Review Jang Gun - Melbourne

Fyona Endy
This is the place to go if you’re ever craving authentic Korean food late at night! I’ve been here a couple of times now. I love the kimchi pancake from here! I think it’s one of the best ones I’ve tried in Melbourne. Also for the yukgaejang, the amount of beef inside was so much, it was shared between 2 people. And even then, we couldn’t finish the meat! Other dishes are pretty good as well, very hearty & I always leave feeling super full and satisfied.

Finally I found another place that made good, super spicy, korean style chicken feet. The place does get busy at night and while we were waiting for our food, there's non stop stream of food delivery people picking up orders. Good sign of good food.

I have been to this restaurant quite a few times in the past but only get to do some reviews now. Food is good, generous portion as we can't finish it all. We might have over-ordered as well. This time round, I found the food is a little bit on a sweet side. I did enjoy it most of it though. However, kimji soup came in a big pot and pork was cut in a big chunk, hence, very tough to chew. I literally can't chew it. Maybe better slice it thin so you don't have to cook it too long to get it tender. It wasn't pleasant to eat the pork thay chewy. Seafood pancake is ok but not that great. I still haven't found a great pancake in Japanese or korean restaurants yet. Space is a bit crowded but understandable. We barely have enough space on the table for all our food. Service was average, not overly friendly. The waiter did inform us that 2 protions of rice come with what we already ordered when he saw us ordering 2 extra rice which is attention to details. If you're looking to have Korean food in the city, this place is one to go for.

17. Fire Korean chicken. Hot!, flavour was nice but was super saucy, will ask for less sauce or for it to be put on the side next time. Waited 20min longer then we were told, not sure if dine in has preference over takeaway orders? Over all it was a good experience. Little expensive, I thought.

10/10 for me. The kimchi stew was so good. The sweet and sour fried chicken was crispy and well seasoned. Definitely coming back to try out the other dishes.

good value for money all my order is quite yummy and under $20. recommended seafood tofu soup to ppl who loves strong taste free side dishes taste normal the only thing lil annoying is our seats are too close to the door staff come though often (show on photo) pay by cash can get 5% off
Sonia
Chicken and chicken feet are definitely nice! Yes, heading back there again for chicken and chicken feet. However, others are a bit too saucy. Still averagely nice, thanks to chicken, I'm coming back there for chicken.

This place is usually packed at dinner time. Order soy garlic fried chicken, kimchi soup and cheese chicken bulgogi. The flavor of the fried chicken is different now compare to what they served 1 year ago, it's bit spicy now which I like. Highly recommend!

I ordered some takeaway due to the corona pandemic and i was blown away at the flavors of the food

Super fast and attentive service, 5 stars for pancake, fried chicken and home-made beverage. Definitely gonna come back after the quarantine.

4.5

The famous Korean eatery.

Been here a few times, once two years ago and twice recently.

Basically, the place isn’t big but there are usually lines and it took a while to get a table unless it’s really late/early or if you don’t mind sitting outside.

Food here’s great, like probably one of the best in overall food, especially their beef bulgogi and LA Galbi. Classic flavours, meat was tender and juicy, great portion. Both their kimchi and seafood pancake were great, chewy but crispy with the right thickness. Egg roll was yummy, good size with a good amount of cheese.

Their fried chicken however wasn’t the best, as it was bit dry. Side dishes were kimchi, macaronis and beansprout, all quite nice.
Price was definitely reasonable too.

Overall, it’s famous for a reason, so it’s definitely worth a try.

( follow for more!✨)

xx,joelle.
Sunny Days Melbourne
Craving some good old Korean fried chicken, I came by this place with a friend for a quick fix.

The interior of the restaurant was nice and simple. We had the soy garlic fried chicken and the kimchi pancake. They were quite generous with the side dishes. The kimchi was lovely.

I really enjoyed the fried chicken. The crispy coating was not too thick and the sauce was to die for. The surprisingly spicy kimchi pancake was a tad too doughy but it was still a treat.

I would definitely return just for the fried chicken!

