I visit this cafe on average a few times a month when I'm in the area. I'm always impressed by the large variety of homemade food on offer and the friendly attentive staff. I especially enjoy their homemade pies and pasties on offer, they're so much better than the factory made pies many other cafes offer.
I visited here today because i wanted to get some lunch and not spend too much. The special today was a burger, fries, salad and a drink for $10. Don't think you can eat this cheap for this much anywhere!
I started with the salad, which there was a lot of. If you don't like salad then you might not be a fan, but i love it, and thought the feta they used in their Greek salad was really nice.
I then moved over to the burger. It looked like one of those burgers you get from a school canteen, however it tasted so much better. Im not sure what they put in their mince, but it was very nice. I could have had it as rissoles by itself actually. Love the home cooked taste :)
Overall, i was very happy. My rating might seem high, but compared to other cafés like this, and the amount of options they have (salads, cakes, etc) i think it deserves a nice rating. But take it with a pinch of salt :)
Food is Amazing. The roast vegies are delicious, the beef pies are to die for. and most of all the staff and owner are very friendly. Glad to have found this place!!!
A hidden gem. I first visited and fell in love with the food and hospitality at Sixpence Cafe when I used to work in the Bourke Place building (where it is located). Even though I no longer work there I still make the effort to take the trip down for a weekly lunch.
Food is absolutely amazing. The best part about it is for $10.00 you can fill a plate with literally any of the salads and pies on display and anything in the Bae Marie. My new favourite at the moment being the grilled chicken salad, adding sides of fried rice and roasted potatoes. Yum! Can't forget the shepherd pie too!
I have also had the pies and pastries and you can tell it is homemade and fresh.
Arrrrr this be a fine port to dock in when the storms are rough, the waitress-mermaids be enticing, and the whole crew loves the rum matey. X marks the spot!

Six Pence make the best coffee in the CBD, honestly I have worked in Melbourne for 20 years and their coffee is the best I have come accross, always consistant too. Best morning fix. They have really nice homemade cakes and sweets. Have lunch there with work friends and always hade excellent service and the food is great, very generous serves with a combination to choose all for under 10 bucks. Highly recommend.
By far the best coffee i have had in this airport. I hope to be backing it up with 5 stars after a second visit on my next return flight.
As for the pies, over priced not much meat. I had rosemary and lamb.
4 stars are purley a rating on the coffee as this airport is full of burnt bitter and unreliable coffee from baristas.
