Our favourite local gem! Not only is their food consistently delicious and friendly priced, they open til late which is incredibly helpful for someone like myself who works late shifts at times. We never walk away disappointed and we will sure be returning even if we move away from the suburb!!
The curries are delicious and cheap. Ordered the chicken tika and aloo gobi. Customer service is very average.
I like haryali kofta masala full of indian spices
This place has a high rating and they deserve it! The best curries which are so well priced. The curries are all served hot and spicy! The roti bread it perfectly flaky!
Awesome prices and tasty food...most reliable of all Clayton restaurants after Bikanerwala disappeared. Dal makhni: fantastic, but a tad too salty. Paneer makhni: gosh, why make it sooo sweet? Nan at $2 is a steal. The free pickles, onion and yoghurt get a thumbs up.
This place is the best Indian meal I’ve ever had ! The service is not the best but it doesn’t matter , my favourite butter chicken and lamb korma in Melbourne ! Prices are cheap and servings are generous, there is always a line here too which speaks volumes as this restaurant has been around for years !
Frequent visits to Anshuman Dhaba- both outlets in Clayton have taken care of customers taste buds. Value for money, tasty food, quick service would summarise it all.
So it’s a little confusing as there are two Anshumann Da Dhaba - but the one that’s across the station is the one I am reviewing aka the bigger one.
So I went with three of my friends to have some Indian. It was quite busy, almost 3/4 of the restaurant was full at 2 PM. Service was a bit slow at the beginning but was better throughout our meal.
Generally food is quite cheap but the servings for some dishes were quite small.
I liked all the dishes besides the lamb biryani but my friend enjoyed it a lot. I particularly enjoyed the amaritsari paneer and the aloo parantha. The aloo parantha was especially delicious when you spread butter on top and dip it with the yoghurt.
An Authentic and Typical Punjabi Restaurant where especially they are famous for their Indian Breads like Naan, Roti and Paratha's. Meat Curries here are of really a very good taste and will surely satisfies the appetite good enough. Reasonable choice of food options and a Friendly staff at the restaurant surely deserves a visit. Must Try Lachha Paratha, Butter Naan and any Curries especially Non - Veg.
Lachha paratha, kulcha and Karara paneer is a combination to definitely have. The Karara Paneer I ordered with spicy and they made really good. This outlet of anshuman dhaba, comparatively has more space than its other outlet across the road.
You must try the butter chicken here. Best butter chicken I have tasted. Only thing we didn’t like was the wait time. Other than that, it’s great!
Great local indian restaurant in clayton area. This is what you called “you get what you pay”. Its delicious, best authentic indian food i’ve ever tried so far, especially the meat were all so tender and melted in your mouth. I order naan bread, biryani goat rive, chicken tandoori, curry lamb, curry cheese tofu and 2 mango shakes. the total was only $57 considering how generous the portion was. However, thestaffs was unfriendly, service was bad and the restaurant ambience was crowded, full and chaos.
Probably next time, gonna get myself a take away instead of eating there. Love the food!#BHAsFoodDiary
The food was good and not too spicy. Service and decor were horrible but the pricing is so cheap so it’s understandable. I’d recommend the butter chicken with naan DELICIOUS.
Ordered butter chicken meal with naan, rice and veg. Butter chicken sauce, sweeter taste catering for western clients but still very good. Naan was fresh and free papadums good as well. Will return, noticed lots of locals eating here which is always a good sign. Decor very basic but service is good.
Best Indian this side of Melbourne. Relatively fast service. Pretty crap decor but you’re there for the food, not the decor. Cheap as chips and fantastic serving sizes! I go here at least once a week. Paneer is always a hit.
Food is cheap and good. Ordered the garlic naan, tandoori chicken, chicken curry, paneer saag and mango lassi. The meal came with 2 different yoghurt sauces, pickles, pickled onion, fresh salad and 3 papadums. The tandoori chicken was a little tough and dry but otherwise can’t complain about the food. Come here if you want cheap and delicious Indian food.
