I like spicy ramen and the spicy ramen in here are certainly not that spicy. Having said that I do love the noodles and egg here and the tangy soup w pork and fish is pretty darn good. If I don't feel like a spicy ramen I would certainly come here rather than Hakata
Personally i believe this place is a must go place for japanese ramen craving ppl! So far i found it the best in Melbourne. When tsukemen was available (ramen with dipping sauce), i reli went there a lot to dine out there- sadly it is not available yet :(
My favourite is donkotsu original. My hub likes godfire level 2. :)
The Ramen and Gyoza here are amazing! My favourite place to eat when I go into the city. The customer service here is great also very welcoming and helpful! Would recommend.
Good ramen stop. The tonkotsu - pork broth ramen is creamy, rich & flavoursome. Maybe more chashu would be better, I added an egg for $2. I don't usually like thin noodles but it is actually quite light & nice. Some of us went for extra serving of noodles but I think their portion size is spot on for me. The tsukemen - dipping noodles are much thicker but I prefer my ramen hot.
I've never had the ramen before, but their new lunch special dons at $8.80 is what drew me in; an extra $2 gets you a set with miso soup, chawanmushi (savoury egg custard dish), yellow radish, a salad and two watermelon slices and an orange slice (that's a lot!). The kakuni don is seriously tasty, very authentic and great portions at a reasonable price. They earned themselves a new regular with this new menu; I highly recommend this set for a very satisfying lunch!
Tis the season to slurpppppp away. The wintery cold lends itself to perfect soupy noodle weather and one of my favourite kind to tuck into is ramen. With some of my fondest ramen memories taking place in Japan, I’m always excited for the opening of a ramen eatery with roots in Japan. Along came Ramen Bankara; a ramen franchise with over 30 locations in Japan and has gone on to open up stores in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and now Australia.
Definitely do the spicy chuka soba premium! Had it a couple times and always so satisfied! The braise pork is just the best part of this place! Had tried other broth but it was too heavy and oily so I always just go for the spicy chuka. It's awesome!
Really good ramen, friendly atmosphere, good prices. Recommended
I've done a review of this place before. I was disappointed at their tonkotsu ramen. This time i've decided to order the premium "bankara" (shoyu) ramen. To my surprise, this is actually good. The broth is thick and amazing with a hint of sweetness. Unfortunately the noodle feels like instant ramen. And the chasiu / kakuni isn't soft enough. But this definitely worth another visit for the shoyu broth.
I've been here several times for the good ramen and reasonable price. The soup is delicious from which you can taste the time spent on it. The tofu is also very nice, and there is four kinds of topping on it. Very $20 you spent can be exchanged to one credit, and u can get free dishes according to how much credit u have.
I have been to both the Swanston street and Doncaster branches and decided to give this one a try. By far, this branch is better than the Swanston street one with better service and tastier Tsukemen. I ordered the usual which was Tsukemen with extra noodles and Menma/Bamboo Shoot salad. The food came out quick and the service was good.
Really enjoy the gyoza there!Very crispy and juciy. My fav. gyoza around melbourne CBD.
Highly recommand!
Also tried their ramen with dipping souce. Taste nice.
The staffs were nice and the environment was ok.
I had their premium Bankara ramen, gyoza and sesame ice cream. The highlight was the soup, which was packed with flavour. The gyoza was nice too as well as the sesame ice cream. The presentation of the food was under par compared to other ramen bars I have been to and the pork not as soft. I also found the ramen quite expensive and seating arrangements cramped, particularly if you have to share a table with a stranger. Glad I had a good dining companion!
Saw this new ramen place in the city the other day. So I want to try it out. The ramen is delicious and the staff is quite friendly. Though the ordering system is a bit confusing but we get all the food and they're all very yummy. Will definitely o back again
Ramen is good... We tried two different soup bases... Both were good but for close to $20 each they weren't that amazing. I'd have the standard if I go again... Chashu was unbelievably thin, which seems to be a theme in Australian ramen.