Never let me down. Great place for "after dinner" dinner. Good place for chicken and soju to wind down. Great crowd and super friendly service

Best corn and cheese!
Eat Good Melbourne
As soon as you walk in to Jang Gun, you’re surrounded by the delicious aromas of stir fries, stews and fried chicken. We ended up over ordering but I wanted to eat everything! We ordered the spicy pork bulgogi, la ribs, Kim chi pancake, seafood stew and jap chae. Everything was so tasty but the stand out dish was the ribs. So much flavour and easy to eat. I recommend coming in a larger group to try more dishes.

One of my favourite Korean restaurants in Melbourne - generally go with a group so we've had quite a bit from the menu. The Hot Plates (spicy chicken and cheese and squid/pork belly) were simply fantastic!
Sense Of Food
Such delicious Korean foods. We wanted to order so much more since everything looked so good. Definitely loved the hot pan chicken and veggies with cheese. There was so much gochujang, so yum!
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: This place is honestly my favourite Korean restaurant in Melbourne! I’ve been here more than 10 times and it is consistent everytime. It’s gotten a lot more popular so the line for a seat
is much longer

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I love the seafood rice cakes also known as Tteokbokki - it is a large portion and literally feed more than two. I always add ramen or cheese or both to it. The fried chicken is also very juicy and tender.
I love the spicy chicken from here too - always a pleasure.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: the wait is very long and they should have a better system than to call out our names given we had to wait almost half an hour at 9.30pm

🥇Lizzie rates overall: A great place for a Korean feast. The food is impeccable!
Tim
I don't know why this place has high rate. I've ordered seafood pancake and chicken, ribs, spicy pork. The seafood pancake was the worst in my experience. It was under cook and tasteless. Ribs was really tough to chew too. I visited because it seems so busy but disappointed. If you want decent korean dinner, do not take your family.

The cosy korean eatery on Healeys Lane!
They are popular for korean stews and fried chicken. We had the fried chicken and jap chae and really liked it. Might be best to go in early as they can get quite busy

Came here for a mid-week early dinner as walk-ins. It's practically next door to either one or two other Korean restaurants, yet we choose this one has it was practically full which is usually a sign of good food. We ordered the corn cheese, egg roll and soy garlic half chicken. Every dish was packed full of flavour and is pretty authentic.
The World’s My Oyster
Came here on a weeknight and it was packed. They have a system for people waiting which is good but you have to remember to walk inside to write your name on the list and not just stand in line or outside as the waiter goes off the list to assign tables. The spicy chicken with cheese was tasty but the other dishes we got with the stir fried chicken giblets was average. The giblets were quite tough and hard to chew. Saw a lot of people order the Army Stew so that might be the dish to get! We found the dishes were around $20 each which is not cheap. Might give it another go if we get the chance.

We loved 😍
This is one of my favourite Korean places in the city. The japchae is extra saucy just how I like it and the kimchi pancake is nice and crispy.
The serving sizes here a very generous!
Hello. Imnikki
What sort of sorcery does Jang Gun practice? All the other restaurants in its vicinity were either empty or a quarter full, but Jang Gun had a queue out the door. On top of this, it was cold and wet. If it wasn't for my friend who arrived early, I don't think I would have braved the weather and joined the queue.

Heading in, you do feel a bit cramped but it's cosy in a no frills kind of way. We were surprised by how fast the food arrived, which was great as we were starving.

The corn cheese is the star of the meal. The cheesiest and gooiest thing ever, and seasoned just right. The corn kernels were sweet and juicy, and it was a simple but flawless dish.

The fried chicken were tender and moist, with a crispy batter. My friend found the soy garlic sauce a tad salty, but I was fine with it. I just found that if fell a bit flat, and didn't really excite my taste buds.

The army stew was quite flavourful but I think we should have went for spicy and not mild as it was missing a certain kick to it. Regardless, the copious amount of spam and sausages hit the spot, and that broth was perfect for the cold weather.

I can see the appeal of Jang Gun, with its generous portion size and prompt service. The pancakes seemed to be a popular dish here, so I'll have to return for that.
Josie
This place is actually so much fun! With some music playing through the place and and the hyped up crowd there. The food is really yummy and such a great late night feed.
The Superscript Diner
There is a genius “waiting list” here where you must write your name down (and the number of people in your group) while waiting for your table to be called out which I found very smart! I waited 20 minutes for a table for two on a Saturday night at 8pm, and I noticed that it quite down from 9pm onwards.

