Review Noodle House By Lao Luangprabang - Melbourne

Priscillia
I love the noodle dish here. It’s very simple. Perfect for cold night when you are craving something warm for your lunch or dinner. If you like Thai ice milk tea, they could do a good one here. Don’t expect so much from the services, you have to constantly try to get their attentions. The place is very close to Victoria Market. Just an apartment building across from Maccas .. level 1. My favorite dish is the one with pork/beef balls cooked in 14 hrs? Can't remember the name and it's only $14.50. Add the crispy pork belly into your soup, they are a good combo together

So glad I found this place. Melbourne has no short of delicious noodle soup restaurants however this is up there with the best of the best. I’ve never tried Laotian food prior to this and it is really really good. Their crispy pork soup is so rich, so flavourful and so fulfilling. We tried a few different soups between four of us and each soup had its own unique taste and flavour. I’ll be back for sure.

Today I had the opportunity to try out this talk of the town noodles place. Make sure you follow the signs and don't enter into the apartment entrance like me. 😅 You gotta turn right at the entrance of the restaurant and walk up the stairs and turn left. Since this was my first visit, I asked the friendly waitress what is the most popular dish here. She pointed out that most people ordered the pork belly one. So I said I will have the pork belly noodles then. The noodles look very pretty. I can see the crispy pork belly placed beautifully on the top and with the surprise 4 pork balls. The soup tastes very nice and it is a bit thick. The noodles are also rather different from the usual rice noodles. One other thing I notice was that the noodles remain hot for a long time, which is excellent for cold winter day. I love this noodle soup. The pork balls are yum too. The friendly waitress later told me that they made their own noodles and the reason the soup is a bit thick is from their homemade noodles. I can choose other types of noodles next time. I will definitely come back here again for other noodles.

This place is amazing! Food is quick and always very tasty. (With this review, this is my second time been here). Their signature dish is so good. That homemade noodle, you have to try it to see what I mean. With their other noodle, they are also excellent and very satisfying. Oh that dessert, Kalan Mark Pao... I really believe that everyone should try. The roti is deep fried, covered with some sort of sugar and served with coconut ice cream. They are not your normal one, this ice cream has actual coconut in it!

I really like this place but my biggest complaint with my last visit is the fruit flies that were hovering over the table and to the shock and horror the amount that were scattered across the wall next to our table. Prices are not as student friendly at around $15 per bowl of noodles yet are on the affordable end but would like to eat without having to do the Australian salute every few seconds. Been here a couple of times so can say that the noodles are nicely done. Khao Piak Moo Krob (Homemade rice noodle in pork broth with crispy pork) is nice and the broth is rich and the noodles are springy. Pho Ngua (Rice noodles in pho beef broth with meat cuts and beef meatballs) is also a good choice as the broth is wonderful. My favorite has to be Khao Poon Nam Seen (Vermicelli noodles with slow cooked beef broth infused with galangal, shrimp paste and bamboo shoots) the noodles soak up the broth and have a nice texture and the broth isn't overly spicy and has the tangy richness of tomatoes yet still and combines perfectly with the shrimp paste, the slow cooked beef included isn't overly soft and still maintains its texture. Side dishes that are worthy of attention is the Fried Rice Paper Roll, which has a nice savory filing of pork, black fungus and vermicelli making it a standout. Another side to have would be of course the crispy pork itself as an added topping with a bowl of noodles, and is a nice pairing with the bottled lagers they have on hand. There seems to be a rotation of deserts yet I've only had the Khao Niow Sung Kaya (Coconut sticky rice served with coconut custard) which is a light and not overly sweet dish however some could say it may be a bit on the tame side of flavor & texture compared to the main offerings. Decor is unassuming and spacious yet nicely contemporary, albeit the entrance to the place is a bit hidden and up a flight of stairs.

Never had Laotian food before so we were keen to try. The place is on the 2nd floor of a building. As warned, it would've been faster to take the stairs than the lift but we were not in a hurry. It was almost full when we arrived but happily we got a table and were promptly given menus and water. The house made rice noodle soup with chicken broth and boneless chicken is very similar to the Vietnamese pho. The noodles had good texture and weren't too hard or soft. The broth was flavoursome but the chicken pieces were overcooked and too dry for my liking. We also had the fried meatballs and fried rice paper rolls. Both were very edible but didn't stand out for us. Very generous serves meant there was no room for dessert. High ceilings and full height windows gave the place a spacious feel. The ladies always served with a smile. They were very quick with the smaller dishes but the noodle soup took a bit longer. It was a fair experience but with such a competitive gastronomy landscape in Melbourne, we probably won't be rushing back.

Service was friendly and quick. The broth was flavoursome but after a while can be overwhelming due to the amount of fried garlic and onions they put in there. I recommend asking them to reduce those or to serve on the side like condiments instead. The noodles were very gluggy and soft, not sure if this is a typical Lao style noodle, but i personally prefer something less soft. Had the pink milk tea and it was cheap and delicious. The amount of meat/ meatballs in both our soups was generous as well. A very nice place to visit in winter as the soup is served piping hot!

