It’s a 4.5 for me.
I’d confidently say this is one of Melbourne’s most unexpectedly good dining experiences. Everything works here. The food, service and surroundings are uniformly excellent. And, you get history and education as well plus see the odd well known face. The only surprising thing is that it wasn’t completely full during our visit
This is the dining room Victoria’s Parliamentarians use. It’s outstanding. I had the seafood laksa which was listed as a medium sized dish. It was huge and brimming with beautiful seafood. Flavours were lovely and it was a very substantial meal indeed. It was fantastic value at $28.
My companions loved their meals too. As our server said, this is the food that’s served to all the top politicians in the state and so it is exceedingly good.
Our Langhi Ghiran riesling, one of my favorites, went beautifully with our food. We were too full for dessert and just had a cheese platter which was terrific with good variety and just the right size. I was worried the coffee would be ordinary but the opposite was the case. It was excellent. Like seriously good coffee and expertly made.
The surroundings here are olde world. The restaurant is located in the middle of Parliament House and has real style with very high ceilings and lots of woodwork and other period features. Being here is a real treat.
Our servers here today were superb. They knew the menu back the front. Their advice was spot on every time. They were unfailingly polite and very efficient. Seriously impressive people.
It’s a lot of fun here. Such an unusual but unmissable Melbourne experience.
Highly recommended.
We came here for a high tea and it was a wonderful experience. Parliament house is truly a spectacular piece of architecture. Walking through the building to strangers corridor was amazing. We were seated in the corridor for at a table and served our high tea.
The food was delicious and experience lovely as we sat in a building that carries so much history and beauty. I loved that the food was sourced from Victorian farms and businesses and that even the cups and plates were Australian.
I highly recommend booking in for a high tea and coming here. I believe this needs to be on every Victorian's bucket list and if you are visiting Melbourne a great attraction to get a taste of local.
High tea inside the Parliament House of Melbourne surely was a fancy and interesting experience. Despite the fuss of bag & body checking, it was worth exploring such a historical place. It gave me an eerie feeling passing through the reception, the banquet area, and the Queens Hall. Even the toilets were classic. We paid $47 per person for a complete high tea experience. The food here includes sandwiches, sweet cakes like macaroons, scones, tarts, fruit slices, etc; but they tasted average. You can pick your tea bag and hot water will be served straight away. We also had sparkling wine beside the tea to complete our Friday afternoon (much too soon?). Anyways, I feel privileged to be a stranger dining inside the Parliament House, and I'm glad that they have the innovated idea to open it to the public.
