Such a great cozy place with delicious food!
Love how the portion was worth the price as well.
The chicken karaage and tempura were so crispy, takoyaki had the perfect taste and texture, and the unagi was so flavorful!
I'm just searching for food to eat on zomato, then i found this restaurant and interested to try. I tried the chicken kaarage don and i really love it! Its crispy on the outside and soft on the inside makes it on point! 👍🏻 the salad are freshly made, the seasoning and mayonnaise are tasty, the rice is soft and sticky which is the way i like it, don't forget the eggs ❤️ the only thing is that the seats are not that comfortable since i was sitting on the bar table near the front door, but overall it is worth to try.
價格算平價,拉麵湯底很濃
炸雞很好吃,,另外給朋友外帶的
章魚燒跟煎餃也很好吃
I reckon this place does better side dishes than ramen.
Tried the karaage chicken it was so crispy on the out and juicy on the in.
The gyoza was one of the best I have had. Sooo juicy and lovely filling. The dough is very thin.
It was an enjoyable dining experience and all staff was friendly.
Really good ramen. The tonkatsu broth was rich and full of collagen. You order via an ipad and what I love is that you can pick the hardness of your noodles which is great. Serving size was a bit on the smaller side but I found it the right amount (I don't always want to end up in food coma). Chashu was delicious and that ajitsuke tamago (egg) is one of the best in Melbourne. Service was friendly however they forgot one of the ramens so by the time it came everyone had finished their bowl. Good prices starting at $13.50 for a regular bowl of tonkatsu ramen.
I would definitely come back

Ordered the Tantanmen with spicy level 1. Simply awesome. The broth is light and flavoursome and the noodle was the right texture. The fried onions and other seasonings all balanced the ramen very well. The flavoured egg was wonderful. I think I have found my new favourite ramen bar.
Hakoya Ramen is a Japanese restaurant that serves a variety of ramen and rice dishes. We came here on a weekday night. The restaurant is extremely popular due to opening late (I think they close at 12pm). It was around 10:30pm when we arrived and there were people everywhere.
The inside of the restaurant looked like one of the small ramen joints you’ll see in Japan. There’s tables on the side and stool seats facing an open kitchen. They use iPads for ordering. We decided to get the signature ramen (Tonkotsu) combo which included their popular korean styled fried popcorn chicken dish and a canned drink.
The popcorn chicken came out first and it was a delight to eat. They were crunchy on the outside and juicy in the inside and went perfectly with the mayonnaise provided. What was a bummer was the super thin sliced of lemon. They should definitely give people a larger slice. You couldn’t even squeeze the damn thing!
The ramen came out next. My first impression of the ramen was that the broth looked extremely oily but after taking a spoonful, the broth was actually really good! Don’t judge a book by it’s cover… I really liked the way they cooked the noodles. It wasn’t too firm nor was it too soft. Just the way I like it. The broth was nice as well. It’s one of those broth where you can still drink it after. It’s not too fatty nor salty. The egg was cooked perfectly! The biggest letdown was the pork which was kind of tough but it wasn’t too bad. I can forgive it.
Overall, I reccomend coming here. I know it’s not as popular as the other bigger ramen franchises around Melbourne but it’s defs worth trying out.
Absolutely delicious. We had a craving and this place seriously fit the bill. Delicious food and lovely staff. Really speedy and authentic Korean deliciousness. We will be back!

Recommendation:
If you like dry noodles, Mazemen in this joint is amazing. It is very light but tasteful, quite refreshing and also filling. It is a bonus if you also like garlic chives.
The add-ons are also quite affordable as well.
Beware: The Tonkotsu soup base is unbelievably and unworldly creamy. Some really love that but some may find it too thick.
Entree and side-dishes taste alright.

Hakoya ramen is a cosy japanese ramen restaurant near where I lived. The service is friendly and attentive.
While the food is generally good, I would prefer the ramen broth to be stronger tasting. But that's just my preference. Have to try their takoyaki they are really delicious.
Overall, it was a good experience. One of my regular go-to ramen place on Lonsdale St.
Lovely ramen and the soup broth is rich and tasty. Just falls slightly short compared to the flavours at Ippudo but I think it’s very marginal. Pricing is better and so is the service. Very friendly and accommodating. I’ll be coming here very regularly for my ramen fix
A cosy japanese place. Friendly service and nice interior. Ordered Hakoya tonkotsu - classic hakata ramen with a flavoursome broth. Egg has a soy sauce taste and the tonkotsu is well charred complimenting the ramen.