Noodles were so delicious. I have been craving the Lao style noodles for so long and haven't had them since my last trip to Laos, so I am glad there is a place I can go to for my cravings. I picked the chicken on bones, which were just chicken wings so I will never make that mistake again.

4.5
Amazing. This was the best noodle soup I’ve had in Melbourne. The crispy pork on top was divine - crispy and fatty perfection. The broth was tasty and the noodles plentiful. I couldn’t fault anything. For dessert I had the roti with coconut ice cream. Cheap and cheerful, I hope this place stays around for the long haul! I popped back in 2 days later, just for the roti and coconut ice cream. Already dreaming of my next visit.
Jodie
the best SE Asian noodles in Melbourne. Every visit without fail, we get the "oh my god so gooooood" reaction from their noodles. Its unusual to get fresh, delicious bamboo shoots not from cans and you can get them here. They're so good!!! The soup base is also crazy good! The whole dish is Faultless basically. Friendly staff, nice cozy venue.

Khao Piak Sen is like if my mum made it, this is fantastic.

Wish they had the Nam Khao dish on their regular menu.

Highly recommend!

A little hard to find, if you've never been there.

This is the easiest 5 I've ever given. Since having their pork belly, I've raved about it and planning my next visit.

Ordered:
🍜 Khao Piak Moo Krob: homemade rice noodles served in pork broth and topped with crispy pork ($14.50)

Review:
One of their top sellers and it's easy to see why. Pork belly was like flavour bombs; crispy on 3 sides and with an unhealthy layer of fat that melts in your mouth. What an unforgettable experience.

Pork broth was delicious too, along with the rice noodles. Soft and wonderful, it is also incredibly generous and filling.

However, please note that all their card payments charge a ridiculous 1.45% so please bring cash lol.

Fried pork and mushroom wantons by @noodlehouse.laolpb These little juicy parcels are so good. Love how the textures were really nice

Noodle House by Lao-Luangprabang is on the second floor of a non-descript building on Elizabeth Street – you’ll miss the signage if you’re walking briskly past. My laziness to climb the stairs was rewarded with such a slow-moving lift that my claustrophobia started rearing its head, threatening to turn into a full-blown panic attack, before the doors languidly opened to reveal a cosy setting with warmly lit wooden tables. My solid recommendation: do not take the lift.

This hidden noodle joint is every Laotian’s favourite, and unless someone tells you about it, you wouldn't know this place exists. They specialise in Laotian noodle soups and stir-fried noodles and everything from the broth to noodles are hand-made in-house. This place is right across the road from Queen Victoria Market and up two flights of stairs.

Dish 1: Pho Ngua
Dish 2: Pad Kee Mao

3.5 Stars. Came here quite late on a Friday night and the restaurant was still very lively & busy. Quaint restaurant located on the 2nd level of an apartment building with a range of Lao noodle dishes. Ordered the Beef Pho & the Crispy Pork noodle dish. Both were good without being spectacular. Service was prompt & attentive. Would return to try the other dishes.

Lovee this noodle place. The place is spacious and good service. Been here couple of times and always enjoyed my experience here.

Definitely will be back!

Located on Elizabeth St opposite Jasper Hotel up stairs... small restaurant. Average service. We had beef crispy noodle with gravy sauce and crispy pork soup with meatballs. The food nice

Noodle House by Lao-Luangprabang - Melbourne
Khao Piak Moo Krob
We are in a deep winter in Melbourne. The nights are cold, but the soups. The soups are warm. So warm.
Noodle House is a Laotian restaurant situated opposite Queen Victoria market, a place where bustling restaurants compete for the best soup. This restaurant has come out all guns blazing and built a huge reputation in a short amount of time. I ordered the Khao Piak Moo Krob which has a strong pork broth which is made even better with a huge amount crispy shallots and garlic throughout. This dish is a true winter warmer, a cure for any sniffle you might have! The meat in this dish is second to none. The crispy pork while quite fatty is cooked to perfection and is the ideal accompaniment to to the delicious broth. The pork balls like most pork balls are a co-star to the crispy pork but add a nice chewy texture to break up the crunch. As the soup cools down the noodles start to add a slightly thick texture to the broth, a symphony of flavours creating a fantastic soup option in the CBD.
🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢
Broth Flavour: 🍜🍜🍜🍜/5
Soup ingredients: 🍜🍜🍜🍜/5
Service: 🍜🍜🍜🍜/5
Overall: 🍜🍜🍜🍜/5
🥢🥢🥢🥢🥢

If you are into noodles, you should try this place. The soup broth is nice and the portion is pretty big. We tried 3 different noodles and they are all very good. Special mention for their crispy pork, as it's still crispy even if they put it in a soup. But somehow it didn't taste like the usual pork meat, it's somehow felt overly fried and hollow inside. We also tried the fried rice paper rolls. It's good.
The City Lane
The north end of Elizabeth Street is known for its assortment of quality, affordable Asian eats. Restaurants specialising in cuisines from all over the region, in particular South East Asia, provide plenty of choice for hungry diners looking for things both familiar and unfamiliar.

