I visited this place several times before but never got a chance to review this place yet! Hawker Chan is one of the fastest growing franchise owned by chef Hong Meng after winning a Michelin star for the famous Hong Kong Soya Chicken Rice dish in 2016. Desipite of his success, Meng still continues to make his secret soya sauce himself to maintain quality of his dishes worldwide.
I tried their $8.80 Soya sauce Chicken with egg noodles. Soya chicken was just remarkable - marinated and brasied overnight, it retained the sweetness of the soy sauce without losing out on the juiciness of the meat. I didn't feel the need to use any of additional sauces as the chicken was already marinated to perfection. Although chicken itself was quite small, it was worth the price :) Overall, I am not sure if it's Michelin star level dish but definitely a decent joint to visit for delicious but affordable chicken. Not a fan of food court layout & lack of service but can't complain too much for $8.80 dish.
Been here multiple times, and it satisfied like no other when I went there! Always always ALWAYS order the noodles over the rice, there’s something about the noodles which is so nice! Sometimes food is served cold but I still always enjoy them. Roast pork, char siew, duck, they’re all so yum. Always tastes like home 🏠
Consistent and probably the best Hong Kong styled BBQ at a cheap price in Australia perhaps.
I enjoyed the crispy chicken & char siu meals but can recommend their housemade soy sauce. I highly advise getting a dish that has it for that yum factor.
The old juicy char siu with burnt bits is back! Best char siu in Melbourne. Hope it never goes away again.
The Char Siew was freshly roasted, with a slight crispness on the outer that was almost charred. The pleasant sweet glaze added a hint of sticky goodness, and this made way for a juicy, tender inner that was full of porky goodness. The slight sweetness permeated throughout without being overwhelming, nicely accompanying the umami of the pork.
I felt lucky that I got to try the famous restaurant before the ‘lockdown’ started. With the reputation they have (Michelin Star), I honestly had a pretty high standard.

And oh wow they didn’t disappoint! The dishes were incredibly delicious. Both the noodle and rice dishes were so flavorful. Good price for the portion as well.

Fortunately I live really close to the place, so once this situation has settled down, I might give them a visit again 😋
We loved our midweek visit to Hawker Chans city location. Being a Wednesday is was quieter which meant no queuing time down the left of the store and immediate ordering ... nice. We couldn’t go past the chicken rice which won the Singapore restaurant it’s Michelin Star. We had this dish with chicken stock rice and a side of chilli and it’s one of the cheapest Michelin dishes I’ve tried. The chicken was superbly tender but quite subtle in flavours while the chicken rice was just a delight. Excellent
We also tried the salt a sweet pork in a platter accompanied by soy sauce noodles. Loved these thing long noodles and the pork belly with Crackling sure was tasty. We had a side
Of bon choy to round this dish out
Our last dish was the spicy pork wontons which were spicy as the name suggest... but arrived quite cool so could have used a little more steaming perhaps.
There was plenty of other dishes to choose from and a short list of beer plus many asian style drinks to choose from to.
Outstanding turn around time with meal being
Put together in under 5 minutes.
This is a delicious food court option. The pork was perfect and each slice had a nice bit of crackle on top. The rice is simple, but great. You can’t beat the price. The reason I didn’t rate it 5 stars is because the pork portion is very small.
😱Lizzie’s first impression: The set up is very smart with the line stemming from the front of the counter to the outside of the restaurant. There is barely a line anymore which is great for me. 🍩Lizzie enjoyed: The sauce in the egg noodles were cooked very well and the texture of it was al dente. The soya chicken meat was really good too, I quite enjoyed it as it was really soft and tender. I love that they have so many new side dishes that has just come about including the pork meatballs. 🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: for such an affordable price, I really can't fault much about the food. It is sometimes served colder than expected. 🥇Lizzie rates overall: great to try for a first time but probably wouldn’t line up just for this meal.
Came here last week with a friend for lunch. We had some combination of meats and curry. The food was nice with a very reasonable range of price. My meal was ready quickly after placing order. Not a disappointing budget restaurant at all.
Great atmosphere and great food at an affordable price! Absolutely loved the pork combination plate - SO delicious! And the soya noodles. Will definitely be back
Hawker Chan features the world's cheapest Michelin-starred meal, the ‘Crisped skin soy marinated chicken' which was so tender & delicious. The menu has great variety and is very affordable if you are looking for a great cheap eats restaurant in the CBD. My favourite was the noodles along side the crispy skin soy chicken.
