The home to amazing Korean Food!
This place has been around for ages and they are all about amazing flavours. No frills inside but just amazing food.
My favourite has got to be the fried chicken with cheese and the jap chae. The tteokbokki here is really yummy as well.
It reminds me of a homecook diner where you walk in and know for a fact they serve amazing homely dishes.
Their pancake used to be better but its still one of the best korean restaurant in mel
I ordered tteokbokki on UberEats today. I asked for cheese without expecting it as I didn't pay for extra (UberEats didn't provide me with an option), but they kindly gave me a generous portion of cheese regardless.
The tteokbokki was delicious!! Perfect amount of spice, not chewy, lots of vegetables/fish cake and a great sized portion. Will definitely be coming back to eat here in person.
The spicy fried chicken with cheese here is the best. The sauce is delicious. Rating is based mostly on how good this dish is.
Most other dishes are about the same as other middle of the road Korean restaurants.
Seafood pancake is quite good.
Jaepchae can be hit or miss.
They use small paper cups for water, which is pretty wasteful.
Mook Ji Bar provides simple, no nonsense Korean food in a very basic environment. I visited on a weekend at lunch time and the place was packed. Despite this, service was quick and there was a quick turnaround in customers.
I ordered the Bibimbap while my companion had the squid bulgogi. Even though the bibimbap was not served in a hot stone bowl, it still tasted delicious. Not sure how they got that egg perfectly round with a runny yolk. The squid bulgogi had a lovely spicy taste to it and the squid itself was not over cooked...so vigorous chewing was not required. The side dishes were limited but nice and crunchy.
It's clear why Mook Ji Bar has a good score!
We had the soy garlic fried chicken & bibimbap. Both were amazing, highly recommended! Amazing staff too 🤩 Would defs come back!
How big is the portion size? I did not expect some much meat. Loved the separate sides of kimchi, pickled radish? And salty fried gish
This is my third or fourth time visiting here. My friend is fond of the spicy fried octopus which I admit is really delicious. I tried beef intestine this time. The texture of beef intestine is quite weird for me haha, but the flavour of the soup is as good as the seafood tofu soup. I could eat 3 bowls of rice with the spicy fried octopus :)

I tried this Korean soup for the first time and it really surprised me! I’ve been to mook Ji bar for the first time and decide to eat spicy potato and pork ribs stew and also kimchi pancake.
The food: do you know that feeling when you eat something and you remember your childhood? So this restaurant made me feel this way. And I’ve never eaten Korean food in my childhood. Anyway. I just loved it. The dish is enough for 3 people eat well (but we ordered the pancake together and it was too much).
The service: nothing to complain, they serve really quick and friendly.
The price: the price around Melbourne is similar. I paid $42 for the soup and the pancake it was $15 I believe, but the taste worthwhile.
Mook Ji bar has always be one of place to go for me in finding korean casual eating. I love their soy garlic fried chicken with cheese. Today, we tried their lunch deal which is very yummy with very good reasonable price.

Mook Ji Bar is one of the best Korean restaurants in the city. Flavours are very authentic and prices are reasonable too.
I’ve brought many friends here before who loved their food too. Friendly staffs and amazing service.
Would highly recommend this place!
A Korean eatery with authentic feels. (3.5⭐)
The place has that Korean feel with a chatty atmosphere and kpop music blasting. It's not that big and so can be bit crampy and noisy.
Sometimes you have to queue, they'll give you a number and you have to wait outside until they call you in. Staffs were friendly, and ordering hasn't been problematic.
I've tried various dishes here and they're all mostly yum, you can feel like it's really flavourful and authentic. Their seasoning for the pork (or with squid) bulgogi was one of the best hands down. Yukgaejang (spicy beef tofu soup) was also good. Portion though wasn't very generous.
The pancake wasn't the best, the last time i had the seafood pancake it's more of an omellete than a pancake, with only squid as the seafood. The sauce needs more sweet too.
Their spicy beef ribs I asked them to make it less spicy but it was definitely still too spicy for us (ask for just a little spicy instead!), but really good flavors and nice amount of meat with good texture, and sweet potato noodle.
Their samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup) was quite yummy. I forgot tbh how the authentic one is supposed to taste like but my Korean friend liked it so. The soup was bit thick and the chicken was really tender. My friend did struggle with some small bones though.
