Found this place on The Fork and decided to give it a go because of the discount. A small cosy bar with a nice courtyard out back and small dining area out the front.
The menu reminded me a lot of Paris, a set menu with 2 options for entree, main and dessert. There were also a few tapas options and cheese, cold cuts and pate/terrine share boards.
We started with a feed me board which consisted of cheese, pate, terrine and cold meat. It was a good variety and just the right amount of everything.
Next was the set menu, the entree was the same terrine on the tasting board. Main I opted for the pan fried barramundi and it was cooked perfectly! Amazing flavours and generously portioned.
Finished off with the isle flottant which are small poached meringues in custard. Very light and delicate.
Overall a good dining experience with excellent quality food
Great for a casual chat, cheese platter and wines!
Staff were friendly and made good recommendations for wine choices.
Wouldn’t come here for a formal dinner as the dinner options were quite limited. More of a graze and sip kind of place.
Outdoor seating area was nice on a hot day but service was a little slower out of sight.
Dropped in with two male friends after a conference. Small restaurant. Prob seats 20. Apart from our table, the other tables seem to already know the host.
The menu was a one pager, but in each section, there was something I wanted to try. We ordered the beef tartar, charcuterie for entrée. Fish and Steaks for main. Cheese board and chocolate fondant for dessert. We polished up everything. All delicious.
A fantastic French restaurant in South Yarra. The head chef at this restaurant is superb and creates incredible signature dishes. We found all dishes to be presented super classy and very unique. This place doesn't have a large menu but shows you that you don't need a huge menu if you nail all your dishes. If you're looking for a romantic evening, give this place a go.
One of my favourite French fine dinning place in Melbourne...since I'm a fussy eater but I choose to have spent my 2017 birthday here, everything well made by French chief ...fine designed, well made and Devine flavour just boost your tongue every time...handsome and friendly boss TJ also my favourite food guild every time :))) different session they have designed different menus, also for special event, average around $80 per head include alcohol price is on the middle range, good for exclusive dating and group event...love here and always come back ❤️
New manager and new chef delivering an interesting change in style. Share plates and well-priced mains. We chose to share the French cheese & Charcuterie plate followed by the Vodka-&-Beetroot-cured Salmon and the Sea Bream Tartare with Mango & Coriander. All excellent accompanied by a local Pinot Gris.
Manager, Nicolas, and key help, Estelle, are knowledgeable and informative. We’re coming back with friends in a week.
Such beautiful cooking, tender slow cooked beef. I want more and more and more. Elegant and delicious. This will be my new favourite dish here.

Had an amazing meal at this French restaurant ! We were surprise how good each dishes were. We could tell that the ingredients were really fresh and high quality.
The staff was really nice and friendly. They recommended great menus.
Our favourite dishes are
- trout confit
- salt bush risoni
- crab croquette
The texture of the chocolate mousse could have been better but overall it was still a pretty dish.
Really enjoyed it and would totally go back again!
Really good French food, wine and a lovely waitress ... one of the best place in Melbourne I would recommend. Not to busy and a really jovial place to eat.
Came in for a quick wine. Sat in the gourgeous courtyard all afternoon. Great recommendations on tasty wines. Ended up ordering some cheeses to match. Glad we listened to the waitress. Her favourite cheese was to die for!
Had the cheese and meat platter for a casual Saturday late afternoon date. The variation of cheese was good, so are the cured meat. My partner and I enjoyed the platter very much, he love some of the cheese and meat more than others. I enjoyed the platter very much with a glass of Pinot Gris. Great service. Will come back for more 👍🏼
Really nice restaurant, good service, friendly people, make you feel like you are at home.
Good food as well they foie gras is really good !!!!
A good place to eat, sit in the window.
We had a pot of tea, two pastries which were excellent and probably beat the many other pastres served by French restos in the South Yarra area, and a bottle of GOOD sparkling water.
"Tu" means "you" in French. You can tell they are thinking of "you" the customer here, and "you" will like it also .
The photos of Serge Gainsbourg are a good touch -- that man was legendary. No lemon-in-zest here, however. But you may find a lemon on the side of your meal. I would be interested to go back and try the savoury menu, I think.

Some of the most delicious French food we have had in Melbourne. Situated on Toorak Road, Tu restaurant is a slice of France on our very own door step.
Greeted by friendly staff, you will be presented with a delicious menu where you will be spoilt for choice. But there are a few things you cannot leave without trying!
Stunning lunch to Tu today. Had the express lunch quiche Lorraine option and it was amazing. Accompanied with dessert and coffee both of which were equally good. You must give this place a try.

