How could I not go and dine at a place called the Noodle Kingdom? I love noodles more than rice so had to come here for lunch one day. Tried the bao skins and they were delicious with a blend of lovely Asian flavours. So enjoyed the dumplings. I did watch the woman in the window making and mixing up a variety of dishes but felt self-conscious watching her. Overall though, this place is one of many in a street that is abundant in Asian restaurants. We are fortunate to have an abundance of great food and the competition is tough. I'd regard this place as a good quick meal but not a culinary treat. You can dine in or take away. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible.

Love the noodle and rice dishes . Perfect quantity, reasonably priced and very yummy food. Clean and we'll maintained too.

The restaurant has been redecorated and is really a decent place to eat. Food is pretty good especially the signature noodle. This is the place I would recommend.

Fresh noodles is the highlight at this place. Didn't have to wait for a spot for lunch when I was there. Looks like it has been recently renovated.
The lamb noodles is quite nice but contains quite a lot of MSG.
Service is prompt.

We dropped in here on a cold wet day partly to feed but partly to warm up. We were promptly seated and provided with menus. It's your standard 900 item Chinese menu most items with photos. Each of us ordered. Mine came out easily ten minutes before the others. My main came out before my entree dish. My friend got their dessert before their main. The other friend who made it very clear he was allergic to mushrooms was handed a main with mushrooms. The waiter was apologetic but the manager made Kelvin think it was his fault until we all said he'd said it then she stormed off into the kitchen. He had to wait another 10 minutes to get his main by that time the rest of us had nearly finished. It looks upmarket but really it's just an eating house so if you go in there expecting that you'd be ok. My noodles were a little bland until I added the chili then they were ok. The steamed pork buns were the traditional Chinese kind not the western Chinese kind.

Best wonton noodle soup!!! We heard about this place about a year ago, today was a perfect soup day in chilly Melbourne. The flavours of that soup with a bit of chili was divine!

Went to Noodle Kingdom on a Friday Night.
It was just past 9 p.m. and the place was completely empty - my friend and I were the only customers.
That diss, it was nice and clean. The sign above was quite quirky - I haven’t seen it in other restaurants. The quotes they were posting, however, were rather boring.
The waiter brought us water straight away and we were left alone to decide what to order.
I went for the Hot & Sour Soup and the Beef Brisket Noodles. My friend, who wasn’t very hungry, just got some Dumplings in Chilli Oil.
The food arrived within 15 minutes. As usual for Chinese restaurants, my soup and main were served at once (very frustrating).
The Hot & Sour Soup was delicious. It was packing a lot of flavour and it had plenty of tofu and mushrooms and, most interestingly - shrimps. I’ve never had shrimps in my H&S Soup, but they were actually a really delicious addition.
My noodles were a different story... By the time I got to them, they were cold. They were all stuck together in one big lump and it was impossible to separate them. Trying to eat them, they were mushy and flavourless. A very unenjoyable experience. The beef was cooked beautifully and was flavoursome. There wasn’t enough sauce. Overall, a disappointing dish.
Initially, my friend was a bit surprised that his dumplings were sweet. He called the waitress and, after a short discussion, she brought him more of the chilli oil from the kitchen and he said he enjoyed his dish. He commented that it’s a great value for money.
The menu was interesting and everything was very well-priced. The location couldn’t be more convenient too. Because of this, I will give Noodle Kingdom another chance (plus, I’d love to have that H&S Soup again!). We paid under $25 for everything.

Good vibe. They are generous with the food portion and it taste really delicious too.
Lizzie Eats Melbourne
😱Lizzie’s first impression: really don’t rate this place - came here for dumplings and noodles and I was quickly disappointed

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: the pan fried dumplings were fair - skin not too thick and generous amount of filling.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: the staff here really do rush you when it’s peak hour which is not what I like to be treated if I’m just trying to have my lunch. The dumplings with minced meat is really weird - almost like having a dumpling with a pies filling. The noodles were really oily and bland!

🥇Lizzie rates overall: didn’t enjoy the food here - may give it another shot hopefully next time it will be better!

Large portion sizes and pretty tasty. The bad rating is a bit harsh and undeserving, based on my personal experience. It’s a nice place for a casual meal.

