Review Lamb On Chapel - Melbourne

Tried the original souvlaki and lots of meat nice and juicy, the sauce and pita bread are also excellent. The bloke serving me was a friendly fella and was honest. The chips are also decent. Next time I’m in prahran I will come back for sure

I came and ordered a lamb kebab. It was Friday night/Saturday early morning and so it was very busy. However it didn’t take long to order, and then get my food. The staff were very friendly, and frequently checked in with me to let me know how long it would take, etc. The only down side I would say is that the kebab didn’t have a whole heap of flavour. However on the whole, the food was pretty good, the meat was tender and juicy.

The HSP was so good! Had the chicken and lamb one but the lamb honestly stole the show - it was soft and broke apart so easily. The sauce also made the dish very delicious.

The owner looked angry when I asked if they do falafels. Lucky I am not vegetarian ha ha.. The Lamb Souvalaki was tasty and generous. The wrap needs to be bigger to hold the filling. I had to open the kebab to be able to eat it.

The lamb here is cooked over charcoal and has an amazing taste. The large open platter is a great feed for 2. The chips here are so good too! Been coming here for years and there have been times that the lamb is hit and miss but today's was exceptionally good.

The holy temple of souvlaki shops, not just in Melbourne but worldwide. I've travelled and eaten countless souvlakia throughout my lifetime. This by far holds down the most consistent quality time and time again. LOC has been feeding me for 20 years now. Not just a late night drunken meal. Can be enjoyed anytime ! The Lamb Original Souvlaki is perfectly crafted. Lamb cooked over the spit on charcoal, the tzatziki with a perfect consistency that allows every bite to be a perfect combination of all the ingredients, all wrapped in arguably the best pita bread to ever be used in a wrap, Sea Star pita. Shout out to the boys putting their blood sweat and tears into the food, your hard work doesnt go unnoticed

Very ordinary souv, one of the worst I had. Disguised is as looking big by adding extra salad, not much meat and the meat was dry and burnt. Zero out of 5 if that was an.option

Pricey, slapdash souvlakis. The guys behind the bar seem like they prefer to be doing something else. Both meat and sauce could do with more seasoning for our liking.

I cannot rave about Lamb on Chapel (LOC) enough.

It was initially recommended to me by a Greek girlfriend after I told her about a shabby experience at another local establishment; she's a real foodie (like all of my Greek friends!) She said 'once you've been to Lamb on Chapel, you'll NEVER eat lamb anywhere else.

She was right! Efkaristo, Panagiota Koukla! (Oh, how I wish I was Greek!)

I have been coming here for my weekly souvlakia 'fix' for years and it's always first-rate.

LOC has been in business for 24 years. The custom made lamb spit is a feature in the window and the aroma can be smelled in Chapel St.

Gregorios, the late father of owner Kon was a regular fixture of LOC until he passed away in early 2020 .

He was a cheeky, lovely octogenarian with a wonderful sense of humour and really made the place feel like home. He is sadly missed,

Owner Kon has a welcoming smile for everyone and is truly proud of his delicious, tender, juicy, beautifully cooked lamb. All of the food choices are great, but I only ever have the lamb.

Because it's the BEST in Melbourne!

This writer has a deep appreciation of Greek cuisine and everything on the menu is freshly prepared daily.

The salads are bright and crisp, the dips are tangy and fresh (try the roasted capsicum... nom nom nom!) And the tzatziki? Divine!

The pita bread is soft and moreish and the cakes are truly wonderful. The galaktoboureko (Greek custard cake) is To Die For, as is the baklava. Fresh, fresh, fresh!

And if you want traditional Greek coffee, this is the place.

As the time of writing, Covid19 means LOC is takeaway only, but please, support this lovely Chapel Street Institution.

It's a tiny, unassuming cafe about a block from Commercial Road, there's plenty of free parking on Chapel Street and it's open late (but call during CV19 for hours if you're unsure).

I love this place.

I love Kon, and all his staff and I really love the food.

Love the lamb souvlaki here. That pita is nice and soft . Food full of flavour.

