PHO ------ YUM
HERBS- Not enough
I shall be back to try more menu items. I recommend this place if you are nearby
Love this place. It’s not very busy which made me hesitate from walking in but I’ve now been here twice in the same week. Try the duck bao and ask for plum sauce.
Happy to have found a Vietnamese restaurant near Docklands/Southern Cross that makes BBH. It comes with a lot of meat, the spice can be adjusted by adding fresh chilies, however I didn't like that the noodles had broken up into little pieces which made it a bit cumbersome to eat.
I called into Pho N Roll to grab lunch as part of the MealPal program. It’s a funny little cafe that in a bit of an entranceway with mailboxes along one wall. Quite a dark interior dining area but also with tables outside in the sun. My preordered meal included a crispy pork banh mi on a tigerbread roll and three vegetarian dumplings. I had initially been disappointed on the presentation of the banh mi but turns out looks can be deceiving. Instead of fresh vibrant asian greens on top the meat was on top and it was only upon biting in did It reveal the salad. There was a chilli kick and the pork was crispy and tender. The vegetarian dumplings were a little stuck together but very tasty when dipped into a the sauce. I have walked past Pho N Roll many times so glad to have tried as is in a handy location for a crispy pork roll at lunchtime
This is a very interesting vietnamese restaurant. It does Tapas along with their famous Pho. Banh mi and curry is also on the menu, but the Pho takes the prize of all.
Surprisingly better than expected. Order at the counter, so service is kind of limited. Pho is quite nice and a good reminder of authentic Vietnamese cooking.
It's an odd seating arrangement as this little place uses the common area of the PO box business to put their seats.
Was given a menu very quickly and noticed there's only one size for their pho. Ordered the traditional beef pho. Size is decent, some places give a little more noodles. Basils and bean shoots are already in the soup which I guess is to save the hassle of collecting extra dishes.
First impression is the soup is ok, can taste that star arinse and cinnamon are slightly evident. Slightly oily but not terribly bad. Use of fresh noodles and amount of beef is just right. Sweet enough and does have an authentic flavour but certaintly not the very best.
A nice authentic tasting Pho.
One morning I went to order just as they opened and they said the broth wasn't finished yet. I love hearing that. It means it's not a shortcut soup.
Price is in line with what a pho should be.
Dumplings are lovely also.
And they deliver!
The Dear Luncher has been enjoying his salads of late and as a result there has been an improvement in the waist-line. However, after attempting the lemongrass chicken vermicelli salad ($11) here, there was an instant pang of regret in the decision made. On this particular day, The Dear Luncher allowed himself to deviate from his uncharacteristically healthy approach of the past couple of weeks. However, a salad was ordered almost out of habit. Oh how The Dear Luncher wishes he just went for a burger or a burrito instead. The salad was uninspiring. The chicken was bland. Celery is an enemy of the state. What state? The Republic of Lunchistan. The dressing had no bite or zest, the salad and vegetables just weren't doing it for Your Dear Luncher.
The Dear Luncher has attempted several styles of this salad at several Vietnamese eatery's all over Melbourne and sadly this was the most disappointing.
EDIT: Upgraded to a 3.5 after the most recent experience. Big improvement.
Good portions! The pho was a little spicier than expected but still tasty. I did have a few bone pieces with the brisket. Expected something like Bánh Xèo for the duck pancake; their version has a lighter wrapper. Really liked the rice paper roll with the omelet and the sauce that came with it!
A different take on pho. Had the stew beef and brisket, unique blend of flavours. Quick service for a local lunch option.
Space is very limited during lunch hour, so best is avoid those times. Service is wonderful and the taste is pretty good
Hidden gem.
Rich flavour beef and brisket Pho was a welcome surprise given the modest look of the place and the dish itself, while dumplings with pork were fried just the right to be crispy just on the outside.
I went there because other place on the same street was completely full, and I'm very glad about that since I'd never find this place, that's almost hidden and I would've missed it if not for the gMaps.
Definitely worth checking up.
