No frills just amazing Thai Food!
Thai Deli is run by the husband and wife duo and the serve up amazing stir fried dishes, noodles, tom yum soup and many more. It’s a simple setup with more seating area at the back.
Fuss free decor just amazing food. We had the stir fried noodles, beef salad and the tom yum soup and really enjoyed it. We ordered to share as the portions were good and really enjoyed it.
It is a spot for a quick meal or even take away and there is a good range on the menu. Really enjoyed their pad thai and pad see ew and the tom yum soup was nice.
The beef salad was refreshing and overall we really enjoyed our meal here. The owners are friendly and they prepare the meals fresh when you order.
Thai Deli is not the spiffiest looking place but what it lacks in look, it makes up in delicious, affordable and fuss-free food. Run by a friendly husband and wife team, you’ll be assured down-to-earth and welcoming hospitality here.
All the dishes we ordered shared a common trait – bold flavours that excite your tastebuds. The Seafood Tom Yum was a hearty and tasty dish, showcasing a mix of sweet, savoury, sour and spicy. The Beef Salad was slightly on the sweeter side, but the abundance of fresh greens helped balance it out. The Chicken Pad Thai and Beef Pad See Ew both were characterised by aromatic and piquant flavours, and executed really well.
While not completely authentic, you can’t deny that the dishes here are tasty and when the food is delicious, sometimes it’s all that matters.
Had the chance to visit this little local restaurant in South Melbourne. The restaurant is family owned and run by a Thai chef and her husband.
The food here was really good, and with really generous portions for the price as well. We ordered the Chicken Padthai, which was very delicious, especially with extra crushed peanuts and chili flakes. Also loved the Beef Pad See Ew, very flavorful and tasty flavors. The Beef Salad was really yummy since the sauce had a harmonious blend of sweet, savory, and sour, enhancing the dish as a whole. Lastly the Seafood Tom Yum. The flavors of the broth were strong towards salty and sour, and doesn't taste like the typical Tom Yum you get. There's even pumpkin in there too, in which I have never seen elsewhere before.
Since I'm Thai, I know what these dishes are supposed to taste like back home. The Tom Yum and Beef Salad did not taste authentic. But, as long as it tasted good and delicious, authenticity is not the problem for me.
Would definitely love to go back here for another easy meal here.
A cosy little gem that serves up delicious Thai stuff. Tom Yum, Pad Thai, Thai Beef Salad - all very yummy. The service is excellent too. Friendly, warm and always courteous.
I eat here at least once a week and they make authentic Thai food. Family owned eatery, everyone is so sweet. The only dish I wouldn't recommend is the squid.
Best pad thai ever with roasted peanuts!! Yummy !! + Probably even cheaper than home cook + L
ovely family owned business - Does not say from outside but highly recomended as a local gem
Deciding to a short trip to Thailand, but first I went to a Thai restaurant to try out the cuisine and is full of flavour and rice. Great food to have, don't usually eat Thai food. May actually go Thailand next year.
Come here every couple weeks. Friendly staff. Great Thai food and cheap. Love their pad Thai and pad siew. It's a shame the don't open Sundays
I really like this place and think that it's the best Pad Thai place ever! Staff is very nice and friendly couple. The price is really reasonable. The portions are big and tasty.
The food here is good though some of dishes were just simply too sour for my tongue. If you dislike sour dish, make sure you ask the chef which one of them were sour aa you cannot tell!! Been here several times, and the best dish that I have ever had here was the one I just had, red curry. The sauce was awesome though the beef was almost overcooked. Last but not least, this place is quite a humble restaurant, as in no air con. So if you come in, in a 40 degrees day, good luck :)
For one of my final work lunches in South Melbourne I crossed the road for Thai Deli. This is one of the area’s staple Thai cafes, churning out delicious and speedy authentic meals in a relaxed and entirely non-pretentious setting. I ordered the sticky rice noodle with chicken ($11.90) dry style, also known as the Pad Siew. This is one of many options that reflect the great value at Thai Deli and it was a moreish and flavourful plate.

Thai Deli is certainly enjoyable, very affordable and – I estimate – at least a little better than your average suburban Thai offerings. Lamb salad has heaps of good, fresh greens and other veg bits. Beef panang curry is also really good.
Had our quick lunch at this little restaurant at Clarendon St in South Melb. We ordered the Pad Thai seafood for $13.90- a big portion with 3 prawns, 3 pieces of fried fish, calamari, crab sticks and lots of bean sprouts. Taste is pretty good and worth it for the price. The lunch special is $12.90 for a rice dish with a can of drink/water. The place is run by a family of Thai people and rather polite too.
