Review Walk Don't Run - Melbourne

Have loved this small cost cafe for a long time and always make a beeline to eat here if I’m in the neighbourhood. Coffee is excellent and the homemade cakes and slices that are refined sugar free are hard to go by. Everything is made to order with care and love and quality ingredients. It really is a 'mindful eating' experience and you leave feeling you’ve eaten a nutritious meal that has been good for both the mind and soul.

Lovely service, great coffee, and interesting food options. I really like a place that goes beyond the standard brunch options and offers something unique and nourishing. The savory porridge with chili was warm, salty and a little sweet. Loved the unique flavor and perfect for a Winter’s day. The superfood breakfast was great too, the highlight being the seed and nut bread that gave a wonderful flavor. It was also great to see French Press coffee as an option, as I love to sip from a pot of coffee instead of having to order several espressos over the course of my breakfast.

A small café tuck away in a corner near a construction site, yet the food was surprisingly good, a bit pricey but hey...you pay for what you get. Café with a simple design, a bit rusty if I have to say so myself. At 2 in the afternoon, the café has a chilling atmosphere. The chef, on the other hand, had a look of a yakuza. Well, at least until he smile that is. I was on a rushed so the staff recommend me the Bibimbak. The dish surprised me. Instead of normal white rice, they use brown rice so the texture was different. The dish was lightly flavor but it is lunch so you wouldn't want anything to heavy. I have not tried the rest of the menu so I cannot say the same for the rest. And the staff was friendly ^^ All in all, a nice place to hang with friend, food is really good albeit a bit on the expensive side. Good place

Quickly grabbed a Goji Glow and orange almond cake for my journey to Frankston this morning. Nothing made it to McKinnon. Especially that Goji Glow, ooolala, it has to be the best utilisation of goji berries in human history. Goji berries would be proud to serve in their Goji Glow.

Had a great experience at Walk Don't Run. Delicious food and lovely staff. Unfortunately, I saw on their Instagram that all the COVID lockdowns have made it too difficult for them to continue. Have always loved coming here, I hope the team can regroup at some point!

Really good food. So delicious can't stop thinking about it. Had the soup which is creamy, smooth, delicious, various ingredients that combine to perfection. The toast on the side was really nice and compact, it's great how much effort is put into every detail. Customer service is also excellent. Only downside is there are limited seats and the tables are a little small.

Lovely little cafe with delicious food thoughtfully put together. The space is small and cosy, and service is excellent. There is a wide range of options, from western to Asian styles. Ingredients are fresh and nicely blend together. Definitely a local gem!

I was looking forward to a good Mother's Day experience there. I was underwhelmed as my Berrie and nuts pancake was missing the berries and nuts. It was more of a garnish rather than a Berrie and nuts pancake!

It's hard enough finding restaurants with organic options in normal times, I was stoked to find this place open for takeway during COVID-19 times. Love the diverse menu; some dishes are priced fairly and some are a bit expensive for what they are. I've tried the bean soup, the lamb sandwich, the beef brisket sandwich, gluten-free and dairy-free pancakes and the goji bar, all of which tasted healthy and delicious. The staff are friendly though not always knowledgeable when it comes to what ingredients are involved. I believe they have ingredients listed on their menu though. Nice variety of sweet treats but most use rice malt syrup, I believe. Would love to see more options with honey other than the goji bar. Oh and they make their own bread 👌

A bit of wait for sitting in Melbourne cup day. The service handled it great. Food was out of the ordinary by far for taste for a healthy choice of breakfast.
A must try even if your not local.

I would be the saddest person in Melbourne if I couldn't go to Walk Don't Run a few times a week and nourish my body and soul with this slow-cooked, organic, delicious goodness.

Expensive and food was ok. I asked what the vegan option was for the soba noodle (which on the menu it said there was an option) but the staff said they didn’t know, just that it was ‘maybe more vegetables’ but instead of the chicken and poached egg, I got some soba noodles, mushrooms, kale, spring onion and coriander but this was hardly satisfying. I was still charged $25 for this basic bowl of food that I could have made myself. There was no exciting flavour or element. My fiend got a Rueben sandwich which she liked but it was so tiny and yet it cost $22. I wish I’d taken photos. I wouldn’t return despite the nice fit out and friendly staff. I really wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt but it didn’t work out for me.

