Review Elceed - Melbourne

terrible service but the food was amazing, so we arrive at this cafe after our original place was too full. we entered saw the sign that said please wait to be seated so we waited for a few minutes of not even being acknowledged before asking what the deal was. we were told just to take a seat anywhere not a good start, so we took a seat inside the waitress there promptly dumped a couple of menus in front of us not even a hello or would you like some coffee to start. 5 minutes later I finally get the attention of another waitress and ask if we can order coffee. meanwhile there are only 3 other parties in the cage already eating so they disnt need much service. after we get our coffee we then order food. the food I must say was actually really good and value for money. will I return probably not service is a big deal for me coming from that line of work all my life .

Service was slow as there wasn’t enough staff on, so we waited over half an hour for our food and when it did arrive, we were a bit disappointed. The corn fritters on the menu said it included an egg, however there was no egg. The pancakes said it included fresh fruits but the fruit was bananas, pineapple and lettuce. Interesting combo for sure. The pancakes themselves were cold and thin - not worth the price we paid. Would not return here.

The service was quick and friendly. I sat outside with my dog and they were very attentive, asking if I'd like a bowl of water for him while I eat. The coffee was good, and the food - as unappetising as it was displayed on the plate, was actually really tasting and filling. Overall it was an enjoyable breakfast.

Dropped by to take away a coffee. Service was a bit lukewarm and not very friendly. Coffee itself is a bit watery too. But overall still okay. Would be keen to come back and try their food as it looks quite interesting, but perhaps not so much for the coffee.

Service was good. The lady who took my order and got us to our table was really nice! The food, to be honest it was disappointing. We ordered a special on the menu, the grilled Chicken Burger. The breast meat was really dry, the bread was small and the salad in the burger was just a simple cabbage mix with a sauce that tasted like salad dressing. The second main that arrived was the Gruyere Toast. Flavours was odd, appearance was fried mushrooms, some bread and lots of rocket. The rocket was dry without any dressing. Coffees were good. We waited a fair bit for the food and paid $40 for the two mains and two coffees. It's going to be tough competition when you're competing with Twenty & Six down the road that serves original seasonal cafe meals.

We used to quite like eating here, and the quality isn't bad, but the angry shouty man who we assume to be the owner/manager makes the atmosphere unpleasant. He's always hanging around and talking rudely to his staff. He isn't subtle about it and it's impossible to ignore. I occasionally drop in for a takeaway coffee but I couldn't stay for a meal with him there. The other staff are very nice.

A small quiet cafe with lots of charm. Lots of sunlight coming through from that huge window so it's bright and airy in the dining area. My wife tried the spicy beef pie with salad and loved it. It was flavoursome and hearty, perfect for a winter afternoon. I have the corn and jalapeño fritters with poached egg and it was quite good and can't complain about the avocado that came with it. Coffee was decent and price was not too expensive. Highly recommended.

Great local find in North Melbourne. The food was terrific and not as pricey as Auction Room or 7 Seeds. We also had one of the better coffees I've tasted in a while here. The space has a terrific relaxed vibe. It's a not a huge space which I think is a plus because a lot of other larger places become too loud to chat over your meal. So be aware that there could be a line or go just after the rush.

Walked in one Saturday morning and saw that every vacant table, inside and outside had dirty dishes. Even though the place was not busy. Turned around and walked out again. New owners, perhaps?

Stumbled upon this place by accident, and so glad I did. Only had carrot cake and iced latte, but both were fantastic

Lovely staff! Would recommend the halloumi croissant
Athena
Top notch coffee. The food.. not so much. I ordered EOT and honestly one the worst I've had in Melbourne. Very, very bland. Probably will only go back for the coffee

I ordered food there yesterday (30.07.19) and there was some confusion as to what table had ordered what food. I saw our order go past to another table, however one of the meals didn't match the other tables order, but the chicken burger did. The chicken burger was left at the other table, while the smashed avo was brought back to the counter to confirm the table number. Once the waitress confirmed the correct table (ours) and realised the chicken burger was meant to be on our table, she proceeded to the other table and asked for the burger back then delivered it to me!!! There was at least 60 seconds between delivering the burger to the wrong table and going to retrieve it! I said nothing as the shock of such a practice was mind blowing. It is only after contemplation that this is unacceptable. It was clear that the other table who originally received the burger had had some wedges as there was only 3 on the plate! I will not be eating there again as that is unacceptable and should require some serious retraining. If they blatantly do this in front of customers I wonder what happens behind the scene.

