Good, affordable food. Really nice rice paper rolls. Delicious satay sauce & generous serving size. Helpful polite service too. Very casual, worth a visit.

So happy with this find, amazing tasting food, good portions and great value for money. Something to please my partner and I when we didn’t feel like the same cuisine. He had the big brekky and I had the laksa. Decent coffee as well. Service is good. Casual relaxed seating. Just what we needed after a big night.

***UPDATE*** This cafe is now closed for good and will not reopen in 2020. Thank you DJ and Marie for dedicated service you have provided the locals since 1997. Sit back now, relax and best wishes in retirement. DJ at 95 years you've done your bit. Pleasant aussie style breakfast made by Indonesians. Work that out. I've been to this cafe many times and not much changes. Good honest reliable food at a reasonable price.

This has been a favourite of mine (and for so many famous South Yarra residents) for decades. It is still family run and operated. The food is so authentic and delicious. I always go back for the Nasi Goreng as it so filling and delicious. Well worth a visit for breakfast or lunch

Nice food and cozy cafe. Very happy with my vegetarian nasi goreng

Ordered pancakes that took 40 minutes to be ready. Coffee is tasty but not done on a proper temperature you feel like you are drinking frozen water. Would never go again sorry.

This is Sunday morning favorite! Very much a secret spot in South yarra. A family run place, cozy, friendly and cute ! Simple breakfast food made well and tasty, and at a low cost too ! Love love love it !

Great little cafe that serves breakfast and Indonesian food. Had a soto chicken. Super tasty noodle soup with lots of chicken and lots of veges. Will definitely come by again

The best little cafe with the sweetest staff. Hands down the cheapest breakfast around. They also have Indonesian options as well. I got the soto chicken. It was very tasty with lots of veges and chicken. Really satisfied my noodle soup craving. Will definitely be back!

Was pleasantly surprised by this cafe. Whenever I’ve walked past on my way to work it was always fairly busy, and so I decided to pop in and try it out one weekend. It’s a small and pretty plain-looking space, and yet feels cosy. The menu is intriguing in that they offer your typical cafe breakfast options, but also Indonesian/Malaysian dishes. We ordered a flat white and matcha latte to start, and for food the roti chanai with satay sauce, laksa and migoreng. The matcha was pretty decent, while the flat white was not bad. The roti chanai was delicious and well cooked - soft yet crispy, and the sauce complemented it perfectly. The laksa was good; the broth was a decent level of creamy and flavourful, and the noodles were thin rice noodles which was a but of a change as we were used to egg noodles +/- rice noodles. The migoreng would be more accurately named if it were listed as a “stirfry noodle” on the menu; but there was lots of vege and meat, and for the price point it was a good portion so I was satisfied. Service was attentive and good. Can’t go wrong with this place if you’re just after a comfortable cheap breakfast/brunch option.

The presentation and quality of food has definitely improved since the last time I visited. From time to time I have fall back upon the comfort of coconut and kafir lime red chicken curry or Ayam Rujak. Zero guilt feelings and full on taste. The presentation has certainly gone up a notch. The owners are friendly as always and I always leave here with warm feelings and a smiling face. Quality food, at a very very reasonable price.

Great quality, home style, authentic, tasty food and a below average price. Need to add a few more characters, so will definitely go back to sample other dishes.

Very reasonable place in South Yarra. I enjoyed $11 curry laksa. The owner was friendly and work well. I loved their atmospher and felt like to stay longer.

One of the lunch cafes I was always keen to hit but always missed was Krakatoa, which does Asian-styled breakfasts with funky Malaysian and Indonesian twists. It’s closed on a Tuesday as well as after 3pm but it’s a nice change of pace that’s well worth making time for when you’re in South Yarra.

This has got to be the cheapest breakfast in the area! We came here for a change, wanting to try somewhere different for breakfast. To be honest we were actually quite surprised to see that they do 'traditional' western-style breakfast dishes, as the menu appears to be predominantly Asian inspired, but thought "eh, why not?". I almost fell off my chair when I saw how that I could order breakfast for less than $10! I ended up ordering the 'Vegetarian Breakfast' with avocado for $11. It was really good! Just goes to show that it pays to think outside of the box when looking at eat-out breakfast options. Can't wait to try some of the rest of the menu!

Been walking past this place for a year and finally wandered in. So glad I did because I can see this place becoming a regular stop for breakfast and lunch. Casual and homey vibe. Friendly service. Great price point for Toorak Road. When I saw "Coffee in Mug" on the drinks menu I was sold. Home style breakfast (omelet, poached eggs, toast, spinach and mushrooms) was tasty. Will be back to try the Indonesian options soon!

Popped in for the Super Special big breakfast @ $11, can't go wrong! Large in size with sausage, eggs, bacon, toast, mushrooms and a hash brown fantastic value! Fresh juice was also good! Service was exceptional! A hidden gem amongst all the over priced diamonds in the area!