Been here few times and it’s always the same story.. Undercooked,Overcharged,Grumpy Owner taking your order the way He likes it.. Fat still dripping from my hands off..

bought the mexican and the original lamb. The filling was nice and overflowing( which is good) but the wrapping was paper ( which is bad, because the paper get super soggy, super fast). The food in itself is......okay-ish. The lamb is succulent and juicy but doesn't really have any flavour. The cacophony of overflowing ingridients doesn't help because all the flavour is lost amongst themselves. All this for 15$ each, is not value for money. I would suggest the 10$ wraps at Nicosia on Glenferrie road.

Wow. Had always heard good things about Lamb on Chapel, and finally managed to drop by for lunch one Sunday. As soon as we walked in, our eyes went to the huge skewers of meat cooking over coals.
We ordered the lamb special and chicken special (making one a meal deal to get chips and a drink to share as well). Service was fast and attentive; the gentleman behind the counter was so kind.
Just as we’d heard, the souvlaki was amazing. Even the pita bread was well-toasted and tasty. It was packed full to the brim with delicious, flavourful, perfectly cooked coal-charred meat, fresh vegetables and sauce which brought everything together... my partner and I almost had to roll out of the restaurant.
Can definitely see myself craving this in the future, and coming back regularly!

Enjoyed a lamb souvlaki a few nights ago after a drink.
The lamb was tender and cooked perfectly.
Would love to try their other souvlaki’s.
Passing Chapel Street and craving a souvlaki, I recommend passing by!
Ryan
Probably some of the best quality kebab/souvlaki meat I’ve ever had. Tried the lamb original and the loc special and both were unbelievable.

How have I gone this long without trying souvlaki? I had only heard good things about LOC and after needing a late might snack today was the day. It is by far one of the best souvalakis I have tried the meat being so fresh an absolute highlight. Also served with great chips and fast and efficent service
Dine And Dash
One of my favourite places to grab a souvlaki! It's usually open quite late which is great especially after a night of drinking in Chapel Street. Not much room to sit but not too expensive and the staff are quite friendly too.

The food is super tasty and definitely worth the money.
Marcus
Rating should be a 4.0 at least. Lamb on Chapel still serves delicious souvas cooked over coal. There’s only a couple of places left in Melbourne cooking souvlakis over coal. Oh that delicious smoky meaty goodness. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years - popped in today and loved it. Keep it up guys!

This place has been going on for many many years. I haven't been here for many years and paid a visit recently and again was not disappointed.

Purchased the Lamb soulvalaki and was not disappointed. Beautiful after a big night out drinking. I recommend those who hangout in the Chapel st area to visit this place

Terrible attitude given from staff today, we ordered a HSP and went to sit down at a table, but the old man served us a lamb souvlaki (which i cant hold&eat due to a disability). When we advised him it was not what we ordered, he got quite aggravated and blamed us, saying that it is what we ordered and refused to make a HSP for us stating "what am i gonna do (with the souvlaki) now?? throw it in the bin?".

Now this is where it gets interesting, my mother then asked to get our money back and we would go elsewhere... after stating the aforementioned refusal twice more, the old man grabbed the whole souvlaki off the plate and threw it in the bin right in front of us in a massive anger... THEN proceeded to begin making a HSP for us (even though we clearly were not having any of this, and had furthermore asked him to stop making it & refund us). Whilst he was angrily throwing the chips into the fryer, he was actively ignoring us asking him to stop and for our money back.

it was at this point with my mother in tears, and me getting quite upset (i am non-verbal due to a speech disorder), that a younger male employee came to the register and refunded us, and we left feeling like crap because the rest of the people at the tables were all watching this unfold.

In hindsight, the old man was stupid not to apologize for his mistake, and take the lamb out of the souva, add it to some hot chips w/ cheese and the holy trinity of sauces, and we would have been happy customers, instead we will never be returning again!

Greeting: 0/10... the old man didnt acknowledge us until he fully prepared two souvas and had served them to others.

Chips: 0/10... didnt get to try them.

Meat: 2/10... looked good, smelled good, cooked on the horizontal charcoal, but didnt get to try it.

TL;DR: ordered a HSP, got served a lamb souvlaki, complained...met with anger, hostility, then ignored; never going back!
Prudence
Average experience.. Souvlaki was dripping with oil and fell apart. This was a mini souvlaki. Meat was dry and tomato was far from fresh. Not juicy and succulent at all. Bit of a let down, things are slipping. Order was also incorrect so I would advise that the staff need more training, she was very confused about some of the menu items and could not answer my questions without asking other staff members. Place had unusual smell and needs more fresh air if possible. Had to ask for my beverage more than once. Service was lacking. This joint needs a giddy up in service for me to come back.

