitely would visit this place again for a cheatmeal fix.
Wolf Of Collins St.
Burger & Chips are good here, and certainly worth a visit, specially if you have entertainment book voucher, but at the end of the day still for me Grill'd are the best!
Thomas Francione
Burgers are always awesome, one of the better burger joints Melb has to offer ... but they need to bring back the Mac and cheese to the menu :(
Cheesy.boys
Burger was great. Nice and fresh with a bit of a homemade taste to it. The venue is on the smaller side and artificial lighting made it difficult to get a quality shot. The price is slightly high but that’s also pretty standard on the south side. Definitely still worth a visit if you’ve got the money to spend. Try the cheddar ale melt!
Lisa Gresens
I heard about this place and finally gave it a try. I got the naked burger which came with quinoa and coleslaw. It was very good but had so much mayo on it that it wasn’t really healthy anymore. The sweet potato fries with truffle aioli are sooo good you have to try those!
Josie
Dark haired girl working the register last night, 23/10/17 was very salty! Smile girl....because A. life's not so bad, and B. that's what you're getting paid to do!
Julieeeteee
The burgers were pretty average, nothing special.
I tried the Uncle Sam burger and it tasted like a Macca’s cheeseburger. Food took 15 minutes to come out.
Mashedpotato
Best loaded fries we have ever had. Caramelised onion, bacon, cheese and a mayo. Fries were great too. Cheeseburger did not come with pickles? So ordered a different burger with the onion rings. Patty was a bit dry even though it was cooked medium and was pink. Patty needed more fat to give the burger moisture and flavour.
Mills
I’m sorry but waiting 20 minutes for a burger when your venue is only half full is not good enough. (This is a late review as I went here late last week but didn’t get a chance to write anything).
I decided to wait as it was my first time coming here.
Firstly the burger just tasted right . I didn’t enjoy the pattie or the different combination of flavours that had put together (I ordered the Uncle Sam).
The chips were very average and nothing to rage about. In my eyes this place is below average for the quality of burgers in Melbourne.

Maddy Horne
i got introduced to this one, defs go with an empty stomach to finish the food. The cheese is amazing as it just melts in your mouth. The chips were very succulent, they updated the menu and i miss the onion rings they're were amazing. Go here every now and again when we are feeling like a good burger, my boyfriend and i go all the time were extreme foodies. They always update the menu which is great if you want something different each time you go. Would def go to this place if you are around the south yarra area and you want a good burger feed.
Hilary
Food was nice enough, had the single Uncle Sam burger on a gf bun and requested no onion ring as I'm a coeliac (which I flagged with staff). Soon after eating I started having symptoms of a gluten exposure, and when I contacted the restaurant directly to enquire about their food prep and cross contamination I never heard back. Staff should be educated about coeliac disease and if food is unsafe customers should be informed.
Ted Mac Gregor
Hit and miss had the big sam in store and it was great very yummy.
Then ordered the Aussie sam on uber that was filled with this overly sweet beetroot chutney
That ruined the burger it was gross yuk
And it took ages to get delivered and was cold af wen it arrived
Dean Pahek
I have been here on three occasions, each time has been good and they do consistently good food. Nothing outrageously special but if you're in the area tick them off your list.

Having birthday celebrations with some work friends, we took a chance on Hello Sam for a nice, easy lunch. To say that Melbournians are spoilt for choice with burgers would be an understatement - along Chapel St alone, Hello Sam has it's fair share of competitors.

We entered the restaurant, with no-one at the front to greet us, and no other staff member in sight, except the kitchen staff who were visible only at intervals through the small window into the kitchen as they bustled around. Taking matters into our own hands, we sorted ourselves our and took a seat towards the back area. Five, ten minutes into our experience and we had spied one staff member, who was cleaning tables near us. Ordering at the front counter was no issue, and was likely the only time we'd actually interacted with a staff member during our experience.

I ordered the Too Cheesy, and got exactly that. The burger tasted good, and delivered on what it promised. I was not entirely blown away, but would likely return if judging on the food alone. Unfortunately, I'll be hesitant to return or recommend Hello Sam to friends.
Jerry Spring
Some people think it's to expensive for burgers however I think it cost just right for the size and quality of burger you're getting! I love how juicy the meat is and how it's so full of flavour! Defund coming back again
Alicia
Best burger I've ever eaten !!!!!! I can't remember what it was called but was just a classic grilled chicken burger. Absolutely loved it and will be back for many more. Service was great aswell. 5 stars for hello sam!
Whatdoyafeellike
Really good burgers and friendly service ☺️

We ordered Sam the man and the Spicy Sam. Both were yummy. Highly recommend the Spicy Sam. Sam the man had melted cheese which was nice.