We arrived at Noodle Kingdom late at night, peckish, and honestly not expecting much from them based on reviews. We were really pleasantly surprised though! The xiao long bao skins were perfectly thin, and its soup, robust and flavoursome. Nearly as good as Din Tai Fung, yet cheaper! I think it was about $1.50 for one dumpling? The hot and sour soup with dumplings were weird with the soup being mostly oil, and not a lot of flavour. All the other dumplings were good though!

Calling this place Noodle kingdom is a misnomer. The noodles are handmade sure, but it’s just not that good. It is a cheap place to grab a quick meal and although focused on Sichuan style food it does have some Cantonese and Shanghainese options. Essentially not a bad place for a group of hungry students.
Thunder8621
A little surprised at the below average rating. Noodle soup dish was hearty, oversized and satisfying, if a little oily. Boiled dumplings also tasty, but skins a little thick. Service was quick. This was a favourite place of mine many years ago, before they changed their name, then changed it back. Sometimes I’m still confused if it is still the same old Noodle Kingdom. I hope it is, because all the handmade noodles of the past were exceptional. Now that they are “back” I think customers still believe they operate under the old name. With time, hopefully Noodle Kingdom regains its once treasured reputation

Bad food that is overpriced and card limit is $20. The hip hop music is annoying and the service was slow. not especially welcoming to a Caucasian customer. Don’t go there.
Food Zen
1) The restaurant has a credit card payment machine and I am very disappointing that the staff lie about "faulty" credit card terminal and "cash only". I asked the waiter twice whether it was really faulty and I could tell that he was bluffing under the instruction of the lady boss. They do this likely for tax avoidance/evasion purposes.
2) Noodles were too oily as well.
3) Don't go to this restaurant due to their dishonesty!
Some Bunee Loves Food
Been to the restaurant a couple of times ordering dumplings, rice and soup noodles.

Braised beef on rice was good. So i thought I'd try noodles with braised beef, minced beef and vegetables. So bland and the only flavorful thing was the beef. Didn't even want to finish it and partner ate it. Got it from uber eats.

First time here and the service and food quiet good and fast. The noodle were thick and juicy nice spice level. Definitely be back highly recommend.

Great Fried Pork Dumplings and Steamed Chicken & Prawn Dumplings along with the Chilli Chicken Noodle Soup. Very polite and friendly staff and absolute value for money!!

Waited, waited and waited! No food arrived. After 20 mins the waiter came over to double check my order. I didn’t have time to wait any longer. I won’t be back

The broth was nice, and simple. The restaurant was also not too busy and the service was decent. The noodles were not anything too spectator. However, is a nice and cheap place for a nice more relaxed type of dinner.

Food was just ok, very average, borderline bad, and the service was worst we have come across, it was really slow and staff very rude, not friendly, really bad experience!!!
Daz Wilks
After enjoying our meal we thought to order takeaway for our daughter at home. The takeaway menu was confusing and asking the rudest waitress we have ever come across to explain, she angrily said, “JUST SAY IT”!! Never coming here again.

My girlfriend and I had a really terrible experience. We only ordered four food items yet the server forgot one of our main dishes. After promising that the missed food item would come out within 5 minutes, it took 15 minutes. The food itself was very subpar, lacking any punch in flavour you'd expect from Szechuan food. We very much regret not checking the zomato score before going into the restaurant. Definitely steer clear of this place.

Noodle Kingdom had a renovation from a wooden, glitz to a black industrial ambiance. Subjectively I would have preferred it's previous design however the new look probably caters for their younger demographics. The place can get confusing since they also go by the name of Mr Kwok (this website is live) with Mr Kwok cutlery and Noodle Kingdom menus. Their take away portions seems trimmed from prior to renovations however a lot faster than before (clocking within 2 minutes for a beef dish take away during weekday lunch hour). Food (to me) is very average; a lot seemed precut which although lacks freshness, provides speed. In the past there were hand-made dumplings viewed to the public at the windows which are now gone (or taken away from view). Staff were friendly and attentive.

the staff is nice and service is also good. Good ambience with nice interiors and a bar. We order dumplings and noodle soup and rice. The beef dumplings were ammazing , but the pork one was not that flavourfull, chicken noodles were good but the noodle soup needed more flavour and the noodles were thick, which I didnt like.
NoCapsicumPlease
It’s way too much noodle in the giant bowl but the flavour doesn’t seem so great. However, the noodle seems to be freshly made. They should improve the broth

