Review Quanjude Peking Duck Restaurant - Melbourne

Chloe Choo
Best peking duck I’ve had! Chef carves the duck at your table when it’s not too busy. Get the salt and pepper duck frame instead of the soup! Also tried the Special Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Deep Fried Pork Ribs and they were great too! Such a gorgeous dining area, staff are very polite and helpful too. Can be busy on weekends so booking recommended. 📷 Whole Peking duck set, Steamed, Japanese Scallops with Garlic and Vermicelli Special Fried Rice, Sweet & Sour Deep Fried Pork Ribs

Been here a few times now and absolutely love it! Plus my picky Chinese friends said it's one of the most authentic, long standing name for Peking Duck. Legit! The duck frame then being roasted with salt pepper, super tasty and creative for a 'by product'. The seafood soup (with abalone, sea cucumber...) is my go to every time. If you love broth based you gotta try it. It is so so good. Also enjoy the lamb, snake beans very much. Last, very important, i thought it would be way more expensive for the location and interior but the price is reasonable. You could have walked in any other cheap looking restaurant and spent nearly the same. (about 60-80pp + drink, amount of food is generous)

Hard to find any faults on the night we dined here. Quanjude is know for its Peking Duck, and I’ve had a lot of good ones - happy to add this restaurant to that list! They prepare it 3 ways - crispy skin on its own with salt, Peking duck pancakes, then the bones in either a soup or a dry salt rub. We also had the tofu seafood hotpot (lots of abalone, scallops and mussels), and the incredible ‘squirrel fish’ type dish, of a whole coral trout with sweet vinegar sauce. Ambience and service was fantastic too. One negative was the alcohol - a G&T barely had any gin in it, and a mojito was… interesting. Stick with the teas, beers and wines perhaps

Food was good. Service was ok. Toilets were a big big let down. So dirty and the water didn’t work. None of taps to wash your hands were working. Ran out of some wines. Ran out of desserts. My god!!

It has been 5 years since I first time came here. A traditional Chinese Beijing Cuisine restaurant. Unfortunately they already changed their menu. Peking duck is good, especially the sauce, very nice, but it is not fresh baked, this kept in a warm container, so the taste is just so so, but I do not want to ask too much, this state still could be one of the top in Australia. This cabbage 🥬 really normal, the taste of cabbage is just the taste of cabbage, not the taste mixed with the stock. I am a bit disappointed ☹️ . I give 4 stars for this traditional restaurant still in open and good service. I hope Quanjude could be better taste in the future.

Nice open environment with traditional Chinese setting, however ambience was a bit awkward due to quiet service. Food was good and the pancakes for the Peking duck was delicious. Only improvement can be made was on service as it was pretty much a one man show. The waiter was very lovely and accommodating, however he was overwhelmed with serving about 8 customers all on his own. It was difficult to get his attention at times, but he was all on his own. Perhaps they have issues with staffing. Would have given 5 stars if service wasn't an issue.

Succulent Peking duck! Really enjoyed the flavour. Customer service was great too.

I think this restaurant is way underrated. The pekking ducks are very tasty (probably one of the best peeking duck restaurants I have been to in Melbourne), their Supreme golden soup is delicious. Great services. Staff are very kind and helpful. Nice atmosphere, nice decoration. Price is not much higher than other pekking ducks in other suburbs (actually quite reasonably with the quality). Although I enjoyed the quietness while eating with my family, I think they deserve better rating and should have higher recognition.

BEST PEKING DUCK!

We have booked a business dinner. The manager over there is so nice and willing to answer all our question when helping us to decide the food.T he whole dinner is perfect and give us a reasonable price. It's really hard to find a decent place for a real Chinese meal with a delicate environment in Melbourne right now.

I have to say this is the best quality opening duck in Melbourne, the brand is from China ( I love this brand in China and it is really popular ). Been here with my family, they had function room and the special chair. The seafood is really fresh, and the price is not that high! Will keep back to this place!

We were there and waited about one hour for any food, specially for the the Peking duck for which we come, they gave us the sauce and cucumber first to make us stay, then waited and waited....it doesn't seem that the owner cares about customers at all, such a really bad experience.
Eat Good Melbourne
Quanjude originates from China where the Peking duck chain has over 50 restaurants, Melbourne was the company’s first branch outside of Asia with Sydney second to follow. The venue itself is quite opulent compared to the standard Chinatown paper table cloth restaurant. Quanjude boasts high ceilings, chandeliers, golden chairs and red drapes. I was hesitant to try after reading some poor reviews but my plan B wasn’t open so decided to give it a try. We were greeted by the host and led downstairs to our table. It’s a large restaurant but the main area was quite full for a Monday night with atleast three bigger tables being occupied. I ordered the whole Peking duck set and the boyfriend wanted a crab claw (deep fried entree). We didn’t wait very long for the food but it was a little longer than I am used to considering the duck is already cooked and the sides are normally ready to go as well however I will take into consideration there were big groups and food was constantly coming out for them before ours was served. The crab claw was nice and filled with other ingredients however not worth the $13 in our opinion. Then the duck arrived. The duck carver begins by carving the most crispy skin off the duck from the neck and back and this is served with sugar and salt. Then he proceeds to slice the meat and ensures it is well presented. You can hear the crispy skin being sliced as he works his way around the duck. The duck itself is very soft and the skin is crisp. The pancakes are thin and moist and very even from centre to the edges. The sauce was sweet and smooth. The set also comes with soup which was very bland. Definitely one of the better Peking ducks I’ve tried in Melbourne. I’d compare it to the Michelin Star Peking duck at imperial treasure in Singapore. I can’t fault the service, they were accommodating and attentive. Will definitely be back for more Peking duck.

Don’t be fooled by the fancy furniture and beautiful interior. When I came into the restaurant, the atmosphere was quite nice and calming. Once my friends and I were seated, we ordered our food as anyone would at a restaurant. However, the food took 45 minutes to come out (we ordered the whole peking duck and 2 servings of pan fried dumplings). The peking duck portions were so small, and usually, soup or another dish is made from the left over bones or meat from the duck. We assumed the $79 whole duck included the additional dish, but in reality, it costed an additional $20. Keep in mind that the servers did not tell us it costed more and told us to get the dish, giving the impression that it was free. Something that was even more irritating was that the tea that costed $3 per cup, added up to $18 because the worker kept refilling without letting us know that it costed extra money. The workers were kind of slow, and it took 10 minutes for them to bring the bill. Honestly, my experience at this restaurant was by far the worst. Feedback: let the customer know the additional prices before you suggest the dish to them as we were unaware of paying an extra $38 dollars for things we didn’t know we were paying for. We had extremely high hopes for this place, but were disappointed with the lack of respect and the hidden scams. Without a doubt, I will never ever come again.

