Review @siam Thai Restaurant - Melbourne

Nathan Kelly
We came here with the intention of trying the hotpot but the selection was quite small so we opted to order from the normal menu instead. I ordered the Tom yum soup, pork neck skewers, satay chicken skewers, roti bread and pineapple fried rice. The pork was tender and I loved the dipping sauce, it was sweet and tangy and full of herbs and spices. The satay chicken was a bit dry and personally I found the sauce too creamy. The roti bread was very buttery and crisp on the outside however I would prefer it more flaky. The pineapple fried rice was delicious, super tasty although there wasn’t much pineapple. The Tom yum was very tasty and generous with seafood. Overall a delicious and satisfying meal. I highly recommend the pineapple fried rice and pork neck skewers.

Close to the Chinatown part of Melbourne, this place has a lot of competition however, I found my meal very good. At 2pm there were only a few customers so got a nice seat. Staff were quick to give me some water and the menu and after a few minutes of making the difficult decision of whether to have noodles or rice, my order was taken. Food was prepared quickly and portion size was good. The pad thai came with a free lunchtime offer and the iced tea was superb and I mean superb. So delicious that I asked how they made it. Price was $14 for the lunch. With so many other places to eat, this place did hold its own however, as I explore the area more, it'll be interesting how it holds up against the many other eateries nearby.. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible.

Tried this recently. Food was really good Had a noodle soup & Pananag chicken with rice & Pineapple fried rice ..both dishes had good portion size, though our Satay chicken size starter was small..than as shown in menu photos. But everything tasted quite good. Happy to Recommend the place

Thai restaurant that also sell Thai steam boat which is quite rare in Melbourne. We ordered the grilled pork which was juicy and tasty. The wagyu boat noodle was disappointing. The beef was tough for a wagyu although soup was surprisingly pretty good. Food - 6 Service - 8 Vibe - 7 Price - $$$

We had the garlic fish, pork belly pork neck, pad see ew, massiman and desserts. It tasted so delicious, we stuffed our face then we had food coma. 👍

Visited this place with a colleague who enjoys Thai cuisine and takes spicy food. It was our first visit here and was expecting decent authentic Thai food given the fairly good reviews. Despite the friendly service, we were disappointed with the food. We're ordered Tom yum soup, pineapple fried rice and grilled pork neck. All dishes were salty, tom yum soup had the tanginess but lacked spiciness. Grilled pork neck were just fatty meat. Unlikely to make a return visit.

Visited with my relatives on Sunday for lunch. We ordered couple of starters and some main course. Ordered Moo Ping (Skewered Pork) as one of the starters, and what we received was totally different than what the picture in the menu showed it as (photos attached). Although the main course food was pretty decent and enjoyable, this goof up with the starters was a mood killer. Would give it a miss next time.

The food was good and the service was average...we had the chicken nuts dish and the Penang curry with rice, both of the dishes were good

Very friendly service and delicious food.
We ordered the moo bing, boat noodle and panang curry with crispy pork belly. Along with a bowl of jasmine rice this a sufficient meal for two people. 😃
The flavours were all amazing. 😋
We used the Gold 1+1 offer and experienced no issues during our meal.

My Rating: 4.5

What a wonderful random discovery today. It’s been a while since I walked up Bourke Street when I noticed Siam Thai Restaurant. The service and food were both amazing. Generous portions and lots of flavours!

🔆LOCATION🔆

Siam Thai is situated on Bourke Street, near the corner of Russell Street. The restaurant is spacious and as you walk in, there is a nice relaxed vibe.

🔆SERVICE🔆

The staff are extremely friendly and very efficient with the service and clearing of tables. They seem to have some kind of orderly system which works really well. My order was made ever so quickly which I wasn’t expecting as the restaurant was 70% capacity and there was a large group if over 20 people.

🔆MENU/PRICE🔆

I decided to try something extremely local Thai food which I love to eat.

Traditional Boat Noodle, $

Moo Ping Skewers (2), $7.00
(Skewered pork neck marinated with Thai herbs and special sauce)

🔆VERDICT🔆

Holy moly! The boat noodle serving was soo big, I had to ask for a take away container to take the rest home. I did get charge 20c for the container which was fine. The tender beef was exactly that, it was soft and tender and the beef balls had great flavour. The broth was heavy (as it should be) and delicious with flavours of lemongrass, cinnamon, star anise and other spices.

The pork skewers was also very delicious. The pork neck was tender and practically almost feel off the skewer. The flavours of the marinade was light and tasty, I could have ordered another serve but I was too full. I will definitely return to try other items on their extensive menu. I can definitely confirm the food here is authentic Thai.