Intrique by the high rating on Zomato, we came to Lamb on Chapel on the weekend while strolling and enjoying the nice weather of Spring.
The interior design was pretty modern, quite fancy for a kebab place.
This restaurant has spacious place and plenty seats available inside including the big TV screen, perfect for all the sport lovers to have kebab and watching their favourite team playing on live TV.
Located in Chapel St surroundings by the clubs / bars which makes this place is the perfect destination spot for people to have supper before / after they go to the club on the weekend.
The customer service was alright.

We ordered Souvlaki original (mix: lamb and chicken **not on the menu, you need to ask for it) for $14.00.
It came with tzatziki dip, lettuce, tomato, onion, grilled lamb - chicken.
The Souvlaki was served hot, fresh and the protein was nicely grilled.
Unfortunately, it had too many lettuce compared to the protein inside the Souvlaki - unbalance.

Moreover, the lamb / chicken was lack of seasoning and very oily - greasy.
The taste of chicken / lamb was so so and pretty average;
Personally, it was overprice to spend for this taste and quality.

Overall, Souvlaki was average, definitely not the best we've ever had and didn't find any special on this.
However, the vibe and atmosphere of this was pretty good.

Price: 2.0
Taste: 2.5
Service: 3.0
Speed: 3.0

Yay: open till late
Nay: pricey, average taste

Location: 394 Chapel Street, South Yarra, Melbourne
Phone: 03 9826 2442

OK after driving all over Melbourne to find a feed one of chapel streets best fast food outlets. Souvlaki OMG made faster than you pay. Fresh gyros viewed as its turning produce fresh service excellent and family friendly. If your down chapel this is the place to be. Thanks guys gr8 experience.
George David Michaelides
Once an institution sadly now not up to par with modern times, the meat is so-so here you don't know what you're going to get some times good sometimes too fatty and dry at the same time !!!
A revamp is in order I think
Dean Pahek
One of my favourite places along Chapel street, LOC have made my late night adventures so much more enjoyable. Sit down eat a delicious gyros and wash it down with a beer in the dining area or leave a trail or lettuce and onion down Chapel street to your next watering hole.

Well priced good feed and highly recommend if you're in the area. Extremely keen to hear how LOC weigh up against other places in Melbourne so please comment below.

Thanks LOC

Tastes amazing, staff are beautiful and always hooking me up, congratulations on surviving every friday and saturday night on Chapel St. I know what you legends have to go through ;) Only sad thing is your hours arent listed anywhere so its really a hit or miss in the mean time!!

Good food , service not very nicely , topical family business , it's ok for takeaway. Good food , service not very nicely , topical family business , it's ok for takeaway. Good food , service not very nicely , topical family business , it's ok for takeaway.

Rating is based purely on taste alone as the shop is hardly one that you would wine and dine in, and is more of a takeaway joint. I give them kudos for surviving the nights on Chapel St with a straight face as they must be hounded night-on-end with people off their chops having munchies. Greasy, meaty goodness.
Jean
This place is a bit of an institution for this area of Chapel St and rightfully so for outlasting many venues nearby and still being a go to for clubbers. As a non-clubber, attending and eating at the venue was nice enough, with the food very simple but tasty. Not exactly the most riveting stuff in the world but not a bad place on Chapel either...
Johnny Shabazz
Don't know what the hype is about this joint. Took 'em half an hour to make two lamb and one chicken souvlaki. Then they skimped onthe meat. Seriously over-rated. Primarily it was chunks of fat with lettuce and a bit pricey too. 12.50 for a lamb souva?? C'mon Lambs step it up. Respect for the wood fire though.
Food Lover
The best kebab "souvlaki" I have ever had in Australia.
The lamb is very tender and tasty and the chicken is moist and melting.
I wish I could find like this place in Perth.
Details: the original souvlaki is my go to! I have never been disappointed with lamb on chapel! Been consistently good since I was a little girl until now when I'm getting a souvlaki whilst out bar hopping on chapel 😅❤ Just remember... you WILL BE stanky at the next bar (tzatziki, onion, yum)... so you most likely will not be kissing anyone after this!
Souvlaki 》HSP or Kebab .... no bias because I'm greek I promise 🙈

Interior: Not the nicest looking place but if you are drunk at the time then you really don't notice.

