Came to try out what the new hype was when it had first opened in the food district of QV, close to Melbourne Central train station.
Menu includes a large variety of Korean dishes and BBQ options to choose from. Price, however, is very expensive for how little you get. Furthermore, the set won't be enough to fill you up. If it's the quality of meat that makes it pricy, then that would explain it although the flavour on the meat wasn't all that amazing.
We ordered the pork set, which was beautifully presented to us in a pig-shape wooden board platter. The BBQ pork had a very clean taste, although, I had wished for it to be a bit smokier and aromatic flavour. Some of the pork had too much fat, which did not allow us to enjoy enough for the porkiness.
We had a bunch of sides, where some were hit and misses. Surprisingly, the salad was refreshing and had a mix of sweet and sour which I really enjoyed. The spicy spring onion salad was also a hit, with the spicy sweet sauce from the gochujang and the aromatic kick from the spring onions making it a great topping on the BBQ pork.
Corn cheese - very small and very little cheese pull factor. Loved how the staff displayed a nice show with their blow-torch to give that nice char on the cheese.
Kimchi pancake was okay, a bit soggy in the middle but nicely crispy on the rim. Would definitely prefer their seafood pancake.
Japchae was amazing, with its rich soy flavour, the aromatic sesame seasoning, and the juicy well-seasoned beef.
Tteokbokki was delicious - got the cheese pull factor right and the spicy and salty yet sweet gochujang sauce was addicting. The rice cakes were soft and chewy, and altogether it was a warm fluffy guilty bite of pleasure. Spicy rice cakes will always be my favourite dish.
Great place to hang out with friends in this cozy and fun restaurant, and I'd love to come back and try their large options of beef, wagyu and dishes.
When I go kbbq I normally stick to wagyu however this time around I decided to venture out and try a combo set containing different meats.
Quality of the meat was really good as they were all tender and juicy. Although the set looks small, you do get pretty full as the restaurant is really generous when it comes to their side dishes. Love how all the sides are placed on a lazy Susan as well!
🍴Combo set - Pork belly, Pork Jowl, Beef brisket in soy sauce, beef scotch and chicken thigh. Rice and tofu stew is also included.
Seorae Galmaegi was rowdy as heck. Perfect as a dinner stop before a night out, the pumping music gets you in the right mood 👌.
Ordered:
🐷 Pork Set: pork belly, pork jowl, marinated pork ribs, pork skirt and spicy pork ($69.00)
🐄 Angus Set: brisket roll, beef galbi, beef scotch, beef short rib and beef bulgogi ($77.00)
👅 Ox Tongue: our favourite ox tongue thinly sliced and served with house sauce ($21.80)
🍝 Japchae: stir-fried glass noodle with bulgogi and assorted vegetables ($17.80)
🥞 Kimchi Pancake: crispy authentic Korean kimchi pancake ($17.80)
Review:
The 🥩 sets were unreal. It comes in a platter of the shape of the meat you ordered, so you don't get confused. This attention to detail made it really fun and very instagrammable! The quality of meats was pretty decent. Each set also came with 2 bowls of rice.
The banchan (side dishes) came on a lazy Susan which was honestly so extra... but it made it very accessible for the people on our table. Even though we had to flag the waiters down to replenish the banchan, they were happy to give us more for free.
The kimchi pancake was a let down. The description promised crispy, but it came a bit too thick, and a little flat. Wouldn't recommend this 🙅♀️.
The service was a little distant. I had to manually walk up to the servers several times, instead of getting the table service I was used to. Nonetheless, they were pretty friendly and were happy to give us a link to their mad playlist that night 😅.
The atmosphere was definitely perfect for pre-clubbing vibes. Loud, banging music - so be prepared to yell at your friends across the table. A little dim, and everyone around is pretty rowdy.
Call up (I had to dial in 3 times) to make your table reservation today!
Delicious & beautifully presented food, great ambiance, Korean music playing in the background and variety of options from the menu. Loved our Korean BBQ and will definitely be back!
I've tried a lot of korean BBQ places in Melbourne and @seoraemelb has got to be one of the best. Definitely making this place my go-to for KBBQ 😍⠀
Food: 4/5⠀
Service: 4.2/5⠀
Ambience: 4/5 ⠀
Pros: the egg!! Haven't seen any other kbbq place do it, and did I mention it is complementary refills?? Amazing! The corn cheese is melted with a seared gun infront of us. Sides are great also!
Cons: meat quality could be better but it's still good.
3.5
really good amount of meat ! and the quality is amazing too
One of my favourite Korean in the CBD
My second time visiting Seorae and it was still really good! We arrived at their opening time and were seated immediately. We ordered the Angus Beef Set, Marinated Pork Rib, Seafood Pancake, Japchae and Watermelon Soju.