Seafood does not taste fresh. Curry duck tastes dry and bland. Very disappointed.
Stephen Cheng
Good standard meal, everything was good but nothing overly special. Red duck curry was fragrant and coconutty. Crispy pork was very tasty. Squid was ok, not too much flavour.
Busarin Ruangporn
So impressed this restaurant. Nice food and I also really like tropical fruit tea.
Pear BoJae
Taste very fantastic and service was really good. Creap cake very yum
Ploy Natthanit
Nice staff and delicious food. The fruit tea new drink is very good too i want you to try once.

It was my first time eating Thai food so I came here with my friends. The food was so delicious and flavourful. I loved the coconut rice and soft crab. The service was good and the waitresses were nice. Definitely will come back.
The Budget Luncher
Ordered the pork boat noodle, pictures looked great but when the dish arrived it was underwhelming. The portion size was small, and the noodles were not cooked properly - they were stuck together and clumpy so not very enjoyable at all. On the other hand, the thai milk tea float was refreshing, the right level of sweetness and a good complement for the meal.

Tried to dine here using the EatClub app recently.
Made a booking via the app. When i turned up to the restaurant I was advised that table wasn't available and it would be a short wait. Around 20 mins later still no table available, this was despite having a booking. We just left.
Why allow bookings through the app if you are not going to seat patrons?
Melinda
We ordered the son in law eggs, king prawn pad Thai, and the grilled pork neck. All of these dishes came really quick.

The son in law eggs were beautifully fried with crispy skin on the outside and a nice soft yolk on the inside. The tamarind sauce was great.

The pad Thai was good too, the spices were on the side so you could choose your spice level.

Grilled pork neck was a favourite of the night as it had a nice smokey scent, and was nice and tender.

I had my gold membership so expect to use it. Then we got there, sat down. It was nearly half of the menu is not available if you want to use gold member and their staff don’t even want to explain.
I mean, If you don’t want people to use it, don’t except it in the first place. So we decided to walk away from the rude customer service.
Don’t come here if you want to use your gold membership

We were greeted by very friendly staff who sat us down promptly on the table of our choice. We loved the food; the service was fantastic. 5 stars from us.

My girlfriend and I came in hungry as heck, and the food came surprisingly quick! The pineapple fried rice was perfect, juicy and delicious. I ordered the green curry, which had a nice kick of spice to it and definitely fulfilled our hunger and cravings.
Claire Yu Xiao
I always judge a Thai restaurant by its coconut rice. The coconut rice and the dishes all deserved five stars! And Zomato Gold gave me a 1+1 food. Definitely worth it!
徐洁
Not recommended. There's a dead bug in the corner. The rice is overcooked and the veg is uncooked.
Steph
Decided to try this place for lunch as it was on Zomato Gold. Zomato Gold is only applicable for mains 👎🏻 Lunch specials is not included 🙅🏻‍♀️

Ordered:
Prawn Pad Thai $17.8 🍤
Thai Green Curry $16.5 🍛
White Rice $4 🍚

Overall the food wasn’t great, pretty average, might even say below average for the high price they charge. Honestly didn’t enjoy it at all. Ridiculous small serving and it’s extremely pricy for a dish if paid at full price being almost $20.
Wedonutstarve
Overall, we enjoyed the dishes except for the salted egg squid which was more on the sweeter side. Our favourites dish of the night was the Crispy Pork with Broccoli. The crispy pork tasted so sinfully!! Staff are friendly too.

Went here as a family of four. The waitresses who work here are very friendly and attentive. Order came out quickly and food tasted great. We ordered the red duck curry, soft shell crab, tofu satay and coconut rice. The duck curry and coconut rice are must try! We finished off with some delicious crepe cake :)
Jasmine
Great food! Excellent service!
The taste was very satisfying. We ordered one tomyum hotpot, one dish of crispy pork and one whole barramundi fish with tamarind sauce for four people and I think they are all reasonable portions. Definitely recommend this restaurant and we will come back next time!
Emily
Ordered 2 pork belly dishes and they do not disappoint! Very nice environment too, would highly recommend the pork neck skewer
Marilyn Song
Really good Thai food and great customer service!! Strongly recommend for a good family visit!

Such good food for summer! Highly recommend for spicy food lovers!

Value for money price-point wise, but slightly disappointed Zomato gold doesn’t apply to seafood menu items ): portions aren’t massive, but decent!
Christopher Koh
Juicy chicken

My favorite Thai restaurant in Melbourne CBD, especially pork neck!!! 😋 The red duck curry is delicious as well! Definitely coming back for more Thai food.

Amazing staff and the pineapple fried rice was good..the khao soy noodle is not really my favourite but taste ok..
La Música De Gabriela
The red curry is highly recommended

Tasty Thai food
Friendly and fast service
Definitely recommend

We had the masang beef curry and beef boat noodle which were delicious, highly recommend!

