😱Lizzie’s first impression: I've walked past here many a times but finally decided to give it a try. It was a Thursday night and it was very lively so it looked quite promising.

🍩Lizzie enjoyed: We opted for the Tteokbokki and added extra Ramen and that came out surprisingly big. Loved that they had fish cakes as well as rice cakes two ways (the tubes and the flat ones). It also had fried gyozas on top which was a great addition to the dish.

We also tried the bibimbap with beef and it was delicious - loved the authenticity of the dish by putting them into the hot stone bowls rather than just a black bowl. They also gave a unboiled egg yolk which was great when mixed with the rice.

🍅Lizzie did not enjoy: The space is quite small in there but I think they have an upstairs area so make sure you book beforehand.

🥇Lizzie rates overall: Staff was really friendly and I loved the dishes that I tried. I will be back.

I have been here a few times and must say I am very impressed. For a small restaurant tucked away, the food is really nice, premises are really clean and staff are friendly.

I definately recommend the spicey pork rice meal. Very filling and only $12!

The place is pretty cosy and chill, though the seats in front can be cold in the winter. Been here twice and the staffs were friendly, though the first time our food took a while :')

The bulgogi stew was yummy and perfect for winter, with ample amount of meat and good flavour.

The kimchi pancake was good, size and flavour wise, but bit oily/soggy.

Egg roll was average, the size and amount of cheese could be bigger.

Lastly, the LA Galbi was enjoyable, meat was marinated well and though could be softer. It's a bit of a messy dish tho lol.

Side dishes vary, but usually three and they're quite good.

Overall, a pretty good Korean eatery, with a higher price mark

Rearrange the first two letters of this place and you get Tool Song. And being a fan of Tool, The Dear Luncher likes this. Tool are a great band, is Sool Tong a great restaurant?

The answer is YES.

As readers of The Dear Luncher will know, he has quite the penchant for fried chicken and/or Karaage. Sool Tong manages to combine this particular delicacy with the old fashioned hand-roll and it is sensational. Glazed extremely well with just a hint of spice, these rolls were right up there with the best Your Dear Luncher has come across. Compact and tightly rolled, no skimping on the chicken – plenty packed in. The black rice option costs 20 cents more, but it’s worth it.

The only downside of the whole experience, the cash only factor. Written up on the wall behind the counter is a wifi password. So there’s wifi, but no card facilities. Extremely annoying in this day and age. But they made up for it with the superb rolls.

Went here on Tuesday night before Anzac day with my colleagues. We ordered a lot~ the tteokbokki(?) is lovely! The corn cheese a bit burnt on the side, but taste really tasty! The bulgogi stew is tasty as well, once it cooked, the beef is tender and the soup is nice. We also ordered the egg cheese, which taste just okay for me + budae jiggae! A bit spicy but very nice hehe And the spicy fried chick thingy IS A MUST! Haha I think around 2ish is their last order! However we managed to order a lot of beer and soju!

Since discovering this little eatery, I’ve become a regular customer. The sushi hand rolls are my favourite - ingredients are fresh, with good quality nori, and overall makes a great tasting sushi. I tend to get them takeaway as the restaurant is so close to my workplace.

Their wood-tone room interior design caught my interest when I was passing by. Lunch menu is classic like other Japanese cafes. Decided to try Tsuke Don for my lunch. The plating is good, but the taste is too salty for my tongue.
They have interesting Korean dinner menu tho.

Simple food done well. Generous serving and delicious. Affordable. Perfect for a quick lunch. Ordered the grilled chicken curry on rice. A really enjoyable dish. The braised pork belly was good too. Always crowded during lunch hour. They have new $10 dinner specials as well.

This is the perfect place for a quick cheap and tasty quality lunch. Had lunch there today, I got the teriyaki chicken with black rice and my friend ordered the soba noodle salad. Both dishes were tasty, generously portioned and felt like a relatively healthy dish! If you're anywhere near by it's worth dropping by, they also serve black rice sushi.

