A bustling izakaya on bourke street always fully packed. Decided to finally visit after passing by it multiple times. Spacious inside but didn't like how tables were so close to each other. However, service was friendly and prompt - but a bit slow due to lack of staff.
We ordered Maedaya Chips ($5.5), Momo Yakitori ($12), Poke Salad ($10), and a jug of lemon Shochu-Highball also known as Chuhai ($20). My favourite was Momo Yakitori. I wouldn't say it was exactly authentic but they were the freshest and juiciest grilled chicken thighs I've ever had. Each skewer had different flavours: garlic, chili, curry, spicy miso, and herb salt - they all tasted great. Maedaya Chips was also delicious with Ebisu soy sauce sprayed on top finished off with Aonori - savoury with umami twist. We also tried lemon chuhai which was refreshing with a citric kick - didn't taste like alcohol at all! Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience. Will definitely visit again in the near future.
I always go back for assorted vegetable tempura udon, it’s a must have along with the karaage
YUMMMMMM!! Loved the menu variety and every dish was so delicious. Stand out dishes were the tempura and pork belly skewers. Was too busy eating to take anymore photos...
It's a small compact place, but can accommodate good number of people. (No room for privacy).
Food was good and delicious.
Kharage chicken was the best and it was really delicious.
Skewers were good too with a different blend of spices.
Hot pot udon was good and tasty. We tried it first time, it was good but I would have preferred a little Spicer or with little salt.
Peas dish was turn off.
Overall a good place.
Before I forget to mention the tap beer served was also great.
Now I'm not a fan of soupy dishes, but I loved the udon here and would come back any day of the week.
Price is so reasonable, in face very cheap, I had the yasai tempura udon which consisted of a hearty bowl of udon with a generous serving of vegetable tempura.
The tempura soaked in the soup with the perfectly cooked noodles was a match made in heaven.
Would come here for lunch any day of the week.
Service could be improved slightly, took a while to get their attention but nonetheless everyone was very friendly.
4/5 to be updated when I get to try more items on their menu!
Decided to head over to Udon Izakaya Maedaya for dinner on a Saturday night. We arrived at 5pm so it wasn’t busy and we were seated immediately, although by the time we left the place was packed.
We started off with drinks which are available on Zomato Gold 2+2. We had the Umeshu and the Lemon Chu-High. I loved the Umeshu which was light, sweet and tart. The lemon one was very refreshing like lemonade.
For food, we started off with the Chicken Karaage with Sweet Soy Sauce which was delicious. The Karaage was so juicy and tender, whilst still being crispy on the outside. Loved the mayo and sweet soy sauce combination. The Karaage pieces are quite big too.
The Gyoza here was absolutely delicious, probably one of the best Gyoza I’ve had. The skin was super thin and the perfect texture. The filling was very juicy and tender, and had so much flavour. Definitely a must try.
The Momo Yaki Skewers were really delicious too. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside (although the Karaage was slightly juicier and more tender). I loved the different powders/sauces which added a subtle flavour to each skewer.
The Signature Yasai Tempura Udon (hot) was very impressive. The tempura is cooked very well - crispy, light, and served with matcha salt. Loved the different varieties of veggies. The udon was very refreshing and light too in the simple dashi broth.
The star of the night was the Nabeyaki Udon. Served on a table cooked, you can enjoy it while it’s piping hot. The flavour of the broth was amazing, whilst still being light and not overly salty. The udon texture was perfect.
This restaurant is so cosy and I love the authentic Izakaya vibes. This place is perfect for a delicious and affordable meal. Would definitely recommend checking it out!
I love this place! It's an authentic Japanese izakaya with great food, awesome service and cool atmosphere. The skewers are by far my favourite. They are so delicious!!
Nice traditional Japanese dining interior. Welcoming staff and relaxed ambiance but the place is quite cramped and hot.
Chips extremely crisp with spicy seasoning. A recommended and same goes with the squid that is perfectly paired with the kewpie mayo.
The pork belly yakitori has the most tender meat with a soft fatty fat. The 5 skewers are individually seasoned and great for sharing.
