Review Sakura Kaiten Sushi Ii - Melbourne

Johnny Le
Sakura is probably one of the better sushi trains we've been to. The sushi is so yum and fresh. Missed the five star mark because the service felt super rushed. We didn't get a chance to interact with staffs or ask any questions. Unlike other sushi places, there was no ginger to take. We had to ask the staffs and they returned with two packages. We ate about $100+ worth of sushi, so it did feel a bit stingy of them to only give us two. The experience would've definitely been better with friendlier service. I recommend this place for great food though.
David Wnek
The variety in offerings makes Sakura an excellent choice for those looking to try many types of sushi. Prices are reasonable and the quality is solid, though perhaps not jaw dropping. The conveyor belt setup is charming and efficient, making for an authentic but approachable Japanese sushi experience.

Now my favourite sushi train in Melbourne. Everything is delicious, fast and reasonably priced for the quality. Definitely recommend.

Cheap sushi train but you definitely sacrifice a bit of the quality. Better value for money from Tokui Sushi a few metres down the road. However for the sushi train experience, it’s an easy recommendation. Nothing truly stand out though.

It was known as cheap sushi place so I was surprised that most of nigiri we had were $5.8 . Expensive! And that's not even counting the 10% surcharge for weekend, which we're not informed on the door. sashimi was fresh but so small portion which is fair for price of $7.6.. their sakura salmon roe not so good. Unagi cream cheese roll ($6.8) was good. the unique thing bout this place is they do unique fashion of sushi with Mexican style which I didn't try. And did I mention how small the sushi portion is? After a long queue for the place, not worth it.. we ended up with $45 per person without any drink and not even full, just shocked

Always has a good services and top quality of food. Fish never has a bad smell. Staff always nice and friendly. Very recommended this restaurant.

I'm really torn about this place. On the one hand it has a good atmosphere and really good sushi but on the other hand the plate prices were not clearly displayed which led to me being a bit horrified at my bill. I went here as a treat to myself after completing a 48hr fast as sushi is a healthy light food. I had searched online for the best sushi train joints in Melbourne and this place was mentioned consistently. I was pleased with what I saw when I walked in. It had a warm, clean Japanese vibe to it. The staff all also spoke to each other in Japanese which I think is a good sign. Whilst it is a sushi train restaurant there is also an extensive menu available through QR code ordering and is how I ordered a beer. I then hoed into the sushi which was all very fresh and being prepared by the sushi chef in front of diners. There was a really good selection and it was difficult to fault. I reckon I had about 15 plates or so. After 48 hours of not eating I pretty much inhaled the first few! When it came time to pay, the bill amounted to over $100 which as I said horrified me a bit, although decent sushi train is never cheap. Each to his own of course but to my mind, for that sort of money i would have preferred to eat somewhere a little less casual. If you don't mind casual dining for good quality sushi at fairly hefty prices then I would recommend this place.

This review is for their new location on Little Lonsdale St! Such a great location and beautiful interior, and OMG they have fresh Saba (which is so hard to come by). Love this place! And now with fresh ginger ❤️

Insta: melbfoodie_mark<br/>YT: MelbFoodieMark<br/>-<br/>Wow! Amazing sushi restaurant. I liked the sushi train which added authenticity. Slightly expensive but considering the quality, it's very fair. A huge selection to choose from (and you can easily order specifically what you want using ipod infront of you!) :) Absolutely loved Grilled Scallop Nigiri and Grilled Yellowtail Nigiri with Miso sauce. They just melted in my mouth. Highly recommend!
JOELLE
Def one of the best sushi train in Melbourne<br/>And tbh it's pretty similar to the first outlet on little collins.<br/>The quality of the nigiris were definitely one of the best in town.<br/>I just looove their seared scallop nigiri as it just melts in your mouth!<br/>They have a pretty good variety of sushis to choose from too.<br/>One thing i really like is the fact that they make fresh sushi when you order on the tablet and not just pick it up from the train like many places do.<br/><br/>Unfortunately you have to pay for ginger and water which isn't very nice.<br/><br/>Follow for more xx

Used to be my favourite Sushi restaurant in Melbourne, not any more. Sushi and nigiri gets smaller and smaller everytime and the tempura udon in soup tasted just like soy sauce with hot water. Speaking of WATER, they're a licensed restaurant which serves alcohol but do NOT give out tap water for free, if you're thirsty from the food, you'll have to buy water from them. I asked why they do not give out tap water, the manager explained it's because of coronavirus...(?), never going again!
Nheyy
More expensive than other sushi trains but they have a good range of nigiris and gunkans not available at other places, and the slices of fish are slightly bigger here. My favourite ones are usually the aburi nigiri but the mayo was overpowering in both amount and taste, so I couldn't really tasted the grilled seafood in any of the ones I tried. I'd come back for the tuna belly though.<br/><br/>Seating is a bit cramped and probably better suited for solo diners.
Kevin & Emily
Consistently the best tasting, freshest sushi train in Melbourne with the best range of options too. Whether your appetite is after some salmon, tuna, eel, scallop, crab and anything in between, the sheer variety per fish is sensational as it is tasty.<br/><br/>This is easily my favourite sushi train in Melbourne and every time I try it, I am reminded constantly of how good it really is. Perfect sauces and combinations of flavours make for an amazing experience for your taste buds. My favourites are the salmon with cream cheese and the scallops.<br/><br/>Whilst you can find similar assortments in similar establishments, it is rare to have ALL dishes taste remarkable, not compensating for lack of taste in anything. The best sushi in town for sure, cannot recommend this enough!<br/><br/>Food: 5/5<br/>Service: 3.5/5<br/>Ambience: 4/5<br/>Value: 4/5<br/><br/>Overall: 4.5/5