Best lunch sushi in Melbourne. Always fresh.

Options of white or purple rice for each flavour. I usually get the smoked salmon. It's slightly spicey and includes avocado. I sometimes order the aburi, miso soup and green tea.

Many people order hot meals but I haven't tried one yet.

Details: don't be fooled by the tiny little venue, this place has been brilliant everytime I've come! I recommend the grilled teriyaki bowl! The sauces are devine, chicken was marinated nicely and the rice was lovely mixed in with it all (a little bit of carbs never hurt anyone!)

I recommend also the black rice tuna sushi, it's fresh and delicious (currently eating hehe)

Decor: Tiny little Japanese place! So perfect for a quick lunch but wouldn't go out of my way to go for dinner here. I love that it is set up like a traditional Japanese restaurant 😍

Service: beautiful staff!

One of my reliable lunch venues. The sushi packs are great. The prawn burger is awesome, but would be better on a brioche bun rather than the Turkish bread.

Sool Tong's quick service provides a simple range of Japanese meals at generous portions and affordable prices, making this place ideal for a fuss-free midweek lunch. My favourite dish is the Tsuke Don with fresh salmon sashimi marinated in slightly sweet soy sauce and pickled veggies. I appreciate that Sool Tong has the healthier options of brown or black rice. Generally, the sauces, pickles, and curries here are mild and not too overpowering. I recommend this place for something convenient (especially the sushi rolls), though keep in mind that it's a cash-only establishment.

I was after something warm on a fresh day and as this place is cash only (yes it's 2016) the last time I wanted to try this place I only had a card.

I had the teriyaki chicken w rice and salad. This place has the fastest service ever!! Haha

I ordered and sat down and within what seemed like seconds my meal arrived.

This place is very busy and they have a good selection of sushi and sashimi. Overall it was pretty good.

I have seen this place before and I had been wanting to check it out especially when I heard it is pretty good and affordable.  I came here for brunch and decided for the braised pork belly. I was surprised that it came out pretty fast. Although, it didn't look very appealing, I must say it was pretty tasty. The staff were very friendly. I will definitely come back and recommend this place if you are looking for fast, tasty, and afforable meal.

Small korean restaurant with an upstairs, I had the tsuke don (marinated salmon with fresh salad and pickled veggies) which reminded me of almost the same dish at the more popular Purple Peanuts but less refined in terms of how each of the ingredients was diced up. However in comparison to Purple Peanuts, Sool Tong's was also slightly cheaper. Hubby had the karage with a sweet and sour sauce on rice which unfortunately he did not love #notASauceLover but I'm sure I would have enjoyed.

Despite being tagged as a Japanese restaurant, I do not believe it's authentic Japanese but rather their take on Japanese dishes (i.e. expect more fusion than authentic).

The flavours for both dishes were pretty spot on and definitely resembles authentic Korean cuisine. Along with fresh ingredients, this made for a delicious feed. The kimchi fried rice packed a punch in terms of spicyness.

The portion sizes were on the small size, and left much to be desired. Quite literally.

Overall a reasonably priced and authentic restaurant for some Korean food.

Very good Korean food on a quiet corner of Queen Street. Open till very late (3am), it is a great option for a late night supper of hearty and delicious Korean fare that you can wash down with soju or korean beers (if you wish). Food is pretty decent.

It's very good food actually 😉 not overly enhanced with salts and oils and quite homely tasting . The service is very good especially by the blonde Korean lass and they've put great effort into the interior .
I recommend the slow cooked spicy chicken (30 min wait but worth it ) which is cooked with potatoes and onions in a pressure cooker w sweet soy sauce - so amazing .
Beef boolgogi is a winner as are the Korean pancakes .
Give this place a try - you'll love it

[LUNCH CRAWL] Crunchy pickled pickles, radish and seaweed salad with crushed roasted almonds along with grilled teriyaki chicken on a bed of chewy Soba drizzled with sesame dressing. The result is an explosion of flavors and I find myself coming back at least once a month or sometimes more. I would also recommend the Curry Udon too if you’re a Japanese curry fan.