The beef set was really delicious. I think there was a good amount of meat - not too much that you’ll feel sick but not too little that you’ll feel hungry. The quality of the beef was really good and the cuts were extremely juicy and tender (despite not being Wagyu). The Marinated Pork Rib was amazing - highly recommend trying it too!
The seafood pancake was very crispy, light and full of seafood. Can’t go wrong with it! The japchae was decent but nothing special - probably wouldn’t order again.
The watermelon soju is so refreshing and delicious, although it is quite pricey. It’s very light on alcohol and hardly any soju flavour - tastes mostly like watermelon juice. I like that it has fresh watermelon balls inside too.
Service was surprisingly much better than expected. Since it wasn’t too busy, the waiter cooked all the meat for us and was constantly checking up on us.
Would definitely recommend!
First time trying Seorae Galmaegj and really enjoyed it! From the minute I stepped in, the staff were smiling, friendly and attentive.
Food was definately a winner here with food coming out fresh but quick. We opted for the beef platter and added in pork belly. I love that the set comes with kimchi soup and rice. We added in the bimbibap to have with the meat making it 10x better. The amount of sides given was a bonus and even on a lazy Susan!
Definitely will be back to try more food. Keen to try the fried chicken and seafood pancake..
Great for families for a weekend lunch! Outside seating as well. Gem among the busier options within the area. Great service and pricing wasn't bad for the quality. Will become a regular there now.
Excellent and affordable korean bbq. Value for money and tasty. It could do with more variety especially for persons who do not eat a lot of the same meat. But other than that I am happy with the food, service and ambience.
What makes this Korean BBQ a little different from the others is the focus on the pork skirt part of the meat. However I usually order the Angus beef platter which costs only $69 set for 2 people and comes with side dishes, 2 serves of rice and either kimchi or soybean stew. They also pour egg in the grill to cook while you bbq the meats which is a nice little bonus.
Came here with two mates for some dinner. We were situated at qv area and was craving kbbq. The weather was horrible so this place was the best option in terms of distance from where we were and avoiding the rain. Prior to this visit, we only knew the name as a friend of ours had performed for the opening of this restaurant.
First impression: was welcomed instantly and settled in pretty quick. In terms of order, we had to try to get their attention constantly as they’re one of the korean bbq places that don’t have the service button.
Food: we ordered a pork set which came with 5 flavoured port along with rice and soup. We also ordered corn cheese as usual! The food was pretty nice but I felt the portion is a bit small compared to other places for its price.
Really love the egg that’s placed around the bbq grill (:
Service: stuff are definitely very welcoming and nice. They five you the feeling of wanting to be a returning customer.
This is one of the best korean bbq place in melbourne. They are so generous with their banchan ( side dishes ) . We asked for repeat serves and they have given us as well. We had their shochu and I liked the grape 🍇 version.
I love the varieties they got ! The wagyu beef are awesome and of great quality . And their pork is also delicious and tender .
Love the great atmosphere. Best to book cos it gonna be a long wait .
This restaurant can be found in many places in the world too.
Keep up with the great service and more businesses coming your way !
Melbourne korean bbq needs to have a wider variety of side dishes , just like this establishment. And, also to be generous in allowing repeat serves too.
very nice bbq restaurant. recommended. this restaurant is one of my favorites from Korea to here haha. I'm glad melbourne has this place. love it!
Good place to hangout and have dinner with friends. Price was good to share with a group of people. For 4 people with all the food I posted, we each pay 💰~31. The meat was well seasoned, spicy fried chicken was amazing, side dishes were nice as well.

This place has become my new favourite Kbbq place in the CBD. The quality of the beef here is top notch and the price is fairly expensive. The pork skirt seems to be pretty popular here as well, we tried the soy version and it was pretty good. Staff was friendly and has really fast service.
Was well overdue for a KBBQ catch and I think we picked a good one ❤️
LOVE:
🔸The beef set was DA BOMB, loved every cut on there, we were quietly fighting over the pieces (I lost 😅)
🔸The fact the water melon soju came in a watermelon!!!!! 🍉 haha so much fun and had watermelon balls in it too which was amazing
🔸 I didn't have any of it but my friends said the spicy chicken was really nice! I left it mostly because one of my friends doesn't eat pork or beef so I didn't want to take his small share of the meal haha
🔸Love the set up as well, it's really clever to have to sides hold the cooked meat, keeping it warm but not burning it!
LIKE:
🔸The pork set, some of the cuts were really nice, like the pork belly, but some the table wasn't as much of a fan of, probably would have been better off getting random adhoc pork cuts instead 😊
🔸The watermelon soju was probably a bit too weak, next time I would buy a plain soju and pour that straight in!
