Wow! Amazing sushi restaurant. I liked the sushi train which added authenticity. Slightly expensive but considering the quality, it's very fair. A huge selection to choose from (and you can easily order specifically what you want using ipod infront of you!) :) Absolutely loved Grilled Scallop Nigiri and Grilled Yellowtail Nigiri with Miso sauce. They just melted in my mouth. Highly recommend!

Def one of the best sushi train in Melbourne
And tbh it's pretty similar to the first outlet on little collins.
The quality of the nigiris were definitely one of the best in town.
I just looove their seared scallop nigiri as it just melts in your mouth!
They have a pretty good variety of sushis to choose from too.
One thing i really like is the fact that they make fresh sushi when you order on the tablet and not just pick it up from the train like many places do.

Unfortunately you have to pay for ginger and water which isn't very nice.

Consistently the best tasting, freshest sushi train in Melbourne with the best range of options too. Whether your appetite is after some salmon, tuna, eel, scallop, crab and anything in between, the sheer variety per fish is sensational as it is tasty.

This is easily my favourite sushi train in Melbourne and every time I try it, I am reminded constantly of how good it really is. Perfect sauces and combinations of flavours make for an amazing experience for your taste buds. My favourites are the salmon with cream cheese and the scallops.

Whilst you can find similar assortments in similar establishments, it is rare to have ALL dishes taste remarkable, not compensating for lack of taste in anything. The best sushi in town for sure, cannot recommend this enough!

A bit pricier than other sushi trains but the quality of the sushi served was worth it. Loved the interior and large collection of dragon ball z figurines. Would return.

A sushi train worth visiting! I love all things aburi and Sakura Kaiten has a great selection! I especially enjoy their aburi salmon belly and its always fun watching the sushi circle around on the sushi train. A pretty casual spot with fresh selection and if you order 5 times on the iPad you can play the roulette game and possibly win yourself some free dessert! My favourite thing here is actually the mochi ice cream. It is sooo good and I always get a plate, maybe even two after all the good savoury stuff. It’s slightly pricier in comparison to other sushi trains but it still tastes great.

• Sushi Train
• 15 dishes including desert
• The ingredients were fresh. I love all the grilled/ seared dishes, especially grilled eel with cream cheese.
• The green tea mochi was delicious (a large scoop of matcha ice cream is nicely wrapped in a thin rice dough).

A good friend told be about this place. finally we gave it ago today. It was tasty, fast and fun. They have the small machine on your table that allows you to order their special etc. Your order will be delivered by a small ‘bus’ that would stop infront of your table. It was fun :) You probably will have to wait for a bit during lunch time, but it wouldn’t be too long. It’s pretty hard to find a good sushi train place .. but this one should definitely one of the good one to go. Good value of money you wouldn’t be disappointed

Sakura Kaiten Sushi....where have you been all my life? This tiny little sushi train shop along Lonsdale Street is quite authentic.

Staff were friendly and accommodating. The sushi train was constantly being replenished with fresh items. I'm not sure why some dishes were not covered - it seemed slightly unhygienic to me.

I loved the iPad ordering system and the cute red double decker bus that delivered our order. This was reminiscent of a sushi shop we visited in Tokyo. Everything we had was lovely and fresh.

My only 2 gripes are that the restaurant felt a little squishy and the food was quite expensive given the serving sizes.

Having said all that though, it was a lovely enough experience!

Lobster sushi wrapped in salmon from the sushi train. The lobster meat was in small bits, cold and a bit sweet in the sauce, perfect when combined with the fresh salmon pieces.

My favourite - "no 1 roll" Seared salmon with tuna..mmm :))
Slightly grilled salmon sashimi mexican spicy style!

Sakura is probably one of the better sushi trains we've been to. The sushi is so yum and fresh. Missed the five star mark because the service felt super rushed. We didn't get a chance to interact with staffs or ask any questions. Unlike other sushi places, there was no ginger to take. We had to ask the staffs and they returned with two packages. We ate about $100+ worth of sushi, so it did feel a bit stingy of them to only give us two. The experience would've definitely been better with friendlier service. I recommend this place for great food though.

The variety in offerings makes Sakura an excellent choice for those looking to try many types of sushi. Prices are reasonable and the quality is solid, though perhaps not jaw dropping. The conveyor belt setup is charming and efficient, making for an authentic but approachable Japanese sushi experience.

I'm really torn about this place. On the one hand it has a good atmosphere and really good sushi but on the other hand the plate prices were not clearly displayed which led to me being a bit horrified at my bill. I went here as a treat to myself after completing a 48hr fast as sushi is a healthy light food. I had searched online for the best sushi train joints in Melbourne and this place was mentioned consistently. I was pleased with what I saw when I walked in. It had a warm, clean Japanese vibe to it. The staff all also spoke to each other in Japanese which I think is a good sign. Whilst it is a sushi train restaurant there is also an extensive menu available through QR code ordering and is how I ordered a beer. I then hoed into the sushi which was all very fresh and being prepared by the sushi chef in front of diners. There was a really good selection and it was difficult to fault. I reckon I had about 15 plates or so. After 48 hours of not eating I pretty much inhaled the first few! When it came time to pay, the bill amounted to over $100 which as I said horrified me a bit, although decent sushi train is never cheap. Each to his own of course but to my mind, for that sort of money i would have preferred to eat somewhere a little less casual. If you don't mind casual dining for good quality sushi at fairly hefty prices then I would recommend this place.

This review is for their new location on Little Lonsdale St! Such a great location and beautiful interior, and OMG they have fresh Saba (which is so hard to come by). Love this place! And now with fresh ginger ❤️