Service: Very quick and very nice staff!
Gerd
This is good. Souvlaki - the Lamb original for $12.50 gives you lamb and tomatoes and lettuce and onion and yoghurt garlic sauce with a squeeze of lemon all rolled into a pita and tightly wrapped. This is good takeaway- and the killer kick is the lamb that's cooked over real coals, fat dripping into the fire, smoke spiralling up kissing the meat with its delicious aroma. Bordering on culinary, slightly oily, smoky erotica. Good for what ails you (especially on the walk home after a pint or two.)
Richard Tom
Honestly the best Souva I've had in a long time, the meat was cooked to perfection, it reminded me what the difference was from a kebab to a souva, definitely going to go back when I get my cravings.

Do: Give the Original Chicken a go, it is honestly that good.

Couldn't take pics of it but, when your eating a souva, it's the taste that matters in that perfectly wrapped bread. 😋

Good work.
Joe
I have only visited this little gem once (I try to only do reviews for places that I have revisited), but it's probably one of the best souvlaki joints that I have ever visited. It's easily dismissed from the main road (looks kinda dodge), but do give it a gander. I went simple with a lamb souvlaki and it was ace. Would go down very well after a few cheeky baileys, you know!?
Tony Kieu
This place is hectic to grab a mean souvlaki but I love it. Gets ridiculously busy on Friday and Saturday night even till late.

But the variety of Souvlaki's they have and the attention to detail and speed they work out is inhuman.

One girl that was serving me was hungover and had her fake eyelashes literally weighing her down but she shouldered on and was entertaining me with banter alongside serving me great and getting my Souvlaki to me.

Absolutely delicious, I usually get the Mediterranean with mustsrd. Instant drunk cure and right next to Chasers.

Easily one of the best souvlali places in Melbourne
Foodies.and.Coe
Terminator dress up came to an end after a 90s 21st and i was not in search for a kebab rather then john connor. I knew of L.O.C close by, i went for the mixed kebab and a large chips. The service was efficient and fresh, i looked down at my juicy kebab and said Asta La Vista Baby and dove in. The kebab was succulent and tasty. The chips were crunchy and cooked well, with some good amount of salt. This is a great kebab in melbourne and i think that..... ill be back.
Vin's Chance
Meat very good!!! Cooked on the wood fire 👍 good place to go when you are hungry. Good sauce but tomatoes and salads could be better. .......!!!!!!:)
Jazs Mix
Meat was nice. But over all probally one of the worst ones i ever had. And the staff were really rude. Would not recommend. We wont be coming back.
JLN
One of my favourite souvlakis in Melbourne. I was introduced to L.O.C in 2009 and have been back on many occasions whenever I am going down Chapel Street. The portion sizes are perfect and very filling.
Justin
The lamb is very tasty and the portions are pretty generous. Would definitely recommend coming here for a souvlaki after a night out, however they don't do a great HSP though. The chips are not that great. :(
Katy
Does anyone know the correct number for Lamb on Chapel. The number on this website is wrong and I'm trying to get hold of them. Food is delicious

Thanks
Hungry-Caterpillar
Octopus salad a winner. Love the dressing - not sure what's in it. Like a vinaigrette. Delicious.
Fresh salad, good price! Will return for it again
Rhi Godwin
This place is the best for a greasy indulgence.

Portions are generous, the lamb is crispy & tender and the pita was soft and fresh. I went for the Original and added feta and chilli. It was perfect.