A bit pricier than other sushi trains but the quality of the sushi served was worth it. Loved the interior and large collection of dragon ball z figurines. Would return.

The space is too narrow for people sitting at the bar. The waitress didn’t ask whether we would like to seat and didn’t care whether we can sit in the narrow space. The space at the bar she leaded us to was just suitable to be seated by one person comfortably but she arranged two people to seat in there. So uncomfortable for all customers seating together along the bar. Everyone was seating shoulder by shoulder narrowly and not privacy at all. The design for seating space is horrible.

A sushi train worth visiting! I love all things aburi and Sakura Kaiten has a great selection! I especially enjoy their aburi salmon belly and its always fun watching the sushi circle around on the sushi train. A pretty casual spot with fresh selection and if you order 5 times on the iPad you can play the roulette game and possibly win yourself some free dessert! My favourite thing here is actually the mochi ice cream. It is sooo good and I always get a plate, maybe even two after all the good savoury stuff. It’s slightly pricier in comparison to other sushi trains but it still tastes great.

<br/>• Sushi Train <br/>• 15 dishes including desert <br/>• The ingredients were fresh. I love all the grilled/ seared dishes, especially grilled eel with cream cheese. <br/>• The green tea mochi was delicious (a large scoop of matcha ice cream is nicely wrapped in a thin rice dough). <br/>#sushitrain#japanesesushi#sushi#japanesemochi#melbournesushi#melbournelunch#zomatoaus#melbournefoodblogger#grilledsalmon

A good friend told be about this place. finally we gave it ago today. It was tasty, fast and fun. They have the small machine on your table that allows you to order their special etc. Your order will be delivered by a small ‘bus’ that would stop infront of your table. It was fun :) You probably will have to wait for a bit during lunch time, but it wouldn’t be too long. It’s pretty hard to find a good sushi train place .. but this one should definitely one of the good one to go. Good value of money you wouldn’t be disappointed

Always my go to when I have dinner with friends or dates ;) Sakura has a fun energy and is always buzzing, it’s also got really nice lighting so it can be romantic without being too serious. The food is always constantly amazing and fresh and all the staff are so kind and lovely! I adore you Sakura !!!
Sunny Days Melbourne
Sakura Kaiten Sushi....where have you been all my life? This tiny little sushi train shop along Lonsdale Street is quite authentic. <br/><br/>Staff were friendly and accommodating. The sushi train was constantly being replenished with fresh items. I'm not sure why some dishes were not covered - it seemed slightly unhygienic to me. <br/><br/>I loved the iPad ordering system and the cute red double decker bus that delivered our order. This was reminiscent of a sushi shop we visited in Tokyo. Everything we had was lovely and fresh. <br/><br/>My only 2 gripes are that the restaurant felt a little squishy and the food was quite expensive given the serving sizes. <br/><br/>Having said all that though, it was a lovely enough experience!
Some Bunee Loves Food
Lobster sushi wrapped in salmon from the sushi train. The lobster meat was in small bits, cold and a bit sweet in the sauce, perfect when combined with the fresh salmon pieces.<br/><br/>My favourite - "no 1 roll" Seared salmon with tuna..mmm :))<br/>Slightly grilled salmon sashimi mexican spicy style!<br/>
Willtravelforfood17
My favourite sushi train in Melbourne. The food is so fresh and they always have interesting different sushis that other sushi trains don’t have. The grilled nigiris are always melt in the mouth and they have uni which is one of my favourites. I love ordering from the ipad on the table as it is so easy to use and if you order 5 dishes at a time you can play a game and if you win you can get a free scoop of ice cream!
Angela Fan
Quite pricy, however food was all very fresh, especially the tuna. The selection of rolls is a bit underwhelming but all made to a good quality. Gochisousamadeshita!