Side dishes was kimchi, anchovies and bean sprouts/radish, all pretty good.
Overall a great option for some Korean eats.
( follow for more!✨)

The first Korean restaurant I tried in Melbourne. The chicken with garlic sauce is gourmet and I love the crispy most. Seafood pancake is good too, but it would be better if we could choose the size.
Delicious and cheap korean food in the heart of the CBD. They are known for their fried chicken which is tasty and crispy, but can be quite spicy! They're also generous with the side dishes!
Mook Ji Bar is an unassuming restaurant.
Its great for lunch or dinner.
We ordered beef bulgogi, bimbimbap, cold noodle soup and fried chicken. Everything was delicious especially the fried chicken.
The menu items are modestly price.
Summary - Value for money especially the Chicken Set. Favourite dish is definitely the fried chicken! We ordered it with spicy sauce and always include $5 cheese!
Review:
So I’ve been plenty of times to Mook Ji Bar and it has never failed me and my cravings! I’ve brought many of friends prior who loved the food as well.
It can definitely get crowded, but the atmosphere is good, staff are quite attentive and accommodating. Definitely food value for money!
Today we ordered the ‘Chicken Set’ - the description was vague, so we asked the waitress. She also was unsure and had to clarify with the chef what the meal included.
Chicken Set included Tteokbokki (ricecake dish), fried dumplings, two cans and a whole size fried chicken with your pick of sauce (and we added the $5 cheese)
We were both so shocked at the huge meal sizes.
I kid you not, this meal could probably be eaten between 3-4 people and there were only two of us!
The fried chicken is so flavoursome and melts in your mouth; essentially you’ll be hooked! The fried dumplings were crunchy and moist inside. The tteokbokki was also nice but the rice cakes were too soft for my liking.
And to clarify you can definitely order these individually!
Overall, this restaurant is definitely one of the best Korean restaurants you’ll find in Melbourne.
Best Korean in Melbourne. Venue isn’t anything special but when the food is that good nothing else matters. Got a classic bibimbap and spicy fried chicken. Both were 10/10
We were craving for Korean food and found this place so thought we might give it a try. The decoration doesn’t look very appealing but the food were surprisingly good. As we have some kids we opt to order some non spicy version but still taste great.
👍🏻cheesy chicken- chicken still very crispy
👍🏻seafood pancake- lots of seafood
👍🏻bibimbap- is very healthy has fried egg, vege, mince pork and caviar. The kids love this as they can mix up themselves just don’t put the sauce in
👍🏻glass noodles very flavoursome, another hit for the kids
👍🏻chicken soup is good to finish off the meal
Very happy with our meal. The only minus is they don’t have high chair
Came here 1 years ago! We ordered various of dishes. One thing that i remember is that i love the japchae!!! :) one of the must order dish as well as the bulgogi
I can't believe after years of passing this place, it never caught my eye. Their food is so good!
Came with a party of three, ordering kimchi jeon, tteokbokki with extra cheese ($3) and chicken bulgogi. Their banchan wasn't bad although the anchovies really freaked me out (I don't eat those), but the kimchi and fish cake skins were yummy.
Extra cheese really uplifted the tteokbooki - was so delighted that there was an egg in it too. The flavours were super yum, nothing overly oily. Chicken bulgogi was a heap of onion and garnishes but plenty of chicken pieces. My favourite of the night was the kimchi jeon (pancake). Super crisp with a sharp sauce, and the colour was a bright orange, not pale and bland like other places. Prices were reasonable, I'd love to come back soon for my other favourite dishes.
Primarily I wanted to revisit Mook Ji Bar because I had fond memories of their crispy fried chicken. So we did just that, a plate of fried chicken without any of the sauces to maintain maximum crunch. They were indeed nice and crunchy wing pieces however they were underseasoned, a bit of salt goes a long way. Disappointed.
We also got a small portion of spicy seafood tofu soup, a favourite winter warmer. Tofu as always is silky smooth bathing in a spicy bubbly broth. Combine that with some rice to absorb that soup and it is fire! We also got tteokbokki pimped up with some melted cheese and huge fried mandu (dumplings) served on the side to maintain maximum crispness. Rice cakes are addictively chewy in the spicy sauce and the cheese just takes it to the next level.