Discreetly opening up earlier this year, Tu has been a quiet achiever. Owner TJ has lived and worked in France for a long time, setting up food and hospitality businesses before coming back to Melbourne for good. His vision for Tu is to do French like the French do. French food is not all about expensive menus, heavy dishes and stuffy atmospheres like some of us might imagine, and he saw that Melbourne is missing the more typical, casual style of French dining that is more commonplace there.
Tu Restaurant & Bar opens in South Yarra – a cosy French restaurant set to the dulcet tunes of Jacqueline Francois’s, La Mer. What is French cuisine? The flakiness of freshly baked croissants, a golden yolk merging with the rawness of steak tartare and escargot? All those things are quintessentially French, but also a gastronomic stereotype. Anyone that comes from some sort of an ‘ethnic’ background, will be aware of such social cliches. Coming from a Chinese/ Vietnamese background, it’s puzzling when my Aussie friends exclaim, that ‘Lemon chicken’ is their favourite Chinese dish. To be frank, I’ve never met a Chinese person that eats Lemon Chicken… Tu Restaurant, brings to Melbourne what is lacking in our dining scene. Sure, there’s the fluorescent glow of France-Soir and french onion soup from Chez Olivier. All these ‘stereotypical’ French dishes remain delicious, but few French restaurants in Melbourne showcase France from a locals’ perspective. Tu Restaurant introduces diners, to the food that the French love and recognise.
Admittedly, this review is based on a special Bastille Day degustation menu and not on the normal dinner menu. The degustation, however, gave Tu chef and staff the opportunity to showcase their talents across a range of regional cuisines and styles. The menu included some great seafood, succulent quail and delicious desert. The matched wines were equally impressive. The highlights were the impressive and surprising opening dish of egg poached with a blue cheese cream perfectly matched with a Vouvray Sec. The hero and table favourite were the scallops, crispy apple and bacon chips on a fine artichoke puree matched with a Normandie cider. I also really enjoyed the palate cleansing sorbet with ginger and flavour 'pops' of finger lime.
Staff were wonderful - friendly, informative and french. I can't wait to return on a normal lunch or evening.
Disclaimer - I love French food having lived a short time in Paris and I know the owner so I can vouch for the authenticity and passion going into this bistro.
Quality of food: Outstanding. Certainly in the 'hatted' category served in much more expensive restaurants. Ambience: authentic French, intimate. Well looked after by attentive staff. Could not fault the superb meal. In a great city with so many options it is great to still find new restaurants that surprise on the upside! This is the first rating I have ever given full marks to. Well done Tu Restaurant!
We have just enjoyed the 7 course degustation menu to celebrate Bastille Day. What a triumph! Arnaud the French chef from Lyon personally delivered several courses to our table with a warm explanation of the creation he had made for us. 10/10 Tu Bar, thanks and we'll see you again soon!
Honestly the best quiche I've ever tasted! Very fresh and great texture. Also very friendly service and great coffee.
Cmon Zomato - lift your rating. :)
Stumbled across this wonderful find last week. Had a few cote du rhone wines, came back for dessert - suberb!! Came back this week to dine. . Had the best steak tartare I had ever tasted...so wonderfully presented. Cheese plate & more red. Coming back to try their Steak night every Monday, gathering a following do much be quick getting a booking.
The food and service and wine just exceptional. One of the better experiences in Melbourne. The tender beef with truffle oil was to die for. But before that the scallop dish was sublime
Amazing new modern French restaurant. The coffee during the day (ex-Picnic barista) is good and for dinner, we had the chef's menu (a bit of everything) with a lovely Bordeaux wine, as we are honeymooning there later in the year (might have had a couple of bottles!).
New French place that we stumbled upon, and what a gem!
Beautiful atmosphere, attentive staff and most importantly, excellent food. Everything was perfect, the selection of drinks, the main courses, down to the salad vinaigrette and dessert.
Will return for more.
Now this place is a very pleasant surprise. I first noticed it strolling back to my car from France Soir. Seemed new to me. The owner, a welcoming fellow (Trent) confirmed he had only opened a couple of weeks ago, after returning home from many years in France (also in the restaurant business). The restaurant looked good (stylishly relaxed) and the the food sound good, so I went back that night.
Tu is very French in every way. The food flavours were outstanding and the French wine exceeded my expectations. I was going to do my usual Shiraz, glad Trent talked me out of it. The plates are smallish which suits sharing and picky eaters like me. I had slow cooked lamb shoulder and it was the best I have eaten. I have been back twice now, the second time ox cheeks, the third time a slow cooked veal casserole, all sublime.
Tu is not trying to take on France Soir (who could!) but he is providing an authentically French point of difference, with a quieter, more intimate style of casually relaxed eating.

We stumbled across this intimate French restaurant and we couldn't have been more pleased! They have a great wine list (sourced from France of course!) and a simple but delicious menu - the steak and chicken breast were the best we have had in a long time.
Great customer service and background music made it an incredible night out with friends. We will be back regularly, thank you!

Tu is a first-rate restaurant with french home feels. Thier food is phenomenal, I had their perfect melt in your mouth eye fillet and exquisite chocolat foundant. Thier wines are beautiful and all from the regions of France. Thier service is very personal with great knowledge and recommendations, making us feel like the only 2 dining. Will certainly come back and must for a romantic evening or a celebration.
A little piece of France in Toorak Rd, Tu fulfills my wishes of many years - an intimate bar/restaurant where locals can go and feel at home. Coffee and croissant with the chef's jam, lunch dishes reminiscent of special times with family in Paris, aperitif at the bar chatting to staff, or innovative twists on traditional dinner dishes. The team is a delightful treat, and immediate acknowledge your presence, whether greeting you in French or English. After two visits only, I already feel at home and part of the family! Long live 'Tu'"!
What a delightful hole in the wall. The owner was especially friendly and helpful. I had the lamb rack and it was exquisite! The chocolate dessert was also simply divine! I would highly recommend coming here!
Totally recommend for random catchups with friends or a dinner and the cheeky drink with your partner. Great food the owner is fantastic. Always an experience made by the friendly staff and amazing food .
The owner is so personable and hand selected my meal. Waiters are attentive and so friendly. I have good recommendations for brekkie in the city and definitely will come back again. They change their menu every season too.
Amazing food and atmosphere. The staff are really knowledgeable about their menu as well, happy to make recommendations and tell you more about what you're ordering. It's pricey, but it is in Toorak