Simple Thai place, popular with the lunch clientele. Very friendly owner and meals are whipped up in a jiffy.
There's a quite dining area in the back with some soothing art pieces on display, to which you can process your thoughts over.

I had this place recommended to me so was keen to check it out. Food came out really quickly, service was outstanding, the pad Thai was massive and you'd really struggle to beat it for $12 or so. Top notch. Would def go back.
Great food.. tastes very fresh too.. good value for money.. love the fried rice.. i usually visit atleast once a week (for lunch)... The quality /service is always the same and has the feel of a home business (which it most definitely is).
Absolute gem in South Melbourne. I've been here many times and every meal I've had has been fantastic. Lovely welcoming couple who run the restaurant provide fantastic service. A++
Great tasting, reasonably priced takeaway easy Thursday night dinner served up by a lovely couple! Tom yum soup noodles and chicken pad Thai were delicious.. Just remember, it's cashola only!
My favourite Asian food place.
Nothing but the best meals.
My work place organises work lunches with Thai deli and everyone loves it.
Red duck curry, my absolute favourite.
Small joint with surprisingly good food. Didn't think it would be good given the fast food style pizza type setup. Looks can be deceiving! Friendly service, very nice…
I like my food pretty freaking sizzling hot, so I always get 'Extra Spicy' here and the owner recently told me that most people ordered spicy here that he goes through a 1 kg bag of extra spicy chilli flakes every week.
Most Thai food in Melbourne is too sweet for my palate, the Thai food served here is more savoury than sweet. One day I'll try every item in the menu (I tend to go with the Thai dishes than Chinese).
The freshest Singapore noodles around! Don't be put off by the cheap and cheerful fit out - this friendly team serve up fresh and flavourful food. Perfect quick lunch or takeaway dinner.
Thai Deli doesn't put on any pretence and offers fantastic value for the quality.
Cheap n cheerful Thai. Cheap n cheerful sums it up - a little Thai cafe with all of the usuals on the menu. Caters mainly for a take-away crowd but has a few tables to sit-in. My pad thai was very good - lots of good wok char flavour and not too sweet. I thought my companion's chicken green curry was good but he wasn't impressed. To be fair I was judging on the quality of the sauce which was very well balanced, he was judging on the amount of chicken in the dish (not much at all). Around $10 for a meal - if I'm walking past, I'd go back.
Like street food, only from a resto. I don't know why they use "deli" in the name, because this is just your basic neighbourhood ethnic joint. It's nothing fancy, almost like a street food stall, only it operates out of a narrow restaurant space. The owners are smily-friendly and you can watch the wife fry up your stuff right behind the counter so you know it’s fresh. I had 5-spice ginger pork, which did not feature much flavour of the nominated spices. There was some good wok hai to it all. For $10.90 as a takeaway item, it was filling and fast. If you're in South Melbourne and want a quick, cheap takeaway -- not much space or atmosphere for sit-down -- Thai Deli's OK. If you're after a more memorable experience, there are lots of better places on Clarendon.
The best thai food ever!. I go here at least once a week and the food is consistently amazing. If it wasn't for their laksa chicken curry, I would probably starve during the work week. Service and portion sizes are great.
Singapore Noodles!. I now its a little strange but they do the THE best Singapore noodles! It's like nothing else! SO GOOD!
This is my favorite local Thai take away shop. The couple who run it are very nice and cook up great meals. The absolute best value in south melb. Don't be put off by the look of the shop, the food is fantastic.
Fantastic thai food. Saw the reviews and found this place. The food reminded me of authentic thai food and the flavours are amazing. Would definitely return!
Very Good Food. There's a lot of average Thai restaurants in Melbourne. This is most definitely not one of them. Without gimmick or pretension, Thai Deli consistently delivers incredibly tasty food.
Other reviews singing the praises of this little gem are right on the money.
Best Thai food in Melbourne. I lived in Melbourne for 5 years and worked in South Melbourne for four of those. Thai Deli was at least a weekly indulgence if not twice a week. The food is fantastic, so very tasty, so fresh. Beautiful chilli basil chicken/beef. Nice and spicy! Scrumptious satay chicken/beef, the way a satay dish should taste, thick peanut sauce. If you are in South Melbourne, make sure you visit James and his wife. Very friendly, lovely people.
Awesome!. A++ recommend to all. The perfect mix of coconut, chilli and all things thai. Great friendly and homely environment.
Yummy Thai. The husband and wife are such sweet cooks. Delicious food. What a find.
Absolutely beautiful. Very tasty lovely spiced food and delightful people. Don't walk past without giving it a try
Just brilliant fresh Thai food!! Amazing price and the quality and flavours are 5 star, yum!
