We really enjoy visiting the transport hotel. The rooftop area is fantastic… its almost always buzzing with locals and travellers. Great food, drinks and views. There usually a bit of live music to enjoy over the weekend which is an added bonus.
Transport Bar, which is bang opposite to Flinders Station, situated on the Federation Square, scores high on the Vibe, Chick Decor, Happy Attendants, Good Choices of Drinks and A very accommodating Chef who managed to grill the Pizzas perfectly crisp, as requested by us on a Busy Friday evening.
Our two cents on Pizzas: Decent!! (Nothing out of this world)
We totally LOVED it.
Came here for dinner to catch up with a friend, we had a pizza to share and some beer, such a nice place. Next time we will sit outside and enjoy the view!
Until 15 March 2019, Club Aperol will be popping up at the Transport Hotel located in Melbourne’s Federation Square. Expect to enjoy one of Melbourne’s best dining venues over $12 Aperol Spritz every day! For an amazing Sunday Session, you can grab your friends, enjoy a 2x Aperol Spritz + Charcuterie Board for $40 served from our Aperol Spritz pop up cart.
I ordered the tandoori chicken pizza. I was skeptical they could pull it off, but they did and I loved it: subtle spice; succulent, tasty chicken; soft, creamy potatoes. My only suggestion would be to drizzle some of the complimentary Sriracha sauce on it to give it more kick.
I also ordered a bowl of chips, which were perfect – temperature, saltiness, crispiness.
The friendly, easygoing staff staff, and the sunny, not-overly-loud ambience completed a very pleasant experience.
I picked one of their stone-fired pizzas. The ‘Napoli, mozzarella, ham, mushroom, artichoke, olive ($13.00)’ pizza was the perfect size for one person. The base was thin and crispy and the artichokes were succulent.
Great selection of meals and drinks. Enjoyed the chicken Parma topped with bacon, chips were a bit too soft and loved the tandoori chicken pizza just the right amount of spice. Free wi fi. Bright airy space. Quick service
Delicious and quick pub grub. The sardines were amazing. My only criticism would be the cost of food and drinks is probably a bit on the steep side considering how casual the atmosphere is.
Gosh I haven't been here in ages! Popped in for a pre drink as had dinner booked across at Chocolate Buddha. Transport has a mix of people and last night had typical Fri night after work crowd. Good mix of tap beers and there was happy hour on wine. I haven't had a beer in such a long time so had the Kirin on tap and it was refreshing. Location is great being opposite Flinders station and the pub is a good size with heaps of space and great city views.
Great location and good pub food, went for lunch with work mates and it was really impressive, if you want to indulge and spend some $$ a nice place in the city
Transport is a very decent bar with a pretty good venue and look. The drinks are decent enough and the food I have tasted better than average. My concern is more about how busy and loud they get and how difficult it is to get served or hear your friends at your table due to this..
Delicious corn, definitely worth purchasing :) had a Mike Wazowski which hit the spot perfectly on this hot day! Kid friendly with a few high chairs.
Came here for lunch with a mate not long before xmas, based of his recommendation.
The venue is quiet big and very open with lots of seating options from balcony spaces with booths to normal indoor seating to a beer garden style front area.
The venue has more of a pub vibe then it does as
a restaurant with its main focus on the bar and drinks rather then food although the food menu is pretty decent, it's not table service though so once you order at the counter they will give you a buzzer to come collect your food which is served in plastic baskets, again very pub-like!
We ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich, the beef burger, crispy chicken wings and the shoe string fries along with a cocktail jug of Long Island ice tea for good measure!
The food was surprisingly good as I was not expecting much from this place. The burger was solid, the steak sandwich was rich in a tasty bbq flavour, the chips had a really good peri-peri seasoning and the chicken wings were cooked really well, crispy but succulent snd perfect with the dipping sauce.

Lunch dates with girlfriends is such an awesome thing; infact it must be made legit and compulsory. That few precious hours snatched away from the daily grind and routine is such a relaxing experience for me. I am lucky to have a few but a solid bunch of girlfriends here in Melbourne with whom I meet at varying frequencies. And we always try and meet up for lunch at restaurants in and around the city which also gives us an opportunity to try out a new place each time. So this time, we headed to the Transport Public Bar in the CBD.
Steak night! It’s a tradition like parma night and pasta night, infact some pubs can take care of dinner every night with a bargain foodie theme. I am a big fan of steak night at the mo with my diet consisting of protein and greens so when not wanting to call out I’m being awkward about what I eat, head to a steak night.
Came in for a rest and retreat (oh ok, the football may to, have been on...!) and was pleasantly surprised by the array of offerings in a wonderful ambient venue.
