Can’t vouch for the sushi here but really enjoyed my quick snack of a teriyaki chicken skewer which was ultra tender and quite chunky for all of $3.40. Enough to keep me going through the end of financial year sales.
It’s hard to find a good tasting vegetarian sushi in Melbourne. But O Bento would offer you just that! I had an avocado sushi and it tasted so fresh and delicious! I’m a regular at O Bento Melbourne Central!
A pack of gyozas for $7.70 I think. An ok filling lunch but if you get the gyozas at the right time - when they have just finished making it, then it is Soo good! The bottom part is still crispy and crunchy and filled with juicy hot meat. Delicious with the sauce.
The Don is big enough for me. Delicious but greasy. A little bit more people at lunchtime but won’t wait too long. Worth to have a try. Kind of Japanese cuisine but not an authentic one.
Amazing flavors! I always try value for money lunches and the set menus here never disappointed. Noodles and rice cooked to perfection. Bento Set 1 rocks. No pics this time as all the plate is wiped clean.
A great place to get a japanese food in town! I order chicken fried rice and it taste sooooo good... the portion is so big hahaha i ate it with my mom and we still cant finished it lol😂 i recommed this place
One of the busiest sushi chains in the Melbourne Central food court!
I got one of their display bentos and it was pretty nice! The sushi itself wasn't bad, but the highlight was definitely the katsu chicken. It was so crispy and tender, I could eat another box of them. I do believe my bento box was one of the fresher ones so it was nicer, but it really depends on your luck whether you find yourself a fresh one.
Overall, this is a really reliable place for sushi and it does show that with the amount of people that come here!
A great place to get some Japanese Pre-prepped fast food sushi, Egg Fried Rice, various chicken & Pork dishes to accompany.
What I go for has always been for the Egg Fried Rice with Miso Chicken, which is the best & has, will always be my favourite.
Nice service, fast service and always look after customers. I had pork ksatu Dan, cheap and a lot and Yummy. Thank you for made my brunch so nice. :)
I have heard O-Bento sells the Unagi Don is really good. After the class, I am expected to order one. It looks delicious. It has egg, onion, carrots, the pickled radishes and eel on rice. The eel tastes great with special sauce. I have taken away. They gave me a lot of sources. I really like it, because when I eat the eel don, I need to make sure enough sauce on my eel. It will eat with different taste and feeling. Once you eat a piece of eel, you feel satisfied with you taste. And then you try egg with vegetables, it tastes good. However, if you eat a lot, you will feel greasy. They provide the pickled radish to fresh you mouth and reduce the greasy feeling. The only thing I am unhappy is the rice they give me which is half warm and half cold. It tastes really wired and influences the taste.
The food was extremely cheap, the bento boxes are a great way for on the go meals especially for lunch. I ordered the crispy chicken bento and it was very tasty with a rich sauce
I just lovvvvvved the teriyaki chicken and rice combo for mere 6 dollars! The serving potions was sufficient for two foodies like me ! But I managed to finish all of it. It was delicious. Spring roll was average. Staff is pretty good.

O-bento group is same with Menya in Melbourne Central and Elizabeth st, Nabe 1 in emporium. O-bento and Menya have similar interior to match their brand, however Nabe is looks like the premium one.
They have the famous Gyu Tan Don - which is Ox lounge with red wine sauce.
Second best is their unary fried rice.
The restaurant was fairly empty at 9ish in the evening. Service was rather good. Portion was considerably large and reasonably priced. Lots of menu to be chosen.
Recommendations: Ebi Don, Tantan Reman, Katsu Don
Not very Japanese flavours & ingredients. But it works. Portion size are very decent for the price you pay. It's a shop at the food court, you can't get too fussy.

With Don Don around the corner and almost unbeatable for value, O-Bento delivers clean flavours of Japanese meals in huge portions with many at under $10. I love the Terriyaki Chicken Don packed full of flavour with noodles and rice! Generous portion of vegetables and comes in a huge takeaway container if that’s your fancy! Have enjoyed this option several times…
Had a late dinner at Menya with 2 of my friends... I had teriyaki chicken , which is one of the best I've had... =D This came in really generous portion - more than enough t
May not be real Japanese food, but it is pretty decent for a food court/hole-in-the-wall restaurant. I always get the Oyako-don which is consistently delicious.