I enjoyed the ambiance as much as the food. There were plenty of seats available, and partitions between tables enabled privacy for large groups. The staffs are very casual and chill, and quick to take your order.

The highlight dish was the kimchi pancake, for it was very crunchy and soft in the center; the portion was quite generous too. In fact, the stew (which I’m sure many people come here to try) is super generous with the serving size that my friend and I could not finish it; we did, however, ordered two extra ramens (on top of the one already provided) so that probably contributed to our fullness in some degree. The spiciness level was mild, which resulted in a weak—almost bland—stew, so I would definitely recommend ordering spicy for the much needed extra flavour. The spicy chicken feet was another favourite of mine, for the flavour seemed to have penetrated all the way into the skin and meat, resulting in a delightful burst of flavour.
TXY
Huge portion and value for money for a group of 4-5. We ordered chicken feet, cheesy chicken and kimchi soup. I highly recommend kimchi soup!
Eating Sushi
Food (9/10): Amazing and tasty food with generous servings including the complimentary sides. Would recommend only one dish per person otherwise it’ll be too much food!
*Galbi (10/10): soft and tender meat which are well seasoned and marinated and served on a hot plate. Honestly the best galbi I’ve tasted! Will definitely be returning for this dish alone.
*Pork tofu soup (9/10): I found the consistency of the soup to be much thicker and much oilier than other Korean soups I’ve tasted before. Nevertheless, it was still delicious with the right amount of spice.
*Soy garlic fried chicken (7/10): the meat is strangely soft for fried chicken. Would prefer for it to have more of a bite to it. The coating is crispy but there’s just way too much sauce making the chicken way too sweet. Maybe the chicken did not pair well with the other dishes we ordered.

Ambience (7/10): small and cramped. Constantly busy so you might have to wait for a table especially during the late hours when everywhere else has closed

This place is honestly one of the best korean restaurant in Melbourne so far.
We’ve been here a few time and had great experiences!!!
The first time we came, we ordered soy garlic chicken. Very nice with a perfect crispy skin outside. The sauce was a little bit too sweet for us thought.
Tobokki was amazing!!! It is a must try. Not too spicy as we choose mild. The taste is just... so goodddd. Highly recommend.
All came in a huge size. 2 dishes can fully fill 2-3 people. Will definitelt come back.
Hao
popular place with long queue at dinner time so getting there before 6pm will get you a seat quickly. Friedly staff but the dishes will take some time. We had 3 dishes for $50 without drinks, Overall authentic Korean style while everything tends to be sweet flavour.
Pork kimchi soup and beef bulgogi was flavoursome, both pork and beef were well cooked and tender. Fried chicken was nice but the soy honey sauce made the skin very sweet.

My top 3 option for late supper. Always lined up on weekends. But worthy. Love korea food. All is nice . Soju are taste good. Cheese egg roll are the fave

Ordered their budae jiggae. Really hearty soup with huge portions. Great for a winter's day- just yum! Service was a bit rushed but as expected of such a busy joint.

Many of my friends suggested me to try this Korean place, since I am a fan of another. Long waiting queue, food was good but what annoyed me was that I was being skipped on waiting list reason. Even though there were multiple unoccupied tables (clearly visible), no one from staff bothered to get us seated until I went in and showed the waiting list to a staff member. Well anywho after 30 or so minutes of wait, after my own effort, we were seated and had to wait less for food. Food was good but nothing spectacular as I was being told. Options were limited, serve size is decent which is justified by the price charged.

This open till very late Korean eatery is just awesome for some late night hangout. What’s better than having some great food with your great people and not worrying that the restaurant is closing so soon
Zhilin Luo
Favorite Korean restaurant in Melbourne, the serving was quite big and took away large amount of our food home. Love the kimchi pancake and japchai, and sausage stew.
Zachary Teh
Food was so good, especially the War Stew and Fried Chicken! The staff was good and food also comes out pretty quick. Will definitely go again! Highly recommend going if you're looking for good Korean cuisine in the city - opens till late as well!

This place is hidden in one of the alleyway full of Korean restaurant.