Had dinner here with friends, Peking duck carved at the table and steamed baskets of pancakes with an abundance of cucumber and springonion. Although there wasn't enough pancakes given to eat with the tasty duck slices you had before you, so you had to pay for the remaining pancakes, disappointing. Then followed by the soup which wasn't pleasant, Fatty tasting and cloudy, tasteless and warm. Steamed fillet of Barramundi, sweet and sour pork and fried rice wasn't bad although very pricey. <br/><br/>

Food 4/5<br/>Service 5/5<br/>Environment 4/5<br/><br/>A traditional Peking duck which you can wrap by yourself after the chef slice the duck in the front of you. They provide enough cucumber and spring onion, which the best partner for the Peking duck with traditional sauce. The service is perfect, make you feel comfortable. The other dishes al become the western taste. Just average.

Haven’t been to the place but do a take away. The duck is good, and the lotus bread is tender as well. I think it is the authentic flavor compared to the peikin duck in China.

Went here for dinner, food was amazing as was the service, definitely worth a try. We were very impressed with the delicacy of the juicy white meat & as they are far larger than the regular Peking ducks
Alison Zeng
The Peking roasted duck is not crispy enough while the pastry skin is too thick. Other dishes are very light that tastes more like Cantonese cuisine. Overall, the ambience dishes and service are just average.

Good food good company best tasting parking duck in the cbd. Other food was alright also and the staff members were friendly. Will be back soon

Came here recently and was quite impressed with their dishes! The duck indeed was small when you see the whole duck but had loads of meat. Food was quite tasty and will definitely be back. I am surprised the restaurant wasn’t full!

Peking duck with style. Super crispy and tasty with wafer thin spring onions. Very grand setting, high ceilings and table cloth coupled with great service. Concise selection of reds and great mains (especially the king prawns and the eggplant).

Small hidden restaurant, but it was pretty spacious for the interior. They are known for their peking duck and delicious dishes. Have since left melbourne but always missing the great taste!

My all time favourate Chinese restraunt in Melbourne. You would thought it be pricy, but for the quality, it is cheap! True aithentic flavour and high quality food. They are under new management recently, highly recommend everyone to try. So far I havent tried a bad dish over the years. Love it so much.

It doesn’t get more authentic than the Peking Duck from Quanjude! Hailing from the Chinese capital of Beijing, this outlet offers the finest in quality and a service that tops any Chinese restaurant that I’ve been to in Melbourne!<br/><br/>The food: we came in with a group of 4 and ordered the full duck, a fresh fish, the Peking eggplant as well as the chefs special pepper beef. All the dishes were outstanding, with deep flavours, not overly oily (what you often get at your local Chinese) and highest quality ingredients. The star of the show - the Peking Duck. Freshly carved in front of us, the crispy skin has a subtle flavour to it that was perfect when dipped in a little bit of sugar or hoisin sauce. The wrappers were delicate but stable enough to hold a couple of slices of perfect Duck, some vegetables and sauce. I couldn’t stop but unfortunately had to when the meat was gone. The fish was another outstanding fish and that comes from someone who generally isn’t the biggest fish fan. The eggplant was my second highlight after the duck. The dish came with some super tasty mushrooms in a delicate sauce and some sliced capsicum. The beef was as tender as it gets with a sauce that was both delicate but still packed a punch.<br/><br/>The service: super attentive, better than in some fine dining establishments in Melbourne. You don’t ever feel rushed and the Chinese music in the background makes the experience even more relaxing.<br/><br/>The pricing: you may wonder why it is not a 5/5. While the pricing for almost all the dishes was more than acceptable, the fish shocked us with $177! The price per kg that was given to us was $80 and we expected maximum this as the fish didn’t look that big to us. But hey it was worth it as everything tasted fantastic and it was a special occasion after all.<br/><br/>Overall, highly recommend to try the duck and some of the other dishes. Just beware of the market priced fish.

Waiter was very helpful in suggesting how many dishes to order for the number of persons. Peking Duck was incredible, I would think it serves more pieces than other places, but probably because meat is cut thinner than others.
Eating Away Melbourne
This is the best Peking Duck in Melbourne. Have been coming back again and again every time Im craving Peking Duck. Had half a duck, Kongpao Chicken&Prawn and Seafood stew today and they were all amazing. Duck also came with duck soup which is definitely a bonus. Service was extremely attentive and friendly. Will be back!

Greatest peking duck in melbourne! Highly recommend anyone who loves chinese food to try this place. The friend rice is also a must try dish.

Quanjude- traditionally known for their Peking duck. They used to cut the duck in front of you and prepare it in several other dishes (vegetable dish & soup) if I remember correctly.<br/>Currently, they charge $78 for a whole duck but no longer slice the duck pieces in front of you and only offers you soup. The vegetable sides given (sliced cucumber & spring onion- were dried up and not fresh). Upon arrival we had ordered this first and had expected it to come prior to our main dishes but instead our Peking duck came 1 hour after the arrival of our main dishes? This was ridiculous... Duck skin was crispy but there isn’t enough pancakes serving... Rating : 3/5<br/>Ordered 2 other dishes- scallops & vegetables (served with snow peas) and salt and pepper prawns and the portion size was definitely not worth $40 per dish.... <br/>In the scallop & vegetable dish the corn sticks were cut into a quarter and mushroom were cut in half. I must say for $42 I definitely didn’t get my money’s worth. Absolutely ridiculous how they actually cut corn up like that because I’m sure corn doesn’t cost that much. <br/>The menu states the salt & peppered prawns dish was ‘spicy’ but didn’t taste any spiciness when the prawns were served.<br/>Taste for both dish was average. Rating: 3/5<br/>Service was average, staff weren’t very friendly. Rating: 2/5<br/><br/>Would I be coming back again? No<br/>Would I recommend this restaurant to family & friends? No, because the portion size won’t fill you up and definitely overpriced.

The restaurant is well decorated, feels like Chinese empire palace. The Peking duck tastes ok, if you order a whole duck, you can get an ID of the duck you eat. But have to say it’s not cheap tho...

I made an online booking for a group of 8 people on January 10 to entertain friends and receive the "booking confirmation" message. When we arrived at the restaurant at 6:15, it was closed. A notice on the door said the restaurant will be closed from January 8 to 22. It is very puzzling as the restaurant websites and other social media listed it as "open". We tried to call the restaurant, turns out to their phone is also "disconnected". Our was looking forward to a good evening, but it turned out to be very embarrassing and disappointed.