Have been here twice in one month<br/>Once with a friend, once alone<br/>They’re lovely, friendly and try hard to please.<br/>Not sure if they’ve ever run a cafe before, it’s all s bit stop/ start and “jerky”.<br/>No drama as long as you’re not in a rush.<br/>Chill- go with the flow<br/>Coffee and food eventually arrives and it’s worth the wait on both counts.<br/>Good, strong coffee.<br/>Delicious simple food.<br/>I’m a fan

Walked by and stuck my head into this cafe it looked absolutely peaceful with a lovely courtyard out back. It was lunchtime and it was dead empty I thought lucky me. I asked for a pulled pork burger but received some wagu burger instead. This was loaded with butter but there was no point complaining as the waiters couldn’t speak English.

Went for breakfast this morning. Order was very simple: croissant, fruit toast, butter, jam, 1 piccolo and 1 tea. Tea and coffee came out within 5 minutes so all good. Then unheated croissant came out after 10 minutes. Then it was a full 20 minutes before we had to go inside and ask what happened to cutlery, fruit toast, jam, butter? They had forgotten and meanwhile coffee and tea were cold. After 30 minutes we got all we ordered but consumed with cold tea and coffee. For $20 this was really unacceptable!!! Will not go there again. The service people are very nice but they lack any business model, any understanding of what is acceptable/unacceptable, and any understanding of how to remedy a poor situation

I've been coming here for years as a North Melbourne Local and finally decided to write a review after visiting recently. I had intended on visiting a cafe up the road who was completely full so came to Elceed (who were empty at the time). Although the Menu is unchanged from the original owners - the food itself has continually declined. <br/>We ordered a Mushroom Bruschetta which came with hardly a drizzle of olive tapenade and goat's cheese that was almost non existent. The bread was two tiny slices and the prosciutto was 1 measly piece - this used to be my favourite dish, but it used to be served with 4-5 slices of prosciutto, a generous amount of tapenade and goats cheese.<br/>The baby chino was just warm milk with a dusting of chocolate - impossible for a toddler to drink/eat... it needs FROTH people, and ideally only froth.<br/>The eggs and bacon came with horribly undercooked bacon - and only 1 rasher. <br/>Considering both meals were close to $20 each (the menus on here are outdated) - it seems as though they have increased the prices, decreased the quality and quantity of the food.<br/>It's so upsetting because the actual cafe and courtyard are gorgeous, the coffee isn't terrible and it's local to me, however I just can't keep giving it chances. I don't think we'll be returning any time soon unless the menu and food gets a significant overhaul.

I love this place. It’s always extra tasty and never disappoints. Good coffee, very reasonable prices too and the decor is quaint with a quirky courtyard. I love the mushroom bruschetta which comes with candied prosciutto, olives, rocket and goats cheese on sourdough.

Had my best coffee in Melbourne there last year. <br/>Have been thinking about going back.<br/>The design of the cafe is neat but stylish.<br/>I really like the lights there. <br/>I enjoyed the view from the inside to the outside through the big clean window, it feels peaceful.

Interesting menu. The smashed avocado and smashed peas looked delicious but the pumpkin salad I ordered was a bit disappointing. The flavours weren't bad but the pumpkin was very mushy and it probably could have done with a few more ingredients just for balance and texture.
Alexis Chan
Smoked salmon mixed with avocado. I prefer to have 2 separating things.<br/>Goat's cheese cream is plain.<br/>The whole dish is lower than average.<br/>I came here just because the chief of T&S was late and I was in a hurry

Elceed has this old rustic cafe atmosphere in a quieter place at North Melbourne. The waiter staff is friendly and apologetic enough that misunderstood dishes we ordered even though we asked what is recommended. Like the latte that looks like flat white because they split a few foam.<br/>We ordered:<br/>Smoked Salamon - 3/5 <br/>Light and delicious, somehow lacks some flavour<br/>Corn Fritters - 3/5<br/>Little bit heavy and delicious, missing prosciutto, mushroom or bacon. Free poached egg is a bonus.<br/>Grilled Chicken Burger - 2.5/5 <br/>Light and delicious burger, missing fries to complete the burger meal. Why is there a wooden board with so much space? <br/><br/>Overall, I enjoy this rustic cafe atmosphere. Not sure i can remember the dishes, but I'll have a latte on a weekend afternoon.<br/>

Good place for a nice brunch. The food is good. I tried the 🌽 fritters and loved it. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. Order a cup of babycino if you have a child with you. It's nice and insta-worthy. The lighting in the shop is nice too with sunlight streaming in, making for good photos.

Elceed is located at the quieter side of north melbourne. Small rustic cafe. It was quiet on early Saturday morning with a few people waiting for coffee takeaway. The wait staff are friendly but clearly they are understaffed as we waited about almost half an hour for our coffee to arrive. Good coffee though. We ordered the Chefs special which was the cheddar & spring onion scrambled eggs with hummus filled avocado and almond croissant to share. Food was good but a tad expensive for what it was. $6 for almond croissant and $18 for eggs and avocado.
Egg Is Okay
Service was quick and friendly. Didn't have to wait long for the food to come out however it wasn't particularly busy. The coffee was really good, quite creamy how I like it. Got the smashed avo with a poached egg. Flavours were all on point and not overly rich or salty. Chunks of avo was nice too. Egg was well poached. Would come here again.