The aircon was not working well, the air was so stuffy. We had to get out for some fresh air before we could finish the meal.

The lychee on the duck curry was surprisingly good. Definitely recommend

Good!

Staff was nice and eager to take order. I think the food were a bit over cooked for both dishes we ordered, pineapple fried rice didn't give that pineapple hint much, but the grilled seafood salad was more flavour able for me and my partner. It was overcooked but I can taste the charcoal grilled and the dressing was so refreshing. We will order the seafood dish again but probably try boat noodle the next time.

Visited over the weekend and we really enjoyed the meal. The staff is friendly and attentive.

They had an elaborated menu with varieties and we went with the green curry chicken, crispy pork belly with brocolli, Crab omelette and the grilled pork neck and rice to go with it.

All the dishes were presented really well and it does remind me of good Thai flavours. The highlights were the Crab Omelette and Grilled Pork Neck, they were really good and went well really with the rice.

Overall, the food and portions were reasonable and they are located right in front of the tram stop which makes it handy

Pineapple Fried Rice
Appearance 5/5
Taste 3.5/5
Good: Contains brocoli, carrots, tomatoes, cashews, pineapple is not too sour and sweetness is just right. Portion is just right for one serving.
Bad: Slightly too salty, only managed to ate 3 pineapple slices.
Services 4/5
Price is slightly high for students. But if you are craving for Thai food, just give it a try and who knows you might like it.
#thaifood #pineapplefriedrice #cbd

Their pad Thai is amazing! The lunch menu is definitely much worthy than dinner menu! The dinner portion they served was too small for one person. Will def come back for lunch

Friday evening dinner with friends at this place. It’s right opposite to Tram Stop 7 (route 86/96). The waiting time is usually around 15-20 mins so be prepared to wait.

We ordered Tom Yum Soup (Sea Food) and Son in Law Eggs to share and Pad Thai Prawns for myself. It was quiet filling for 3 of us.
The prawns tasted good but could have been better prepared.
Alex Jory
Likely fake reviews here, so many single review 5 star posts here, in what is no way a 4 star experience. Not good enough. Melbourne has a lot of well priced good food options, leaving little room for venues that are average at best. Service was average, wine old or watered down, pork neck was 90% fat and had to be returned (with no apology), salads very basic cabbage and carrot, satay tasty but half a normal serving size, an inedible over fried and dry prawn - as a garnish I hope?
Basic Plain rice and Satay vegetables shouldn’t really be the highlights of a meal. Even with the regular discounts available I would rather pay more for better quality. No baby change facilities either just to make life difficult.
Eating With Trace
If you're craving Thai food then try it out!
I went with two friends during a late lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. It was quiet but people did come when we were eating
We had 2x lunch special and green curry when we ate. The lunch special came with free drinks and we had the milk tea and lemon ice tea.
Pad see ew w/ beef: portion was alright but it had a good taste. There were large pieces of greens along with the rice noodles which made it worth it.
Pineapple fried rice w/chicken: Not the greatest pineapple fried rice I had but it came in a big portion with chicken.
Green curry: It was a very small portion for $14.50 with rice but it had the spice level was great. Would have preferred a larger bowel of curry.
Curry puff: It was only $2 extra but it was small.
Thai milk tea: Just what you expect from thai milk tea
Lemon Ice tea: I would go back here for it, it was perfect not too sweet and had the nice lemon flavour.
It was filling meal for 3 people so I reccomend to choose a couple of things to share and we went during lunch. You can still order stuff on the main menu so that was a plus!
Thats My Food
I felt like having thai food this Sunday and found @Siam Thai restaurant closest to me so I went in for lunch. I should say that food had almost all the Thai flavors in it. The flavor that was missing was the spiciness. Painting on the walls. This place is located on the corner of Bourke Street and Russel Street. The walls are beautifully painted which creates a really nice and calm interior. The Menu is big which gives you a lot of options to choose from and has images with the dishes which makes the choice a bit easier.

ordered duck curry, taste good, just that the portion is not on par with the price. it’s just about 4-5 thin slices of duck, probably less meat than half a mcdonald fish fillet.

👍🏻 Nice Thai restaurant. Had a birthday dinner with my friends here last night. Friendly staff, specious place and comfy environment, the food is so nice , love their boar noodle and crepe cake ❤️ definitely need to come back again!!!

In a word, must try!!! I always believe that a good restaurant not only have delicious food, but also have a relax atmosphere! In Siam, here, have all!!

I will strongly recommend this restaurant! As I’m a Thai food lover, this restaurant give me taste!!!!