The staff were so kind and caring, and we got to try a variety of dishes. The dishes we tried were all quite good with bold flavours. It was a great night with yummy food and good friends.
Tucked away in the CBD, Hawker Chan offers great food at a very reasonable price.
The restaurant is lovely inside with an amazing menu and very friendly and attentive staff.
We tried a number of dishes, all so different and tasty. The stand outs were the chicken curry, omg wow! The taste of the curry was just delish and had a nice kick too! The bok choy seasoned and cooked beautifully, the spicy pork wonton was punchy and yummy and let's not forget the soy sauce chicken noodle! The noodles cooked to perfection and I loved way the chicken was cooked, it tasted so good.
A great venue to try, if you are curious then come and and visit, you won't be disappointed.
Thank you for the invite, everything I had was so yummy.
4.5. Hawker Chan launched their new 2020 Michelin menu which we got to try out at the event. We sampled some new dishes such as the fried tofu with prawns and mayo, spicy pork wonton, curry chicken with rice, chicken stock rice, pork meat rolls and deep fried pork with thai sauce and rice.
I really like the fried tofu with prawns as it was really crunchy on the outside, but soft and full of flavour and prawns on the inside. It was also nice on its own without the mayo!
My favourite of the night is the soya chicken on dry noodles. The noodles were drizzled with a really nice sauce which wasn't too salty, and had some chilli sauce on the side. The soya chicken was the most succulent, juiciest pieces of chicken ever! Seriously it is so addictive!
I also had a soy bean drink to go with the meals.
They have already opened a second store in Chaddy which I've been, but also opening 2 more outlets in Box Hill Central! Keep up the great food Hawker Chan!
I had the pleasure of trying Hawker Chan’s new 2020 Michelin Menu, and what a fantastic feast it was!
Back when Hawker Chan first opened in Melbourne, the lines were out the door from day to night! Now, they’ve expanded to Chadstone Shopping Centre and soon to Box Hill in February this year.
Upon arrival, we were provided with a nice selection of beverages, including their new beer and exclusive Greenstone Vineyards wine. The Homemade Plum Juice had a very unique sweet and sour plum flavour which I really liked, and the Fresh Soybean Milk was very smooth and refreshing.
We got to try a variety of the dishes from the new menu, including:
Sweet & Sour Pork - I’m a sucker for sweet and sour, so of course I was super excited to see this dish on the menu. The pork is served as meatballs, which are very tender and flavourful, and doused in the delicious and thick sweet and sour sauce! I also loved the onion slices which tasted really nice in the sauce too.
Curry Chicken - a very hearty and flavourful meal. If you’re looking for something more warming and substantial, this dish is perfect for you. The curry is very flavourful and a bit spicy, and it goes perfectly with rice. I love the potatoes which are very fluffy and soft, and absorb all the curry sauce. The chicken is cooked very tender and juicy too.
Deep Fried Pork with Thai Sauce - this was a very interesting dish! I’ve never really had something like it before. It’s basically a large deep-fried meatball patty. The inside is very tender, soft and juicy, while the outside is crispy. It comes with a sweet tomato-y Thai sauce, although I think it also tastes great with the curry sauce too!
Fried Tofu with Prawns and Mayo - we were so intrigued by this dish! I’ve never had fried tofu served with mayonnaise before, but surprisingly it worked! I really liked the texture of the firm tofu, and the combination with the sweetened mayonnaise (which tasted a little bit like an egg custard) was quite nice. This would be great if you’re a fan of sweet and savoury combinations.
Spicy Pork Wonton - you really can’t go wrong with spicy wontons! The wontons were delicious, with the thin and silky wrapper and the tender pork filling inside. The highlight, of course, was the chilli oil sauce which was super flavourful and fragrant.
Soya Chicken Noodle - who can forget the star of the show, the soya chicken! It’s so tender and juicy, with just the right amount of fattiness. The skin is sweet and flavourful. I would definitely recommend getting it with the noodles, as the sweet soya sauce makes it the perfect noodle dish! Never get sick of this!
Overall, I had an amazing feast at Hawker Chan and I really enjoyed all the dishes.
Thank you so much for having me!