The pulled pork burger is the best I have ever tried hands down! I judged this place harshly by the fake plants on the tables outside, which are a little kitsch, but inside is a whole different story and I was surprised by how adorable the inside/courtyard are. We had coffee, which was delicious and there was a pretty rosetta on my flat white. The two girls that served us were both really lovely and knew the menu really well. Such a good alternative to auction rooms. Will definitely be back now I know about this little gem!
Matthew
Great little cafe tucked away down Queensbury St in North Melbourne. The food is excellent and it has great coffee. Nice courtyard out the back. A lot easier to get a seat than the auction rooms and better.

This is more of an FYI for coeliacs. <br/>I ordered the smashed avacado on gluten free toast. The meal was just fine, delicious in fact. However, when I ordered I asked if the meal was safe for coeliacs and if there was any cross contamination. I was confidently told it was all safe and there was no cross contamination. <br/>Nope! <br/>Afterwards (because they were so assuring earlier) I asked someone else how they cooked their toast and I was told in the same toaster as the normal bread. But that it was ok because other coeliacs had done the same and they were fine and maybe I was extra allergic. <br/>Sorry no. <br/>I let them know it's not an allergy and that both my nutritionist and Coeliac Australia both advise on using a seperate toaster or toaster bags. Not just to me, but all coelias. <br/>The worker there tried to point out that the "crumbs would fall down"...<br/>Again no. <br/>I felt a bit like someone without the disease was trying to tell me what was safe. I don't blame her for not knowing, but wonder why she would rather brush me off than take it seriously.<br/>I asked that they don't tell people it is safe for Coeliacs and that it's not their fault that the industry has caught up with what is actually safe. Sure it's not their fault I have to be so careful about eating, but the short and long term effects are very problematic. I wasn't going to leave a review but then I got sick, and all too often there are not enough coeliac friendly/unfriendly reviews. I know they don't know that coeliacs present symptoms in different ways, and some not at all, but that doesn't prevent internal damage. No it's not an allergy, it's a disease, I'd eat gluten if I could!

I heard this place is under new management so I thought Id give it a try. When I arrived the lunch special caught my eye, Zucchini and Feta fritters. The service and staff were great along with the coffee! Overall I would recommend this cafe to all of my friends
Chris
Yet another single shop fronted cafe serving breakfast and lunch with a courtyard at the back. Haven't I reviewed a similar type before? These quaint little places are becoming all too similar and familiar in the neighbourhood. Food wise is as usual. Had a BLAT, which is a BLAT. It does its job. Coffee is good too. <br/>The inner suburb is becoming very popular with younger set of clientele mostly locals who live in the area. These cafes like Elceed are also kept busy. This is good for the local businesses and for us who are spoilt for choice.

Gotta love Sundays for free parking. Sure beats walking half an hour from the CBD.  Sasha and I had seen Elceed the couple of times we were at Twenty & Six Espresso and had always said one day we'd give it a try. One day had come. We were shown a table around the back. The interior of Elceed was rustic and reminiscent of a vintage, sun-filled kitchen.  <br/><br/>I chose to have the Brioche French Toast with baked apple, bacon and maple syrup. This was one of the thickest pairs of brioche French toasts I've had. They were very eggy, the inside soft and almost egg custard-like. The toasts sat like an island in a sea of maple syrup, topped off with salty bacon and slices of baked apple. It was sweet and the serving generous - I couldn't finish it, but Sasha was happy to dive in.<br/><br/>Sasha had the Baked Eggs with sourdough, tomato cous cous and fetta and she added bacon. This dish was pretty average. Sasha wasn't that keen on the tomato cous cous. It tasted solely of tomato - it seemed like it needed seasoning, just something to bring out the flavour. The eggs on the other hand, were perfectly done with nice runny yolks.  <br/><br/>Elceed is a quaint, lesser known brunch spot in North Melbourne. It was not overly busy for Sunday brunch and does offer decent coffees and all your usual suspects for brekkie.

Only had coffee which is pretty good, service friendly. Would maybe give it a go for food if I was in the area, maybe. But worth stopping for a coffee on the way to work

A lovely little cafe which is warm and inviting and has a cute outside area too. The menu mainly consists of breakfast-type items, with a few salad/burger/pie options for lunch. All meals had good elements but perhaps just that few dollars too much to consider it good value. The burger, whilst tasty, was assembled in a way that made it difficult to eat. The chicken salad had no pesto discernible, and was too sweet with the caramelised onions plus some sort of sweet dressing. Notably, the eggs with the hollandaise were perfectly poached. It took a while for the food to come so perhaps not the idea place of a quick lunch break. Solid, but not that great value and the menu is largely variations of eggs and bread - so, more a breakfast/brunch place than a lunch place.