Yeah the Poke bowl is awesome and really exposes a lot of the other cafes in the general south east who take shortcuts with their ingredients and cooking. Refreshing and lively flavours throughout the remaining dishes as well . Coffee is killer too .

Cannot rave enough about this fabulous little cafe. What it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in delectable, healthy dishes using only the freshest, top quality ingredients, with flavours that excite the palate...Will definitely return. Well done Tom and your friendly team.

Amazing food, had the hot chocolate twice in one meal! The vegan brownie and Reuben sandwich were so delicious, will definitely be going back!

One of my favorite cafes in Melbourne. Clean meals, fresh ingredients and lovely staff. My personal favorite is the superfood salad and the matcha latte. Highly recommended!

Absolute best cafe in Melbourne, the food is exceptionally, perfect portion size, full of flavour. Hidden gem in armadale, always my go to. Adore it!

Come here for coffee every now and then and it's normally really nice, however last time I went it tasted a bit burnt. I also find that when you walk in here, it's always a bit awkward, you don't really know where to stand. Have found a few of the staff a bit awkward too. Really cute place though, will need to come here and eat sometime.

Little cafe down a little deadend and the whole premise is that you slow down and actually taste what you eat, so anticipate a relaxed service but OH MY GOD! The most delicious Japanese, wholesome, healthy, tasty food. I’ve been back regularly and almost hesitate to recommend because I don’t want it being crazy busy and too full so I never miss out. Love it so much.

10/10 for friendly service
10/10 for delicious and healthy food
10/10 for the best Chai Late EVER

I have been there a few times and every time I have gone and tried something new I have absolutely loved it ALL! The only productive criticism is that the portions for some of the meals were a bit small for me. But no worries it just meant that I ordered some more yummy food 😉🤤.

Be warned if you don't want the entire cafe listening to your conversation make sure you go on a nice day so you can sit outside because the cafe itself is tiny. Had the savoury porridge would give it a 8/10. My only wish is that it was a bigger serving but it's so tasty and full of flavour. My friend got the benedict and she said it was also really good. As all the other reviews say it's on the pricey side but the quality of food is really good.

I try to eat mindfully and organic (when I'm not mindlessly eating a whole bag of Easter eggs ie yesterday) so off I set to check out Walk don't Run. I ordered the life loaf with poached eggs and a side of pesto which definitely felt healthy and nourishing and was similarly priced to the non housemade seeded variety of toast and poachies at your average non organic cafe. I possibly should have ordered something more adventurous but it was nothing special for me although I did feel pretty righteous knowing I was consuming a cleaner version of my standard sourdough

We have always received friendly service in this intimate and cute space. Food is delicious and guilt free. I LOVE the savoury rice porridge, it's my favourite dish. This is one cafe we keep continually going back to. Thanks guys, keep up the good work!

My favourite local. Best coffee in Armadale and surrounds! And the best part? Your tap water is sparkling - ah the little touches 💛

The staff are amazing, warm, delightful and quick. The philosophy behind Walk Don't Run is right up my alley... mindful eating and healthy nourishing dishes.

Such a cute and unique little gem hidden behind the Main Street of Armadale.
Attracting a more down to earth crowd, it is the perfect little breakie spot or coffee catch up.
The food is a combination of new flavours and healthy eating leaving you feeling satisfied but not near full enough.
That would be my only, yet quite important criticism of this place.
Unfortunately the portions of the food are severely underwhelming. The tastes are so lovely that it certainly leaves you wanting to order another entire meal.
I am happy to pay the price for this type of clean eating, but would be completely satisfied if the portions were more generous.. Oh and expect to order a second coffee because it's about half the size of a normal coffee but the same price.. Hmmmmmm

Extremely lovely and nourishing food, as well as being fully organic. They make there own life loaf bread and combinations of flavours are unexpected and wonderful. The wait was a bit long for me but when my meal came it was to die for! I will defiantly be returning. Overall: Overly Satisfying!

