The pizza here has soul. We bought four altogether, all of which were top notch. The chorizo though, almost had me in tears. 'Twas indeed a religious experience. Thank you.
Some of the best pizza in Melbourne by far. The only reason I gave it a 4 was because how slow it was when I was there because it is in high demand. That is a sign of a good restaurant though. I only ordered 1 pizza and it took them just over an hour to get it out to us. The pizza quality is amazing though.
How amazing does this pizza look?
I wouldn't turn down pizza any night of the week and if it looks like this, would anyone!
We got two gluten free and two regular pizzas and this gluten free potato pizza was my favourite! That's the mushroom pizza creeping into the corner of this pic š“

I tried a delicious mushroom pizza from Pizza Religon! Removed the cheese to make it vegan ;) I was so impressed with the generous servings of mushrooms on top. The flavours were on point. Next time I might ask for a thicker crust as I like my crust THICK AF. Keen to go back and try more vegan options!
This has been a local pizza joint of ours for a few years, Iāve gone a few times and enjoyed the pizza. The vibe is great and they now have a joining wine bar where you can enjoy their pizza also!
I enjoyed the cappricoza and my friend got a vegan mushroom! They tasted delicious, and we both devoured ours while drinking lots of wine!
Delicious thin style pizza with generous toppings. It is good to go in a group so you can share a few pizzas. We went in a group of 4 and had 3 pizzas with some appetisers and it was more than enough food. Service is very friendly too.
Visited here the other night and loved it! Had the meatball, pepperoni, capricciosa and pork pizzas! The meatball and pepperoni ones were AMAZING! Complimentary sparkling water was a nice touch! Hokey pokey ice cream and banana walnut pizzette were a lovely way to finish. Wouldāve loved a coffee with dessert but they donāt have a coffee machine :(
Will definitely be back š
Even though itās located on the quiet side of Hawthorn this establishment attracts a decent number of people to its delicious pizzas and friendly service.
We had the lamb ribs which were decent (I enjoyed the chilli jam), beef brisket pizza and chilli chicken pizza. Iām generally not a massive fan of chicken on pizza but this was delicious!
We had the flourless pudding for dessert and my god it was amazing!
Small but very good selection of wines and cocktails for only $10 š
I ate here on a Sunday night with my family a few weeks ago. We have a diverse set of tastes and preferences across the board and it is often difficult to find a dinner venue which will satisfy all of them. Well, pizza religion did just that! My husband, who is particularly fussy when it comes to italian food (he is 4th generation italian), said it was probably the best pizza in Melbourne. The sheer array of pizzas offered is incredible, my favourites are the prawn, mushroom and lamb. Service is friendly and prompt and the drinks menu is diverse enough. Cosy atmosphere too! Prices are a bit higher than your standard pizza venue, but that's because the toppings are all lovingly cooked right there in the kitchen (think pork belly, pulled beef and lamb), so it is more than just pizza. We love the thin crust that many people seem to have a problem with (i hate bready pizza) but I think this is makes it easier to eat the whole thing! Highly recommend :)
This is hands down the best pizza in Melbourne. The only place that challenges it might be Pizza Meine Liebe in Northcote (also epic). What sets Pizza Religion apart is the creative, well-considered toppings and the quality of its ingredients. Straying from the conventionary, the biggest problem youāll have when you come here is facing the difficult trade-off of what to choose. Pizza Religion, please open some venues on the North-East side!
The staff here are so friendly!! It really was a standout. We were also told that they are now serving $10 cocktails, and the amaretto sour was insanely good. Pizzas came out efficiently, and the spiced chicken pizza was delicious; Iāve also ordered the beef cheek and the pumpkin pizza as take away and both were tasty too. The crusts arenāt my favourite, but the gourmet toppings are worth it!
Amazing!! Canāt say enough about it, the service is great with nice people that are helpful. The food is great and tasty and has so many options. Can be pricey but is worth it in my eyes.
Pizza Religion is by far my favourite pizza restaurant to come to in Melbourne! I probably come here way too often, and each time I dine here, I am left feeling extremely full and satisfied.
This time we ordered 2 pizzas to takeaway- the spiced chicken and meatball pizza.
The spiced chicken pizza is filled with a decent amount of chicken thigh pieces- evenly spread among the pizza, topped with Pico Di Gallo, basil and my favourite part- a creamy JalapeƱo aioli, creating such a flavourful pizza! Also note that usually this pizza is topped with peppers as well, but I asked to not include them as I am not very good with spicy ingredients.