Small little take away joint with some sitting available.
The mild butter chicken had more spices that ideal but this is a more personal thing. I had a samosa as an entree, this is mild but got more spicier as you had more. From someone who can only enjoy mild Indian dishes, the food here tends to be more spicy end, even for mild dishes. The cheese naan was okay but have had better.
Points for: excellent value, awesome dishes
Dine Time: weekend dinner
It's the first time I've seen, and joined a line outside an Indian restaurant!
Looking at the dishes other tables were eating - everything looked so appetising but I just didn't know what they were!
Anyway, it is a very casual service with basic tables.
Went with eggplant masala - not a strong flavour of eggplant, but still good with rice and naan.
Saag lamb was very nice - lamb was tender, the gravy was creamy buttery with blended spinach.
Tandoori chicken had good flavour from the marinade, also good value.
The naan and roti were fresh and hot...so good at only $1.50 ea.
I'll be back for the butter chicken when I'm off my diet!
The is the better one. I generally order the paneer and its been pretty good most of the time. Never been a let down as such. I been impressed with the quality of their foods.
Service has been fine. Never had a problem with my order.
Their paneer palek and naan was amazing. Was craving for some indian cuisine and the meal definitely satisfied my craving. Despite having mild, for the spice level, I could feel it and it was a comfortable heat for me. Staff wasn't too friendly but not rude either, and still delivers prompt service! Will come back for their curries!
This is the place to go for great Indian food at great prices. Their fresh made naan bread is so delicious! Also recommend the tandoori chicken.
Chloe's bhature 👌🏼was yummy.. will definitely visit and recommend Indian foodies to enjoy the cuisine once.😊
Badam shake was okay okay, mango shake was not upto my taste but ice cream shake was good. 😋
For non vegetarians can't say much but the delicacies were well served.
Love the butter chicken here. Sauce is made well and the chicken is tender. Rice is decent and the naan is well made. The samosa is crispy with spicy filling. The place is quite crowded so service is a hit or miss
My favourite Indian restaurant in Clayton. The curries are all decent and takeaway prices are very reasonable with relatively good portion sizes. The restaurant itself looks cramped so wouldn't recommend eating in.
I thought I might try this Dhaba style food. Did a take away. Ordered Paneer Masala and Naan. It was good. But i had asked it to be spicy and it was not at all spicy. I would say its got potential. But looks like I might not try it again.
Nice place to have Indian food with a reasonable price.
Butter Chicken (4.5/5) - It has a perfect balance of sweet and sour, the chicken pieces are large and tender. The creamy sauce makes it a perfect dish to pair with naan/ roti
Masala Lamb (3/5) - The lamb is really fresh and juicy, however the green pepper taste is too strong for me and the sauce is a bit too greasy.
Roti/ Naan (4/5) - Roti is fluffy inside and crispy outside, it's my personal favorite. Naan is like a thin version pan fried pita bread. However, on the day i visited, both of them are a little bit burnt.
Very affordable indian food in melbourne. Food tastes better than other indian restaurants around.
Worth every buck.
Price: Economic
Taste: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
An affordable and delicious Indian restaurant. With basic ambience and presentation this place wins my heart with the food. bustling with people and waiters, this cramped up place will satisfy your tummy right!
I would recommend this place for some good Indian curries and chaat but not for the biryani/pulav.
Very tasty fish vindaloo.. Good service and nice food.. Although chhole bhature were not good enough.. Rotis and traditional Indian dishes were nice..
My boyfriend and I's go to Indian restaurant that's quite close to where I live - Really cheap good authentic Indian food. I love butter chicken curry here, probably the only dish I always order. Quick service and friendly staff.
I'm definitely like the favors of all dishes and especially the pic 3( lamb... )Isn't on the menu and the waiters recommended me to order this popular item. I'm absolutely love it❤️👏🏼🌝
My current go-to place for cheap and filling Indian food! There are two of these restaurants with the same name on Clayton Road - this is the bigger one of the two and is definitely busier. I'll admit that I was definitely feeling out of my comfort zone on my first visit here as I haven't dined out for Indian food before. But our waitress was nice enough to provide us with her recommendations and explain the dishes on the menu for us.