@Siam Thai Restaurant has been one of my best Thai place go whenever I craved for Thai food.
The staffs were really friendly and helpful. I love their stir fried dishes, Beef salad and also their tom yum seafood soup!
i would recommend!

Rating it 2 based on the most recent experience from Oct 5. Visited the place for dinner and ordering started with a disappointment because they wouldn't let me use Zomato Gold on the whole fish that I wanted to order. I went ahead and ordered it anyway and called for a Tom Yum Soup and a seafood main. The chicken in the soup tasted like boiled chicken served at some cheap restaurants and lacked the soup flavor. The seafood main was good but the whole fish was very disappointing. It was served cold (despite specifically asking for it to be served hot) and when I asked them to do something about it, the staff just heated some sauce and put on top of the fish. The sauce tasted very sour and the fish was very dry. The service was much below par as the staff was more focused on cleaning up the vacant tables and get ready to close down though it was about 30 minutes away from closing time.

We visited the restaurant on Monday night! We were warmly welcomed by the waitress. The restaurant looks bright and clean.
Omelette with crab meat is soooo delicious. It remained me the street food that i had in Bangkok.
Beef salad is surprisingly good. The beef is soft and the salad dressing is refreshing
Overall we had good experiences and will come back for other dishes.

Love this place, every food tests very nice!

We ordered the duck curry but the portion was pathetic - very small bowl and we are still hungry after spending $16.50 for the duck curry. Three thin small slices of duck with some veggie in a small bowl.

First time trying Siam Thai.

Waitress were attentive.

Tried this Moo Ping as an entree. Wasn't impress at all. The photo on the menu and what was serve to us is totally different. Taste bland and dry.

Next was soft shell crab salad, taste nice! Sour Spicy Sweet YUM! Except for they only give you one crab for $16~$18. There are other Thai restaurants that serves that dish with same price but more protein.

Lastly, red duck curry. Taste awesome, could taste the sweetness of lychee in the thick, rich and creamy sauce but for that whole pot, we got only 3 thinly sliced duck meat and a few of thinly sliced duck skin. Not recommended.

Overall, not going back. Too expensive for the portion.
Rtsf
Food came quick but not cooked properly. Tom yum was lukewarm and seafood undercooked. Other dishes were average
Lynn
The staffs could not cater to a decent crowd on a Tuesday night. Also, the waitress could most certainly make the ‘soft shell crab’ in the salad ‘fly’ because the it fell on the floor once and then on the table again when she served us. Some dishes were on the salty side. Definitely our first and last time here.

Food 2/5
Service 0/5
Ambiance 2/5
Lee Yan Hee
The curry is good.
Jee Kee
The food is really good. The Khao Soi vegetable with egg noodle is my favourite. The noodle is of the right texture. Vegetarian-friendly.

Service was really warm and smile-y 😊 The stir-fried crispy pork belly and Chinese broccoli dish was nice, but the seafood salad portion size was rather lacking.

But yes, what lovely servers! Give those ladies a raise!

Good Thai food with amazing service :) We ordered boat noodle and tom yum noodle soup, both were very delicious and leave us amazing experience of Thai cuisine :>

We visited Siam Thai last Sunday. We ordered the Moo Ping (Skewered Pork) as one of the starters, and the order that we received was totally different from what the menu showed it as (photos attached). Although the other main course was pretty decent and enjoyable, this goof up with the starters was a mood killer.
I would probably give them a miss next time.

Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Taste: ⭐️⭐️
Ambiance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Value: ⭐️⭐️

Great service as soon as we entered the restaurant. We were promptly ushered to a table.

We ordered the Massaman Curry, Seafood Salad and Popcorn Chicken for entree. I was not a massive fan of the Massaman Curry because the flavour was too strong for my liking. I think they needed to add more coconut milk. The Seafood Salad was a little too spicy even when we asked for mild.

Overall, a good dining experience.
Esta Chiu
Food is just ok, too salty and the taste is average compared to the other Thai restaurant we have tried before. We ordered Roti with beef curry, the roti is over cooked (actually it was burned). Also we had green papaya with Peanut salad, not really good taste to be honest. There were 5-6 tables customers, and just got 1 waitress.
Varsh
Would not come back here

Came in for a lunch special with Zomato Gold 1+1.

An easy ordering process, and the service was friendly.

The restaurant itself has high ceilings and feels spacious and clean.

Rice with Pad Kra Tiem Prik Thai Beef - Basic comfort dish with nice pieces of stir fried beef and crispy garlic. Topped with a fried runny egg, lovely.

Thai Boat Noodle Soup (pork & pork ball) - the soup is sweet and herbal, I can taste a bit of star anise and cinnamon. The thin rice noodles have good texture and not overcooked.

There are a lot of Thai street food restaurants in central CBD these days, and @Siam is a decent option.