Absolutely loved this place for a cosy breakfast on Sunday morning. All staff were incredibly welcoming and allowed just the right amount of time for us to browse the menu, order coffees and then meals. The Parmesan Smash was delicious; the two poached eggs that sat upon the stack of sourdough toast and smashed peas and parmesan were cooked to perfection. Lovely atmosphere. Will be back!

Was craving some good Eggs Benedict so decided to give this cute cafe a go. The moment I walked in I gots warm hello from a gentleman. Decided to order the Smokey Harissa Hollandaise, adding bacon and salmon. Whilst I was waiting the waiter came and told me there was already prosciutto in the dish, how nice of him to tell me :). <br/>Anyways the dish was really nice, I love the rocket!! The sauce was delicious, service and staff were really friendly. :) very nice cafe!

One of my most favourite places in north Melbourne . One of the cafe's I keep wanting to go back to. Love the mushrooms on toast and their fresh juices are the BEST!!
Aeroo
Service was quick. Nice and warm. However there were issues. Coffee was not acceptable, machine probably in desperate need of a backflush. Long black was not drinkable. Salad tasted a bit old and as though it had been sitting in its own dressing overnight. Tart was on the soggy side. Staff were friendly. Although I must agree with with other reviews, the random guy who appears to be the owner does not fit in with the style of the place and mills around awkwardly.

Cute little breakfast cafe. <br/><br/>I had a vegetarian version of the 'Smokey Harissa Hollandaise', opting for mushrooms and avocado instead of prosciutto. Good flavours, except for the tomato. My friend had 'Brioche French Toast' minus the bacon. Coffee and chai latte were a miss.<br/><br/>Quick and pleasant service, but I agree with the below review about the gentleman whom appears to run the show. Nobody likes being watched like a hawk, especially in such a small space.

Thought I'd try this place again, having had an average experience here battling a tough as nails slice of bread holding up some OK eggs a couple of years back. "Under new management" it says here on Zomato. Hmmm. The staff and food are good - pleasant, friendly people serving the usual breakfast/brunch stuff. However, they need to do something about the person who greets you at the door! This man, who looks to be either the manager or owner, nervously flits about and seems to make the customers and other staff uncomfortable. He certainly gave me indigestion! Relax man - this is Melbourne inner city... Smoke a doobie.
World In A Bite
Been here many times ... Service is ok ... I always ordered corn fritters (not very crunchy but good combination with pesto) ... The size seems to get smaller and smaller... Good coffee and patisseries

Solid Melbourne brunch spot. Good food, good service, and nice ambience.<br/><br/>Ordered the lunch specials the two times I've been here. The current one is excellent - zucchini bread with rhubarb compote, roasted kale, and pumpkin. Absolutely fantastic flavours!<br/>Would recommend.

Found Elceed on Zomato since the cafe we originally wanted to go to was closed (due to the Christmas holiday break). And wow am I glad we stumbled upon this gem! Everything we ordered tasted amazing and was filled with lots of flavour. A let down though would be the iced chocolate but the lemon lime & bitters was spot on! 👌🏻 Elceed has definitely become one of our favourite brunch places to eat at and we would definitely come back. Recommend to everyone and definitely worth the travel 💯

Beautiful!! Amazing atmosphere, great coffee and the smoky harridan hollandaise is without a doubt the best breakfast I have had in a while! Plus the gluten free bread tastes not only like real bread but the perfect crusty addition to the meal. Thanks heaps!!
The Foodie Mummy
Went for a walk on my lunch break and came across this place, service was average, ordered the all day breakfast special and an iced coffee. Iced coffee was not bad but when i recieved my meal, it went from not bad to plain bad. Poached egg was normal, the dukkah was great however the sourdough bread was so tough that my jaw hurt after having two slices. The rocket was so dry and plain and the eggplant.. well lets just say i had to second think if it was cooked in cleaning products and not oil. Prices were average, spent 22 regrettable dollars. Probably will only back for coffee and maybe a sweet.

This is a classic "they changed it now it sucks!" review. Ahhh Elceed, RIP. New management have come along. Years waiting for a menu change, and when it comes everything goes downhill with it. The charismatic wait staff have gone. The interior has been stuffed up - the ugly brick wall wallpaper is horrific. The music is awful. And the menu!!! So plain. I ordered a regular latte, 15 minutes later I got an iced latte. I ordered the lunch special, 45 minutes later I received the breakfast special - so that was another 15 before I could get the meal I actually wanted. The waitress who DIDN'T serve me was very gracious and apologetic, so that was a bonus. Basically, shitty little things that wouldn't annoy me if the place didn't used to be fantastic and full or personality. However there is so much competition in North Melbourne that are much better than what this place has become - I won't be back.
Ceci Casillas
I used to love this place a few years ago and it was very upsetting to go today and see that is has changed so much. Food was pretty boring and tasteless and the music was so annoying. I don't think I will be going back again.