Those guys never make me disappointed. My most favourite place in town for friend reunions. Nice ambience, friendly staffs, delicious food. Not easy to find but good enough to survive.
Suggest: bamboo shoot beef soup; fried meat ball

Nice services. Great views. Delicious foods and good noodle soup, not too expensive for the quality. I recommend for who likes noodles, thank you.

Good size bowls and SUPER tasty soup. Really flavoursome and warming. The "chicken soup for the soul" kind of warming. You just feel so satisfied afterwards. Perfect for a Melbourne Winter's day. 👍

🥓 ORDERED MENU 🍳
Khao Piak Moo Krob, pork belly separated.

🙆 WHAT WENT WELL 🥰
✓ Food: Very large, hearty bowl of goodness. It was filled with aromatic herbs, and the portion of pork belly given was relatively well. I have to agree with everyone here: their pork belly is some of the most well cooked I've had around the city. Very crunchy and enjoyable. Broth was beautiful, reminds me of some home cooking. Oddly enough, tasted like kuah bakso.
✓ Service: Pleasant. They took my order quickly, and delivered it in the same speed.
✓ Value for money: While it is definitely on the pricier side of phos, I think due to the uniqueness of their dish, along with the beautiful food, I'd be happy to spend.

🙅 WHAT DIDN'T GO SO WELL 😬
× Nothing much, other than its elusive location, and my disappointment of the dish not being "the classic" pho.

Note: It is located in the second floor of the building opposite to QVM's Macca's. You should see a small panel with their logo. Their lift is unusually slow.

🌺 FINAL THOUGHTS ☘️
Definitely did not expect this small, hidden shop to taste this good! If you're near the area and unsure of what to eat, give this new genre a try! You'll be pleasantly surprised!
I went here for a quick lunch as I've heard so much about this.

- Khao piak moo krob: I really like the crispy pork in here because it remained crispy even in hot broth. The meat was tender and succulent as well. The broth was quite light and flavourful for my taste but I didn't realise it has so much fried garlic and shallot. The meatballs were very good as well, bouncy texture and very porky. I read in the review section that the noodle is like the one in Vietnamese pho so I was very hyped because I love pho. But I very quickly realised it only looks like pho. The texture was super dense and heavy, very gooey which I'm not fond of. I had to pair every spoon-full with the broth.

- Milk tea: just like how other restaurants serve Thai milk tea, very sweet but super satisfying.

Even though I didn't enjoy the noodles' texture that much I do think the price is reasonable for the overall quality and service. Ambience is quite spacious and deco is modern and simple. Service is prompt and nice.

I quite like the soup noodle here. Very simple and pretty tasty. Portions are pretty generous and very reasonable price. Perfect for a cold night when you are craving something warm. I like the Thai iced milk tea here.

Went three times and they were closed every single time. Needs better opening hours, super frustrating. The time I did manage to go, food was good.

This place can’t be more hidden. Located on the 2nd level of a residential apartment building(there’s a side stairway that leads to the restaurant), it’s easy to miss.

As me and my mates rocked up at the venue itself, it was surprising to see most seats filled up!

The food was good - home made rice noodles which had a sticky texture - that complemented the pho like dish I had. It was my first time having a go at Laotian cuisine and it was very similar to the viets - soup based dishes etc. the crispy pork was well seasoned though not crispy as you might have guessed as it was well soaked in the broth. The meat balls were well textured and tasty. My friends got the laksa-esq dish and they enjoyed it as well.

The staff were attentive and served with a smile so that’s always a plus! However, there were no split bills. Most restaurants adopt this approach to save them some time and labour but I feel they could do better with this.

Found this hidden gem near my house after being recommended by a colleague. It’s one of the best noodle soups in town and the portions are so generous! I’m generally a small eater but I polished this entire bowl off and almost finished all the soup. Super delicious.
Shirley
Not a really big fan of noodles, but this place after trying it once got me craving for more noodles. What’s best about this place is that they have vegetarian/vegan options available. For the noodle soups, it is a vegan broth made from scratch with noodles of your choice such as their signature homemade noodles, pho noodles or egg noodles. The broth consists of tofu and different type of vegetables. For the wok-fry option, I would say it’s best to go for the Pad See Yew which has oyster sauce and egg in it, but it can also be opt out if you’re a vegan or just not a fan of oyster sauce and egg. For the small plates, give their fresh rice paper roll a go as it is made fresh and can be made as a vegetarian option. Give this place a go if you’re ever at QVM doing your weekly grocery shopping.

Came across this restaurant after my morning grocery run at QVM and decided to give it a go as I’ve never tried Laotian food before. After my first try, I found myself coming back for more and more ㅋㅋ Their Khao Piak Moo Krob is a must try if you’re coming for the first time. Order yourself one or two fresh rice paper rolls with their homemade milk tea. You’ll leave this place with a happy heart and stomach.

