The value here is crazy. Ordered one Pork backbone stew and a noodle for takeaway and the portion was enough for 4-5 adults with rice. Definitely one of the legit Korean Stew place.
The closest way my friend could get me to watch Train to Busan (a scary Korean zombie horror movie) was to eat here, at Busan.
Ordered:
🍜 Army Ham & Sausage Stew ($36.00)
🍚 Bacon and kimchi fried rice with egg ($16.00)
+ cheese ($3.00)
🍳 Beef Cheese egg roll ($20.00)
Review:
I've never seen bacon and kimchi fried rice on a korean menu before - and it was bomb. There's something classic and almost homely about it that makes it easy to consume. Would highly highly recommend this! Especially with cheese.
But a word of caution... also order other things so you don't get overwhelmed with just this. 🤔
Beef cheese egg roll had a bit too much meat - especially when there was so much ham and sausage in the army stew already. I think if you balance it out with other non-as heavy meat dishes, it would be good. Nonetheless, it was for us to try it though!
The service is friendly and they gave us candy when we paid for the bill. There's a buzzer on the table if you need anything (e.g. water refill!) and they laughed when I got incredibly excited to see the food come out. Easy place to eat and catch up with friends!
One of the best Bibimbap I’ve ate. Service is friendly and great. Highly recommended for late night eats!
Awesome foods at a late hour! Great atmosphere, staffs are all friendly even in the late time. Decent price and cheap alcohol. A good place to gather with friends for the special day
I really love this korean restaurant in Melbourne. So, Except Mondays when the restaurant is closed. I spend most of my time there. The food is always delicious and tidy.
My favorite restaurant in Melbouren!!❤️
Busan is a nice restaurant atmosphere, kind staff, and delicious food.🤩🥘🤩
Pork back bone stew was very delicious and comforting. A lot of meat inside and very tender. Definitely would return for more.
I love this restaurant ❤️ the best place ever
When you first walk in to this Korean restaurant, it might seem a bit underwhelming at first with a small seating area. But really, the seating area is just divided between the front where it offers a brighter setting with standard table seating, and the back area where most people are seated in a dimly lit cozy area with booth seating.
Korean eats!
The place is pretty spacious, with seatings separated into two sections, outer is brightly lit and the inside dim, with more private seatings. I sat inside and it was perfect to chill and cool off.
Staffs serving me were all friendly, there is a bell on the table so it's really convenient to call someone up. Food also took a reasonable time.
Pork soup (돼지국밥) was great. Portion and taste was both satisfying, lotsa meat! It came with condiments that we can mix with the broth to our liking. I do like chitterlings so I was tad bit disappointed theres only pieces of ears.
Stir fired pork skin was decent. Most were too rubbery to my liking, although some were nice. I really like the seasoning though, it was addictive! This dish is perfect with some booze.
recently also tried the egg stew (계란찜) and it was probably the best we've had in Melbourne, bit buttery and fluffy and taste was just right!
Side dishes were yummy, i enjoyed all three, especially the radish!!
Overall I'd definitely recommend this place!
P.S They have a different menu on weekends, way less option and more expensive so do come on weekdays if possible! (I uploaded the menu though im not sure if it will be taken down)
( follow for more!✨)
xx,joelle.
Came in for some seriously late night food with a friend. Not really sure what to order or how big the portions were. We ordered the army stew and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The serving was huge and delicious with a great spiciness! The atmosphere was exciting and the place was packed at 5:30am on a Sunday. Had a couple of super refreshing hite beer which were $6 very reasonable. Keen to come back and try some more of the food! Thanks guys
Spinning Round Horse Kick
+5
A really good Korean restaurant with many kind of Korean soups that I wanna try!!! Also this place is recommended by my Korean friend. The place writes Korean only, and 95% Korean customers, which makes you feel you’re in Korea. After 11pm, it’s getting busy, you need to queue up for a table! Will definitely come back for traditional Korean soups! Love it
3.5/5
The interior of the restaurant looked perfect for drinking. Above all, the kindness of the staff was very pleasant. But the food I ate was not good. The soup is tender. And this feeling is lacking! I'll try something else next time.