The tempura veggies with udon is well valued. A generous amount of udon and crisp vegetables which are sourced locally. The hotpot is also great whether eaten on its own or shared though there was a lack of mushroom and meat.
great value lunch! it’s a small place so expect to wait for a table at peak times. i highly recommend the udon.
Enjoyed their cold Udon noodles when it was so hot weather. The restaurant was quite busy but the line was moving quickly.
- Yasai Tempura Udon ☆☆☆☆
Delicious crunchy tempura with well flavored Udon noodles and good price. Staff were friendly, but seemed to be busy. I would come back to eat Tempura again.
I came here for a light bite at a weird time between lunch and dinner so the dishes I'd seen on the menu were no longer available or not veggie. (Note to vegetarians, all the udons are served in meat or fish broth.) I settled on the tofu salad which was not the best I've had, but pretty good and cheap and did the job of holding me over til dinner. The space is a bit cramped but that adds the izakaya feel. Probably best for dining with a group and getting lots of little bites and drinks to share.
Chewy udon noodles with a delicious broth! Perfect on a cold winters night. Highly recommend the beef, tempura and the hot pot udon.
This place is very nicely decorated with a variety of Japanese sake by the wall for an easy pour, especially convenient if you go for the all you can drink sake for 90mins! If the place is full, put down your name and mobile number with the staff and wait outside until they give you a ring. Once you’re in and seated, it’s a very tight seating layout with the already small table and stool, often very close to the next table and you even have to pull your chair in for the staff to squeeze through to reach the inner tables. They also offer a basket for you to put your stuff in it to leave it below your table knowing the tight seating, which is quite thoughtful.
Maedaya is an all time fave of mine, so when I saw they had opened Udon Izakaya Maedaya I was very eager to try it. The menu is more limited and seems to focus more on alcohol and small dishes, as well as maining in Udon. The tables are very small and square shaped so be careful when ordering many dishes! They offer you a basket to put your belongings in.
Good value for price and friendly service!
My friend and I had the beef udon and tempura prawn cold udon.
Udon is chewy and soft, soup was also the right amount of salty. 💖
Given how much I am a fan of Japanese udon noodles, it really is quite surprising that it took me so long to get around to visiting Udon Izakaya Maedaya. Just over a year since its opening in fact, but I suppose better late than never. What’s not surprising however is that I’ve since squeezed in a second visit; visit number one took place a few weeks ago prior to our second round of The Cursed Child, and the second only last week.
Points for: atmosphere, cheap eats
Udon Izakaya Maedaya has modelled their space with a proper Izakaya feel.
It's bustling - there's an open kitchen, counter seating and separate tables, with signs, poster ads, and sake everywhere.
Huge variety of items to choose from, with lots of specials and good prices.
Tempura Udon – the tempura was crisp and the hot udon was smooth and warming.
Beef Udon - I could see them warming up the ceramic bowl with hot water, while the udon and beef were cooking separately.
The thinly shaved beef is sauteed in a pan with a sweet soy sauce and placed on top of the udon and dashi stock.
It was a kombu dashi and I could definitely taste the kombu, and when you mix the beef and sauce up, it becomes a sweet broth.
The udon itself is (for me), a little overdone, quite soft on the chew.
Nevertheless, it's a great place for a casual meal or snack over some cheap draught beer.
Delicious and authentic Japanese Udon restaurant in the city! Great atmosphere, it feels like you've stepped into Japan!
🔆LOCATION🔆
Udon Izakaya Maedaya is situated in Bourke Street, near the corner of Russell Street next to McDonald's.
From the outside of the restaurant it is very welcoming decor beckons you to enter.
Once you're inside, staff warmly greets you and seats you promptly!
There are hangers against the wall for customers to hang their coats, and staff will bring you a basket so you can place your bags and belongings inside. For bigger coats, they have a metal rack with coat hangers for use as well.
On the right hand side of the restaurant there is the kitchen, and wooden bench seating for 1 or 2 people. Up the top there are large black wooden plaques with listing of food menu items.
There restaurant is a pretty decent size (in Australia) and it does have the typical Japanese izakaya feel ( a bar that serves snacks with alcoholic drink). They have a list of their speciality drinks and towards the back of the restaurant there are large bottles against the wall with dispensers.