Noodle house by Lao-Luangprabang 화이팅!!!

We got a pho ngua and a fried meatballs. The noodles were not Vietnamese rice noodles but were pretty good anyway. The brisket and beef slices were relatively tender. The soup was quite flavourful but tasted a bit like instant noodle soup. The meatballs were just your Normal beef meatballs but deep fried.
Rob Ho
I give this place only 3 star as my oyster sauce noodles with chicken was a bit too sweet for my taste. The pho was better. I guess if you like sweet noodles this is for you. Otherwise, atmosphere was nice and the staff pleasant. We also tried the deserts. The coconut ice cream on roti was fantastic.
Amimi
A bit of many south-east Asia flavours mixed together. Large serving, generous with extra veggies, and very appetising.
I would come here again to try other dishes.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Beef broth rice noodle
+ Fried meatball

There are so many noodle and ramen places now in Melbourne, but I am glad this one joined the list to serve up a different (Laos) version of this popular dish. I tried both the chicken broth (home made rice noodle) and the beef broth rice noodle. Both broths were delightfully flavoursome and delicious. I personally preferred the non home made rice noodles as it was less grainy and had a smoother month fill. The fried meatballs were also really good (bouncy, tasty and moorish). The servings were generous and packed with loads of beef/chicken pieces. Service was quick and efficient. Will definitely be back to try out some of the other options.
Sue
Really yummy noodles with generous portions! This relatively new restaurant is top choice for me when I’m craving noodles. Also one of my favourite restaurants.. The fried spring rolls are amazing too. Keep doing what you’re doing and never change :)

Nice ambiance, great food & service. The black board with lots of handwritings is so lovely! P/S: Beware of the very spicy chilli oil, just a little bit is enough! ;)

Food is amazing, i tried all and everything is really good in here but only the delay in serving the food that makes it 4 stars, i will make sure to come back here. Reccomended

Usually, when restaurants say "Crispy Roast Pork", they do not come out crispy and I am left utterly disappointed and annoyed. NOT here at Noodle House by Lao-Luangprabang! The crispy pork is actually crispy!!! Just don't let it soak in the soup for too long. Service: the waitresses could be more attentive and look around a bit more. The pork balls were also tasty without much fillers. By the time I wrote this review, I had already been there for my second round of Crispy Roast Pork noodles!
Sundays With Jamie
Absolutely love this place! I ordered the recommended dish, 'Khao Plak Sen' - Homemade rice noodles served with special chicken broth with boneless chicken. The chicken broth is so comforting and SO full of flavour.

Service is also fantastic!
FOOD TRIP
Noodle House by Lao is one of the few places in Melbourne where you can try out some Lao cuisine. The place is very hard to find as its located on the second floor and only has a small sign outside. Food is decent, but probably wouldn't come back. Butterfly Pea Lemonade $4. Loved the vibrant colour of this drink! Tasted just like light lemonade ★★☆
Pluviophile
We heard a lot about this Melbourne’s only Laotian place so we had to try it. We ordered the seafood pad kee mo and their famous rice noodle soup with the crispy pork on a separate plate, just like the suggestion in many of the reviews. The taste was amazing. It’s similar to Vietnamese and Thai but the texture of the rice noodles was definitely different. The pork was really good and very crispy. The meat balls were also nice and solid, just like the balls in Indonesian street vendors. You need to be careful with the chilli, though, as the spiciness could build up very quickly in your mouth. The portion size were generous and very fulfilling. The staff were nice although the service was a bit slow. Overall it was a great meal, very happy tummy.

I have heard great things about this noodle place and have been wanting to try it forever. I didn’t realize it was so close to Queen Victoria markets, otherwise I would have gone visit it regularly when I used to work around there. This time I gathered a few friends to have a quick dinner there, thankfully they take last minute bookings on a Friday night.

We ummmed and ahhhhed because there were so many yummy choices we could have! Stir fried noodles or noodles soup? Ohhhh there are some specials too! And entrees! They all looked amazing.

We finally decided on some meatballs and fried wontons to share, and have a bowl of noodle soup each.

The meatballs was nice and spicy, probably a touch too spicy for my friends (but great for me). The deep fried wontons was way to hard. They were like little over cooked rocks.

My spicy beef noodles are not as spicy as I thought, but it was still very hearty and tasty nonetheless. I had extreme food envy with my best friend’s pork noodles with super yummy looking crispy pork though. I think next time I will try that!

Order their noodle soup with the pork belly separated. It tastes amazing, their pork belly is so crunchy, and their soup is packed with flavor. Just the perfect combo, i will definitely come back😆

This place has huge serving sizes and is well worth your money. I reckon the best thing on the menu is the pad see yew - delicious flat rice noodles with a lot of wok-tossed flavour.

