It’s a 4.5 for me.
I’d confidently say this is one of Melbourne’s most unexpectedly good dining experiences. Everything works here. The food, service and surroundings are uniformly excellent. And, you get history and education as well plus see the odd well known face. The only surprising thing is that it wasn’t completely full during our visit
This is the dining room Victoria’s Parliamentarians use. It’s outstanding. I had the seafood laksa which was listed as a medium sized dish. It was huge and brimming with beautiful seafood. Flavours were lovely and it was a very substantial meal indeed. It was fantastic value at $28.
My companions loved their meals too. As our server said, this is the food that’s served to all the top politicians in the state and so it is exceedingly good.
Our Langhi Ghiran riesling, one of my favorites, went beautifully with our food. We were too full for dessert and just had a cheese platter which was terrific with good variety and just the right size. I was worried the coffee would be ordinary but the opposite was the case. It was excellent. Like seriously good coffee and expertly made.
The surroundings here are olde world. The restaurant is located in the middle of Parliament House and has real style with very high ceilings and lots of woodwork and other period features. Being here is a real treat.
Our servers here today were superb. They knew the menu back the front. Their advice was spot on every time. They were unfailingly polite and very efficient. Seriously impressive people.
It’s a lot of fun here. Such an unusual but unmissable Melbourne experience.
Highly recommended.
We came here for a high tea and it was a wonderful experience. Parliament house is truly a spectacular piece of architecture. Walking through the building to strangers corridor was amazing. We were seated in the corridor for at a table and served our high tea.
The food was delicious and experience lovely as we sat in a building that carries so much history and beauty. I loved that the food was sourced from Victorian farms and businesses and that even the cups and plates were Australian.
I highly recommend booking in for a high tea and coming here. I believe this needs to be on every Victorian's bucket list and if you are visiting Melbourne a great attraction to get a taste of local.
High tea inside the Parliament House of Melbourne surely was a fancy and interesting experience. Despite the fuss of bag & body checking, it was worth exploring such a historical place. It gave me an eerie feeling passing through the reception, the banquet area, and the Queens Hall. Even the toilets were classic. We paid $47 per person for a complete high tea experience. The food here includes sandwiches, sweet cakes like macaroons, scones, tarts, fruit slices, etc; but they tasted average. You can pick your tea bag and hot water will be served straight away. We also had sparkling wine beside the tea to complete our Friday afternoon (much too soon?). Anyways, I feel privileged to be a stranger dining inside the Parliament House, and I'm glad that they have the innovated idea to open it to the public.
A great restaurant old world with excellent food ! The chicken was one of the best I've had and an amazing big piece of salmon for another guest and the pork belly fantastic ! As was the crumbed Blood Pudding ... and topped with great Bread and wine !
Opened since 1892 and only 7 reviews on Zomato. Now that's what you call a hidden gem. Strangers Corridor is open to the public on non sitting days. Security was tight like an episode of Border Patrol. Sharp objects will be held in their locker for collection upon exiting the building. After passing security we had to register our names to collect visitor passes. We walked through the highly impressive collection of old grumpy folks aka the premiers room. And viala the gorgeous wooden paned restaurant appeared. Service was attentive and friendly. Menu is locally sourced from the finest produce of Victoria. Had the steak and it was medium rare beauty, portion was decent and only for $30. While on my way to the facilities, stumbled upon the member's library and Beauty and the Beast comes to mind. The restaurant closes at 5pm, we were there for nearly 2 hours. What a delightful experience, will definitely be back again.

The place serves old fashioned recipe food. Don't get me wrong, but I really really enjoyed the food.
I ordered the salmon, the skin is crispy. Loved their dill sauce. Meat of the fish was succulent as well.
Partner ordered the meat pie. The puff pastry was extra crispy and delicious.
Portions were big and filling.
The family ordered their Steak (Medium Rare) and the Duck dish. All of them enjoyed as well.
Staff were friendly and have a good sense of humour. Service was excellent as well.
It might sound simple, but it's definitely a good experience to visit.
I rate it 4 ad I feel privileged to be dining at the most important building in Victoria! Strangers Corridor is a restaurant basically for the parliamentarians when they are sitting! The public get to enjoy it only on their off days. The Restaurant is hidden inside the Parliament House of Victoria - where the first Australian Parliament sat in 1901. You need to book, go through the security check just like the airport!
For all that trouble, I know I am wining and dining in a very safe spot, very private and quiet location! I just love the exclusivity, the amount of space to myself!!
Food was good considering we are the only ones in the restaurant most times! The price is pretty much on par with what is charged out there. I choose this anytime for the exclusivity and space to myself!!
One should do the tour before or after the restaurant!! Highly recommended!
We were booked for high tea in the Stranger's Corridor, however as (shockingly) the pollies showed up for work on a Friday, we were moved into a private dining room, which was beautiful. This place was all about the experience - the drinks and food were lovely, but for the money paid, there wasn't a lot. The champagne was quite good, (not the usual horse swill you often get at places where you are expected to make toasts) and I ordered a cappucino instead of tea which was nice (although I didn't get to use the lovely tea cup, so perhaps I should have had tea!). The sandwiches were lovely, the scones were quite nice, but a bit on the small side (and I have to say, my Mum's scones are better) but the petits four were very interesting. I tried a teeny little item with peanuts in a little chocolate base, the filling turned out to be a runny peanut butter and it was very lovey, and the lemon meringue tart was quite nice. If you want the experience of getting to view the beautiful building that is our Parliament House, go, but be prepared to pay for the experience (and empty your bag of any "bad things" - including marker pens before you head through the metal detector/xray).
Lovely place, warm and cheerful waitress, amazing local food. Particularly the zucchini salad and baked eggs
Came here for Afternoon Tea on a weekday when Parliament wasn't sitting. The Scones were the best I have ever tasted and the Salmon and cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches were scrumdiddlyumptious as was the mini cakes. After stuffing our faces we did a tour of Parliament overall it was a lovely afternoon.
...fully impressed with the food, the service and the beauty of the building.
Beautiful surroundings, so relaxing. Staff attentive, friendly, polished, professional - a true delight. Food superb. Coffee lives up to Melbourne standards. A magnificent building full of history and interesting architectural features. A large open expanse is very welcoming and will feel very safe in our Covid days. Wish this was my local!
Decadent high tea in beautiful surroundings. Scones, sandwiches, cakes, tea or coffee, and Champagne - what more could you want? Received as a gift from our daughter. Fabulous idea! Lovely staff. You enter through a scanner, so be prepared for the security. Will definitely go again.

Would enjoy another visit any time.
