Light Years is a bit of an Instagram hotspot so I was a bit concerned that the food would be very pretty but not so nice to eat. I'm happy to report that the food is pretty good.
Our favourite is the Bircher Muesli which is also available as a $6 takeaway tub to take home. The chicken burger was great with good flavour and generous portion. The Big breakfast was just okay, nothing special and a little oily. We added avocado which I was surprised was literally half of an avocado with no seasoning.
Service was a bit sporadic. There were many staff who seemed quite disorganised and jobs were only partly done before being abandoned. E.g. half of our table was cleared, water jugs were not refilled.

🍴 Persian fetta potato croquette - eggs poached perfectly. Crunchy potato croquette that was full of flavour. A little bit of kale to make you feel a little healthy. Very delicious meal.
Went there with a group of friends. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food and coffee. I had the smashed avocado. The pistachio butter was so yummy. The servings are quite big for us. Service was really friendly. It's the perfect place to catch up with friends over great coffee and food.

Eggs benedict was of a good serving size and had a nice combinations of flavors.
Waffles wasn’t as light as anticipated but it was nicely plated and taste good when combined with the fruits.
Matcha latte and skinny latte was nice and complimented our meals.
The place served way beyond my expectations from food to the ambience, it was just perfect. The Big vegetarian brekky was so satisfying and it did gave me a great start to the busy week ahead. And the chilli scrambled eggs had a great texture with appropriate balance of flavours. Also, we finished off with the cheesecake, not the best but definitely worth a try.
Would definitely visit again to try their brunch.
The coffee was amazing but a bit slow to come out, however it was a long weekend and it was relatively busy.
Super friendly service made up for the slow coffee. The food was great quality and came out relatively quickly, with all dishes at the same time.

Probably closer to 3.5/4. Service is pretty average as you actually don't know where to wait to be seated, and staff aren't attentive enough to manage customer flow. But having said that, they were friendly enough.
Food and coffee however, is good. The food is really well presented, definitely an instagram style cafe, with their pixelated avocado and all. Overall, would return if in the area. The venue is really well designed.

Light years cafe offers creative and beautifully presented dishes! The eggs Benedict is a perfect marriage of flavours and very satisfying. I found the waffles a bit too sweet, with the sugar overpowered many of the other flavours, but always a good treat. Beautiful interior and service is friendly.
Light years serves classy, well presented food and is one of the better cafes around the area.
The beetroot cured salmon salad is a highlight.

Menu is very innovative and change regurlarly. the interior is great and modern. service was quick and decent. Food was nice and also coffee.
Went here today with my best friend. Don’t know when they have changed menu, I was about to order vegan zucchini meatballs while they don’t have it anymore (sad sad). So I had their vegan Sweet Potato Noodle Salad which was surprisingly good! Plus it’s not a cold version salad, and look at that size!!!! It’s HUGE.
My friend had her Miso thingy (forgot the name) with added salmon. She’s full too! We’re both happy about our dishes turned out.

I couldn’t resist getting the Pixel Avocado which came with a slice of sourdough, poached egg, edamame hummus & freeze dried standing up crispy kale😍 I added bacon & mushrooms (because mushrooms are life) and they gave really generous portions of this which is such a plus when you have to order them on top👌🏻
This avocado brunch was honestly up there on one of the best creative Avo on toast I’ve had and I spent about 10 minutes just deciding what to pick! I need to come back to try the.. breakfast bun, vegan meatballs & zucchini noodles & rosti.
Comparisons: similar to Higher Ground in terms of ambience, food plate up and cafe layout. I wasn’t expecting it to be so quite modern and fancy! Staff were nice too.
Really lovely and spacious place. The staff were terrific and and food came very quickly. The food was delicious, especially the freshness of the chicken in the burger. Loved the presentation and overall flavours! The juices were really refreshing and tasty.
I decided to try this cafe out after hearing good reviews. I was Immediately greeted by friendly staff and decided to order their famous pixel avocado on toast and a smoothie. The dish plates beautifully however I was left a little hungry still afterwards.