NOODLES | wow long time no post, but the food adventures are back 😘🙂 This place was recommended to me by a mate a couple months ago but i kind of just forgot about it. BUT, I am so glad that I remembered because the food here was so yummy!! We got the Khao Piak Moo Krob which is the noodle soup and also the Pad See Yaew which is the fried noodles 😝 The broth was so flavoursome and I will definitely be returning 🤤🤤🤤 #melbournefood #asianfood #melbournefoodie #marinabrunchnmunch

Arrive before 12:30 to beat the lunch crowd.

Friendly and fast service.

We each had the recommended Pho Ngua which didn’t disappoint. Plenty of assorted beef and the broth was very ‘clean’, super tasty.

Meal was very enjoyable on a cool day to Melbourne. Would come back and try other dishes.

First time having Laos food.. the soup was nice and did not have a strong msg aftertaste.. similar though not entirely the same as Vietnamese pho... most of the noodles dishes had handmade noodle and you can observe them being made from the dining area.. we ordered khao Piak Sen & Khao Piak Moo Krob.. definitely will come back to try out other noodle & snacks especially the wonton which looked delicious, we noticed quite a few tables did order this..

If there was ever a hidden gem in Melbourne, this would be it! Best pork belly to ever enter my mouth!!!! Can’t fault any of the dishes here, everything was flavoursome, fresh, spicy and delicious. I can’t believe there aren’t queues lining up for a seat in this place. I already can’t wait to come back. Oh & service was amazing too :)
Vanessa
You don’t see many Laos restaurants in the city. This one doesn’t disappoint either. With some similarities to Thai and Vietnamese culinary delights, this restaurants has its own spin on its Laos-style dishes. Do not miss out on the rice paper rolls because they’re simply amazing. And you can’t go wrong with noodle soups either. Friendly and welcoming staff coupled with prompt service.
NoCapsicumPlease
The restaurant is literally hidden as we have to go up inside a look-like-residence building. I wanted to order the noodle soup crispy pork but ended up ordering the wrong one. The broth is not so good but not too bad, I rekon it needs more bone/meat concentrate.
Eatingmakesmehappy
Came here with a friend on Sunday lunchtime, and it seemed like we were one of the earliest groups of costumers at that time. I ordered a Khao Piak Sen which is rice noodles with chicken and chicken balls. The serve was large. And its warmth lasts for a long time, which is nice during the chilly winter days. Broth had a bit strong pepper flavor mixed with chicken flavor. Rice noodles were sticky (tasted like glutinous rice texture ?) and different from Vietnamese pho. Overall it was nice, just a bit pricey.
Linda
A decent cheap, quick and tasty feed. Service and portions were good too. A menu of predominantly Laos flavours with Thai and Vietnamese added into the mix. Warning - don’t use the lifts to go upstairs. Soo dodgy! Almost got stuck!

Haven’t stopped thinking about the noodles since I ate them a month ago. Had the crispy pork noodles and wow, the broth was packed with an incredible pork flavour and umami-ness. The noodles had a great chewy texture you don’t find at many places. Only wish I’d ordered the pork on the side so it stayed crispier for longer. My friend had the special kao soi and that’s what I’m hanging out to try next time!

After we went to victoria night winter market, we were hungry and stumble on this place on top of sambal kampung, and it didn’t disappoint.
We have to wait quite a bit as the restaurant was full house and we got to see the menu first as well as the special written on the board. We ordered their pork noodle, chicken noodle (they said recommended but the pork one better i think), pork belly wrap and meatball. Everything were awesome and it make me salivating just to think about that thick peppery soup broth now. Ill be back, soon!
Bon Bon
I have been here a few times. They served some of the best south east asian noodle soup. So,there is a bit of Thai and Vietnamese influence though this is a Laos noodle place. I love their special home made noodle with crispy pork. Have also tried their mee kati with is similar to laksa without chilli, the rich soup is certainly very tasty and nice for winter. The ambience here is also very relaxing. Comparing to those vietnamese noodle soup restaurant in city, this is definitely a very comfortable place to dine in. Will keep coming back.

A hidden gem in the city selling special Laos Noodle. I always choose Khao Piak Sen with boneless chicken. The taste is unique with dominant of peppery taste. I also tried Mee Krob. The crispy noodle tastes odd in the beginning. But as the noodle get softer, it tastes good.

Lovely place opposite Queen Vic Mkt. Serves great Laos food. The Pork belly noodles soup is flavorful. Service is good too. It's on the 2nd floor, on top of Sambal Kampung restaurant.

This was the first time i tried Laotian food. Absolutely loved the flavours. I had the rice noodles with pork belly and pork balls. The soup base is complex and full of flavours and the noodles had a nice texture. The dish was steaming hot and was a perfect winter warmer. I also liked the amount of spring onions and fried shallots on the top -- definitely added a lot of texture and aroma. Staff was very friendly and polite. My only minor criticism is that the skin on the fried pork belly is soggy because all the pork pieces were soaked in the soup when served, but if that is the authentic laotian way i respect it
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Having been to Luangprabang and living near the area myself, I can confirm that the khao piek at Noodle House very authentic. The soup was spot on, the crispy pork was crispy and yummy. The noodle is a bit chewy (as how it's supposed to be). Extremely yummy! Would definitely go back again.