I am not very good with spicy food so I had to stick with the non-spicy curries (both the butter chicken or chicken pi-aza are amazing!). No need to spring for the special naan breads with stuffings, the original was already good enough for us! :P
Awesome value for money. But the restaurant is always hopelessly full and cramped inside. Best bet for a takeaway. Friendly staff and extremely quick service.
This is my go to indian restaurant. My favourite dishes; butter chicken and eggplant masala with some roti or naan. You can ask them to not put butter on your roti/naan if you want to be slightly healthier 😁 Delicious food, friendly service and cheap. Don't forget to try mango lassi, it goes well with curries!
I won't consider myself as a connoiseur of Indian cuisine, but I've been to a bunch and this restaurant gives you the best value for your money. We're a family of 3 and our total bill cost us $19! Got 2 milkshakes plus several pieces of nan and a curry which we shared because the waiter made a mistake not getting our order. Bless him! The mushroom curry was quite tasty and spicy, that we didn't need our original order :) So, in the end, he saved us $7 and we were so full and satisfied with our meal.
Good take away food and decent size.. Very good food will use. For take away more often.
WOAH dat flavour. Anshumann is by far my favourite Indian restaurant. Their curries are thick, rich and very flavoursome. Butter chicken is superb and the Nawab Paneer is just the best - so creamy. Not for the faint hearted, arrive with an empty stomach! Would highly recommend.
Authentic Indian. Very authentic and very cheap. There are plenty of Indian restaurants around, but most are alter their menu for westerns. Anshumann isn't one of those. Walking in you get the feeling that you're going to have an authentic experience. The place is usually full of Indian locals (which is always a good sign of a authentic restaurant).
The menu is simple but there are always ever changing specials up on the walls. A dinner for two including two curries, a rice to share and three naan breads will cost you just under $30.
If you're in the area definitely stop by.
Friendly staff and tasty curries. Highly recommended by Indian companies, good food with affordable price. rich lunch option but might be too heavy for late dinner..
My favourite Indian restaurant. I have gotten takeaway from here many times! Dishes have been delicious and consistent every time. Prices are also good. Staff are polite, helpful, fast, but communication is a bit difficult at times. We usually get 2-3 curries and 4 naan, no rice. The dishes come with sauces, pickles and poppadums on the side. I highly recommend the lamb saag, tandoori chicken, goat special, chicken korma, shahi paneer and samosas.
Very good food. Good service. The harabara prawns are amazing. Proper spices used. Table setting quite basic but u will focus on the food once it's served.
What a find! Generous and very traditional. So reasonably priced too.
Fantastic dhaba experience. Best indian restaurant in taste buds terms. Would raise my hands any time compared to the other indian places that serve every main meal on a tomato base.
Tasty simple and satisfying meal and even better it was very cheap.
Will be coming back for more.. Y had been recommended this place by a non-Indian friend of his, despite being an Indian and I was craving Indian food so we made our way down. This restaurant has two properties on both sides of Clayton Road, and when we went, around 5PM one of them was closed, I'm assuming due to the lower level of traffic its smarter to have one open. As soon as we sat down at our table, the extra plates were swiftly taken away and water was placed at our table as well as pappadum, or pappad as the Indians say. We ordered a half tandoori chicken, eggplant masala, a bowl of rice and 2 naan's as well as a mango shake for us to share. Funnily enough, the chicken and the eggplant dish came about 5 minutes before the rice and the naan, which was odd. The drink was surprisingly not as cold as expected, most people complain when drinks have too much ice and not enough drink, but this had no ice so it was lukewarm by the end of our meal, especially because it was a warm day. We thoroughly enjoyed the eggplant and the tandoori. The naan too, was a large portion. The waitresses were very nice, checking often to see if we needed anything, and apologized profusely when they realised they forgot to give us a plate of sauces even though we didnt mind at all. They even asked if I was wanting to take my barely consumed Mango Drink, even though I had no intention of having a lukewarm drink. It only cost us $26 for the whole meal! So cheap! The atmosphere is well, Indian, mostly they play tacky Hindi songs which Y had to translate for me...even though some were in English
K
Delicious food that is cheap and great value. I ordered the vegetable thali and loved it.