Staff need training and a more service oriented approach, surprising in that the staff who were on this evening were all actually Japanese.
So it's expensive but it's a good representation of Japanese Ramen.
I'm very surprised by the amount of negativity placed on this restaurant. It's authentic and you can tell there is passion in this restaurant and love in their dishes.
I had the Classic Bankara and as noted in the menu it is a hybrid of Ramen. It's called Sanjo Ramen ( a type) which is one of the most unhealthy Ramen's and comes from a part of Japan which has really cold temperatures. Therefore purposely has a obscene amount of fat. It is not there because the chefs are inconsiderate in their art of cooking. The fat and the both is meant to combine to give it a better depth of flavour.
You will find this dish too oily for your particular tasting if you're a light eater, picky and someone who eats with their eyes. So I don't recommend it. You might want to eat Hakata style instead which has a clearer broth.
This dish was personally amazing. The complete flavour of the dish was not bland and not too salty either. The noodles was tasty and very light in the stomach relative to hakata ramen style. It doesn't leave you feeling too full but very content. The meat was tender and cut perfectly to perfection. You will find in the dish there is bamboo shoots and to my surprise was a little spicy. However, it helped refresh my taste buds for every slurp I had of the soup.
I personally don't like eating egg as a whole. However my friend enjoyed it as it was very well seasoned.
The pricing is considered expensive, however, I believe there is a stigma around noodle dishes should be cheap. Therefore I personally believe for the quality and authenticity placed in this dish the pricing is reasonable.
For the price to add on extras, I think it could be better for the bamboo shoots and shredded black fungus. The prices for the other add on's particularly cha shu and egg is reasonable to me. Not many people will agree with me..but you are paying for the quality.
The portions may not satisfy you if you're a large eater. I personally thought the portions were correct for the amount you should be eating. I felt content afterwards.
Service was friendly and relatively fast. The girls often make sure you have water and pour it for you. You might want to grab one of their coupon cards on the way out if you like this place!
As for the atmosphere, it feels very Japan. And I give really huge credit to that because there has been too many Japanese restaurants taken over by Chinese people and the place loses its heart and origin.
As for cutlery ( yes cutlery, I'm very particular about these things), I did not like their spoon choice.
It's a clean place and you can see the chefs making your noodles if you are seated near the windows.
Food: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5 ( -1.5 because there isn't a long interaction with the waiters to explain their dishes and ensure their customers enjoyed their meal or help them make their choice)
Ambiance: 4/5
So, last time I went to The Grand BBQ, I noticed that China Bar was no longer there and in its place is this new Ramen store. Melbourne has recently had a large number of ramen stores open up and this is one of the latest.
The basic ramen is just a bit more than $13, however, the premium ramen is nothing to cough at, being $20! The difference is the egg (which admittedly has been cooked to perfection), the extra meat and larger serve of ramen I think.
The one I got was the stores namesake, Bankara, and is the style of the soup base. Made from fatty pork back, the broth was very very tasty. The ramen also had a nice texture and the pork was exquisite (if a little fatty, but it's expected to be!)
Cute ramen shop in Target Centre CBD, easy to find. Quick and friendly service. Broth is rich and tasty. Generous portions. Would like to return to try the rice dishes and the octopus balls!
Lovely ramen here. Lovely waiters. A little more pricey than your usual ramen but will come back here again. And the green tea ice cream is good
I feel a salesperson comparing my reviews to the others currently on here for his relatively new place, but I absolutely love this place.
The ramen is expensive but the flavours are great. They're strong and the ramen is just the right texture. I can see how some would find it overly salty especially alongside the pork belly that's almost liked a cured meat - but I think it works well. I've been here multiple times just to confirm
That I'm not crazy and have enjoyed each item I've had (my favourite being the cold ramen with the fantastic dipping sauce).
That combined with the friendly staff make it one of My favourite ramen places in the cbd
Ps: the pork fat layered soup does indeed exist but I really enjoyed it!