Beijing or Melbourne? ..... Take your pick ...<br/><br/>If opulent surrounding is what you are looking for while enjoying those ducks, then stick to Melbourne, don't fly all the way to Beijing .... and you need a VISA to get in.<br/><br/>Having said that, we've had the privilege of dining at Quanjude Beijing. <br/><br/>Beijing being Beijing everything is BIG, a couple storeys of dining hall, all for the same reason, to eat their world famous duck .... there's a big Yellow Duck greets you as you enter the front door.<br/><br/>Well, this is Melbourne, more class and sophistication, more on the Menu, being biased, better ducks here and no big Yellow Duck, also definitely more expensive.<br/><br/>Your choice .....

This is new my favourite Peking duck restaurant. Why you ask? Well, it does duck exactly the way I like it & the way it should be. <br/>Crispy skin (surely this is a must), thin slices, lean (major chunks of fat or duck meat are just eww). You get lots of pancakes & you get to do it yourself - to ensure the right duck to sauce ratio. <br/>Plus we had kungpo beef with brocollini & cashews, which was also lovely but the Peking duck stole my heart. <br/>I've already started texting friends to tell them we'll be eating there next time. Yum yum. And it was pretty cheap considering the portions. I want more now! <br/>Service was very attentive. Venue is gorgeous. Bonuses really to that duck (I'll stop now 😉)

no wonder why no booking is needed, because u cant call them at all. 'sorry the number you call is not available, please check your number and dell again'<br/>food is average standard. duck is soo small that one people can finish one.

Always love to dine here with family. We obtained a certificate indicating the number of duck we eat that day. I love the juiciness and how succulent the Peking Duck is. Combined with thin wrap and tasty hoisin sauce, always make me to come back for more. Service was top notch. Atmosphere was royal-like dining room, very posh and elegant.

Came here for the Peking duck, nicely presented always, they used to slice it in front of you last time, but no longer now. <br/><br/>Forgot to take a picture of the crab meat stir fried veggie (from the recommended by chef 1st page), that was very good, not too salty and we can eat it without rice. Make sure you ask for snow peas leave, otherwise they will give you spinach, I find match better with snow peas leave.

Peking duck? More like PEAKING duck.<br/><br/>On the agenda to conquer all of the Melbourne restaurants Zomato has to offer, tonight we visited Quanjude for a dear family members' milestone 50th birthday.<br/><br/>Quanjude has a name for Melbourne's best peaking duck, so we thought we would test it out. What a way to celebrate a special evening than beginning the night with 3 whole ducks. Yes ladies and gentlemen, we said THREE - go big or go home, right? Sure goes, it was possibly the best peaking duck we (as agreed by 21/21 people) have had to date. What a fantastic start to yet another food adventure.<br/><br/>As the night progressed and the main meals were brought out (see pictured), every person attending was left satisfied. Every meal was GOOD, but seemed to be not GREAT - possibly as they didn't reach the mark of the super high standard left by the entree of peaking duck. Although every dish was a little tastier than the standard Chinese cuisine meal, I will point out the only disappointment was the excessive batter on the sweet and sour pork. Otherwise, every other meal was authentic in taste, generous in portion size and left us super satisfied.<br/><br/>In terms of ambience, service and value, the only stand out of these categories was the setting of the restaurant. The uniforms of staff, tableware and decor was super oriental themed, yet seemed somewhat authentic and definitely worth a mention. Service was slightly above average considering the standard of usual service at Chinese restaurants. Overall, the value? Can't say we will be visiting frequently as the prices are higher than average, however if you are after super amazing peaking duck, definitely check it out at least once.<br/><br/>Food: 3.5/5<br/>Ambience: 4/5<br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Value: 3/5<br/><br/>Overall: 3.5/5<br/><br/>Rixon Wong

Been here a few times and the quality of food and service is quite consistent. Lucky for us that each time we were here there is at least one good and reliable floor staff. <br/><br/>We usually made table reservations and ordered Peking duck a day prior. And we ordered other dishes when we arrived so that the other dishes can be ready while we enjoy our Peking duck. This time around we ordered Peking duck and other dishes when we made table reservation. Just because it was an important occasion and we want to just get there and eat. <br/><br/>Since we have been here quite a few times, i am not going to list down every single dishes we had tried. As per picture below, it’s superior shark fin soup. The broth is tasty and the crab meat is fresh. The genius of this is that the candle below kept the soup warm, perfect for slow eater like me. The Peking duck is my favourite and is also what Quan Jude is famous for. The difference between Peking duck here and other famous Peking duck restaurants is that it is less oily and sliced at the correct size for me. No too thin (basically cant feel the meat when I bit into the wrapped) or too thick which I can only wrapped a piece of meat otherwise the pancake will be broken. Other dishes here is pretty standard. They had their hit and miss. But their dishes is towards saltier side which doesn’t bother me and should work well if you have the dishes with steamed /jasmine rice. They don’t have any stand out dessert.<br/><br/>Decor of this restaurant is pretty fancy (in traditional Chinese theme). And they usually only busy and booked out during chinese celebrations like Chinese New Year eve, mooncake festivals etc. So it’s usually quiet on normal days which means I get to enjoy my food slowly and in peace. <br/><br/>This restaurant located at the basement although entry is at the main door and they don’t have elevator. I will have to leave the pram on the ground floor unless you don’t mind carrying the pram down flight of stairs. <br/><br/>One draw back of my latest visit was the restaurant manager was questioning the floor staff about the back of the house related questions while standing next to our table and not in a low or courteous tone and I find it unprofessional.<br/><br/>Food items in the Chinese and English menu vary slightly. <br/><br/>Will return again.