Was about to go to another Korean restaurant but tried Busan instead, and so glad I did! Their kimchi fried rice (served in a hot stone bowl) is to die for. It's perfectly spicy but can be toned down with the slaw that accompanies the dish. I also had the japchae which was a bit soupier than others I've had, but not to its detriment. The noodles were chewy (in a great way) and full of veggies. As a last point, both staff and other diners were super friendly. The table across from us even shared a "Korean cocktail" of beer, shochu and sprite that you slam on the table to make fizzy before you skull it. I'd definitely go back to try the veggie pancake and some more drinks
LIT!: I was invited to try any meal on their menu with a voucher of $50. We ordered a few things including the pork bone stew, corn cheese and a classic beef bulgogi (in order from best to worst). The pork bone stew was incredible, it was completely stuffed with pork bone and meat and was so tender and delightful to eat.
NOT SO LIT: the beef bulgogi was not special and a bit chewy, but overall, a great experience.
Thank you for having us!!
I'll be honest when I say that Korean food isn't one of my favourite cuisines. But in saying that I have tried heaps of different types of Korean food and know my way around the cusine. It was quite evident that this place was very authentic and and traditional in its menu. The dishes we ordered did taste very nice and flavoursome. Loved the tofu
It was a great honour being invited to dine at Busan. We were very excited dining at Busan as we really enjoy Korean cuisine and the Korean culture. Our first impressions were the native Korean speaking staff and also almost all the customers were native speakers too. Although the staff speak very limited english, we were still able to get a few recommendations in the dishes and drinks. The kimchi was slightly different to other restaurants, with a darker and ripen colour. Between fresh kimchi and ripe kimchi, I definitely enjoyed the more ripe and stronger taste in the kimchi. You definitely can’t say no when you see tteobokki on the menu. The tteobokki at Busan was delicious, sauce wasn’t too watery and had generous amount of fish cake and rice cakes and the spices were just right. Another good recommendation if you go to Busan is to try their spicy chicken feet. The portion is definitely big. Although the chicken feet was small in size, the spices were strong and you get a good feel of eating like a Korean by using your hands and gloves provided. Debating whether to get an Army stew or the back one stew, we ended up getting the pork back bone stew which we kind of regretted. There was a generous portion of back bone and it had a rich creamy flavour. However, just for our personally preference, there was far too many bones than meat and rather hard to eat. To get the spirits up, we drank some makgeolli and soju, which were a great complimentary to the spicy dishes. We had a very good experience at Busan, served with friendly staff and great Korean dishes. We would like to thank Busan for inviting us to dine, and we would most definitely return to try more from their menu!
I dined at Busan with two of my friends and we were thoroughly impressed with the food that was presented to us . The restaurant livens up later throughout the night , and with mainly Koreans which I love . We ordered the bulgogi beef which was delicious , the corn cheese which was absolutely my favourite dish of the night , vegetarian pancake , japchae ( we had a mix up with it coming with meat when my vegetarian friend ordered the vegetable version- the staff were so professional in the way the handled the mix up!!) and lastly the steamed egg which was so unique and fluffy. Overall I had a great dining experience here and definitely recommend it !
Points for: Korean casual pub-style atmosphere, big stews, unique dishes
Dine Time: Thursday evening
I was quite excited when Busan invited me to sample their menu, as I’ve written a number of reviews on Korean restaurants previously.
What I was also looking forward to were dishes local to Busan, as I was there a couple years ago. The menu is still a pretty standard Korean affair, but there is some distinction.
*Gyeran Jjim (steamed egg soufflé): very delicate, warming and nourishing, goes well to cut the spiciness of the other dishes.
*Gamjatang (pork bone stew): a large serving enough for 4. The pork bones gave the soup a meaty depth and the meat on the bones were so tender, you could flake it off with a spoon. The ground sesame seeds cooked down into the soup and gave it almost a creamy texture, and the shredded perilla provided an earthy herbiness. One of the best gamjatang stews I’ve had!
*Gopchang Bokkeum (spicy chitterlings with blood sausage): more of a unique dish, this champions the traditional ingredients of chitterlings (intestines) and Korean blood sausage (soondae). As gruesome as it might sound to some, it’s very traditional in a sense that historically, nothing of the animal went to waste. The chitterlings were soft with a little bit of a chew and doesn’t have an overly pongy taste. The soondae was rammed with rice noodles, providing a good texture and bite.