Visited Hawker Chan tonight for their Michellin Star Menu Launch and I was not disappointed.
ATMOSPHERE:
Spacious, stylish and bright interior matches the warm service you receive from Hawker Chan's staff.
FOOD & DRINK:
We tried the Sichuan dumplings, fried tofu and prawn, soya sauce chicken noodle and so much more that is pictured.
REVIEW (5/5): 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I absolutely loved my time at Hawker Chan tonight, I felt welcomed from the minute I arrived.
My favourite dish had to be the soya sauce chicken noodle, can't wait to come back again for some more noodle dishes 😍
🇸🇬 singapore’s michelin starred hawker
🏚: Hawker Chan
📍: Melbourne
————————————————————
📝: Singapore’s famous Michelin starred hawker stall. The store blew up as news of their soy chicken and roasted meat spread. There’s no longer the need for Melbournians to fly all the way to Singapore to try this famous food stall.
❤️: So happy to have tried their new menu launching as of next week. Can’t miss the favorites like Egg Noodle Soy Chicken 🍗 and Roasted BBQ Pork🍖, but also loved the new dishes like the Prawn Pancakes🍤 and Chicken Curry with Rice🥘.
Hawker Chan set up shop in Melbourne with a huge fanfare and while it has quiet down somewhat, they still attract a steady crowd of diners who come for their famous soya chicken noodles. Tender and juicy pieces of chicken, marinaded in their secret soya sauce and paired with delicious thin egg noodles.
With the launch of new menu items, diners have the added option to choose from curry chicken, tofu prawns, and sweet and sour pork, amongst other. The deep fried pork with Thai sauce is a great choice if you are after a combination of sweet, spicy and zesty.
With beverage choices such as chrysanthemum tea, plum juice and fresh soybean milk, Hawker Chan is bringing a slice of Asian hawker dining to Melbourne. A cheap and cheerful meal is always assured here. Thank you for having us in.
I’ve always had their soy chicken noodles via Deliveroo - so it’s good to finally try the rest of the menu, very reminiscent of being in south East Asia, other than my favourite noodles, I enjoyed the curry, bokchoy, tofu prawns, dumplings and especially the pork dish - so well seasoned and tender! Also love they I can get soya milk and chrysanthemum tea here.
This place serves the cheapest quick meal you can have all times. Ample sittings provided it is not lunch hours. Prices are very reasonable for the food and service.
I have always loved street food more than anything else. My favorite place to travel for food is Singapore because of the Hawker Centers. The Hawker centers have everything from drinks to Michelin starred food. Hawker Chan is one of them who has served tasty and inexpensive food for years. They have tried to create the same atmosphere in Melbourne by opening up Hawker Chan.
1/12 - First time to here, food is all good and the soya sauce chicken is delicious. Do not expect to get a big portion with only $6.8 of price in a serving, is pretty worth. One thing that impress me while I have no idea through the process is the cashier Yan explaining with patient and serve with smile. Overall it was a nice try food is good & staff is nice. Will definitely back for the next visit.
Came here for a quick lunch, I had char siew and wonton noodle and my partner had soy chicken noodle. Both were delicious, tender meat, loved the noodles and sauce.
Love the dry noodles with the soy sauce. Taste quite authentic. Roast pork is not bad but I still prefer their char siew and soy chicken.
Delicious food, fast service and great price.
My “go to” for quick lunch solution. Great food, quick service, clean restaurant. Love the bbq pork and their chilli sauce, it is one of the best chilli sauce!
Delicious dishes. The soy chicken was the best. Very flavoursome and nicely cooked. Definitely the best I have eaten throughout Melbourne. Sambal chilli was very authentic as well. However serving was quite small for the price and service is always rushed and frantic.

Came here for lunch and excited to try this michellin restaurant
Loved the chicken and char siew as they are so good.
The dumpling soup also nice to try
I am a semi regular to this place - if I have a hankering for some tasty soya chicken on rice / noodles. Tasty chicken, well seasoned, juicy. The crispy pork belly is not my favourite in Melbourne - there are better options. but it's all about the soya chicken rice, which is very good - especially for the price point. Considering that the minimum wage in Australia is higher than Singapore, and the cost of production - they have managed to keep the prices extremely affordable.
After seeing the long queues outside Hawker Chan when it first opened, I’ve been wanting to come here since. I was finally able to try it out recently.