Best Indian food I have had in Australia. Could make inside a bit warmer!
Super awesome food Just lov.... Super awesome food
Just loved it..... :)
The best food I have ever eaten in 10 years in a restaurant in Australia
We keep coming back for more. Satisfying food, popular take away joint at our home, especially because of its price, quantities, and close proximity. They come up with nice specials, similar to dhaaba food, warm food and great indian flavours.
The food was delicious. We had Chicken tikka masala, Shahi Paneer and Mango Lassi. Everything was just awesome. Our total bill was below $30 for 2 ppls.
Best ever Indian food!. Melbourne will always be memorable thanks to the Indian food at Anshumann Da Dhaba!
Mouthwatering curries, soft naan bread and the huge variety of dishes available makes this a must visit if you are into Indian food and visiting Melbourne.
I wish portions could be abit bigger for the chicken tikka. $8-9 for 4 pieces of chicken thigh is quite steep. Otherwise good Indian food without the fancy decorations.
Don't believe the (one?) negative review of Anshumann. We went there for the first time 3 July and it's the best Indian food we've had in a long time. Why did we go? The Indonesian place opposite was less than appealing and we could see this place was packed. There are pumping punjabi beats when you walk in and the waiting staff are friendly and fast. We had gorgeous tender chicken tikka, tasty naan and lamb Korma which was rich and fragrant but light, not oily. A 'must try' is the mango lassi, so yummy. The topper? $29.50 bill. We are definitely returning.
Reasonably priced dishes and they tasted
Great indian food. 10/10 as food lover
Yummy. Just ordered takeaway. Got Chicken Korma with 2 pieces of naan bread and yoghurt. I wouldnt have ordered the yoghurt if I knew they already give u a small serve with pickled onions, a few papadums and something else I've never had so I dont know what to call it.
Tasted nice and didnt take too long to cook up.
I ordered Spicy but I think next time I'll see if they can make it extra spicy as it wasnt hot enough for me. However for the average person id recommend having medium or mild
Authentic Northern Indian. I usually don't like northern indian food. You know like lamb rogan josh etc... they are usually stodgy sauced and all taste the same. Anshuman is different. It is quite spicy and the sauces have interesting depth of flavour and seem fresher. I asked the man at the counter (seemed to be the boos) to recommend a couple of things he thought we should try and he asked how spicy (medium) and suggested a couple of dishes and naan to takeaway. They give you yoghurt, pickled onion and a hot chutney along with some papadums to accompany your takeaway meal which I think is a nice touch - the onion was especially good and something we had never tried.
We will definitely add this to our local takeaway options list and it is cheaper than our usual fave.
Gotta say, his version of medium was extremely spicy and hot to us.
The service was great, we had water and pappadums on our table before we could ask. The food was great, cheap and fast. Can't wait to go back! We had the dal makhani and dhaba eggplant with rice and garlic naan.
Actually I'm not sure what is the authentic Indian food. But the roti, naan korma and butter chicken in this shop are all good. The price is reasonable and the vibe feels local.
Anshumann is my favourite Indian restaurant to go to whenever I am in the area. You can tell they take great care in the food they make and it is authentic Indian - expertly cooked. Their butter chicken is my favourite. Thank you for having me - I’ll be sure to come again.
We love food over there. My husband is been going there over 15 years now and we will still go but the staff needs training. No smile, rude answers. I visit with my husband and son and she refused at first to give us three plates I mean chanrge me if you want but who refuse for an extra plates and cutleries. Hopefully will see some difference when we go there next