Tried this place for sushi train. Slightly more spacious compared to their other branch. Same concept with train and can order on a tablet. Nice food. Service is OK. Slightly more pricey compared to closer sushi places<br/><br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Service: 3/5<br/>Ambiance: 4/5

Best place for sushi in CBD, the materials are fresh and juicy. Best part is the drinks are well combined with sushi, you can ask for beer, cocktails and sake for different types of experience, or you can just be like me, “I want them all”

Beef Tataki is very good. Yuzu soda is freshing. All those dishes would speak for it self. Only i would say the seats are very squishy. Decoration of the restaurant is quite good. Staff are friendly but need to speed up a bit.
Janna Beh
Fair pricing and decent tasting sushi train. Friendly staff and good ambience. Some sushi was quite loaded with teriyaki and mayonnaise sauces, been to better sushi train places but not too bad.
Jessie Woo
Sushi so fresh here!!! Best sushi train place in the cbd hands down 😍 lots of variety and definitely worth the price. Also really cute way of delivering your sushi plates on a train reminds me of sushi trains in Japan.
Amy Flood
My first ever sushi train! <br/><br/>It didn’t disappoint. I thought it was a really fun way of eating. All the dishes comes round on the conveyable, if you can’t see one you would like you also have an iPad to order food which then comes straight to you! <br/><br/>We had multiple dishes and none of them disappointed at all!<br/><br/>Yummm
Ting Ye
The service sucks, the waitress never smile for the whole time. We ordered raw scallop, it’s not fresh. Me and my friend had diarrhea for the whole day after this. Will never come to this restaurant again.
Salma Hamid
Have come here a couple of times with friends or with my partner, delicious food that comes fast, very cool food delivery system, super friendly staff, must go again soon!!
StepiiGM
Great array of sushi, slightly pricey but the food quality definitely makes up for it. The place was compact and seating chairs were high - definitely not a good destination for heavily pregnant women :D. Tips: better order your fried foods instead of taking the ready ones.
La'Toya Lee
Really interesting and fun experience. <br/><br/>We were there for when the doors opened to get a good seat. Within 30min the place was packed. <br/><br/>Great quality fresh seafood. Smaller selection compared to other sushi trains we have been to but they make up for it with speciality items, great quality and fresh seafood. <br/><br/>The bus that serves food ordered via a tablet at your table is very cute too. If you order 5 dishes off it you get to play the mini game.
Espresso&Matcha
Having now gone on so many interstate trips with my trusty colleague, Iron Fist, we've gotten to a stage where we not only seek out new and fun places to eat at, we also make a point to revisit old favourites which have made an impression on our travels. I was fairly surprised though when he mentioned that one of the highlights in Melbourne for him was the dinner we had last year at Sakura Kaiten on Little Collins Street. I guess this must have been a popular opinion with a fair amount of locals as we realised that they opened a second store nearby along Londsdale Street, a stones throw away from work, so off we went for our lunch break.
Rifan Thamrin
Very prime location on Lonsdale St. I love the ambience - they have lots of Dragon Balls figures displayed. But most importantly, the sushi are all made by Japanese people and they have Japanese people serving! Can't be more authentic that that!
Rice Ball
Sushi trains that are cheap can compromise in quality but you really do get what you pay for here! Prices start at 2.80 - 6.80 which can seem to be steep but most dishes that appealed to us were 3.80-5.80 and paid $60 for 2 people (2 hungry people).<br/><br/>The food was really good compared to cheaper sushi grains I’ve had in the past where fish can taste funky and beef dishes too chewy. The Udon is a must try as well as the prawn nigiris, beef nigiris and cream cheese filled sushi rolls! Overall, the variety is huge and I was not disappointed!<br/><br/>The service was great as staff are very polite and quick to deliver items ordered from the tablet. However, for groups smaller than 3, counter seat can be VERY squishy. <br/><br/>Overall I liked this sushi train very much and despite the underlying thought that I’ll overspend here, the bill wasn’t too bad at all!
Ioy Joy
In my opinion, best sushi train on Melbourne. Not the cheapest one but absolutely deserves a try. Good quality of sushi and hundreds of varieties. Small place, so I recommend it for couples or small groups of friends -no more than 3.
Lorna
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: there are limited seats in this restaurant so you almost have to wait in line during peak hours - worth it! <br/><br/>🍩Lizzie enjoyed: I love their selection of sashimi’s and sushis. They even have this conveyor belt that brings you the exact plate of food you want! I love the idea of sushi train and it’s honestly one of the better ones in Melbourne. <br/><br/>🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: Each of the plates have different price tags dependent on the plate colours so some might be on the more premium and pricier end but nevertheless have quality sushi! <br/><br/>🥇Lizzie rates overall: I love coming here especially if you’re catching up with one other guest so you can share all the dishes.

Every time I have been to Melbourne will came here, really fresh and delicious, no matter store I or II, they all yummy! Friendly staff and good service.
MILTON
My favourite sushi train chain in Melbourne, also most expensive. I always liked the variety at Sakura kaiten. They have unique flavours. It’s a bit easy to go overboard at a sushi train, but what can I say, you go a bit crazy when you’re having fun. We had 18 plates which costed all up $120. Some more expensive then the others. Mind you, we didn’t drink either. Also still had room for more. Favourites were the fatty tuna, seared salmon with cheesy spice on top. All in all, had a great night. Was lucky enough to be sat at the table instead of at the bar which looked like it was packed like a can of sardines. Great company, great food and great night. WIR? Would definitely come for more in the future.