🔆SERVICE🔆
The most warm and friendly service ever from all the staff at Udon Izakaya Maedaya. They are very helpful and clear the table promptly. Refill water in our glass quite often and is always available for customers assistance.
Food is made ever so efficiently. Every time I come here, even when its very packed or when its quiet, the service is the same! Very impressed.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
I've been here many times, but will review on most recent visit and food that was ordered.
Karaage Chicken Shoyu (4 pieces), $8.80
Niku (sliced beef) Udon, $8.90
Spicy Miso Udon, $16.50
Tonkotsu Tonyu Udon, $12.00
🔆VERDICT🔆
Seriously the BEST ever Karaage chicken! Well worth the price. The chicken is soo tender and juicy and packed with flavour and the batter is light and crispy. The size of the chicken peices are very decent size, I always order this when I visit.
My sister loves the Spicy Miso Udon, her favourite. This dish comes in a hot pot, along with its own little burner. The hot pot is so big its actually suitable for 2 people. But I cant eat spicy so its always up to her to eat as much as she can from it. For the price you pay, $16.50 its a really good price. There is thick peices of pork which is very tender, cabbage, tofu, mushrooms.
For a simple lunch meal I would always order the Niku Udon, The sliced beef is very tender and there is quite a good amount of beef with the udon! I think $8.90 is such a good value for money. plus I order with my favourite Karaage chicken and thats a meal.
I love the Tonkotsu Tonyu Udon. Tonyu is Soy Milk. It is not as bad as it sounds like. It is very light in flavour and is a really nice alternative to the standard heavy pork broth. Yum yum!!
Make sure you go and put your name down on Udon Izakaya Maedaya's list (inside!). We almost missed out on this 🥺.
Ordered:
🍜 Yasai Tempura Udon (hot): 12 tempura vegetables with soup, with their original recipe and Kyushu specialty sweet soy sauce. The dashi is a special soup made with a mix of sardines, mackerel, bonito, horse mackerel and kelp ($12.50)
🥙 Tofu Bao burger ($5.50)
Review:
Seriously like the Yasai Tempura Udon would be more than filling. With 12 deliciously lightly battered vegetables and a really interesting green salt - it felt like a clean dish with a light balance of flavours. I really really enjoyed this dish and look forward to coming back to get it.
The tofu bao was ok. Nothing amazing like the udon but it was still fun to try.
Tables were a little squishy, but I know my friend with his family were able to squeeze their 8 month baby with them. Unsure how, but Udon Izakaya Maedaya were able to make that work! We were missing a few condiments on our table (we figured because we split from the main table) but it was no fuss anyway. Food was just that great!
Never tasted udon this good..
Food: Udon Yasai (assorted veg tempura)
The broth is so clear but so good !! The greentea salt complemented well with the veg tempura !! Feeling so full from that big bowl of udon veg tempura and it only cost $12.80..
Cheese udon was amazing. Definitely worth to try their Umeshu and sushi platter. This is a place that I will always come back for.
I have been to this place for the first time with my friends and the staff is really friendly. They have explained the dishes and helped us make a choice. The food was amazing and affordable. I would definitely come here again.cheers to you guys!
Couldn’t believe the great prices for the food! $8.90 for a beef udon and it was more than enough - great value at delicious! The winner though was the Wagyu bao - sooo good and again huge! The venue is small and loud with uncomfortable seats, but you can’t expect more! The Mocktail was miniature though, don’t bother with that!
A little shop tucked away on Russell Street serving up one of the best udon in town! And for a good price too! My favourite is the yasai udon - udon with assorted vegetable tempura on the side and toppings (seaweed and Katsuobushi/bonito flakes). I also love that they are served separately from the udon and broth so you can eat them as you go and they aren’t soggy!
5 for the food, 3 for the service, 4/5 in general
In love with the decor from the moment we stepped in the door, as it truly reminded me of the late-night dine-out experience in Tokyo.
THE CHICKEN SKEWER - OMG what can I say, wrapped with flavour, so juicy with every bite and they were all coated with different flavour. Affordable pricing ($12 for 5), great with beer.
Sashimi, tempura and agedashi tofu were all well-done, fresh and tasty. The umeshu choya went well with all the dishes.
