Their $5 pint of beer deal during happy hour lured us into this American fried chicken franchise. Belles Hot chicken is particularly known for their chicken, but we expected more chicken after paying $20 each for 4 pieces of chicken.
We ordered 2 sets of wings: Medium and Southern. We also ordered their Belle's Chicken Sandwich, and shared some Old Bay Fries and Mac and Cheese.
My favourite was definitely the Belle's Chicken Sandwich. The chicken itself was juicy and succulent despite it being the wing which is full of bone. The 'traveller spice' was definitely a dangerously good seasoning, as well as the creamy flavourful sauce on the sandwich. The bun was buttery but unusually soft, but allowed the crispy chicken to shine, really proving their speciality in chicken.
This leads me to their Chicken Wings. I loved the Southern flavoured wings more than the Medium heat wings. The Southern wings were seasoned nicely and was juicy. The medium hot marinade on the wings tasted just hot and nothing flavourful.
I definitely recommend having Mac & Cheese and their Old Bay Fries to share to complete your fried chicken experience. It was creamy and had the perfect amount of salt and spice. Wish there could have filled the mac and cheese more in the half-full bowl.
The fries were crispy and had a finger-licking good chicken-salt and chilli seasoning.
Great place to have a few good drinks and food with friends or co-workers after a well-earnt day.

Look no further than Belle’s hot chicken for your spicy southern style deep fried chicken fix!
The hot flavoured intensity will turn boys into men. Tears of joy will be steaming down your face but you’ll keep eating through the pain and begging for more!
Oh and the curly fries are delicious too.
Would absolutely come back for their drumsticks, chicken sandwich, mash potato, and mac and cheese. What's stopping me is how pricy it gets.
I love the set up of this store! Think retro diner vibes. The staff here are really friendly as with the fitzroy store. Food and drink were consistent as well. I was disappointed the yam salad wasn’t on the menu as it’s my go to. I opted for slaw instead which was alright. Chicken was juicy and seasoned well as expected. Definitely quieter than the fitzroy store so may be a good choice if you want to have a quieter meal.
Great food and service- very helpful when deciding what to order! Very prompt and hot chicken slider was delicious!!
Cool diner decour with booths, disco light and old school music. Loved the vibes and definitely would come back!
Will come back for:
+ Hot chicken wings
+ Hot drumsticks
+ Coleslaw
+ Mac and cheese
Came here for lunch with a friend, and we shared an order of hot wings and drumsticks. The sizes of the serving was surprisingly big. We ordered the heat at “hot” level, and it was hot. Loved the way they treated the chicken, it was crunchy, spicy but still succulent inside. The sides of coleslaw and Mac and cheese were great accompaniments to go with the spicy chicken. Service was prompt and friendly. Prices were above average but good for what you get. A mouth watering and tingling lunch and certainly one I would come back for!
Belles Hot chicken is very often packed during lunch hour, and so we were very fortunate to have a group of 9 promptly seated. Situated in a busy Elizabeth St, the ambience here is very cool- disco ball flashing, nice music and a generally good vibe and feel, like a diner.
Today I ordered the Cheetos special chicken burger; it was like an ordinary chicken burger but with sprinkles of Cheetos cheese dust. Whilst the Cheetos flavouring added a little to the burger (but not as much), what cannot be disputed is the quality of the chicken here. Tender, juicy, succulent, with a very tasty batter and flavour. The chicken here tastes of good quality and is definitely better than most out there.
Others in our party opted for level 3/5 heat and found it very very hot so tread with caution if you are susceptible to spices- otherwise it was a delicious chicken meal, and well worth the long lines and popularity it has received.

First time at Belle’s. Pretty good feed - the mac and cheese was excellent, the medium chicken tenders pretty juicy and the spice level is good (intense but not overkill). The bbq sauce is an intense sort of flavour too, I think next time I’d get one of the creamier sauces to balance things out. The chips are decent too. Service kind of felt like they were trying to be helpful but came across as a little impatient. I’d come back.
Have heard about this place for ages and I think it deserves more popularity! The chicken is extremely juicy and flavoursome. 2 people shared the $65 bucket deal (which could easily feed 4-6 people). Great service and atmosphere.
All of Belle's hot chicken stores are amazing and this one is no different. I love the American dinner set up and the dj that even bangs out tracks on a Friday night.
Just a word or warning, the really f***ing hot chicken is really, really, really f***ing hot and if you plan on getting a ranch dressing to sooth the heat somewhat, don't as it doesn't work!
We went for a team lunch as a convenient place close to work. Beside a nice and cozy dining area, the staff were so much friendly, helpful and fun. They made every efforts to get the orders right and as in case of one of us not happy with the level of heat her dish had, they happily brought another one with a right level with no extra charge. Fried chickens were so tasety and there is no shortage of spiciness in case you demand it. In summary, one of the best fried chicken restaurants in the town.
This place is the bomb! Great American diner vibes. I’d say you got to try this place for sure if you’re in Melbourne. Got the following:
-Spicy chicken sandwich. Absolutely amazing. Great combination of spice levels with a juicy succulent chicken thigh. Definitely a must try! Rating: 5/5
-Hot chicken and side, original heat. Good balance of heat and meat. However, the sandwich was still the best. Rating: 4/5
Diner style fried chicken and sandwich shop. If you like fried chicken this is your place. Be sure to arrive early as it does get busy.
The service the pleasant and efficient.
My waistline will mean that this place will be an occasional treat rather than a regular lunch spot. Enjoy when you can, NB the pickles are especially sharp, delicious
Belle's fried chicken is the ultimate crispy, juicy and flavoursome combo and is consistently good even after all these years. Quality definitely has not gone downhill despite inflation (not going to lie, was scared my burger was going to have cabbage and not lettuce with current lettuce price!). Their potato and gravy is next level that you'll swear off eating any potato and gravy that isn't Belle's.
Great place with a great atmosphere.
I had the chicken tenders on waffles (which they only do weekend lunch) and it was awesome. Just enough. You have options of spice level... I went with Hot and will definitely be going to Extra Hot next time.
Great service and price as well.
Walked past many times but finally decided to try. I wonder why we have not been there before. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and food just wow. We had tender original and hot chicken and it was just delicious. Nice place to chill either meals and drinks.
An amazing burst of flavours and juicy chicken tenders! I wouldn’t recommend this spice level for everyone, unless you’re really up for the challenge. I personally enjoyed it! Great food and great service!
Incredible flavour packed chicken and sides. Went here with just the expectation of a feed before a night on the town and was blown away with the quality, flavour, juicy chicken tenders and burgers. Chips were well seasoned and the gravy and mash was a welcome side with my Hot Nashville style tenders.
Can not recommend enough to anyone who loves Nashville hot chicken, fried chicken or just good food in general.
Gets a bit messy, and don't forget to use the complimentary hand wipes before you scratch your nose!
The only slight negative is the pickles and ranch share plate had some absolute monster sized pickles, would of been a nicer experience if they were cut a bit smaller or were even battered and fried.
There was a bit of a wait and the staff looked run off their feet, but we're very apologetic and the food came out in a reasonable timeframe.