One of the better sushi trains in Melbourne. Came here on a Saturday night and lucky for us there wasn’t a line. We got seated straight away and to my surprise there were small tables next to the train and an iPad to order. It’s nice because if you’re really impatient and want your food to arrive at the table asap without waiting to see it on the train then you can’t easily order at a time of your convenience. There’s a variety of sushi rolls, nigiri’s, desserts and other small Japanese goods to choose from. The place is really small and packed, wish it was a lot bigger and less cramped. We started with a lot of salmon nigiris and they were all very fresh and delicious. I really like the salmon that’s been blowtorched, gave it a nice touch of smokiness. I also really liked the tuna which melted in my mouth. The scallops was one of my favourites, dissolved in my mouth. The oysters were fresh and the kingfish was perfect. The unagi was nice as well, it had the perfect amount of chew and not one bit tough. Talking about chewy, the grilled tuna was quite chewy, I wasn’t a huge fan. It was quite tough, I struggled to bite it in half also there was a fish with a weird crunch to it which I didn’t like. The wagyu nigiri wasn’t my cup of tea. Didn’t really have that tenderness of what wagyu should be, tasted like normal regular beef. I guess there were a few misses but overall it was still good. You kind of get carried away with ordering everything that you forget how expensive each dish is, but expected for a sushi train in Melbourne. Overall, definitely will return. :)
Hungry Little Dinosaur
Just as good as the original, except for the staff who refuse to pour water. Chefs are very lovely and generous, will definitely return as the portion sizes are good and prices are reasonable. The kingfish is a definite must have!!

3.5 rating <br/> <br/>Been passing this place  a few times now and finally we decided to stop and have a nice lunch. Unfortunately it didn't really meet up to our expectations. For the amount we ordered which isn't that much, the price is over the roof, although i do accept that their sushi is very fresh and high quality. I kind of regret saying that Tetsujin is expensive now, because Sakura's prices are off the chart, they say that the orange plate is $2.5 but when we went we only saw one dish that was on the orange plate and that was sweet potato. The way how they deliver your food by a bullet train to your table is very unique and reminds me of Japan, however the plates that were reoccurring the most was the white plate which was $5.8. Trust me for $5.8 you won't get much on your plate. We were very hungry so i would say we ate more than the average. <br/><br/>i highly recommend sushi Hotaru or Tetsujin which are both pretty decent priced. <br/>Tetsujin has the same quality but cheaper price!<br/><br/>for two $68

This sushi restaurant offers quite a good varieties include Geoduck, Akagai, Tsubugai, Ika, Etc.<br/>Great place to eat and catch up. All seafood are quite fresh on my last visit. The quality and variety is heaps better than any sushi shops around town.