Very good service. I like it how the Asian guy nervously watches you eat his food and drink his coffee to see if you like it. I liked it buddy - and I like you. See you soon. (28/9/15)

Have since been back and let me tell you, never a dull moment at Krakatoa! You know where to find me and my pals on our days off...... Krakatoa. I've witnessed the highs and lows.... Mainly lows, that Krakotoa has endured and watched it flourish and blossom into the young Cafe it has become today. Here's to many more years of thriving success to come! (21/3/16)

This is my local everyday lunch restaurant. I have to say the food is constantly great and tasty. The service is friendly and quick. Good selection of asian dishes with Indonesian specialities. Special attention to the Beef Rendang, it delicious. A hidden gem on Toorak Road.

I have to say I really love this restaurant, and I am very pleased to share some nice pictures I shot in last weekend. I guess you would definitely like them.

Their food make me feel like going back to Indonesia, hometown taste (except the broccoli) and the most important thing is staff and boss are so friendly. You can try their satay though it serve with rice but still yummy..

The good pumpkin soup and porridge which I shall recommend. The pumpkin soup and porridge in the Krakatoa cafe are really impressive to me. I have been to this cafe for several times, and I almost always ordered pumpkin soup and porridge for my breakfast in the past month when I went there.

Cheapest Breakfast in South Yarra. I had forgotten how good this little place is for a quick Breakfast, great food and amazingly cheap, will be making this a regular.

Absolutely love this place! Interior isn't great and "most" staff are pleasant and attentive but the food is lovely (specially breakfasts and asian food). So cheap I refuse to get breakfast anywhere else. Definitely a regular now.

Beautiful Brunch ~. We have been there over 6 times at their busiest time of the weekend. Their food and service are fantastic. We really love it so much. You are able to taste the fresh handmade hash browns and fresh meals as well. The taste is really very unique and yummy, different to normal Asian food. Personally recommended as the best breakfast & lunch place in South Yarra! It takes only a couple of minutes from South Yarra station to get there!

The food was cold. The latte was no good. It was not my favorite cafe any more. What was happening there? Why changed? Never go there again.
Peteryu
Before the coffee was very good, now is the worst, it was very very hot, taste more milk than coffee! What's wrong?
Eat My Shorts
Prices reasonable. Don't exp.... Prices very reasonable. Food is what it is, nothing overly impressive. It does have a pretty good menu, if you like an Asian style brunch.
Fiona
Consistently good food for years. I used to have breakfast at this cafe quite often when I lived around the corner. Even now, when I am in the area I return there for their good hearty breakfasts. The cafe is cosy, and casual and the lovely owner is genuinely friendly. The servings are large, the food is tasty and the price is so reasonable that you keep wanting to go back for more.

Nice little cafe. Very reasonable prices for breakfast. Coffee is pretty good. Outdoor seating is also on offer. No bells and whistles but did the job!

100% rindless bacon! Delicious

Excellent value breakfast & it tastes great! I had the super special which come with bacon, 2 poached eggs, toast, tomato, sausage (which I traded for a hash brown) + you get to pick 2 others, I got avoado and mushrooms. It was all delicious an only $9.90!! I had a freshly squeezed juice too, was $3.80 & a decent size too. Boyfriend got the vege breakast, spinach, eggs, mushrooms, tomato and toast. The hashbrowns are awesome, best I have tasted. Coffee is average. I will be making this place a regular :-)

The best. Simply the healthiest, cheapest, freshest food money can buy. Very homely place. Friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere.

Always Delivers. Best place for a full cooked breakfast! so cheap and the coffee is good and freshly squeezed juice!! Breakfast every morning on my holidays to Melbourne
Pkdesign
It is what it is. So cheap! and the breakfasts are huge, extras only $1 juice is like $3 so very easy to sit there for an hour and only pay $15, staff are all very nice and for a cafe in this area krakatoa is great if your wallet is on the lighter side.
Laura Sellitti
Cool place to come for a relaxed breakfast. Read the paper, have a bowl of muesli. Cheapest in the area and the staff are friendly too
Anna
I've tried the Gado Gado at restaurants all over Melbourne and it never comes close to the one at Krakatoa. The vegetables are always fresh and cooked just right. My partner loves the rice porridge. This cafe has a very loyal following due to the great food at a very reasonable price accompanied by the friendly service. Even now that we no longer live around the corner we still manage to drop by whenever we are in the area.
Defecta
Best value bacon and egg breakfast in the area. And their freshly squeezed OJ is beautiful, even in winter. The vegie breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon FTW!
Woyzeck
Very inhelpful staff, the eggs were stale and so was the bacon. The coffee offered no joy either.

Value but that's it.. Great if you're after a good, cheap, value-for-money breakfast. That's all though.