Ordered the kids fish, chips and peas ($9.50) for the youngling to go with my carafe of mint and lychee sangria - a Sunday special...
Amazing views, relaxed vibe and a range of drinks and prices. We weren't here for long, nor did we eat, but I will return to get the full experience!
Love the cocktails! Seriously a fantastic place with your friends for drinks and a bowl of amazing (gluten free) chips! The rooftop is fantastic and they have a huge selection of cocktails. A city favourite!

Went here on a Friday night with a friend. Ambience was interesting at what my friend described as 'like the most bogan bar in Melbourne'. But this was more than made up for by the ridiculously good happy hour deals for cocktails (which included a $10 seemingly chocolate jaffa inspired espresso martini), as well as the excellent value for money steaks which the chefs actually knew how to do rare.
I think this is a perfect place to grab a quick meal before the footy or concert. It's always busy but once you snag a seat and order the food comes out pretty quickly. I enjoy having a few entrees to share, the salt and pepper calamari or popcorn chicken always go down a treat.
Great views of the city. Interesting people watching. Good for a beer before football. Nice acoustic entertainment today. Happy hour $5 drinks. Can't be bad. Lunch pre footy MCG. Prompt service and good pub meal.
Always nice for an afternoon sesh it you get a table outside, cocktails are weak so I recommend you stick the beer and wine. Great atmosphere and I am yet to be let down by the food, awesome burgers, great steak sandwich and yummy popcorn chicken😋
On our last night in Melbourne, we decided on a quick dinner at Transport Public Bar in Federation Square to give us fuel for a long night. Spanning three levels, the bar was thoroughly alive and we were curious to see how the food would also pan out.
Food:When we looked at the menu, two things immediately struck us – first, there were foods from so many cultures including Asian, European and Australian and, second, the prices were incredibly decent! Feeling very hungry, we ordered what could fairly be described as a smorgasbord; an Angus porterhouse steak with onion rings, battered fish and chips, BBQ pork buns, chips with melted brie and Malaysian chicken rings.
One of the best finds in Melbourne. Modern bar, great beers, amazing food. Right in the middle of fed square. Would recommend to anyone travelling to Melbourne
Posted by FoodieAboutTown on Saturday, May 16, 2015 · Leave a Comment Broome came a knockin’ recently and were we glad to meet them! Matsos Brewery from Broome are bringing their big beer flavours to the whole of Australia and we were lucky enough to have a very special night at Transport Hotel and try some new beers with some great food. Matsos Brewery has that family feel to it, everyone is very passionate and rightfully proud of their product and they have remember their historical roots fondly and make sure everyone knows including their mascot ‘Diver Dan’ heralding from the days of pearl fishing, Dan now travels around introducing the Matsos way to the world. Beer and Food Matching, it’s the new Wine and Food matching! With just as much love, science, effort and finessing in making your beer these days, they deserve a little of your time and some special consideration when choosing the right food flavours to partner with. We have a wonderful menu in front of us at Transport where the guys have worked with the Chef to make sure we get the very best from our Mango Beer tonight. So – Mango Beer, I don’t think I have ever had this before, I have a few Belgium beers that add some lovely fruit flavours but never the Matsos Mango beer. And I love it! It is softer than a normal beer, it immediately feels less gassy and gentle, without being too acridly sweet from the fruit. It’s a winner! And with food, even better! We were really spoilt on the night, but I think the best matches for me were the mini snapper pies and the mini chicken sliders …. And the polenta chips …. And the prawns….. yes they were all amazing!! But Matsos does more than a damn good Mango beer, they also have a famous alcoholic Ginger which was fantastic! I can imagine that on a sunny afternoon over ice with some lime… maybe a touch of Frangelico!
Transport doesn't pretend to be more than it is. Which is a bar where you drop in passing through the city. Lovely on a sunny Saturday arvo people watching out the window, Richmond fans walking in after a win down the road. So Melbourne, it even smells like a Saturday in here! It's noisy, big screens blaring some sort of sport, food is cheap & cheerful. How good is that!
Festivus - its pub food but ...... Its good pub food don’t expect more as your paying more
Burger and parma good...but again
Got those shoe string fries we all love though
Nice for Sunday drinks. Can't speak much for Friday/Saturday nights at Transport, but $12 cider jugs on a Sunday make for a nice, relaxing day off. Great selection of beer and cider, and good, cheap food. Love the chunky chips, they're delicious and the serving is huge for only $10. Staff are friendly and the atmosphere is chilled out.
Wow looked at reviews and was 50:50 lucky I came in, had a few hours till kill before flight home. I had the Delux double decker chicken sandwich....super is all I can say... Loved it and staff really nice..