Wanted to try this place since I keep seeing it walking up and down Lonsdale St for so long. Long story short, I’m super disappointed and won’t be back here. <br/><br/>Considering they’ve got competition from sushi hotaru and tetsujin, it’s a bit difficult to rate this place highly. The quality of the fish is subpar and tasteless with some chewy bits in the salmon that were quite unpleasant. Variety is limited and it’s not like you get bigger sushi considering the price. I could definitely get much better sushi for a cheaper price at hotaru or tetsujin. In addition, I ordered a matcha green tea and got lukewarm, pretty much cool tea instead and when I asked for a refill, same deal!! Did they not have hot water? Maybe I caught them on a bad day.<br/><br/>However, I gave it a 2 instead of a 1 because the staff were super friendly and helpful.
Mitch Kotz
Excellent sushi for the price!<br/>Best scallops I’ve had outside Japan... because they’re flown in from japan. I love that they have specials some days. First time I went there horseshoe crab sashimi served on the shell very cool! And I have been here at least once a week since. <br/><br/>Wish that they have my favorite surf clams and sweet shrimp sushi but those are hard to find in Melbourne <br/><br/>Very cute deco and sushi train. Great service. <br/><br/>Food: 4.5/5 <br/>Service: 4.5/5<br/>Ambience: 4/5<br/><br/>Highly recommended
Justine
Lots of options, fast delivery of my order off the menu item, tasty, fresh. Marked down for the drink of coke, I expected for $3.80 to get the whole can of Coke and instead just got a cup of coke with ice, maybe only 200ml. Not good value for money. I was still thirsty but not willing to order a second glass as I knew I was effectively paying $7.60 for a full can of coke and that’s a rip off.
Let’s Eat!
Love how fresh the sashimi is and how attentive the waiters are. It is very crowded during lunch and dinner, But i would still wait because of how fresh the food is.
TweeVy Ngo
Expensive sushi train experience for 2. The venue was small and had lots of Japanese anime figurines and decor. Loved their idea of using a double decker bus to deliver special orders to the table. Food tasted fresh. I would most definitely recommend their fresh squid sushi and octopus salad. Some other dishes were a hit and miss.
Jolly Nga Wan Yau
The salmon was so fresh!<br/><br/>We came in at 9:39 so the store was closing, but they still let us in and apologised for no hot foods. <br/><br/>We still enjoyed the sushi and they even gave us two steamed eggs so we could at least have some hot foods.<br/><br/>Best service!
Annie Yau
My favourite sushi train in Melbourne! A little pricey but food is always quality. The trick is to order from the iPad so your food is fresh 👌🏻
Sylvia Da Silva
Yeah another sushi train restaurant that I'm so happy to found this place. Everything is just so fresh and delicious . Each bite brought me a smile ! Foods made with quality ingredients & welcome services. <br/>Can't wait for the next visit .
JunZzz
we went there at the last working day of 2017. ate a lot, spent 120 for two PP. the Scallop  from Hokkaido is great! must try.!  much better than the Sushi place in CHINATOWN. but the price is also much more than normal Sushi. overall 4.  will come back
Maggie Hunter
Fresh and delicious sushi! The fish are fresh and their aburi nigiri are made to perfection. Service are quick and the wait staff are delightful. I love love love their grilled salmon and the mandarin jelly.
Brekkycakes
delicious sushi train! Absolutely loved the scallop nigiri. The soft shell crab was also very good with a great balance of flavours. Ordered everything off the ipad to get everything hot n fresh.<br/><br/>It can be a little cramped but worth it for the great food!
Oodreiilittlepotato
Its good but not great. Some of the dishes is good, some just average. Even tho the size is a little small, its quite filling at some point. :) yap
Cookielessvee
Sushi train with also a self order option for more fresh food. Portions are smaller than the original sakura kaiten. Dishes are dry, small and cold. Service are less attentive and presentation not as nice.
Affogato Addiction
Medium sized sushi train, located in a central busy location. Food was good. The iPad for ordering is a great idea, especially for hot dishes. But maybe because of the iPad the service isn't as great. And don't make the mistake of taking dishes off the train when they would be better served hot - you may have to wait but ordering off the iPad to get the custom order to worth it.<br/>Couldn't see anywhere displayed the key for prices of the coloured plates, would have been easy to list this on the iPad.<br/>Overall this does not feel like or have the quality of Sakura Kaiten Lil Collins, definitely go there instead if you can get a booking.
Eating Sushi
Food (4/10): My favourite sushi train in Melbourne would be the other branch at Little Collins st so I expected that the sushi would be the same quality and made the same way but I was so wrong!! The sushi here is absolutely terrible and is poorly made. Some of the food tastes off as if it’s been sitting out for 6 hours even when made to order. It’s unbelievable that the Collin St branch is so great and one of my favourite sushi trains but the Melbourne central branch is just terrible in so many ways. Some of our orders were changed without our knowledge too. This place is a shame to the other branch. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Do not go here. :(
Megha
Everything on the menu is so delicious. <br/>If you're a sushi lover then this is the place MUST VISIT. <br/>Its a small and cozy place. And it's always busy. <br/>It costs around 100$ for 2. But its worth every penny you spend.
ManFromMelbourne