A very quaint place that opens up and is very warm once you move through the entrance. The staff were lovely and it's always great to see an open kitchen with the chefs at work. <br/>While only small the place has a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere and attracts plenty of customers. <br/>My piccolo was spot on and it's always nice when the wait staff bring it to you with a smile.<br/>Plenty of newspapers lying around is also a must for cafes and these guys ticked that box.<br/>Well worth a stop in!
Simple Eats
One of the cutest little cafes I've been to and definitely a gem in the North Melbourne cafe scene. I was so excited when I saw the French toast on the menu, and oh boy was it mighty delicious!! Everything about it was cooked to pure perfection and the baked apples were a wonderful feature for my tastebuds. The staff working were also such wonderful hosts. I can't wait to return... and please keep the French toast on the menu forever :)

When you leave a cafe after brunch and you're still hungry, it's a little bit sad.<br/>I have to say, the service here is great, really nice community feel to it and everyone is really friendly - the outdoor area is really nice and the coffee is actually very good but unfortunately, for the price of the food we found it a little disappointing. <br/>I would come back for a coffee if there was space in the courtyard (the indoor space is nice but I do love a good courtyard!) and could probably be talked into trying the food again but not keen to rush back.
Amy Trengove
Love this place! Great coffee, banana bread, takeaway sweets, breakfast of high quality and lots of variety. Staff accommodating and friendly.
Notrocketscience
Great food and lovely friendly staff. If you're put off by the airs of Auction Rooms and Twenty & Six, Elceed is for you. Only negatives, the coffee is a little hot and I'm not entirely convinced about the new decor changes (the doormat is especially sad).

Funky cafe in North Melbourne with some great staff & great food ! Had one of the specials for breakfast "oh, kale" ( I think that's what it was called, came with poached eggs, kale, goats cheese & chilli👌🏼) It was super tasty, fresh & delicious. Heaven on the tastebuds ! It was my first time there for breakfast & I have to say I will be back for more delicious food with my homies ✌🏼️❤️
Mouthing Off
A small little café located in North Melbourne, Elceed<br/>seemed to offer reasonable prices and a variety of breakfast dishes. As far as<br/>the café went the place was pretty empty at 10am on Father’s Day. Staff were<br/>friendly enough but not overly attentive. Toilets were outside in the form of<br/>outhouses which wasn’t a highlight of my Melbourne winters day. <br/><br/>The special of poached eggs on toast with avocado & mint<br/>smash, beetroot cream cheese and a mint gremolata caught my eye. At $18.50 I<br/>went against my stingy gut and took a chance. “Meh” is probably the best way to<br/>describe it. It was neither here nor there. I don’t think it was anything<br/>special and can’t imagine worth the extra $$$$ compared with most other regular<br/>menu options priced between $14.50 and $17.50. I wouldn’t rush back given there<br/>are so many other cafes nearby, but if I were to drift this way again I’d<br/>probably give the corn fritters a crack.

Absolute Gem. Elceed has become a firm favourite, whether for coffee or for breakfast. The food is beautiful, the coffee is really good and the level of service just right.
Coffee Dad
Cute spot right off the Main Street of North Melbourne but without the pretention of some of the more well known spots. Easily the best coffee in the area and definitely the friendliest and most attractive staff. Hit the courtyard area with some shakshuka and loved it

I love brunching, like really really love it, but I have to admit it’s a fairly new love affair. In times gone by, the idea of visiting a busy café where we’d have to contend with a crowd and weren’t guaranteed to get a table all before midday, was just a bit too much for me to stomach. However, the birth of my son last year spelt the end of my nightlife (Bye bye dinner dates, boohoo!) so I’ve grown to really appreciate all things lunch and brunch.

Love the rotating specials!. Small venue with an even smaller kitchen but don't let that fool you! Food comes out quick and is really good. The rotating specials make the experience worth coming back for - waiting for 'The Egyptian' to return. Yum! Avo-toast on the regular menu is amazing ☺

This place is great! The menu is creative, and the food is delish. <br/>Highly recommend!

Favourite Melbourne café. The service is exceptional each of my experiences at Elceed. Coffee is not expensive when compared to other Melbourne venues and definitely worth every bit of what you pay. <br/>Food is amazing and is always healthy and wholesome, generous serving sizes in my experiences as well. <br/>It has become one if my favourite cafes in Melbourne.

