Review Bonbons Bakery Flinders - Melbourne

Carmelo
I'm shocked about all these positive reviews. Sausage rolls tasted like months old, too dry and terrible taste. French cinnamon roll the same. Dry and surely a day or more old. Save your money and go somewhere else!!!

Typical Asian Style bakery. Nice mini croissants. Some sausage buns had a lot of pepper. Decent Large flat white. Friendly service. Great location.

I should say 0 star beacuse they have mentioned closing time 7pm and today 6 sep 2017 i went to buy a cake at 6:20pm they said we are closed...i searched on google all cake shops close at 6pm...i was at work whole day so couldn't buy cake day time so rude staff they should not refuse to customer...very very rude...felt so bad...

Great fresh food and variety of options. Also great prices! Would definitely eat here again.

A great cafe in the heart of Melboirne City that offers great coffee and an amazing array of cakes and food snacks. Friendly staff and a nice place to go and relax for a short time

A great variety of common snack foods and some larger meals for a quick lunch/dinner... tasted good and was a reasonable price... worth a look!

👍 Would recommend. Small quiet place. Perfect for a little lunch or snack. Not too expensive either, with a great selection.

Good location, decent collection of cakes and pastries. Really have no clue how to make a coffee though 😌

BonBons Bakery is a conveniently located self-service bakery and cafe on Flinders Street.
With a wide selection of baked goods, sweet and savoury, BonBons is the ideal place to grab a quick bite or sit and enjoy a coffee and cake.

I tried a cream bun with strawberries and a Nutella donut. The strawberries were very fresh and contrasted well with the sweetness of the cream.
The Nutella donut was decent with a reasonable Nutella-to-dough ratio.
Affordable and good quality. The mochas and other chocolate drinks are a chocolatey dream. Would recommend taking advantage of the end of day sales.

The coffee was great, and the designs were fantastic!

The balance between colours on every bread was amazing, with contrasting colours which definitely looks appealing! The service was very nice, and the staff were polite. Great place to try :)

Had the cinnamon donut and French donut and must say it was very tasty. Cinnamon donut was light and fluffy and not overly sweet. French donut was crispy, sweet and left a lasting impression of sugary goodness. Recommended for a really lovely pastry treat.

Although I've been here a multiple times, there isn't anything very special about Bon Bon. Their coffee and doughnuts are nice. The cold coffee also tasted good here, but I feel it lacked presentation. The staff here is super sweet.

Bacon ball -- 4 stars. perfect flavour, small portion for price. unfortunately sells out quickly -- should see more
taro bun -- don't bother. 1 star.
custard bun -- 3.5 stars -- more filling to bun ratio would be nice.
slice of chocolate sponge cake -- extremely sweet -- would not buy again.
sweet chilli sausage delight -- TOO SALTY. 1 star.
chicken and onion pizza -- tastes bad. the chicken is the gross processed mash.

prices should be lower for the portion size. good and clean environment of store.

BonBons is an Asian self-serve bakery that’s similar to Breadtop. Some of the products are the same, such as the pineapple bun and twin sausage bun, but their cakes differ serving non-Asian style cakes which are dense and heavy. The key difference though is that BonBons is marketed towards the Australian and International customer base with an aim to provide good coffee and a cafe space to eat in.

Not a bad spot for some quick asian assorted buns and desserts. The green tea swiss rolls are delish! They're def my fav - so soft and smooth and tasty of-course. Can't go wrong with the sausage twin rolls also. Have had the cream filled and nutella donuts before - they're hit and miss. Occasionally quite dry occasion just enough fillings that makes it very tasty!

Service has always been quite pleasant and efficient. Can pay by card without limits!

Was excited to buy a donut named 'cream and nutella donut' thinking it would be filled with nutella and cream. It was filled with nothing but dry donut. Broke it in half to have the nutella bit and threw it out realising nothing was in there. So so disappointed. The donut should be called donut with cream and nutella smeared on top.

Bad muffins. Worst muffin ever...it was hard as rock

Avoid. Purchased two muffins at the Doncaster outlet early September. Later found one to be stale and rock-hard. Returned it to the store same day and chose a replacement. This, too, was stale, yet was replaced in the refrigerated cabinet. A second choice was okay. Both muffins (one chocolate, one raspberry) were dense and chewy and lacked flavour. My first and last purchase from Bonbons.
Food For The Soul
Paid $3.90 for a french doughnut, stale and like chewing rubber. Very disappointed and not good. use the wrong oil for this type of food and you can taste it in the product.

