Ordered a quick office lunch - a pork bulgogi bowl and it was oh so delicious! The takeaway pack came with kimchi and chilli sauce and it was amazing too. Loved the flavour of the pork slices paired with onion went really well with the rice. The mushroom, pickled cucumber and carrot could have tasted better, but all in all it was a great quick meal.
Best Deeokbokki in town!
Staff are always lovely and flavours are always consistent 💕
First time checking out this Korean street food restaurant along hardware lane in the cbd! I don’t have Korean food very often so many of the dishes on the menu were new to me and I let me friends do the ordering. We had fried dumplings, kimchi pancake, chicken bulgogi, steamed rice and noodle broth soup with chicken on the bone. All of the flavours were really strong, a bit spicy and delicious. Great place to come with friends and share multiple dishes so you can try a bit of everything.
I love any cuisine street foods. Highly recommended the kimbap, rice cakes, fried chickens, soups. The service is good. Loved the outdoor seating. Super affordable
Very busy, so either get there early or you'll need to wait but not for too long. Food came out relatively quick. Food was absolutely delish! We had the pork mandoo, kimchi pancake (maybe a bit too thick), feel fried squid leg (A MUST HAVE!!) and soy pork (the sauce was amazing especially enjoyed with some rice)! Definitely will come back to try other dishes!
Great meal and service - fantastic range of Korean meals that were value for money. Only missing a star due to our table being a bit wobbly which was a concern due to the hotplate- easily fixed and didnt stop us from enjoying the meal
Food was actually pretty nice! The rice cakes with cheese were amazing. The vegetarian kimbap was a little dry but nevertheless Would definitely come back
I’ve been here twice.
Love the ambience. The store set-up gave off a Korean vibe. The spacing was quite small but could be extended to the street. I like that they just casually added table and seats for us on the street.
Service was prompt and accommodating.
We ordered Ddeokbokki, Kimchi tofu stew (big enough for 2), chive pancake and fried chicken.
Food was quite standard, just like other decent Korean places but very good value for the portion (Ddeokbokki was only $10). I’ve never tried but heard from my friend that their chicken feet was not bad too.
Vego friendly which was a bonus. Will definitely come back.

Sitting in this restaurant feels like we are in Korea. The decoration gives a Korean vibe. Our favourite dish jjim dak stew. We also really like the spicy chicken with cheese. It is extremely spicy though, so its not for the weak heartes.
Great Staff !
Even though they ran out of Rice (what a bummer), but they were polite enough to suggest other options on the menu.
Crowd was rather light being a Saturday evening, but I guess it’s because other popular places overshadow this newer sibling.
Food :-
1) Spicy Pork - served a bit lukewarm (though on a sizzler plate - extremely surprising!!), the portion was adequate and the spice level was ok. But there was a bit of powdery taste to the Pork which obviously came off the spice paste.
2) Pan Fried Gyoza - presentation and portion size was great but they lacked flavour and punch. The small salad was fresh and dressed well.
Overall, I was expecting the food to deliver home the promise of a great “hole-in-the-wall” experience but unfortunately that did not happen.
Hence, only a generous 3.5/5 !
Ordered a beef bibimbap for lunch. I didn’t expect too much for a quick lunch like this, but it was pretty good! I love its Korean style chili paste particularly. I am not a fan of spicy food and seldom have it. But their chili paste was really good! Had it mixed with the rice and veggies and tasted awesome. Love it.
I love how this restaurant is decorated. It looks like they serve street foods on the outside but there are a couple of tables and chairs inside. What I love about their food is the cheap price with a decent portion.
Their foods are a bit spicy though so be careful for non-spicy eaters. However, i love it! Especially if they are eaten with the seaweed rice balls!
After making an online booking for a popular Korean resturant in the city and arriving to find them closed I began the search far too late in the night for an alternative. I called another favorite Korean restaurant and the kitchen was closing already. It was not looking good until I walked past Ohsso in Hardware Lane. (Not to be confused with Ohsso in Glen Waverly. Don't go there, seriously!)