Great food!. Came here for dinner last night with some friends and it was great! The owners are very friendly. We had to wait a little while for a food as it got quite busy but no complaints here. Great value for money. We ordered the Pad See Ew, Beef Salad and Salt and Pepper squid. All three were delicious and I will definately be coming back in the future.
The owner is amaizing, the food are the best, I have been a loyal customer for 6 years!
Loyal customers. We are regulars here for about 5 years and the service and food are top notch! Fresh and tasty. Our favourites are: Chilli basil chicken, Massaman curry, grilled chicken salad, Pad See Ew (flat noodles) and thai fish cakes :) Thank me later
Best Thai food at Clarendon!. The only best place to eat at Clarendon Street. Very authentic Thai food, we will come back for more and often!!
Cheap and nice!. Except there is no water.
pad thai and green curry were yummy!
reasonable price and the boss was kind.

Singapore Noodles with Pork and an extra slice of lemon, cheap, large qty, best in Melbourne! Can't go wrong:)
Hands down, the most amazing Thai I have had in Melbourne.. Run by two of the most endearing and eager characters around, Thai Deli is the tastiest stuff you'll find. Amazing service from the couple, quick turnaround, and more than generous serve sizes.
Try the salt & pepper squid, you will not find better anywhere, and also the thai beef salad.
I just wish I was still working in South Melbourne still.
My FAV. Thai place. What's not to like?
The price... Awesome
The menu... simple and delish
The couple... Super friendly
Ultimate favourite has to be the Beef salad!!!!
It's the best cheap eat in town for sure~!
Great Food!. Ma and pa's operation with great thai food! Substantial portion for the price and a great selection of authentic Thai.
The curries are creamier than most other Thai places, Massaman curry is a particular favorite. Pad thai is not overly sweet here, great for the savoury tongue.
If you fancy some thing refreshing for the summer, try the thai salad.
Thai Deli is consistant, quick and friendly. Everything is great here. The best place to satisfy a craving.
Cheap and tasty!. I've been there twice, the first time I got a vegetarian green curry which was a little lackluster, but I gave it a second chance. Went back and got two 'lunch specials' (at like 8pm, haha), brought them back to the boyfriend for 'breakfast' in bed, very very good. We got chilli beef and red chicken curry, both fresh and delicious, especially for how cheap they were.
I recommend.
Red Duck Curry never fails to please 'round here
Decent Food Decent Price. Despite its appearance as a quick takeaway joint, their food is quite decent, not perfect, decent. Massaman curry is sweet and savory and strangely, a bit too spicy. A great place for lunch or a quick relaxing bite to eat after work.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhjhhhhhjjjjj ... sorry, just going through a fat chilli hit. A friken big one. The biggest I've had since Thailand. This place gets my full voting power, and I own another restaurant in the area.
Brilliant. Super cheap, friendly, best pad thai in Melbourne, LOVE this place.
This place is great. The servings are plentiful & delicious. Pad thai is enough for 2 people & the curries never leave you hungry. Highly rec the red/panang curries! Owners always happy to accommodate ingredients on request. We are weekly visitors.
This place is a ripper. Bloody awesome food at real Thai prices! Eat here = your happy and full.
Yummy honest thai food. Well priced for the area. The owner is very pleasant and we now go here on a fortnightly basis!
Absolutely sensational Thai tonight! I have a seafood allergy and they made sure everything was perfect and labelled no seafood. Such a relief!
We ordered the crispy tofu - it was delicious, as were the spring rolls and chicken pad see ew was absolutely amazing. So fresh, so much flavour and the chicken fried rice was so good.
A little on the $$$ side of Thai but it was worth every cent.
Just wonderful, intimate setting, astonishing food. Best Pad Thai I've had in Victoria! Massaman beef is deliciously soft. Excellent food all round. We will most definitely be back.
One of the best thai food in the area. The staff was so organised to prepare all the meals. Extremely polite people. The food cooked with love for sure.
I can recommend it to a friend.
A hidden gem!
I walked in thinking just another Thai takeaway and walked out a happy man with tummy full of amazing food.
The flavours are on point and excellent portion size. Got 5 prawns on the second pad Thai
Good value, great staff & excellent prices.
Gonna be my new regular shop
The food here is really good and authentic. The ginger chicken dish was so tender and full of flavour. The service is so friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back :)
Such good thai food! Drunken mans noodle was so good, im definitely coming back
Delicious Thai food here in South Melbourne! Very local and my favourite was the Khao Soi! Would recommend anyone who is in the area to stop by and get a bite. There is also some Northern Thai influences.