OUTSTANDING. Popped into elceed the other day for a nice lunch with my child and the café was outstanding, great service, great food, GREAT coffee and I have raved about it to everyone I know and strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice lunch in North Melbourne.<br/>I'm pleased to say I'm definitely going to be back!!

Best Coffee. Friendly service, home style cafe food, best ever coffee and do a great Soy Latte!

Elceed Exceeds. A homely feel amid the bustle, Elceed delivered an outstanding lunch experience. The corn fritters were lovingly constructed, with fresh and wholesome toppings. The service was friendly and unpretentious, with recommendations given freely without the feeling of imposition. <br/>The gluton-free chocolate cake was devine, with fresh cream adorning the delicate sweet. <br/>It was my first visit. And it was impressive. I'll return, and hope that the high standard is maintained.

Be prepared to wait. Make sure you have time to wait. Our food took just under an hour to come out. Eggs and toast should not take that long.<br/><br/><br/>-----28 Feb, 2015-----<br/><br/>The wait... Food is too simple for the wait to be this long.
Munching Baiyun
Upon entering the shop, it was busy, hustling bustling with people's chatter, the smell of coffee and the sight of staffs cooking and serving the food. It was a lot to take in for a second, but because it wasn't too crowded, it didn't affect me a lot!
Hungrycookie
Elceed is a cosy low-key café, sheltered from the hustle and bustle of brunch crowds... it certainly is refreshing to relax at Elceed, and not have to be concerned about table turnover. Food is top notch too.

Had a great lunch a couple of weeks back at Elceed, another highly-rated cafe located along Queensberry Street. We went at lunchtime on a Sunday and were seated in the pretty and cozy courtyard. Thankfully no one was smoking, as it would definitely ruin our meal. The food took quite a while to come, but I’d say it’s worth the wait!

Elceed is located in Queensberry St in North Melbourne and is a cosy cafe that is buzzing with activity. There is warmth as well as colour at Elceed, which has mismatched tables in various colours and yellow 1970s chairs. There is also an outside courtyard area with ladders and is a sort of urban chic. G and I had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated as this quite a popular venue for Sunday breakkie/brunch. The small wait was forgotten once we were seated and served our warm beverages – we both had Chai Lattes. The menu is a mix of cuisines in each dish but this variety I think is great. It shows a place willing to try out different combinations and experiment. There is a Paprika spiced Chicken Burger, Brioche French Toast, Pie of the day or Smokin’ Eggs from their Menu and a board full of specials. It was on this specials board that I found my dish – Indian Spice Pumpkin Scone with Poached Eggs, Pesto, Tomato Salsa & Feta. G went for the Corn Fritters with Sour Cream, Salsa, Rocket &

Andrew Moore, Just enquirin.... Andrew Moore,<br/>Just enquiring to your comment regarding price <br/>Poached eggs on toast 9.5<br/>Chorizo 3.5 <br/>So there is a total of $13<br/>For a breakfast you have described as $18 possibly included a coffee and even a cake for that price????<br/>If you were over charged we would of been happy to work it out then and there, <br/>Sorry that you have had a unsatisfied experience.<br/>Regarding Rocket- personal choice, never goes out of season, and it's delicious.
Andrew Moore
Nice enough, quaint cafe however my main problem is that there are several places nearby in Nth Melbourne that do breakfast so much better and cheaper. I mean, $14.50 for poached eggs on toast?? Add (half) a chorizo and you're up to $18. The food itself is ok, coffee is ok, service is fair, but considering what else is on offer within walking distance, there's not enough to keep me coming back - particularly for the premium. Oh and why does so much of the menu feature rocket??
Dharmawan Djohanli
Highly Recommended. I live close to it, and I went there a few times. I like their menu, and the food is very nice, the staffs are also very friendly.<br/>Once I ordered a mushroom bruschetta with poached egg, and I ordered a fully cooked egg. The chef cooked it late, however they gave me the egg without charging it to my bill, and I just paid cheaper price from the menu price.<br/>Very highly recommended! Nice food, and nice people at Elceed.

I ordered the Himalayan Eggs from the specials board which sounded extremely promising, with smashed avocado, two poached eggs and rocket on sourdough. However, I was pretty surprised when it came and the eggs just fit on the tiny slice of bread. The portion was ridiculously small for $18 and the avo smash was barely noticeable.

Food was good but disappointed with the 45min wait for it to arrive... Supposedly a child friendly place (and the staff were) but 45min is a very long time for a toddler to sit still waiting for their food!
Amy Jackman
Where do I start! The service was great, always checked if we were okay for drinks and how we were going. The staff were very happy, bubbly friendly people. The food was amazing I would recommend the praprika chicken burger or the corn frittas. I will definitely be going back and recommending this place to all my friends! 10/10

This place! So good. Best hangover (or not) brekky in North Melbourne. Suoer rad staff and a funky setup that leads out to a sun filled back room and quirky outdoor area. All the neighbours are good but this place is the best

Fantastic breakfast, wanted to order the whole menu.