The place itself doesn't look all that - dips are a bit congealed and restaurant looks dingy but if your after a bloody tasty souvlaki, this is the place.
VP
The most solid souvlaki joint I have been to so far! The servings are great, and the quality is impeccable; however, the service is seriously lacking enthusiasm haha the waitress we had seemed completely disinterested and not willing to be friendly to customers but ehh food was phenomenal so? We had the Lamb Original, the L.O.C Special, and the fries. Personally, the L.O.C Special was the standout with succulent lamb, heaps of feta cheese and tzatziki sauce, and tomatoes and lettuce. It just tasted so greasy and fabulous and I highly recommend it if you're hungover, hungry as hell or just craving a good souv! You'll love it! Oh and one last thing, the chips were soooo good - cooked really really well (perfectly crispy) and seasoned to perfection!!!! I would have provided a photo but we devoured it all before I realised that I wanted a pic :p
Rhys McCarthy
This place is one of my favourite souvlaki joints. The lamb and the Mediterranean are both different but very tasty. My only complaint as with other places is that when it is busy and they are constantly carving the meat, my meat is not crispy.
John
New owners. Terrible quality. Meat of poorest selection. Never again. Chewy fatty lamb. $13.20 for a souvlaki and wanted 50 cents surcharge to pay by card. Total wage of money. Threw it all out. Disgusting quality but good service with a smile
Gdkf
Perhaps one of the best kebabs I have had to date! So generous with their servings, i will keep going back! Words don't really give it justice, I suggest you give this place a try for yourself!
Foodjunkie
Not the best souvlaki I've had. I have to agree with a lot of these reviews I've been reading, chewy meat for sure! The young girl who helped with my order was quite friendly however the big guy taking the orders needs to learn how to crack a smile
Kunal Bangia
Well if you looking for some greasy sinful souvlakis you will love this place, perhaps a drunk hungover meal . The quantity is fairly decent and not at a bad price (slightly expensive) .The meat was juicy however very salty, I could barely finish the fries which were very poorly seasoned, oily but were crispy and fresh. I would like to add the staff was not friendly but hey I guess that’s because they have to deal with drunk hippies everyday. Thank you lamb on chapel.
Evelovelle
Of the various restaurants I've tried that specialise in souvlakis in Melbourne, Lamb on Chapel have the best lamb and chicken souvlakis. The greasy texture and very slight salty flavour make the tender meats stand out. For the several times I've been here I ordered the same thing over and over again.
David Goll
Don't pay attention to the whining bad service reviews!. I've been going to its compatriot Lamb on Malvern for some time. I was amazed at the whinging reviews about "bad service" at LOC. I went there yesterday and nothing could be further from the truth! At all times I found the staff very friendly and well-mannered. I can only assume that the "bad service" reviewers had a bit of a chip on their shoulder, and think they are something above others and demanded service fit for the Queen! The Souv's were fantastic!! As good as LOM!! My only "negative" comment would be, unlike LOM, they do not wrap the take-away Souv's in a plastic bag, but rather a paper bag. As environmentally friendly as this may be, it makes for a dripping experience when the garlic yoghurt speaks through the paper and drips onto your shirt! Seriously thogh, the Souv's are fan-bloody-tastic!! Give them a go, you won't be disappointed!
Melanie_198
Bitchezzzzz. Rudest ladies I have ever met. Didn't even get asked what toppings we wanted. And when they presented us with our $15 piece of bread with fatty meat, old lettuce tomato and onion they acted like we were asking them to chop off their arm when we asked to have some cheese and god forbid maybe an olive. Worst drunken kebab experience EVER.
Power_95
Very average. This place used to be excellent, however seem to be more interested in making money now than good souvlaki, service average to poor.. Building could do with some serious renovations ,as for the prices they are incredibly expensive for what you get . Big shame not nearly as good as they once where probably because they've made way too much money
...
Abiquellish
Hit and miss. This is one of the most variable places I've been to in Melbourne: each visit is different. When the big bloke is serving the food is great: mouth-watering meat that has my former vegetarian girlfriend raving. When the girls are serving everything goes bad. Orders are slow, wrong, and there is odd conversation, like being stuck in an episode of The Twilight Zone. I have to wonder if the girls are 'on something' when they are on shift. My girlfriend and I only go in if the big bloke is working the counter, otherwise we keep walking!
Ashleigh White
Absolutely Beautiful!. Been here a number of times to eat. Their souvlaki is to die for, meat cooked perfectly and delicious tzatziki to compliment it. Don't have any problems driving over 30 mins to enjoy their food!
Mr Mint
The big fellas (owners) are very rude and arrogant when they take your orders, very loud and they eyeball you whilst you are eating... Good food but disgusting attitude
TasteBud
Very tasty food, a real pitty the attitude and poor service behind the counter.
Had a great meal, mixed meat souvlaki only the girl with blue eyes really had a stinking attitude!!
Will come back when they show a little more appreciation.
Christian
Fat guy serving was a douche and the meal was bloody average.
Jepalmav
Worst kebab and service. This place really sucks, the service is so rude, also the kebab was yucky, the quality of the meat, it was just fat, and way too expensive, I paid 12.50 for a basic kebab with lettuce, tomato, and onion!!!! even in sydney there are cheaper places and heaps better....
the girl and the big was were so rude...