Not bad, but not great.<br/><br/>The ipad ordering is nice, but the coloured plates used as tokens to cost your meal are not. For example, a bottle of sake came with 4-5 black plates. A bottle of beer comes with plates. The tapas sized dishes come with even more plates. We must've had a stack of plates the size of a small skyscraper.<br/><br/>These plates serve no purpose for the diner. Apparently it's too hard to tally the order through the ipad ordering system.<br/><br/>Food was good but the serving sizes are tiny. 2 small gyozas for 4.80. 4 cubes of beef for 6.80. Friendly staff but the whole system is designed so you don't interact with them.<br/><br/>An expensive version of Gyoza Gyoza, with the food being slightly more authentic.
Whatdoyafeellike
Love this place! <br/><br/>You can get dishes from the sushi train or order from the ipad which delivers on a cute little bus. Everything is fresh and tasty.<br/><br/>It can be pricey because all the good dishes are white or red plates <br/><br/>Prawn nigiri is our favourite 👍<br/><br/>
Nutsandbolts
Every single morsel at this place, has my mouth watering. The aburi hotate nigiri is heavenly. The options are seemingly endless. The little double decker bus that arrives with special orders amuses me. Most importantly, my kids love it here. We'll be regulars.
Gauri
The first restaurant I visited in Melbourne! Loved the concept: the conveyer belt and the Sushi train. Sushi was great. A little pricey. Staff was courteous. Had a great lunch!
Stelly
One of the best sushi trains in Melbourne. Staff are really friendly and service is fast, food is fresh and delicious and there’s so much variety. Plus, the cute red bus/train at the top that sends the food you order straight to your table reminded me so much of kaiten sushi in Japan.<br/><br/>Favourite dishes:<br/>- pumpkin croquette<br/>- crab croquette<br/>- soft shell crab hand roll<br/>- prawn mince balls<br/>- scallop nigiri<br/>- green tea cheesecake<br/><br/>Tip:<br/>- order all hot foods/fried foods from the iPad so it comes piping hot and crispy<br/>- also, the more dishes you order from the iPad, the more games you get to play to try and win a free dessert (unfortunately we didn’t win any)<br/><br/>Overall, we had a wonderful experience and left feeling super full! Definitely worth the money in my opinion!
FoodieLoveEatFood
High quality ingredients and good service. Got a lot of choices on the menu for sushi 🍣. Every 5 orders on the ipad you can play a little game for a free dessert. Recommended!
Hangry Horace
Sushi is pretty good here. Hot dishes come out piping hot if ordered through the ipad. My favourites are the creamy crab croquettes and seared scallop nigiris. Service is a little slow.
Perry
Came here around 1pm with my friend. Ended up having 9 plates in total hahahah. We both love salmon and tuna, so ordered pretty much all of them which contain salmon or tuna. Overall is average, I recon the one at the emporium food court. Cheaper and better than this one:)
Molly Linh
Came here for lunch with my friends today. We like sushi train and usually go to the Hotaru sushi on Bourke st but thought we could give Sakura Kaiten a try. overall, the experience was nice. Staffs were extremely kind and friendly. Spacious and comfortable seats. <br/>However, the menu wasn't big and the dishes weren't very varied. After a few plates, me and my friends didn't know what else to get since we already tried everything we wanna try. Sushi was overpriced consider the portion and value of the dish. Wouldn't spent this much money ($130/2 people) for the same amount of food if we ate somewhere else. Not sure if I wanna come back again since the food was not worthy of the money we spent.
Laurence Song
As good as Sakura Kaiten I, really getting busy during dinner time. You can find some sushi you couldn’t find it in I. More hot food. Always fresh
Chewynoms
YASSSSSS SO MUCH LOVE FOR SAKURA KAITEN 😍😍<br/>Sashimi is fresh and food is good. 😋😋 However I still prefer the Collins St branch.<br/>There's no one hour seating rule here so eat as long as you want. haha.
Jef5525
I used to love Sakura Kaiten, especially when they have Tuna promotion 3.8/ dish at that time.<br/>On yesterday afternoon visit, I experienced a very bad food. The Grill Salmon BELLY has bone within it! I have never tried a sushi has a bone inside except the grill eel. Can't imagine a belly part of fish has a bone! The chef defend themselves by telling me they have tried to remove every bone, but how come there is a bone within a belly?!<br/><br/>I usually eat the whole sushi , so the bone "stapped" into my gum and bleed.<br/><br/>I ordered 2 grill salmon belly dish (total 4 sushi), and returned 1 dish (2 sushi) that was not eaten by me and my girlfriend. <br/><br/>Will never visit this store again. Suspect if belly have that small bone or that part is not salmon belly.
Darryl Quah
Came here for lunch with Grace. She's very fond of the salmon mentai that they serve. A sushi train concept, with a plethora of options. Barely any service since we get what we order through the sushi train and theres a conveyor belt for us to pick out what we want. <br/><br/>I tried a few things and they did not disappoint. The grilled salmon belly nigiri was on promotion and it was great! The salmon belly melted on my tongue but the rice was a little too dry. Aside from that, i also enjoyed the prawn cheese nigiri sushi. The prawns were meaty and went well with the taste of the cheese. <br/><br/>Price wise it is a little on the high side but I would say it's worth a trip down every once in a while.
Naomi
Worst experience. I used to like Sakura and came here many times. This time when I ate Steamed egg. I found Fragments of the bowl inside the dish. The manager only gave us 10 percent discount. But this is unforgivable mistake. I cannot image how about if children ate this dish. I won't go there anymore.
Stephanie Shen
Seems I got no choice for my dinner yesterday becauz some Japanese restaurants inside or around Emporium were soon close. While it did surprise me with its fresh material and source of meat(I even saw a huge fish head in the kitchen and they told me that's real Lol). Also I love the iPad ordering service that u can get some special dishes for u when they're not on the sushi train.