Fast, friendly service. I ordered a take away latte. The cafe wasn’t busy at the time, so there was plenty of places to sit down, I got there at 1:30pm on a Saturday. The coffee was nice however it wasn’t warm enough.
Seriously, this cafe is awesome! Came because they won the 2018 rewards plus friends’ recommendation. Not disappointed at all! The coffee, food and service are all five star! My kids love the seaweed chips so much! And I love my miso flavour scramble egg. Definitely will back again soon!
Lights Year is a cafe in Hawthorn East. The interior is light and airy, with stone and timber fittings.
The menu is creative, with an Asian influence. Not only are the meals visually stunning, but they taste delicious too!
I ordered the famous Pixel Avocado with a side of smoked salmon. The dish was impeccably presented, and took the classic avocado on toast to the next level. The flavours were the perfect blend of fresh ingredients. I loved the addition of an edamame hummus and the crispy kale. The dish is a true standout and I consider it one of the best avocado on toast dishes.
My sister opted for the miso scramble eggs with soy roasted mushrooms, seaweed, nori, spring onion, charred corn and milk bread sticks. The bread sticks provided a nice crunch and texture. The dish was filling and flavourful and overall enjoyable.
Overall I rate Light Years ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ our of 5, and I recommend that you check them out. Thanks Light Years for having me.

Light years cafe is such a lovely place. We got a chance to try a few dishes from their menu, including miso scramble eggs, pixel avo on toast and bircher muesli. The miso scramble was really good! The miso sauce went really well with the eggs, we also had a bacon on the side as well, which made it even better. The pixel avo and muesli were quite good as well.

Strongly recommend the signature dishes here-Fish n chips & pork belly eggs benedict,the avocado on sourdough was average, nothing memorable, and my small advice would be the coffee can be a bit more stronger.
Came here with a group of 18 ladies, and so happy that we can make the booking for such big group. We three ladies ordered 2 dishes to share with and we all enjoyed it. Pixel Avocado with soft shell crab + Breakfast Bun. Yummy !

Verdict: comfortable and cool cafe which is a little further from the junction but definitely worth visiting.
Two reasons I would give this place a good rating, one being the reasonably-affordable price bracket - as we all know Camberwell / Hawthorn area being the high density area for cafes (with quite some overpriced ones), Light Years really offers a price mark we want to return to. It also serves a right portion size, not too much to waste food but not too little to be unsatisfied.
More, although I'd agree that the food have strong Asian influenced, the dishes are well-designed as food items match well each other eg. crispy kale & cabbage go perfectly with edamame haloumi. I'm been to enough cafes that stack novelty foods to make it photogenic but in fact don't mix well, which I'm happy to see Light Years doing the right thing.
Lovely cafe. An effort for quality and creativity was on display for sure. Food and coffee was done to a high standard and justifies that brunch bill. The cabinet was a bit low on exciting options, but at least done well. A good place to visit if you’re around the area.
Light years café is a gorgeous space with high ceilings, lots of natural sunlight and greenery. The kind of setting you want to eat brunch around. They have an exciting menu with things you’ve never had before. Even you’re avo is not just smashed, it’s pixelated. That’s right, we’re light years ahead now and smashed avo is a thing from the past. There are lots of great choices on the menu that will get you curious and leave you satisfied.
Busy crowded cafe but service was good.
Lots of vegan options - I went with a green juice and the delicious zucchini bolognese with vegan meatballs.
Hubby had the lamb and a side of kfc haloumi- he enjoyed his meal also.

Very tasty food! The pork belly benny was very very good, cooked well, apple a nice touch and good hollandaise. The beans were a little undercooked it seems but the sauce they were in was delicious.
Nice fit out and easy to get a table, only downside was the guy who served us a few times and at the end just seemed like he did not want to be there at all and was a bit rude.

We ordered two hot chocolates, the breaky bun and the pork belly benedict. Hot chocolates were good, the breaky bun was great (definitely recommend) and the egg benedict was good (pretty average). Customer service was alright (nothing special but generally friendly) and the store is beautiful. All in all, this was a pleasant place to eat brunch and we definitely enjoyed our food - will be coming back to explore some of the other dishes.
It's worth coming to have a look inside! It is modern, minimalist& beautiful! I had a coffee and its was good but really fruity (not my fav) but wouldn’t complain!

Really wished I had ordered the pixel avocado like my dining companion! My protein pancakes were nothing special but the avocado pixel dish with the soft shell crab was divine! Highly recommend the waffle chips with nori salt too! Staff friendly and efficient.
Cosy cafe with a nice interior design and lots of natural lighting (good for instagram photos hehe). Many come here for the pixel avocado, so I thought I'd try something different; we ended up ordering the sauteed mushrooms, miso scrambled eggs, pork belly eggs benedict and soft shell crab burger. Personally, I found the eggs benedict rather average, typical of what you'd find in any cafe. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and seasoned well, the parsnip puree and coffee soil on the egg were nice touches overall to that dish. The milk bread sticks on the scrambled eggs dish were outstanding. Service was good, overall I can't fault this place. Will definitely be back :)

Tried this place out with a friend as I had an entertainment book voucher and we were not disappointed. We both ordered the waffles which were amazing. We also got a side of the fried halloumi which seriously tasted like fried chicken - amazing. So filling we couldn’t finish.