Ohsso in hardware lane is an inviting cafe sized restaurant with a small takeaway window and seems the goto local drink and snack spot for many.
After the first two Korean failures of the night my girlfriend and I were stupidly hungry by this point so we ordered big.
Ddeokbokki, Cheese Corn, Mandoo Salad, Chive Pancake, boneless fried chicken and diy Tuna Rice balls.
Firstly every dish was great, portions were good. Not massive but certainly not too small. Prices were quite fair with the dumplings and salad at only $7!! Also $10 for quality Ddeokbokki that good is amazing.
Flavour wise the Ddeokbokki was not too spicy or sweet and far from the bland watery mess I've had elsewhere. The chicken was seasoned well and the dipping sauces were nice but prehaps the honey garlic needed a bit more garlic, the sweet chilli was on point though! The Chive pancake deserves a callout too as it had hardly any batter, plenty of vege and seafood and was super crispy. Definitely ordering again!
Service was nice and friendly even with only one server looking after the front of house.
We were so impressed we ordered a Ddeokbokki to go for tomorrow's lunch. There was no way we could have eaten another bite tonight and I think we've found our new regular Korean spot.
Gee gee gee Oh-oh-Ohsso is the best go to Korean restuarant in Melbourne. Great korean music playing and the vibe and set up of the restuarant is incredibly "chilled" and makes it the perfect place for you and your friends to eat and enjoy soju and beer. The staff are very friendly and make sure that you always feel welcomed. The service is prompt and the food is mouth watering fantastic! Definitely will recommend this little gem!
Ohsso but not so-so
Another day, another city adventure and this time I settled on Korean Street Food for lunch to have something different. I ordered set 2 which was a fair bit of food for a fair price (15$), had spicy pork sushi rolls which were nicely flavored, a cup of broth, squid, 2 seaweed rolls and a large dish of something I forget how to spell and pronounce. Oh and a can of grape juice. All in all a very tasty and satisfying meal. Some of it was rather spicy and fiery though. If you're bored of burgers and pizza and other such things and want to try something different, give this a shot. :)
Also the decor and setup of the place as well as the music has a very authentic Korean feel to it which I thought was very cool.
a late night stroll down bourke street with a slight detour down hardware lane.......late night drinking married with the whole fried chicken is the way to go.....i had the spicy chicken feet and the whole fried chicken and seafood soup with kimchi pancake......we shared these dishes between 4. whole fried chicken required a little wait however tasted amazzzinggggg....kimchi pancake crispy...seafood soup was a seafood soup...couldnt ask for much more.....kimchi refills overflowing....great sleection of sojus...!! serivce was quick and attentive, food was cooked amazingly from this micro kitchen and the portion size was fair to say the least...hardware lane late night eats are not rare however traditional asian cuisine for great value is showcased here and executed with extreme precision....the chicken feet with its braised skin and gelatinous joints remineded me of my time in asia....no beating around the bush here......seriosuly i dont know how they do it......a blast from seoul not to be missed. i will definately be back, recomened for authentic late night asian culutre
Ugh YES it's been literal years since I've had authentic ddeokbokki like the one they serve here at Ohsso. It came in a small bowl with fish cakes; it was a bit spicy, but that just enhanced the flavour.
I am a huge Korean food fan and so it's a natural choice for lunch. Staff is friendly and helpful. I asked what they would recommend and they told me that the set lunch menu was the best value and it was. For $10 you start with picking a main dish - I picked my favourite spicy pork with rice. This was spicy but delicious. Definitely great on a cold winter Melbourne day. You also get to pick a side dish - which I picked the deep fried dumpling filled with mushroom and veggies (this was their recommendation) and it was yummy. Theres a broth that also came with the set menu which was simple but equally yummy just to break up the spiciness from my pork. There was also a small side of kimchi. For $10 you can't get any better value. The servings were substantial and very filling. I will be returning to try some of the other dishes on the menu.