General feel and deco<br/>- Makes you feel like you're in Japan<br/>- As well as a sushi train, you can order on an iPad. Once your ordered 5 dishes, you get to play a game. It's a cute idea that occurs in many sushi trains in Japan<br/>- Loved how different the wall deco was (dragon ball z pins)<br/><br/>Service<br/>- Friendly waiters<br/>- Orders were made quickly<br/>- There's a cute little bus that delivers the sushi you order from the iPad, which is such a cute and unique idea<br/><br/>Food<br/>- Food tasted lovely (definitely recommend the squid nigiri<br/>- They don't skimp out on wasabi, so it's a lovely refreshing surprise when you bite into the nigiri<br/><br/>Overall I loved eating at this place. It's underrated and quite hidden, but a great place to eat at if you want to try something different. The only con I found was the pricing (the average plate was about $6-$7, with edamame and salads cheaper).

Expensive food that lacks in value. Somehow it doesn't taste as good as their other branch. Sushi was a big BIG disappointment. Don't recommend even giving this place a try with all the different Japanese choices they have in the city.

Sushi trains epitomise quick satisfaction for me and when you want food quickly, there's nothing better. Sakura Kaiten was recommended to me and so my husband and I popped in peak time on Friday night. Lucky for us there were spare seats so we squeezed in. . Where sushi trains score high on food speed satisfaction, they struggle with comfort and personal space and Sakura is no different but if it's that authentic Japanese feel you want then it wins on that score. There are the zippy little food transporters that get pushed from the kitchen to the customer. There are Japanese anime figurines all over and it just feels street style authentic. The toilet roll holding Yoda in the bathroom was a little bit of a shock when I entered but it caused a giggle.
Must Be Hungry
For some reason sushi trains for dinner is so relaxing, no fuss, choose what you what to eat, no wait and delicious food. This place fit in at the right time for a busy SAT afternoon. The Dragon Ball Tazos and figurines was like a slap of nostalgia for us. Great place, relaxed and kicked back, awesome selection and attractive presentation. Only minor point for us would just be the prices, a minor concern but an overall great experience.

Average sushi place at an average price. Nothing special but nothing bad about the place either. Very friendly staff but seats are limited. At least you can avoid the long queue at hotaru.

I can sit at a sushi train for hours watching the plates go around. The selection here is excellent and ranges from your standard sushi train plates to very high end dishes like wagyu steak and scallops. The standout dishes for me were the Octopus Ball, lightly seared sashimi salmon, the seaweed salad and teriyaki chicken roll. Points deducted for the not so crispy tempura which should have been removed from the conveyor belt, lack of signage showing the cost of each item relating to the plate colour and how difficult it was to ask for table water. I will come back because there was no line up and overall the quality of the food is right up there.

Came here last night with a friend, Sakura 2 is definitely larger in size compared to the original restaurant. <br/>I was a little skeptical at first, but after having the fluke fin nigiri and toro, I was sold. The rice was on point! Not over cooked and when served, it was room temperature, not hot! Definitely will come back, especially you want good quality fish!

It used to be good when it just started out and for some reason, it became pretty mediocre. <br/>Though I would say it would be something I would go for compared to the other sushi shops out there. (Just cause I like to sit down and eat without having to feel like I need to get out asap).<br/>However, I do like it when you order their fried food and it's fresh (it delivers via their bullet train) so that it's not all soggy (like those in the conveyor belt).

This Sushi train is closer to the QV. Just parked the car near by and never queue up for tables. Quality of fish is good as the first Sakura restaurant. Wonderful Tuna Sashimi was cut in real thick and very fresh, not defrosted fish. The photo is just half of the actual portion. I ate 2 pierces already:) Hamachi was so delicious and good quality too. Salmon nigiri and Salmon egg rolls wrapped on salmon were ok but not fresh enough to impress me. Sushi rice should add a bit more on Salmon egg rolls to be oval not a ball size. The soup noodles are delicious and reasonable price but the rolls are too small for the price.

Definitely one of the best authentic Japanese places to dine at. If you're in for a fresh serve of sushi in a cool and friendly setting, this is the place for you. An abundance of tasty selections that will Kamehameha its competitors outta here.

The quality of their sushi is very good, <br/>However, Some of the dish are a bit costly with the poportion compare to what i got :( <br/>Such as the crumb prawn sushi cost me 5$ ! <br/>I could get this for only 3.8 at Tetsujin.<br/>Love to promotion for 3.8 dishes :))) <br/>Grilled Salmon belly sushi was really awesome ! <br/>Really recommend ♡ <br/>Otoro is also another recommend one. <br/>Overall, good impression. Will surely go back again

This place is the sister of Sakura Kaiten sushi in Collins st. This place was recommended to me by aadancefit. He had been there some time ago and loved the fast moving car. They have this sort of thing in Japan. By 2:30pm the place was busy with all the people loving a late lunch such as myself. Here their tamago nigiri was overpriced. It was $4.80, other places charge $2.80 per plate. Here the egg was good and sweet but the rice fell apart.

Things are a bit expensy dining at Sakura Kaiten II, but the restaurant is a bit of a novelty so it’s worth checking out at least the one time. From the front there’s walls lined with Dragonball Z and anime merchandise and the playfulness continues into the dining experience with food delivered on motorised trains. Such fun. Also, there’s a ridiculous roulette game you play after ordering five dishes, with the prize seemingly being more food. We didn’t win as I chose the chicken instead of cat. Life regrets.

Cute little sushi train spot with really lovely service from staff.  Sushi is good, but not amazing. There are other alternatives which I would prefer. There's a lot of Japanese  Dragon Ball Z items around the store which will keep fans occupied. :)

I love the food here! Everything is so tasty and I love every single one! The only problem is that the place is too small so that feels crowd. However, the food worth everything!