Their beef stew is probably one of the best ones I’ve tried. And the eggroll was good and freshly made. However, the kitchen forgot our order and we had to wait for 45 mins. To compensate, they gave us two free drinks.

NB. This place can get so packed and have to line up.

Awesome place in Melbourne's K-town. Their servings are very generous and super delicious.

Go to's are:
Beef bulgogi
Corn and cheese
Korean Fried Chicken
Chicken Gibblets

Only thing is that they're super busy so you might have to wait at times - only cause they're so popular!

I CANNOT RAVE ABOUT THEIR TTEOKBOKKI ENOUGH TO MY FRIENDS SO I’M GONNA RAVE IT TO THE WORLD (the zomato world)

Can I just start off by saying, it was the BEST tteokbokki I have ever eaten in my entire life!

Jang Gun was recommended to me by a friend and I definitely do not regret it 🌞

FOOD: The Tteokbokki was spectacular. It’s worth it is what is mainly on my mind. From the flavour to value, I cannot recommend this dish enough. It was filled with seafood and the cheese was abundant! The sauce was incredible and not overwhelmingly spicy while the tteokbokki was cooked to perfection! I know it’s easy to make however, the sauce at Jang Gun... it was something else. Also, the side dishes was a large serving, tbh you could get full from it alone HAHAHAHA

Service: Quick and isn’t the most friendly but what do you expect 🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s super famous so it’s pretty quick and go

They are popular for a reason and I think for that, they deserve the 5 stars. Order the tteokbokki x1928372. I promise you, you won’t regret it
Boey Chong
Came here for the army stew as the army stew in another place is kinda pricey.
Army stew: the taste is a bit plain, but it is still worth the price
Cheese buldak: the cheese tastes great, but eating the chicken alone without the cheese has some taste like Chinese traditional medicine/herb 😵
Would come here again and try another food like egg roll, pancake and fried chicken
Eatwithbonny
My go to korean restaurant for supper. Great place to drink with friends.

I love their gyerran jim (steamed egg). It has seafoods and veggies inside which differentiate theirs with others. Egg rolls is awesome as well. Love love their chicken giblets, good pairs for beers.

Will I be back? Yes!

3.5

Very good value! It opens till late so it’s our top choice for dine after midnight..

We love the pot, it won’t go wrong.. food are on the bigger portion side..

But in some rare cases food could be a bit over cooked.. which is still acceptable.
Samantha Knott
Open very late (until 3am) which appeals to the younger crowd. Try the chicken with cheese- I get it hot. This place gets busy so arrive before 7 or after 10.
Makan2Melbourne
One of the most popular korean restaurants. Always full of customers, definitely recommend booking in advance. Ordered their famous budae jigae. The portion was huge. It came with two servings of rice, which actually enough to be four. The soup was flavourful, and a bit spicy, depending on what level you choose. The filling was generous. It was enough for 3-4 people to eat. The fried chicken had crispy skin. The sauce was flavourful. The portion was also huge. We could not finish the whole thing. Definitely would come back to try their other dishes.
Juanlin
Fantastic vibes and food. The chicken was crisp as. Overall good service and nice atmosphere to cater for a large group. The kimchi pancake was great as well.
Lunarcry
Got a takeaway budae jjigae after a long evening out. The restaurant opens till late. Portions were extremely generous. Good value for money.

I’ve been here twice! I love the fact that they still opened at like 3am? That’s amazing! Ordered a jug of carlton and some corn cheese. Not the best meal but it’s very satisfying. They have side dish and we can ask for refill. It’s ridiculously cheap and staffs were very friendly that night. Don’t come here for food or authentic Korean cuisine because you won’t get that. Come for snacks and a chat over alcohol.
Cookielessvee
Well ventilated korean joint with a variety of dishes to pick from. Large servings and staff are friendly. Slightly cramped.

The sides were quite filling whilst we waited for the food to come out.

We ordered the kimichi pancake which wasn't very spicy but was compact, soft with a slight crispy outer.