The meatball pizza- the star dish of the night, and without a doubt the pizza that I order every single time I come. Thereās just something so simple but exceptionally tasty about this pizza. The balsamic glaze goes so well with the meatballs, basil and tomato.
All pizzas come in a thin base with a crunchy crust. I usually prefer thick bases, however Pizza Religion has definitely converted me into liking their thin bases- probably because their topping to pizza base ratio is perfect!
Couldnāt ask for anything more from Pizza Religion - ticked all my boxes, and Iāll continually come here for those outstanding pizzas!
Excellent service. Excellent Pizza.
Few days ago I realised I was charged 3 times for 1 pizza that I bought 2 months ago.
1 phone call resolved it, I got the next to Pizzas free.
All the pizzas cost $22 and are very small and thin. I was still hungry after eating one by myself and I am a small eater. Ā It is located with a few shops on Taronga Rd so easy to miss. Over rated pizza place with interesting toppings but don't taste that good.
I love this pizza joint! The pizza is always on point and the dessert pizza is really good too! Definitely recommend as pizza is my religion too! Jokes.
Pizza is always on point. High quality, fresh, unique and tasty! Great service and chill environment. One time my partner and I ordered pizza for pick up, we arrived 20 minutes late, they offered to make us fresh new pizzas! How amazing is that! I wish they did half/half pizzas though, because i have a few favourites!
Super busy restaurant on Friday night, friendly staffs. Ordered 7 pizza sharing with my family, one of the best pizza in town. Very crispy and tasty.
One of the best pizza's I've ever had! Although you'll pay a bit more the price is justified with the amazing pizza's they serve offer (Unlike other places where I've paid $20+ for a pizza but did not feel the price was justified). Has a relaxed, cosy atmosphere making it worth eating in.
Accomodating AND tasty Gluten & Dairy free pizzas restaurants are rare, but Pizza Religion takes the win here. I tried the pulled lamb & spiced chicken pizzas (without cheese & dairy products) and loved them!
There's indoor space to suit private dining & large groups.
Who doesn't love a good pizza?Great selection to choose from and friendly staff who are willing to give their suggestions to help you make that (oh so very difficult) choice. Great interiors to give it a nice and relaxed feel; perfect place to head to if you want a casual catch up with some mates. Pizzas came out nice and hot; delicious and while they will satisfy your cravings, they will get you craving to return soon again.
pizza is delicious but the service gas dropped off a bit.
i would still recommend any of their pizzas just stick to takeaway. last time i ate in my friends and i waited for nearly an hour for our first pizza. from what we understood they got so many takeaway orders they kept delaying the pizza of those sitting in their restaurant (the tables around us had similar waits).
so after that ive stuck to ordering over the phone to avoid being a chump watching dozens of pizzas come out of the oven and only to be taken out the front door.
This is probably the best pizza that we have eaten outside of Italy - it was a real find. The other dishes they have are also good but the pizza is life changing!
On pointe pizza, sometimes a little on the colder side and definitely over priced. But it is a tasty attempt at proper Italian pizza. Go for the capricciosa
If you are looking for some special pizza with exotic and different toppings and tasty and fresh, this is the place. Highly recommended.
Nice and clean vibe and good customer service.
Lovely food, lovely staff and always clean and well kept. I love coming back and have always had a great meal. Best pizza in the area and value for money.
Who would've expected this little local gem tucked away in a suburban street among all the houses and neatly manicured lawns? Super thin crust pizzas with the tried and true (Margherita, Capricciosa, Pepperoni) or the adventurous (beef cheeks, pork belly, asparagus).
We enjoyed our Margherita, Mushroom and Meatballs pizzas. The crust really does make a diff - it's almost like a wrap compared to the doughy version.
Cool modern settings in a not too noisy ambiance (except when they keep breaking glasses). Service was lacklustre. When booking for 6pm we were told we had to be out by 7.30pm (a very short sitting?!) but they didn't hassle us since it wasn't fully booked that night.
When our family first discovered Pizza Religion, we absolutely loved it! The pizzas are delicious and oh so gourmet. Even the kids can come! The kids pizzas come in small or large and have simple flavours. Go adventuring further, and you will find Potato, Prosciutto and many others! The service was awesome woukd totally recommend.
Came here for an early dinner with friends. Delicious fresh flavoursome gourmet pizza's. Enjoyed both the gluten free margarita and lamb pizza. One of my favourite places for pizza eat in or takeaway.