The down factor was the service. The shop was super busy when we went and we were served by an unhappy waitress who was blackface throughout the period. No smile or conversation. In a rush to clean away all our dishes.
Apart from that, a great place for some drinks and authentic Japanese tapas.
Itadakimasu!
Nothing better than a nice hot bowl of udon on a cold winter's night in Melbourne. We both had a craving for something warm and comforting and when we saw the mini line outside of this place, one look at each other and we both knew what was up. Stepping inside, you'll be welcomed with a hearty Japanese greeting - "Irrashaimaseeee!~" by the staff and it feels like you're right in Japan. With local japanese folks in every corner of the restaurant, you know for sure this restaurant is authentic. Highly recommended for all sorts of Japanese alcoholic drinks, accompanied by delicious izakaya dishes.
We ordered the:
- Takoyaki ⭐⭐⭐
- Tonkotsu Tonyu Udon ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Miso Nikomi Udon ⭐⭐⭐⭐
*Highlight*
The udon in the Miso Nikomi Udon was to die for. So soft and chewy, just how you would imagine it. Combine that with a flavourful broth, who could say no!? It came in its own hot pot where the lady would flame a little candle underneath it to keep it bubbling. The depth of flavour in that hotpot udon bowl literally tastes you on a journey (pun intended). You taste all of the ingredients and it just works so well together.
Thanks for a great Japanese cuisine experience Udon Izakaya Maedaya 🥂
In the CBD, this place is reasonably busy, I had seen it many times, but this was the first time i got to try.
Environment 3.5
It's small and a little cluttered, but the look feels very retro Japan. The menu did not have very descriptive english information, so after ordering we had to confirm it was chicken, lol
Service 5
Quick to greet and seat. They gave water and were polite.
Flavour 5
I was expecting ramen but they are udon which I like, I recommend the udon as it was delicious
Value for money 3
They are higher cost than some others, but it was worth it, $81 to have dinner for four.
Ordered the beef Udon, karaage and tamago Udon and special fries. The noodles were great and perfect for cold weather, but the fries were just average sprinkled with chilli flakes and nori 🙂 looking forward to going back for dinner soon!
We loved 😍
The ambience of this place really took me back to japan!
We ordered chilli udon and a normal one which came in a little pot with a candle to heat it up.
They had bold combinations such as the carbonara udon which we will definitely come back to try !
I stopped by here for dinner on a weekday. I tried the yasai (12 veg) tempura udon. The udon was lovely, broth really flavourful yet light. The tempura was cooked well with the batter being light and crispy. I really enjoyed the green dipping salt that came with the tempura too. Good udon and I wouldn't mind returning.
The tempura udon broth was one of the lightest broths I’ve ever had! I could’ve drunk the whole bowl of straight broth it was that good. The noodles were also the perfect texture- with the perfect amount of chewiness 😍
The fried chicken was also super crispy and the soy flavour on the coating was delicious.
Everything is such an affordable price , I’ll definitely be back
(But probably not on Friday nights and at a less busy time)
Soooooo yummmmm! Was craving some udon noodles and say this place was cheap and had good ratings. Turned up at 7 and asked to be put on a waiting list, but because I was a traveller I didn’t have a number for them to contact so they told us to come back in 20 and they’ll reserve us a seat. The most friendliest staff I’ve met. Btw YOU HAVE TO GET THE GYOZA DUMPLINGS!
Based on the pork gyozas alone, it totally deserved a 5/5! This is by far the BEST gyozas I've had in Melbourne. I didn't expect this dish to be the highlight of the restaurant and they totally need to advertise it more!
It's the most juiciest and plumped gyoza ever! It was like a xiao long bao with soup but it is gyoza, which means there is a crispy pan fried base on the bottom as well! I totally scoffed this down in a few seconds! I have had too many flat and dry gyozas before and never have I had something like this!
I will be back to try the other dishes!!
Edit- tried more dishes let's just say stick to the gyozas.
Fresh produce really enhances the quality of food. I had the beef kale salad the other day and I really loved it. The beef was lean, juicy, tender, and tasty.
From start to finish, this place really reminded me of my time in Tokyo. The service was friendly, the decor was reminiscent of those tiny eateries in Tokyo and the food was exceptional. They even have those baskets for us to put our bags in - how considerate!