It's one of the more popular Korean eateries out there and offer a wide range of food items. For the most part it's a safe bet especially during winter where they offer a variety of heartwarming soups.
Amazing.
Just perfectly unapologetically, authentic, genuine Korean dishes. Where else would a restaurant boldly dish out beef intestines served two ways?
On a Friday night, our group of five were given a number to wait outside for twenty minutes for a table.
We ordered the spicy beef ribs, the soy garlic chicken wings & drumlettes and the army soup.
We should have ordered: beef bulgolgi, stirfried beef intestines, the chicken as above, a pancake and a soup. And I’d certainly return soon to do so.
Variety of soups n stews that tickle my taste buds. Definitely go back for more. Small place and noisy but the yummy food is worth it! Fried chicken is popular alongside other delicacies. Serving staff is attentive despite high traffic during peak hours. The soups contain abit of MSG but manageable.
One of the best stir fried beef intestines! (곱창볶음)
Whenever I visited Melbourne, I went to this restaurant to have some 곱창볶음, I’ve also been here with some Korean colleagues and they also were satisfied with this dish! Price of takeaway was same as one from the menu but there’s no Banchan for takeaway customers.
One of the best Korean places in the city. Flavours are very authentic and prices aren’t bad either. The only thing that I probably didn’t like was their hotpot, but then that’s probably because I’m not used to Korean hotpot. Would highly recommend this place!
Decided to come here with a group of friends for dinner after we all unanimously decided we were craving Korean fried chicken for dinner. After reading through lots of reviews, decided to give Mook Ji Bar a go and we were not disappointed.
For the 5 of us I ordered the chicken set (which came with a whole original, spicy or soy and garlic fried chicken, ttokboekki = spicy rice cakes, a plate of fried dumplings and two cans of soft drink for $45), another whole fried chicken and the seafood beanpaste stew.
As a Korean I was most surprised by the stew as it reminded me of my mum’s cooking; the soup was deep, rich, clean, flavourful and even came with mussels, clams and half a crab! The fried chicken was juicy, had a nice crunch, and the sauce was very tasty. The portions for all the food we ordered were great and definitely worth their respective prices. We all left full and satisfied with the meal AND it came to less than $20per person!
Despite being full and super busy, service was fast and attentive. Would definitely come back!
Spicy beef soup - very spicy and tasty, lots of meat, vegi, and potato noodle
Soy and garlic chicken - crunchy and very honey sauce. However the sauce is not as thick as I would expect it to be. But still nice
Spicy chicken with cheese - sweet chilli based, cheese is very nice and does not get hard eventhough food is already cold
Side dish - not my favourite
Had the pork cutlet and would say that it's definitely VALUE. Had other things from there since and enjoy the variety of options available but nothing that stood out to me.
used to love the seafood pancake so so much but now it's not the same anymore. However this is still my first choice when it comes to korean food
Very good place if you feel like having Korean food. Their fried chickens and seafood pancake are probably one of the best in the city. The rest are not too bad too. On the last visit we also ordered soup (forgot the name), tteokbokki, and glass noodle. They were all pretty generously served.
I have been here many times but have not had time to rate it. Tonight the friendliness of the staff has nudged me. Food has always been amazing. Service is friendly and the food served quickly. The spicy beef spare ribs never fail to impress with its tenderness and spiciness. Most of the dishes here are spicy but still quite delicious. Small restaurant but well organised tables to get tables of 4s and 6s. Prices are average. No music but with the number of customers here chit chatting, it's probably not neccessary. Of all the Korean restaurants in the city, this one is definitely a safe go-to authentic hangout. It has all the typical Korean dishes, plus the Chef Specials which you won't find at other Korean places.
I was really eager to try the Mook Ji Bar restaurant in Lonsdale street, Melbourne. It was during the weekdays around late lunch time. With a non-stop visitor who are mostly Korean-people that lived in Melbourne, the restaurant is always crowded. Usually, if you want to go there with a groups of people, you need to make a reservation first.
The portion of the food is big enough, so sharing will be a good idea..
I usually get the Bibimbap and Fried chicken with a spicy sauce (extra cheese + whole size) as a mains. It is been recommended by the waitress itself and few of my colleagues.