The fried chicken was great. Took a while to come out but worth the wait. Drenched in soy garlic and also sweet chilli, the great thing was the batter was extremely crispy till the end even with all the sauce.
Sam Hii
Kimchi pancake killed it! Highly recommended spot. Prices were reasonable, very friendly customer service. Will definitely be on my go-to-list whenever I have a crave for Korean cuisine.
HildaLuv2Eat
My to-go place for late night dinner, always full house even its 10pm! From appetizer, soup, hot pot, fried chicken to hot plate dishes, a wide choices of korean food, importantly they are so delicious! Tried their spicy beef soup, a lot of ingredients in it and perfect to keep body warm. The marinated chicken with cheese on top looked tempting and I cannot stop devouring the whole plate because the hot sauce was savory!

So, I was craving for korean foods and discovered this place which was located near little londsdale street (which has plenty of korean restaurants). This place was pretty affordable imho. The bbudae jjigae was cheaper compared to most korean restaurants, but it's delicious. My favorite restaurant from this place is tteok-bokki. You can choose mild or spicy (I chose mild) and it also has seafood inside which is very tasty.
This place is very crowded during dinner time. So, it is recommended to come before dinner time like around 5:30 PM.

After a friend's recital we all went out to have a late dinner. It was my first time and all I can say is that I have absolutely missed out this whole time! Jang Gun has definitely is part of my favourites now, especially when you get what you paid for in terms of portions served. I really like with almost every dish they give us the option on how spicy we would like it to be.

Food:
Kimchi Pancake - This came out on a large plate that was suitable for group dinners; it was nice and crispy however the only downside of it is that it was barely cut so we all just used the chopsticks to pull it apart. Overall it was nice to eat (7.5/10)

Egg Roll - Inside the egg was yummy cheese and topped with mayonnaise and tomato sauce. This has to be one of the best ones I've eaten compared to other places and would definitely order this again!!! A great starter thats easily shared between a group of 6. (8/10)

Corn Cheese - OHHHHH they did not come to play with the corn cheese!!! Most places that I've been they all tend to have the same portion size however at Jang Gun they top it up like no tomorrow, for just $11 I was surprised to see a very loaded plate of corn cheese. On top of that, really liked this. The cheese / corn ratio along with the mayonnaise was perfect!!! (8/10)

Fried Chicken (Soy Garlic) - We got the boneless type and it was delicious. All cooked evenly, flavoured really well and so tender! Another favourite now, even the outside still had its crisps with the sauce marinating it. Yummmmmm need to go back for this! (8.5/10)

Chicken Giblets - Now this is something I don't see on the menu at most places, but as someone who does enjoy giblets it was nice to see this. These came out nice and hot. It was fried so it was like eating chicken with a bit more of a chew. This dish came with a little bowl of salt & pepper which was a good addition but since this was fried, they were able to give us a little serving of honey mustard for dipping. A menu gem! (8/10)

Service: The team here are absolute gems and very on the ball! They were patient with us as we were going through the whole menu and became indecisive about what to order because they have one too many good dishes. Also were quick to top up our side dishes as we dived into those as they landed on the table.

Overall, Jang Gun is a korean restaurant that everyone needs to at least try once in their time. It's a great place for group dinners and the food quality is great!!

My girlfriends and I visited this place a couple of weeks ago and we loved the food. The budae jjigae was very tasty, the flavours were well-balanced and the servings were huge. The spiciness was just right that it kept you going back for more. As for their KFC, I don't know what they put in their batter but the chicken was crunchy but still moist on the inside. I have to say, this is the best KFC that I have tasted in Melbourne so far.
LittleMushroom
Osam Bulgogi is one of my favorites, both squid and pork belly are tender. I like how we can choose the spiciness for each dish so people can adjust according to their tolerance. Beef short ribs are tasty, a little chewy but still one of the best compared to other places. Extra point for opening late! Just when every other restaurant was already closed, this place is still open and popular at late night.

Jang gun has staff that r introxicated and none Reg to liq service act's RSA there food allows U to vomitt just look around and piles of vomitt and manager is drunk and ride swears in Korean to people who r not Korean dresses like a twainese gangster thinks he is so tough even though he need his tea bags to protect him I feel sorry for JPL/JPY/ Pty ltd for employing such a tosser
I absolutely love Jang Gun, so much so that I visited this place twice in a week! I’ve tried many army stew (budae jjigae) in Melbourne and I think this is one of the best and also one of the cheapest. Their seafood pancake and cheese egg roll is absolutely delicious as well. The food serving is relatively huge, especially for 2 pax, but they don’t compromise on the food quality. One major plus point is the good service they give to customers here. The wait staffs are really friendly and polite despite the restaurant being extremely busy at night.
Kylie Goh
My friend and I went around 5.30 pm and it wasn’t busy. However, there were more people throughout our meal.