The restaurant is quite spacious and clean, full of small square tables and a line on one side to order your food. While waiting in line, we were able to browse the menu and decide what to eat. The service was very quick and efficient, they expect you to have decided by the time you arrive at the counter.
My friends and I all ordered the Soy sauce chicken noodles ($8.80) as the chicken seems to be what the restaurant is known for (from reading the newspaper articles on the wall anyways). The chicken was tender, but it wasn’t too special. My favourite part of the dish was actually the noodles, which were drowned in soy sauce and tasted delicious. There was also a dollop of paste on the side of the plate which tasted nice with everything.
In general, it was a nice quick lunch (and also cheap!) that just managed to fill me up but also left me wanting for more.
Hawker Chan is like a fast food type of service. When you come you gotta wait in line and order your food at the counter, then you get a number and you wait for about up to 10 mins. Good to to go when you're by yourself and you just want lunch during work hours. Super consistent every time I go here always same amount of meat and rice/noodle ratio. I always enjoyed the red paste they give you and the sauce that is all over.
4 stars because I reckon they can work on their pork belly meat but I like the bbq pork the most at the moment. I'd recommend getting the noodles! Oh and very well priced.
Having tried the original Hawker Chan in Singapore, I was super excited to try the Melbourne one. Be ready to queue up and arrive early to avoid missing out on sold out meat. I love the roast chicken and barbecue pork! So tasty and the meat is juicy. I love egg noodles so it’s a no brainer I would pick that. The sauce they serve it with is so fragrant and like no other. Great feed for a cheap eat.
Very affordable and extremely tasty. I loved the ordering system although the alert sound became annoying. My dish (the mixed meats) with an added chicken with a drink ended up being just over $20, great value. Will be returning for sure!
A quick and yummy fuss free meal. You have to order and collect your food at the counter. I had the roasted pork noodle. The pork was a perfect bite size cut and super tasty. Most importantly it was not overly salty.

Taste is worth with the price. I paid $6.8 for a chicken rice and that was really really cheap. I heard that they won michellin awards as well before. However, i would bring my friend here again to try their chicken rice with affordable price ! :)
I’ve been here twice and I am very impressed with their soy chicken with egg noodles. That is my favourite dish. I have never eaten chicken as good as the one at Hawker Chan’s. The seasoning in the noodles is the best accompaniment combined with the whole dish. I like the addition of bok choy for added freshness and the shrimp paste for added flavour. I also ordered the 3 meat platter which is also good but not really great. But overall, the best seller soy chicken and noodles here is amazing. I can eat two servings in one go! It’s just that good!
food comes so quick and so cheap! although its far from uni, worth the tram ride to get a nice lunch meal 😆 i got the roast pork and wonton noodle. i like how it comes with the sambal chilli
For its price I’d say the food is quite good. great place for a quick meal but not worthwhile if one needs to wait in line for a long time to get food.

I wasn't that hungry but the stuff I ordered tasted good. There's a lot of seats and the service was very fast. It feels like authentic food with more modern food court style seating. The prices were also very good.
I visited a few times. Very crowded especially lunch time but always enjoyed nice roast chicken and pork. Love everything from this place. Highly recommend to everyone!
Who would of thought a cheap eats place would actually earn a Michelin star. Well Hawker Chan has one of the best char sui pork in town, the rendered pork with spices bbq to perfection. The lines can be very long but don't expect to be waitered on as it's like the food courts. Order, pay and wait for your number
I've been to this restaurant 3 times in my 6-day stay in Melbourne. I guess my Asian tongue is homesick for Asian cuisine. The food is really great, and very affordable. Their soy chicken is my favorite.
We tried Hawker Chan’s soya sauce chicken, char siew, soya bean sprouts, and Thai style tofu - and they were all very full of flavours! Loved the soya-seasoned thin noodles that were cooked to perfection. The set up reminded me of a Singaporean food court where you’d come up to the counter to order (while trying to find a table at the same time!). So it was more of a self service eatery and it was very busy, but it made the experience more authentically hawker.
Fxck the negative reviews, I had a great time here. Soy chicken and char siu are the best I've had in Melbourne. If only one thing I wish they could improve is to use less plastic utensils. Don't see the point of using a plastic spoon while eating in. Other than that, excellent!