Didn't know that noodle soup can be this good 🍜
Big serving, with generous meat inside.

The menu is rather limited, and a tad more expensive than the usual. I would recommend their specialties (see picture), you won't regret it!

The best Lao Food you can find hands down!
The Kao piakoo Krob is my favourite.
The soup is like warm hug, reminds me of mom's cooking! The crispy pork is the BEST!

I brought so many friends over to try it out and everyone keeps coming back!

Laos noodle house.

Ambience: The place is definitely bit hidden as it is located on the 2nd floor of the building attached to Zen apartment. (There's a sign fortunately) The place itself is reasonably spacious, there are seatings overlooking the street as well, however i sat at a table for two near the wall. Overall pretty chill and laid back.

Service: The service was friendly and pretty efficient. Food take some time but a reasonable wait. The table next to us did complain for waiting a long time for their meal, although fortunately we didn't experience that.

Food: Crispy pork noodle soup (Khao piak moo krob)'s broth was very flavorful, a bit too salty for my liking also it's a bit thicker than usual soup (i prefer if its not too thick), topped with spring onions and fried shallots.
The crispy pork was on point (asked them to separate it from the soup) as it was crispy and not tough, flavour was just right and the fat and meat ratio was 👌. The meatballs were also yummy and had a great texture to it.
The rice noodle itself is pretty good, though a tiny bit sticky (my friend loved it though). Nonetheless a must-try.
(You can request for chilli oil and cut chilli as well)
Generous portion, so it will definitely fill you up.

Returned twice after.

Their beef pho was my FAV, it's just so good. The flavor of the soup is just right, it's so hearty and stays warm long. There are beef brisket slices, beef balls and some cartilages (?) which was crunchy. I also had to mention the noodle because it the best rice noodles I've had in a pho, amazing texture (flat and thin) and doesnt get soggy or too soft at the end.
Served with fresh bean sprouts and lime wedge.

Their rice paper rolls were bigger than ur average so it's such a good bargain. Not only that, taste was bomb. It was the perfect ratio between the vegs, vermicelli and meat in the perfectly wrapped roll, and that sauce was ✨✨✨

Fried meatballs was again good portion. It was nicely fried, good bouncy texture and taste was great despite a bit too salty for me to eat by itself, good to accompany a dish though. Thankfully it's served with some cut cucumbers, and slaw to help with the saltiness.

Also had their pork wrapped in soring onions, but we changed it to prawns on extra charge. It was also yum, there was fired egg slices and the prawn was good size and had good texture. Same sauce as the paper rolls which i loveeeee.

Fried wonton was crispy and the meat was flavorful but kinda lack bit of juice and the skin was a bit thick.

Lastly their pad kee maw was my least favorite. Noodle texture was okay and prawn was fine but the calamari was bit fishy and the sauce was weird in flavour, like sourish and it gets sickening to eat pretty fast as it's too saucy. Pretty generous portion still.

Price: The price is a bit pricy but for what you get I think it is worth it.

YUM: Khao piak moo krob
NAH: none

photos: Khao piak moo krob and fried wonton

xx、 joelle

Waiting for 1hour for the two noodle soup!! Not worth for the wait. No explain, and said your food coming but compensate. Only say sorry and sorry and sorry!! After waiting for 30 min staff asking us to change other food. I thought this noodle soup will be so good for the wait to be turn out just average. Not worth for the wait and won’t be come back anymore

Unhurried. This is a venue where you want to be unhurried and take all the time you need. The pork soup is huge and steaming hot so you need to take your time with it. The hand made noodles have a sensational texture. There were so many nuggets of crispy roast pork, I kept finding more and more. The broth is not quite Vietnamese, not quite Thai - complex and delicious, a fantastic introduction to Lao cuisine. The fresh rice paper roll and the accompanying dipping sauce was amazing too. Come with an empty stomach and a good 45 mins to properly enjoy. 5 stars.

When the weather is gloomy and cold, crispy pork noodle adds sunshine to your day. The combination of their beautifully made broth, crispy pork, meat balls and the noodle texture (plus their hot chilli sauce) will leave you feeling so satisfied.

We also ordered the crispy noodle with beef. Unfortunately, it's too sweet to our likings.

We will come back for sure to try something else from their menu and on top of that we'll order the same crispy pork noodle again if we're feeling very hungry.
Food For Thought
Not the easiest restaurant to find but it's right opposite to the Queen Victoria market. The lao-tian noodles with crispy pork is awesome. The pork broth was flavoursome, crispy pork cooked to perfection, pork balls were delicious and the rice noodles had a soft pillowy texture. I would suggest asking for the crispy pork to be served separately from the soup noodles so that it stays crispy. If you love spice, do try the chilli oil but take care with it as it was really spicy! Luckily I had an iced coffee with my meal to cool down my tongue.