Tell you a funny story, you have to listen, this is the worst customer service I have ever had, normally you wont expect too much from Chinese restaurant however consider the price of this Peking duck restaurant, I was expecting a little bit different.<br/><br/>Three of us ordered a vegetable dish and half Peking duck, so thought we might need another dish, as we are all not big eater, we were thinking about a fish, the top item from the fish section is a pepper sour steamed fish, so we asked the waiter is this spicy( I wanna something spicy), the answer is YES, so we order this one, have a look at the picture, how this dish can be described as spicy??????? <br/><br/>Then we asked him what kind of fish, he said oh didn't you know normally restaurant all sell barramadi? We were like No, we don't know, I don't care what normally restaurant sells, I just need to know what is your restaurant serve? He said it's Barramadi, ok fine. We kindly asked him if we can have the smaller one as we are not big eater, he simply responded that all the fish are standard size and exactly the same size, excuse me! We just want to have a smaller one, I bet you all the fish are different size. Ok fine, after we done with the order, he came back saying oh the fish is not barramadi. (What a joke). <br/><br/>Last we ordered the fish, Peking duck and the vegetable, 3 dishes, food took too long and we have to ask (restaurant only has about 3 tables). Look what we have got, the vegetable never came, when we ask, they said oh he forgot to order. <br/>What a joke, been there a few times, never go back now, rather buy a whole duck from china bar. Look at that peking duck, if you know what is pecking duck, you will know, this is just roasted duck, not Peking duck at all
Veronica Lin
Love the Peking duck here. Best in Melbourne. Kung pao chicken taste very nice as well, so we're the noodles. Gotta come here every once a while.

Expensive with bland taste... Perhaps good for non-chinese customers...but really disappoints chinese food lovers... wouldn't recommend to friends

Beautiful food. Peking duck is divine and the wagu beef dish is to die for. We have been here twice now and on both occasions have really enjoyed the food. Manager runs this restaurant very well. Looks after his customers. Will definitely go a third time.

I went to this restaurant last week with my friends without booking. It was not busy and staff were very attentive. Manager (i think he is the manager because only him wearing jacket) We were going to order quite lot of dishes but he recommended some dishes for us to enjoy our dinner rather than too many and very yummy too. He also explained to us how to wrap the peking duck and the story of it.<br/>We really enjoyed our night. Thank you very much.<br/><br/><br/>Mandy Le

The food was average and the service was horrible. <br/><br/>The restaurant manager, Mr Sam Lee, took our order but forgot to write down two dishes. He also wrote another one down wrong. As a result, we ended up waiting a long time for all of our dishes to arrive. We had to ask the waiter to check our order many times. One dish came after everyone finished eating. Another dish was not what we ordered. The dessert we ordered never came. We had to cancel it because our guests were getting impatient. <br/><br/>This was embarrassing for us as hosts because we were entertaining important guests from overseas. It was not a communication problem because our guest, who ordered, spoke fluent Mandarin and Cantonese. <br/><br/>I complained to the restaurant manager, Mr Sam Lee about the above. Regarding the two dishes that he forgot to write down, he made the excuse that they usually came out late and insisted that there was no mistake. After I questioned him further, he became aggressive and told me to "GET OUT" of the restaurant. He told me that he did not want me as a customer. He screamed at me "GET OUT OF MY WAY!" even though I was on the other side of the bar while talking to him. I felt physically threatened. <br/><br/>When I told him I thought the soup was too bland, he told me he did not care what I thought about his food. <br/><br/>This is unprofessional conduct and I am very disappointed in this restaurant. The Quan Ju De franchise, which has a proud reputation in China, should be ashamed of the quality of service at this branch in Melbourne. <br/><br/>Please avoid Quan Ju De Restaurant at all costs. <br/><br/>For better service and better duck in general, try "Simon's Peking Duck" in Box Hill South, "Old Kingdom" on Smith St, Flower Drum or Lucky Chan.

Came here for dinner and ordered 2 servings of their famous duck and pancakes, along with the parrot fish, Sichuan prawns and sea cucumber soup. The duck was thinly sliced and eaten wrapped in the thin pancakes and dipped in plum sauce. The meat was moist, not dry. Crispy duck skin was served separately. I don't think we got the whole duck we paid for. Each duck was served thinly sliced (as seen in photo) and I'm not convinced they served us all the meat. The service was ok, we got lucky with our waiter as other reviews mention really poor service. Our waiter actually brought the fish straight out of the fish tank in a net basket to prove that it was fresh, so points for that. Table had two pots of tea and staff refilled it without us having to ask. However I could tell that staff were trying to rush us as when we sat down at the table they immediately asked how many ducks we would be eating. We hadn't looked at the menu yet. Price is also something that shocked me. I know duck is a 'speciality' kind of meat but Quanjude marks it up 50 percent than other Chinese restaurants out there. Fish and soup was just average as well. This restaurant is supposed to be world famous but in my opinion the Australian branch is just 'meh'.
Moelover
Paid 69 per person for the banquet- the portion was small. When I saw the set menu includes quanjude Peking duck I was expecting a whole duck...silly me it was only 2 tiny wraps per person. Definitely not value for money. Every dish is small not what I was expecting from a Chinese restaurant

Never come back again! <br/>Don't get why the watermelon juice is $32!?!?! What the fk?!?!Only about 4 small glasses!!!!!!!! Never! Ever! Come! Here!!!

32 dollar watermelon juice. There are also many things you can't even order, the waiter just tell you the chef is not here? Excuse me? If there's no chef why bother open the restaurant!<br/>

Have not been here for about 12 months but previous experiences were good and the food was great. <br/>This experience however was not so good. After waiting almost half an hour for entrees we were left waiting another half an hour for mains in fairly empty Restuarant. We ordered half Peking duck, half crispy skin chicken and a plate of vegetables. The usual procedure is to get the duck first followed by the other mains. On this occasion the waitress brought out our other mains first and told us the duck wasn't ready yet. After dishing up our first serving the plates were then moved out of the way while the duck was brought out which meant they were cold by the time we got to them. The crispy chicken tasted like it came from ALDI. It was very salty and it was like the chicken had been sitting in brine. Not expected from a high end Restuarant. The service was amateurish and slow. Food not belonging to us kept coming. We were asked by 3 waiters in 3 minutes if we wanted drinks after ordering them but when we wanted attention at the end of the night were mostly ignored. The waiter behind the till waved back when I got his attention but did still not come over. I won't be returning.

Attitude towards customers is too bad. Especially the waitresses. We ask a lot of time of water. But half an hour pass till we get our water.
Dimche Talevski
ordered the chicken fillets yesterday for lunch. They didn't look right and undercooked but I thought maybe they were just steamed and a good restaurant wouldn't serve you undercooked chicken. 5 minutes after I left it hit me immediately and have had horrible food poisoning since. What a disgrace. I'll be going back to make a complaint its an embarrassment and stay away
Jonathan Kok
A very poor showing for what was touted as  a top shelf restaurant. My dining partner and I were treated to the "white person" experience: averted eyes from staff, infrequent table service and long delays. Inaccurate drink delivery too. And when two people order a full duck, and you have brought the same to other tables in eyeshot, maybe don't bring them a 3/4 with cold pancakes.