The Bibimbap was truly delicious! it boosted my appetite really well.. Traditional Korea delicacy food that comes up with the mixed of vegetables, the spicy sauce, seaweed, minced beef and egg on steamed rice. It cost you $AUD 13 per bowl. Served can be choose with hot stone pot or either with a usual bowl (that is your choice but the only different is that if you are using a hot stone pot, the food will not quickly getting frigid) and it cost you $AUD 2 more expensive than using an ordinary bowl..
The fried chicken with spicy sauce + extra cheese has always been my favourite every time i go there. The chef deep fried the chicken first then mixed the fried chicken with the spicy sauce. You can choose whether you want to use extra cheese as a topping(and it cost you + $AUD 3 ) or you prefer not to use it (that is your option). Myself, prefer to use extra cheese because the taste is compatible with each other. The spicy sauce and the parmesan cheese really fit well.
The service is also quite nice but sometimes is quite a slow-work. I think it is because there are so many people who came and they should prioritise the customer who ordered first and then handle the next customer. But I am looking forward to go back as i want to try another menu. My brother also go there and he tried the soup. He said that "the spicy seafood soup is to die for!). I cannot wait to go back there and try it!

We came here for dinner on a Saturday night. We were early, around 6pm so we didn't have to wait for a table. When we left, all the tables were filled up. The staff here are efficient and dishes came out quickly. The restaurant itself is a bit rundown and there were boxes stacked against the walls.
The food here is amazing. We got:
- Pork Bulgolgi: this was our favourite out of all 3, it was a little bit spicy but not overwhelming. The pork was delicous and the sauce was really good.
- Half Fried Chicken with Spicy Sauce: this was our second favourite out of our dishes. The chicken was crispy and thoroughly coated in the sauce. The sauce itself was so yum. The only complaint I have about this dish is the portion size, it was a bit on the small side for the amount of money we paid ($18 for half). But we would still order it again in the future cause it was delicious.
- Kimchi Soup: this was our least favourite of the night. It was good, just not as good as the other dishes. There were lots of kimchi in the soup which was great and the flavour was good but I probably wouldn't order it again.
Overall, the food was really yum and most of it is good value for money. We will definitely be back.
Came here for my little brother bday with the family. Ordered the soy garlic chicken, seafood pancake, kimchi soup, beef bulgogi and rices. The chicken was really good, very crunchy, tasted similar style to KFC. The pancake, kimchi soup and beef bulgogi was deliciously good and so flavourful full!! The only downside was the restaurant was very hot, we were sweating like crazy. But overall still a great experience
Seafood pancake and spicy chicken are both amazing items that u must try! The menu is generally filled with delightful food and I am rexommensing this restaurant to anyone who likes spicy food. The best of korean cusine!
Known for their home-style and authentic Korean food, Mook Ji Bar is a small restaurant conveniently located on Lonsdale St. We arrived on a Wednesday night at 5:30pm and the place already had quite a few customers, but luckily we got a seat straight away!
Although the venue isn’t the cleanest, the staff are friendly and the service is very fast. As it is a small place, it can get quite loud during busy hours. However, the food definitely makes up for all of that!
For a party of 3, we ordered:
- Spicy seafood tofu soup: Very flavourful soup that wasn’t too spicy, perfect to go with rice. It had an assortment of pipis and squid, as well as silky soft silken tofu. Would’ve preferred to have a bit more seafood, but it is a good portion for its price!
- Chicken bulgogi with cheese: The dish came to the table sizzling with red oil and mountains of oozy cheese on top. Though it looks super spicy, it’s actually slightly sweet and very tolerable! The chicken was cooked well, juicy and tender, and the whole dish worked well together!
- Tteokbokki: This dish blew us away! The rice cake was so soft, not chewy at all. The sauce had the perfect level of spiciness, that kept us going for more. It’s also generously packed with fishcake and veggies too!
- Japchae: Probably the best japchae we’ve had! All the ingredients are cooked to perfection, served warm. The noodles are soft and slide right down with ease, and the sauce is super flavourful and not overly sweet (unlike some other places). Definitely a favourite!
On top of all this, we had 2 bowls of rice and an assortment of tasty banchan. The portions are quite big here, so we didn’t end up finishing all the food! Nonetheless, we had such a great meal and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s craving good Korean food for a decent price!