Have visited Light Years a couple times in the last 2 weeks, both times have been enjoyable. The cafe has a very industrial feel which is really cool, plenty of seating and staff that are friendly.
The menu has a number of great options, plenty that caught my eye but we decided on the following: breakfast bun with caramelized onions, slow cooked beans and the protein chocolate chip pancakes (must try!!). All dishes looked good, tasted great and were well portioned. Really satisfied with all our meals! Coffees both times have been really nice as well.
A pleasant experience both times and would visit again to try more from their menu.

I have an internal magnet that gravitates towards soft shell crab, so today's venue was recommended by a friend. On a menu with many appetising possibilities, we made our selections and were soon distracted by well presented matcha, turmeric and caffe lattes.
In quick succession the food arrived as we admired the aesthetic presentation. The Pixel Avocado caught everyone's attention with its upstanding dried kale. We tucked in and oh that's an awesome soft shell crab burger. With Sriracha mayo, sesame slaw, coriander and seaweed crackers on the side, the combination was bursting with flavour and superb in texture. My friends enjoyed their choices of Spiced Israeli Chicken with Cardamon Rice Salad, Zucchini Bolognese and the Breakfast Bun.
A modern, light filled space to enjoy inspired cafe fare, the efficient service enables quick turnover and appeals to the discerning crowd. Servers were attentive throughout but ranged from the friendly to the surly and in between. Overall a very good experiment and worth repeating.

We came across another great brunch place over the weekend! Light Years is located on the less busy end of Camberwell Rd in Hawthorn East so it was fairly easy to find parking on a Saturday. The cafe is quite a large open and modern space with plenty of floor to ceiling windows right around, allowing lots of natural light to spill in. There are plenty of tables and chairs and we were seated right away.
Light Years has a very industrial modern interior to it which is very welcoming. We visited on a public holiday and sat at one of the benches as most tables were taken.
We ordered the smoothie bowl and the Belgian waffles for food. The waffles came with an abundance of fresh fruit and overall I would have said the waffles were quite light but still very filling.
The smoothie bowl too was nice and full of flavour. Note though that a smoothie bowl is not an Acai bowl for those ordering and will have a different flavour.
The staff were lovely and very friendly. Only thing was drinks could have been a bit hotter.
Would definitely visit again.
Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. He grabbed the soft shell crab burger which we both enjoyed! I grabbed the pork belly eggs Benedict which was good, but the tomato paste on the muffin and the thin slice of apple was a little too overpowering to complement the other flavours. Absolutely loved the waffle chips and would definitely grab them again, along with the soft shell crab burger. My partner and I agree that in terms of flavour and options on the menu, this place is not as good as Hammer and Tong (same owners). Nonetheless, it is still worthy of 4 stars ⭐️
What a treat to find a cafe with properly closing doors on a cold Saturday morning 😊. This together with the delicious coffee and food (zucchini noodles and mushroom French toast) make this place deserve a 5 start ranking. I will be back!
Went there on Monday for brunch and the place was quite full, we had to wait for our table but it was not too long. My friend had been here several times so she had try the famous pixel avocado. We started with coffees and they're using Duke's coffee beans which we really love. I had the miso scrambled egg, it was really good but the bread stick was a bit too hard and dry for my liking. The egg benedict was great too but I tried the soaked apple and it tasted a bit off for some reason. I thought it was just me but my friend thought the same. If you're hungry, get the fish and chips, the portion is generous and it comes with waffle chips too. To end the meal we ordered the puffle, it was so yummy and something new. The puff was crispy and still flaky, definitely a must to order! Service was really good, even though it was a busy time, they kept checking on us to make sure we were okay. Overall, this is a great place with great food just some of the mise en place were not on point.

My weekend start with a good brunch. Tried this new cafe in hawthorn and easily got the parking spot near the cafe.
They decor and design the Belgian waffles so prettily! It was love at the first sight & i couldn’t dare to lay my hand on it. The waffle was good and the portion was quite big. Really satisfied with the overall results!L Y fish was pretty good too actually, the fish was perfectly cooked, the skin was crispy, the salad was nice too. I give them 9 out of 10 for their plating presentation!I also ordered a cup of chai latte & coffe to start my good weekend! Turns out the chai latte was really delish!
This place was huge, with a nice ambience on it and kindly staff.

Very busy but not too noisy. Fast and friendly service. Interesting food menu and excellent food. We had Mushroom Savoury French Toast and Pork Belly Eggs Benedict. Didn't mind the pricing for the quality of the food. Only little criticism was that the belly pork was a little dry and over-cooked but didn't really detract from the dish

It is a fairly large and pretty cafe with some really pretty food.
Coffee order- Single origin flat white- loved the coffee. Would recommend.

