Light Years is a bit of an Instagram hotspot so I was a bit concerned that the food would be very pretty but not so nice to eat. I'm happy to report that the food is pretty good.
Our favourite is the Bircher Muesli which is also available as a $6 takeaway tub to take home. The chicken burger was great with good flavour and generous portion. The Big breakfast was just okay, nothing special and a little oily. We added avocado which I was surprised was literally half of an avocado with no seasoning.
Service was a bit sporadic. There were many staff who seemed quite disorganised and jobs were only partly done before being abandoned. E.g. half of our table was cleared, water jugs were not refilled.
Did you even go to Light Years if you didn’t take a photo?
🍴 Persian fetta potato croquette - eggs poached perfectly. Crunchy potato croquette that was full of flavour. A little bit of kale to make you feel a little healthy. Very delicious meal.
Went there with a group of friends. We all thoroughly enjoyed the food and coffee. I had the smashed avocado. The pistachio butter was so yummy. The servings are quite big for us. Service was really friendly. It's the perfect place to catch up with friends over great coffee and food.
Friendly staff, good atmosphere.
We ordered the bubble waffle and pork belly eggs benedict - Both came out in good time.
Eggs benedict was of a good serving size and had a nice combinations of flavors.
Waffles wasn’t as light as anticipated but it was nicely plated and taste good when combined with the fruits.
Matcha latte and skinny latte was nice and complimented our meals.
The place served way beyond my expectations from food to the ambience, it was just perfect. The Big vegetarian brekky was so satisfying and it did gave me a great start to the busy week ahead. And the chilli scrambled eggs had a great texture with appropriate balance of flavours. Also, we finished off with the cheesecake, not the best but definitely worth a try.
Would definitely visit again to try their brunch.
The coffee was amazing but a bit slow to come out, however it was a long weekend and it was relatively busy.
Super friendly service made up for the slow coffee. The food was great quality and came out relatively quickly, with all dishes at the same time.
The gluten free bread was VERY good.
Would return
Probably closer to 3.5/4. Service is pretty average as you actually don't know where to wait to be seated, and staff aren't attentive enough to manage customer flow. But having said that, they were friendly enough.
Food and coffee however, is good. The food is really well presented, definitely an instagram style cafe, with their pixelated avocado and all. Overall, would return if in the area. The venue is really well designed.

Light years cafe offers creative and beautifully presented dishes! The eggs Benedict is a perfect marriage of flavours and very satisfying. I found the waffles a bit too sweet, with the sugar overpowered many of the other flavours, but always a good treat. Beautiful interior and service is friendly.
Light years serves classy, well presented food and is one of the better cafes around the area.
The beetroot cured salmon salad is a highlight.
The service is friendly and welcoming.
Lovely experience at Light Years this morning!
Had the Bircher, the croquette w poached eggs and bacon and a kids scrambled eggs. Staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Nice single origin coffee and hot chocy was great
The highlight was the Bircher- really delicious flavours and loads of beautiful fruit. The croquette was ambitious but failed to deliver - it was too big and ratios were off.
Nice mid-sized cafe with decent coffee and helpful, friendly staff.
Ambience is industrial with exposed concrete, steel, and ducting which is okay if you like that kind of thing. It is quite cold with the cooler weather and the concrete and steel.
Food looked good but didn't have anything. Prices were reasonable.
Lwe were totally satisfied when we visited @lightyearscafe and enjoyed an amazing Brunch spread..
.
Starting with the interiors and vibe of the place - it was electric and was so good to see people returning to normality.
.
Then out of a good menu spread we picked the following:
• Tropical And Peanut butter chocolate smoothies
• Lightyears Big Breakkie (it is our all time fav)
• Pork belly eggs Benedict (never disappoints)
• Belgian waffle (satisfaction level top notch)
.
We had a great time here and would love to return and try other items on their menu.
.
We would definitely recommend this place.
Beautiful food, great coffee and much, much improved service from my last visit. I'm so glad and I'm excited to visit again.
Got a flatwhite for takeaway.
Good coffee with cute cup were served.
One of the best coffee in Hawthorn!
I've visited Light Years quite a few times. The coffee is always excellent and service is good. I've tried a few things on the menu and enjoyed most of them, although some items are a little bland. I like that you can always get a table, however, as others have mentioned, it's a little cold inside.
Had a great brunch here on Mother’s Day. Food is beautifully presented and delicious. Fantastic smoothies and good coffee. The ambiance is modern and light. It’s our new favourite.
Surprised to find this gem at Hawthorn East. Great interior design. We have ordered pork belly dish for lunch. It’s okay. I would like to see a really crispy pork belly skin at the other places I tried before. BTW, coffee is good.
Great cafe with good food and nice ambiance 😊