This place used to be fairly decent. I went in March 2018 and the staff were slow opening hours were reduced they close service to take away only 1hr before closing 2pm which I think is ridiculous. There were 3 orders but food tool quote some time a d the waiter tried to lie to me telling me the food came from upstairs and (kitchen is bottom floor) I've been coming here for 8 years... Upstairs is more seats and the bathroom and further up is a different restaurant what a joke. Not coming back.
Kingshark
We decided to go to the closet restaurant and came here. Wasn’t too impressed. The dumplings were dry and the soup was flavourless. The noodles were also quite bland. The atmosphere was strange, the servers were quiet and customers were very packed in. Overall I do not think I’ll come back here.

Quick and generous portion take away joint. Have only tried their noodles though. So I can only rate them according to the noodles o have. Average broth with well cook noodles. Still springy with texture. The brisket still have the fat bits which I like. However the beef in Lanzhou noodle is slightly dry.

The noodles were substantial, but the soup tasted like MSG. My mouth was dry after eating the noodles. There are many other better noodle places around.

Staff is very warm.. Food is good, not out of the world but good.. as the name says noodle kitchen I recommend one must try noodles here!! Overall 4/5 experience
Vegetarian Food Lover
Noodle kingdom is the new name for Mr Kwok so it took us a while to find it. Food portions for the noodle soups were huge, I don’t think many people can finish it and considering the price it was very good value for money. We ordered vegetarian dumplings, pan-fried dumplings vegetarian buns, vegetarian noodle soup, vegetarian goose (don’t really recommend as it tasted like fried flour). All the dumplings were good but it had the same filing which was disappointing. It would have been nice if the filling were different. Service was very attentive & friendly.
Dalena.155
Very plain and simple. Nothing amazing. Sadly found a bug in my soup, which was a big turn off. Wouldn’t recommend. The only thing I like about it was that the noodles were hand made.
Ilovefoodsomuch
Newly renovated noodle kingdom likes very out of place. Serving Chinese noodles with such a futuristic theme... noodles are still handmade and you can see with the different thickness of each strand. Overall the noodles are very average.

Been aware of the joint for ages but first time the opportunity to go arose tonight. Had the chicken and nut dish with spinach and tofu plus the soup dumplings. Everything was delicious. I understand people complaining about wait times but if they're pulling the noodles fresh to order? C'mon mate. Would go again happily. Very reasonably priced, too.
Foodie In Paradise
We had our midnight supper here on a weekend. The restaurant was reasonably quiet as we walked in. The food taste average but wasn't expecting too much on that time of the night. The xiao long bao skin is too thick. Staffs wise, some were very attentive but some or one of them was just busy playing with the phone and totally ignoring us.
Mira Surjadi
Not recommended for lunch break. Was waiting for the food far too long 20+ mins and could not enjoy eating it as I had to go back to work. What makes it even worse people who ordered after me got their food first. Perhaps need to improve the efficiency in the kitchen.
Zhaooy
Average. Mixed vibes, more of an western take on Asian dining. Noodle soup is okay but not the best. Ambience is quite fusion bar like. But try it yourself I guess.
A Girl With Curves
Mr Kwok is just adequate. It's nothing that wows you but it's not bad. The room was freezing cold and the ambience was blah but ultimately, you get what you pay for. The soup was flavourless and the "salt and pepper" chicken ribs had no seasoning. I wouldn't return.
Dimzib
There is an evidently inconsistent and strange dynamic with the staff here, as some are overly attentive and some appear to be lost or inexperienced with their work. The setting and decor of the restaurant is fantastic - clean and modern. The food is average and not outstanding for its price.
Snackloverbaby
Dropped in for dinner on a week night and was pleasantly surprised.
We ordered the spring onion pancake (it was deliciously crispy), French beans with chilli and garlic and the braised stick pork hock.
The pork hock was huge, definitely good value for money - it was lucky we were famished otherwise we definitely would have over ordered!
Service was good and they were quick to get us drinks and clear empty plates.
I was surprised it wasn't busier, seeing it was Tuesday night in the CBD but then they're open until 3.30am so maybe peak time is later or earlier..?! We also really appreciated their love song dedications style playlist - Richard Mercer would have been proud!
Would definitely recommend if you're in the area and interested in somewhere a little more sophisticated than the usual dumpling houses nearby.