Good food!. I came here with a few friends and I ordered the burger and fries and my friends ordered a few things to share.
The burger was juicy and the fries were so crisp.
The outdoor area is a great set up and it was all round an enjoyable experience. I would definitely go back.
Great Place. Great Food and atmosphere. Greeted warmly after being told by neighbouring Feddish that they would not put our order through as we were not ordering enough food to qualify as dinner even though we mentioned we were there for drinks and cake as stated on their signage.
Great Food. Thank you Transport Chef for your amazing food. Being American went for the beef sliders, buffalo wings & hickory smoked chicken burger. The dishes were easily as good if not better than our favorite restaurants back home. We had a great NYE at Transport although the service could have been more friendly the food more than made up for it! Happy New Year Mark & Jess.
GOOD FOOOOOOD. Transport's quinoa salad with pan-fried Tasmanian salmon is one of the best meals I've had in a long time! Awesome flavours and the salmon was cooked perfectly. I wanted seconds, will definitely be back again soon!

Who would have thought they would make good food but the food is actually quite good, reasonably priced and exceeded our expectations
8 of us got meals one night and they were all first class
Good place for those nights out
Pretty standard modern mainstream pub. Decent for touristy vibe. Good hangout on Sunday arvo.
Come here with my partner and shared a transport club sandwich which was big enough to fill us both, pretty tasty sandwich and is the 3rd time I've ordered it.
Just been into Transport for a bite before the footy and I must say what a great experience. We ordered the lamb burger and pie which were both of good size and came out in good time. The burger was a quality pattie with crisp lettuce, onion, cheese and home made ketchup. The pie came encased in tasty pastry with a side of ye creamiest mash potato sitting on top of a rich gravy.
All in all, a great start to the afternoon.
Casual pub food in the Sun with a beer. Its good enough here that you can enjoy your quality pub food , sit outside in the sun or just at the window and watch all the tourists go by. Prices are good for what you get and a massive selection of beers rounds out a good arvo. Never been at night though so things might change then.
Really good steak and a decent beer selection.. Transport has a cool atmosphere. The food is also pretty good for a gastropub, had the steak and was not disappointed, a very nice cut of meat, all washed down with a pint or two of Squires 50 lashes. Take a stroll down the Yarra and finish here...nice!
Just smashed an awesome scotch fillet steak. Great flavour and super juicy and tender. The garlic butter was incredible. Highly recommended!
In true NoSugarVember fashion, I ordered the 300g scotch fillet steak with garlic butter and undressed salad. I've learnt my lesson from past experiences and ordered it medium rare with the idea that they'll overcook it and then it'll be just right. They refused the steamed veggie replacement for the chips and after I paid at the counter, I felt a little jibbed - $29 for steak and salad... My first bite was bliss. Tender, juicy meat cooked perfectly medium. It fell apart in my mouth with minimal chewing.
Stopped by on the way to watch the mighty Pies light up the MCG. Very tasty and fresh food. Place was packed as well which is always a good sign. Will be back!
Great atmosphere. Majority of the staff were joyful and happy to serve you food and drinks. Nice decor near the music stage and sun streamed in of a late arvo and evening. Live music throughout the evenings. I ordered the nachos and the loaded fries and a cocktail on two seperate nights. The portion could feed two people and was lacking salad or vegetables unfortunately. I walked out feeling stuffed because I love food! But a healthy balance would be a great approach for the future. I did order a salad seperstly but did take food home as l couldn't finish it. Thanks for a great time!!
I have been here many times, day and night. Always something on there and easy to get in as it’s for all ages. Can get busy at the bar but now has table order service. I like the pub food and like the dedicated glassware. They have live music on regularly which is great for a lazy Saturday or Sunday session.
The pastrami roll with sauerkraut was good, and location is very convenient for after-work drinks before catching the train home.
Wow, had an amazing meal and Bloody Mary here at transport. Food was excellent, couldn’t wait to photograph. Bloody Mary on the other hand earned the place on my camera roll.. 10/10 Bibi knew what he was doing..
Wow what a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon watching the people rush through the city
And never forgetting the wonderful entertainment
The amazing voice of Lisa Mio who l have had the privilege to see her sing lead in The Wild Dreamers
Wow definitely worth seeing .Lisa leads the way
Lets keep supporting the live music industry it definitely needs us to keep going when ever we can And not forgetting this amazing man next to her in these photos incredible voice and great on the guitar
Yes l could easily spend all of my weekends listening to wonderful musicians like these two
Perfect spot at the rooftop with fab night views. Very friendly staff