Ordered cheese buldak with “hot” spiciness, which is the 2nd choice of the spiciness. It wasn’t hot for me, so I would recommend people who like spicy food to go for super hot. Even though it wasn’t that spicy, it was really delicious and I liked it. The portion was huge and I couldn’t finish it. Worth the price!
FoodieJohn
Open till late so it’s perfect for night dwellers. Love the Korean food here. Everything is really good and I’d recommend the spicy Tofu seafood hotpot and fry chicken. It’s the bomb..
Jason Goh
I'd recommend the chicken giblets as well as the Korean fried chicken. The egg rolls (계란말이) was delicious as well as the buldak chicken with cheese (치즈 불닭). The staff was understanding too even with my drunk friend throwing a fuss. A really great place to hang out with friends for a drink. Also one of the few places that is still open late in the night. Perfect place to have supper.

Food:
- Altang: first time trying this because I couldn't find it at any other restaurant that I've been to. Very simple but had a range of different veggie and seafood, along with the fish roe. The only thing is that it's on the salty side, great with rice but as it simmered down the flavour intensified quite a bit.
- Garlic soy chicken: I hardly tasted garlic which is fine. The sauce is on the sweet side but was pleasant overall.

Price: so cheap compared to the amount of food

Service: attentive and friendly staff compared to most Korean restaurants

Ambience: quite a big restaurant, in the bigger room it looks a bit cramped but in the smaller room it's not too bad

Will come back for other dishes as I've heard a lot about their budae jjigae
Kettipark
Honestly my favourite korean restaurant. Staff are lovely and the food is amazing!! My favourite dish is the spicy chicken on stone plate. Will definitely be back soon.

LIT!: Possibly going to be my go to Korean restaurant! The soy garlic fried chicken is amazing. It’s so crispy and flavourful but it doesn’t even taste that oily. We had a squid dish too which was also delicious but we didn’t really touch it because we were so full.
-portion size!!

NOT SO LIT: us idiots over ordering and wasting food ): #subtleasiantriats #jokeswetookaway

Thanks for having us and letting us stay for hours x
Chey_ct
This place was the most crowded on Healeys Lane, in fact, a few people were queuing up to eat there at past 9 pm so we had big expectations. Unfortunately, we left a bit disappointed. The Yukhoe was a big portion and marinated well but I've got to say I had better ones in London. I thought the strips were cut quite thick and long and there were quite a few pieces of fat. In some parts, it didn't feel as tender. We also ordered the spicy pork which, again, was flavoursome but at least half of it was fat. The staff was efficient and friendly though and the plum wine ($13 for a small bottle that was more than enough for two people) as well as the dishes were quite reasonably priced.
Tasting Notes Melbourne
We love your soldiers stew late at night with friends and beer, keep it up, but please wash the gas burners more often yo! Also the fried chicken is also on point, only wish there wasn’t a wait in the cold every time we come
Yuma
one of my favourite Korean restaurant in Melbourne. have been here so many times.highly recommend the beef soup, kimchi pork, beef with egg, peach rice wine
Decent Feed
In need of some cheap and filling Korean food for a dinner catchup with a few friends, we headed to Jang Gun (a suggestion made by our friend) that turned out to be a fantastic decision.
We came on a Sunday night, and the restaurant was so packed that we had to wait another 15 mins for a table (hence I would suggest coming a bit earlier).

We ordered several dishes including the Beef Bulgogi Stew, Seafood pancake and a Chapchae. To start off with my favourite - the Beef Bulgolgi Stew, this was served in a huge pot with marinated beef and an assortment of vegetables. The soup was warm and comforting, and there was plenty to go around the table. The glass noodles (chapchae) was also a highlight dish amongst many of us. We found it to be very flavourful and demolished it with much enthusiasm. Unfortunately, the seafood pancake was different to what I was expecting. There was way too much spring onion for my liking, and I would have preferred more seafood than the spring onion.

Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience, and will definitely visit again when craving Korean food.

Top 3 korean food in CBD. Been here more than 5 times, everything was good and perfect- Budae jjigae, fried chicken, beef stew, beef bulgogi, pancake, YukHae,egg roll, seafood teobokki, cheese buldak and their peach soju. 这里的韩餐真的很好吃 量多 不贵 周五六日晚上都得排队 人很多。部队锅 芝士鸡 还有那个炒牛肉都很好吃. 店里的服务员都很不错. 赞!

A busy korean restaurant. Their soups are amazing especially their fish roe soup. Fried chicken and chicken giblets are also very nice and crispy. We also tried their chicken feet dish and quiet disappointed on this as it tasted bland and not spicy even though we ordered medium level on the spiciness. The chicken feet also not cooked thoroughly and some feet still had the nails on them

A very busy Korean place so had to wait around for a bit but that's okay. We were excited to order: Budae Jjiage Medium (the soup itself was bland but there was spam to balance that), Half Original & Half Garlic Soy Fried Chicken (overall, was not the best KFC i've had, wasn't crunchy enough, very very bland - no seasoning at all, garlic soy? could hardly taste it), cold noodle soup (so so, once again, have had better). The BEST (unexpectedly) was the Fried Chicken Giblets - a must order if you come here Would i come back? Nope, Gukbab is just around the corner

The best Japchae in town, 100%! Those Super delicious, succulent korean fried chicken, man their the bomb! We also had some a Cheese Buldak, their pretty good, only no rice cakes :(, though it was still nice and yummy. beef bulgogi is alright too. i recommend booking prior or you’ll be waiting for quite awhile.

Came here last night for a late dinner with my boyfriend. We ordered their famous army stew and the mild cheese buldak (spicy fire chicken with cheese). The proportions were a lot bigger than we expected, so it was a lot for two to share. Although we weren’t as impressed with the stew, the cheese buldak was a hit. Loved it, one of the best I’ve tried and would highly recommend this to others! Service was good, staff could have been more attentive. In saying that, we will definitely come back to try their other dishes.

Today is my friend's birthday. We ordered quite a lot dishes. Food is very good and fulfilling. But staff are not nice. We asked for some warm water, but they just ignored it and gave us sth we didn't order. Estimated wait time is 40 mins

This place seems to be packed with Koreans from lunchtime to very late. Clearly Jang Gun is doing a lot right. The kimchi is always good - which sounds like it should go without saying but it doesn’t always. The spicy pork has a good balance of heat and flavour. The staff is helpful and the place is always clean. I’ve never had a disappointing meal here.

My fave place for drinks. The food is standard (their chicken feet, steamed pork belly, mackerel are not bad though) and the store can be overcrowded and noisy during peak hours.
But I love that I could always get a table here on a friday night/weekends.
Has a great selection of drinks menu - they have a number of flavoured/fruity cocktail ricewine/soju options to choose from.

First time to come to this restaurant. It was quite close to my place.upon my arrival, i saw a big long queing in front of the restaurant. Im waiting for 1hours with my 3 friends and we’re so tired and hungry too. The ambience and the place itself was so crowded and busy during night. Besides my table, there were this girl groups been drinking soju and got drunk and they were so loud and noisy. And its affected to my table that me and my friends can’t even talk much due to that circumstances.

FOOD:
Budae Jjigae was the HIGHLIGHT of my food! Consists of sausage, spam, fish cake, pork belly, tofu, kimchi, cheese, ramen noodle, bean sprouts and beef bone soup base mix with red chilli paste. I think this is one of the best budae jjigae that i’ve ever have in melbourne!it was thick, rich, perfectly seasoned and boiled, full of flavours, loaded with lots of meats and vegetables too. The cheese really neutralise the spiciness of the soup without lessening its originality taste. Im really flabbergasted with how it taste.

Cheese Buldak was consist of stir fry chicken tight and vegetables with red chilli paste and mozzarella cheese on top. The chicken was perfectly good,i taste the smoke grill in my mouth and the tenderness of chicken mix with the cheese and the spiciness of red chilli paste itself. What a Perfect combo!

Beef Bulgogi was consist of stir fry beef with vegetables and soy based sauce. It was good, the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned however too much onion and peppers & meat portion was too little.