FEEDBACK:
🔹Kimchi pancake could have had more flavour and been crispier, wasn't a major downer, just a little bit of feedback
Delicious kbbq place, enjoyed everything we ordered. The service was also excellent! They constantly refreshed the grill when it got dirty without us even needing to ask! would definitely go here again!

• I arrived at Seorae 5mins before the kitchen closed but they still made me feel very welcome.
• Premium wagyu set $98 (wagyu oyster blade, wagyu scotch fillet, wagyu cap eye, wagyu rib finger, wagyu short rib): The set also comes with a mini hot pot (kimchi or soybean), variety of side dishes, salad with black sesame dressing and two rice bowls.
• Pork belly $15.8
• My sister and I love their kimchi and all their side dishes. The three types of dipping sauce (ssamjiang, soy sauce, sesame oil) is also really good. • Their kimchi soup is absolutely delicious, a bit spicy and also includes several slices of pork.
• Both beef and pork are tender.
Came here and ordered the BBQ beef set, set out of the restaurant was beautiful and super busy. Staff were friendly and presentable, the food was 👌👌👌 service was efficient and everything arrived within a short amount of time 😊 I'm excited to go back again to try the pork set next time!
Korean BBQ joint specializing in pork cuts. We took one of the smallest meal and it was just enough for the two of us. The meat are juicy and tender, service can be a little more attentive but still on acceptable level seeing how they just opened up. The complimentary salad is great too!
This is a busy place on a Friday night, needs to queue up and also a bit hard to squeeze in 5 people in a table. Seems like most tables are set up for 4 or 2 people. We've tried their bbq as well as the other dishes. All very tasty. I love that they blow torch the cheese at the table on for the Corn Cheese and the cheese on the Kimchi Jeon. I also like that we can order mini stew pots, which allow us to try more dishes.
I was eager to try Seorae Galmaegi, as it's a chain from South Korea.
Inside, it's a little bit smokey as expected.
Points for using proper charcoal, gave the meat a nice flavour.
Price wise, it's pretty on-par with other popular k-bbqs around Melbourne.
The watermelon soju is impressive in photos, but very weak.
Would I return? Maybe cos of the central location but there's so many more k-bbqs to try in Melbourne.
Comfortable interior and food taste good. Prices are reasonable and next time will try the bbq. Very generous with the free side dishes overall good experience

Overall score: 17/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: great seafood pancake in Melbourne
*
Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 🍤 The seafood pancake was one of the best I’ve had in Melbourne - generous seafood portions, crispy and delicious batter. Would come back just for that.
🥩they serve the pork bbq set with steamed egg, which was simple and delicious. The pork bbq slices were consistently juicy and tender - I preferred the sweeter variant compared to the spicy one.
🍗 the boneless fried chicken was not the best in this city, but I appreciate that it came with tasty cheese sauce. Chicken meat was a bit dry though.
🍉 the watermelon soju was HUGE. We wished they added more alcohol to it, but otherwise it went really well with the bbq.
*
Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - You could store your bag and coat within the chair, which I thought was innovative and prevents transfer of smell. The bbq place was also modern and vibrant!
*
Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️- we paid $50/person and had a feast! Standard pricing for bbqs - worth it if you are a meat lover.
*
Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Food presentation was great! Very appetising
*
Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - we had to constantly ask for our side dishes to be refilled. It was either a case of us being too greedy or them not giving enough kimchi each time!
Ran into this place while looking for another restaurant and I do not regret it. Fantastic cozy Korean BBQ place. Great venue to share with friends. Service was excellent despite a full house. We had the Wagyu bbq set and totally loved it. Sides were plenty and delicious, people in tables around us looked very happy and other dishes looked amazing too. The bill wasn't cheap but I felt it matched the value of the food and overall experience. I will come back, no doubt.
Had the spicy shin ramen +Kimchi pancake and thoroughly enjoyed both dishes. I also really loved how there were so many side dishes- I especially liked the pickled vegetables !
The only thing I didn’t really enjoy was that it took so long to get the waiters attention even though the shop wasn’t super busy 😓
Had the Korean bbq and the army stew, the food was really good - the menu includes lots of different meats and courses where you could really try out some korean dishes which you probably wouldn’t have tried otherwise.
Went here for lunch with my friend. We ordered two lunch specials, the japchae and the marinated beef slices. Both had a very strong flavour. The beef was very juicy and had a nice salty bulgogi sauce taste, while the japchae was also quite salt, but had a lighter taste to it. I felt like you could eat the japchae for ages and not feel bloated. Each dish came with a set of side dishes including kimchi, pickled radish and pasta. We shared the dishes and there was definitely enough to keep us full. One downside was the service. Even though we were the first to arrive, we had to ask for water ourselves. Similarly, our meal take around 45 minutes to come.