Love the brioche buns👍
I'm Batman
Great food all around.

The fried chicken patty was a bit dry but I'm willing to try their beef burgers.

Salted caramel shake, although not pictured, was great though a bit thick.

Also ordered sweet potato fries but topped it up with their cheese sauce, which tasted almost like a raclette cheese topping.

I'm willing to re-rate on my next visit, they do have specials every so often and I just missed out of their loaded fried chicken special a few weeks ago.
Starkpopifylove
The burgers are quite nice, there is nothing special about it though. But the service was very nice and place was quite clean. I would come again 😁😁

This was my second trip to Hello Sam, a nice open air burger cafe along Chapel St. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere chill. The first time I got a double BBQ Bacon and today i chose Sam the Man double. The burgers were consistent. Nice thick beef, and all the right ingredients make them full of flavour. The cheddar ale melt is a nice oozing of cheese i havent seen before. However i found them to be a bit too greasy and messy for my liking. The stick in the middle is a necessity, although they acknowledge it with a wet serviette which was nice. The chocolate shake was a weird flavour but thick. I would still recommend it to anybody after a burger in this area.
Pradeep Rajkumar
Expensive coffee. Worstly made here. Chicken burger below average.Oily greasy food.Restricted options in the menu.Messed dining ambiance and fume, odd dining design.

Highly not recommended..
Jude D'Souza
Nice open burger joint on Chapel street.
Great atmosphere with quick service. The burgers really were tasty and packed a lot of flavour, don't think you can wring here with any choice from the menu. Definetly worth a visit for Burger fans!
Denny Patron
Had the juicy Lucy and the animal fries. Burger was just ok, was hoping for more oozy cheese being a juicy Lucy but it wasn't really. Meat patty itself was ok, bun so so! Certainly enjoyed it but with so many good burger joints about probably won't rush back. Animal fries were the highlight, good chips covered with bacon cheeses and special sauce
Keely
We regularly eat here and have never had a bad thing off the menu. Feels like a lot of care is taken with the menu and preparation with the Animal Fries being a stand out. The caramelised onions, bacon bits and that amazing sauce make this our favourite thing on the menu! The beef burgers are always juicy and the fried chicken is cooked perfectly. Highly recommend
Doodiethefoodieblogger
This has just become our new favourite burger place. We had 'the cheesy' as recommended but the owner and thus burger did not disappoint. Cooked to perfection. We also had the turkish delight milkshake, now i don't like turkish delight but this was so good! Definitely coming back to try more burgers!
Ilovefood13
Saw the not too bad review and since we were in the hood, decided to try Hello Sam. Ordered Spicy Sam, Big McSam and Classics Southern Fried along with chips and onion rings.

The beef was juicy and tender and the chicken, although fried, was not too dry and quite tasty.

Enjoyed our meal and don't mind coming back.
George G
Place was recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint. Good value for money and absolutely love how they have a weekly chef special. Seems
to be quite a few options available so I am looking forward to visiting again to try a few more out. Delicious!
Ai
This place is so underrated!!! I think it's one of the best burger places in Melbourne! I always order either juicy Lucy or kahuna (with no pineapple. Can't have pineapple in anything savoury. Sorry!) their bun is very soft, buttery and you can even taste a bit of milk. It's just a perfect match with the fried chicken + bacon!!! Juicy Lucy is a best cure for hangover body too. My partner also orders animal fries. Really greasy but it's so addictive!!! Sometimes we had a bit too greasy chips or sometimes too less spring onion etc but still better than other burger venues I guess. We kept eating their burgers at least once a week, and am sure I gained weight but their burgers are sooooo good (especially when you are drunk❤️)

I loved this place but gotta change the rating down to 2. What happened to the animal fries? Did they change the type of potato? It’s so watery and not crunchy like it used to be before. Did they change the mayo too? Because the topping was my favorite but now it just tastes so gross. Fried chicken burger also used to be my favorite but now the chicken is way too thick and hard to eat. Haven’t eaten here for a while for the reason above.

Hello Sam is one of my go to places in my neighbourhood now. It's got a vast menu for a burger place and some of their specials are out of this world! Indoor/Outdoor dining and super friendly staff who will talk your ear off about burgers!
I most recently had their Mississippi Fried Chicken burger and it's definitely one of the best things i've eaten lately. SO big it was more than enough to eat but just because of the flavour I wanted another one!
Definitely check this place out if you're craving a burger (or if you need a hangover fix, they're good for that too!!) ;)

Hello Sam is a great burger joint, casual and clean; with friendly and helpful staff. The sweet potato fries were fantastic, and plenty of options for dipping sauces made me very happy! The chicken burger was slightly dry (luckily I had extra dipping sauce to lather it in!), but otherwise the burgers were tasty.