seriously i wont ever go back, would rather maccas.
Tortellini
There were only 3 people ordering but it was total chaos. Their ordering system is ridiculous, borderline stupid!! The girl making the souvlakis was extremely rude, arrogant, and patronizing towards her clients...even though it was their flawed ordering system that was causing confusion.
As for the food, the lamb was tough and chewy. I had this awful gritty taste in my mouth and soon realized that they don't even wash the lettuce.
I will NEVER EVER go back there!!!!
Mugsie
Rude staff..chewy meat. Some of the staff are incredibly abrupt and rude. After snapping at my boyfriend because the waitress 'only had two hands', making us wait for a crusty menu with over half the items scratched out and serving chewy lamb, she had the audacity to jump down my throat when I was overcharged adn short changed. She then proceeded to refund me more than I was due - no matter, I'll take it for the crap service I had to endure tonight. Worst. Meal. Ever.
Barley And Hops
Overrated and overpriced. This place is not worth it. There are better places for half the price.
Gorgios
Absolutely spectacular . Service is amazing but the new girl has a bit of attitude .. Never the less the souvlaki there is out of this world and the people that make it ( kon , peter , Andrew etc.) are just the best people to listen and talk to ... The whole restaurant is just full of joy and love .. Been going here for about 9 - 10 years and it just gets better and better every time I go ... Thanks for the great experience boys and will definitely keep going .
Jnard
LOC SMASHES IT OUT OF THE BALLPARK.. Wow, i have been going to LOC since it opened on Chapel st, that's 21 years ago and i will keep going there . Great Souva's , very generous servings, and the staff are friendly & helpful. Have also seen alot of Melbourne Celebrities there. Was lucky enough to get a medallion to this place 20 years ago, and i have spent thousands of dollars in this place over the 20 years on tasty Lamb Souva's cooked on spits with charcoal - not gas. Over all these years i have never had a bad experience there, food has always been fresh, and i would'nt go back if quality meats were not used. People whinge about quailty meat, this place ain 't a cheap western suburbs kebab place, you want quailty its like anything in life- you gotta pay & don't be a tight ass when paying for a decent souva. It's Chapel Street - Open very late Friday & Saturday mornings till 5am for those wanting a feed after a night out, always busy and under the same management for 21 years. LOC staff & Management thank-you for serving the best souva's in Melbourne. NO-ONE COMES CLOSE.LOC ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
Badfred
How you cant like this place?!. Its iconic institution... I love my souva after a big night out!
Satisfood
Delicious! Best souvlaki we've had in melbourne.. Waiter is no fuss and quick great service. Lamb tastes beautiful and they aren't shy with it
Rosie
Way over priced, quality has also gone down.
Sammy
I've been past this place for years and tonight gave it a go. Sorry to say that I should've kept going past it. The meat was the worst quality meat I've ever encountered and I've tried many different souvlakis. I tried to chew but every mouthful was full of gristle and fat. Needless to say I will not be going back again
Sarscha J
Went past LOC many times and decided to try it tonight. Played it safe with 2 x Traditional Lamb Souvalkis. I presonally like more tzatziki - but it was very tasty anyway! Meat was nice and soft!
007xxx
The blonde guy .... Ahh not that good looking unless u semi blind... The tall guy with short black hair now he's good looking... & makes the best souva..., lamb on chapel best souva in Melb if not in australia Any1 knocking them is a spazzz and does not know food
AB
Closest thing to a great Souvlaki I've had in Australia, love it!
Tannie
I have been coming here occasionally since I moved to Melbourne in 1994. It's still always the BEST! I always order small (kid) chicken souvlaki with lettuce, spinach onions, tomatoes, garlic sauce and lemon plus a small fries. Still love it...
Human
Rip off!. After living in Greece for 8 years and recently retuning to Melbourne my wife and I had a craving for a souvlaki. This place was a huge disappointment. The meat was disgusting and of very low quality as was the pita bread and bland salad filling. £31 dollars for two souvs and a small basket of chips. Get real! I would be embarrassed to take my friends from Greece there when they visit Melbourne.
Markus
Have not been there for a while and decided to go on Sat night. Big mistake. This place has really gone downhill . Everything is too much trouble for the staff. They are rude and the cost has skyrocketed. Value for money? No way. Lamb was cold and underdone. Won't catch me back there.
Paceman
Late night favorite. The perfect place for that late night souvlaki. Great friendly owners and an institution on chapel
Jess Liauw
Nice souvlaki. Used to here all the time for a fix after shopping hard on Chapel St. Nice souvlaki!
Tony
Nice souva....
Panda Anne
Ok so there is nothing better than a 3am dirty kebab after a night on the town binge drink but last night was a real let down! I was with my two girlfriends after a night of dancing and workin on our skills when we stumbled into Lambs on Chapel which I expected to be the same quality as the Lambs on Alton and also the Lambs on the corner of Commercial n Chapel which we did head for first but I guess was shut due to it being good Friday. Anyway back to the Kebab ... My housmate n I order a mix Kebab with Chilli sauce an my other friend ordered a Double chicken Kebab. Firstly it was over priced for a kebab with the mixed kebabs being $15 each and my friends double costing her an even $18. Secondarly the seating area had been closed off so our options were to eat it on the side of the road or eat it on the cab ride home. We chose the cab ride. So back to the Kebab it was below average the Chicken tasted like it was very old as it was mushy n dry so as a kebab is based on the meat it was one if the worst Kebabs I've tasted. If you are on Chapel n have a Kebab craving don't come hear try the Lambs on Commercial road which has plenty of seating and the service is friendly.
Bukko Boomeranger
Greasy greatness. Ah Lamb's, the prototypical greasy souva! Great flavour, literally dripping with it, perfect buzzy location for a late-night booze-absorber meal. Sorry to say, Lamb fans, but I always found their meat to have more chunks of unchewable gristle than most other souvlaki joints. Superb grilled taste, though.