Came here New Years day. We were 8 people (2 kids) so we ordered two peking ducks (came with duck soup and we asked for the bones from the second one), fried small fish and char siu. The duck was disappointing, especially at $78 for one. We expected something special for that price. Ducks were not carved at our table for a start, and when plates arrived the meat seemed a little dry and lacked a juiciness usually synonymous with Peking duck - it was as if it had been pre cooked, reheated and not straight out of the oven. Skin was reasonably crispy but again a bit dry and unsatisfying. Char siu was luke warm had honey drizzled all over it, I've never had char siu like that. Again was a little dry, it seemed this had also been pre cooked and reheated. The battered fried fish was quite good, but at these prices you want more than quite good. Being NY's day there was a 10% surcharge as well, so meal came to over $308. Not good value for money and below average for the quality of the ducks they were serving. Service was friendly and attentive, but prices they were charging for the standard of food was well below par, bringing this rating down a lot. A few days later I had a wonderful succulent, roast duck from Dahu Peking Duck in chinatown for $52. We should have gone there instead.

Horrible service! The staffs' attitude and service is appalling. Will not recommend anyone to come here.<br/><br/>Update: We waited for more than two hours and the peking duck did not even arrive and the staffs did not even notice it. The reason they gave was: the chef forgot. <br/><br/>Horrible.

Definitely not on par with the Quanjude experience you can get in its original restaurants in Beijing, China. This offshoot  of the famous brand may have the decor and "atmosphere" that is seemingly on par with its more famous joints in Beijing, but the food leaves much to be desired. Neither the Peking duck (which it is supposed to be famous for) nor the crepes are as fantastic as other Peking duck joints in Melbourne (my favourite remains Simon's). Ironically, the tastiest dish I have had at this joint would be the wagyu beef.

We went to Quanjude for my birthday diner yesterday.<br/>The food and service were great. And I often come to Quanjude for diner as I really like their Peking Duck.<br/>However , there is an issue that a bit disappointed and stop me going there again.<br/>I dont mind the extra surcharge for paying card,<br/>But I was charged 10% for the tip which I wasn't informed by the staff. When I have put in the pin for the payment. It was the amount on the bill and When I checked my account and bill again at home. It was different amount. 10% is not much and I dont mind tipping the the good services but I would appreciate if I got told or informed at that time.<br/>And once again I wouldn't come to Quanjude again as I felt the place was being fishy about that issue.

Food was just average but the price was around 50% higher than other Chinese restaurant, the Peking duck was 70 dollars for a whole but the proportion was just not enough, didn't justify the high price at all. Customer service had no highlights as well. Quite disappointed and would not recommend to other guests, the food and service there were not as good as in mainland China.

Very nice wood-fired $79 Peking duck (a full duck between 4), though we had to wait about an hour for it to arrive (and a number of other tables were waiting as well). The tasty duck soup comes out first, followed by the duck for which you roll your own pancakes (with condiments+hoisin sauce) and some duck skin as well.<br/><br/>   My tip would be to order a full or half duck as part of your booking to reduce the wait. We also had the cantonese beef, some succulent sweet pork and the assorted mushrooms + buk choy dish. Service was excellent with many staff available, though they were very busy as the restaurant filled up (with many asians which is usually a very good sign). We also had plenty of good tea, with a couple of different varieties of Oolong as I recall.<br/><br/>   The management & decor has changed from when I wrote the first review of this place on Urbanspoon about 5-6 years ago. It has improved for the better and I'm definitely coming back! (addicted to duck :P)

I've always been curious abt this restaurant since I pass by it rather often and that it bears the same name as the well known Peking duck restaurant in Beijing. Made a last minute reservation on a Tuesday evening and was pleasantly surprised that they were able to accommodate it.<br/><br/>Here are the 'highlights' of my meal:<br/><br/>Ordered chrysanthemum tea but was served jasmine tea. Male manager didn't seem pleased when I asked politely if it was chrysanthemum tea that was served but changed it anyway. <br/><br/>Had to request repeatedly for water and cutlery for young children. <br/><br/>I ordered a set of 3 steamed scallops (which were plated individually) which was served together with the Peking duck I ordered. As the other mains came very quickly, both my husband and I only had the opportunity to eat two of the scallops as we had to fed our very young children. The same male manager came quickly and cleared all three plates bearing the scallops (2 were eaten and 1 was not). He didn't even bother to ask if We were done working on our food.<br/><br/>Tea refills were non existent despite us asking and the restaurant wasn't even working on 50% occupancy.<br/><br/>The restaurant was extremely noisy due to a group of extremely boisterous patrons who made use of the outdoor area to smoke too. Unfortunately, it didn't take long for the restaurant to be filled with cigarette smoke as the smoke wafted into the restaurant each time those patrons open the door to head in / out.<br/><br/>I had this middle aged waitress who recycled my son's unused fork (from the mains) for my dessert and each time she give me cutleries, she goes 'yours' while slamming the items on the table. This is uncalled for since I have been extremely polite in my dealings with the wait staff at the restaurant.<br/><br/>In all, the wait staff at the restaurant didn't seem like they were happy to work at the restaurant and wore glum faces. For the prices you are paying for and the quality of food, u r better off at Wing Loong along Elizabeth street. The Peking duck served was nothing amazing and fell short of the standards at their Beijing shop.<br/><br/>At the end, the restaurant charged us for a tip. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware of this until we left the restaurant. <br/><br/>I'm definitely not going back.<br/><br/>Do note that there is also a 2% charge if you pay by card.

I went Quanjude yesterday with my family for a Mid Autumn day gathering. The place was fully booked, filled with many young people/students, surprisingly quiet groups. <br/>The restaurant been around for almost a decade, first came here when it just opened, it was quite a big deal back in the days, coz it was the first ever overseas franchise of Quanjude brand from Beijing(the restaurant was established in 1864 in Beijing!!) <br/>Anyway, get to the topic on food!! We ordered the duck(most signature dish on the menu), the my all time favour, black pepper Kobe beef stir fried!! Super yummy!!! Husband suggested to try the pan fried barramundi, juicy! Loved it! Then the goose liver paste prawns (it doesn't look good on photo but it taste beautiful!!) also a vegi dish covered with crab meat sauce👍 <br/>Strongly recommending the duck, then the Kobe beef black pepper!!!! Bon appetit!! Xx

Waiting for 50mins for simple lunch with out any explanation. What a shame!!!! No one was actually taking charge at all...................