Luckily for Hello Sam I don't judge based on service because every time I've been it's just been a joke lol. But I'm not going to let a few shitty employees take away from the chef's incredible burgers. Hello Sam is the most consistent burger place I've been to. I've never been able to fault a burger. The chicken is crazy good and the brioche buns are like no other. The sweet potato fries are also really good. I ordered 2 beef patties, 1 chicken, bacon and 3 cheeses.
Would recommend to anyone. Amazing burgers.

Delish burgers! We've been a few times and the burgers have always been great. The loaded chips and onion rings are also yum. The fried chicken and slaw burger is great if you like that style. We're burger fanatics and this place doesn't disappoint.

Went here as part of a phase where work colleagues wanted to find the best burger. This review is tough as my first time I loved it! Second time underwhelmed. I will give it one more chance:/
Kiwi Living In The Big Smoke
We didn't plan on eating here, just looked good as we were driving past. The burgers were so good. Partner had juicy Lucy and I had the big mc sam and sweet potato chips.
Definitely one of the better burgers I've had and can easily say best sweet potato chips I've had. Would definitely go again.

If burgers were gods ,Hello Sam would be their temple , there're for all kind of tastes...
Their authentic burgers like the Simply Sam or Sam the man are just splendid..
The vegan option bean'beet is an original and well done patty flavoured with the pineapple salsa .
Excellent !! Keep up the good work!

Rude owner, charges fees for using EFTPOS. Soft, cake-like brioche buns are awful. Onion rings are decent. Completely overpriced. There are literally dozens of better burger offerings in Melbourne.
The Broneills
This place is good, he burgers and sides are as good as any burger place in Melbourne (try the fried chicken Kahuna). But the last 2 times we have tried to phone order, we called upwards of 10x for the phone to just ring out. The staff inside are young, could be put down to a phone be knocked off the hook....but we have now gone elsewhere because this was a massive pain - twice in 2 weeks.
Easily one of the worst meals I've ever had out. So bad in fact, that the burgers were inedible. The chicken in the chicken burgers was drier than the Sahara (no amount of sauce, sour cream or mayo could revive them) and the fish burger was soggy and totally unappealing. Give it a big miss!
Snaka
The food here is absolutely delicious! If you love onion rings, this is the place for you! Some of the best onion rings I've ever had. The beer-battered chips we pretty tasty too. Nothing disappointment me here. Will be back soon!

Great burgers! Made it to my favourites list. I ordered Sam the Man ($15) and it was just packed with ingredients and full of flavour! The beetroot chutney in it was so great too. It was hella messy to eat though, so juicy and stuff kept falling out hahah. Good thing the provide us with wet wipes with each burger, best idea ever.
Definitely worth going here, for both quality and $$.

Yumm!!! Juicy Lucy and Uncle Sam patties were cooked medium rare, and full of flavour. Onion rings and sweet potato chips are also real good. Definitely give it a try
Must Be Hungry
Despite being on a very busy the road the venue was not packed hence we picked a table very easily. I have ordered a Big Mc Sam, double patty double cheese and a serve of chips. The bottom bun was larger compared to the actual patty, which it made it look a bit funny but the taste was right there! Greasy in a way that a burger should be, standard diamond frozen chips. For $16.5 I woukd have loved some bacon or an extra item but I guess rent and rates in South Yarra are expensive. They serve alcohol and they charge 1% for card payments.

Hello Sam is a local burger joint that we haven’t visited in a while. This place has gone through somewhat of a transformation a while back and it was to our surprise to find them serving a special monster Melbourne Fried Chicken burger so we had to get it!. This burger was loaded with all kinds of layers and was really hard to handle, extra sloppy the way Hollywood likes his burgers. The fried chicken was a bit too crunchy and oily however everything seemed freshly cooked but there were too many tastes for it’s own good.

Had a pleasant experience here in Hello Sam. Although i'm not the biggest burger fan, the burger here was pretty good! The animal fries was definitely satisfying! Would come back again to try another burger!

Went to try the Mississippi southern fried chicken burger with a side of sweet potato fries with a sweet mayo sauce. Meal came out relatively fast, from first look, chicken looked a little over. first bite, all I really got was the coating/batter of the chicken, very crunchy but not in a good way as it tasted burnt which brought out a bitter taste, when I took a second bite and got the full combination of bun, fried chicken, slaw, pickles it was pretty good, I think the slaw really lifted the whole thing but the chicken was more on the dry side.