Tantanmen spicy pork broth was good. Ordered the least spicy which was good for the palatte. The fried onions were amazing and flavoursome.
Takoyaki was well made. Soft octopus and well seasoned batter.
When there are *that* many ramen places in town, newcomers have to step it up and Hakoya has done a good job here. The menu offers a range of ramen and entree options. Diners pick their selections on a piece of paper, which is whisked away and promptly returned, with food soon to follow.
It's all about the broth, which was thick with flavour and so good that I was glad to have a ladle spoon. I chose soft noodles and enjoyed the resulting texture. The pork belly (cha siu) disintegrated on contact and melted in my mouth. The Takoyaki (octopus balls) were a bit bland though compared to what I'm used to.
The cozy space transported me to Japan in an instant. The clever use of noren (curtains) creates privacy and atmosphere at each table. They give you a tray to put belongings in after you're seated. Polite and efficient service completes the experience. This will be a good place to visit for good ramen as the temperatures drop to make way for winter.
I have always been fond of Noodles and most of the Asian restaurants I go, I prefer Noodles for my main course rather than anything else on the menu. I have been to Ajisen Ramen, Shujinko and couple of other Ramen joints in town but, the experience I had at Hakoya was indeed delightful.
Me and my buddy were greeted by a lady with a genuine smile on her face. Being not used to the menu, I have asked her so many silly questions and she was very helpful and patiently answered all my queries. 5 star for customer care.
We ordered both Hot and Cold Ramen, in fact, it was the first time in my life I have seen a noodles dish which is served cold. Our orders were Hakoya Tonkotsu and Hiyashi Ramen (cold). The menu was simple and I find the pricing to be just perfect. The sides were also aptly priced and they do have the premium beer just for $4 (happy hours).
Placing order was a new experience since we have to mark, using a pen, our order in the sheet provided and the staff will take care of the rest of the stuff. The food was served quite fast, a plus point. You can specify the Noodles texture, yes/no to Sprint onion etc. The Hakoya Tonkotsu was very delicious, one of the best I have ever had. The pork was very very delicious, cooked to perfection since it melts inside (I meant it, like a dessert) the mouth, covering up all the taste buds with the magical flavor.
Once done, you will be guided to the counter by a friendly staff and the best part is, you can split the bill. I absolutely loved the experience and can't wait to go back. 100% recommend this place.
Definitely will come back here soon. One of the best ramen we had. It’s not a big place, but it’s definitely worth to try.
We tried their both signature ramen, Hakoya Tonkotsu and Tantanmen, Chicken karaage and Gyoza.
The soup was really outstanding, loving the thickness and creaminess from the broth. Noodle tastes springy and really good. Cha-Shu (flavored pork belly) is really good that you can taste and smell the smoke from the meat. However, we only got 1 slice of pork belly, which is too little.
Gyoza was good with meat cooked well inside and pretty crispy on the outside. Karaage chicken was not the best we tried. Skin outside is not really crispy and a little bit soggy in the meat inside.
The place is small but cozy with a typical Japanese themed ramen shop. The TanTan was delicious along with reasonable price for the serve size. The service could use a little more improvement but overall it’s a nice place to get ramen in a small group / alone
Went here last week. We tried the original tonkotsu and the cold ramen with were very delicious, well presented.
The staffs are very friendly. Definetely a hidden gem and would love to come back!
The ramen here is amazing! Ordered the spicy one and the original one. Had to wait as there was a little cue at the door. However, the food made up for it. It was worth the wait. We ordered karage chicken, chicken don and octopus. The don had a very good balance and rice was so good. Absolutely delicious! Will go again.
Monica is waitress who greets you with a smile at the door. I always order the hokoya tonkotsu and the broth is amazing ! The noodles are always cooked perfectly and the service fast. They play Korean pop if you’re into that as well :)
Competition is undoubtedly fierce between an ever increasing number of ramen joints popping up in Melbourne. Despite this, Hakoya ranks amongst one of the top ramen we’ve sampled in Melbourne.
While their ramen may not be strictly authentic, the delicious, flavourful broth, coupled with amazing chashu and silky smooth noodles, definitely won us over!