Cheap cake, terrible and not-so-cheap coffee. Actually thought this was the worst coffee I've had in years (barring instant).

Name and shame!!. It's time to name and shame this company for all the bad that they are!
Service is horrible, staff are rude to each other and managers and undermined and made to work from 8am-10pm on some cases, without breaks from higher bosses.
This company is dodgy, they won't pay you correctly, they won't pay your super and they definitly won't pay your taxes correctly.
I advise any parents out there who are wanting their children to have their first job through bonbons to reconsider!
EatToLive
Good coffee. Love to take away danishes and biscuits here. However, service could be improved. I personally don't mind the way they treat their customers. Hopefully the management will get this right soon.

Disgusting. The food is too processed, fake fake fake!! Coffee was poor, service was terrible. A friend got a birthday cake which looked great, but the flavours were so artificial.. I won't be going back.

Yummmm. Had the Cinnamon escargot + Pork floss bun = $5.
The Cinnamon escargot was flakey and crispy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. Perhaps I was hungry, but it was heaven.. didn't want it to end!
The Pork floss bun was dependably good. The butter/cream (?) between the pork floss/nori and bun made the difference.

Looks better than it tastes. I was drawn in by the good-looking pastries in the shop window of BonBons as I walked down Flinders with an empty, coffee-less stomach. Row after row of large, colourful things. And many had the word "custard" attached. Unfortunately, the almond custard bun ($2.50) I had was more looky than tasty. Not that it was BAD, just sort of puffy and white-floury, but not intensely flavoured. It appeared there would be a lake of custardy goodness in this football-shaped pastry that more than filled my hand, but it was more like a schmeer. The large flat white I had with it was superior to 90% of the cappucinos I had during four years in Canada, but now that I've been back in Australia for all of four days, I'm getting more discerning about them, too. It was a decent cuppa, but I've had better at places that specialise in coffee. I don't dislike this place, but there are a thousand other coffee and pastry shops I'd want to try before I made a return visit.

Breadtop with Service!. There's a new (Breadtop) bakery near Flinders, BonBons Bakery. It's beside the Degraves Subway exit (not the Waffle On one) where the old 2nd hand overpriced yellow bookshop was.

Their best sellers are pizzas (think of the types they sell at the supermarket) and burgers. At the moment they don't have a large range, but hopefully that'll change.

I had the 'Crispy Prawn Burger', cheese, tomato, lettuce, tomato sauce with a crumbled deep fried prawn, on a bun. I really liked it, though the bun they use with the fish finger at Breadtop is softer. I also had their coffee sponge (2.00) which was light & fluffy, perfect as always. The manager (I think) said they're made at the factory and delivered daily.

Service was surprisingly good! As I expected it to be like Breadtop, which is almost self-service. Minimal conversation and no smiles. Vincent was very friendly in recommending what to get. And the manager was very friendly too, he recommends the vanilla sponge out of the flavours available. I've always gotten the coffee one, but will try that next time.

We've been here a few times are its been lovely.

Pineapple Chocolate Bun - Light and fluffy. Love! Highly recommended. There's no pineapple in it - that refers to the design of the bun.

Nice bun. The custard bun here is amazing...the custard is tasty and the base is completely moist...

Rude staff . Walked in and no one noticed me . Try a coffee the milk was brunt and bitter . Not coming back .

I had a "Bonnchino" with a cinnamon twist. The a Bonnchino is similar to a mocha and was delicious and warming. The cinnamon twist was just like a donut, but shaped differently. They complemented each other perfectly. Definitely recommend a visit if you are in Melbourne and in a hurry. They have a wide range if sweet and savoury treats and the prices are very reasonable. The shop was clean and there was sufficient seating.

Given there were two birthdays in one, we also ordered a German cheesecake from BonBons Bakery. Not too sweet (and even quite light), the smooth cheesecake batter melted in the mouth.

Here I had their Russian sweet bun and their garlic bun. Altogether it was $4.80 and it filled me up.