Ordered lunch set 1 and 2 for the two of us -very full and satisfying. The staff is nice and friendly; shady environment on hot weather; deliciously good food, especially love the deokbokki! Definitely will return again to try their dinner
Delicious Sushi!
Having Tuna sushi for my lunch break sometimes, I also like the ddeokbokki, wanna try the rices there I really like rice as there is no much rice place around the lane and as I just working in front of this korean street food. So tasty thank u.
Came here with a large group on a comfortable night and enjoyed everything about it. The staff were accomadating and polite. The food was delicious and packed a nice heat to it, along with the soju that kept you warm.
Loved the overall expierence and would happily return!
The chilli cheese chicken is nothing to mess with if you can't handle your spice. My stomach was speaking three different languages by the time I was done eating. No need for lip injections either, the swell from the burn 10/10 Kylie Jenner would be jealous. As painful as it was to get through the dish, I for some reason love putting myself through pain when it comes to chilli. Thus, this place gets full marks. We also tried all their different flavour of sojus, blueberry and grape being my favourite. This place is great for a friendly catch up or pre drinks as the Soju is about $14. Spacing is small but cozy and the service is sincere and did their best to accommodate our large group.
We got wasted, were loud and ate all their food.
Definitely my go to when in town.
Details: For $13 I got a beef bowl which had egg, carrot, been sprouts, lettuce and some other yummy things you can see in the images. Really loved the soy sauce drenched in the bowl.l I asked for extra salad and no rice because carbs 😅 but it was actually delicious!!!! I will definitely be back for lunch ASAP.
Service: very friendly staff and took approximately 15 minutes to bring out my meal. Not too bad considering it was relatively busy.
Decor: Cute traditional Japanese set up.
Am yet to find a bad place to eat lunch on hardware lane... but will keep trying 😇
Amazingly amazing👍🏻
I really love the spicy pork and cheese, it is really amazing~
Good atmosphere, i feel like i was in Korea ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Love the tteokbokki❤️
Overall, Ohsso 짱!!
2018 records.
Tuna Rice ball is a must! Big portions too :)
Ohsso is one of the best Korean restaurants i had tried. Personally I don't like most Korean food in Melbourne as they usually use the same ready-to-use soy paste from Asian groceries in every dish. Ohsso is different. Every dish has a distinct spice and flavour. Not too salty and oily comparing to most Korean restaurants. I like their soy chicken stew the most as I bet they have marinated the chicken. Dinner for 5 of us with a price tag of $125 is very reasonable. Will come back!
The price is fair n the service is great ,I like their rice cake because it is not too hard n the sauce is good n bit spicy.their DIY rice ball also good: we need to do it ourselves-the ingredients re simple.the spicy pork is just normal taste n bit more oily.
The menu is different between lunch n dinner.there is not much meal for lunch
Ohsso is a small Korean restaurant located down by the Collins Street end of Hardware Lane. I have walked past the restaurant many times while heading towards Flinders Street Station, but I have never had a chance to try it.

Their kimbap is good! Ive tried other kimbap in the city, and I can claim that ohsso's kimbap is the best (price and taste wise). Especially during winter with cold winds, its good to order their bite size fish cake. Sadly, their kimbap is only for lunch menu. I won't really come here for dinner, though.
great value for money, food was nice and staff were friendly. we ordered the bugolgi hot pot with calamari entree and some rice and that was enough for three. the place is tiny though and could get a little stuffy but once the door is opened it was fine
Excellent customer service - a waiter ran out to give me back my container of food after I left it at the table by accident. The chicken & Mayo was also so delicious. Would come again. :))
I've only ever been here for lunch and it was pretty good ; however , dinner took things to a whole new level . Firstly , the service was excellent care of the gorgeous Korean waitress , in addition to the manager . We order the kimchi pancake and it was perfect . Some places are to too greasy or batter-y , but this wasn't . Fried chicken and blood sausage ✅
I love the ddeokbokki there! It had just the write spiciness and quite generous in giving the fishcakes. The decor was quite comfortable and love the barrel tables and chairs. The only thing I had a problem with was the quantity of what was given, about less than half filled up in the takeaway bowls other than that nice place! Would go there again to try the other food I hadn't yet ate.