Sweet potato fries were really good, crunchy on the outside soft and fluffy in the inside. paired with the sweet chili mayo was really nice.

Overall I rate the chicken burger 3/5 average. it wasn't the worst chicken burger but it also wasn't the best.

Hit up Hello Sam at the top end of Chapel St because I'd been hearing such great things since the launch of the new menu - was not dissapointed! Jucy Luicy patties were a win. Cheddar ale melt was a win. Fried chicken was a win. OK, ok, it was all a win lol. Never a bad burger here. Worth visiting 🍔

Smallish burger cafe on Chapel St, just north of Toorak road, limited seating inside, but more spacious and larger sitting area outside on the pavement. Well priced, great serving sizes and friendly service. The animal fries were delicious (great to share between two) and the burgers were great, particularly the Juicy Lucy (the fried chicken I added - and highly recommend, some of the crispiest, juicy chicken you will taste, really added to the burger). One of the (not so hidden) gems in South Yarra for burger lovers.

Went in to try the guys new menu. Fried chicken is the main new thing along with loaded fries and a jucy lucy patty. Burgers were goo, small knock back they forgot a few small things but otherwise it was a great feed and experience

Certainly some of the best burgers I have had. Also don't forget to try the sweet potato fries you will not be disappointed. Credit to the entire team yum.

Working locally on St Kilda Road, the office placed an order for 17 of us via Foodora. The food was delivered on time and there was not a single element incorrect. Surprisingly good start.... Then to find out how delicious the burgers and sides all were was amazing and they were still warm on arrival. We were all very impressed with the quality of everything and the value for money was great. We'll be back for sure!

Hello Sam, everything I would expect from a burger joint.

Got here before the lunch rush on a weekend, on a nice sunny day. we got one of the beef, chicken and lamb burgers. Beef was probably my favourite.

Chips weren't too bad either, washed it all down with some guava juice.
Cookielessvee
nice place for burgers. Tried the Mississippi southern fried chicken burger, compact which had a hint of spice. Toasted bun, crispy marinated slaw and the chicken was tender with a crispy batter. The beer battered chips were crispy. Great service, provided wet tissues for after as the burgers can get quite messy.

Hello Sam always has fast service. It has decent burgers at a reasonable price and has nice seating indoor and outdoor. Particularly good for a lunch outside in summer.

Ventured down Chapel St and decided to drop into Hello Sam for lunch in a bitterly cold day. Had the Sam The Man double patty $20 and friend chose the McSam $16. Good honest quality burgers, well cooked, nice and juicy. The Sam The Man is basically with the lot and all the flavours blended together for a satisfying meal. the McSam was a double patty cheesesburger, with similar satisf

I cannot really rate the food as we waited for half an hour and was not served. After asking the waiter we were told that our order was not put through and obviously they didn't pay attention to us who have been sitting and waiting.. The restaurant was not even half full so I don't think there's solid reason for this kind of experience apart from bad service. We left the restaurant without receiving one single apology from the waiter.

What can one say, another burger joint! But it's s cut above with good buns, burgers that hold together pretty well with meat that's juicy and selection of tasty sides. Oh! And there's beer. Did I say the meat was juicy? A solid performer

Good burger joint with decent beer (although more Vic beers and less commercial stuff would be good) and local to me! The chipotle chicken is probably their best, but having had a good half of their menu, everything they do is pretty good.

Overall: Good burgers, great chips, but a little overpriced.
Food: M ordered the "Uncle Sam - 2 patties", which he enjoyed, and I ordered the "Bonanza - well done", which was great. Beer-battered chips were great.
(Last time I had the "Sam-Brero", which was a little soggy and .. odd?)
Service: Fine. No problems.
Yesterday we went to South Yarra and decided to try the Hello Sam burgers. Initially I thought it wasn't rated really well on zomato by other users, however after trying the burger (I ordered the Parma-Sam) and onion rings, I thought it actually tasted alright. On the other hand, Cam ordered the special burger advertised outside, which was a mixed burger with chicken and burger and said it was so good. He found it so good to the point that he wished he had ate the onion rings because he felt like the burger was that amazing. Overall, found it to be a good experience and would recommend this place to other burger lovers.

P.s it's even better than McDonald's haha!
Justin
Great burgers, fast service. Everything was really fresh and I loved the crunch of the hash brown inside the burger. Not too pricey at 14.50.