Slow cooked beans- pretty average and quite pricey. The bread was a bit dry and the beans were fairly usual. Liked the serving size tho. Was very full after.
Soft shell crab burger- friend ordered this and really loved it.
We also got the waffle chips and enjoyed them.
Service- was a bit slow. Staff were lovely but took them ages to take our order.
Overall, it was an extremely average experience.
Loved the attitude of the staff here! The food, and food’s presentation was amazing! Although I enjoyed the flavour of the salad paired with the deep fried fish (which wasn’t too oily), I regretted not getting the pixel avocado, as it is their trademark dish. Overall, I enjoyed my visit, and will be coming back soon!!!

Came here for a Sunday brunch with a group of six. They accept reservations, which was great. I like the interior here, bright, simple and modern. The presentations of food were beautiful. I ordered matcha latte and miso scramble eggs. Loved the matcha latte, not sweet at all and full of matcha flavour yet smooth. The eggs were smooth but I wasn't sure I like the miso flavour that came with it. Also, the deep fried bread was a bit too oily. My husband's pixel avocado looked awesome to me and my friend's chicken rice and his son's muffin looked really yum too.

Really nice place for brunch! Already visited here twice. I’ve tried the zucchini bolognese (zucchini noodles or zoodles with a vegan bolognese sauce) and the soft shell crab burger and both were spot on. The quinoa and broccoli balls are also a great veg take on takoyaki. Will return again!
Light years is a cool cafe - it has a light filled interior and high ceilings with minimalistic decor, creating a really trendy and relaxing vibe. The food was well presented, and it has a somewhat fun menu - using subtle Asian flavours to bring new life to old favourites. The ‘orange’ juice was delicious and refreshing, and the pork belly eggs Benedict was SO amazing. Also had the Breakfast Bun which was delicious. Excited to try more from the menu next time.

Big group gathering here on Sunday afternoon for a birthday brunch. It was great! Catered for all the vegans, vegetarians, lactose free and gluten free requirements in the group. The coffee was good and food better. Creative presentation and large portions. Will definitely be back.
I drove past this place many times without noticing it, until a friend told me about it! The decor is nice and modern, food is delicious and beautifully presented. Service was fine although tended to either check on us too much or not enough. Definitely recommend for a nice brunch/lunch that’s a bit fancier than your usual café if you’re in the area.

We got the miso scrambled eggs and the matcha waffles. The presentation is definitely over the top as you can see in the pictures!!! The waffles had popping candy inside which was a pleasant and fun surprise as I've never had waffles with popping candy hidden in it!

Match Mylkbar etc. Coffee tastes good as well. The fish is very fresh and even fresher than some fish chips shop. The egg is perfect cooked and matched with seaweed salad. Will go back to try others on menu.
Fantastic café discovery in Camberwell/Hawthorn area!! Pretty spacious with modern decor and even more impressive menu!
I ordered the "BBQ duck croquettes" which had 2 croquettes accompanied by greens and a five spice jus.
The croquettes were packed with flavour, crunchy on the outside contrasted with soft succulent duck. Highly recommend this!!
Other dishes we had were the "Miso scrambled eggs", "Chicken cobb salad", "COYO fruit bowl" and "Eggs on toast"
Very impressed and will definitely be back (probably to try the Matcha waffle!!)

Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️- the menu has changed. The soft shell crab burger is no longer on the menu, and the avocado toast looks very different from the zomato cover pic. I found the food to be standard with not a lot of experimentation. If you enjoy standard Australian brunch, this is your place. The cornflake chicken burger looks least pretty but was most delicious. The avocado toast smartly combined feta cheese and pomegranate but I can’t say it was mind blowing. The pork belly eggs ben was delicious. I was still wishful that some of the old favourites (like hammer and tongs soft shell crab burger) would remain in the menu though.

Ambience is industrial with exposed concrete, steel, and ducting which is okay if you like that kind of thing. It is quite cold with the cooler weather and the concrete and steel.
Food looked good but didn't have anything. Prices were reasonable.

I've visited Light Years quite a few times. The coffee is always excellent and service is good. I've tried a few things on the menu and enjoyed most of them, although some items are a little bland. I like that you can always get a table, however, as others have mentioned, it's a little cold inside.
Had a great brunch here on Mother’s Day. Food is beautifully presented and delicious. Fantastic smoothies and good coffee. The ambiance is modern and light. It’s our new favourite.
Surprised to find this gem at Hawthorn East. Great interior design. We have ordered pork belly dish for lunch. It’s okay. I would like to see a really crispy pork belly skin at the other places I tried before. BTW, coffee is good.