Food was not bad. Everything seems too spicy. Very nice outdoor place to sit and chill. They open late night which is good for mid night snack runs. However they need more variety of food.
Had dinner here with my work mates! Love the atmosphere and service! The whole chicken was so crunchy yet not dry inside, will be back very soon :)
A great little restaurant just slightly out of the busy city streets. I enjoyed the chilled atmosphere on a Friday night with outdoor seating as we watch people walk past Hardware Lane. We ordered the kimchi pancake, ddeokbokki & the slow braised slow chicken stew with soju ofcourse. The appetiser dishes were all really good & tasty. The kimchi pancake was nice and crispy on the outer edges with pieces of squid in it & the ddeokbokki was simply good. Now onto the stew which had a warning that it will take 20-25 minutes to cook which we were happy to wait whilst having some appetisers & drinks. When the pot of stew came out we didn't expect it to be that big even though we knew we ordered the bigger size to share between 3 people. The stew itself was deliciously sweet with the chicken flavour & vegetables that was infused into the soup. This pot of stew would be perfect for Melbourne's winter to come.
Crazy about the tuna rice balls. I didn't even bother to roll it into small pieces, I just ate straight from the bowl! The chilli chicken was okay, nothing like Jean's in Sydney though, but there's definitely room for improvement. I also tried the beef soup which was basically japchae in broth...the noodles, the beef and the taste are all the same. Decent place to get Korean snacks/street food.
Would definitely recommend this cute little place for your Kim Bap needs! Food was authentic and good servings too just the way I like it and the staff were super helpful with ordering new dishes!
Would definitely come back to try out the rest of the menu 👍👍
Whenever you crave for toppoki, just go to Ohsso. It was hot but so good! They have 2 sizes, small ($5) and large ($8) which I think quite reasonable price. You could try their kimbap as well, it's sort of like sushi but with different filling, yums!
A cute little Korean restaurant specializing Korean Street Food Snacks. We walked past and just in time for their Happy Hour Special. The $2 Oden (Seafood paste) Skewer was a bargain and we could have unlimited broth. Of course, we had more than one Korean beer as a result of it.
A good value place to socialize over some authentic Korean fast food.
very small but cosy place, food is delicious!
Price/quality very good, We had the jjim with seafood and it was absolutely amazing! We also had the DIY rice tuna balls, there was almost no tuna in the bowl, this was the only negative point.
Like their food. Lunch time is like street food style! Bought original kimbap and vegetarian kimbap. I prefer the vegetarian over original kimbap.
Overall, I like their food there! I have been there once with friends for their fish cake soup, kimchi soup, fried chicken, rice balls. Rice balls are to die for!!!
This small korean restaurant was an awesome hang out for me and my frined, we liked the fish roe rice balls so much we ordered another serving. The chicken feet was ultra spicy, but they helped cook cheese into it to make it easier for us to eat!