Awesome pizzas. Costly? A tad, but totally worth it. Great set up too. A very pleasant atmosphere to the place. Perfect portion sized pizzas too, IMO. We got the salt & pepper squid entree too, and I'd highly recommend it to those who are inclined towards the dish.
$22 for a very thin-crusted pizza with minimal toppings. Sure, they tasted great but I'd rather spend $10 on a pizza that's actually going to fill me up. I doubt I'll ever be back.
Great pizza and friendly atmosphere, my favourite is the chorizo pizza and the buttermilk chicken! This place is a favourite local for sure!
You should easily stumble upon Pizza Religion by browsing #bestpizzainmelbourne...just like I did. They have a few locations around Melbourne and the one in Hawthorn is a modern casual dining joint hidden in a residential area so you will easily find parking in the neighborhood.
Staff is attentive and the place tends to be busy on weekends with families dining out.
We were seated quickly and provided with menus and water. The selection is moderate and most pizzas will ring a bell but they are rather on the quirky side with some additional ingredients you are unlikely to experience in more traditional pizzerias.
We ordered the Pumpkin and Prosciutto that were served within 15 minutes.
I really enjoyed the gorgonzola and roasted pear in the Prosciutto and the feta and almonds in the Pumpkin. All ingredients were very good quality with a lot of flavor.
The dough is however a bit different to what you would expect from a classic Italian pizza. The base is properly thin but the crust is rather small, crunchy, empty inside and not raised as I'd expect it to be although rather baked to a darker color. You will not have any crust bits to enjoy with some olive oil.
Overall great tasting pizza, less the crust, for roughly $22 a pop putting it in the moderate price category for the Melbourne pizza market.
Place was not where you would hope to find a pizza restaurant, which is what made this review more interesting. Hidden away and around homes is a Pizza restaurant that serves good, but not the best, for what it is. It is pricey for what you get, just wished there was an option to get half and half to try other types. Other wise good work still
Great pizza and friendly service. We shared the potato pizza and the lamb pizza, both were absolutely delicious. Will be coming back here soon.
Pizza Religion is not a fancy place at all, its just a casual restaurant but serves up some really amazing pizzas. While covering the basic pizza flavours, Pizza Religion also has some quite unique flavor combinations. Delicious flavours and definitely worth trying out. Chilli Prawn $22 with Prawn, Garden Peas, Ricotta, Salsa Verde and Chilli
This place has some great ratings, so I thought I'd try it out for myself. My friend and I booked Tuesday arvo for a Tuesday night seat and were allocated the bench seats as the rest of the restaurant was booked. I loved the view of the street, so I have no complaints sitting at the window. It got busy quite quickly, but it doesn't get too noisy considering the number of people in there.
My friend ordered the ham pizza and grabbed the pumpkin pizza. My pizza wasn't fantastic. It was over-powered by the pesto however had loads of pumpkin and toasted almonds on it. My friend's pizza was actually quite nice - loads of ham, pineapple and big chunks of fior di latte (buffalo mozzarella). I could have scoffed it, but unfortunately he was only willing to do a one-slice-swap after he got knocked out by the pesto on mine.
The actual restaurant was beautiful and the staff were attentive and professional. Parking is really easy too. If I just went based on my pizza choice, I probably wouldn't head back here. But based on the ratings, my friend's pizza and how lovely the actual venue is, I'd be up for going there again.
Good quality, thin, crispy crust wood fire pizza. Would highly recommend the mushroom, chilli prawn, and need cheek pizzas!
The staff were super friendly, would definitely come back!
I only have one fault and that's, they don't serve moscato but that's not a deal breaker. This great pizza restaurant is located in hawthorn on a secluded strip of shops. It's the only thing open late, I think there is a milk bar as well.
We went on a Saturday night at 8pm and the place was full! It had such a good atmosphere, the staff were great and the pizzas were so tasty. Thumbs up all round. I ordered the mushroom pizza and my friend got half pumpkin half meatballs with a side of chips to share.
I loved that they were generous with their toppings and weren't trying to be fancy with it. Just a good old fashioned great quality pizza. You can eat with your hands as well and not feel inappropriate!
DO: Prawn/Chorizo, Prosciutto,Beef Cheeks and Bacon/Potato. Actually any of them -you won't be disappointed.
DON'T: Do takeaway like I did. Still tastes delicious but try and eat in.