I enjoyed this restaurant. We got the Angus beef set that also came with kimchi soup, salad and 4 side dishes. I think the service was good for us. I like that the food was well presented, restaurant well ventilated and was super full after the meal. They could however improve quality of meat to the price paid.
Very good selection of meats, we ordered the Pork set and the boneless fried chicken with cheese. The amount of meat you get in each serving is very generous! Staff were attentive and friendly. Will definitely come back!
The food is delicious & staff is so friendly! And I absolutely love the atmosphere the restaurant gives off, as well as its aesthetics.
Would deffs recommend and come back to!! 😍💕
What a surprise? A new korean bbq place with all the yummy complimentary side dishes, we ordered a seafood pancake and Japchae as extra, clearly we over ordered... everything was delicious, fairly priced as well. Service was friendly and courteous. Love the seating booths for families.
Lovely and clean korean bbq restaurant. The bbq was delicious and was cooked by the waiter himself which was very nice of him and I especially enjoyed the cold noodles in the homemade soup/broth. Great service and love the tidiness of the restaurant!
Seorae Galmaegi is a Korean BBQ restaurant that recently opened at QV Melbourne. Established in South Korea in 2007, its signature dish is pork skirt meat.
We visited on a Sunday evening and were warmly greeted. Diners can opt to have KBBQ or order something else from the menu. We went for the KBBQ and ordered the pork skirt meat set, a chicken set, vegetables and a side of rice. Along with our order we received banchan, dipping sauce and egg which cooks in a separate section of the grill.
This was my first time trying pork skirt meat, it was tender, juicy and full of flavour and I would order this again. The chicken and vegetables were also enjoyable although the highlight for me was the pork skirt meat. Egg is poured into a separate section of the grill as soon as the grill is set up by the staff. We waited for the egg to set so it was nice and fluffy and it complimented our meal nicely.
Overall I enjoyed Seorae Galmaegi, staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. The only thing I wish that was different was that the menu combined cuts of meat as the sets only included one type of meat such as pork or beef.
I rate Seorae Galmaegi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5.
Naengmyeon (냉면) or Cold Noodle Soup hunt in Melbourne during Summer!
—
Price: $14.80 lunch special - comes with a set of side dish (no credit card surcharge).
—
The broth is really nice! I think they could add a bit of ice to make it colder and more refreshing. It comes in a tray with a set of side dish, vinegar and mustard - where other places you have to ask to get all these... Beef is also tender. Service is good during that time, they are friendly and attentive. The place is very clean and since it’s quite new, it’s not smelly during lunch time (only 1 table was having a kbbq). Overall I am satisfied with the cold noodle soup and will come back to try different food!
Very good korean food, worth the price. Pricing is similar to the average korean bbq restaurants.
Every item on the menu looks really tempting!!! 😋😋🤤🤤
Though service was lacking, will definitely still come back for the food!!! 😍😍👍🏻👍🏻
Very good korean barbecue and the ventilation system is effective.
Remember the feeling when you finish eating in korean barbecue and your favourite jacket and clothes smell? Not this place. Pretty good service too. There is even the egg pudding at the side of the barbecue dish. So good.
Korean bbq fine dining. Food was great. They had some good music playing and it’s not smokey inside like other Korean bbq places. My only complaint is the serving size for wagu beef, on the menu it shows a picture of 9 pieces of beef but when it arrives it is only 3 pieces! Update: went back and tried the set menu. Good value and filled us up. :) will be back again.
It opened a few days ago, I went here on this Sunday, it’s quite good. The environment inside and outside are both nice, because it’s new, it’s really clean, and not like the other Korean barbecue, it doesn’t have a big smell.
We ordered a set for the pork rib?(I’m not sure the English name sorry)
And two other beef dishes. And a Korean seafood pancake.
The pork set is nice, the amount is quite big, there are sesame salad, two bowls of rice, one Korean soup, and different types of pork meat that served on a pig shape dish.
The meat are fresh, they are chewy and ‘juicy’ (can I use this word to describe?) they taste both good with the sauces or you just eat it.
Finally, the Korean seafood pancake. We asked the waiter for the desserts, he told us this restaurant only serve salty desserts, there’s no sweet dessert in this store! What! (However they still taste really good)
The pancake is really nice, the size of the pancake is like a pizza, it’s big, and tasty.
I really recommend you guys can go and have a try this store, it’s nice. And 4 of us only spent 126$ for dinner. 👍🏻赞
Newly opened, not yet have a contact phone no for booking. Booking in person before hand accepted. Expect long waiting Q on Friday night. Nice deco