Went here in a group of 10 for late night dinner (11pm). The place is pretty small. Luckily its not that crowded that we can sit without being separated. We ordered kimchi soup, beef brisket, boneless chicken, chicken stew, squid and i think it pork bulgogi if not than its spicy pork. Sadly we didnt get to eat ddeobokki because they run out of ddeobokki. My friends said that their ddeobokki is very delicious. Maybe i should try it next time. The kimchi soup is not the best but it does taste quite good. We love the boneless chicken chicken ! We ordered 2 and could get enough of it. Its really crispy ! The chicken stew is also very delicious ! It has a sweet taste which you will keep wanting for more. The chicken is also very tender so its easy to eat. The pork, beef, and squid also taste very good. I guess this place has a very good cook ! All of the dishes taste amazing. The service is good too. Overall, everything was fantastic. I bet we will return to this place to eat very often for having late dinner. Cheers ! 🎉
Heard about the new buzz in the cbd, so i thought i'd give it a shot! I ordered the beef with beansprouts along with the fried chicken, and yes it was definitely worth the journey down to Hardware Ln in search for authentic korean food, the chicken was cripsy on the outside and full of flavour, while the inside of this beauty was so tender that i could no longer share with my partner haha. The beansprouts and beef dish was awesome, the dish was light, healthy and so tasty, these two dishes went well with rice! I especially love the layout and decor of this restaurant, it brings out an undescribable warmth that feels like home as you sit down, followed by their friendly and reponsive staff, this place is perfect, it's a must eat for anyone who is looking for korean cuisine, ohssoo good!!
Tried to eat here twice before with no luck - the first time it was their closing time already (Zomato needs to update their opening hours! Thought they were open until late), and the second time they weren't open on a Sunday (I later found out that they're closed on the first and last Sunday of the month). Yesterday I finally made it and went past after doing some shopping, it was only 5pm and they had just opened up, so not many things were available, including the kimbap that I really wanted to try. I miss all these Korean street food from my time in Korea, wandering the night markets in Dongdaemun alone late at night after shopping. I only had the fish cake broth with udon noodles as it was one of the only things available, teokbokki was also available but I wasn't feeling like rice cake then. A simple bowl of two fish cake skewers, some stock standard broth and udon noodles brought back many memories. I'll be back for the kimbap and many other things for sure!
Ohsso serves authentic Korean street food . Literally what you would find in pojangmachas (street food stalls) from flavoured kimbab, tteokbokki, fishcake to deepfried sides. I'm delighted to finally see a restaurant that serves my favourite type of kimbab, a tuna kimbab, in Melbourne.
We've been coming here many times since day 1 this place opens. The space is quite small and there are usually not too many customers but just enough to make you feel comfortable. The food here is nice and comes in decent portions for the price. They serve two menus for lunch and dinner. We normally come here at night time. Our favourites are the Tuna rice ball that you roll by yourself, the fish cakes soup & the boneless fried chicken. I recommend whoever likes Korean comfort food should give this one a try.
Awesome Korean food. They have Kim Bap (Korean-style sushi) which I don't recall seeing before. Seating nicely spaced. Would make a great bar on a summer night (open late). They take electronic payments.
A pretty cheap eat! For $6 you get a hearty broth with udon and fish cake. The Korean style sushi is a bit on the bland side compared to the usual, but it has a homey charm to it. Tried other things on the menu but always go back to these two. Haven't tried the dinner menu, so can't comment!
My babes and I were walking down Hardware Lane looking for somewhere to have lunch with her sister when they spotted a Korean Street Food eatery that they've been following for a while on Instagram. Willing to try anything once, I thought it was a great idea to have Oh Sso for lunch.
We walked into the eatery about an hour after it opened for lunch at 12:30. Although nearly every other restaurant and cafe down Hardware Lane was packed full of customers, I found it interesting that Oh Sso was empty, except for one other customer at the time. I liked the decor as it felt like a fusion of East & West. The facade and walls appeared to be similar to a take away eatery straight from Korea and yet the black garbage can seats and black oil drum tables looked very American style.
After looking over the menu, I ordered the Beef Bulgogi Dup Bap, my babes ordered the Original Kim Bap, her sister ordered the Fish Cake NoodLe Soup and we ordered the Squid Tui Gim and a cup of Ddeokbokki to share.
Looking at my Beef Bulgogi Dup Bap, it appeared to be some beef and salad on top of a bed of rice. Once you mix through the Bulgogi sauce on the bottom of the bowl, the Dup Bap takes on a different consistency that I really enjoyed. The Bulgogi sauce is sweet, the salad fresh and the beef tender. Adding some Kim Chi for added taste, I quickly finish my meal and wish I had more!