Mook Ji Bar is Korean Restaurant tucked in the busy spot, Lonsdale Street Melbourne CBD.
It is a humbly looking restaurant and doesn't look so promising from outside.
Waitt!! You've got to try this one, this place is always full of people during peak hours (Queue, queue, queue).
We were lucky because we didn't go during peak hour, we came there after peak hour.
The ban chan was pretty nice, we loved the anchovies banchan.
We kept asking them to refill the banchan and they served us with smile and gave it promptly.
The customer staffs were nice and friendly.
We went with a group of 3 and we ordered:
- Spicy soft tofu, seafood, whole egg and vegetable soup for $14.00
The spicy soft tofu, seafood looked very hot as you can see how red the color of the soup.
Actually, it wasn't that hot, the taste was really good.
The portion was generous and the overall taste was very balance.
- Chicken Bulgogi (chicken and vegetables marinated chilli sauce) with cheese $18.00.
The portion was very generous and the marinated chicken with chilli sauce had a stunning taste.
Chicken Bulgogi was perfectly cooked melted with cheese on top, the chicken was very tender and soft.
The sauce wasn't too strong and overwhelming which was great.
Everything was seasoned and cooked well.
Definitely recommend this dish.
Overall, we had a great time having lunch here. Good portion, reasonable price and very decent taste.
You'll be spending around $12.00 - $15.00 each person and surely your tummy would be so happy.
We're happy to add this place in one of our favorite Korean restaurants.

Mook Ji can seem small and insignificant eatery from the outside, but don't let that turn you away. Once seated, you can understand customers continue to come back. Unlike most places, the food isn't trying to prove a point, but instead it tries to make you feel right at home. Comforting and not overwhelming, the flavours work great together to make authentic Korean dishes. But be wary of adding cheese to your fried chicken - I'm a huge fan of cheese but this combination doesn't work here. Otherwise, enjoy!
The restaurant was super busy, but we were served promptly and our food came out pretty quick too!
Had the spicy potato & pork stew and the seafood pancake. Stew was really yummy although a little fiddly with the bones...
The pancake could have been crispier but overall still good
Busy busy authentic Korean restaurant with yummy banchan, a large group of us went and we decided ordered a bunch of food to share but that kinda back fired, the meals came out really quickly almost too quickly we ran out of space. So if you do decided to go as a large group don't order everything at once.
If you love shellfish the seafood stew is value for money $45 came with a mountain of shellfish and there was so much we almost couldn't finish it, I also really enjoyed the potato noddles but wasn't a fan of their seafood & kimchi pancakes.
Portions here are large so don't over order & this place is busy so don't expect service however they're always happy to refill your banchan dishes unlike other Korean restaurant when you ask for refills they take forever or just give you the evil eye.
Looking for authentic and tasty korean food? Look no further. So glad my friends brought me here on my first weekend in melbourne. Don't let the look of the place fool you... open the door and the place is pack! Conveniently located as well. :) some interesting and exotic dishes - gonna give it a go next round!
First Korean food experience in Melbourne. Had to wait in line for up to 50minutes as the place was full. The table we were seated was a little too small considering the number of dishes that we ordered. My favourite dish by far would be their cheesy chicken! However, their other dishes were decent. On a side note, their seafood pancake could be more flavourful and less bland. Atmosphere was so so. Food was reasonably priced.
Mook Ji Bar has been my go to place for a korean craving fix for a long time. They have an array of typical korean dishes but I must recommend the Spicy Chicken with Cheese and the Japchae. One might argue that there are better fried chicken out there but the Japchae is second to none in Melbourne. It has the flavour and texture of a proper japchae. Never soggy or bland like many I have tried. It is properly sitr-fried. Has what the chinese call "wok-hei". Bloody delicious.
One of my favourite Korean restaurants in the city. The food is absolutely delicious and really makes the value absolutely stunning. I give this's place my DAWG approval
Finally tried the pretty famous korean restaurant on CBD area. It has variety of foods on the menu which make me want to come back and try for other foods, Not much side dishes provided but they can refill it so it was pretty good. Ordered the seafood pancake and soy garlic fried chicken with cheese. The seafood pancake just taste normal, nothing special about it. However, the soy garlic fried chicken taste nice (although it is not my favourite fried chicken)!