Walk, don’t run to this cafe, just in case you miss it. No seriously, we almost did. Walk Don’t Run is a cafe located just on the north side of Armadale station. It’s a difficult area to access by car and you’d have to park on the south side of the railway and cross the walk bridge to get there.
World In A Bite
This cafe believes in "mindful eating" but they don't even know what it means... Mindful eating is watching what you put in your mouth but not necessarily has to be organic... You eat and focus on the food, the flavour, mouthfeel and texture. Stop when you're full. Eat everything in moderation in a mindful manner. #Buddhist 🙏🏻

Food 1.5 - gourmet & healthy... I love the life loaf... 😋🍞
Decors 0.75 - cute cafe but it's very tiny and limited in space. Inside was very cold!
Service 0.75 - average

Great concept but way too overpriced for what they offer. Seriously 9.50 for a juice the size of a small coffee is ridiculous...sorry but i won't be coming again

Sometimes brunching all the time can get a little repetitive. After a few iterations of the hot new thing, whether that be smashed avocados, micro herbs on pancakes, donut burgers or whatever the next big craze is, it can be a bit tiring. Walk Don’t Run treads its own path. The dishes have the perfect combination of Japanese flavours and Melbourne brunch sensibilities that don’t fall into the trap of needing to be trendy. I’ve visited Walk Don’t Run twice before and I’ve blogged about it once, but I love it so much that it deserves its own post.

Some of the dishes at Walk Don’t Run are definitely on the pricier side. However, considering the depth of flavour in each dish and the careful preparation behind the ingredients I think it is worth it. Whilst this might be a bit too expensive to be an everyday café, it is the perfect place to collect yourself through their philosophy of mindful eating and the relaxing atmosphere. Without a doubt, Walk Don’t Run is one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne and every subsequent visit just solidifies my love.

Walking into this place I felt like I had found a hidden treasure, a friendly neighborhood cafe that is organic and all about "mindfulness." However I left feeling disappointed. My husband and I ordered the Avocado and salsa with whipped feta and a poached egg. It sounded lovely and I had a picture in my mind of mounds of smashed avo on thick tasty bread with fluffy clouds of this so called "whipped" feta toped with a fresh and zesty salsa, and a runny poached egg. At least I thought for $18.00 I would be satisfied. However what arrived on our plates was a tiny square of bread with not a lot of topping. It tasted nice and was well presented, however it was not nearly worth the $18 price tag. I appreciate that it was all organic and locally sourced produce, however there are many cafes in Melbourne with a similar concept serving up excellent food, with generous servings. I left feeling underwhelmed and still hungry. On the upside the coffee was excellent.

Love the atmosphere of the cafe. It was cozy and welcoming with wonderful coffee aroma.

Their cappuccino tasted good.

Service was quick with friendly smile. I will return to try their healthy items.

This has to be one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. The coffee is consistently superb, and the menu is delicious.

Today, I tried the savoury porridge with tofu, the porridge was salty and flavourful whilst the tofu was smooth and divine. A few sprigs of coriander on top really enhanced the flavours. A+ will definitely order again :)

Love this place, what a hidden gem. The life loaf is absolutely delicious, dense, and full of health. The menu is small but beautiful - I love the greens. Goes so well with the life loaf! They have delicious matcha green tea lattes too, very friendly to health foodies and lovely service. Highly recommended!

The first time I came here I had the Superfood Breakfast, which was great. Second time was much more of a let down. I got the poached chicken which was really tasty, but tiny. $22 is not a cheap lunch and I expected something substantial but I was still hungry afterwards. Good for a snack or brunch, but then not really worth the money. I'd probably rate this place a 4.5 or 5 otherwise.

The Chai Latte is also really good here, but it didn't come served with a little pot of honey like it did my on my first visit, which was also a bit disappointing. The food here is good and I love the general vibe, but I’d be careful when selecting dishes. Maybe ask for the size before you order.

Update: They have changed their menu and the food sizes seem more reasonable (from the two dishes that I've seen so far) which is good. However, the service was bad. It's been fine the last two times but it took ten minutes to receive menus and another 20-30 minutes til they took our orders. They also brought us the wrong drinks.