Yum, yum, yum!. Yum! Coffee is delicious, food is amazing. I have had two things on the brekky menu so far and they have both been great, and I want to try everything on the menu it all sounds so amazing. Service has been good both times as well. No complaints at all. <br/><br/>Edit 4th march 2017: I think it's changed hands. Eggs were well undercooked, stale bread. They took it off the bill so I was happy with that. Boyfriend's French toast was "ok but basic" in his words. We will be avoiding from now on

Great customer service, good coffee and my friend really enjoyed her meal (mushroom bruschetta) but I was a bit disappointed with my meal the BLAT. The bread was only two small slices of the Coles loafs, usually for a BLAT of the same price you're given a much more generous portion. The avocado serving was reasonable but the plate was 70% lettuce.

Good brunch!. Visited Elceed to have a birthday lunch with the birthday boy-who does not eat brunch very often. Everyone loved their dish especially the birthday boy! The restaurant is nicely decorated and has a quirky details such as the plastic dinosaur figures in the vase. Overall a good experience and will definitely come again and again!

Supreme Sunday. My boyfriend and I decided to take ourselves to Elceed in North Melbourne this Sunday for our usual breaky outing. Normally we go to the Auction Rooms or Twenty and Six Espresso but after a few weeks of the same thing we decided on Elceed. It has been much overlooked as a great breakfast spot in North Melbourne. With a spacious yet cosy interior and staff that are happy at work, it was an extremely pleasant experience.<br/>We had a Magic and a Long Mac, both of which were made to perfection. Three coffees EACH later we opted for the Feild Gruyere dish and the special French toast which had rhubarb, pistachios, yoghurt, lemon curd, and of course a decadent amount of maple syrup. The servings were generous and unfortunately we were too full, but kept picking anyway. The cafe was bustling this Sunday and every table was full which was a good indication we had picked the right place. The staff were friendly and chatty and we did not feel rushed to free up our table. All in all this was a 10/10 experience for us and we will definitely be returning. Thank you Elceed!

Great vibes. Visited this place the other day with my girlfriend and her friends from out of town. They were stoked that we'd taken them somewhere so nice. It's got a really relaxed atmosphere and the décor is pretty funky without going over-the-top. I got chatting with the owner who's super friendly and told her we'd be back next weekend to explore more of what's on the menu!

My husband & I went for breakfast on Sunday 8th April. Arrived around 945am, place was constant, but in no way flat out. We were served with a menu & coffee order straight away which was great. Unfortunately 25 minutes later, the coffee still hadn't arrived, no one came back to check on us or even take our food order. We got up & left after half a hour of waiting, doubt anyone even noticed. With so many great breakfast spots in North Melbourne Elceed can't afford to treat customers with such a lack of respect. Won't be back.
Nice King
The coffee was good , but unfortunately I thought food was overpriced for what it was ...

Morning malaise. Staff were a little rude and thoughtless. Didn't think to offer heating up a takeaway BLAT and managed to get a very simple coffee order wrong. Sadly disappointing.

Yay. Have passed Elceed on one too many occasions without going in and getting some food. Finally I decided to go try it out and yumm I am so glad that I live in this neighbourhood. Delicious food, fresh, lovely service and very cute interior. Will be coming back!

Thumbs up.. Such a cosy cafe. Loved the little courtyard. It felt so homey.

Went on a Sunday for breakky. Waited ages for our food. Put this down it being busy. When the food arrived it was good - I recommend the pea and Parmesan smash. <br/><br/>Gave it another go on a weekday morn, there was only one other customer but still took ages for food. Yum though.

Great coffee!. Delicious supreme coffee. I had a strong skinny latte and it was "supreme" ;) <br/>haven't eaten there yet, but the menu looks amazing!

The devil's own prosciutto. The candied prosciutto is a little miracle. I know, I know, it sounds weird. You have to try it for yourself. The sweetness balances perfectly with the mushrooms, olive and goats cheese. It's a dish of deep and twisted genius - fried, fatty, sugar-coated meat for breakfast!<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the service is pretty slow, but the staff are sweet and you can tell it's because they're madly busy, not because they don't care. The seating is a bit odd with one big table taking up a lot of space, but the three outdoor tables are nice if the weather plays along.

Really great coffee, great chai latte. Friendly attentive service, well priced. I had the haloumi with poached eggs and roasted tomato. Delicious!