For entrees, we ordered the okonomiyaki skewer and karaage chicken. From a presentation perspective, the okonomiyaki skewer looked fantastic with the fish flakes flickering above the cabbage pancake, and tasted really good, a great way to start the meal. The batter on the karaage was nice and fluffy, pretty good for $5.
We then tried two ramen dishes from their “signature” range being the TONKOTSU and TANTANMEN ramens. Both broths offered very different and distinct flavours, but very authentic flavours. Upon first look, the portion size didn’t look that big, but I can assure you by the end of it, we were both very full and satisfied. I am usually a big fan of the TANTANMEN ramen due to the immediate spicy kick that the TANTANMEN provides, but I would be happy to order either one again on a return visit as the TONKOTSU was also very flavoursome. We didn’t order the extras, but soft boiled egg and and more cha shu can be added on to you ramen order, in hindsight, I would have loved to have ordered the egg. (always a next time)
Overall a great experience and highly recommended if you are looking for somewhere to satisfy your ‘ramen’ fix. Thanks for the invite.
3.5 Hakoya is located at the edge of Melbourne's CBD and specialises in ramen.
Each ramen is customisable with assorted toppings. There are various broth options (tonkotsu, tantamen, spicy tonkotsu, mazemen, hiyashi and there is even a vegetarian option) to choose from for your ramen.
This place is fairly new and I’ve been twice already! I’m glad that there is now decent ramen in the area. I’ve had the chicken kaarage and the signature tonkotsu ramen! The ramen is delicious, it’s rich and creamy! I found the food arrived quickly and the service is fine also there’s counter and table seating!
Hakoya Ramen has been open in the city for a few months now and they’re making their mark with an awesome selection of ramen. They have the hakoya tonkotso, tantanmen, mazemen (soupless), hiyashi ramen (served cold) and for the vegetarians a vege ramen with miso and veg broth. They don’t only do ramen, they also have sides and donburi bowls. Complete your meal with some Japanese beer, sake or tea and you’ll be happy that you did.
One of my favourite ramen place in Melbourne now.
The staff was very friendly and I love the ramen so much.
They also have the best tokoyaki I ever had in Melbourne.
I highly recommend this place. :)
Quite delicious to be honest and the char siu is quite unique compared to other places I have tried. Noodles were firm and the broth was suited to my taste. However, ordered an extra serve of noodles and it came put before o had finished my original portion. So when I finished eating, the noodles have gone cold and clumped together. Apart from that, will go again to try other dishes
A really cute atmosphere - it makes you feel like you’re in a ramen joint in Japan. The ordering system with the paper is also really convenient and helpful as it caters to a few different languages, making the ordering process a little easier. The staff are also very lovely and friendly. The food was great and I can’t wait to come back again! ありがとうございました!
We had passed Hakoya Ramen when it first opened and decided to try it out! Here’s what we had!
Hakoya tonkotsu - their classic signature broth (hakata style) served with char siu, black fungus and spring onions. What I liked about this was the lightness and tastiness of the broth. Broths can sometimes be overly salty whereas you could actually taste naturalness of their broth! Char siu was soft and juicy which made the bowl even tastier!
Mazemen - soupless noodles with spicy minced pork, garlic, chive, yolk and vinegar on the side - think of this as a bibimbap but a noodle version. The idea is to mix up all these elements together for it to be absorbed into the noodles! The end product was a dry sweetened up noodles with a spicy kick which I thoroughly enjoyed! The addition of the vinegar was a clever touch to add a bit of sourness to this dish hence why it was my favorite for the day! 🤩
Karaage chicken don - for the rice lovers out there, this dish was pretty delicious with the fried chicken being battered to perfection and the insides being super juicy. The best part of this is that it goes well with or without rice!
Gyoza - these pork dumplings were pretty yummy with the meat being marinated very well!
Overall, we were impressed with this new joint and would go back to have the same items again!
I really like the soupless noodle. One thing I want the restaurant to change is that the noodle is not enough. I understand that someone can’t eat a lot, but it would be nice to get more noodle in the soupless noodle considering there are a lot of condiments in it.
Also the waitress should provide the customer with water as soon as we sit down. Don’t make me ask everytime.
Had to wait as there was a little cue at the door. However the food made up for it. It was worth the wait. We ordered karage chicken, chicken don and octopus. The don had a very good balance and rice was so good. Absolutely delicious! Will go again.