This Sakura Kitten is a funky and fun place. The wall at the entrance is full of animation series figurines, stickers and cards of our bygone children years and welcomes you with a broad smile. The dining area at the front is really lovely, downtown Tokyo, and very funky. The staff are really friendly and welcoming.  Sakura Kitten serves a  mix of sushi rolls, sashimi, nigiri, soups and desserts, and you can pick up dishes from the train or order them through their tablet menu and they'll make them for you from scratch. Sakura's forte is sashimi and nigiri and those cooked dishes that you don't find elsewhere. They make an effort to present their dishes nicely and, unlike other places, they don't over-cover them in mayo. Everything I tried was full of flavour.<br/><br/>I had a hit-and-miss experience there. I thought the train, overall, was mediocre, but anything that I ordered from the tablet was good.  The main problem with the train is that there is not enough variation, the nicest dishes disappear in front of your eyes but they aren't immediately replaced, so you get the same old dishes moving around, or they are replaced with more of the same. <br/><br/>If you want something that is supposed to be hot or something that is not on the train, make yourself a favour and order it from the tablet menu, even  if you have to wait for a little while. Most of the things supposedly hot or warm on the train, at least those I tried, were very much cold and some of them as if they had been running in circles for quite a while, which is a bit of a put off. <br/><br/>If the place is not full, ask to be seated in the front area, which is great. The area I was taken to be seated was dark, beside a narrow passage leading to the kitchen, toilets and tools rooms while there was plenty of room at the front. <br/><br/>I thought the pricing was a bit high, if you compare with similar places in nearby places, but this is in the heart of the CBD, facing Emporium and besides Melbourne Central, so you pay not just for the food but also for the location.<br/><br/>Yoda will receive you in the toilet surrounded by cute flowers and rolls, toilet rolls. May the force go with your bottoms.

It's very hard to find good sushi in Melbourne, and by local standards Sakura Kaiten is surely one of the top. On my today's visit the quality was outstanding, everything was fresh. Pros when compared to Hotaru – Sakura has ikura, uni and toro in the menu, there are no lines, it's quiet and cosy. Cons – it's slightly more expensive, there are no sets. Both don't have fresh wasabi or house marinated ginger.  Anyway, this is the best sushi you can get in Melbourne for under than 50$ per person

Randomness sometimes comes in quite handy.<br/><br/>My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this restaurant thinking that it was a model shop (because of the anime models and stickers on the wall). Anyhow turned out the food was great, kinda easy to lose track of what you have eaten. Fantastic service as well. Definitely gonna come back for a second.

When I’m undecided what I want to eat, I end up going for sushi train because of the variety. Sakura Kaiten Sushi has now become my favourite sushi train restaurant since the decline in quality at Sushi Hotaru. (I’ve actually only been to these 2!) What originally attracted me here were all the Dragonball knick knacks decorated on the wall.

The quality of sushi is pretty good. Loved the variety and their cute signs that they created by hand. It's much better than sushi hotaru. However, the prices are a bit extravagant. <br/>

Absolutely love this place. The walls are lined with dragon ball z collectibles and the whole atmosphere is really fun. You can take food off the conveyer belt or order food which arrives on a toy fire engine. The food is nice, standard food that you'd expect at this kind of place. I had vege croquettes, spring roles, prawn money bags and sushi. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Super conveniently located near Melbourne Central Station so a great place to stop by if your're in a rush and craving sushi. The restaurant is nice and new with pretty cool and modern vibes. The service was lovely as well however the food was not amazing and to be honest it was quite expensive for the quality. I would recommend going to Sushi Hotaru (a 10-15 minute walk away) if you have the time.

no, no, no...absolutely horrible. I know this is the sister store of Little Collins and you'd expect something good, let me tell you, it wasn't that good and the variety was lacking. I'll wait for Little Collins to re-open.
Alvina Chung
One word, expensive $$$$$. The dishes weren't of low quality but they weren't exactly top of the range either. Sushi hotaro is definitely better value for money.
Melbourne Foodie
Attend there other venue in Little Collins regularly but as they are closed Sunday thought we would give it a go here.  Pretty much the same, quality of fish is good, probably a little more spacious but I wish they would have some low seats and not all stools! Its uncomfortable but I suppose they want you out as quickly as possible.  Good value and plenty on offer so we will return again.

My partner and I have been in search for a really great sushi train restaurant, and I think we have finally found our go to place. So many varieties of sushi, fresh sashimi, with some creative twists from the chefs. I have been there twice already, and will definitely be returning again.<br/><br/>My one small comment would be that they should try to not put cream cheese on so many of their sushi.

I enjoyed the food! It is a clean and nice restaurant! I don't understand the bad reviews. Everything we tried was fresh and well presented it is a little pricy! But we enjoyed it!