TIP: Bookings are recommended and sit in the main area. Also, you can phone ahead to pick up your pizza.
The pizzas were awesome. Bases were light, so you weren't bloated afterwards and decent prices. Service was a bit all over the place, but they took care of us which counts, showing they CARE about their customers. Big plus for me. We had 4 pizzas and all were really quality and used top notch ingredients, not cheap pizza hut crap. 2 servings of calamari because one wasn't enough. Really tasty, highly reccomend it. Also had the pizza dessert which had salted caramel icecream and maple syrup. It was totally a hit. 5/5 for the dessert. Will be coming back. Only small let down is, it's not the biggest of places and does get quite crowded and loud!
This place has a great feel to it. Staff are very friendly and accommodating regardless of how busy they are. Food is fresh and delicious. Check it out!
This is some of the best pizza I've had. The place is always crowded, awesome vibe and staff are fantastic. You can taste how fresh everything is. Got some great, creative combinations on the menu. It's not exactly cheap but definitely worth it. We had to wait a while for our food but they were...
We ordered 2 pickup pizzas here. When we arrived home we noticed that somehow one of the pizzas had been mixed up. We called Pizza Religion and without hesitation we were offered the original pizza plus a free dessert with an apology delivered to our home. We really appreciate the service. Oh and the pizzas were great! Better then elounge etc. We will be back.
Hands down pizza religion is the best pizza in Hawthorn.
Their gluten free pizza is amazing as well and you guys totally rock with your friendly service and great menu.
We have been eating there for a few years now and worked our way through the menu and every pizza is always a stand out.
We love their ham and pineapple and I just adore their prosciutto and pear!!! Yum!!!
Drinks are good as there's not too many to chose from.
They've just added on some entrees on to the menu and a couple of salads which is good if you want to share a pizza and add a salad.
We've booked out the courtyard out the back for a party and it was a huge hit with the 18 year olds!!
Great service , the best pizza in hawthorn and they don't have to pay bloggers to turn up!! The pizza speaks for its selfšššš!!
Great pizza. Really enjoyed. The service was prompt and the pizza was ready in 15 minutes, despite them being very busy. I would recommend to everyone.
Pizza is lovely and the base is nice and crunchy. We came in around 6pm on a weeknight and despite being the only table in the restaurant, we didn't get much service outside of our initial order. They have a lot of pizzas on their menu and all are interesting combinations. We ordered the beef cheek and potato pizzas. Both were nice but couldn't beat the Margherita that we ordered takeaway before.
This is a pretty fancy pizza restaurant, so definitely catered for those looking for gourmet toppings. The restaurant is modern and relatively casual (as is the service), and has a nice vibe to it.
The pizzas are all the thin crust variety (which some prefer), but I was almost too overwhelmed with the fancy options for toppings, when really I just wanted the standard (but delicious) types with a nice thick crust.
Definitely a pricier option if you're just looking for a casual pizza night, but perhaps worth a visit if you are looking for something slightly more exotic.
Had my birthday dinner here with a large group in October, pizza religion did not disappoint! We ordered a range of pizzas to share, my favorite was the beef cheeks and the mushroom! Customer service was outstanding, the staff were all so friendly and accommodating. They did not have a minimum spend for a large group, unlike the Malvern store. Will highly recommend for large groups of people!
Have been wanting to try these guys out for a while as I had heard only good things. I was not disappointed! Arrived without a booking a couple of days before christmas and was quickly seated at the bar. Friendly, fast and efficient service despite being quite busy. We ordered a hawaiian(ham) and half and half of potato and lamb. Both were amazingly spot on at a decent price! I will definitely return in a heartbeat!
I have found my absolute favourite pizza place in the word! Even though it is slightly pricey compared to a normal pizza joint... I'd say it's worth every dollar! Bold, unique, delicious pizza creation choices with a perfect pizza base (done to my favourite preference - not thick and chewy but sightly thinner and crunchy). Staff were friendly and accommodating. I absolutely adore this place!
Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. Had the gluten free prosciutto pizza, the sweet roast pear and prosciutto was awesome. Will defiantly be back for more.
Great work guys!
Awesome pizza! Love this place. One of my top 3 in Melbourne. Im looking forward to more venues opening up. Pepperoni pizza gets better every single time.