Yummy peking duck. The duck itself is carved thinly and served nicely on a plate along side the crepes, cucumber, spring onions and hoisin. The difference here is the sessame in the hoisin sauce. It adds a lovely aroma to the dish, but I must confess my preference for the more traditional sauce that I have tried else where. Not a huge issue really just a difference.<br/><br/>Really pretty place only been when quiet which suits me fine. Lots on the menu to enjoy and my favourite is always shitake mushrooms with spinach. Yes a simple dish but I love it and here it's something I could happily devour without a second thought.

A little confession: it's been a while since I was here - writing from memories from over a year ago.<br/><br/>Having said that, it's hard to forget that everything I had here was amazing. Expensive but well worth it. The Peking duck I loved, but did find it slightly odd it contained sesame oil mixed in to the hoisin (from what I could taste). It still worked but it was unexpected and probably unnecessary. The mushroom dish was very memorable with intense flavour - would like to order that again :)<br/><br/>Definitely worth coming back which I hope to do soon!

Second time coming here for dinner and it did not disappoint on both occasions. As the restaurant specialises in Peking duck and so ordered this. The duck itself was thinly sliced, moist and had crispy skin, all of which you look for in eating duck. The pancakes were also great; thin and moist as well. Other dishes were also quite nice and flavourful.

Peiking duck dish was delicious, quite fresh and lean. All other dishes have finely selected ingredients. However, the service was quite appalling, where not a single smile was given in all the times that I have dined there. Don't expect any customer service. If anything, the service is not worth the quality of food.

So upon thinking about whether I should review this restaurant, I researched the reviews for some of the previous diners at this establishment.  Upon reading the last 4-5 themes / reviews, I thought it would be worthwhile to set the context before I comment.<br/><br/>Too many people make commentary on their context of where they usually go for lunch.  This place is targeting something different which will set the scene.<br/><br/>I am used to China Town in may countries in Asia / Melbourne but thought this would be a good starting point if it is your type of place.<br/><br/>Context:<br/><br/>1. Not low value / cheap so don't come to this place if that is what your looking for this in a restaurant;<br/>2. Food quality has been exceptionally good - but engage the manager and have a conversation instead of relying on a waiter(s);<br/>3. The food is absolutely fantastic - but I am a contrarian however I was incredibly impressed;<br/>4. The place is downstairs, and is via a staircase.  It is also quiet and clearly well populated by a people who appreciate the ambience / quality  / and ability to have a business conversation;<br/>5. The food is really good on the basis I grilled the manager to get the best - menu as follows:<br/><br/>a) Chilli prawns  - brilliant and not worth missing out on;<br/>b) Calamari - generally not a fan but his was not tasteless and exhibited lots of salty flavours - magnificent and would recommend;<br/>c) peking duck - very good but did not have enough sauce.  DO NOT ask for Hoi Sin sauce in these places but it is commonly known as seafood sauce;<br/>d) Spring Roll - nice but not as good as golden orchids<br/>e) prawn toast - great<br/>f) Pork ribs - ok but not worth a second round;<br/><br/>Overall, it is a great restaurant that is quirky in its approach.  It is what it is and if you are looking for a flower drum without the fanfare but still has lower expectations. however this will server your purpose.<br/><br/>Engage the manager and see what they recommend!!<br/><br/>I rated it a 4 on the basis that I ask lots of questions, ensure it is fresh, and love food which is well cooked.<br/><br/>Its ok for me and I would go back!!

the worst customer service people at the front counter. so this is what happened. the day b4, we called in at 6:30pm and booked for a table INSIDE the restaraunt and also booked for 4 ducks that should be ready to be served ASAP, however probably an hour later someone called and booked all 4 tables inside and we got kicked out to the outside table without any notice. the day we went, we didnt know about this so we got really pissed off. and we asked who booked it for us, the lady said it wasnt her. however after we were fighting over some bs, the lady confronted and admitted that she booked it for us (completely lied to us) and then gave all the ducks to the other 4 tables. the worst experience at any restaraunt ive ever been to. and the manager was literally like an ally, helping and pushing her to talk shit.

For $78 per duck you get the following:<br/>Duck<br/>Pancakes<br/>Cucumber and scallions <br/>Duck soup<br/>I found this place a little more pricey than other Peking duck restaurants and you don't get as many courses out of the duck. <br/>Sitting inside Quanjude you could be sitting inside a restaurant in Beijing. <br/>Two out of the three ducks were cooked well. The last duck we received wasn't as crispy which was disappointing as that's the best part of the meal. <br/>Quanjude is something to be experienced but due to the $$$ and inconsistency I feel that there are better options out there.

Lovely place for dinner. Was a little quiet, but thankfully not silent. Their Peking duck pancakes are some of the best I've ever tasted- warm and thin pancakes, thinly sliced and CRISPY skin! The rest of their dishes were well done- these included crab and stir fried vegetables with truffle. The only thing I found really annoying was that they deep fried the fish bones (fish was used in a different stir fry) and made the difficult incredibly difficult to eat without poking yourself in the cheek with a fish bone.

Have been to this place for dinner 3 times now in the the past 2 months and the 1st 2 times we enjoyed ourselves very much. Good food and good service. However last night was a disappointment due to bad service by the male head waiter / manager. I don't get how he earns his position, he has no product knowledge whatsoever! We asked whats in the combination dish of entrée, he said 4 things, we then ask what were the ingredients? He replied whatever the chef put on the dish? Hey hello, weren't you supppse to go find out from the chef for your customer? Then we asked for how's the special deef dish made? He replied we didn't have it tonight. I had to asked again, "But how would it be made?." He just said with some sweet sauce. He had no freaking idea at all!!! Then he said "I will come back later" and just walked away. Rude rude rude!!! I must say their other waiters and waitresses were very service oriented! I really hope the boss will see this and have him retrained. No matter how good your dishes taste, bad service can ruined everything! And for this reason I am given it a very low rating. We took our uncle to try it out and see if its good enough to host his bithday party there in March for 20pax, the answer is obvious! We are taking our business somewhere else. With the price tag there are many many choices in the CBD!

This is a great place for family dinner. Service was lovely and efficient. Food quality was good and the Peking duck is a must try. Prices were reasonable as well. The only one problem is, there is a long stair you will have to walk down to the restaurant, that may not be too easy for the elderly.

Great food. Peking duck a highlight. Cooked to perfection, with no nasty fat. Banquet great quality too. Service is solid. The experience is all about food quality. Went back again today. Just confined for me again how good the Peking Duck is !!!

Ordered the Satay Sticks and Spring Rolls for Entree. Speedy service and we all enjoyed the taste. For mains we shared the Pork Fillet, Chilli Beef Fillets and Honey Chicken between 4 adults. Ample food. Again the taste was most pleasing.  Not a cheap eat though. Entrees $8 per serve (2 pieces), Pork $25, Beef $38, Honey Chicken $28 and each small bowl of steamed rice $3.