The ramen is AMAZING!!!! Ordered the spicy one and the original one. Make sure you get yourself a set so that you can have the special rice. It’s so good that you can literally feel the heaven in your mouth. MUST TRY and will come back for more. Love it!!!
Hello new ramen joint! I must say, the word got around pretty quickly because there was a queue outside the restaurant when I went. But that being said, it was quite a small dainty restaurant that reminded me of a ramen shop in Japan.
I tried their signature signature 12-hour hakata tonkatsu stock and it was definetly creamy. But there wasn't a strong pork taste to it. It was quite subtle compared to other tonkatsu soups that I've had. The ajitama (flavoured boiled egg) was cooked to perfection! Runny on the inside just the way I like it. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My bf had the spicy tonkatsu ramen and this one had a lot of flavour to it thanks to the 'secret blend garlic spicy sauce'. I actually preferred this over the hakata tonkatsu because it packed more flavour to it.
Next time I'm going to give the Mazemen a try - a Taiwanese soupless noodle which seemed quite popular amongst other people.
Happened to be in the area visiting a friend on a Friday night. The quaint little place was inviting enough for us to drop in after. Glad we did. The ramen and takoyaki that we had were yum! And being able to wash that down with some Saporo beer made it all the better. We were there a couple of minutes before they were finishing up for the day, so it wasn’t too busy. Wonder if they’ll pull a crowd at busier times?
Points for: the mazemen
The newest ramen-kid on the block, Hakoya is an international chain with branches in Seoul and Sydney.
They bring their signature 12-hour tonkotsu stock, but they also bring something that is relatively rare in Melbourne - Mazemen.
The soupless ramen comes with a straight, thin, hakata style noodle, with a bit of lightly spicy soy sauce mix at the bottom.
On top, there is a bunch of minced garlic, nori strips, minced raw onion, chopped chives, spring onion, minced pork and an egg yolk.
Break the yolk and mix everything up, the noodles are coated in a rich, creamy-like sauce with loads of bite from the garlic, onion, spring onion and chives.
It is a delicious combination but be prepared for the aftermath.
On the side, you also get a kombu vinegar, which is highly recommended to add, which cuts the noodles with a smooth, but mildly acidic hit.
The gyoza was fried then steamed, the skin had a good thickness, and it was full up with pork and cabbage, but leaning to the salty side.
For a lunch period, it was pretty busy so looks like there's a lot of potential for these guys.
Went here twice - the spicy udon broth is amazing in its depth and flavour.
Kaarage curry is immaculate.
Tempura prawns are probably the best I’ve had.
This is a clean small space with cute decor, would go again.
Wow what a lovely place! We didn't have a booking and came in late. They were very accommodating and the lady serving us was super nice. We ordered our food on the iPad which was good! Food tasted awesome and the serving size was good and reasonably priced Thank you for feeding us.
Nice little Japanese eatery. Udon soup base was nice and portion good size if you are not super hungry. But limited choices on each section of menu.
the food was really delicious, and I really liked the layout of the booths. I am able to come in by myself and enjoy the food because the booths are kind of isolated and give some sense of privacy. I like how you are able to order on a screen, and the food came very quickly. The prices were very good and cheap, especially for the portion and quality given. I will recommend this to my friends.
Had the katsu don with an additional pork cutlet for only $3 extra which is a bargain. Rice was perfectly cooked, pork was tender and not dry, and the batter was soaked with the flavourful sauce still retaining some crispiness on the edges. Also had the wagyu don accompanied with an onsen egg which was perfectly cooked with a runny yolk. When served you can immediately smell the aroma of the flame seared beef, thinly sliced and very tender.
Food was tasty especially the wagyu don; also reasonably priced for the amount of toppings you get for the rice bowls. Ordering is via the touch pad and water and cutlery is already provided on the tables.
The venue was quite nice, and the food was good. Only few things I think could improve ~
I ordered Onsen Don which is seafood base Don, I’m quite happy with wasabi, however, it should supply a small dish to mix the wasabi and the soy sauce ~
Also so pity they didn’t serve any soup !
But the location and customer service were not too bad !
Overall good japanese place
Chicken karaage that I had is one of the best! The crunch and the batter is soo good
The portion could have been bigger but overall taste is good. The staffs are nice and the service is good
Located across southern cross station, this casual Japanese spot serves delicious rice bowl, bento and udon. We love their unagi don, udon katsu with cheese and the aburi salmon rice bowl. If you still have some space, their loaded bento is absolutely worth devouring