The side dishes leant more towards the Busan side, with the kimchi being quite dark and the flavours a lot more stronger – I loved it. Went so well with the pulled pork from the stew.
The chunky radish kimchi was also quite punchy, which was refreshing in between spoons of rice and egg souffle.
For an excellent Korean meal, come with 3-4 friends, share a few dishes and definitely down it with some so-mek (soju and beer combination). It’s like being transported back to a Korea.
I honestly think that we got lucky with the dishes that we ordered, otherwise we would not have deemed Busan good enough for a 5. Busan has the typical Korean dishes that you see elsewhere - bibimbap, corn cheese, army stew, bossam, and the likes - but what sets it apart from other Korean restaurants are the not so common dishes that are actually common in Korea. We took this as a sign and ordered two of such dishes - the pork and homemade Korean sausage soup, and the chitterlings with veggies stew.
The stew came in a big pot, big enough to feed 3. Generous amounts of chitterlings, topped with button mushrooms and enoki mushrooms, assorted veggies, glass noodles and more pork. The soup was bursting with flavours, and had a nice spicy kick to it.
But what really whet our appetite was the Korean sausages. Made up of pork blood, with glass noodles and glutinous rice, it imparts a certain richness and creaminess when you bite into one. The pork soup was hearty and full-flavoured, and you must add in the salted shrimp and the spicy paste, as they do in Korean we were told, to obtain maximum deliciousness. Without those two, the soup will feel like it's lacking a certain element to it.
While the staffs are not very fluent in English, it didn't impede any of our communications. Service was in fact very polite, helpful and friendly.
We would like to thank Busan for inviting us to dine, and we would most definitely return with a bigger crew to tackle more of the dishes. We noticed that the vast majority of diners are Koreans, and eyed a number of interesting dishes on their table that we must try the next time.
I was invited to Busan to dine and to be honest wasn't expecting much but a regular Korean fare. But Korean cuisine is much more than KBBQ and KFC, there's a lot of underrepresented dishes that we were about to try.
The restaurant itself looks empty at first glance but the first set of customers are ushered into the booths at the back of the restaurant for a more private dining experience. Very Korean layout with a bit of K-pop in the background, not a bad selection of song choices.
As the friendly waitress took our order we shortly got a couple of banchan. Kimchi of course which was super funky from fermentation and shredded cabbage in a pleasant sweet dressing.
We got gamjatang (pork spine soup), I've only ever had it once in Seoul. It was a rich milky pork bone soup with the meat piled up. There's no clean way to eat this, you've got to use your hands and nibble away at those bones but you are rewarded with super tender meat. Underneath there were some greens that have soaked up all that broth and the soup went well with rice. This dish was stunning.
The second dish we got was bossam which is a DIY boiled pork belly wrap. A plate of fatty, melt in your mouth pork belly accompanied by spicy radish and a shrimp sauce, all wrapped up (ssam) to be enjoyed in a single bite. This too was good and can be enhanced with more accompaniments to make different combinations of flavours.
I had to double check the opening hours, these guys are open crazy late so it also makes for the ultimate hangover cure or quite the opposite, to have a heavy night of drinking!
I was invited to dine at the restaurant with $50 credit to spend on anything I liked with the exception of alcohol. We paid for the excess. Firstly the staff don’t speak much English at all, and they couldn’t understand me over the phone when I asked them to change my reservation to increase the number of guests from 2 to 4 people. Instead of changing my reservation, they booked me in as a new booking, which was not a big problem as it turned out, as we still managed to get a table.
We ordered the bossam (pork belly lettuce wrap), the stir fried spicy chicken with cheese, steamed egg, seafood stew and seafood pancake.
The pork belly was fatty and tender and melted in the mouth. It was also delicious wrapped in the lettuce with the pickled radish.
The spicy chicken with cheese was my favourite dish: it was flavourful and textural and I enjoyed every bite. There was onions, button mushrooms, capsicum, pineapple, korean rice cakes, cheese and chicken in the dish so it was spicy, sour, sweet and savoury at the same time.