I really dont like cantonese food. Besides the peking duck, everything just normal. Do not worth to try. Service is fine. Around $60-70 per person.

Not the best peking duck but the beef dish was really good also the duck soup and prawn. The decor is classic but need to maintain cuz it look really old <br/>Services: 4/5<br/>Taste: 3.5/5<br/>Atmosphere: 2/5 ( some tables are very loud)<br/>Presentation: 3/5<br/>Value for money: 3/5

Sad Peking Duck. Massive massive fan of delicious duck and nothing tastes better than pancake duck wrapped deliciousness. Having made a round of the peking duck houses in Melbourne and with close family friends who actually brought out Peking Ducks commercially into restaurants to Melbourne in the 70's, we've made our way round a duck or two. So we had some expectations for Quanjude restaurant who has kudos in China for this cuisine.<br/>The duck here presents very well - perfectly sliced with little duck skin...however, the duck skin is actually what seals the yummy deal in a pancake, and with this, the pancake wrap was dry and a bit tasteless. The cucumber and spring onions were also small and wrinkly dry. The second most important ingredient, the pancake was also disappointingly slightly thick and doughy. For me to make a trip into the CBD, this was a sad experience.<br/>The other dishes we tried must be noted were yummilicious - shout out to the fish dishes. The wait staff were attentive but had sour, 'I hate my job' faces.

Terrible service. We've been dining at Quanjude for many years. Absolutely love the Peking duck. Actually all the dishes we've eaten have been great. This restaurant is definitely not cheap, on average $80-$90 pp usually an entrée, whole duck/4, shared main, rice or noodle dish and we're not big drinkers. Service was never amazing.<br/>BUT now the service is appalling. Waiters are un attentive, forgetful, little or no English and rude. <br/>Definitely NO tips.

If you ask me to decide on a favourite poultry, it will have to be duck. To be honest, I rarely consume duck back in Malaysia, probably only on special days where us kids have been good enough to deserve a bite haha. Having said that, I had a very memorable duck experience in Beijing 13 years ago and until today, I am hunting down for a place that serves something similar. Which brings us to today's post, a little experimentation with peking duck at Quanjude. From memory, this was a guarded recipe from the imperial palace's kitchen and it was a dish that is famous in Beijing. Traditionally, the duck's skin has to be shattering crispy. This is the most important criteria. When a piece of the duck's skin is wrapped with a few slices of spring onions and cucumber, topped with a teaspoon of hoisin sauce, perfection is achieved. Now back to this place, the entire restaurant is decorated with miniature pieces of duck ornaments, just to remind you that they specialize in peking duck;) We ordered a whole duck to ourselves and had to order an extra plate of steamed wrapper skins. The cost of the duck is at least $20 more than other places but for the experience, we gave it a try. Sliced spring onions and cucumber pieces. I was a little shocked when the plate of duck skin appeared on our table. From my understanding, we ordered a whole duck and so, we should be getting a lot more skin? Was very confused because we were advised to eat it by itself or alternatively, dip it into sugar. A few minutes later, we were served with a plate of duck meat. The duck meat was succulent but I still couldn't understand why we had a tiny plate of duck skin because the heart of peking duck cuisine is the skin. Overall, it was a confusing meal and it made me doubt my knowledge in this area:/ On the other hand, their fried rice was very fragrant indeed. Simplicity at it's best!

Abysmal service. I had a family dinner with seven people last night. We ordered three entrees - soft shell crab, octopus and xiaolongbao. Our main was peking duck.<br/><br/>It took 1 hour for them to bring out our entrees! Their excuse was the xiaolongbao takes a long time to make but they could easily have brought out the other entrees first so this didn't make any sense.<br/><br/>The peking duck took another half hour to bring out. <br/><br/>I honestly feel there's no point even mentioning the food when the service is this bad. <br/><br/>AVOID THIS PLACE.

Going Downhill. I used to love this place and have dinner with family & friends for the special occasion since 2012. The more we come back I feel the quality has been dropping for example take long time for 3 dishes ( Peking Duck, Beef stir fried and seafood stir fried ) total 2 hours for that dinner. Even tables were less than 50% fill that night. Also I order Peking Duck which normally it come with soup at the end and they forgot the soup so I had to ask for it. I'm talking on the day restaurant not busy ( Plenty of tables left ). No wonder why Simon Peking Duck is still number one in term of quality and services. Hope Quanjude Peking Duck will improve and start doing something otherwise nobody will go back there. I'm still like Quanjude but seriously need to improve.

I should advise you that my death row meal would definitely be a Peking Duck with all the trimmings.  So be warned, the following description of the meal is quite an ode to the duck.

The original Quanjude restaurant is very well-known in Beijing, however its Melbourne counterpart is not as popular. It offers Chinese cuisine, at fairly high prices but the food is of good quality. Their specialty is Peking Duck, but they also have a range of other typical Chinese meals. Something to keep in mind - they have different dishes on their Chinese and English menus! Chicken San Choi Bao - $8 A very tasty filling and plenty of it, not overly salty like at some other restaurants and there was a generous serving of chicken. The duck meat from 'one duck'. A Peking Duck with one set of pancakes, green onions, cucumber, sauce and duck soup is $78, the same with half a Peking Duck instead is $40.  One of the attractions at this place is that the duck is carved in front of the table - a real testament to the chef's knife skills. The wrapping process... Snow pea leaves with fancy mushrooms - not the official name, around $28 Eye fillets with Honey Pepper sauc

The original Quanjude Peking Duck restaurant in China was established in 1864 and as they claim to be the “number one Peking Duck restaurant in the world” – you could definitely sense the excitement in our group as we opened the doors into the restaurant.

This is an experience worth trying for anyone with an appreciation for fine dining, Peking duck, Qing dynasty history. Or a combination of the trio as I do.   We came here on Mother's Day and the restaurant was busy although not completely packed. The food is quite good although the prices are on the higher end. The service is passable, but the décor was opulent and the crockery was majestic.   I found the Uighur lamb skewers addictively endearing. It was impressive that such a simple street snack could be so well made in such a different context.      The stir fries were also both delicate yet wholesome. They were generous with the ingredients and we reminisced as we tasted some comfortingly traditional groupings.   Finally the Peking duck was crisp skinned, succulently fatty and completed by a juicy layer of meat.