The Yassai Tempura Udon was delicious. The matcha salt went superbly well with the vegetable tempura. Prices were very reasonable.
So if you want to be swept away to Japan just for an hour or two, come visit this restaurant!
My timetable doesn’t really fit in this place’s opening hours at all until one day I try to visit. I had the kale salad with wagyu beef. I loved every bit of this plate, especially the tender juicy beef slices
Rated 3.5
Nice atmosphere, the staff greet everyone when they come in. Came here for lunch and ordered the Beef Udon. It was just above average, the soup was nice and sweet and the portion size was ok. For $9.90 though it was a good value.
*They have so many menus.....
Wow, wow wow! Having bookmarked this place a while ago I finally managed to swing by and try the food.
My friend and I ordered a number of different dishes, they were all fantastic. The stand outs for me were the spicy miso udon hot pot, wagu bao and the double butakushi - holy moly - outstanding!! The flavours in these dishes were so good and the wagu bao was huge! Great ingredients used in all the dishes we had, I really can't speak highly enough.
We also ordered the fried chicken, however the waitress didn't add this to the order, I will have to try this next time.
We washed this down with a Kirin beer, yum yum yum. Can't wait to go back.
the ramen is very delicious and the serve is good, last time i go with my friend and we enjoy the name. There was only one lunch menu, so it was limited. The tonkotsu udon I ordered took a while (15-20mins), I had to ask them if it's coming out. I expected it to be quicker as udon seemed to me a "japanese fast food". Same goes for my sister's meal.
good.
We visited for an early dinner on Thursday night and were glad we did as it was happy hour! Service was prompt and polite, and the food was good. The shoyu karage and poke salad were tasty. The five skewers dish was okay though I'd probably order another dish when I return.
This place caught my eyes on a Friday night, while I was looking for a place to have a quick and light dinner at 10pm at night. And honestly, there was no regrets at all.
The service was great, super friendly staff and accommodating. I ordered a basic Kitsune Udon and a Wagyu Beef Bao. No lies, the wagyu beef was to die for! So soft and it literally fell apart. Was so delicious! The udon on the other hand was also full of flavour! And the noodles itself was cooked to perfection - not too firm or over cooked. The Matcha Yuzu Soda was very different - I've never tried something like that before. So good!
Next time I'm back in Melbourne - I am 110% coming back for more!! Very authentic here. And the price range isn't anything outrageous either!
The service was fast and the food taste amazing. The proportions were very good for the price! There was a bit of a wait through so I recommend going earlier or booking? You must try the drinks here as well, they are very refreshing and go well with the food.
Great japas if you want to have dinner and also perfect if you want to sit down and drink alcohols while nibbling on snacks. They have an extensive range of sakes in stock and you can get to taste different sakes as they offer smaller bottles to taste. I tried the whiskey sour and it is a refreshing and very easy to drink so be careful! Food are pretty good for japas and sizes are generous. The chilli edamame and chicken nanban is recommended.
Tried this new Izakaya that recently opened up along Bourke street.. the decor that was basic and it had a bit of an industrial feel to the place, the space was small too.. the options of food was a bit limited too but the food for definitely tasty...
It was my first time eating udon with veggies tempura, it was quite good. Alot of different vegetables choices. They are filling as well. I will be back soon.
Walked passed this shop today and decided to get some udon noodle. Best tasting udon so far in Melbourne and the carbonara udon was delicious to bad it’s quiet small but the prawn tempura dish was huge. Happy hour beer 5$ not bad also
Overall, this is a great place to have a quick udon meal if you don't mind the hustle and bustle in a small restaurant that serves authentic Japanese food at great value. The tempura udon was beautifully presented, broth was delicious and the flavours and texture of udon was outstanding.

After craving some authentic Japanese street food, we decided to head to this newly opened bar restaurant. Staff were very friendly and full of smiles.
The atmosphere of the place was very cosy, with many Japanese and locals chatting about, almost making it feel like I was in the streets of Tokyo.
We ordered many sides with the main dish being the Dakgalbj udon. For someone who can stand spice and dating a spice intolerant guy, this was bearable for both of us. It was full of sweetness from the sauce yet saltiness from the cheese - a perfect harmony.