This place is awesome... my wife and I had a wonderful experience. I joined Zomato just to review this cafe! My wife adored the life loaf. She has some food allergies so it was nice to find a cafe that was so accommodating. I had the rice porridge, which was scrumptious. Reminded me of a healthy congee. Service was impeccable. Decor was great too. Thanks Walk Don't Run.

On first impression I noticed how clean and welcoming the cafe itself was. The decor was lovely and the space was filled with aromas of delicious food and expertly made coffees. I thoroughly enjoyed my rice porridge which I added the hot smoked salmon to and had to have two of the Prana Chai lattes. The service was excellent as the girls on staff were not intrusive but always seemed to be available to me when I needed something. I will definitely be back time and time again to see what the chef has cooking, who served me my dish himself with a warm smile. This was such a wonderful experience and I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Really disappointed in this cafe. Had heard really great reviews so was extremely excited. I paid $20 for 2 tiny pieces of toast with minimal labneh, salmon and a poached egg. Also ordered a coffee that was extremely small, not worth the price of it. Very disappointed.

Quite disappointed.

For 18 dollars you'd expect more than one piece of life loaf (toast) with your smashed avo. A tiny piece of toast too.

Disappointed as it was quite tasty, but with the amount of great cafes in the area this is unfortunately really not value for money.

The food is too healthy for my taste, however it does have a refreshing taste and feel too it. The service was really good and nice but the menu definitely have room for improvement, wasn't too much to choose from. Do make sure to check menu before heading over :)

Absolute gem. Came here for a solo brunch this morning and could not be happier with the whole experience. Cafe has a wonderful energy and staff are excellent. Will definitely be coming back

What a wonderful cafe! I love everything about it. The atmosphere is relaxing yet lively, the staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the menu is truly inspiring. It isn't your typical smashed avocado on toast kind of cafe - it is way more than that, thank God! There has been a lot of thought put not only into the menu, but also into the decor. It's a smallish cafe with a very unique style. I have been a handful of times and have never been disappointed. I will return again and again. My advice is run, don't walk. xx

Excellent find! The smoked salmon salad was spot on for presentation and taste. Decided to try one of their juices made on site (I believe it was called the Green King), and I could not fault it. Nice, short sharp menu packed full of fresh and inviting options. Will definitely be back at some point!

Damn, Melbourne has a strong brunch game. With cafes opening left, right and centre, Melburnian’s are ridiculously spoilt for choice. As a foodie, one of the most satisfying experiences is when one discovers a true HIDDEN GEM. From the team behind The Merchants Guild in Bentleigh East, Walk Don’t Run is their latest venture. Quietly located in an Armadale back street, it feels like you’ve stumbled across something special.

A lovely little place for lunch. We had a delicious bean soup and a smoked trout on their trademark yummy loaf/bread. Fresh and stylish interior. Will definitely go back as well as recommend it to our friends.

Though the menu looks promising I probably won't go again. I found the atmosphere in this place too cold and sincere...I felt like I was sitting in some rarely used office kitchen and sorry, but $4,50 for filter coffee is just insane. I love my coffee too much - and there wasn't any difference between that one and the one I make at home for breakfast every morning. Wait! Except the price!!
If there's a concept behind all this ... it wasn't obvious to me and our waitress did not enlighten us either.

What a cracking little place for lunch, came about this place due to a cancelled meeting so was on my own and feeling lonely but was lucky enough to try egg plant with some sort of spicy nutty sauce and it was absolute delicious..... a great find and I will be back.

Rare Beef Tataki with Raw Broccoli and Quinoa Tabouli. So delicious

I felt so satisfied from the delicious and fresh healthy breakfast. It's like the food my grandma would make if my grandma was super groovy and healthy! A must go cafe

Looking at the menu, I looked at The Boy and thought “oh, oh!”. Vincent Conti (one of the brainiacs behind Prana Chai and Merchants Guild, the other being Mario Minichili), who was there that day, informed us that there would be no lattes on offer. No espressos. No milk or sugar. “How about some cold-pressed juice or herbal teas? French press, single origin coffee”, he proffered instead. If I had read the media release properly, I would have already known this, but heck, nothing but a good surprise. The Boy decided to go with a Good Morning breakfast tea $4 that came complete with a timer. Loved that little touch. I went with the Filtered coffee option at $4.50