My babes Original Kim Bap came out and it looked exactly like Japanese sushi. My babes didn't like the pickled radish or the burdock root so she picked it out from the pieces she had but I didn't mind it. For me, it was the only part of the sushi that made it distinctly Korean. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable but not something I'd order from a Korean Street Food restaurant next time.
My babes sisters Fish Cake Noodle Soup was the most disappointing meal of our lunch. The Fish Cakes, which looked more like wavy fish paper, didn't have that fish flavour I was expecting and the soup tasted very bland. Another dish I wouldn't get again if I came back here.
With the last two dishes not making much of an impression, I was very apprehensive about the shared dishes. The Squid Tui Gim, which is similar to Japanese Tempura, was cooked beautifully as the squid was still very tender! But by far my favourite dish of our meal was Ddeokbokki! Hard to pronounce but easier to eat, essentially its a cup of small cylindrical shaped rice cakes and the previously mentioned fish cakes covered in a sweet and mildly spicy sauce. I found that the more I ate, the spicier it got until it hit my ideal level of heat. I couldn't get enough of it but the cup ended quicker that I would've liked.
If I came back to Oh Sso for lunch again, I would definitely get the Dup Bap and the Ddeokbokki but hopefully we come back here for dinner as I'd like to try other dishes that aren't on offer during lunch.
Hi all!
Had dinner here the other night with my wife and ambience was very nice... Decor was lovely and seating was not too cramped for Hardware Lane. Service was great and they made sure we had everything we needed without intruding into our personal space (which is very hard to achieve in my opinion). Had the calamari to begin with which was slightly overcooked but still tasty. For mains I ordered the fried chicken and spicy fish soup with 2 sides of rice. Servings were generous and not much to complain about. All in all a good evening and dining experience. Partner was satisfied and will definitely come back for round 2!
Happy diner
Oh so good!!!. Best korean food in melbourne, a must try for anyone who loves authentic korean food.
Fantastic food! Lovely staff. The lane way is vibrant and slightly chaotic! In a good way! Stumbled upon this one whilst on another mission, but glad I did. I did a takeaway , walked 10 or so minutes to the car, decided to eat there as I wasn't sure about my parking meter, food still so hot and delicious after the trek. Head and shoulders above a place like "the rice workshop" . Diced chicken and chili with cabbage . Awesome!!
Superb - I typed “food” into Google Maps and this excellent venue was the first to pop up! A great healthy meal at a good price. Delicious tasty Korean street food with a comfortable environment. The menu has lots to choose from and the prices are so reasonable.
Korean beer is available or other non alcoholic beverages to choose from. Take away or dine in with friendly staff and fast delivery of you tasty order.
The music playing in house is not too loud and catchy Korean K-Pop.
Hardware Lane here in Melbourne is a great place to visit for some excellent variety of food, and this place is a highly recommended venue.
P/s: there’s limited indoor seats at the actual place, but if you are happy to eat outdoors it’s fine
Loved it. They were quick to serve and food taste good. If your a spicy lover try the cuttle fish snacks.
The famous chicken fried snack is also a must to have.
Their peach wine is nice and mild to have few bottles.
They are so cuteeee. We came ordering dinner take away. They only do kimbap for lunch but did it for us for dinner just because they're such lovely people. A pretty young lady and a nice gentlement. Should have asked for your names. Will definitely come back 🥰
I was saved.Because it is open until late.
(I arrived in Melbourne at midnight.)
Toppogi was very delicious.
I’m not good at spicy food. But it was very delicious.
good!A cute and kind girl working in a shop.
I want to go again
Quality, affordable Korean food served in a cozy environment. From tteokbokki to tugim, Ohsso covers nearly all the dishes you could want.
Good lunch specials for those who need to get in and out, as well. Definitely worth your visit, in my opinion!