A good place for a late-night eat & drink sesh. We originally wanted to go to Ohsso on Hardware Lane but it wasn't open tonight so this was the next place I thought of. Food is pretty standard Korean fare, with some interesting street food that don't normally appear on the menus of other Korean restaurants such as intestines, entrails etc. They also have sashimi but I didn't try it. Looking forward to trying more of their menu. Tonight we had the fish cake soup which was quite a big pot, it was predominantly all frozen fish cakes with a nice oden-flavoured broth, quite spicy from some added chilli. We also had the egg cheese roll which was quite standard with melted cheese, and spicy stir fried pork belly which wasn't too spicy and tasted a bit sweet from the sauce. This dish can easily be cooked at home using a sauce you get at Korean/Asian grocery stores, spring onions and pork belly. Quite appetizing and goes well with a bowl of rice. Interested in trying out their lunch menu too which apparently is quite cheap and serves mainly Japanese rice dishes instead of the Korean shared dishes at night.

One of the newer Korean restaurants on the Melbourne scene Sool Tong opens till late and is a great drinking venue. Downstairs is a lightly dimmed, smaller space located right next to the kitchen (in case you wanted your food quicker). Upstairs is brighter, no frills seating that can fit about 6 to a standard table (or steel-drum-convert, whatever that table is).
The food is predominantly a drinking menu so you share. I can't fault most of the meals. The bimbap, tofu soup and pancake are standard. A friend suggested entrails (intestines).. really an acquired taste so don't venture unless you know what you're getting into. The fried chicken was a bit average. Stand outs are the egg roll (yummo) and beef rib (MUST order). The service isn't premium, but it's a no frills low key venue which you don't notice with company - I quite enjoyed the place so will be back.

Cheap, quick and delicious. Very happy with this sweet little cafe. I had a lovely soba noodle salad for lunch which came with grilled chicken, seaweed salad, crispy nori, avocado and fresh homemade pickles. Utterly scrummy and for $8.50, I was surprised by the size and quality of the meal. I happily sat outside in the dappled sunlight on one of their three pavement tables. Inside, there is only room enough for 15 or so people so if you can't get a seat, they do quick and easy take-away. Will be coming back for more as soon as possible.

Japanese cafe owned by Koreans. This is my kind of lunch cafe with simple, clean, delicious and quick food. We ordered the curry udon, soba salad, sushi and grilled chicken burger. The udon had the perfect chewiness and the broth was just right. The soba was clean, fresh and great for the health conscious. Sushi was ok only but the grilled burger was very yummy and freshly grilled. Overall the price is reasonable and definitely a lunch hangout for me!

Firstly, what a cute little Japanese cafe in the middle of the cbd. I had the Tsuke Don and some miso soup and my friend had the braised pork belly. The quality of the raw salmon was very good, very fresh too. My friend gobbled her pork belly before I could ask to try some so I know it was good! The miso tasted delicious and was slightly sweeter than I'm used to which was a nice surprise. Would definitely come here again to try their other delights!

Absolutely love this place. A cool spot to chill and great ambience to have a drink with a friend over good food and soju. Experimented with pretty much every dish. Top are: crab soup, sashimi platter, boiled octopus, fried chicken, deep fried flounder.

First, plus side. Service was great, staff was friendly and patient when explaining things from menu. Food is leaning more towards seafood and when we went, there are a few in the menu that we wanted to order that's not available. This place can be a little noisy. if you're looking for a place to have a drink and lively chat with your friends then this is the place.

I was on a work trip to melbourne from Sydney and I wanted to grab some food and drinks with a colleague so I went to sool tong. We wanted to try little bit of variety of menu with our drinks so we ordered the chef's special hansang menu. We were very satisfied with the taste and the waitress was very friendly. I would definitely return when I visit Melbourne again.