Most of the chicken we had in the udon and skewers were soft and juicy.
Skewers were amazing. All the same chicken but each flavoured with a unique taste that was addicting: Chilli powder, Spicy miso, curry, chicken salt and another. Definitely recommend.
The boiled egg tempura is a must get here. The soft yolk inside and the crispy texture of the coating worked well together. Full of umami flavour.
We also ordered the Japanese street food staples: Takoyaki and Okonomyaki:
Takoyaki was bouncy and the octopus inside was so juicy. The mayo and brown sauce and wasabi powder on top really left me asking for more. The Okonomyaki was amazing as well, with the hint of cheese oozing out and making an astonishing hit on the pallet. The vegetables, potato had so much flavour that made my visit really worth.
Possible unpopular opinion: I have had better with the coating being a bit crispier in Japan, but service here is exceptionally fast which was reasonable. Price was so worth it for its quality and fresh produce from Queen Victoria Market.
Will come back to try their udon on a warmer day.
Time: Sunday for dinner. Had to wait for 10 minutes.
Atmosphere: 4.5 - Seat for 20-30 people with really nice Japanese style.
Services: 4.6 - friendly staff.
Food/drink: 4.8 - Karaage chicken, Yasai Tempura Udon (12 vegetables), Hot Pot Udon (classic dish in Japan). All are fabulously delicious, perfect taste. Try happened beer as well.
Back again: definitely, highly recommended.
Amazing little place. We had the lime udon cold (so good for a hot summers day, where it was 38degrees!). The soymilk udon was just as enjoyable! Very reasonable prices, easily accessible! Will come again!
A traditional Japanese restaurant in the bustling Bourke Street. They had a variety of different udon as well as small dishes.
I had the cheese dakkalbi udon, and though it did sound filling (cheeseee) it was actually a good amount and it did not make me feel too bloated. Their udon is delicious and service was pretty quick.
Friendly japanese waiters made the experience a plus to the Japanese restaurant environment. (You get what I mean) I'll definitely come back and try a different udon as well as some of their small eats :) I'm hungry just thinking about it!
One thing to note, we came on a Saturday night at around 7:30pm, and we were on the waitlist (they don't do bookings unfortunately) for about an hour. So if you were thinking of coming down during the weekends, my advice is to head there early and have your name on the list (if there is one) so you don't have to wait too long. Hopefully!
Food 3/5
service 5/5

My favorite Japanese restaurant style and the service is very good. BUT THE food is normal. Tempura is too dry and hard. The meat has too much fat even the soup is sweet and tasty. Maybe here is the place that drinks a few cups.
So happy to have such a great udon Izakaya in Melbourne cbd . Authentic Osaka style deep fried vege and meat. Happy hour is good value ( 400ml Kirin plus edamame ) Cheese spicy udon is my favourite !
A new Japanese eatery in Melbourne city was Udon Izakaya Maedaya, specialising in udon but they also served fried chicken, sushi, bao, and salad. We tried their vegetable tempura udon and Niku (beef) udon with a side of seaweed-seasoned potato/sweet potato ‘Maedaya’ chips. The noodle had a nice firm texture, and the soup was very flavourful. The tempura that came with the udon was a bit bland, however, but much better when dipped in the soup. Overall the meals were very good value, the staff were friendly, and the venue was modern and cozy. Highly recommend.
4.5/5!!!! came here for early dinner and had their hotpot udon since hotpot only available for dinner.
Considering between miso nikomi udon and nabe yaki udon and the staff recommend the miso nikomi so i had that one. The broth is really tasty and nice~ rich in flavour too :) lot of chicken meat as well!!
Updated review: DINNER (4.5/5)
Food:
- Momo yaki skewers: I appreciated the five different flavours/spices they have here. Some of them were quite interesting and tasty. I did find the spicy miso flavour to be a little bit too strong, and it got onto the skewer next to it and they both tasted the same afterward (⋟﹏⋞). The chicken was juicy and tender though.