Love it. Not authentic (more of Hong Kong-inspired "Japanese" food), but the large portions and cheap price make up for it.
Overall okay. Restaurant is small and always busy. Food is fairly priced and definitely worth it. Love the menu.
Gyu tan don !!! A must eat
Gyozas are DELICIOUS! Yakitoris are DELICIOUS too. I had it for light lunch...
A Working Bento Franchise. - Intro: The most convenient franchise bento restaurant in Melbourne. Location is at Melb Central and next to the State of Victoria Library and RMIT university.
- Service: During rush hour, staff can forget to give you a pre-purchased drink or extra meal when there is a queue of customers. Typically the service is excellent in normal hours.
- Quality: Again during rush hour, the pre-made unagi gets over cooked and has a burnt flavour. The bentos and ramens are generally generous and convenient.
- Time: The speed is quite average especially during the busy Uni student luncheon. The reality is that it should be faster because most O-bento products and ingredients can now be purchased at your Woolies and Coles.
- Price: Ranges from $4 - $13 depending on what you order. If it is a snack or entree size meal it's typically $5-7 for an Australasian food. Whereas for the dons and ramen it's $9-$12. And for the bentos it ranges from $10-13.
Try the dumpling pancake to share NOM NOM!!
Never get bored of Menya. Spicy gyu tan don, gyu don, teriyaki beef don, and oyako don; those are my favorites.
We call it "Big Bowl". Some for now, some for later... the servings here are HUGE. The food is nothing too fancy but it's good for the price, and they will happily supply takeaway containers to take home what you can't finish of those massive portions. Good for vegetarians too.
Yes it may not be totally authentic but OTOH it's pretty good. I'm always amazed at how good the simple pork ramen is: generous slabs of sweet pork and silky noodles that don't taste like they spent 3/4 of their life in deep freeze. Good, fast food as the hordes of Asian RMIT kids who pack the place out attest to.
Price increase, but still good food. Large portion, free water/tea and nice japanese food.
price is higher now though:(
Not bad. Headed over to this place because I was in the mood for something tasty and affordable. The staff were quite attentive and quickly proceeded to show us to our seats, followed by menus. I ordered the Gyu-tan Don dish extra spicy and it came out surprisingly well. Meat was soft and flavorful but it did feel a bit oilier compared to other Japanese restaurants. There are other dishes on offer and the portions are generous so you do get value for money.
GYU TAN DON!. GYU TAN DON IS A MUST! AWESOMETASTIC!
Order at the counter! I always forget and sit down first, hoping to be approached by their staff... Not sure why the ox tongue is very popular at Menya, I think it's delicious but not super delicious just like all their other dishes in general. I quite like it though, service is quick and it's one of those places that you can dine in with only a few gold coins in your wallet but you can still be content with your meals.
Cheap asian goodness. Most main meals around $8 and they are big and tasty. We had Chicken terriyaki and Gyu Don and they were awesome.
On Easter Monday 2010, a group of intrepid ramen hunters (myself included) set out to find the best ramen in the Melbourne CBD. While our search was probably not exhaustive, it was pretty exhausting. A total of nineteen bowls of ramen were (mostly) consum
Sigh. Melbourne. Raining like almighty feck. Just another wintry day*. What could make the day better? Ramen . From a shop no bigger than a hole in the wall. Menya is located en route to Melbourne Central train station and it's really bloody small.
Found this place on a random and the Bentos are surprisingly very delicious. At a good price and portion too.
Ordered the Gyu-Tan Don for a dinner takeaway and tastes awesome. I’d love to come back to try the other bento menus.
Tried chicken teriyaki and it was very good . Quantity was enough to over stuff stomach at lunch . Crowded at lunch time however service is quick
The serving size are pretty big, really great value and good quality. I ordered a teriyaki don beef, and it took about 3 min to come out. Good taste and good amount.