Loved it! Such a great experience for Korean food. Mook Ji Bar is especially good when you have them at a cold night. The spiciness is just right! I dont even like spicy but this was really good. I've been craving to come back and have the soy bean paste soup again! The pork bulgogi was also really yummy! The taste was very balanced, i loved it so much. Looking at the food pictures that i took makes me extremely hungry because they were really good!
The food is good here, I have try a lot of dishes from here and the portion size of the dishes are pretty generous and prices for the food is also cheap. There is always a long wait, toilet and kitchen not really that clean. Some of the staff are ok but there's one waitress with short hair and glasses and is rude to customer. She never smile and is moody. 😀
Wasn't really in the mood for korean food.. but came here anyway. I ordered chives pancake because I didn't wany anything too heavy.
BUT!! Their pajjeon was hugee.. and pretty thick. I love it!! A little bit crispy but still very moist inside. It still tasted pretty good for a takeaway too.
Mook Ji Bar is always my favourite Korean restaurant , especially their Fried Spicy chicken with Cheesee on top and the spicy beef stew. Sometime you have to wait for table.
Service was friendly, and you can see the kitchen too.
Food: 8.5/10
Service: 8/10
Price: 8/10
Initially I intended to give 3.5-star, but I would end up with 4 for some reasons. The ambience ain't good at all due to the old and bad decorations. The staffs are friendly is a plus. Food is served pretty quick. The flavours are good, unfortunately I'm not really happy with the Soy Sauce Fried-Chicken. It's kind of overcooked and the sauce hasn't been well absorbed. However, the combo in the image is $45 which well serve 3 persons has saved the score I would give.
We went here a few time to have lunch, the service was good and the food come really fast!
If you come here try the anchovy side dish. It's really nice!
I went to eat pork bulgogi and beef ribs.
The pork bulgogi is a must try. The thinly sliced pork belly is cooked trough perfection, its really soft, sweet and savory. It will melt in your mouth.
But hence, the spare ribs taste a little bland, because the red pepper paste taste is too strong.
Overall it's a good dine in experience.👏🏻
After tasting some Korean fried chicken out there, Mookji is considered as one of the best so far. I rate this which based on the crunchiness and the sauce taste. However, I feel there is an inconsistency in the cooking as I have had the same menu within these two months.
Couple of months ago I had the best smoked garlic soy chicken, yet last night it tasted differently. I could taste the sweet and umaminess with a generous amount of sauce. Yet last night, salty was overpower the taste. I would say it was sill good, but I would prefer the previous one.
Despite above matter, all others were okay. The snow chicken, pancake, and of course the bulgogi squid were amazing.
Loved the mackerel i would definitely order it again. I also ordered the korean cheese chicken probably my favorite. I was so excited i forgot to take a photo. And the staff is super friendly too!!
Great as always. Sadly menu has shrunk again. Quality is still great and seemingly better due to the smaller menu.
The kfc is always good and the Samgtye tang is something i woulf recommened when you are feeling under the weather.
Today (01/08/22) i had Spicy beef spare rib, it was served with rice and is delicious, abit spicy and very hearty and filling
The dumplings are great as a starter or side.
Will continue to go to Mook ji bar as i have for a long time
Incredible incredible incredible!! absolutely loved this place : )
Wish I could give more than 5 stars.
We’ve ordered Truffle Mushroom Bibimbap, Braised Pork Belly, and Eggplant, Amazing vegan dish but also satisfying for a non vegan like me.
Food amazing. Customer service amazing. I've been coming here for a while before lockdowns. First time back since lockdown lifted and definitely didn't disappoint.
Highly recommended. Should try the spicy beef ribs, the seafood pancake and the Korean bbq pork belly.
New menu post lock down. Went for our favourite gamchatang, but no longer on the menu. Decided to give the set dinner menus a try. The side dishes were delicious and on point. All with distinct and tasty textures and flavours. The main dishes were also good too. Finished with a small but sufficient bingsu (also included in the set meal). Whopping value for under $30.00. Sad to see some old fav dishes go, but the revamp has some real good offerings.
Their new concept in serving the dish was really good. The menus options are an excellent value. The food was fresh and awesome, Then we also had dessert and that was really good as well. Highly Recommended.