Overall, the staffs was nice and friendly and the food was really good too. I want to come back to have their budae jjigae again, however i don’t want to queing for 1 hours (or can be more)😅 (please have the manager/management do something about that).

#BHAsFoodDiary
K: Hidden away in a laneway near Flagstaff station and a host of other Korean hotspots, this gem of a restaurant offers famous Korean stews and very delicious cheesy goodness. With service that is nothing short of friendly and welcoming, my brother and I were excited to try out the delicious food at Jang Gun.

Ordering the chicken stir fry with mozzarella and Napoleon sauce, as well as the famous stew ($29), we were left exceptionally full and delighted. The chicken dish was fantastic. Every bite was like a delicious pizza with all the properties of tender juicy chicken. The cheese wasn't overbearing but instead was easy and tasty alike. The broth, Ramen, multitude of meats and vegetables were a hit for the stew, making a flavoursome albeit spicy and hot concoction of delight. There was just so much to eat so we would recommend this for maybe four people as opposed to two.

If you enjoy your Korean dishes especially stews and spicy variants, try this place out- you will not be disappointed!

Food: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Value: 4/5

Overall: 4/5

The food tastes really good!!! But the fried noodles and the egg roll is a little bit too much sweet for me. The beef soup should be more spicy and add more favours. Love the seafood pancake (it’s the thickest pancake I have ever tried). I think it’s relatively cheap since the proportion is tooooooo generous (which is a good thing tho hahaha).

Little gem in Melbourne CBD laneway. Perfect for late night feed. Love the army stew here!! Corn cheese is a must. Tried almost everything on the menu and nothing let me down

Friendly staff. Easy to find parking so don’t hesitate to drive into the city and treat yourself with a late night feed.

“Good things always need to wait.” This sure does apply to Janggun.

Been here for few times and it was always crowded. Love their egg roll will cheese and seafood pancake sure are the best things to go with their rice wine cocktails.

Had army base soup and beef tartare. Was my first time having raw beef and it was not bad. It had a chewy texture and was juicy.

Is a good place to go for supper as they opens until 4am in the morning.

By far the best korean place in Melbourne that I have encountered. Coming from Sydney, we came in with friends just to chill and drink. Even though we had to wait quite a while, it was still the best for the weather. Ordered a quite a few soju flavours and korean fried chicken, its the best to kick off the winter season with this place. You can't go wrong with this place.

Osam bulgogi (stir fry squid with pork) was very delicious! We asked for jjambbong tang (spicy seafood food soup) mild but that itself was very spicy, still enjoyable. The staff were super friendly even when we kept asking for refills for the small side dishes.

Jang Gun is a popular Korean eatery tucked away quietly down Healey’s Lane, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Despite its hidden location and tiny venue, you can expect a long queue of hungry customers waiting outside at dinner time so you can’t miss it! We visited Jang Gun on a Saturday night at 5pm (as soon as it opened), and managed to get seats immediately, however by 6pm is was completely full and outside already had a crowd forming.

Everything on the menu looked delicious, and we may have ordered a little too much for 3 people. We tried the army stew, the seafood pancake, the deokbeokki and the half and half fried chicken (garlic soy and original flavours). All of the dishes were very tasty, and each portion was huge! The seafood pancake was one of our favourites - crispy on the outside and thick and chewy on the inside, filled with heaps of prawn and squid! The army stew was very flavourful, hearty and warming (definitely one of the best ones we’ve had), perfect for a cold winter night. The chicken was amazing - super crispy on the outside and nice and tender on the inside, without being too oily, and had the perfect amount of sauce. Our dishes were also accompanied with free banchan of bean sprouts, kimchi and pasta salad, which you could refill unlimited times!

The staff are all very friendly and still very attentive despite how busy it got! We didn’t end up finishing all of our food and the waiter nicely offered us 3 boxes to take the it home.

Overall, we had a fantastic meal at Jang Gun, and it is definitely one of the best Korean eateries out there, in terms of price, flavour and quality! I would definitely recommend checking it out if you haven’t already!

Delicious army stew perfect for two people. Really generous portion for egg roll and kimchi pancake. Enjoyed it! Will try the rice wine next time