Eh - didn't even get to try the food. One Sunday, with the wait at twenty & six a bit too long, my two friends and I wanted some food and a nice place to sit. The bf (who was not with us) is too loyal to 20&6 to give this place a go but I thought I can't be so judgemental without trying them first. <br/>Well - first of all, they said there were no seats even though there was a table outside. It was too much trouble to try and fit a third seat behind the designated outdoor seating zone. We sat and waited and waited and then another couple next to us were told the wait on food would be 30-45 mins. Lucky we overheard as we weren't told this information. After a coffee was ordered we were studiously ignored by all staff. <br/>Decided to get our coffee to takeaway cos clearly they didn't want to serve us food. <br/>Took our takeaways and got us delicious treats from Beatrix. <br/>That'll teach me to ignore my boyfriends instincts! I'm ok with slow service when it's busy and the staff keep you informed. In this case, it was all a bit lackadaisical and indifferent. <br/>Sorry Elceed - I trust your food is tasty but first impressions really do count

Great food and coffee. If you have to be forced to take breakfast out of your home, Elceed has a menu interesting enough to make it worth your while.

I tried Elceed today for the first time and it was a nice introduction. I had the banana, raspberry and walnut loaf that came with a raspberry and rhubarb compote. It was delicious! So much so that I completely over ate, but it was worth it! My boyfriend had the poached eggs, haloumi and chorizo, he said it was really good, but could have used a sauce (he's a bit Manu that way). The staff were attentive and friendly. Would recommend and will be back!

Undecided. A nice place, small but airy. The French toast special I had was absolutely delicious however my partner had the poached eggs on toast which was very average. The coffee wasn't too flash either. Important to get the basics right.

Sunny courtyard styles. Not being a regular to North Melbourne, I'd driven past this place a few times and thought it looked pretty small from the outside. Given my friend raves about this café, my partner and I decided to give it a go on her recommendation. Four people at almost lunchtime on a busy Sunday..here I was thinking oh no they'll be packed..but no worries. We were greeted by a super friendly staff member and seated within 5 minutes in a clean sunny charismatic courtyard. We did wait a while for our breakfasts - but it was worth it. We all had something different - but my brioche French toast was definitely a stand out in comparison to other cafes. Poached apple and bacon adorned the cinnamon coated thick toast, not one to like to be overwhelmed with bacon - I felt satisfied with the size and didn't leave feeling overly full with grease and sweet treats for breakfast! It was hard to decide what to have as the menu was just heaving with different options and everyone at the table was pretty happy with what they had. I am definitely going back!

Excellent breakfast and service. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

Decided to try Elceed today and absolutely loved it! Sat in the perfect cosy window spot for a rainy Melbourne day. The staff were all friendly and attentive. Definitely had one of the best coffees in North Melb. I had the mushroom bruschetta which was lovely. Will be coming back!

*THIS IS NOT A REVIEW, THIS IS A REPLY THE THE PREVIOUS REVIEW POSTED.<br/><br/>Marty,<br/>I'm very sorry that you had a bad experience at Elceed. It hurts me that you were made to feel that way in my cafe; my little pride and joy. I wasn't present on that day, however I would have preferred you tell me (the owner) about this incident in person. As you mentioned, you work in the industry so you can understand how important feedback is, has how much it can contribute to your business. I hope you reconsider your decision to never come back.<br/><br/>Please contact me (Hannah) on <br/>03 9326 8648 - business hours. I would love to talk about it further.

Detestable customer service. I have ventured into Elceed on a few occasions and found this to be a " little gem" in North Melbourne however after a visit today i can assure you i will NEVER RETURN. The chef or lady with dark hair is the rudest staff person i have witnessed in a hospitality enviroment, i work in this industry and im stunned an individual like this is employed. from the moment we entered the cafe she was extremely rude, everything was too hard, snide remarks and a scowl that would frighten a small child. the blonde lady and asian guy working were really great, but as for the lady mentioned above she is clearly in the wrong industry, to make a group of people feel extremely uncomfortable and then ask us " if we were having anything else, as they needed the table and asked us to finish up" is just not good enough. In a small bustling North Melbourne there are some terrific cafes i would certainly be trying to leave a positive impression with everyone that visits. I will be letting my friends and family know that frequent elceed about this, as i dont think any paying customer should have to put up with this behaviour.

A bit rude. "We don't refill hot water for teas on weekends"<br/>"We need the table back now"<br/>Quite a long wait on Saturday morning for food (30mins)<br/>There is also no ventilation. Your clothes will stink of oil and spices when you come out. The food is good and good value though. Perhaps visit off peak.

Love this place. One of the best in North Melbourne. Down home, cosy and home-cooked food made with love. Love it!

Awesomeness. I'd have to say a warm cafe like this one is a welcome change for North Melbourne.<br/>Came in with two friends and were looked after well by the friendly staff - had the corn fritters with bacon - surprisingly generously sized and really satisfying! There's also heaps of interesting sweet items on offer - which in itself will keep me coming back I think.