I remeber the first time I ate at this Lamb's, when I was new to Australia. I was watching a squad of coppers stepping into the 8 p.m. traffic on Chapel Street, which was barely inching along. They were making bogans in hotted-up cars pull aside, then jacking the drivers around, even though they weren't hooning or anything. I was amazed at what, to an American's eyes, seemed a gross infringement on civil liberties. It was one of those "I don't think we're in Kansas any more" moments that I will always associate with eating a Lamb sanger.

This place has been around for 20 years under same management, providing arguably the best gyros in Melbourne in a world renowned shopping and entertainment strip. I prefer the Aussie gyros and at 2am in the morning, nothing beats it!

Just, no. I've been past Lambs on Chapel more times than I can possibly count, so I figured it was time to give it a go. What a mistake that was.

Nothing wrong with the service, mind you - reasonably quick, no rudeness, just a straightforward no-nonsense kebab production line. I ordered the standard $10 lamb kebab, figuring it was their 'signature' kebab.

Well, it's rare for me to not finish off a kebab, but I couldn't get through this one. Not because of an overly generous serving, but mainly due to the quality of the meat. Gristly, oily, and either over-cooked or under-cooked. I ended up taking out large chunks of it before giving up on the whole thing altogether. Wasn't terribly thrilled with the wrap itself either - warm and soggy.

As I was leaving a group of girls walked in, and one of them said, "This is a Melbourne institution, the best kebabs in town!" Clearly, there really is no accounting for taste in some people.

Food is crap. I went there tonight and first thing the service was very poor and the food was very bad actually it was disgusting , it was cold and the meat wasn't cooked properly. I think they should either improve the way they do things or close shop because in this day and age you expect service and food to be heaps better and they have ompetition but i guess they don't care and after tonight they have lost a customer as well. I wont be going back there ever.

We love the souvlaki and moussaka here.

If you haven't enjoyed lambs at 3 in the morning you haven't lived! Hold the garlic sauce and onions, give me BBQ sauce instead.