I have recently stumbled on what Kiddo called "the best pizza crust I have ever put in my mouth". It's Pizza Religion. Simply put - they do good pizza. The crust is the perfect thinness to convey the perfect amount of perfectly amalgamated pizza ingredients into one's gob. Ā My absolute favourite is the mushroom, caramelised onion and tallegio pizza.
After a mini drama of them loosing our booking and not having a place for us, they found us a spot and we orders some wine! FYI they only have 3 whites to choose from. We had the Arancini of the Day, saffron and manchego cheese! Very nice and salty! Then we had the Proscuitto, Gorgonzola, Roasted Pear, Basil, Truffle Oil Pizza and the Pork and Veal Meatball, Tomato, Basil, Pecorino, Balsamic Glaze! Both were amazing! Really nice thin bases and beautiful fresh toppings. Definitely check it out if in the area.
pumpkin, zucchini, pepperoni and meatball all good :)
plenty of toppings but wish the sizes were a bit bigger for $20
choc pudding was the highlight of the night
Please try these guys. The atmosphere in the place is pumping. Their staff are happy and helpful and always greet you with a smile no matter how busy they are. Oh and then there is the pizza. Divine. They have some trendy combinations as well as a few traditional ones and they taste great. Will be coming back :)
Melbourne's Munchies
+4.5
Its always hard trying to find the pizza base, you dont wana go too thick or too thin or else it wont be able to hold the weight of the ingredients. Pizza religon do a very good job with a thin crunchy base which almost runs right through to the crust without a soggy base full of oil ! Very tasty with fresh ingredients worth trying aswell as the dessert one as well
It used to be so much better... The chefs who started it are nowhere to be seen.. Instead there's kids behind the decks trying to replicate the past. What a shame.
We are regulars here and whenever we go we order the same ā just because they are so damn good
Beef cheek
The smoked salmon
Pulled lamb
Pumpkin and fetta
All I have to say is do yourself a favour and try this place out!! Fantastic service, great fitout, buzzing atmosphere and most importantly unrivaled pizza !! :)
I absolutely love this place, the guys that run it keep an awesome buzz going. Always packed to the brim, shows how great the pizza is. Thankfully the reno into the next doors shop has doubled the seating available. Love how great the kitchen is towards intolerances. Fav pizza in Melb by far.
A local favourite! Fantastic pizzas, with quite creative combinations of toppings and the ability the order half-and-half. The mushroom and margarita pizzas are particularly good. Take-away is good, but eating in is the real treat, with a pleasant atmosphere and a range of delicious, well-priced starters and sides. Cheap corkage too!
Best gourmet pizza, my faves are the mushroom and the ham and pineapple, sounds typical - exceeds expectations!!! with amazing service from friendly and energetic staff! Try the cabbage salad, an absolute winner!!!
Amazing pizza! Almost like I was back in Rome! Great service great prices, amazing atmosphere! I highly recommend you try this pizza place, you won't be disappointed!
My partner and I came for dinner on a Fri night. We ordered 4 pizzas between the two of us. The friendly waitress cleverly suggested to bring two pizzas at a time. Prosciutto pizza and the Chorizo pizza came first and they...were...DELICIOUS!!! Perfectly timed, Morcilla pizza and Potato pizza came next. We found these pizzas unique in taste, however still enjoyable! Yes, we finished all 4 pizzas! A very loud and vibrant atmosphere...highly recommended and looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu!!!
Best...Pizza...Ever!
Great place, quick service, friendly staff and delicious pizza! It is a busy place with a great vibe and trendy atmosphere. Off street parking is easy too :)
Simple but delicious pizzas presented in a very hipster fashion. Just enough toppings to not make you yearn for more.
The Sticky Date Pudding pizza desert was absolutely smashing and a great way to top off the night.Ā
Lucky we made a booking, despite which we were still seated on the bar stools at the front window.
I would've given it 5 stars had it not been for the seating and the excess oil on the lamb pizza. Even then, probably the best pizza place I've dined at in Melbourne!
The only thing I can say is why did I not find out about this place sooner.Ā
Love the pizzas here the only issue is the pace gets too busy. Favourites by far are their Lamb Pizza and the Prawn and Chorizo OMG.Ā
Service is always prompt and friendly.
A slightly hidden away gem... Worth a trip. The flavours on the pizza are really really cool! Try the prosciutto pizza, the potato or the blood pudding pizza. Cool tip: 1/2-1/2 for an extra couple of dollars. The only problem: bookings are often back to back so you get virtually kicked out after 90 mins... not cool. And there is wine available but no wine list: why??