The steamed egg was custardy and fluffy in texture and delicate in flavour. It was a nice contrast to the strong flavours of the other dishes.
The seafood stew was flavourful and had a good serving of mussels, prawns, squid and even udon noodles in it. The broth was creamy and made you want to go back for more.
The seafood pancake was the least impressive dish. There was very little seafood in it and it was not crispy and had little flavour. We had to dip it in the sauce which improved the flavour a lot. I wouldn’t order this dish again.
Except for the communication barrier, service was pleasant and our waitress was friendly.
Overall we had a good time and enjoyed our food. I would like to come back and try different dishes next time.
By the way this place opens from 5pm to 5am tues to thurs and on sundays, and 5pm to 8am on fridays and saturdays, so perfect for a late night meal!
Tonight my partner and I went to Busan. We were very lucky to be invited. We got there early so it was pretty quiet which ensured excellent service lol
This may be a new restaurant as I haven’t seen it before but it’s still in a handy location, in the CBD.
We had 2 dishes, a bibimbap and a cold noodle dish both of which were excellent. The bibimbap was fresh and not heavy. I’ve had bibimbap before and walked out bloated and too full. Not tonight though 😊
The cold noodle dish was equally as good, fresh noodles with a small hint of spice. Perfect for a summers night.
The prices here are very reasonable and it’s worth the effort to head to Queen St for a meal here ... or 2 lol. Yep this place is worth a visit!
I was really excited to see the sundae in the menu as not many korean restaurants has this. And we ordered and yay! It turns out Very yum! Recommend!!! All the food we ordered were delicious. My favs are the sundae and the pork skin! Their salad side dish also very good. Very refreshing! Definitely recommend!
돼지국밥 + 치즈불닭 with 2밥 : $49 for 3 people. The soup come out with rice as well.
My collegue say the soup has a strong flavour and i couldnt agree more. The meat is plenty and really nice. I really want to try the sundae gukbap but sold out. The spicy chicken with cheese is amazing. Not only chicken they also add 떡 as well! :) 5/5
The staff are friendly and the foods are awesome! We came for the chicken soup, unlike ordinary chicken soup, the rice stuffing inside the cavity that makes it even special. Place your booking to avoid queue and disappointment especially on the weekend.
Yum yum yum! Kimchi pancake to die for. Friendly service, we visited early in the evening so it wasn't busy, but I imagine it has a good ambience when busy. We shared the pancake, spicy pork belly and bulgolgi beef between two and it was a huge serving of food. Highly recommend.
Great food, staff are nice, venue is nice too
We tried a few things from the 'top' menu. The chicken feet are GREAT and aren't spicy at all so I think the resturant could make it spicer. The pork belly was also delicious
Everyone enjoyed the meal and I would highly recommend
The staff were really nice and the food is really good me and my boyfriend really enjoy the spicy chicken feet and other food were also really nice! Really recommend to go there and have dinner!
Pretty good Chittering soup. Kimchi pancake was good and corn cheese was ok too. Place is very small so good luck trying to have a conversation. Not sure my Korean partner thinks it's as good as it used to be when it was at its old location.
Was craving for a Korean meal on a Friday evening so went onto the Fork and came across Busan conveniently located the Melbourne CBD. Thought we go check it out and we were definitely not disappointed. kimchi stew was super tasty and flavoursome!! They also had the option to choose spicy or rose flavoured Tteokbokki, we went with the lightly spiced rose and it was yummy! Finally to accompany with the mushroom pancake. Will definitely be back has a beautiful flower backdrop at the entrance which was lovely to walk through❤️
New korean restaurant in CBD! Food and service were amazing 👏 We ordered Japchae and Soy Garlic Fried Chicken. The Japchae was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fried chicken had thin coating and crispy. Recommended!
Nice vibe and decor, fried chicken half original half garlic salt flavour, serving size suits three people, taste great, juicy and crispy. Stir-fried Chitterling doesn’t feel any fatty, really nice and great to serve with soju! Gamjatang is big size too, slow cooked pork with bones reminds us the days in Korea. By the way, take away package is very handy if you can’t finish all food.