Loved this beautiful food! The place has a lovely atmosphere, the service was friendly but not OTT and the price was surprisingly low for the quality and amount of food you receive - definitely recommend!! ♥️♥️♥️

This rating is a reflection of the wait time for our food (over 30 mins for wok fried choices), availability of the food choices on the menu and wait staff inflexibility to provide a refund when food was not available. Even with the above, I thought the food should be able to speak for itself. However it missed the spot. Overall not a successful experience

I lived in Laos for a little while and I loved the food and the culture of the beautiful country. This place very much takes me back to when I was in Laos and on the side street I would order Khao Soi. Onto the review, I thought they did very well to replicate the delicious street food in Laos. The service is great and if you have been to Laos or not you will enjoy this restaurant.

Quite the hole in the wall spot dishing up Laotian dishes, most notably noodle soups. I can count on one hand how many times I've eaten Lao food, uhm not many if any.

The waitress suggested we get their Khao Piak Moo Krob (which was what I was going to choose anyway) purely because it had crispy pork in it. It did take awhile to prepare but it was totally worth it, broth peppery with lots of herbs and fried shallots. Noodles were thick, chewy and gooey. Pork whilst being submerged still had a little crackle to it and the meatballs were nice and bouncy. This was really perfect up until the point I decided to add a spoon of their chillis, ohh my... I pretty much desecrated the broth. My mouth was burning, I was getting the sweats and people were looking at me funny. Beware the chillies!!!

what a hidden little gem! the noodle soups we had were full of flavour and the sour chilli sauce was amazing. we also ordered the pork belly wrap things. they came out and looked bland and boring... were we wrong! they were so delicious that we had to order a second plate. cant wait to visit again. only negative is that some of the dishes were a tad salty for my taste. but that definitely wont stop me from eating here again!

This place is a gem, such flavourful soup, crispy crispy pork, tender meatball, and friendly service, recommended! Not sure why the review in Zomato is so low though.

I came here all the time and it's my favorite. lovely staff as well as the asian noodles. Don't know why it's rated so low on zomato... Highly recommended

One of the best place for noodle in town. Love every dish. Been here many times and never disappointed. Noodle House is a melbourne go-to place

First time at Noodle House today, and I'm wondering why the ratings are not higher. My friend and I both ordered the blackboard special Khao Soy. The silky rice noodles with asian greens in a flavoursome pork broth is clean-tasting on the palette. We were told traditionally, this noodle soup is topped with a tomato-ey meat sauce that you mix through the dish. Unsure of what to expect, we requested the meat sauce as a side serve. It was all good. The perfect balance of flavours in this one dish suggest the other menu options should not disappoint. Never mind the low-key street appeal or the slow elevator to this upstairs eatery. We really liked the food, the helpful and friendly service and the cool modern fitout.

Good atmosphere, friendly service and nice Laos food!
The stock of the noodle soup is very falvoursome!
The fish fall entree is nice too!
Will come back again!

It's just opposite Victoria market, on the second floor. Near university of Melbourne. Very convenient for uni student to have lunch and dinner. Quiet environment, very suitable for chatting as well. Excellent service and food, will definitely come back😋😋

I went here because my friend suggested me that they are good at Laos Noodle. But from my point of view I will say just SoSo though.
The first time I went with one of a friend in lunch time but not so many tables and we ordered the Khaopiensen each. Turned out we needed to wait more than 20 mins( so 0.5 point deducted for slower than standard service). When the noodles came, the soup based was very good and like the soup based I always having in Thailand but the meat ball that come on top is not going together well and taste was like coming from frozen meat ball pack instead it should have been the pig blood and it will taste lots better that way. (0.5 pt deducted)
The noodle itself although cooked and made well but could have been thinner and smaller so it dipping and blending well in soup based. (o.5 deducted ) and last thing is the price 1 bowl $14.5 but portion is like other places small serve which is considerred pricey. (0.5 pt deducted)

Delicious food with lots of love. Decent staff and service was good even though hard to get attention sometimes because not full house..maybe. But definitely happy to return.

Been a regular customer for this place since it's opening, and has been very good in consistently maintaining its standard in terms of food.

Although it may be on the pricier side, compared to other places nearby, do rest assured that you get what you pay for - hand made noodles, high quality broth and good quality sides.

Quality does not drop despite ordering take-away as well. Special requests such as more soup, less spicy are the little things that make the experience more personalised. Appreciative of service received.

0.5 is due to staffing reasons, hard to get it perfect sometimes. But they do a decent job.

Overall, NHLL is recommended for people looking for a good mix of quality food and ambience. Look out for the white signs that point you where to go! Definitely worth the stair climb.

This is the second time to come here with my friend. Me and my friend are happy with these dishes because of the amazing flavour. Thank you.

Had the beef and chicken soup noodles. Have to say, the Chicken soup was one of the best I ever had and the beef soup was definitely the best. Just pure, clean and fresh beef taste!

Best homemade noodles in town no doubt! And their fried spring rolls and Juan look seen are amazing!! The whole place looks inviting with nice lighting. They have really great service as well! 😋 10/10 would come again!