Decided to try something different this evening so we popped in here. Never really noticed the place because the door is set back from the street.

It's slightly different from the usual Chinese dumpling/noodle shop as it has a bit of a bar going on and a more upmarket feel to it (including prices).

Food was not bad actually. Had the vegetarian stir fried noodles and hubby had the hot & sour noodle soup. However, they took a long time to arrive even though the place wasn't particularly busy.

Might come back but not if we want something quick.
MSY123
The food was all fair and well, but imagine having a mysterious drip of liquid land in your food...
As it happened again, we asked the guy behind the bar if he'd seen it?
In which he replied 'yes' and then started to laugh, thinking we also recognised some kind of humour at play.
We awkwardly joined in.
I followed up by asking if there was a leaking toilet upstairs, he answered by saying it was just the air conditioning.

...Air Conditioning water. Delicious.
The perfect place to go with a group of friends for my birthday. Didn't book a table, just walked in and asked and they put a big table together for us. Great service and everyone was happy with their food. They even gave us individual checks! highly recommend

Was very disappointed what Noodle Kingdom has become. As other reviewers have suggested you can get bigger portions of the same dishes for cheaper within 100m of this restaurant.
MortalWombat
Surprised to find really good quality dumplings here. The dough thickness was just right and good filling. (I had the chicken and prawn I think). We also ordered some noodles which were so-so. Food was a little slow to arrive though, it could've been because it was white night and they got our orders mixed up because other tables that came later were served first, and I could see the staff's confused looks when checking the tickets.
Rhiannon Burns
The food was good but really slow to arrive (perhaps because it was a Sunday evening?)
You can get food just as good with bigger portions very quickly around the corner.

I've been dining at Noodle Kingdom for many years now. I work in the city so NK on Swanston was my go to after work. When they went under renovation and opened as Mr Kwok i didn't know what to expect, but after visiting yesterday with my colleagues we were extremely pleased.

The entire vibe of the restaurant has changed, it is very classy and chill, they even have their own bar now, bartender and staff are professional and polite. The food is all about quality, my favourite dishes in the past are still there except they have been tweaked, e.g. ingredients have been reconsidered and the presentation is WOW very aesthetic. There are new dishes on the menu, we tried a few and they are superb, i'll share photos below! In terms of pricing I'm not gonna lie, its not a bargain but it is still cheap, taking into consideration the upgrade in ingredient, quality and service there is nothing to complain about. Whilst it is nice to see so many new faces, i do miss a few old staffs who have apparently been relocated to NK in preston and BH, you know who you are, will visit soon.
Hellolee
Aussie chef run Chinese restaurant? 😩No, no no!
The portion very small
Very disappointed experience, after renovate, the environment better and use better bowl but charge more, $8.8 for 6 pieces of pork dumplings, not even list in the menu! And beef noodles took so long to arrive, charged us $14.95 for small bowl, Japanese Ramen even bigger and cheaper
Never go back again! Not worth,
Melbourne To Mouth
The Next Week Group's venture sits in the ground level former Noodle Kingdom spot, probably better known for being directly under popular beer sipping rooftop venue Goldilocks on the city's Swanston Street. Clean, polished and modern fit out meets a dark wall texture in a spot that's probably as cosy as you're going to get in a dumpling and noodle venue. The open kitchen at front showcases the house-made, hand-pulled noodles and friendly and affable staff are quick to jump to your needs.

The portions are vast and the prices are low by comparison. If you're one of those people who can eat Shanghai dumplings without needing a warning label not to burn your lips and/or chin off, I'd definitely recommend these to start. The pickled shredded potato and salt and pepper chicken ribs didn't last long at our table, but the highlight was the hot and sour soup with aforementioned hand-pulled noodles - delicious. If you're game enough, give the pig's ear in chili oil a crack.

Full (and probably funnier...) review on the blog now, link in bio :)

Not sure how to fairly rate this. Friendly service but meals really slow to arrive. Great flavor in meals but undercooked chicken made one dish totally inedible. Maybe chalk it up to lack of experience - hopefully things will improve.