I don’t think any of us thought the banquet was particularly mind-blowing; I sure didn’t get any foodgasms. There were some elements that were good, but others just didn’t do it for me.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
For Christmas lunch, Mother Hen and Mr Strong took the Lawyer and I to Quanjude Peking Duck. QPD is known for its peking ducks. Apparently it's a big chain of restaurants in Asia. I think this is the first restaurant in Melbourne. It's been here for about seven or so years. Inside, it's decked out in a lot of gold and rosewood furniture - it's quite a big restaurant. When it first opened, the waitresses were dressed in cheung san (long dresses). Everything's a bit blingy in an old-school style. Inside, it's a bit of a museum of Chinese culture. Lots of displays of vases, traditional dress and photos of famous people dining at various QPD restaurants around the world. I've been here a few times, and each time it's kinda dead. There's not a lot of people eating there. We marvel at the fact that QPD is still open for business - how they can make a profit with so few patrons is a mystery. Naturally, one must order the peking duck, which takes about 20 minutes for the chef to prepare. The b

Service is a joke. Massive problems with their service. Waiters do not know their own menu and speak poor English. We ordered a dish that was served and explained it was not what we ordered. They took it away to only come back and explain that this is the only way the dish comes, and argued that we should order better in future. Not only this but they continually take away the plates when everyone is clearly still eating. As others have said, waiters rolled their eyes and can't be bothered giving their customers good service. Not coming back.
Munch On Melbourne
Undecided...but this place is quite pricy. To be straight up honest Old Kingdom and Simons Peking duck in terms of the actual duck compared to Quanjude do their peking duck much better, in my opinion. Truthfully I dont like duck much at all BUT Peking duck skin! That is heaven! The duck meat at Quanjude had a musky, gamey strong smell to it and the taste was even worse, the duck was also very thickly cut and chewy, although nobody else had this problem on my table I found it very off putting, I basically only ate the skin (which was devine) and pancake with sauce (bit too salty). The pancakes were magnificent, this they did better than Old Kingdom & Simons Peking Duck but other than their service which trumps above most chinese restaurants in Melbourne along with their dynasty style decor, classier ambience & clean facilities (toilets were super clean) is they only positives about this place. The duck is $75 pre ordered, we got 2 for 6ppl, which is quite expensive because other than the peking duck you only get a watery cloudy soup afterwards, as opposed to the other 2 places you get a duck, sliced at your table (quanjude comes already sliced on a duck shaped plate) and then you get a noodle dish with the remaining duck meat remnants from the carcass then a soup made from the carcass for as little as $50-60, so as far as value for money you dont get much at Quanjude. We also ordered 2 side dishes 1 noodle and one veggie, the noodles were average at best and very little in quantity at $22 for a tiny bowl each per person but i found the brocolli and fungus vegetarian dish quite delicious. This place isnt bad, I still dont know how to rate it, if I wanted peking duck I'd go to old kingdom or simons, I dont really care about friendly service when it comes to chinese restaurants its all about the food. Its a nice place if you want to be all fancy chinese styles but other than that I cant really see myself returning.

Now this is Peking Duck. Tucked away in a basement on Queen Street, walking in reminds you of a bygone era. Think heavy mahogany, lots of imperial red and yellow, traditional Emperor gowns.<br/><br/>Anyway, I came here for the Peking Duck. At $42 for half a duck (which all the usual trimmings), it's not overlay expensive. However, the duck was excellent. The meat was lean and not greasy like most duck. The pancakes were thin and soft. The Hoisin could do with a bit of work. The skin was awesome - crispy, just a hit of fat and flavour.<br/><br/>Whilst the duck was a standout, the rest of the menu was pretty average Chinese (Duck Rolls were deep fried with dried out filling, the salt & pepper calamari was takeaway quality).<br/><br/>Overall, one of the best Peking Duck places I've been to in OZ. Don't come here for anything else, though

Not impressed. We just ate there and the service was very average... Every time we requested something they rolled their eyes, forgot drink orders and everything seemed a bit of an effort.<br/>The food has dropped in standard considerable since last year and I will definitely not be in a hurry to ever go back.

Came in here due to recommendations and its famous specialty - duck. Looked on the photos they hang on the wall must be proud that they served many important people in history. Don't think the service and food quality is matching the price. Maybe it's worth the price of a roast duck in Melbourne Chinatown?

We came to melbourne expecting quality peking duck, therefore we came here by recommendation, as this was a food trip we decided to order what they are famous for, peking duck, at first the waitress rolled her eyes at us for only ordering the duck, which really showed their service quality. <br/>Secondly, once the duck was here, it looked like a skinny dry duck, the skin wasnt crispy, there was no aroma from the duck, instead the meat was dry and with a heavy ducky taste , we dont usually mind pay good money for good food, but this wasnt a duck that worth the money. Im sure there are better peking ducks in Melbourne, dont bother coming here if you have high expectations.

Totally not worth it. Don'.... Totally not worth it. <br/>Don't go or go again <br/>There must be a better restaurant somewhere in Melbourne.

Went there with high expectation but totally disappointed!! duck was dry oily and have a smell to it! Totally over priced! Would rather get a roast duck from china town with half the price... If you are thinking of going DON'T BOTHER!

Really good peking duck. Peking duck was awesome!!! And the waiters were really friendly. One of the managers even brought out a whole fish for us to inspect before we ordered to make sure we know how big it is. Dedication right there!

The Best of the Best. I have eaten at some of the finest Chinese restaurants around the Globe. From New York City's Chinatown to Perth, Western Australia, I have sampled the Peking Duck that these restaurants put forth as a specialty dish on their menu. Some have even been so bold as to claim the best in their region. For the most part, I have been reasonably satisfied with their offering. However, I have been searching for something special and extraordinary. Finally, my search has come to an end. I have found the most perfect and authentic Peking Duck in the world right here in Melbourne's own Quanjude Peking Duck Restaurant. Not only have they exceeded my expectations with their culinary prowess, but they have surpassed the service offering of the finest Chinese restaurants. Quanjude greets all of their customers with a warm and friendly smile that even makes the lone diner feel like part of their family. I have sampled a few of their dishes and have some favorites, such as their special fried rice and chicken with cashews. The ambiance lends itself to a romantic dinner for two, as well as catering for families with small children. Every nook and cranny of this exemplary restaurant screams class....from their plush burgundy carpet to their traditional Chinese architecture. I would nominate Quanjude as the best in its class, and recommend it to those with the most discerning of palates. It deserves 3 Michelin Stars. Their staff are attentive without being obtrusive, and gratiously go about their job of delivering exemplary service with the most genuine of smiles.