Rarely give comments on Zomato. But saw the manager replied one of the comments and I would also like to speak to the manager about the food and service.
Service should be improved. The staff was kind and tired her best to introduce the desert menu in Chinese as she thought that it might be easier for us to understand. However, she was also the same staff that came and spray cleaning products and wipe our table when we were not ready to leave yet. It was only around 8:30 at that time. There was still three tables including us and one of the table just placed their orders. If the restaurant was going to close soon, she could have just told us straight forward or tell us the kitchen is closing soon and ask if we want to add any order. It was just completely inappropriate to wipe the table and force us to leave. More staff training is necessary.
Had a positive impression on food. I'm a soup person and the soup noodles had lots of soup compared to other restaurants which was really nice. Also, the beef tendons were very soft but the sliced beef were over cooked and hard to chew. The crispy noodles tasted great as well. Chill sauce was excellent.
Rating of 4 for food and 3 for service.

Ideal for big groups as it is a hidden place with ample seating! (Edit: They are getting really busy on weekends nowadays). The Mee Leung with roast pork was lovely and satisfying on a cold wintry night. Roast pork was tender and juicy, and soup flavour was authentic. A hidden gem!

Most authentic Lao cuisine and amazing service! I had the pork noodle soup and it was so delicious! And their serving size makes sure you dont go home hungry! I'll be recommending this hidden gem to all my family and friends!

Took away Mee Krob and it tastes so delicious!
Crispy noodles with beef gravy, yummylicious! 😋
Especially dipping the beef slices with their homemade sour chilli with vinegar!
Definitely returning to try more of their noodles. 😊
Came here for lunch and ordered their beef noodle soup. I would say the broth is not flavoured enough. A bit disappointed in it. The crispy noodle was better. I like their design. It gives u a cafe feeling than a noodle house. Service was excellent.

My 1st time here and the Pho Ngua is SOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD. If you love beef you HAVE to try this. The soup is so good and just suitable for this winter weather.

Their service is good! Angmoh boss is so friendly!

The environment is very comfortable. Very clean toilet.

The price is affordable and definitely worth it for this SUPER DELICIOUS PHO NGUA!!!!!

Will definitely visit again when I travel again to Melbourne!
Come here for a lot of time but this time is the baddest time ever. Ordered Pho Ngua and ask for no onions, the staff asked me the fried onions is okay i say yes and received a bowl with a lot of spring onions. When i get back the girl just said because you asked for no onions you didn't ask for NO spring onions. And then the attitude was so bad to me she said just scoop it out and eat it. How come they can do that to customers yeah. i didn't even open the box i just saw a lot of onions and i bring up for them. Thats unacceptable. When the girl gave me my order back she was like NEXT TIME JUST SAY NO SPRING ONIONS. if they work in a restaurant they have to responsibility what ever they do wrong not only blame on customers like that. 1/10 won't return.

Did a take away for Khao Piak Moo Krab, Mee Kati and red sweetness with palm seed. The noodles and soup of Khao Piak Moo Krab was not packed in a separate container to my disappointment because I truly dislike soggy noodles. Luckily the crispy pork was packed in a separate paper bag. The surface of the noodles does turned soggy and sloppy maybe because it has been soaked in the soup in a cover container for probably 30 minutes or so but i still could feel the springyness of it towards the middle. The soup is full of flavour and the crispy pork is pretty average. The crispy pork skin is so crispy but the meat is a bit dry. The chilli oil that comes with the noodle is really good if you like the heat. Mee kati is pack in a separate container. The broth of Mee kati is so flavourful, thick and rich. However I think it is worth to mention in the menu that the broth contain peanuts. And needless to say because the noodles and broth was not packed in the same container the noodle remain fresh and springy. Red sweetness and palm seed is really sweet and have strong flavour when it was drank on its own but it complements the noodles well. I will go back to try other dishes on the menu.

I've been here so many times, their food is just amazing, I love Lao style the beef pho and khao piak sen the most and highly recommended for you to try and won't regret it!

🇱🇦 Always feel like home when having food here

Oh, their ice coffee is also very tasty!

Friendly staff

Pleasant environment, nice songs,
the rest room is very clean
I had the khao piak moo krob and pink milk tea. It was really good and a decent size meal. Definitely worth the try. Will be back for more and it was just as good as the khao piak i have in laos. For those who have not had lao noodle soups before. I highly recommend khao piak moo korb at noodle house.

I love my Khao Piak spicy... chilli oil on point and give the broth abit of a kick.

The drink is also my favourite, Red sweetness with palm seed is perfect for a sweet refreshing drink after a spicy khao piak.

Im from laos and I can say that this restaurant serves meals that makes me feel at home. I love the pho and the sukiyaki sauce is so good. The small plate pun hua horm is also really good. And not to mention beerlao. 🍺🍺

The food is amazing! Especially the homemade fried spring rolls and khao poon num seen, which is a unique laotian noodle soup and you could not find it anywhere else in Melbourne!
