Came to try out what the new hype was when it had first opened in the food district of QV, close to Melbourne Central train station.
Menu includes a large variety of Korean dishes and BBQ options to choose from. Price, however, is very expensive for how little you get. Furthermore, the set won't be enough to fill you up. If it's the quality of meat that makes it pricy, then that would explain it although the flavour on the meat wasn't all that amazing.
We ordered the pork set, which was beautifully presented to us in a pig-shape wooden board platter. The BBQ pork had a very clean taste, although, I had wished for it to be a bit smokier and aromatic flavour. Some of the pork had too much fat, which did not allow us to enjoy enough for the porkiness.
We had a bunch of sides, where some were hit and misses. Surprisingly, the salad was refreshing and had a mix of sweet and sour which I really enjoyed. The spicy spring onion salad was also a hit, with the spicy sweet sauce from the gochujang and the aromatic kick from the spring onions making it a great topping on the BBQ pork.
Corn cheese - very small and very little cheese pull factor. Loved how the staff displayed a nice show with their blow-torch to give that nice char on the cheese.
Kimchi pancake was okay, a bit soggy in the middle but nicely crispy on the rim. Would definitely prefer their seafood pancake.
Japchae was amazing, with its rich soy flavour, the aromatic sesame seasoning, and the juicy well-seasoned beef.
Tteokbokki was delicious - got the cheese pull factor right and the spicy and salty yet sweet gochujang sauce was addicting. The rice cakes were soft and chewy, and altogether it was a warm fluffy guilty bite of pleasure. Spicy rice cakes will always be my favourite dish.
Great place to hang out with friends in this cozy and fun restaurant, and I'd love to come back and try their large options of beef, wagyu and dishes.
When I go kbbq I normally stick to wagyu however this time around I decided to venture out and try a combo set containing different meats.
Quality of the meat was really good as they were all tender and juicy. Although the set looks small, you do get pretty full as the restaurant is really generous when it comes to their side dishes. Love how all the sides are placed on a lazy Susan as well!
๐ดCombo set - Pork belly, Pork Jowl, Beef brisket in soy sauce, beef scotch and chicken thigh. Rice and tofu stew is also included.
Seorae Galmaegi was rowdy as heck. Perfect as a dinner stop before a night out, the pumping music gets you in the right mood ๐.
Ordered:
๐ท Pork Set: pork belly, pork jowl, marinated pork ribs, pork skirt and spicy pork ($69.00)
๐ Angus Set: brisket roll, beef galbi, beef scotch, beef short rib and beef bulgogi ($77.00)
๐
Ox Tongue: our favourite ox tongue thinly sliced and served with house sauce ($21.80)
๐ Japchae: stir-fried glass noodle with bulgogi and assorted vegetables ($17.80)
๐ฅ Kimchi Pancake: crispy authentic Korean kimchi pancake ($17.80)
Review:
The ๐ฅฉ sets were unreal. It comes in a platter of the shape of the meat you ordered, so you don't get confused. This attention to detail made it really fun and very instagrammable! The quality of meats was pretty decent. Each set also came with 2 bowls of rice.
The banchan (side dishes) came on a lazy Susan which was honestly so extra... but it made it very accessible for the people on our table. Even though we had to flag the waiters down to replenish the banchan, they were happy to give us more for free.
The kimchi pancake was a let down. The description promised crispy, but it came a bit too thick, and a little flat. Wouldn't recommend this ๐
โโ๏ธ.
The service was a little distant. I had to manually walk up to the servers several times, instead of getting the table service I was used to. Nonetheless, they were pretty friendly and were happy to give us a link to their mad playlist that night ๐
.
The atmosphere was definitely perfect for pre-clubbing vibes. Loud, banging music - so be prepared to yell at your friends across the table. A little dim, and everyone around is pretty rowdy.
Call up (I had to dial in 3 times) to make your table reservation today!