- Nabe yaki udon: great dish to share. Had tones of quality toppings: chicken, tempura prawns, eggs and veggies. The broth was incredible, sweet, light and fragrant. The udon was bouncy, chewy, just how I like it. The only thing is I wish they put more veggies in because there wasn't much of it.
- Aburi salmon roll: the first thing I noticed was how creamy and eggy this one is due to the Japanese mayo. There was a good amount of salmon. Not a big fan of imitation crab but I didn't mind it in this one. Overall a very filling dish to share.
- I'll definitely order kushiage next time as they looked amazing as well.
Price: pretty cheap for the amount and quality of the food.
Service and ambience: same as below.
LUNCH (4/5)
Food:
- Yasai tempura udon: a variety of tempura veggie, very pleasant but as I got to the end of the meal it was a little heavy (cuz it's fried food after all). The udon was so good though. The broth was everything and the udon was bouncy and yummy. I'm not an udon fan but the udon here is very tasty
- Takoyaki: creamy mayo + smokey bonito = make everything good so I won't comment on this very much as it wasn't the main dish/the restaurant's specialty anyway
Price: very cheap and quality lunch
Service: attentive, smiley and friendly staff, the food took a while to arrive but it's reasonable since it's tempura and you'd want it hot and freshly fried
Ambience: a little cramped but very nice/casual bar area, simple Japanese deco, lovely little touches
Will come back to try dinner because the menu seems more extensive
The cheese udon solve the ultimate problem when my roommate want Japanese but I want Korean.
Tastes great! but the amount was a bit lessss...
The lemon chuhai was homemade and hmmm special~ worth a try~
I ordered the lunch special that came with a matcha lemonade. The food was yummy! The karaage chicken was crispy and there was a generous amount of chicken in the bowl although the serving looks small. The matcha lemonade was refreshing.
There are limited tables so you may have to queue during the peak lunch time hour.
Great Udon. As expected the Udon had beautiful bouncy noodles and a clean and sweet broth. The veggie tempura was delicious and the sake selection was amazing. Don't be scared to go for the $35 unlimited sake, you don't have to drink everything but it is more bang for your buck.
waited about 10mins for the first dish to be served which wasn’t too bad. for sides we ordered salmon sashimi and takoyaki. portions were good and salmon was rather fresh. for mains we got the niku (beef) udon and assorted tempura udon. the soup for the niku udon was elite and the udon was cooked well in good portions. tempura came out hot and good. one bad point would be that there was a lot of people walking around and tables are quite close together. felt like someone was about to knock into me a couple times. food was also decently priced. would come again!
If you want amazing udon, this is the place to be. We tried the nabeyaki hotpot udon and it was absolutely amazing. The takoyaki was also fantastic. Food was served really quickly as well. Added 2 to 3 side dishes and we had a meal for 3. Prices are super affordable, the only downside is that they are usually very busy and therefore a long queue outside to get in. Will definitely come back for more!
Very affordable price for the bowl of noodle 🍜 you’re getting! We also ordered the chicken teppanyaki skewer? Not too bad. Didn’t order any drinks that night but the udon broth was 💯, queue was okay (about 10-15mins wait since we arrived about 5.45-6PM)
Not much authentic Japanese izakaya with cute Japanese decorations and interior like these. Got the 🍲🍜 Suki Nabe Udon Hot Pot. The udon noodles were the perfect texture, broth tasty, and came with tempura prawns, some veggies, and mushroom.
We also ordered the 🍙 Grill Onigiri Balls—the perfect appearance with the most beautiful golden brown color but sadly there was so filling though.
Overall, great for its price. They have an all you can drink 🍶 sake option as well if you love to drink!
A surprise gem! Always busy so be prepared to queue for a table. Lovely ambience. Great menu selection at very reasonable prices. Everything we had was excellent. Can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend.
This is a genuine Japanese restaurant staffed by a mainly Japanese crew. Ordered all three of the nabe udon in the menu. The standard one was the tastiest with the spicy miso coming a close second. The udon was firm and equivalent to the ones you find in Japan. Tried only one side dish, the kaarage chicken which was the most popular and came highly recommended. While it was well fried, the meat was below my expectations. I could be wrong but it tasted like it was frozen. Nevertheless, the restaurant overall was excellent and provided a taste of Japanese food outside Japan.
